I can't believe all the panic on here after Caicedo choosing another team over us. They're still over two weeks of the window left, and the factor people should be focusing on is if the right player is there, we are willing to spend big to get them.

Yes Caicedo is a good player and would have improved us, but there still an abundance of players out there that will have the same impact when we sign them. It's become really depressing reading this site of late. Before Friday a majority of posting were moaning we were looking at bringing in Lavia because he wasn't any good (which I disagree with) and we should be aiming higher. Then we bid a British record for Caicedo and because he has messed us around it's the clubs fault again.

We are a football club these thing happen constantly sometimes widely reported and other times never even known about. Who's to say we won't end the window with a Luis or Tchouameni along with say a Gravenberch and Ignacio. Even if it's not these players I'm sure who we sign will also bring quality to the team.

I don't think the panic has anything to do with Caicedo. The concern is that a well-run club has turned into a dysfunctional one in 18 months, with the performances also mirroring this.

absolutely agree. To all the FSG and Klop out brigade perhaps we would be better off if we had owners like Hicks and Gillette with a manager like Hodgson. Oh I remember, that worked well.
We are a well run club and we are lucky that we have the owners and manager that are in place currently.

No the panic is because we did a full season of no midfielders and a dodgy defence

And we’re starting another season the exact same.

Totally agree …. We need to forget about players who don’t want to come to Liverpool and concentrate on players who do . There’s plenty of options who are every bit as good as Caicado and Lavia.
I trust we’ll find the right ones …. As we did with MacAllister and Szobozlai.
Onwards and upwards .

What a lot of us find disappointing, is we hummed and harred about paying 50 mill for Lavia, and now if we want him we will have to pay 55 mill. I just hope there is someone out there who is a decent CM and wants to play for us, otherwise on yesterday's showing we will struggle.

You are spot on, OP; but I can't believe Jones is telling us "don't panic, don't panic! " ?.

Well after all that talk of how good we are at negotiating and Lavia isn’t worth 50 mill we’ve only gone and offered 60 mill for him.

Dianne Abbott must be leading our negotiations.

This daily continuation of Lavia/ Caceado is so dull. Please move on this has been talked to death!

Is that because of Chelsea bidding for Lavia though, JK23?

Pearljam scroll past if the content is not to your taste. Sick of the post police telling people what they can and can't talk about.

Rigsby it looks like we’ve forced our own hand.

We could have had him for 50 mill weeks ago but we were told the club doesn’t believe he is worth that much.

Now it’ll cost us 10 mill extra and that’s if he even chooses us after all the messing about.

You're ignoring the fact that Chelsea wanted him and bid more for him than we did, JK23.
Southampton wanting £50m for him doesn't mean they have to sell him for £50m. This is not just about Liverpool, Southampton and Lavia.
And who told you that the club doesn't believe he is worth £50m?
Someone on here?

whoever is responsible for singing players gave Klopp 10 midfielders and a full defense minus a reliable back-up RB. I'd say that is plenty of support.

Rigsby we made 3 offers below 50 mill well on advance of Chelsea making their offer.

The club doesn’t believe he is worth 50 mill was the narrative on here.

I just think if we just put in the 50 mill bid weeks ago then we would have had Lavia in pre season and available for yesterday.

JK, the narrative on here counts for very little though.
We might have got Lavia for £50m weeks ago but that would be dependent on interest from other clubs, too. We know that Chelsea have bid more than that. We could be paying more because Chelsea also want him and not just because we offered less than the asking price.
Again, it's not just about Liverpool, Southampton and Lavia.

Pelican has a point. I wouldn't go as far as to say the club is dysfunctional in the last 18 months, but I would say that certain things have been chaotic and leave you scratching your head; especially the priorities in purchases of players. I value Nunez and Gakpo, so that's not what I'm questioning. Rather that midfielders weren't brought in before. I don't buy the argument that none were out there suiting us, because there seems to be quite a few now given the offers we've made. And there always are every season.

Somehow it seems the club is always caught by surprise, by one thing or another, and then has to scramble. 3 years ago it was not having CBs, last year it was inadequate midfielders and this summer Henderson and Fabinho suddenly left and once again the club is reeling and scrambling.

We need 3 more players at least before the window shuts. I wonder if we'll even get close to filling in the gaps that are blaringly apparent.

A dysfunctional club? Blimey! ?
Maybe we're too ambitious with our targets. An interest in Tchouameni, bids for Valverde and Caceido when we should be looking at more realistic targets?
Arthur Melo, anyone?
