EO1 - Does our squad look balanced enough to you? I know we need a centre half and midfielder but I'm thinking more with having the likes of Diaz, Jota, Gakpo, Nunez who can all play from the left. Whereas, in terms of senior players, only Salah can play on the right. If we were to lose Salah for any period of time i can only think of using Doak. Elliott doesn't seem suited and neither do any of the other forward players. What do others think?

{Ed001's Note - Gakpo can play on the right, I am sure Diaz, Jota and Nunez could fill in if needed as well as having Doak and Elliott. The only reason they don't is because Salah is always fit.}

Don't forget Szoboszlai who has also excelled at RW in his career.

IMO, the only way we buy a 'first team ready' attacker this window (as opposed to younger prospects) is if one of our front 5 leave.

Problem is (without jinxing it ?) Salah is super human who doesn’t like to be subbed.

Apart from him being away for Afcon and the early rounds of the domestic cups he’ll be wanting to play every minute of every game and he’s more than capable of it.

Spending money on someone to sit in the stands and watch Mo would be a space and we have plenty who might not be Mo standard but can do a job there.

I don't think we have any problems with a left/ right balance, especially in the attacking positions.

Where I think we currently have a balance problem is between attacking players and more defensively oriented players. We have five high quality strikers. The two midfielders we've signed so far are attacking midfielders. We also have Elliott and Jones in or around the first team. Even if we don't end up selling one or both of Henderson or Fabinho, we look light in defensive midfield and centre back.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we only bring in one DM and Joe Gomez is occasionally used as cover for that position as well as RB.

Bill if the calibre of DM we buy is top notch I think I’d take that. Gives Robbo a chance to adapt to that LCB role and gives Gomez a chance to adapt to the RCB.

Fair point ED01. So I'll change my mind on my original point. Well stocked up top.

RR - your point is a good one and why i think the next 2 signings have to be defensive minded. A CB and CDM an absolute must. I think we'll score a ton of goals this season but until we make them signings we'll ship in a fair few as well.
