Ed001 can I ask please what you think we will do with the CB situation. If it's looking likely that Konate will arrive then surely it will be him and Virgil starting with Gomez and Kabak back assuming Kabak staying? Then what about Phillips, Williams Matip? Who leaves who stays in your opinion?

Phillips deserves a move to a top end Championship side or maybe back to Bundesliga.

That won’t be enough so we will maybe have to sign Kabak. Personally I would try to secure a young up and coming English cb.

I think Phillips can do better than Championship team. He's shown that he could be at least as good as the other blunt force centre backs in the league (Tarkowski, Mina, Maguire etc. ) If he is given more experience at this level.

He should get a move to a decent mid table Prem team in my opinion. A team like Southampton or Crystal Palace would be his level in my opinion.

Mark, that literally makes no logical sense selling Phillips to leave Fabinho as our only other centre back option. It’s been shown to not be adequate this season at all.

Then spending more money on an “up and coming English CB” makes even less sense, as they’re very expensive to say the least, given the “English premium”. Specially when Phillips is young and up and coming!?

Also, in Phillips own words.

“I’m aware Liverpool have three centre-backs who are ahead of me in the pecking order all injured, so when those circumstances change mine are likely to change also, but for me to strive [to be a long-term starter] is going to bring the best out of me and I’m only going to benefit from setting that as an ambition. ”

Sounds to me like he’s happy to be a 4th choice and fight for a place. Why spend more money when we may not actually need to?
