The inconsistency of officiating and the so called experts makes my blood boil.
Twice today against Utd Connolly had penalty shouts where he’d cut across in front of the defender and the natural running motion caused their legs to collide. He was adjudged to have initiated the contact and this was back up by the commentary team. Incidental contact I think they said.
Rewind to Liverpool v Chelsea and in the action of pulling back to shoot Werner clips Thiago’s leg as they cross over and everyone says it’s a definite penalty! How? Just like today he didn’t make a challenge and Werner actually kicked him as he pulled back to shoot!
I’m not saying it’s because of Liverpool before I get accused of whinging the Werner one didn’t matter anyway. I’m just saying it’s so inconsistent and I just don’t understand it.
The quality of officiating baffles me sometimes.

Off topic, but want to share that I was surprised to see Thiago Silva given the armband (even before the blunder) . I know he is the most senior (given the age and experience), but he just joined and that was his first PL game. You guys feeling the same?

I mean, don't you think a captain should at least know the team mates quite well, understand each way of playing and stuffs? I doubt he managed to with such a short period of time.

I was more baffled chelsea got 3 goal as it clearly touched havertz hand.

Erratic decision making by officials has been going on for centuries. Tecnology hasn't made it any more accurate. Its just something we have to accept unfortunately. Mind you, it doesn't help when they bring in intricate nuances to fouls like offside and handball. It would be a lot easier to officiate if, for example, any ball and hand contact was an immediate free kick. Or if offside was offside regardless of being active in play or half a fingertip onside, etc.

I was the only one asking why that was adjudged to be a clear penalty against Thiago. I said it wasn't a penalty last week and I think it wasn't a penalty against Connolly. He was throwing himself against United players and kidding the grass.

Old Roy was royally pissed off. And i don't blame him. That is absolutely ridiculous. And Roy summed it up perfectly: if it's intentional or gains a massive advantage its handball, if the ball hits your arm unintentionally it's not. But that's subjective and var is trying to make things black or white, objectively.

I’d agree. I was also bemused to see United first goal stand as Maguire was trying to throw dunk out of the way. How was that not a foul?

I h8 to admit it but utd winning pen was a stone Waller but on the other hand why was Chelsea 3rd goal not ruled out for handball against havertz? and to blame the standard of officiating is bad tell them either put up or rubbish up do it yourselves and see what it's like.

I thought both of Aaron connolly's penalties should have stood tbh and was surprised the commentary backed up the refs decision (following var) .

As for the first penalty I was questioning a yellow card for Fernandes? It would have been his second and he would have been off.

I think silva getting the armband shows Frank's naivety. He was a great attacking player but not as good defensively. Its like signing silva (in his mind) was the answer to all chelsea's defensive problems. Okay, you're a great defender, get my team defending. Not as easy as that Frank.
