A lot of rumours floating around that Alisson has a hamstring injury.

Big, big loss if true.

Agree there, Matthews. Especially with their free kick bombardment.

Respected journalists are also reporting the same thing so appears to be true. Kelleher was expected to start Carabao Cup final next Saturday and also the FA Cup game against Southampton on 28th February. So if we can get through tomorrow and Wednesday game against Luton with wins we should be alright. That’s only if Allison is back fit before the end of the month because 10th March against City is HUGE. Just trying to add a positive spin on some bad news. Let’s wait to hear the extent of the injury.

Let’s hope it’s not serious.

Yeah, been confirmed. Alisson has done his hamstring, and is getting tests to see severity and length out.

Seriously, though, how does a Keeper do his hammy? Did he run to the rubbishter and pull it on the way, or what?

When people were trying to sell Kelleher last year as he was too good to be second choice - I said then and repeat now this is exactly why you have a top level back up for every position.

Yeah, we seem to have a lot of players getting hamstring injuries again. A bit like when Klopp first came in. Szobo, Trent, Alisson, Salah - although his was when away at AFCON.

Not the best time right now.

Very tough game tomorrow at Brentford, where Klopp has never yet won.

@KBL, yeah I spotted that trend of 3 or 4 hamstrings in a squad of 30 or so every 8 or 9 years straight away . I think the blame is definitely the way FSG have set up the medical department.

Being a bit more serious I’d prefer the bad luck occurs now against Brentford, Luton and Southampton rather than the last 4 or 5 games of the season when we could, potentially, be at the pointy end of the PL and in two cup finals.

{Ed001's Note - hamstrings are rarely down to luck. Soft tissue injuries are usually caused by a lack of flexibility or fitness or both. Alisson has had flu, it is little wonder he is susceptible to an injury while coming back to full fitness, that is always a risk.

Ligament injuries are a different thing, but I would have to suspect the modern pitches are a big part of the problem, which is why the woman's game has suddenly been plagued with them as they have got more professional. Modern pitches are much harder than a normal old-school pitch. There is no give in them to protect ligaments from damage. The reason why I say it has caused the plague of them in the women's game is because as they get more professionalised, the increase of modern pitches has spread. They were playing on Sunday league style pitches until recently.}

Sorry Ed01, just to clarify, I agree that hamstring injuries are not down to luck - I was more referring to having a group of them in such a condensed space of time. It is slightly easier on the nerves if it is not in the final stages of the season when, hopefully, we are qualified for two finals and we need four points from our last two league games to win the league.

{Ed001's Note - but surely if getting them is not down to luck, then it is not about luck that there is so many at one time?}

When was the last four week period when we had two recurrences (Dom and TAA) and a couple of other players, (Mo and Ali) all at once with the same injury source?

It’s common to have a constant turnover of injuries in a squad of 25+ players, particularly playing at the level of intensity that the squad is playing at but I genuinely think that it is unfortunate coincidence - bad luck - to have such a spate of the same injury type. At least I can’t remember when we had so many f the same type of injury in such a relatively short space of time.

Ed is absolutely correct. As a result of sickness, you will have raised inflammatory markers, increased neural tension, inactivity, dehydration and subsequent increased muscle tightness. Goalkeepers have to perform a lot of explosive movements and short sprints to shut space down, so they should not be considered immune to muscle injuries. In particular Alisson, as that is probably one of the aspects of his game he excels at.

I do wonder with the number of hamstrings injuries we are seeing in the game, whether there is a connection to neural tension problems that are often caused by postural issues. Things from gaming, oversized furniture that does facilitate correct ergonomics, increased sitting through travel and reduced recovery time. I think this season with increased injury times may contribute also. Players are so fine tuned through sports science to get maximal output for 90-95 minutes. Go beyond that and they are entering the ‘red zone’ in terms of risk. Previous generations may not have played the game at the same speed, but endurance and durability was much better. They could cope with heavy playing surfaces and poorer conditions. Apologies for the long winded reply.

Cheers.

Great post Greggets
I remember reading somewhere a previous Liverpool player kept getting hamstring injuries
Everything was explored and they couldn’t find out why

Until someone looked at the car he was driving and his position in the car
Changed car- problem solved.
