Watched both pre-season games, and as usual what with the new signings coming in there's the natural doom-mongerers and the (rare) optimists.

Just wanted to say that i'm quite fairly on the positive side so far. One big difference to our balance and solidity will be that half the players coming in have PL experience. Milner looks to be a class act. Composed, experienced and a crazy motor on him. Alongside Hendo i can imagine the pressing game going well. He penetrates better than hendo and so i think will offer something different rather than having the "same" role. I think the team could really help the national side as there is such a core of English players at the moment.

Really hope Lucas remains in the starting 11. The whole team seems more balanced, secure and frankly the defence seems at ease with him there. Unfortunately would have to choose him over Can for now as the latter is probably a bit more adventurous but with Milner and Hendo, that isn't necessarily what we need right now.

As for the front, some difficult choices to make. It seems that Couts and Firmino will have to play, and so will Benteke. If this is the case, i can see goals and i think Benteke will do well (but time will tell), but we would rely on the full abcks for width. Regarding those who are comparing Benteke to Carroll, I think this is harsh on the Belgian. Benteke is faster, better technically, and can play off the shoulder/on the last man more comfortably than Andy.

I feel for the rest of the squad who really need game time but in such a high pressure results orientated business (and football is a business), you need to play your best 11. Ibe is a rising star and hopefully will get game time. Rossiter with his haircut reminds me of a young Gerrard but who knows.

All in all - i like the team cohesion and can see it coming together. Its a team of rising stars rather than superstars, but that's how cycles go in football, especially when you can't attract the agueros or Vidals of the game.

Good post mate. I agree with you in regards to feeling positive about our squad going forward. With the addition of Firmino and Benteke I'm really excited to see how quickly we move the ball and attack the opposition. Milner is a superb addition and is everywhere you look on the pitch. We seem to have a nice balance throughout with most player's comfortable doing a job in numerous positions and will be healthy competition to win a place in the starting 11.

Carroll is, was and will never be in Benteke`s class. Comparing them is is a poor excuse for a lame argument as to why he doesn`t suit us.
