I know I'm not the only one feeling this way (as I've seen a couple of similar responses to other posts below) but Sanches (or, to give him his full name San (dwi) ches) is starting to grow on me as an option.

Let's face it, most clubs have been severely affected by the C.V., especially the loss of gate receipts which, for a club like Liverpool, add up to over £100m a year (just enough for Grealish, lol) . So, much as we are struggling to buy before we sell, other clubs are reluctant to offer favourable payment terms to make players affordable.

I know it's a bad idea to spread our player payments over several years, Ed002 has pointed this out enough times, but it appears to be the best approach that the owners have for new players, so we should trust their business sense.

On to Sanches, he does have quite a lot of the qualities that Klopp looks for. He is young, speedy and energetic and he can cover a number of positions When we saw him a few years back with Swansea, he was still a teenager and pretty raw, and he seems to have done well at Bayern and Lille. And, most important, he appears to be available on the 'never-never'! Although he may only be worth closer to €30m or less, we've got to accept that if we want payment terms, teams are going to inflate their prices, as Wolves did.

He has had a lot of injury problems, but I think Mark made the point that if we can get 20 games out of him, that should be enough to alleviate the burden on our other midfielders.

It is a shame that he will take up a non-HG space in our squad, I thought that someone like Aurelien Tchouameni may be a better bet as he qualifies as U21 for the 21/ 22 season, but Ed002 has said we have no interest.

There's also a part of me that looks at the clubs interested in Nat Phillips and doesn't wonder if there's a player+cash deal to be done, especially with someone like Brighton.

But, if Klopp and the recruitment team are happy with Sanches, then I'll be interested to see how he does. Midfield rotation options of Fabs/ Hendo/ Thiago/ Sanches/ Ox/ Keita/ Jones doesn't look too shabby, especially when you include 2 others at opposite ends of their career - Milner and Elliot.

Hehehe do you really think spending on Sanches (by your own admission injury prone) is better then giving Elliott and Jones here and there game time?

Tbh I've no problem whatever decisions Klopp makes it's interesting to see how quickly opinions change here 😂.

{Ed0666's Note - let’s be honest here and I’m owning this I thought Gini was gonna be terrible for us and he ended up with a premier league and a Champions league with us and conversely I thought Keita was gonna elevate us to unheralded levels and look how that turned out. Clearly we are looking at a particular type of player i.e Bissouma, Sanchez type so it means the coaching staff want a grafter and a Didier Dechamps type player which Sanchez is but I think the consensus is he’s not that good but the point I’m making is that we never know what impact a player has made until he plays for us. You never know he could turn out to be elite level after all he’s just won the title for Lille. My fear is he turns into a Barkley/Drinkwater type signing and we have spunked all that money and have nothing worthy to show for it. If he signs I truly hope he proves me wrong.

He didn’t do well at Bayern at all. They binned him off as soon as they could as they weren’t happy with him or his attitude. He’s not really been all that with Lille. They’d have won the title if he wasn’t there or not, he really didn’t make a telling contribution to that, truth is that only time he ever pulls his finger out is for Portugal in a tournament.

The man has barely been able to play 20 games a season through persistent injury (think he only started 15 league games for Lille last season) .

Kind of think that we’ve enough injury prone players without adding another. We’d be better off buying no one and re-evaluating in January.

Zen So you ok with spending weeks if not months scraping together enough money to buy an injury prone player that will only be able to play 20 games out of a season. Yeah that sounds brilliant mate🤨.

But it’s going to be fine margins this year, long thing. He can cover the ground and he can cover positions which is what we need. We have to keep the midfield fresh. We are going back to a more high tempo style. If it’s a choice of RS or nobody it has to be the player because we can’t take the risk. The overall squad is a little short.

Played 29 last year 60 league games in 2 years for lille.

Are we realistically signing a starter ahead of thiago, hendo, and fabs or lightening the load.

So his game numbers are decent to me.

That's not the point Ed66 mate, when you're admitting the player is injury prone in Zeddicus case and yet happy to spunk 30-40M? Coz he might give us 20 games here and there? Don't get that logic at all.

As I've always said will always back Klopp, I'm not too bothered with signing players or not coz the biggest singing we made was to bring Klopp and he's still here that what matters. :-D.

{Ed0666's Note - but he might have an injury free season and play 40 games next season and win the title with us? I’m sure if we’re aware of his injury issues then the medical dept at LFC will be. Surely we don’t want another Aqualini on our hands.

I don’t have an issue with his ability but he isn’t the type of midfielder we need, he’s another box to box option that can’t sit in the holding role so what’s the point, we have Jones, Keita, Ox, Elliott, Milner and Henderson who can all do that, but the only player who can cover for Fabinho is Henderson. If Henderson gets injured we don’t really have anybody who can provide that graft and solidity in midfield to that level either. Then you have the injury problems on top of that which we should absolutely not be looking to take a risk on after the season we’ve had, especially when our midfield is already stacked with injury prone players. None of it makes any sense to me at all and for all the rumours i can’t see us signing him, the transfer team are very clever people and won’t be granting funds on risky or frivolous investments, at least i hope not.

{Ed0666's Note - maybe we sign Saul and this is all one big smokescreen. Can you imagine the humble pie we all will be eating?? 😂

Lol, I’m trying to look at the positives, folks. Otherwise the knot of bile, hatred and disappointment may eat me up from the inside 😂😂.

Interested to see how this plays out. I think I’m in a similarly place to you, Ed0666, and I also thought Gini would be a flop and yet, despite what we may think of him, the record will show that he was an ever present in CM in the most successful Liverpool team since the 1980s.

Elliot seems better than anyone who has been mentioned in the transfer window or maybe I just have red tinted specs on.

{Ed0666's Note - let’s not overhype and put too much pressure on him. He’s a prodigious talent that’s needs to be nurtured and will blossom at his own pace. The last thing we want is over burden him with expectations and he withers away.

Think zed mate you're over-thinking, biggest positives are Anfield will be bouncing again, we have easy Start and winnable 7-8 games on trot which can/ will set the tempo of our 1st half of the season.

Think Christmas it's where will decide our Fate. Things aren't that bad. Just think it's better to save cash and then spend on quality rather then play hoping game tho.

Renato Sanches is no Ken Aguero.

Sanches if he does come night come with a rocket up his a*se and something to prove, had a big move early on in his carrier looked like the world was at his feet and for one reason or another blew it, hopefully if he is signed he takes the chance and runs with it. We’ve had more underwhelming signings that have set the side alight, would he be my first choice? No, but he must have something the team involved see that makes him with the pursuit.

I am not one of those that gest exited over Sanches, but will support him if he joins. Regarding injuries I guess the medical departement in LFC have a better insight than we do. When it comes to attitude, it might be a personality «problem», or i could just be that he has matured late, and by now have a more mature attitude (hopefully for hin) .

A while ago many on here moshed about how Konate was injury prone and how it was a mistake to sign him and after preseason, nobody is talking about that anymore. Sanches is not my first choice BUT Klopp wants him and that is what is important. Klopp does not sign players for the sake of it, fact. He signs players he thinks he can work with and with the fundamental to his system. Many thought a lot of players we signed under Klopp (Ox) would flop while those we thought would kill it, flopped (Naby for now) so let’s chill, support the kid and hope he dies well.
