am i right in saying the Eds stated a few days ago that if utd win the europa league and finish in the top 4 then 5th place gets champions league? i've tried to find it but cant.

Ed is that the same for the champions league if city win or Chelsea or Liverpool if one of them 2 won it and finished top 4 then 5th in the league would get champions league.

{Ed002's Note - Yes it is, but not both - so if Manchester City win the CL and MU win the Europa League and both miss out on the top four then there will be five entries with 4th dropping to the Europa League.}

{Ed002's Note - There is a maximum number of five teams. If Manchester United were to win EL and Chelsea CL and both end up out of the top 4, then fourth pace will drop to the EL. These is a maximum of five sides.}

I understand that Ed but when we won it and finished 2nd the 5th team did not get into the champions league and I don’t think there was 5 teams from Germany this season so that’s why I was wondering if it was new this year.

{Ed001's Note - no, that's because the extra place is for the Europa League winner. If the Europa League had been won by an English team that year, England would have had 5 teams in the Champions League.}

Hi Ed,

In 2019, Liverpool won the champions league and Chelsea won the Europa league. But I believe only 4 teams entered the champions league, where both Liverpool and Chelsea finished in the top 4 (2nd and 3rd place) .

Does that mean this is a new rule or am I getting my years mixed up?

But if we managed to get 4th place and both Man U win the EL and city win the champions league then we will drop out 😖 sounds about right to cap this season off!
