I can take losses, but this is the worst I've felt since the loss in the final last year. Maybe I shouldn't have quit drinking, I don't know. I need a pick me up badly. I think it is because the game was there for the taking and we didn't take advantage of the opportunities that we had. I'm trying to take solace in that, but I don't believe in moral victories. Even after losing 3-0 I think we are the better side. But, the scoreline doesn't support my belief.

100% empathy and agreement with you there stone.

What makes it worse is Klopp coming out with statements like “our best champions league away performance in the last 2 seasons” and “we can’t play any better”

yeah, I don't understand that comment either. Maybe it's just a psychological strategy to keep the players from being too down.

Would you feel better Ron if Klopp had said “I thought we were rubbish. I don’t know what they were doing on the pitch. How Milner missed I’ll never know. ”
Of course he’s going to accentuate the positive. He’s trying to keep the team focused and confident for the remaining games. Jesus, one defeat away from home and everybody is throwing their toys out.

I have to agree with you there Ron. I saw his first post match interviews and he was smiling and saying things like " I am completely happy with the way the boys played" and "Messi is unstoppable". As far as I am concerned, Ronaldo is just as equally "unstoppable" and yet the young inexperienced boys of Ajax managed it quite well, didn't they? And how can he say he is happy with the boys when they miss clear golden chances. It seemed like he was just being thankful for the privilege of having gotten so far in the competition, when most of us think the team deserved it through hard effort and quality play. I don't expect Klopp to show sadness, regret or cry on camera, but keep the huge smile to yourself, man.

I know this will be an unpopular post, but I know what it is, with my opinion . It'll be his fourth year next season (I am not saying this season is a write off by any stretch of the imagination) . Klopp has been blessed with owners who have given him what he wanted and when he wanted it. Most of us are dreaming of dynasty (I believe we have good enough players now, for one) and yet, he will probably be gone in 3 years' time. So if we don't start winning, and like right now, not only will key players start leaving but we'll be faced with the dreaded "transition phase" in a couple of years.

I like to think it's about commenting on unfulfilled potential, but I'm probably just being impatient.

There is “accentuating the positives” and then there is utter tripe that only serves to make the team look weak and defeatist. Could you imagine Shanks saying that? Or any other successful manager?
He didn’t need to say that, he could have said he was happy with the performance.
Best away performance for 2 years? Absolute nonsense and I know for a fact the team can play better.

Didnt Ronaldo score two goals against the boys of Ajax?

God damn it. If we had have taken our chances and Barcelona missed theirs then things would be completely different (obviously), but the point is its was fine margins and we played really really well in the main. We out competed or were equal with them in practically every department except goals, no one does that at the Nou Camp. It was a great game and a great performance in a really difficult arena. Of course Klopp is going to accentuate the positives because there are lots to take. I wish people would take disappointment with a bit more realism.

My biggest frustration is that I feel the final would be more winnable than usual.
And then watching Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum huffing and puffing trying to get a goal when they'd have been better trying to prevent them.

Yes Ronaldo scored. But Ajax made it to the semis and Juventus did not. And Ajax has no star player at the same level as Ronaldo and Messi. That's my point. Messi scoring twice and being "unstoppable" is used to describe their victory. Our boys' inability to reply and score is papered over with " best away performance in 2 years". Is there anyone out there who thinks the score reflects everything about the game, goals aside? Both teams had the exact number of shots on target. One team scored 3. The other scored none. I've watched almost every post match conference Klopp has given since he joined LFC. How many times have we heard him say "we need to to better" in this area or that area. "Much much better", despite having won the game. And here, after a season defining game, he decides to smile and express awe and admiration for the opponent, after losing.

Ron, Klopp was correct in his analysis. The game plan worked for the most part and for 70 minutes, we were the better team both offensively and esp. defensively. It got so bad for Barcelona that their fans were booing them and Messi for the most part, was shut down. Had e taken our chances then we are not here and would be hailing Klopp for a master stroke cos tactically, I have never seen Barcelona get dominated on their home patch like we did since Bayern Pummeled them in the 12/ 13 CL semi final.

Now, would I have used the same words Klopp used? No cos a 3-0 win is not something you want to deflect away regardless of how well you played BUT if even the Barcelona fans, their manager and many other pundits and ex players all over the world, are saying the score was harsh on LFC cos we dominated or matched Barcelona for 75 minutes then Klopp has a right to say it. It is not media spin. It is what we all saw with our own eyes.

{Ed002's Note - If Klopp has turned out and said that then Liverpool needs a new coach. One who has a game plan for 90 minutes.}

a game can get away from you very quickly regardless of how well you played in it till it got away from you.
