Had an argument with a mate yesterday and he was of the opinion that Liverpool need a signing like Frenkie De Jong of Ajax to add still to the midfield and as extra cover for the defence.

I hadn't really taken note of this De jong guy so I went to watch some of his YouTube clips and watched the Ajax vs Twente match.
In my opinion I think he plays almost exactly like Fabinho like exactly just that he's 2/ 3 years younger and not as strong plus they both play as midfielders that can cover in defence which is why PSG is in the battle for him of course after loosing Fabinho to us

What do you think of Frenkie De Jong, what are his strengths and weaknesses and what do you think he can potentially be?

Thanks.

Good player, but as you say, I’d prefer Fabinho right now. The lad will also demand a price that would make even Citeh reconsider.

Just went to Barcelona for 90 million euros according to a few sources.

Strength: Dutch football education.

Weakness: His surname, De Jong, sounds like he might kung-fu kick a Liverpool legend in the chest when he's about 30 years old.

In all seriousness though I don't ever recall watching him play.

We’ve perhaps got one of our own (well, another would-be Dutch Master) in young Hoever.
No point shelling out £90 million if we can wait for another couple of years?

Yeah, defence had been such a massive issue we need extra cover in top of what we’ve brought in. I would love extra cover in every position, all made up of world class players but we live in the real world.

Juicer- De Jong plays in a different position to Hoever so they would have no bearing on each other.

OP, you said that De Jong would add steel to the midfield and cover in defence? You mean like Fabinho is currently adding steel to the midfield and able cover in defence at CB and RB right now? I don't get this comparison, really. Fabs is only 23 so he still has a long way to go and learn and get better. Never seen the kid play so can't judge him BUT I'll take Fabs over him all day long.

Apparently he's agreed to join Barcelona who beat Man City and PSG for his signature. I'm sure Ed02 pointed that out in the last sharkopod.
