Question for ed001 please.

Could you please explain in detail what went wrong for Robbie Keane at Liverpool? Why did we sign him in the first place and how come he was allowed to leave after just a few months? Thank you.

{Ed001's Note - I can't say everything but he was a dick and so made himself almost immediately unwelcome. It was a big relief to the club to get rid of him asap. Rafa wanted him but the scouts had not done their homework and should have told the club to look elsewhere.}

Very intriguing Ed001 because he had a whiter than white reputation when he was playing for Ireland.

{Ed001's Note - not amongst his team-mates.}

Ed, as I recall, he came in during one transfer window, was played out of position, and was shipped out the next transfer window of the same season! He was used by Rafa to make a point to the board that only his choice of signings would be acceptable.

But then subsequently when Gerrard got injured and we had noone to replace him playing in the '10' role behind the striker, we ended up coming second in the league. Objectively, do you think that if Rafa hadn't been so stubborn and Keane had been available we could have won the league that year?

{Ed001's Note - sorry but you are wrong. Keane was booted out because of his own actions and nothing to do with this pathetic nonsense story that his people put out about him being Rafa making a point to the board. Rafa was the one who chased Keane and got his way to sign him. There was no point to be made other than if you don't behave you get booted out.

Rafa was in no way being stubborn, quite the opposite. He fully admitted he had made a huge mistake in signing the dick.}

That's a relief actually. The two times we've come second it has been by such fine margins. I'm glad stubborness/ making a point wasn't one of them. If anything it was making the wrong signing, which you could argue is the main reason we don't win it every year!

I didn't realise the story came from his people either. Thanks for putting us straight.

He's the reason Stephen Ireland is bald now apparently. Took banter a step too far as I understand it.

When he joined Liverpool he put across that it was his dream move however he refused to play in the system Rafa wanted (on the wing I think) . Realistically he wasn't going to be the main man while Torres was in the team and think this pissed him off.
Read stuff on here about him before and Ed's have hinted that there was something else going on behind the scenes, don't know if it was to do with his lifestyle/ fondness of a pint or something else.
Terrible reputation amongst a lot of people. but as an Ireland fan he was a superstar.

I never in a million years would have thought he had a bad reputation mate.

Seem to remember that Rafa had trouble with Keane regards to his tactical discipline. He played a few games as the main striker when Torres injured. Rafa required a striker playing on the shoulder of the opponents centre backs, stretching play, getting behind fullbacks opening the pitch for Gerrard, Kuyt and Benayoun between the lines. Trouble was Keane was like the typical school boy player who wanted to do everything, coming back to get involved in build up minimising space for Gerrard and co. He couldn’t do the job Rafa needed him to. Also think he second choice that summer he came in. Rafa wanted Barry but didn’t happen so Keane came in with Gerrard role possibley changing to play alongside Mascherano. This didn’t click because Alsonso just played to well and Stevies understanding with Torres was our most potent weapon.

{Ed001's Note - that was nothing to do with the problem. It was all about his off pitch actions.}
