Morning Ed2,
Hope the shenanigans of deadline day haven't take too much out of you all!

Quick question regarding shirt sales if I may. I read your previous response to a shirt sales enquiry the other day, mentioning that the majority of the revenue from the retail sales goes to the Distributor, manufacturer and the retailer. This I totally understand as my line of work is wholesale ( womenswear) .

You mentioned the likes of Barcelona and Madrid have negotiated a different agreement whereby they take a larger proportion of revenue from shirt sales than most clubs.

Are there any clubs in the Premier League that have this agreement? Man United for instance, they have a mega deal with Nike so was wondering if they have negotiated a deal from shirt sales outside of their own club retail and club online retail cut?

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Adidas are the shirt manufacturers for Manchester United and they pay £75M a year for that pleasure - Manchester United do not have a separate sales deal. Barcelona are in the strongest position and are able to command a similar amount from Nike as Manchester United get but are then able to get an additional €60M per year from their own sales before additional income is provided to Nike. Nike also sell the shirts world-wide and gets further income from that. In terms of numbers of shirts sold world-wide last season, Barcelona came out on top of the rankings as usual:
Barcelona - 3.637M
Bayern Munich - 3.312M
Chelsea - 3.102M
Manchester United - 2.977M
Real Madrid - 2.867M
PSG - 2.213M
Arsenal - 2.055M
Atletico Madrid - 1.977M
Juventus - 1.678M
AC Milan - 1.286M

Obviously the sums involved are vast with Adidas and Nike paying in the order of three quarters of a Billion pounds (e.g. the value of Liverpool FC) to these clubs two clubs alone over 10 years. Don't for one minute think that they have not considered buying a club of their own.}

Wouldn't that be complicated though Ed? Would they still want their brand on opposing teams if they had their own?

{Ed002's Note - It would not be complicated at all. I have no idea how they would look to work with other clubs.}

So man utd get 75million for shirt sponsorship and not a penny more?

{Ed002's Note - No, I did not say anything like that. The money from Adidas is nothing whatsoever to do with shirt sponsorship.}
