Delighted to already see a few posts about Allen playing well. Everyone keeps saying to sell him, I say keep him. He's a model professional. Steps in when asked and can cover a few positions in midfield. If the plan of the club is to bring in youth he's the kind of player you want around to be a positive influence and keep them grounded.

I still think he is taking tbe place of one of the young guys. He is a decent and capable player but not good enough for where we need to be.

allen feels like a new signing and could force his way in the team. midfeild of can, lucas, allen works. henderson and allen are like for like with their runs and intricate passes. of course allen doesn't have the range henderson has. firmino dissapointed and how long does he get to keep his place?

It's refreshing to see Allen getting praise. Normally he gets slated and i have been a critic in the past but as you point out, a model professional. He never bitches or moans and just gets on with it. I remember Lucas got so much beef when he joined and after about 2 seasons started playing well. Now i'm not tempted in the slightest to call to get rid of him but only if he keeps improving. Can we replace him with anyone better now Klopps in? That surely will be the deciding factor on whether or not he stays or goes.

yeah it took lucas 2 years to learn how to adapt to the premier league. I think that's all players need is time. some take longer than others, but some are also incapable of changing.

I'm on the fence about Allen. He has this habit, as Fencey says, of throwing in the odd good game, but not consistent enough to be a starter. That being the case, I do think he is blocking youth - why put someone on the bench who you know will be inconsistent rather than picking someone who has the potential to be world class?

Don't agree with comparing Allen and Lucas. Lucas came from another league whereas Allen has been playing in the premiership for 5 years, and in the championship before then.

Do still think he meant that pass today tho, and was a moment of brilliance!

It's great that he had a good game, and he could really push on from here. But if we need to sell to buy or need room to bring youth through I think he is currently close to the top of the list of players to be sold (I know there's no such list).

I'm sure 90% of us want to keep Can, Hendo, Lucas for cm, so if we want to upgrade or even bring youth in some one has to make way and who does that leave Allen, Milner?, there's not a lot to be done. Don't think much will happen this window but unless he tears it up and outperforms Can and Hendo I can't see him staying.

There are games when Allen has looked like a 30 million cm. Can he get to a consistent level is what we need to srr now. I really love the lad. I hope he doesn't get a little run now and then another bloody injury.

It's his lack of consistency that let's him down. When he plays well he has memorable performances. Paulo like you said, a £30 mill player. Maybe Klopp could bring the best out of him. I think the entire team suffered from the past 18 months of BR. In no way am I trying to slag him off, just stating the obvious in how the team played with their heads down in that time. Tonight's performance is a result of Klopp, and Allen definitely benefited. I just hate the thought of buying all new players again, needing time for them to settle etc. would be delighted to see a player like himself finally step up and make it to th e next level.

{Ed001's Note - he has never and will never play like a £30m player. He had a decent game, but he was far from special last night. If it had been Henderson, for instance, we would have not even mentioned him, or maybe complained that he did not get forward enough or show enough energy. People are getting carried away simply because it is Allen.}
