After a positive end to this rollercoaster of a season i find it odd that this site has descended into a state of points scoring; people arguing over Wijnaldum, people arguing over Williams, people arguing over Hodgson - we’re not seriously going to do this are we, really?!

All debates and talking points and frustrations are now, finally, irrelevant. It is done. The absolute nightmare that was the 2020/ 21 season is finally over, and my god, how good does it feel.

Second only to 2014/ 15, this has been the most miserable Liverpool season in living memory, a historical car crash of epic proportions, the result of many different factors that went far beyond poor results and rubbish football.

Yet somehow, someway, we ended up finishing third. We don’t get a trophy, and we don’t get any glory. We finished way below the expectations that we had at the start of the season, and yet i can’t think of many times i have been as proud to be a Liverpool Supporter.

For these lads to have pulled it out the bag this late on - 8 wins and 2 draws is a remarkable run even during a regular football season - is nothing short of astonishing. A team with no centre backs, no capacity to rotate and seemingly no confidence or mojo of any kind has dragged its way to third in the final few weeks of the season. We’ve seen Salah and Jota conjuring goals out of absolutely nothing. Robertson has been babysitting two centre backs that were virtually playing at semi-pro level last season, and those centre backs have themselves played way beyond what we could ever have expected of them. Thiago has somehow managed to find composure in the most dire of situations, Firmino has turned his season around despite looking as though he just wanted to burst into tears all year. Trent has been playing with the intensity of a Bath Salts junkie who’s been plugged into the National Grid. A goalkeeper scored a last minute winner.

It has been, as far as playing football can be, nothing short of heroic. They have dragged this club into a position of stability and I eagerly look forward to them reaping their rewards once the new season starts. A few transfers look to be coming through the doors and many of the lads will get some well deserved rest. Even the new home kit looks way better than i thought it was going to. The future is looking bright.

Here’s hoping that the summer is both a relaxing and fruitful one, for players and supporters alike. I have a good feeling about next season.

Up the reds. Allez la rouge. YNWA.

under normal circumstances finishing with 30pts less than the previous season would have been a poor season.

However taking everything that has happened into account there can be no denying that finishing 3rd has been a monumental effort by everybody concerned.

The very fact that the club remains in the champions league and does not have to play thursday night football can only help in not only attracting potential new signings but also gives us better leverage with the stars we already have.

I must give special mention to Jurgen Klopp and Allison Becker who both had to deal with personal tragedy, not being able to say goodbye to there loved ones must have been horrendous and shows us once again that there are more important things in life than football.

The fans were outstanding today and on a personal level i hope all football fans can attend the matches next season.
They provide the much needed atmosphere that players can feed off.

I am confident that with some smart moves in the transfer market during the summer, both comings and goings and we don't suffer the same amount of injuries as this season we will challenge Man City again next season.

Our rivals had the chance to make us suffer this year and did not take it, we won't be giving them the same chance next year.

Excellent post AW i agreed with everything you said.

Klopp is a genius. Look how he handled the Mane No Hug incident. Played it down, refused to indulge the baiting media, didn’t publicly reprimand the player, didn’t drop him as a punishment and now Mane delivers when we needed it most.

A very good point by kingkenny there. Our rivals could have ensured that this was a disastrous season for us.

They didn't however. And coupled with our amazing finish to the season, we can move on to next season with some positivity and excitement.
