Don't know how true this is but Chelsea and Man City, who were never the biggest fans of the idea but were worried by the other teams involved getting that much financial backing and missing out, are now retracting interest after seeing such a venomous backlash and they feel they can persuade Spurs to as well. Its interesting that this will leave clubs with American owners as the ones still pushing it . However if three of the six withdraw, with the three in Italy seemingly heading in that direction as well it will kill plans for now at least .

{Ed0666's Note - if true FSG’s position will be intenible

Ed, do you see FSG selling liverpool if this superleague doesn't get off the ground?

{Ed0666's Note - no I don’t see them selling willingly but I feel that they have gone down a cul-de-sac they can’t get out of

Problem is ed0666, you get rid of the Americans and we will end up with another set equally as power hungry.

The game went to money long ago and it will eventually end in a breakaway. We have been told it would for years.

{Ed0666's Note - you can’t be sure that future custodians won’t be honorable and put club first

I am 100% certain that future club owners will want to run the club to maximise their profits and ultimately make themselves a vast payday. But the world isn't split into good and evil - fan groups can run a club into the dust through greed or petty squabbling, hedge fund owners can run things with the belief that their best route to a payday is to become an even bigger brand to leverage and sell and the best way to do that is to be constantly winning, and everything inbetween. Money, success and fans can all live together when everyone approaches with the right attitude.

Well it's not like Liverpool are the only ones discussing this. By all accounts there are 20+ european clubs who are all thinking the same thing. Has anyone stopped to think about this before they get all xenophobic and slagging off the Americans?
