The signing of kovacic is absolutely pointless without any decent strikers making the runs and giving him forward passing options.
He will end up just retaining the ball and passing sideways like someone already at the club.
We already have some serious talent in the creative midfield roles in coutinho, Lallana etc so that's not the problem, it's the lack of a decent striker to feed off this creative talent.
He's a smart player but if the transfer kitty has been blown on him then the season is already over.

Exactly what i have been saying mate. If the club does not sign a top striker this summer, then all these midfield signings of Milner and Kovacic will mean absolutely nothing. What is the point of creating endless chances if no one knows how to put the ball in the f*****g net on a consistent basis? The whole window imo will be a big failure if a consistent goalscorer does not arrive. Ings is not top quality, Sturridge is injury prone and Origi is young and not very good anyways so a top striker has to be a priority or i can see another painful and worthless season for the club.

We also need a defensive minded midfielder, or we will continue to ship more goals next season. I think its just as important as getting a striker.
Also the strikers we have aren't actually that bad, maybe if they were given a run of games and some trust instead of putting a 20 year old winger in their position instead they would score more goals?

Rogers policy since ge came is to sign hundreds of midfielders and bang average or injury prone strikers.

Surely he can't make the same mistake again!

Mikey, you need to relax. The transfer window hasn't even opened yet.

The Eds have repeatedly stated that we are looking for another striker. That's in addition to Ings, Origi and the amazing but unfortunate Sturridge. Big wages have just come off the books and with the sale of Sterling (and others) we should definitely be able to both attract and afford another forward option.

Maybe read the last sentence again guys.
"If the kitty's been blown"
We need another decent striker, plus one or two other additions, let's hope we actually still have the money as kovacic is a luxury signing not a necessary one really.

Maybe this is the "death by football" that Rodgers wants? 99% of the ball and no end product?

Why are people moaning that the kitty might have been blown? We've spent €23m which is basically ballo, aspas, borini and were selling more INCLUDING sterling for like £45m which is more than we could possibly spend on a striker even if we wanted to. Don't worry selling sterling has made us flush again

Next season has been eclared over, the minute the owners decided to keep BR, whichever Striker we bring. We finished 6 this season and played some awful football. 16 of our goals were scored by Gerrad and Sterling who we will not have next year and I think more than 10 assists between them. The guys we bought would have never made it to the starting 11 of the top 4. Kovachic scored 5 and gave 2 assists in 35 appearances. Even if we will have a decent striker - who will pass him the ball. Kovachic is another dribbler, like Ibe, like the rest. I honestly cannot see us finish above Spurs let alone top 4.

Spot on, Mikey! Been posting the same thing and feels good to know that I'm not alone. I have been supportive of the owners since they came in and am profoundly disappointed with their dreadful decision to keep BR as I never believed it could happen based on their track record with firing failures with the Red Sox. I was wrong to have trusted them. Now I know that them and BR are all the same, clueless and feckless.
