question for ed001.

what happens to the Champions league spot given to the winner of europa league if the winning team has already qualified through their league position?

thanks.

IanH95

{Ed001's Note - it goes to the team who finished highest in the league that never qualified otherwise. So 5th if it is a Prem side.}

If one of Liverpool, Spurs or unt won the Europa and Chelsea somehow won the champions league we would most likely have 6 teams in it next year.

{Ed001's Note - I am pretty sure you can only have a maximum of 5 teams in it.}

Are you sure about that Ed1? According to the WEFA official site if the Champions league winner doesn't finish top 4 (e. g. Chelsea this year) and the EL winner also doesn't finish top 4 (e. g. Liverpool) than they both get in to the champions league together with our top 3 but the group that finished 4 goes to the EL (as there is a limit of maximum 5 from the same league) .

Where does it say that it works the other way around as well? If the CL and EL both finish top 4 then why would the team at 5th get a free entrance? What is the logic here?

{Ed001's Note - I really don't care to be honest. No I am not sure, but I really don't see what logic has to do with anything? Logic would say that only Champions would be in the Champions League, but we get lots of teams that are not champions of anything.}

Any association can only have a maximum of 5 teams. I think if an English team outside of the top 4 win both the champions and europa league only the top 3 would qualify.

{Ed002's Note - To answer the original question there is no Champions League entry for 5th place.}

4.) 22 Feb 2016 22:00:41
I'm not sure why I included Spurs in that as they will finish top 4 anyway but you are probably right Ed. I could just imagine how annoying it would be to watch your team finish fourth then lose a champions league slot to two teams that came nowhere near.

End of the day, it's not very likely to happen this season IMO 😄.

question for ed001- what's the rules with hitting penalties.

if a player misses a pen they can score the rebound, so if a player 'scuffed' the ball on purpose could they then run onto it and technically dribble the ball into the net?

just curious after the Barcelona pen.

IanH95

{Ed001's Note - you know I do not have any idea about that. I think, from when a double hit penalty has been taken, that someone else has to touch it before he can take a second touch, but I stand to be corrected if I am wrong.}

1.) 16 Feb 2016 18:16:52
I think another player has to touch it beforehand.

2.) 16 Feb 2016 18:43:54
what about if it hits the post then? surely the player would be allowed to burry the rebound.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

3.) 16 Feb 2016 19:07:45
On no dead ball situation eg corner, free kick, penalty or goal kick can the same player kick the ball a second time if no other player has touched the ball.

4.) 16 Feb 2016 19:21:44
And in a shoot out once the balls forward momentum stops then it is dead.

5.) 16 Feb 2016 21:27:56
After the players have taken positions in accordance with this Law, the referee signals for the penalty kick to be taken
The player taking the penalty kick must kick the ball forward
He must not play the ball again until it has touched another player
The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward
When a penalty kick is taken during the normal course of play, or time has been extended at half-time or full time to allow a penalty kick to be taken or retaken, a goal is awarded if, before passing between the goalposts and under the crossbar:

the ball touches either or both of the goalposts and/ or the crossbar and/ or the goalkeeper
The referee decides when a penalty kick is complete.

So, i think, the taker can only strike the ball again once touched by the keeper, if the keeper saves and it rebounds back into play it's a free for all. Not sure what happens if it comes just off post or crossbar, or keeper tips it over or wide.

Question for Ed001, who would you rather as second keeper Valdes or bogdan?

Also I assume given the choice you would say none. So who realistically would you have signed to push mignolet for the no1 spot?

IanH95

{Ed001's Note - I would have signed Begovic to be number one.}

1.) 16 Jul 2015 06:15:52
Begovic and ward as his no.2
