Eds please post in Banter section.

Fellow Reds, I posted 12m ago under a slightly different user name.

Message remains similar. With Lucas we win games. BR has alluded to our form since Jan 13. Actually the turnaround performance wise, started when Lucas recovered from injury in November 12. His work is often unseen, snuffing out angles, tracking runners, covering forward advancing team mates. Take him away, you expose the back 5 to danger. Yes, he takes the odd foul for the team, but take him away and the defence have a problem.

Like the rest of you guys I'm on cloud 9. That feeling of uncertainty whenever we take the field is becoming a distant memory. That's the first time I've felt like this since we finished second under RAFA. I actually expect us to win whoever we play against. This is how it was in the 80s. We're not quite there yet, but we're on the right road and I expect us to get there. I don't think the league is in or grasp this year, but with additional quality signings, reckon it is ours next season. A boas I admit, but we've got the worlds best player, playing for us, at our peak.

I'm too damn lazy to post normally but love this site and read it daily. For me a special thanks to. Macca (where ever he is), Adam YNWA, Malik and my fellow Trelawney's army member, Chris in Tamworth. You guys actually talk sense. Cheers. Happy Christmas to all LFC fans. As ever YNWA.

- Paul Merson's prediction

"I can only see one winner here. The bookmakers have got this horribly wrong as City should be 1/3 on as they are absolute certainties. City at home are phenomenal, while if you take Liverpool's great result at Spurs out of the equation, they got battered at Arsenal and well beat at Hull. I think they will get ripped apart by City."

PAUL PREDICTS: 4-1

- Red Rum's prediction

"I can see a close game here. Between the 2 teams 93 goals have been scored so far this season, so I can see plenty of goals in this game. Aguero is injured which is a big boost for Liverpool and with Suarez on fire at the moment we have every chance of getting a result. We will need to keep the pressure on and stop City from playing. We did that against Spurs and reaped the benefits. How Paul Merson can just disregard that result is amazing. I just hope City underestimate us as much as him."

RED RUM PREDICTS: 3-3

Merry Christmas everyone!

i wouldn't worry too much about these pundits saying who is going to win sky have tony gale in every friday and he just runs down the fixture list predicts what everyone would pick the favs and a hard one is a draw r if its west ham maybe a draw, for the spurs game he discounted us and said spurs would be too powerful for us.he he he

Agree0 Disagree0

My prediction is 1-3 to us and 2 balls off the post.

'City unable to contain our fast moving attack with Sterling, Suarez and Coutinho swapping positions and always on the move. Suarez scoring a double and Coutinho with his first goal of the season.

Happy Christmas Ed's and fellow Reds. Here's to a great 6 months coming up. Hopefully we get some good results over the holidays but I urge fans to keep positive and back all our lads through every minute of each game. One game at a time and focus on our team only. Our season will be determined on many factors not just playing the top teams. Ultimately top 4 is the goal, everything else is a bonus. Enjoy the holidays one and all.

Hey Eds and fellow Reds, Have not been on for a while but all I can say is Top of the Christmas Tree and long may it continue.

Great credit to Rodgers and the team and Suarez is simply on a another planet, out of this world, world class you could go on and on but it is great to see we have a true world class player amongst the ranks.

I trually believe we will give City and Chelsea a game so please god I am right and I may not be on for a while so Merry Christmas to everybody Eds and Reds alike and hope for great new year!

Top 5 memories of the season so far

1. Louis Suarez ever since he cam back from his ban. He is just magical.

2.Flanno scoring at WHL and his joy and then the rest of the team celebrating. Brilliant.

3.Hendo finally receiving the rcognition that he deserves. Allen to follow soon all being well.

4. Mignolet saving the penalty against Stoke. An early sign that this is to be a special season.

5. Kolo Toure and any interview that he gives. He just loves being at the club. Great guy

Top of the league. Thank you Brendan.

Happy Christmas to all in the Liverpool family

question for ed001/ed002 or any reds, if poss,
an interesting question came up today and I didn't know the answer, so here goes. Can a club agree to sell a player who is currently on loan for the season to a different club than the one he has been loaned to? Thanks guys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No because he is under contract and his registration has been transferred.}

Smashing ed002 thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry eds but what happened with Sahin then?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - his loan was terminated.}

Now then Ed, I'm not sure about this.

I think it depends on whether it was a "loan to buy" contract. If it is, then I agree with Ed, but, if it's a straight loan for a season with no "to buy" option, then the owning club could agree to sell a player with the transfer going through once the loan has expired.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Then he wouldn't be on loan would he.}

If a player is on loan for the season, you can still agree a deal with another club for his transfer in say April, but the deal won't go through until end of May.
He's on loan when you agree the deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are grasping at straws.}

Merry Xmas to all Eds for best football site around by a mile or two. Content and banter is quality. Eds work is around 90% accurate (Especially Ed002) and the other 10% is made up from a mixture of wind up, taking the p*ss, and general RTFPs. Must admit I have used the Retromingent Gliffnard phrase several thousand times this year and looking for new one for 2014. So keep up the good work guys, we all appreciate thetime you all put into this.So if you-ll excuse me know I must make my way and be introduced to several pints of guinness.

Eds and reds, just putting it out there, if we were to win our next two games would we be favourites for the league, and would BR tell the media we're aiming for the top and are real contenders or still play down title talk?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shall we just concentrate on city on Sunday? One game at a time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he'll change his approach tbh toddy, judging from his pressers he's very much a 1 game at a time kinda guy, very grounded. He will want to keep the players completely focused. No more matches like Hull where the whole team didn't perform. I think if we don't win a game it won't be for the lack of effort from now on. It's nice we haven't lost 2 in a row too, long may that continue. Someone's winning streak will come to an end on thurs eve, getting exciting innit lol

Hi Ed's, I was Wondering what tactics the Ed's and other Liverpool Fans think brendan will set us up with against city on boxing day?
I personally reckon he will set us up to play very similar to how we did against Spurs but making extra effort to cut out silly mistakes!, but although I have confidence in the team, seeing the amount of goals city have been scoring this season mainly there 6 goals against spurs and arsenal, its fair to say I feel abit apprehensive.
but in saying that why wouldn't be go at them in that case, we have nothing to lose?

Merry Christmas Kopites!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Have a great Christmas Craig and good luck on Boxing Day.}

Myself I would stick with the same team we started the last two games with. With the possibility of Toure partnering Sakho. I want to keep Suarez as captain for these games.

Agree0 Disagree0

Merry xmas craigLFC :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't start flanno or Skrtel. City will press high up, and with skrtel we will sit far too deep on the edge of our area an ask or trouble. Flanno has been turned inside out by truly great ball playing opposition and speed eg cazorla, mirallas and gibbs. Against City I would play Johnson left back and him right back, I'd prefer Johnson vs silva or navas to negate them, and think flanno would ffind nasri much easier to handle, as he only turns up for 1 in 7 games.

I think we need 2 ball playing centre halves who can read a game So i'd go with Agger and Sakho(maybe toure) skrtel has proved to struggle vs city's high pressure.

The midfield and attack picks itself pretty much. There's no point in playing a counter attack vs city, we'll hand them too much possession and invite and attack. We must try and keep around 45% possession to stop them hammering us at home.

Agree0 Disagree0

Defo same starting 11 if flanno is ok imo. Play our own game and let the best team win

Agree0 Disagree0

Same team and set up as spur's game, watching motd we will have a lot of joy if we can target Demechelis one on one with suarez. Yes there midfield is big and powerful but so were spurs. And I noticed they don't really chase back if they loose the ball, Henderson and Allen could find a lot of space on the counter.

Merry Christmas to all the Ed's and the brilliant poster's.

do you think there`s a place in starting 11 for Xabi Alonso as rumours about his return come now and then.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - you can always find a place for a truly world class player, and he is truly world class, the best in his position in the world. But he won't be coming back any time soon, unless he forced out by Madrid, who have built their midfield around him.}

If we can take 4 points from the next 2 fixtures (1 from City and 3 at Chelsea) then we really will be moving in the right direction!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Dec 2013 10:04:25
We need to attack city like we did against spurs, we have a very good record against both teams you mentioned, city are vulnerable at back, especially with Suarez we should take full advantage of it.

Chelsea are all over the place at this moment, can't defend neither score, were very lucky to survive against Arsenal, 3 points should be must against them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Kop, we need to attack City but with an air of caution, they have the players to hurt any team on the break. They have an average of just under 4 goals a game at home.

For me we need to press and not give Silva and Toure time and space on the ball - stop the supply to the front men.

Chelsea will have to attack at home, not like last night. I really think we can go to the Bridge and get a result.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you go for it you could do them, if you try and contain them? Good luck with that.
Going there is the toughest test of all, pass that and your in real business.
I should hope for a draw but really hope you win it.
I expect a better game than last night :-)
Mind you Crewe v Northampton would be hard pushed not to be better to watch that that :-) :-) :-)

Yup mate, we need to press them & hunger to get the ball back, soton did that & city looked very average, between I don't expect us to keep a clean rubbish lol!

Ino Chelsea will attack & that will make easier for us, as I said they have very little options to hurt opposition neither can defend, very good time to play them!

I'm eagerly anticipating the return to fitness of Sturridge and Gerrard to see how Rogers handles the situation. If were still winning and playing well does he keep the revered club and country captain on the bench or does he bow to Gerrards reputation and play him as soon as he's fit? Will this curtail Henderson? Does he sacrifice Sturridge for Sterling and break up a new SAS partnership which is starting to bear fruit? Or will there be a third SAS partnership that takes the Premiership by storm Salah and Suarez? Salah and Sturridge perhaps? What wonderful problems to have for Rogers and what a lovely change for us to be challenging for the title at Xmas usually we'd have lost it by now! Seasons Greetings to everyone and a special thankyou to the Ed's for your insider knowledge and herculean efforts at times.

Hi let me start by wishing you and your love ones a happy Xmas and thank you for all your hard work. I've just one question is it really that simple for Suarez to leave us in the summer if we don't make top four?.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Dec 2013 02:23:45
Feeling excited and extremely happy to see Liverpool sit at top of the Table now. Its almost the same feeling as in 2008-09 Season.

I hope the past mistakes are not repeated.

That season we lacked a Good, decent Striker and it had cost us Heavily. We had a great defensive midfield the Strongest in the premier league.

I hope this January 2014 Liverpool make 1-2 marquee signings and try and target the Title so that even if we fail to get the Title we will still be somewhere near it.

I hope one of these players could be our marquee signings which would help score goals and reduce the goal scoring burden of SAS and yes the most important one should be a Defensive midfield.

Xabi Alonso

Hulk
Alex Teixeira
Nicolas Gaitan
Andriy Yarmolenko
Yevhen Konoplyanka

I would also like to see if João Carlos Teixeira could get a run in 1st team in FA cup.

All the best wishes for New year and Happy Holidays guys.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Brendan Rodgers and the team have worked really hard all year and they deserve all the plaudits for our league position.

Lets hope the team don't get too carried away over xmas. We need to remain focused for boxing day!

Have to say, up until today I felt no Christmas spirit whatsoever, but finding out we will be top at Christmas really has given me the festive cheer! Couple of things I want to say lads:

1. I know we are top at Christmas and I hate to dampen the mood, but if we lose to City and Chelsea, we could be as low as joint 6th. Now obviously I don't expect that to happen, as I think we can nick a draw against City and hopefully beat Chelsea if we turn up on the day, not to mention the fact other results have to go against us. Just saying that it is scary the fact there is only 2 points separating us and Everton in 5th.

2. I have to lighten the mood after the first point and although I'm a tiny bit worried about the prospect of slipping a little, I'm also unbelievably excited about the potential of this team. Henderson, Flanagan, Allen, Sterling, Sakho and even the small contributions from Alberto, all show this is a club with a great present and a glorious future to go with it. Not to mention the fact we still have Gerrard and Sturridge to come back, and hopefully one or two top young players (like Salah) in January, and you have to say we are well set up for the second half of the season. I seen a stat on tv that said in 08/09 we were top at Christmas and only finished second. Bloody hell would I take that now!

3. So even though the next two games are crucial in our season, we still have a lot to look forward to for the future.

Finally, I'd like to take the time now to wish the Ed's and the Reds family, a very safe and happy Christmas (and no more rumours about Luis Suarez!). Cheers lads!

So what if we lose our next 2 games. The maximum we could be off the top at the half way point in the season is 6 points.
That's a significant improvement and our squad will get better. Don't forget we are where we are without Suarez for first 5 games and without Sturridge for last few.
However, we could be 6 points clear by the half way point in the season. City look strong at home but they have also lost at Villa and Cardiff. We can take them and Chelsea, we are good enough.

Also we will have played Everton, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City away! In other words all the other top clubs (and it gives me great joy to exclude Man U) have to come to Anfield
