Good evening Eds and reds,

I wanted to give my two pennies on the Lavia and Caceido situations.

With Lavia the kid isn't worth 50 million and less than the 40 odd million we bid first. I'm happy that we didn't sign him because paying 50 million for a CDM that hasn't even become a proper CDM is nonsensical for us right now.

With Caceido it is very similar. The lad form Colombia isn't worth 111 million but with CDMs that can actually make a difference and start for us being a commodity right now in the window, this transfer does make sense.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing a stop gap this season because a long term CDM will not solve our vulnerability at the back. I think Amramabat would be ideal as a stop gap for 1 maybe 2 seasons and then he can become a fantastic squad player once we actually sign a world beating CDM.

If I had the choice and final say in transfer at Liverpool, good thing I don't, I would rather spend most the Lavia money on Amrabat. In the transfer window next summer, there will be a whole host of players who are currently an unknown quantity right now that will be on the radar. I reckon the only name that stayed from last summer's interest was Bellingham. Who would have thought last summer we would have been bidding 111 million for some columbian lad or bidding 50 million for some youth player from Man City.

Heck even Alexis Mac Allister wasn't a household name last summer. Nobody had heard of Mitoma, Julian Alvarez was a random player from Argentina and KK from Napoli was a Georgian kid with a difficult name to pronounce.

New players and better player emerge every season, it is the natural cycle of football. Therefore a real stop gap, not the Arthur type, would be good for us.

Anybody with a counter on this debate, you are more than welcome to open my eyes.

YNWA.

I'm sure we could try palace with 60m bid for dacoure (spelling) and if they except use the rest of the caicedo money for a lcb.

I would like to see us sign Adams from Leeds but I am reading Chelsea are backing out because of his medical. He’s not a player with a horrible injury history but I read he’s expected out maybe another 3 months instead of a few more weeks. And ed002 has said no interest. But he’s a proper DM. A leader. despite the accolades the US team gets right now, most of them going to pulisic and balogun, Adams was the heart of the team.

Caicedo is from Ecuador if it makes any difference to you.

Stop gap signing I've never worked for Klopp. I could list a load of names but I'm sure you know who i mean. Lavia is 2 years younger than Caceido but isn't that far off his level. Unless we have scouted others properly then we'll have to bid more for him. Add a centre half as well and we'll compete.

Amrabat will not happen. There are plenty of DMs still around though.

60m for Dacoure in this summers over inflated market seems like very good business.

Newcastle looking half decent against Villa. I hope we have our Adam sorted by then!

Part of our vulnerability at the back is due to the lack of protection in midfield. Last season Fabinho and Hendo were off the pace leaving defence exposed and in pre season we’ve not had a true CDM in place.
I’m all for identifying a lesser known player rather than letting other teams make huge profits on them, but we’ve been very poor at this.
Lavia seems very highly rated and I think just match Chelsea offer to get him in if he’s the clubs choice, unless they go back to Thuram. I don’t think we can afford a stop gap. Koopermieners seems a good option, but probably not on the radar.

Caicedo is a top player. I honestly see little risk with him. He will be great but the money was huge.

Lavia to my eye will be a great player but there's risk. I know it's an inflated market but I think the price Chelsea are paying is too high.

I genuinely don't know anything about finances. All I know is that Chelsea were in trouble with FFP last year which I understood their sales helped resolved and now look like spending a tonne again. I doubt they are stupid and I'm sure there's a plan but I'm assuming Chelsea will calm down in the market over the next few windows. It doesn't seem sustainable to me to spend at this level for much longer.

For a starter Caicedo is twice the player Rice is who went for £105 mill. He is a bloody brilliant player.

A stop gap this year will cost us champions league football again the longer you are out the harder it is to get back in.
We needed 2/ 3 more in quickly.

I’d be more tempted to make Trent our proper DM (not a hybrid RB/ DM, full on DM)
Use some of our mega millions to fund a new proper right back as well, the best we can get.
Go back to playing 4-3-3.
Then the DM conundrum is solved for free, the Robbo conundrum is solved for free as well.
Then sell Matip and Phillips and upgrade by bringing in a left footed CB.
And a versatile midfielder who can cover DM.
Then just pick up the title in May or late April ??
I wouldn’t be spending that kind of money on Caicedo, I think the lads got talent and he’s got chemistry with Macca already, so he would be a good signing if he actually wanted to join us and prioritise football rather than the bright lights of London’s nightclubs.
That kind of money could be used on a Right back, centre back and a versatile midfielder and we would be much better off for it.

Is he though? know its over simplifying but can't get my head around calling Rice nd Caicedo brilliant. To me they are players who try win and get the ball to the ACTUAL brilliant players. Know Jones is as far as the percieved No.6 as you can get but as long as he presses nd passes as usual on Sunday i'll be happy.

Amrabat is one dimensional…. let him go to Man Utd.
Not one for LFC.

Jaysus, Caicedo must have learnt a lot in them extra SIXTEEN Premier League games than Lavia MCR.

@TJRed I agree about Adam’s. Would love to see him come over. For £20m would mit he least offer squad depth and as you mentioned he’s a leader, he also appears to be a genuinely nice guy as well. That said he’s also a wind up up merchant and he has no problem getting stuck in. That’s something we could definitely use in the team.
