One for Ed001. Have you done a player profile on Joe Gomez recently?

I'm very pleased with how he is developing as a CB and learning from big Virg. However, I remember he had a couple of shaky moments at RB last season, especially with balls coming in over his shoulder. You mentioned at the time that its all part of the footballing education, but I'd really appreciate your views on whether he has managed to eradicate that fom his game.

The context, for me, is that a lot of posters are pushing for Gomez to cover the RB slot whilst Trent is injured, whereas I'm a little uncertain of that for 2 reasons. Firstly, my concern as above on the positional issues potentially arising again, and secondly he has developed such a great partnership with Virg and I would rather re-establish that partnership when he is fit again than have a sub-optimal partnership in the middle just to be able to shift him out to the right.

I agree - play him CB and let Milner or Fabinho cover at RB who are arguably just as good there if not better. By comparison at CB, he is excellent and gives us pace, passing ability, and makes less mistakes than either Lovren or Matip.

But the Fabinho has been so good in the two man midfield. Its not an easy decision.

Agreed. Although, we won a number of games this season when Fab wasn’t in midfield. In fact, we won when he was on the bench.
