He's one to take our minds off the match last night. But of fun really. Does anyone have any misguided beliefs about football players, managers, teams etc that are fairly ridiculous that no one has ever ever agreed with and despite you knowing the truth, your mind just can't be changed, come on, all of us do. eg- Ramos is a fantastic player with a bad rep. Come on folks, own up and open yourselves to criticisms. Would love to hear any Ed's takes as well. Ugh I'll go first and here's hoping, this isn't a useless one post post. No matter what anyone says, Zidane is the greatest player to ever play the game. EVER. I'm sorry, I grew up with maradonna and watched pele but nobody blew we away like what that lad did with the ball. It doesn't matter that he was a lunatic, it doesn't matter that he missed most of France 98- he still singlehandedly won the World Cup and everything for Real Madrid after. (I could be wrong)

Zidane is NO Maradona. In fact, Zidane's idol is Enzo Francescoli (Uruguayan legend) who played at OM (Zidane's hometown team) and even he was not a patch on Maradona. Maradona won a WC with unknown players whikle Zidane won a WC with players like Marcel Desailly, Patrick Vieira, Youri Djorkaeff, Rob Pires Laurent Blanc etc.

You also talk about Zidane winning it all with RM. Maradona is the reason you even know where Napoli is on the Italian map. It's not even close BUT love the debate.

Zidane wasn’t even the best player of his generation. That accolade goes to the real Ronaldo. Zidane vs Maradona? Are you kidding me? Maradona won a World Cup and two league titles with average teams around him. When did Zidane ever do that?

You guys make excellent points, I’m not debating that everyone is right and I am completely wrong. I just worshipped that guy as a player and can’t see pst the emotion of France 98. You can hit all the accurate facts at me and I’ll be like “yep, still think he’s the greatest though”. My hope is for other posters here to throw their own misguided beliefs into the fray.

Spot on, Swisch. You should hear what Zidane himself, has to say about Big Ron, himself. When Clarence Seedorf (who played with Ronaldo at Inter and AC Milan) is telling you that Big Ron is the best player he had ever seen in his illustrious career, then you know what's up.
