Klopp rates Keita highly, hence the prolonged interest in him, so strengthening CM is something of a priority for Klopp. But now with the deal looking unlikely for this window one would think that when the release clause is activated next season we would go back in for him, but for the time being is there short term alternative that we are looking at? Like a McAllister type, or even a loan deal?

I think most people would rather we gave Grujic or Ejaria a chance rather than a short term fix.

I don't think CM is a priority, I think we have gone for Keita as Klopp thinks he is a world class player that was maybe within our reach.
I think (and hope) if we fail to land him we won't go for a second rate alternative.

I don't think the team selection comes down to most people. The players that come in and leave will be down to 1 man Klopp and the owners budget.

I don't believe the release clause affects us. I think ed002 said it was for German clubs only. If this is the case, do you believe RBL will want to do business with us next summer after how we've unsettled Kieta this window?

Try to take Renato Sanches on loan for the season.

I'm pretty positive Ed02 said the release clause is only for teams in Germany¿.

I think CM is a problem and 1 that needs a player like Keita who has the energy and class to get around midfield breaking up play and starting attacks.
Say we play Salah, Firmino and Mane, all agree that Klopp will go for as our front 3.That leaves us for Midfield Coutinho Gini Lalana Can Henderson Grujic. It would be fair to say that all six players prefer to play as a number 10 or number 8.Hendo is the only 1 who is disciplined or consistent enough to play the 6 role the way Klopp wants it played.
But can anyone, considering the last 2 seasons hendo has had, be happy to rely on him staying fit. Lucas and Stewart have both departed and both not trusted or considered quick enough to get around the midfield.
Can and Gini have been given the role in our Captains absence but neither showed discipline in the position. Milner? not over the full season.
So in my opinion we still need a player like Keita.

Surely if a "rival"team from Germany is offering the release clause and we offer the same amount, Liepzig would rather he left Germany?

Big emre, you really believe that how we have acted this window? If I were RBL I'd sell to anyone other than Liverpool.

The CM position is a problem cos due to the way we play, we need a Kante or Keita type player who can press, harrass, defend and create, all in one go. Ed01 alluded to this a while ago. We are not set up to defend with just the back 5. Our system requires us to defend as a team as soon as we lose the ball as Klopp sees defending as a team effort, not individual. Look at Chelsea and City.

I would not want any of their CB's are they are utter tosh individually. But Chelsea have gotten a poor CB in Cahill, a showboat like Luiz and a very good FB like Azpi to play together due to the system they play. That is what we need to do. VVD will not solve this conundrum. We can bring in Paulo Maldini but if our midfield can't have a Keita or Kante type player in it, we will struggle.
