You get into the top places by grinding out wins from draws, going to places with good footballing sides that are known as tough to beat.

We just did this. Great three points, great turnaround from last game. Exactly what was wanted, asked for and required.

Thought throughout even when the draw was looking likely that we looked like a good side. We looked very together and was impressed by the movement and that there was always someone to pass to. Very well organised and solid debuts from all.

Gomez at 18 first prem game against Stoke away and he was targeted, up against Walters who has on his day destroyed full backs, did fantastic. Also impressed with Clyne, Milner and Benteke all played well. Firmino showed some def touches and good movement.

Cannot see any problems with today, our defence communicated and kept a clean sheet, Mignolet did everything expected, caught the only cross he could have, saved the only attempt on target, his distribution found targets and stayed on the pitch. We were solid and pressed well, had a good change from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 without drama. Rodgers gave a decent aftermatch chat.

Great start.

I don't know which game where you watching. Either let's be honest or just celebrate the three points.

Our starting eleven messed up with two attack minded player asked to hold the line with one playing the deep playmaker role restricting ourself with nothing going forward.

Can / Lucas should have started the game, we would have had done the job in the first half itself.

Countinho was about to come off for Ings.

Our players sticked to the plan of playing cautious and not doing anything silly.

Stoke couldn't score because they don't have that excellent firepower upfront.

It BR continues with Hendo - Milner in the holding role then we are going to face some serious problem in the next match.

3 points is a good way to kick the season. Nothing more.
Not being negative, honest observation.

Great post mate, my thoughts exactly, also thought Lovren had a good game surprisingly.

We got 3 points and that is the most important. A solid back line, no pushing full backs up and splitting Centre Backs. It looks like Gary & Sean have done the business. Well done lads Come on you reds.

Game changed when can came on . Henderson is never a holding deep type . He's best pressing on and going on runs . It didn't need him and Milner to be lying deep . After all was glen whelan and Adam they were up against . But 3 points is great but please no more Milner n Henderson behind the play

I know v won da game, satisfied with 3 point, am not expecting Liverpool to demolished teams by scoring 3 to 4 goal every match but I certainly agree with European glory dat we need to play a DM in Lucas or emre to make us more solid in midfield n protect the CB because milner n Henderson r more attacking minded. I won't mind us winning 1 nil rather than 3-2 if we look defensively more solid than attacking.

E.G. why not be a lot more positive , Stoke battered us 6 1 in our last league game , we had four players making their debut , one an 18 year old , playing out of position , Stoke were niggling us with pushes , shoves and leaving their foot in , walters getting Gomez booked , we score an amazing goal , take all three points , every true Liverpool supporter is really pleased with the result , yes we have a bit of work to do , such as starting with Chan , who gives us so more , but what a massive three points , giving us a a great start , and it was five players who made their debut today , so its happy days .

Just checked the result. 1-0 To us is an improvement on our last league game!
Sounds like we have learnt something today aswell. Henderson/Milner not working. I hope Can gets more game time.

Good grief EG. The mission today was to be sold at the back and try to nick it.

Mission accomplished.

For me this is a good sign. We are being disciplined and structured rather than going about it Keegan style.

An away win against a team I think may well finish 6th this year. Those are good solid points today.

Can we improve? Well, yes. That's kind of how things are after one game.

Onwards and inwards. We go again .

Red

I ram really pleased with the results and join the celebrations. I just had a very sincere observation on the game. Things where we need to improve and where we stood out.
We have players, the real problem is fitting them well.

EG and 5ive are spot on with their posts. I made the exact observations they made. Hendo and Milner holding is a disaster waiting to happen and we were aweful until Can came on which unleashed Hendo and Milner on the opposition and Stoke couldn't get out of their own half. I'll take the win BUT BR must learn from this ASAP.
