Just wondering EDs if you feel we need an out and out number 9 to be signed; and if you do, do you think we will sign one?

There's a few bits in the Portugal press of us being interested in Darwin Nunez. Hard to know if it's agents trying to push Utd into making a move or it's just smoke. I thought he was excellent against us, in both legs, and possibly showed us what we are missing in terms of our attacking options.

What I meant was do you feel we are short an out and out 9 upfront to maximise our chances created.

{Ed001's Note - if the 9 is Lewandowski, then yes. But if he is Jota or Haaland, then no. What we are short of is players with the composure to not hit every shot right at the keeper, but that includes the whole team (except Alisson who has shown he can place a header) not just an out-and-out striker. It would be a step forward to have the right one, but it has to be the right one, not just anyone. We saw having Jota up front that, when he was scoring we were fine, but the moment he is not then he becomes a liability because his link up play is abysmal. However just him scoring did not solve all the problem and we were not getting better results with just him there adding goals. We need to look to work on finishing for the entire team.}

Ed couldn't agree more about the shooting. That's the only thing I rated Sturridge for, post Suarez, was how he could hit a dead ball effortlessly and it would lash the net.

Agree wholeheartedly w/ Ed001 on this.

We need to improve our finishing as a team, not just buy a single player to score goals. It is what has "cost us" the quadruple this year, in my view. We create a boatload of changes every game and need to get better at putting them in the back of the net. I realise it's a funny thing to say when we've scored the number of goals we have but I think we score a lot in bursts when everything is clicking and then struggle as we did in the 3 finals.

Fowler's timing of hitting the ball was impressive. He could generate some power in a shot for someone of his size and without thrashing at the ball. It's all about timing.
I remember a goal he scored from distance with hardly any back lift against Villa years ago.
And the one against Schmeichel into the roof of the net at OT. Schmeichel didn't even see it.

Got to say a quality predatory nos 9 could be a good option, two or three times Dias skinned RMs RB got to the by-line and there was no one even close to the 6yd box, turn back recycle, so frustrating.

Fowler could score every type of goal imaginable! he also took a mean free- kick!

One of my all time favorite players- i only wish we could have seen what would have happened if he remained injury free and did not come up against Owen's ego.

Put it this way when fowler was through on goal you never ever thought he was going to miss.

Great response, ED01. I don't just want anyone coming here as a striker either. We need to get the right one who fits what we do. We are not City who can sign a 100m squad player and not lose sleep over it. We need to be a lot more clever and meticulous about how we go about getting the forward/ striker we need.
