Don't think matip looked at full fitness personally so doubt he will start first game I think it will be Joe's shirt to lose at the start of the season.

Matip starting over Gomez makes no sense, IMO. Matip has just returned to training. Gomez has partnered VVD in all the preseason games before Blackpool.

He has way more football in his legs than Matip who btw, played his first game for LFC in months vs Blackpool so how he can leapfrog Gomez who has been playing football consistently, boggles the mind.

It's because he is head and shoulders above Gomez as a player, a 60-70% fit Matip is still better than Gomez, I honestly fail to see what people see in him, not good enough for me and I think he has a lot of mistakes in him. If it wasn't for playing alongside Van Dijk, I think he would be no where near our first team.
