the mid field of Gina, he do, and can is pedantic, predictable, no flare. The defence is awful, we knew this, same players as last season. if we sign VVD we at least have a player who will attempt to get his head to the ball at corners, but he will not sort all the problems, this is what worries me most and I think I can be forgiven for thinking our defensive coaching is not good and who ever oversees it is tactically nieve and needs replacing.

Ridiculous observation. That same midfield with no flair that flicked the ball through on a one-two for Mane's goal? Henderson who often looked to bring TAA and Moreno forward to open up their organised defense?
Gini was superb last season, a real box to box midfielder.
Yes, they need some work defensively but it was our first game.
Our defense in general I do agree with, we simply need to look at our defensive set up and start over.

well said Andy. seems to me too many slagging him off. Last night you could pick most the team as being weak, but Gini for me has been a really solid, if not magical player.
He looks like he wants to be part of this team, scored, tries hard to make things happen. He is not the most dynamic player but does a good job.

Early days but if Klopp does not address the key issues then we are in for a very disappointing season. To begin with he needs to start with a proper striker. This is PL not German or Spanish leagues, even the bottom side has the ability to score a goal or two, so you can't afford to miss so many chances. If he can't buy anyone, put Solanke in. Midfield engine of Hendo, Can and Gini is very weak. I know eds would slaughter me for this but Hendo has no quality and Can only has quality for 5-10 minutes a game. Only Gini out of those three should remain in the starting 11. Defense with Moreno and Lovern is a disaster bigger than titanic. TAA is definitely not ready and Clyne is mediocre at best. We needed to buy Ox and put him at right/ wing back (ala Valencia at Man U), put 3 CBs and Robertson at left/ wing back.

IMO, I love gini in our squad, but feel a midfield of Gini, Hendo and Can won't get us to the next level. and i'm not basing that opinion on yesterdays game alone. Gini off the bench I can see, Can I could see being sold and I know he's our captain, i've just never been a big Hendo fan. Still hope he does well, I personally would just rather see someone else in a holding role. Krychowiak might not be a bad option, Vidal is one of my fabvorites and although time isn't on his side, might be the leadership and credibility we need in mid. Thoughts?

OP, you cannot on one hand say we were not creative in midfield whereas on the other hand, we created 7 clear chances, hit the bar and scored 3 goals and could have scored 5 easily. If that shows a lack of creativity then you should be excited at what we can do when we become really creative. I do agree with you that the Hendo-Gini-Can trident look too similar individually. I would put Grujic in place of Gini, Hendo or Can as he is very diff. to all those players, a true B2B CM with goals in his locker. Gini has goals too but not like Grujic. Worth a try, IMO.
