What's the significance of a player formally putting forward a transfer request? Sorry for the naivety!
I don't understand why Liverpool insist that he puts in a request unless it is to highlight that it is the player who wants to leave or a player relinquishing on any financial incentive etc. {Ed002's Note - A player requesing a transfer waives the right to 5% of the transfer fee that would otherwise be paid.}
