I, m a little bit worried that had we gone out more aggressive from the get go we might have got mauled, i thing the Genius that is RH played an entire team of holding midfielders to start with just to wear them down and it seems like it worked, i bet Henrys mrs was wet through listening to the athem lol

Thought Shelvey was cr*p. Lot of running but got nowhere. Poor anticipation, very flat footed. Never seemed to see when someone was going to pass to him. Didn't start running until after the ball was played. . and as for his shooting. Nope, back to the reserves for a long time

does that include him taking on the three defenders and setting gerrard up for the equaliser??
Are you a manc {ed's note - a defender played it back to set up Gerrard for the equaliser mate.}

The only reason he set up GERRARD for the equaliser was that he ran out of space and decided to kick it anywhere and then a defender decided to help out. You must have the rose tinted glasses on tonight?

Listen pal ive been wearing rose tinted glasses for the last 20 years mate, i see somthing special in shevley, hes propably got more about him than gerrard had at that age, and yo want to abuse him for being played out of position, if it wasnt for him we wouldn't of scored we would of lost, he 18? ?
give em a chance give em a chance when he does you rip them when he doesn't you rip him, 3-1 enjoy it. {ed's note - I agree Shelvey has got that something that should make him a star of the future. I think he was a fantastic signing, especially at the price we got him for.}

I think roy set the team out to play an up tempo game to be honest but they just did'nt do it . . . . i dunno if anyone else it but just after gerrard came on and started to up the temp roy turned to sammy and looked like he said why do they start doing it now stevie' on! look he's not going anywhere so just keep the faith in the team! well done jonjo and jay jay. . . . .sleeper10

04 Nov 2010 23:33:49

Roy needs to go not good enough or he needs to play attacking. This is not Fulham a tie is not ok. This is LFC we want goals. Torres is by himself up top, no wonder he doesn't score, 2 goals is good for a guy taking on 4 defenders all game. we should play a 352. Get a real second striker and play Ngog and Pacheco.

Roy's tactics will not come good. They are upsetting the players and more importantly the fans.

He has used the same tactics at numerous clubs. So he is not going to change them. So tell me please when will Roy come good?

PS. F*ck off Roy!

04 Nov 2010 23:31:01

Hopefully the players will be up for Sunday regardless of the managerial situation.

Hope we play our best, and then it'll give us, the fans, and Henry an indication of how far we are behind the top team in the country.

Looking at our strongest XI now, I'd say we're 3-4 players short.

In the system with one striker and 3 CMs we're about 4 players short. A LB, two CMs and a winger. Merieles hasn't done it for me yet, although I'm prepared to give him a season.

In a 4-4-2, we're about 4 short also. A LB, winger, CM and striker.

04 Nov 2010 23:29:41

Make no mistake tonight, we were shocking. . .the home team and again we play one up top. . .Raul Merieles is a lot of things but IMO he cannot support the striker. . he drifted into a deep midfield role too often. . can't blame him as midfield is his natural position. . Jonjo looked nervous but the game will stand to him, why Dani Pacheco did not start off Ngog tonight, only or clueless manager will know. . in the first half we were completely shapeless. . . Poulsen, Jay, Jova and Jonjo were all over the place and were just happy to boot it anywhere. . . we lack width and have done so for years and why we continue with this is beyond me, when we had Xabi maybe we didn't need width so much because of his ability to pick a pass, but Xabi unfortunately is long since gone. . Woy is just continuing where Rafa left off in the end, playing 4 CM's in the middle of the park. . . . we will win nothing with this. . we are starving our strikers and are potentially destroying their careers (confidence wise) to boot. Balazs Dzsudzsak of PSV (LW) and Matt Jarvis of Wolves (RM) are young up and coming talents who hug the line, are blessed with pace and link with the striker. . . Affaley and after tonight Lavezzi should also be considered. if JW Henry and his missus saw anything tonight with his limited knowledge of soccer he could see that Woy is in way way over his head. . . . Stevie was awesome again for s when he came on, but we cannot rely on him to bail us out for 38 league games and a run of cup matches. . . Damien Comolli is hopefully the start of the shake-up. . . Woy you may have won 3 on the spin but you're fooling nobody with your negative watching paint-dry football

Just watched ssn and hodgson is on his high horse:

" I am sick of people doubting my coaching ability, after tonights performance i think i have done enough to justify myself as manager of Liverpool Football Club. . . . . "

He is talking like he won the champions leage final! Get real Roy, the performance was poor. Say that after the Chelsea game. . I DARE YOU! !

Do we believe Roy or Not?

You know something im really starting to get pissed off with all the anti RH bollox, i will agree he wasnt my first choice either, but i didn't see a massive line of people lining up to take the job either.
So the man walks into a team in termoil, is gerrard going is torres going is mascherano going, only his 3 best players, he knows mach is gonna go so he brings in a Defensive midfielder in poulson 4 million short term as lucas was going to stoke until he pulled the plug about 6 hours befoe the of the transfer window, riera and aqua he should never of let go, but he's here now deal with it, come jan he will get a striker and 2 wingers nesv are not here to piss about belive there is going to be some silly money thrown at it to start with, all im saying is give the man a chance, it would be a complety different story if he still had alonso, crouch, bellamy, riera blame rafa, aqua blame rafa and another striker apart from torres.
you can only work with what youve got and poulson for 4 mill and 3 for konchesky is nawt, there just filling the gaps, mirelles is goona be the business im tellin ya Roy is going nowhere
PS henrys bird is nuff fit

Last time we went to a french club to pillage there youth talent we got. Le tallec. pongolle. Cheyrou. not the time to buy untried youth with our track record. .

04 Nov 2010 23:13:57
At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, why does Woy insist on playing decent players out of position?
what must it do to their confidence, especially the younger ones?
If it carries on, expect Reina to take any corners against Chelsea. The man is a football dyslexic.

"Leave roy alone you idiots. Remember at the beginning of july you hailed his appointment after rafa was shown the door none of you could coach the team as your too busy on this site. have faith in Roy i know his tactics were a little defensive but he will come good"

I think you should take a reality check .
when will they come good at the end of the season?
And its not just his tactics ?its everything from licking fergie bum to talking about his players as expensive flip flops in a time when they most need confidence boost? he thinks he is still at Blackburn or Fulham, calling a narrow/ lucky win against Bolton as a famous victory, thinking that a point against Everton would have been good result.
And then his incoming and outgoing , can you really justify spending 4m on Poulsen, can you justify putting Aurelio back on the pay roll and giving insua away for thing, and then send aquilani where he is not coming back and spend 10m on a very similar player who in all honesty not that good (he was our second worse player today behind Poulsen)
And by the way not all of us were happy with Roys appointment, back in July when I first posted , Roy is a good man, but not good enough to manage our team.
Roy {ed's note - I can back that up that you were unhappy at the time.}

To REDALLOVER

It's idiots like you that are one of the reasons were in such a state. I can see you in your colours cheering on poulsen. konchesky. ngog. lucas. Saying " just get behind them" IDIOT

04 Nov 2010 23:10:05

I posted before blackburn game that i hope we would lose so to put more pressure on roy as i feared a string of lucky results would lead to roy staying and wasting more money in jan on s* te players and the editor said i was a disgrace to hope my team would lose. so now where are we? if we win or even draw with chelsea it will be seen as a great result and that roy has turned it around. how long are we going to have to put up with s* te football before something is done? if roy stays and gets a top 6 finish is it seen as a step in the right direction and is he then given another season? ed what do you think? {ed's note - I still don't want us to lose, no matter what. But I really can't see anything in Roy's tactics or coaching that will take us forward long term.}

04 Nov 2010 23:09:53

Alright ed mc grumpy boots! We won 3-1 cheer up the wins are coming in. The state we found our club in should be happy. I'm not the type of fan who will bully the manager or say players suck because that's damn stupid ( apart from Poulsen god! ) however I was at anfield today and it was brilliant we just want to watch football and 3-1 summed up the last few performances gritty hard and getting the job done really well done everyone and well done Roy. Thanks for winning can't wait for Chelsea on Sunday got tickets for that too :) YWBA

I'm afraid two of the youngsters people keep asking for Shelvey and Spearing looked out of there depth. .so please stop going on about giving youth a chance cos we havent got anyone that will become a top premier league star. . . . Gerrard. carragher. Owen. .fowler. . this is the level we need to produce not amoo. ngog. .Shelvey. spearing. .blah. blah blah.

04 Nov 2010 23:01:05

Just heard off a homeless guy outside mcdonalds that his uncle is best mates with henrys cousin and he told him that that we will be signing the argentine who scored against us tonight ( he couldn remember his name) but yes he rekons its a done deal aswell as that ageuro too and all i had to give him for this info was 20p so he could get a big mac, he must of sold his story to at least 9 others tho cause i know big macs are at least £2, so some of you prob heard about this already. He did say that if i gave him enough for a hot chocolate he would tell me saturdays lotto numbers but what would i do with those! ! !

E.H LFC

Is this t* t having a laugh? Spearing was outstanding, Shelvey was forward thinking with work rate, it was a team that eventually out thought and out played a top Italian outfit. Your definitely a Manc or a Blue in disguise EH!

Gerrard was excellent and praised the manager for being bold, but so was The Greek, Pepe, Raul and a good few others. Get off the 'Get Roy Out Of The Club Brigade' bandwagon and start giving credit where its due and supporting the team. For those who do know their football I think a lot credit is going to be forthcoming to the 'fitness staff', second half Napoli just wilted all over the park. Signs are looking good, be warned! Patience is a virtue seldom seem in a woman and never seen in a 'knob-head'!

REDALLOVER {ed's note - I am sorry, but at which moment of the game did we outplay Napoli? We outscored them, but not once did we outplay them.}

Cmon liverpool fans give steven gerrard the credit and praise he deserves , there was more talk of gareth bale on here last night after he got two assists , than there is for stevie gerrard getting a hat trick tonight. member stevie g is a liverpool legend and gareth bale is a wannabe ( hes not a liverpool player and never will be , so lets not talk about the welsh monkey.)

"Yes, Lucas has played ok this season but I think Spearing offers more. For a start, Spearing is better and more composed in the tackle. Seen him come back and get stuck in and put in some good challenges, not afraid to get on the ground and get stuck in. And on the ball, he is a lot better. Lucas just passes sideways/ back and his passes are short and rigid and when he's in possession he does nothing but pass. Spearing gets the ball, drives forward with it, and makes very direct passes (a bit like Alonso did). Sometimes they don't get there, but at least the attacking intention is present. Also, he doesn't pass back unless it is essential.
Why not give Spearing a chance in some of the bigger games?"

What apart from his (spearing) heavy touches , and none of these very direct passes actually reached the intended target . I am not picking on him, he is decent and far better than Poulsen, but I think Lucas offers far more he just need some freedom, I actually think Lucas would done far better than Meireles did if he was given the same role this evening.

04 Nov 2010 22:52:31

Im hoping that after that performance from gerrard mr henry said to kk, so how much do these real soccer stars cost and KK replys at least 20-30 million, and how many do we need said mr henry, at least 5 replyed KK, YEEH HAAH replys mr henry go buy those mofos, probably not going to happen but boy did he cheer when we scored, you know he means business

04 Nov 2010 22:50:59

Roy was very fortunate tonight. At no time were Liverpool in control until Napoli tired. Very little quality posession in Napoli's half. Meireles is a quality central midfielder wasted out wide (as is Shelvey). Good result, but it doesn't tell half the story.

04 Nov 2010 22:50:44

Well done Roy Hodgson.

04 Nov 2010 22:47:54

Shelvey, amoo, ecclestone have got talent, but thay are not ready.Some have even mentioned Suso for the premiership. .16 yrs old come on think about it.

POULSEN IS RUBBISH!

04 Nov 2010 22:45:03

I liked the look of Jay Spearing tonight. He'll probably not be a superstar at this level but I'd prefer him in the team over Lucas.

Yes, Lucas has played ok this season but I think Spearing offers more. For a start, Spearing is better and more composed in the tackle. Seen him come back and get stuck in and put in some good challenges, not afraid to get on the ground and get stuck in. And on the ball, he is a lot better. 04 Nov 2010 22:44:30

Roy Hodgson will never go if he keeps getting lucky freak results like tonight. Why is he so defensive?

Also - Did you notice Broughton sat next to Henrys missus and texting John Terry at same time?

Why were they talking tactics or planning to spitroast her

04 Nov 2010 22:42:37

04 Nov 2010 22:40:50
Injury update. Torres has suffered a double blow tonight at anfield. First of all he has suffered a Nasty splinter in his backside at anfield and he has been overlooked for the starring role in the new invisible man film despite another no show in Roy hodgsons team selection. Better news for the anfield club though is hodgson's star player poulson was given a second half rest tonight so he will be fresh for Sundays clash with Chelsea.

04 Nov 2010 22:40:42

Calm down Ed, you are coming out with some crap latelly ;-)
We have won 3-1 cheer up ffs.

04 Nov 2010 22:40:16

Poulsen - rubbish!

04 Nov 2010 22:38:18

Ed, you don't even seem happy that we won, why not? {ed's note - I am glad we won, just disappointed with the way we performed.}

04 Nov 2010 22:37:03
I have to say it is incredulous beyond belief that Roy Hodgson picked a team with 5 central midfielders , 2 of them defensive midfielders and only 1 striker .

I don't think I ever seen a team with 5 central midfielders , and Roy was trying to counter attack .

It beggars belief !

Ed - Do you have any understanding of what that formation and selection was about ?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - {ed's note - it made no sense to me, not against a team like Napoli that leave acres of space on the flanks to attack.}

04 Nov 2010 22:35:42

Ed

Who would u have as our manager?

Wud it help if woy spent a few hours on the sunbed so he looks like a top European coach? At the moment the opposition team show up thinking woy is the anfield caretaker. . .how can we ever be taken seriously again?

S spiers {ed's note - I want an attacking coach who sends out the team to try and beat the opposition, not hope to defend for 90 mins. I am not going to say who I think as I feel like I have said it enough now!}

04 Nov 2010 22:35:28

As a previous poster remarked, I was sort of hoping we would get beat so Hodgson would be sacked! Also is it no surprise that Rafa was constantly linked with Lavezzi. I didn't realise he was that good until I saw this game. Anyway we should relegate Poulsen to the Under 15s team, he might even learn to head a ball. What a waste of money. Again Lucas was brilliant when he came on in support of Gerrard and the Greek lad (not going to even attempt to spell his name) has proved to be the bargain buy of the century. Let's get behind LFC lads we need all the luck in the world against Chelski.

04 Nov 2010 22:35:03

I think anyone can see that Lucas has improved vastly over the last 20-30 games. . he now looks comfortable in the middle of the park, his touch is better, his passing consistant and his tackling not as sloppy.

The reason I say all this is because Poulsen looks like Lucas did when he first got into the side. I'm finding it really hard to watch Poulsen, he made a few errors tonite even before his mistimed back header that led to Lavezzi's goal. . and tho my instinct is to say, "why is he playing?" Maybe what we need is to show a bit of patience and give Poulsen and players like Miereles and Jovanovic the time to bed into not only the side, but the EPL.

Likewise I thought Shelvey played well, tho slowed up towards the end. .looked knackered. .remember Gerrard wasnt a world beater straight away. .kids have gotta play and make mistakes. .in order to get better. .Shelvey looks really promising.

04 Nov 2010 22:32:18

Surely by the abysmal display shown in the first half, henry can now see we are in real need of a few wingers. 4 CMs started the game tonight shelvey, merieles, poulson and spearing. how can we win games when 4 players are taking up the same space? out of most peoples '5 who should be sold' krgiakos, jovanovic, konchesky, lucas and poulson, 3 were our best players tonight and 1 set up the goal that sent us into the lead. poulson was the only 1 of those 5 who did nothing. shocking tackle on ngog. just to mention. so mr henry, my christmas list is as follows:
frank rijkaard
gary cahill
taye taiwo
keisuke honda
milo krasic
darren bent
gerrard, i admit, will be chuffed with his hat trick, although looks like hes fed up having to pull us out of the cr@p by the scruff of the neck.
comolli, good signing for us. too often have we signed players with injury problems recently, so im hoping he sees things our current scouts have been overlooking
happy with the win, not so much with the performance

I fear Sunday will be a cricket score. Woy thinks he's beaten Napoli, Bolton and Blackburn with his p*ssy tactics. We'll go out on Sunday and will try to defend and cautiously counter - and that's the type of tactics Chelsea are built to destroy.

Anyway, Shelvey and Spearing did well tonight and another good performance from Lucas.

Woy should be gone by the 20th if we continue like tonight.

04 Nov 2010 22:30:48

Doesn't change a thing. .we were pathetic once again, it's getting that I am starting to hate Hodgson which I know isn't healthy. Hopefully Comolli will be speaking to Henry in order to fill in the gaps on tonight's performance.Please, please, please sack Hodgson.

ED you wrote:

{ed's note - that is the way Hodgson sets out his team to play and always has, fine as a stop gap during the takeover but he is never going to take us anywhere but mid-table mediocrity.}

Y u such a negative man? do you even ever go to Anfield or follow the Kopites on Away trips?

Give him credit where its due - could you set up LFC to do any better than tonight? Who would you play instead mr genius?

Please answer and back up your wild theory and opinion - lay off roy.

ANTONIO OSARIO * * * * * {ed's note - what the hell has going to games got to do with anything? I have pointed out many times that I started the site because I could no longer get to games, but I don't see the relevance. You think only people that can go to matches know anything about football? If so you are clearly wrong as I know lots of people that go to matches every week and know nothing about the game. Anyone could set up a team with width to exploit the huge gaps in the defence that Napoli left, if you even have to question that, well then it is not me in need of defending my opinion. I am negative because the performance was poor, we got a lucky win, it could so easily have been different because we were bereft of ideas and played players out of position yet again. How difficult is it to see that Napoli leave huge gaps behind their wing backs for a winger to exploit and then play Amoo on the right to get into that space? How difficult is it to see that Poulsen is a waste of space and not pick him ever again? I will lay off Roy when I see a manager sending out a team to win the match from the kick off, with width and ability, rather than trying to defend doggedly and hope to snatch a result.}

For everyone who wanted Shelvey to start in the premiership it has proved tonight he is far from ready.
What is the point of Poulsen?? ?? ? ?he has to go! !
For those who wanted to get rid of Garrard you fools.
weve won 3-1 and some are still not happy, thats poor.

Inter Milan boss Rafa Benitez hoping to shore up midfield with move for Liverpool's Lucas

Lucas if u need a lift mate il drive you to inter lad, anyone else agree, ?

- Have you actually watched any Liverpool games this season pal? Lucas has consistantly been the better of our players. He devleloping nicely into a great Midfielder, I suppose you were one of the numpties who boo'd him all last season? Watch this space. . Lucas will lighten up the Prem over the next few seasons.

I've got a season ticket for the paddock for the last 12 yrs and no is never boo a player, as much as he tries and he is good for Brazil, he won't make it physically in the epl, Italy would suit him, I think you have miss read my post meaning, I think it would be best all round for him to go, and we use the money from his sales trillionaire!

- Lucas comes on and sets up Gerrard! Won't make it physically in the EPL! Sort your head out. . .As I said in my above post, watch him turn it on this season.

To ed, do you think we can win against chelsea this weekend? i'm very worry about it. {ed's note - I really can't see us getting anything against them, they won't tire out and make sloppy mistakes.}

Have I honestly just read that a Liverpool fan " sort of hoped we'd lose " just to get rid of the manager - true if he stays we will not moved forward - but just as worrying is a fan not being bothered if we lost - fans never want their team to lose.

Another disgraceful performance with us being saved by gerrard. roy plaese just get the f* * out our club. at times we played wid 5 central midfielders, wtf? shevley and spearing didn't play well either, eccelston showed glimpses of skill. all i no is roy needs to go and take his boyfriend christian poulsen wid him.

believable - we win on against chelsea
unbelieveable - we lose?

REDALLOVER {ed's note - I am sorry, but at which moment of the game did we outplay Napoli? We outscored them, but not once did we outplay them.}

Roy hodgson could come on and score a hatrick and ya will all still get on his back last season ya asked for rafa to go hes gone and now we have woy, far enough we was terrible and still have to improve are game but were getting there 3 games won now on the bounce and your still moaning need to get off the managers back we got some excellent youth at are club and he slowly getting them involved surely that's a good thing have so faith will ya

In roy we trust

Well done to the young lad's Spearing, Shelvey and even Nathan I know he didn't see much off the ball, but goes to show ya with Stevie G around these young lad's they will shine add in torres and we cans save ourselves a few bob poulsen and janvanovic(spelling I've been drinking) should not start a head of these lad's, I said this afternoon Ed keep lucas we can swap around him and Jay for a midfeild position.Johson for midfield he cannot defend, with two decent wingers and another top drawer striker get rid of the deadwood and keep players that are prepared to battle for a starting position and we'll be a CL placed team this season and push forward next season to win the leauge and throw in a cup or two.
We just need a manager brave enough to bleed in the young lad's we have the players at the club with a few changes we will be the mighty Red's once again.
P.s How yer man wasn't sent of for the tackel on N'gog was a joke.

I reckon we should seriously think about signing lavessi from napoli over the games we've played them he's been a constant threat and he's been playing consistently in serie a. He reminds me abit of tevez and I think him and torres would b a really good strike force. What does every 1 else think?

Sorry, but another bad display. And Stevie is going to get only older. . My suggestion for thetransfer policy is to bring one expencive player (Honda, or Sanchez, or whoever) and 2 or 3 youngsters of Willson/ Shelvey calibre (forgive my spelling as I've had a few tonight) and just keep doing it for the next 3 seasons. Then we'll shape up.

Did somebody write on here the other day " get rid of stevie g and jamie there holding the club back "

Whoever you are you must feel so silly , as you can see he comes on as a second half sub and produces a hat trick to win us the game! people talk about gareth bale cause of two games against inter milan , stevie gerrard has been doing this his whole life , now give him the credit , if bale is worth 50m gerrard is worth £100m! i wrote on here the other day praising him to the hills but the ed didn't post it :( , i personally think hes the best midfielder of all time and im not just saying it cause i love liverpool.

Steven gerrard what a legend you really are ! {ed's note - I didn't see any post praising Gerrard that I left out mate, either it was someone else or you put something in that got filtered out by the spam filters.}

04 Nov 2010 21:46:28

Player ratings on tonight's performance Reina: Usual solid performance. Johnson Either play him on the wing or sell him. Konchesky not good enough, get rid of him. Kyrgiakos says a lot about us our best player over the last 3 games. Carragher I'm sorry to say Jamies best days are over squad player. Poulsen Not good enough get rid of him. Spearing needs a bit more time great heart. Meireles the more he plays the less I like him jury still out. Shelvey give him more games serious prospect. Jovanovic should have stayed on longer jury still out. Ngog improving all the time.

Subs: Hansen, Gerrard Mr Liverpool. Lucas improving all the time. Wilson, Kelly, Skrtel, Eccleston great prospect
Hodgson Hasn't got a clue get rid and quickly at that!

To quote "I think shelvey is crap tonight and if i have to be honest i don't rate him at all."

Gotta say that was a lovely steal by Shelvey for the Gerrard goal.

Ohhh Carra is too slow for fast-ish forwards, could see him giving away alot of peno's over the entire season

If Ngog gets injuried and with torres's record we a F*'ed

04 Nov 2010 21:39:55

Unbelievable - someone saying Shelvey is crap - he's 18, having a reasonable game - effort and skill on the ball - he probably thinks he should have gone off instead of Poulsen - what a joke - the lad is a future star.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
he was very lucky there for the goal. he was that bad he lost the ball when he should have played it through for stevie so the defender showed him how to do it. i have seen nothing so far this season 1st team or reserves that tells me he will be a future star. he would want to start showing something soon

Once upon a time a team called Tottenham bought a Left back called Bale, he was sh*te couldn't defend to save his life. Along came a new manager called Redknap and played him in Midfield and he ripped teams apart every game. . .and they all lived happily ever after. Then there was a team called Liverpool who bought a right back called Glen Johnson. He was sh*te and also couldn't defend and along came a new manager called Roy Hodgson and played him in. . . . the same f*ckin place Rafa did, and the moral of the story is, GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ARSE ROY AND P*SS OFF SOMEWHERE ELSE. . . .

04 Nov 2010 21:21:05

Roy's hailing everyone. .certain players, Comolli, NESV etc. .BUT WHO IS HAILING ROY!? ? NO BODY!
I'm getting sick as I first did when I heard of his signing. All my mates said it was good, but I was against it! Love Rafa (not all of his moves) but I GUARANTEE WE WOULDN'T BE IN THIS POSITION!

I ask Roy. .You're looking for a player with drive and guille in the market?? Hold on. .Don't you have Daniel Pacheco?. who is MIA because you probably just don't like him (eventhough LFC's Website says something of you rating him!). We have Napoli at home and Poulson (waste of money, space and all of the above) is playing!

Roy and Lee will be let go before X-mas and replaced with King Kenny! He will then bring in a Striker not in the mould of Torres (everyone is talking about Llorente, but he's the same type of striker!). We need a "support" striker in the mould of Tevez like Leandro Lopez, Loic Remy (would've been good), Lavezzi, Bryan Ruiz, Honda, Toivonen or hopefully Luis Suarez!
Let Ngog learn a bit or send him out on loan to a Prem team such as Blackburn, Bolton, WBA or a team with good wingers (as most teams in the league have better wingers than us!)
That brings us to wingers and a quality player to get Poulson out. I've heard of Kranjcar potentially available and that would be perfect. Then loaning out Lucas (who really doesn't find the empty spaces) should also be sold or loaned. Wingers such as David Bentley (he could revive his career here and he's not that bad of a player), Arda Turan, Juan Mata (who's not having much of a good season, but would be gladly welcomed by Torres/ Reina who's missed their good friend Riera). May be Elia as he's swift with his feet!. Afellay is another option.

The big let go will be Glen Johnson. He's has shown flashes of brilliance, but makes us all sick most of the time. I rate Arbeloa, Finnan and to be honest even Martin Kelly ahead of his heafty price tag!Johnson doesn't even do that good of a job playing RW as he tries to be Ronaldo and fails miserably (except when with England. .who doesn't pay his wages!). LB is also a concern and watching Mavinga play, Id rather have him than Konchesky. On a serious note we should bid for Taiwo or even bring back J.A.R.

Anyhow. As my disgusted rant comes to an end, Liverpool needs changes and with Roy it starts. Too bad Pelligrini is no longer available!

Cant rooney take ngog on one of his nights out, even he can't fail to score then can he.

04 Nov 2010 21:19:58
Are we really going to attract all of europes top players in January with a muppet in charge i think NOT! !
John Henry show your ruthless streak and FIRE this clown NOW! !

04 Nov 2010 21:17:10

What the hell is roy hodgson doing is he stupid. . does he think hes at fulham still, , , why on earth is he playing defensive again at home of all places, , , poulsen what the hell is he on for. . and then, then he goes and takes jovanovich off to put gerrard on yeah ok bring gerrard on but not for him u take poulsen off u idiota. .

04 Nov 2010 21:02:03
Ed, predictions for this game and against chelsea? Mine is 2-2 now and 0-6 against chelsea. Roy will get fired after that one, hopefully.
Red bl00ded. {ed's note - I can't see us doing anything but lose either, but surely we can't play this badly again, can we? This is worse than the Souness era!}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I honestly think he's worse than Souness ED. Roy is making a laughing stock of our great club (tactics and comments). Souness was just sh*t at the tactics bit.

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - I never thought I would see a worse player than Paul Stewart, but Poulsen is close.}

04 Nov 2010 21:16:21
The only time i want to see spearing on the telly is at christmas when he is doing his proper job alollipop kid in the wizard of oz.

04 Nov 2010 21:15:28

Now we got 5 cms playing, seriously i know its Stevie but still 5. why not Kelly for Poulsen and put Shelvey central and Johnson right wing, then Eccleston for Spearing on the left and Meireles more central with Shelvey.

First half we had a chance on a ball that Napoli didn't clear unfortunately neither Poulsen nor Spearing were in the huge hole just in front of the Napoli defense to take advantage. if Meireles, Shelvey or Stevie (even Lucas would have been more positive and in the gap) were in the center of midfield then hey we could have been 1-0 up.

04 Nov 2010 21:13:09

Time to get your coat Roy, what a miss by that choob ngog ffs. spearing looks 8 yrs old

04 Nov 2010 21:12:59

There is no way Roy should keep his job until Christmas based on this performance and the season so far!
Im not a believer of this 'our team is not good enough' excuse as player for player we are better than many teams who have outplayed us this season!
Napoli are a breathe of fresh air tonight, passing, moving and all comfortable on the ball with time and space.
We are too defensive and Roys tactics are not offensive enough
A better manager would be getting more out of our players at the moment, I have no doubt about that!
Hodgson has to go, I only hope John W Henry can see this!
Ed, what do you think?
NIRed {ed's note - I agree completely, our tactics are Blackburn style!}

04 Nov 2010 21:12:05

Wonder if Roy willthink we've played wll tonight. C@#T!

04 Nov 2010 21:12:05
Cant be this bad again? Ed, id bet you ZAR1000(thats about £110 i think) that we'll be this bad again come the chelsea game, if not worse. After every game i tell myself that we werent that bad and another thursday or sunday later im traumatized all over again. No improvement, no passion. What id love is no roy.
Red bl00ded! {ed's note - I am trying to be optimistic mate, it is not working though, I feel like crying right now!}

04 Nov 2010 21:11:47
Roy walks alone straight to Lime street Station, oh and don't forget Poulsen and Konchesky.

Stop covering the cracks Roy you are out of your depth crawl back up your Scottish purple nosed bum chums arse.

As anyone ever been sacked at half time?

04 Nov 2010 21:11:17

I can't believe jova has come off for gerrard.thats 5centre mid players

04 Nov 2010 21:10:14

Why not take Poulsen off for Gerrard?

04 Nov 2010 21:10:08

Jovanovic off and Gerrard on? I thought Jova was doing ok he should have took Poulson off.

Blair Mayne YNWA

PS. Please, Please, Please, Please f*ck off Roy!

04 Nov 2010 21:10:06

I really have seen it all now - from a man who is supposedly a top coach in English terms. 1-0 down at home - Poulsen absolutely s* te - I know let's take an alleged goalscorer off and leave Poulsen on - not an advocate of sacking managers, because we are Liverpool - but the knobhead has got to go.

Sorry ed, i had to get that off my chest,

04 Nov 2010 21:08:10
Lets be honest if spearing wasnt a scouser he would be gettin peltters he is totally out of his depth, and with poulson who should never wear the shirt again playing alongside him napoli must think they are playing a pub team.Please roy quit you are dragging us to depths i thought were impossible to get to.go now.

04 Nov 2010 21:08:09
A lot of fans are saying that sacking Roy Hodgson at this stage is not the Liverpool way. Can any of them honestly say that what we are witnessing since the start of the season is the Liverpool way? Can any of them tell me who besides Torres and Gerrard is capable of scoring? NOW is the time for drastic measures - NOW is the time to get rid of the rubbish. Most of the fans can see that players (?) like Poulsen are not good enough for Liverpool and say it often enough. Why can't the coaching staff see it and take the right action? I have been a fan for over fifty years and I can say that this the first time that the time I love is a laughing stock throughout the Premier League. I just hope that Mr Henry is the man that we all desperately want him to be!

04 Nov 2010 21:05:27

2 defensive Mids and 1 up front again! This didn't work under Rafa last year and playing weaker players certainly won't make it work this season. Roy to do the decent thing, step down, let kk fill the mangers role until we can get a manager capable of getting the club back to it's rightful place. Why is Pacheco sitting in the stand? He should be on the park and poulson can get his BFH!

04 Nov 2010 21:05:05

I'm going for 72 minutes before the camers pans on to Roy and he's hiding is eyes with his hands and shaking his head. Do us all a favour and f#@k off and take poulsen with you. Total Muppets! Couldn't manage taking a s* t let alone the mighty reds.

04 Nov 2010 21:04:54
Poulsen is a liability, he shouldn't even be in the squad, never mind the team. Is Roy Hodgson determined to to destroy LFC or is he just on something. Hopefully, and I say this with a heavy heart, we get spanked tonight in front of Mr. Henry so he realises that the manager is just not up to the task, sends him packing along with messrs Poosen, Nslow and some of the others who aren't up to it.

04 Nov 2010 21:04:39

How about signing lavezzi he looks like a very good player. I remember him linked about a year ago he reminds me of tevez.

04 Nov 2010 21:04:06

WOW Guys this is painful. What is Roy doing he is writing his own death warrant. If you are struggling for results lets play your younsters out of position, your recently injured players who are not match fit and leave all your best players in the stand PRICELESS. I just can't stand to watch its so paiful.
YOU HAVE TO FEEL SORRY FOR ALL THOSE SUPPORTERS WHO HAVE PAID THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THIS DROSS, ROY SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
By the way did you see the face of Henry and Dalglish, NOT HAPPY I THINK.

Our fans are being outdone by them Italians by voice terms.
Our team doesn't look like scoring.
Jalfrezi ( there striker lol ) looks a handful.
On the plus side. Dalglish and the yank are at the game. The yanks bird looks awesome an wow!
My beer taste's better than ever ( after my third) and I feel like a curry ( goodtimes ).
Oh yeah, and atleast I'm not an Evertonian

I wonder what Torres is thinking sat there watching this shower of s* t, only Meireles and Reina worth a start in the first team deadwood everywhere even on the bench apart from Stevie G.

Chelsea must be s* tting themselves!

04 Nov 2010 20:50:06

Hi all, todays the day when roy hodgson needs to sacked by liverpool fc, I know its not our way but desperate time calls for desperate measures. He is actually playing 4 centre midfielders merieles, shelvey, spearing and that donkey poulson and again he fails to play with any width again. This man has not got a clue what he is doing its time to get on the ring and ride roy! Kingplfc

04 Nov 2010 20:47:23

Poulsen is w#@k . I could play better than him and i've just had a knee operation. get him off roy.

04 Nov 2010 20:46:23

I'd personally rather play with 8 men than have a DM who makes an assist for the opposing team and has passed forward - toward the goal - a grand total of 3 times.

Poulsen is by far the worst Liverpool player to put on the red shirt since the Dark Days before Shankly.

04 Nov 2010 20:45:47

Apparently channel five are upset with us being on there channel due to lost of viewer figures were being lined up if we get through next match by home+1

04 Nov 2010 20:45:22
With Poulson in the squad, I bet Lucas can't believe his luck. He's winning over fans without even playing!

04 Nov 2010 20:45:04
LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB. . THIS IS ANFIELD. . YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE. . Words that actually used to mean something. The days of those words striking fear into opponents are long gone. To be honest, those words are now seen as a bad joke.
Red bl00ded!

04 Nov 2010 20:44:22

Johnson would benefit Liverpool more as a right winger, without a shadow of a doubt.

04 Nov 2010 20:43:07

POULSON DOES IT AGAIN! headed goal assist for napoli
what a w* * r , . . . . just go you idiot with hodgson, you would have thought woy would have made an effort tonight in his position!

04 Nov 2010 20:42:09
Hate to say this but this could be a blessing in disguise, Mr.Henry sat watching another dreadfull Liverpool team and performance. Please Mr.Henry this is embarrasing SACK Roy NOW

04 Nov 2010 20:40:44

I just don't get why we are playing 4central midfielders? total negative tactics

04 Nov 2010 20:40:25

Swap poulsen for van de vaart

04 Nov 2010 20:37:43

Roy - hope you were actually watching the s* te you bought ( Poulsen ) make yet another holy f* k up and cost us yet - again - get the useless prick off and Gerrard on, in fact just take him off and we'll play with 10 men -.

04 Nov 2010 20:37:28

Ngog learn to shoot with your left foot

04 Nov 2010 20:36:37

how can he wear a liverpool shirt, shows hamsik is far a better player
lavezzi seeems red hot to

04 Nov 2010 20:35:40

Poulsen is a class act . great header for napoli 1st goal

04 Nov 2010 20:35:37

Great play by poulsen in the lead up to the goal. Shame it was for the wrong team

04 Nov 2010 20:35:35
Roy is an a* hole. No pacheco, 3 centre backs on the bench and 1-0 down. Hey roy, lets throw on another cb to keep the score down.
Red bl00ded!

04 Nov 2010 20:35:18

Why does woy persist with poulsen great headed pass straight thru defence 1 - 0 only trouble is wrong team he is crap

04 Nov 2010 20:35:16

How the can poulson get a start he is garbage

04 Nov 2010 20:33:56

To all the passionate Reds out there, could one of you explain to me why we are playing with one striker up front against the mighty Napoli AT HOME.
I truely truely despair about us.
No creative midfielders, no width.
From greatness to also rans.

A very despairing fan.

Oh no it's just got worse. {ed's note - Poulsen is challenging for the title of worst ever player to pull on a Liverpool shirt, he truly is terrible.}

04 Nov 2010 20:33:05

WTF is Danny P doing in a suit and tie - as he's at the ground - he should be wearing a strip and showing the 2nd successive LFC manager to ignore him that he is an exceptional talent .

Seeing fernando in stand the he looks depressed maxi too

04 Nov 2010 20:16:26

Edinson cavani has braces, lol. decent start for both teams, but why is Shelvey on the wing? Spearing looks a tidy player

04 Nov 2010 20:11:41

It seems to be a 50/ 50 split for support for young Lucas. Can I just say he is a year older than Jay Spearing! Lets just get this into perspective he's a boy, who has grown up a lot this year. I've seen all home games this season, and he is the most consistent. OK he is guilty of the odd gaff, and tends to give daft free kicks away, but at least he has a go. I counted just one pass that went off against Bolton. Well done fella keep it up! I hope we get Llorente, ; he's superb! Why doesn't Jesus Navas get mentioned? Is it because of his aversion to travel? Steve1961.

04 Nov 2010 20:01:19
ED? Why isn't pacheco even in the squad? {ed's note - because Roy left him out.}

Mr Hodgson, you are a fool! Why is Meireles playing on the right again? Why isn't he kept for the Chelski match to play in central midfield? Why not put a youngster to play on the right? Another stubborn idioy like Rafa was.

Roys pre match interview we should defend 1st then maybe create an opening for an attack, thats inspiring Roy! When you walk down the tunnel Roy look up you will see a sign that says THIS IS ANFIELD! That means you are about to be played off the park.Well it use too! !

04 Nov 2010 19:44:08

Does anyone else agree that we have looked a lot more solid since johnson hasn't been playing. Johnson is not a right back, like bale he should be playing as a winger. We are short of pacey wingers at the moment so johnson would be a simple answer to the right hand side. Johnson makes me very nervous playing in defence.

Ed do you think benitez wants any of the current liverpool players at inter milan?
I think that if benitez comes calling for kuyt we should offer kuyt in a straight swap for coutinho or biabiani.
Also if maicon moves to madrid then we could offer johnson in a straight swap for either of the above.
Anyway apart from that i want us to sign afelly, coentrao and a striker in january but would settle for affely and a striker in jan!
striker would be anyone of llorente, lisandro or hulk!
also wat are peoples views on michael owen. .i think he is out of contract in the summer but i personally wouldn't want him back and would rather have suso, ngog or pacheco playing up front!
wat do ya think ed? {ed's note - do you really think we have a player good enough to get in the Inter team? By the way, if only Javier Zanetti was younger I would break the bank for him, that bloke is an incredible player, one of the top players in the world over the last ten years or so.}
in response to this, if i had to choose a team between the two sets of players it would be
. . . . . .reina. . . . . . .
maicon. . .lucio. . .agger. . . zanetti/ santon
coutinho. .sneider. .gerrard. . biabiani
. . . . torres. . .eto. . . .
4 out of 11 aint bad. . and wasnt benitez after kuyt in the summer?
{Editor's note - It was reported that he was and I would replace Gerrard with Cambiasso as you need a DM because Sneijder is all attack basically.}

Save your petrol mate i'll give him a piggy back! !

04 Nov 2010 19:25:37

Got to point out, my 15 year old cousin pointed out to me that this time last year we had 18 points in the premier league . . . If we had that now we would be in the champions league spots! Also i would like to see us sign Hazard, Turan and Hulk in january aswell as giving Suso, Pacheco, Amoo and Robinson more chances! Y.N.W.A Dave Turner

04 Nov 2010 19:20:43
People taliking about lucas getting a ripping , yeh he has improved from a joke , to just below average.
even for a midfielder, whether he is defensive or attacking he does not do enough to warrant a place, side ways passing, no assits, no actual tackling, no goals. Midfieild is the engine of a team and yeh he has alot of stamina but not actual other assets.

04 Nov 2010 19:19:44

Just seen an interview with the Owl and he actually said we had a very poor start to the season and we have work to do.

This may be negative but i'd rather hear it than 'this was our best performance of the season' after losing to Everton.

Maybe he's starting to toughen up a bit?!

04 Nov 2010 19:07:34

Saddened but unsurprised at Pacheos complete omission. Funny i thought roy was a fan of his. Clearly poulson a better player! JJ up front? what planet roy on! Danni will never devlop under this guy! Probably a blessing for the young lad in fairness! What do you think Ed, will he ever give danni ago? {ed's note - perhaps if the lad could play in the defensive shape Hodgson favours so much, but I doubt he will give him a go myself. Shame because he is a talent and deserves a proper run of games.}

04 Nov 2010 19:06:16

Poulsen playing. Why not pacheco. He's messi compared to poulsen. Seriously poulson? Can't tackle, can't shoot, can't run, can't header and has serious hygiene problems.

Sorry Roy but leave, just leave

"Lucas will lighten up the Prem over the next few seasons."

Has played well last 2 games but the defensive midfield role does not suit him.Busy sort of player who makes himself available and keeps the ball moving with a lot of short passes.Definitely improving but I don't think he is going to pull up any trees personally.
We shall see.

I have to agree. the most improved player over the last few seasons. Remember he's still quite young and will get a lot better in the next couple of seasons, also he's not a DM give more attacking responsibly and then will see the best of him. Last point when did we last hear him moan about being sub or not wanting to play in certain position give the lad a chance. Him or Babel or Jovanovic I know who I want

im pretty sure he meant that a he couldnt see black (a priest) on a mountain of white (the colour of sugar). .

It's a good theory, we don't know whos right and whos wrong really, bit like eric with his sardines and trawlers.

I think Llorente is probably a bit unrealistic, so we should go for Hugo Almeida. Maybe not as prolific, but it would take some pressure off Torres. We would then have more money for Coentrao and Affelay. With those three signings out team could look like this;

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Coentrao

Lucas Gerrard Meireles

Torres Almeida Affelay

04 Nov 2010 18:34:47

In response to:

"- Have you actually watched any Liverpool games this season pal? Lucas has consistantly been the better of our players. He devleloping nicely into a great Midfielder, I suppose you were one of the numpties who boo'd him all last season? Watch this space. . Lucas will lighten up the Prem over the next few seasons."

Have you been watching the matches mate? I personally believe Lucas is rubbish and would get rid of ASAP. Would much rather see Shelvey, or Spearing in that position, or move Meirles there and play a support to Torres. Waste of space in my opinion.

Liverpool Team I would like to see at the end of January:

Formation: 4-1-2-1-2

Squad:

GK: Reina

RB: Johnson

CB: Carra/ Skrtel

CB: Agger

LB: Coentrao (Around 20M)

CM(NOT CDM): Gerrard

RM: Hazard/ Sanchez (Around 20M)

LM: Mata/ Munain (Around 20M)

CAM: Cole

RS: Torres

LS: Llorente/ Dzeko (Around 30M)

Roy was brought in to steady the ship, yes he's done that but the ship hasn't moved forward since. If the right manager was brought he could've steadied the ship whilst moving forward. Oh Well!

I don't understand why liverpool convert PROVEN strikers into wingers then complain we don't have enough strikers and our ''wingers'' are not good enough.
kuyt had an extremely good scoring record, great headerer of the ball, held up the ball very well now playing on the right without much effect. imagine that strength and drive along with torres.
then comes babel, after being converted to left winger, he lost the will to play because he couldnt adapt well to play as one (big teams werent just on his case for nothing. ).
NOW LIVERPOOLFC.TV proudly revealing thier plans for pacheco and why he hasnt been featuring lately. , it is because he has been playing for the reserves on the right wing to learn how to play as a winger, PISSES ME OFF. he was the biggest reason spain U19 performed so well. he holds the ball up brilliantly, very skillful, causes the defence to come up and then puts a through ball for the striker ahead of him, his rightful place should be behind torres. ed?
RedSox69 {ed's note - Babel was always played as a wide forward for Ajax, he is just a lazy, full of himself, average player. Pacheco played wide left for Spain U19s, but he was given freedom to play, he won't get that while we have managers like Hodgson or Rafa in charge.}

It was Gerard Houllier who allowed Jamie Redknapp was leave on a free transfer to Spurs not Rafa. Both Redknapp Junior and Senior have become vindictive towards Liverpool.
Anybody would think Jamie redknapp career was ultra successful with lots of winners medals. All I can think he would have won is the League Cup in 1995 vs Bolton. Although he was club captain I think he was probably injured during the Cup treble year of 2000/ 2001. Then he was released

Sorry you are right, massive error there on my part it was houlie. I never thought his carreer was ultra sucessfull I actually thought he could be quite lazy. In terms of vindictive, you may be right about harry, again I don't read the comments any more but its not just them really, It seems that since Rafa took charge there have been a massive hate campaign against us, i also never bothered looking for the bale/ lennon video either when I knew it was out there because I just can't be bothered hearing it. I guess all ex players claim to be fans of the clubs they have played for. It is possible Jamie piles it on thick against liverpool to further a media carreer but I still think he wants to see the club do well, It seems it may be just my opinion though.

That's ok mate. I agree there has been a massive anti Liverpool campaign on Spurs Sports News, the London centric West Ham, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea supporting press and media in recent years. Remember Liverpool have been doing what Spurs did on Tuesday for many years and I don't remember this fuss over a match still in the group stage of the Champions League.
These journalists and presenters want to see the end of Liverpool. Did you not see the match against Bolton last Sunday when the Sky Sports panel was Liverpool haters and 'friends of Fergie' Sam Allardyce, Peter Reid, Andy Gray and Richard Keys. It was so embarrasingly anti Liverpool.

Alot of people asking for 4-3-3. after watching wolves torture man city last weekend im not sure that would help. but when it does work it is very attacking and the team could'nt play much worse. the 1 thing i assumed roy would do when he arrived was to change formation, every1 could see that benitez was too defensive. how wrong i was.

looking forward to the game tonight even after the games we have all endured im still optimistic lol.

Opinions! spurs fans were not looking to crucify, he was just very poor at his job, frank arnesen did all the good work which comolli undone, wenger is very diplomatic and would not create a nagativaty regarding former staff. the fa ct being that a lot of liv fans are blinded by his role just becau se he is at liverpool does not mean he is good at his job! he i s very poor! wasting funds and by-passing talent, if a scout found the new gerrard he would and will pass it over as his was not his find? these supporting him will doubt see sense! we as a club were in the right hands and moving forward! he froze our club and moved it backwards and since he has moved on we have again moved forward! be afraid be very very afraid with comolli"

If he was so poor, then why did Redknapp decide to re-sign Kaboul, Prince-Boateng go to Milan and Bent become a gaol machine? And where were the calls for Levy's head when the Berbatov saga became a soap opera and Comolli had been cut out of the transfer dealings? I'm sorry but in my opinion Comolli carried the can, which is not unreasonable given he staked his reputation on Ramos, but there were many commentators, particularly from Spain, who believed Spurs had nabbed the best coach in Europe at the time. No one could have foreseen just how at odds he would be with the English game.

if he was so poor? harry re-signed kaboul because he knew he could trust him and also was looking for a centre half at the time and so the player he had worked with plus pompey still owing us the money from his sale was re bought simple as that! as for kpb again did well at pompey and will only be a bit part player with milan? and will move on! question though what makes you think comolli found these two? because he had nothing to do with kaboul nor taraabt (qpr) who is setting the championship alight! (also thfc have 1st option) and as for bent wtf has he got to do with comolli? little fish in a big ocean was bent at spurs! he has found his level now and enjoying his football and good luck to him lets hope he stays at sunderland instead of going backwards to smaller club! & where were the call's for levy's head when we sold berbatov? you must be deaf? many were calling for his head! ramos was heralded as one of the best coaches in europe yes? and he just could not adapt to english methods and way of living! as i said you will now get liverpool fans defending someone they know nothing about! good luck to you i hope he does all your dealings you will be buying players with fancy names who are no better than what your looking at, at the moment! if i were you stick to the c.coles and st'ledgers of this world! !"

Clam down, don't strain yourself. If you honestly believe Comolli wasn't responsible for Kaboul and Taraabt then i guess we''ll just have to agree to disagree (you may have first option, but that doesn't mean he'll want to re-sign). If people were calling for Levy's head in anything like the manner they were quick to shift the blame to Commoli then why is the latter still considered a terrible scout and the former hailed as one the smartest chairmen in the league?

In my eyes Spurs fans are all too eager to rewrite history in order to proclaim everyone's favourite tax dodger as a messiah and undermine the achievements of Comolli. Quick question, who do you actually accept Comolli was responsible for signing, as if i believed what Spurs fans are saying anyone vaguely successful, that he was widely credited for spotting, was someone else's accomplishment. Bale, Modric, Corluka, Assou-Ekotto, Bent, Kaboul, KPB etc etc. Surely even you can't say they were all down to someone else?

I for one am relatively positive about the Comolli appointment. I realise the Arsenal and Spurs fans want to stick the boot in, but a large number of Spurs's first team players were signed whilst he was at the club. To be honest our scouting/ recruiting over the last 10 years has been very poor. Most players we sign end up going nowhere or being sold at a heavy loss. There are notable exceptions.
Also, I think DC's appointment might see a french manager come in. No, NOT Zidane, but possibly Deschamps.
RED HERRING

two of the spurs 1st team squad were comolli's bae with the jury still out on him as most spurs fans are still unsure? loses his head alot! and the other is dorian dervite? yep he got bent as well with jol at the time stating he was not ready for the step up, to which he was proved right! comolli still held his roll but he was moved sidewards at the club, his dealings were held back! tim atouba was one of his dealings that were pushed through many others were not

It's just my opinion, but I honestly think that all we need is two additions to the first team in the Jan trasnfer window. A good, proven goal scorer in the form of Hulk or Lllorente or even Bent and a good right winger.

I say this as all the top teams have at least 2 or 3 good or world class strikers (Man Utd - Rooney and Berba, Chelski Drogba and Anelka, Man City Tevez and Adeboyor, Arsenal RVP and Chamakh) and 1 or 2 up and coming strikers (Man Utd - Hernandez, Chelski - Kalou, Man City - Balloteli, Arsenal - Vela), whislt we only have Torres as a world class striker (and anyone who thinks differently doesn't know squa about football) and a couple of up and coming strikers in Ngog and Pacheo.

We need a winger as Kuyt is too slow and Maxi is nothing more than a squad player.

The other thing is we need a manager who is willing to bring the youth players into the team and manage them properly.

Nothing too drastic, we don't need to spend £50m + and we don't need to be linked to every player under the Sun

I always admired Jamie redknapp when he played for Liverpool. He was a classy midfielder who was I believe if injuries had not caught up with him was as good as anyone in Europe at that time. But his anti Liverpool comments are just becoming ridiculous. He is clearly in the 'pocket' of Redknapp senior.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I know what you mean about the comments, however I think allot of them are said due to a mixture of his media career and having to be seen to be impartial and partly due to pure frustration at what has happened to Liverpool, I rant about something every day The year we came second and we were top for a while I remember Jamie praising the crap out of Rafa and what he'd built and admitting he was wrong and He always looks pissed off when Liverpool loose. His dad had a high regard for Liverpool as well as Jamie was there from 18 years of age but that was a different time at the club. Rafa shook things up at Liverpool and an injured player was never going to be part of his plans, I don't expect Harry would have been happy about that and as a result he was never a fan of Rafa and his staff.
Jamie and John Barnes are great mates and I used to see them both in town together, I bet if you asked Barnes about Liverpool he would have a few negative words to say. You can tell from some of the interviews that Kenny is unhappy too. The reason he wants to manage again is not because he wants to get back involved with football, it's because he's not willing to just sit idly by and let the club go to ruins. I could name a whole host of ex players that I have heard bare their frustration over the past couple of years especially last season and a half. Aldo his pulling his hair out. I haven't read today's comments, but I don't have to read them to know what he's saying, and the reason I'm not even going to bother is because it winds me up, and I don't get angry about Jamie I get angry about how we got here, I for one am great full for these ex players, and I know it's annoying to read but if you reading them then so might be NESV, it's one more public mouth piece saying exactly what's been said on chat rooms like this by real Liverpool fans.

Then he was released.

Just saw a rumour on here that we were still going after an english manager after what was said about peligrini. I think someone has got the news tangled up, as it stated that it was raised at a meeting last week with peligrini, but it actually sounds like the meeting that took place in summer; where peligrini met kenny in hethrow, and was by purslow that they wanted english.

So don't worry people, are next manager may not (probably won't) be english

Re Damien Comolli

Have been reading various comments from all over regarding comolli. some good, some not so.
However there is a central thread to all of them. this man can spot talent! The problems at spurs with jol can be seen as comolli being given too much say in the running of the team. where he has excelled he has solely been responsible for finding talent. in the long term. anyone remember that phrase from somewhere.

This fits in perfectly with NESV ethos. .and i honestly believe they are viewing this situation in the long term. by that over the next 4/ 5 years.

Anyone who expects a flurry of huge signings may be mistaken. maybe one or two but the emphasis will be on changing us from the grass roots up.

Resale value will rule. and to be fair why shouldnt it. The german market will become widely utilised, because its still possible to find/ get players there relatively cheaply.
At liverpool we have a wage bill around the 120 million mark, with a group of older players on very large salaries indeed. this model will no longer be substainable. we may pick up an older player on a free now and then but the emphasis will surely be on youth. both youth we presently have and those brought in by comolli.

I have to say i am excited by this appointment. it gives a more balanced structure to future dealings. after all commilli knows many of the backers of NESV, and fits in with their vision.

It makes perfect sense to have someone like him. so long as the role he has is ringfenced. If i were Roy i would be worried, because for this model to work you need a manager that is willing to be adventurous with youth and tactics. two things roy seems to be lacking.

If u pick the bones through the reserves and academy, there are 6 players that have a realistically good chance of making it at liverpool,

ROBINSON
STERLING
WISDOM
WILSON
SHELVEY

. . . and last but not least, the magnificent 'SUSO'!.

ed, what do u think?. . . close to the mark?

04 Nov 2010 14:05:40

If all goes well and henry gets his dosh out come january, and say we buy another striker because we need to be playing with two strikers and we manage to get 2 realy good wingers, where is joe cole going to fit into our plans? ? Benchwarmer he's not gonna like that

Experienced 11

Reina

Luke Young Carragher Kyrgy Konchesky

Cole Poulsun Gerrard Duff

Kuyt Keane

Quality 11

Jones

Johnson * Agger Coentrao

Ashley Young Lucas() Meireles Robben

Torres Hulk

*( Kjaer, Hangeland, Skrtel )

Im not qa big fan of skrtel,
Hangeland is proven quality( relationship with Hodgson )
Kjaer will be great( would then partner Agger at club and international level )

() or ( Aqui, Huddelstone )

Although Lucas has had loads of time to prove himself i still seem to think he will be quality in the future, if not then Aquilani or Huddelstone

I feel This 22man squad i have listed would in time be the best in europe, a perfect mixture of experience and quality, one in each position. Also note that the only players in this squad who don't have an international partner at he club are kyrgy( who is alredy settled in ) and Jones ( who ia australian, wouldn't be a problem ).

Therefore i feel the transfer activity between now and the start of the 2011-2012 season should be,

OUT: Aurelio, Jovanovic, Maxi, Babel, Ngog, Skrtel, Aqui OR Lucas( or both and sign huddelstone ), Degan, El Zhar, Insua, Ayala.

IN: Luke Young, Kjaer( Hangeland, Skrtel ), Coentrao( Filipe ), Ashley Young( Jesus Navas, Arda Turan ), Duff, Robben( Michel Bastos ), Keane, Hulk( Benzema, Dzeko ).

If Torres was to leave liverpool( pleade don't nando ) then i woyld replace him with Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

Reserve Squad

Hansen, Gulacsi

Darby, Kelly, Wilson, Mavinga, Robinson, Wisdom, Coady,

Amoo, Spearing, Shelvey, Ince, Palsson

Eccelston, Pacheco, Ngoo

First of i want to commend the editor and this site as it saves me from my boring mudane job!

I would love to see some belief come back into the players. Their over all play is so poor that it begs me to think what they actually do at their training sessions. I want to see Ngog n torres playing up front as it creates more space for torres to thrive in. He gets very fustrated when he is up on his own, especially when we have no natural width and he is out of form. With regards to Hodgeson I hope we stick with him for at least a season. Good managers like him do not turn bad after 10 games! its refreshing to see an englishman at the helm.

Nesv are now the new owners of LFC and have promised to be more professional in their conduct of the club than the previous american owners.

The recent annouuncement of commile to LFC staff is positive for LFC provided commile knows his job and place at the club. If commile starts to dictate what the manager does, then LFC could be in for more hard times.

Will Nesv allow this to happen?

I believe Liverpool were at there most sucessful when we had a good solid defensive midfielder or one with the ability to pick out a pass.

From Souness to Alonso we have played better, and failed when we are missing this piece of the jigsaw. Sure it looks like we are frail in different places, but I think this role gives the players around him the confidence to play. Poulson is yet to demonstrate that ability for LFC, but it is no surprise to me that after losing Alonso, we have our worst finish for years and then after losing Monster Masch, we have our worst start for years.

Do we have anyone in the current setup who can make this position theirs and if not who should we be looking at?

04 Nov 2010 13:46:39

Shaun st ledger.
for a brief moment i thought it was the 1st april, surely roy cannot be considering him as a possible target, if he is then he should go now.
hopefully comolli will have a few young targets in mind who will add flair and pace to the team.if nesv want to be loved by the fans then a big name signing in january will go a long way to acheiving this.personally i would love to see fernando llorente partner torres up front, if we cannot get him then mario gomez if bayern will let him go considering his recent form would also be a quality addition.it will be intresting to see who has overall control of transfers in january will it be roy or comolli only time will tell but i don, t think nesv trust roy to spend their money wisely in any transfer market and it is only a matter of time before roy leaves the club probably by mutual consent.

04 Nov 2010 13:40:58
Alomost all of Comolli's young acquisitions at his previous post worked . It seems it is his his transfers of some of the older players that were not quite up to scratch , perhaps Spurs were also loathe to spend premium sums on players in their late 20's .

Ed?

I do not get how liverpool want to be competing with the big boys, I am a liverpool supporter through and through,

but from what i have seen so far deals such as buying poulsen, are leting us down and if we were smart why not sell kuyt when there was interest in him? we could have easly got santon and a couple of million from inter,

Another thing is why not selll Gerrard? he is approaching 30 so why wasnt he sold last summer?
we could have easly got boletteli(spelling) and 5-10 million extra,

how is liverpool ment to be competative when we do not know when to let go and move on, whats the point of haveing a 30 year old in the squad when in two years he will be worth nothing! what are we becoming a new ac milan!

God this guy is talking some s* t.
Yeah because scholes is 35 and one of man utd best players.
Gerard has years ahead of him he still faster than most and fitter. And the best centre mid in the league and maybe the world.
Another example inzaghi is 37 and still scores 2 against them
Also beckham is 40. I say no more

I feel gerrard has the ability to be the best holding midielder
In the world in coming 7 years or so.

Harry5:)

{Editor's Note: David Beckham is nothing like 40.}

04 Nov 2010 13:38:39

Hi all
I hear Johnson could be back tonite nut really hope he plays Martin Kelly as I believe he is developing into a quality player. Be unfair to drop him.
Also feel gerrard should be on the bench bit Torres should play 60 mins to try build up his match fitness and help his consistency a goal or two tonite could help him be inform against Chelsea.
Also now comoli is there I don't think anyone will know who is comin in. Is he into the sabremetrics?

Fowler is god

04 Nov 2010 13:35:32

LFC to sign the kind of bright talent that will force Roy Hodgson to play more expansive .

I heard somewhere that RH only coaches the defensive nature of the side during training sessins , relying on the individual talent of the players to shine through on the match day .

Perhaps with more creative attacking players forced upon him we will see good football again .

Comolli's appointment is a very positive move .

04 Nov 2010 13:32:18
I feel optimistic about the appointment of Comolli , short and long term .

Looking at his time at Spurs , though criticised by some for a lack of team balance in the playing personnel he recruited , the Spurs team still boasted enough rare talent and quality to finish 5th twice under Martin Joll (surprising at the time) and even more now his acquisitions are largely responsible for the great performances and results that Spurs are consitently achieving under 'Arry Redknapp .

I think therefore we can look forward to a successful player talent pool in due course , providing the Manager , even Roy Hodgson with the resources to win football matches at the highest level properly .

Only Martin Joll has contoversial comments about him , due to the loss of his job during Comolli's squad transition .

Perhaps Comolli works best within a tenure of few years , rejuvinating a transfer policy and revamping a squad to compete for the club at it's best , using his foundation allied with the ingenuity of key personnel .

I feel new signings are going to create a stir within the next few transfer windows . Both with a short and long term focus .

Thankyou .

04 Nov 2010 13:31:49

There seems to be loads of great young talent out there, but I for one would like to see us concentrate on our own young players and the undiscovered ones (such as Hernandez was for united), as they cost less and seem to have less arrogance than some of these young guys who have been scouted by everyone. What do you think ed?

(Editor's Note: I agree but there does need to be a balance.}

Hodgson has made a statement!, it sounds like fighting talk to me, or words of a worried man!

have a read, take it as you will!

Roy Hodgson has issued a bold statement of intent following the news of Damien Comolli joining Liverpool as Director of Football Strategy.
The under-fire Reds boss greeted the news with a sense of cautious optimism, insisting that it is part and parcel of the modern game. However, he was also quick to dismiss reports that Comolli would interfere with managerial matters at the club.
"We will wait and see but I'm happy with the appointment and I have no problems with it at all, " claimed ex-Inter Milan manager Hodgson.
"It is something we talked about with owners.
"I come from a background in Europe where it is common.
"The new owners do not want that model where one man, whether that be me or Comolli or anybody else, has all the cards in his hand and can decide everything that happens at the club.
"But even managers who don't have the set-up we are setting up here, they all have someone they lean on and take advice from."
Hodgson went on to explain his intentions to maintain full control over footballing matters such as transfers and team selection.
He added: "As far as I know there's never been a sporting director who had a large input on team selection and on transfers.
"I would be surprised if managers and coaches of the class of Martin Jol and Juande Ramos just took players on someone else's recommendation, I don't know but it won't happen here.
"Maybe it will and if that day comes God Forbid I will deal with it but it's certainly not the idea behind his appointment I do know that for certain."
In light of Comolli's high profile appointment it is important that Roy stamps his authority on the team early on so as not to compromise his authority at the club. If the manager is in any way undermined by another member of staff then his position effectively becomes untenable and it will ultimately lead to one party being removed from the equation.
With a question mark still hanging over Roy's ability in the transfer market, everyone involved will have to work hard within strict constraints to ensure they do not cross the fine line between each other's roles and responsibilities. If it works, great. If it doesn't, someone is going to lose out and given that Comolli is NESV's own appointment it will most likely be the manager.

Why would he want to go to LIVERPUDDLE?

Why when people try to attack Liverpool can they not come up with something better than this?

A good replacement for Sammy Lee would be Paco Ayestarán ?

Sorry to see that Pellegrini has not been snapped up.

Here's some examples of Commoli's supposed "wasted funds" - Henry, Pires, Clichy, Toure, Modric, Berbatov, Dos Santos, Bale. Well I for one am absolutely bricking it! !
Commoli was used as a scapegoat for the Jol/ Ramos debacle, possibly fairly. Fact is, he was given too much say in the running of the club. He has an incredible eye for talent and as long as this is all he is asked to do (which appears to be the case), then I for one am happy with this appointment. To the Spurs fans mocking this appointment as he "nearly ruined our club", then I would like to point out that somebody already at your club (and currently lauded as the manager of all managers), has done a fantastic job of ruining 3 possibly 4 historically great clubs. Good luck with that!

ive just moved to london and this is what im hearing from everyone. i have friends who work looking after sponsors at spurs and everyone was over the moon when he left.
he has a massive ego and has never kept a job longer than a couple of years. we have signed allot of young players over the last 4 years and non have come through to the first team yet. it may be a step in the right direction. .but he is by no means the answer to our troubled transfer policy at liverpool.

laugh all u want but id rather see houlier in this role than Camollli! spurs as a club were totally unaffected by his departure and have continued to sign the best youth tallent around. .
there are allot of amazing scouting staff/ football directors in europe, i would have poached valencia's long before i hired camolli.

watch this space i guess!

this statement is just so contradictory.
On Spanish football 2nite GB said " Pellegrini was in London last week speaking to Liverpool who were said to not be interested due to him being foreign " He will no be appointed Malaga boss in a few days.

why in hell would we make contact, arrange a meeting, fly Mr Pellegrini to london, actually go to the meeting, hold discussions, and all of this just to tell the poor guy that we don't want to employ him because he is foreign, when it was quite obvious that we knew he was foreign before first contact; why not just phone the guy's agent! !

I think we need to play our best 11, perhaps include a youngster in that. We have 2 wins in a row, we must start getting momentum and the players need to play together. Its too early to rotate, the players need confidence not a rest.They clearly are having to learn new tactics and set plays and this won't happen if we never start our key players.
I would rather play Gerrard, Torres, Reina and risk them getting injured for the Chelsea game than rest them. The positives to come out from them playing and winning tonight far outway those from them not playing and the team winning tonight. . .regarding confidence for Chelsea.

With Comolli coming in, I really hope this doesn't diminish the role of Kenny Dalglish in any way. Hope it works in a way that Comolli identifies players, Kenny says whether they're Liverpool material.
The less influence Hodgson has over the transfers the better i'd say. Is Konchesky any better than Insua? Really? And how does us playing £5m to Juventus for Poulsen and then giving them Aquilani on loan really make any sense?

Just a point of Roy's press conference yesterday, why the hell is he apologising for things he "may" have said which could cause offence. Whilst I agree with what Rafa said in his press conference, for Roy to bend over and say sorry showed he has no back-bone, and just wants to please people.
He's lucky he's we've won the last two games, like Rafa said his press conferences are getting worse. Linking Torres with MU, saying Everton performance was best of season. . .next he'll be saying Christian Poulsen is better than Andres Iniesta!

I think comolli has been brought in to protect the owners money based on the players hodgson has bought.i don't think we should buy anyone one in january, roy should be brave enough to blood the youngsters in hence if your good enough your old enough.we should see the season out then have a full overhaul of the squad in the summer see who we want to keep then make potential signings based on consistant talent and not on players who play well then go missing for a few weeks.we need players like alonso who was bought as a young player and matured into a great player.so please stop naming silly players names its becoming a ridicule to read. ps roy you don't have the character to manage our club i'm sorry

Id just like to say from an irish perspective that liverpool is seen as an amazing place to go.Me and my mates go over at least twice a year for matches.Two of my mates are manc fans and they love the place and the people.I for one would be happy to live there, i love it.Dont understand what all the negativity is about and if i seen bale anywhere id be happy to give him a right hook he wouldn't forget in a hurry.

Rodolfo and Kenny seem to have a good working relationship. How about them as the new management team? Atleast press conferences might be a bit more positive and less dreary than they are under Hodgson.

Now read that roy is making dani pacheco learn to play wide areas?? ?
why the hell would he want to do that the lad is a striker and a pretty decent one if his performances at the under 19s are anything to go by.can anybody explain to me when we are short of attacking options why you would want to make one of your strikers a winger.
surely if hes winger that's where he would have been playing all his career. is it me or has roy lost his mind

ed please tell me you have heard this muppet is in for the chop sooner rather than later
REDhunty {ed's note - I have given up hoping it will be soon, it is taking NESV so long to get everything else sorted.}

You lot are in serious trouble with comolli on board! just ask spurs and arsenal fans, btw he had nothing to do with bale, berbatov or modric! yes he got henry but that was his only big one but then again the arsenal manager did most of the work, and i think at the time henry was at juve at the time? please leave agent hodgson alone!

Fans should concentrate on events at lfc to which they can contribute in a positive way. They should get behind the team and offer their support as always. Events that they can't control should be left to the parties dealing with them as hiring and firing can only be done by the board. Speculation on signings etc is fine but we are getting carried away by stating that HG will be fired etc. This only leads to discomfort and the unity of the club. We are a champion club and carry ourselves as champions. Sooner or later we shall again be in the mix and all will be fine.

Just a few facts garnered from a website. Makes interesting reading (he still has to go though imo):

* Hodgson lost fewer games in the first 18 than Benitez, as did Houllier.

* Hodgson is unbeaten in 13 out of 18 games (72% of games), as was Houllier. Benitez managed only 12 out of 18 games.

* People moan about Hodgson's away record; Well, the fact is Benitez, Houllier AND Hodgson managed only 3 away wins in each of their respective first 18 games.

* Hodgson has also achieved the same number of home wins as Benitez in his first 18 games as, and one more than Houllier.

I watch alot of german football,
I've been watching U19's stuff recently and theres this big centre half called Alban Sabah playing for schalke! He's big n mean, built like a panzer, great in the air, reminds me of sami hyypia, so composed for his age. We should snap him up, he's got a great future ahead of him.
Heck his damien comolli fella, give me the job, i'll do it for half his salary! But i can only speak Irish and English!

Did anyone else notice this on the BBC website, it's a comment by European scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen about the role of the Director of football: "Structurally, it always makes sense that the director of football arrives before the head coach or manager, so he can have a hand in appointing a person who shares his vision". If this is the case, how long for Roy now?

What is RH playing at? he needs to stick up for the reds, torres got no backing when he was called a cheat and now hes apologising for bein honest. the guy needs to go, if he can't stand up to other managers hows he gonna stand up to the players in the dressing room who undermine him? i really do think this jobs way too big for roy. take your payout, let them make a movie about your short time with the club, i would love to know whats been going on behind the scenes. . and pleasseeee not martin o'niell, he plays rubbish football too. . the man has got to be manuel pellegrini. he can handle big players and plays good football and can also manage on tight budgets. his villareal team said it all. bye bye roy. scunnyred

Here we go again if the press are to be believed, Hodgson chasing 2nd rate players, from English teams, Pavlachenko?, Cole, SWP, Ashley Young, players that cannot even get regular starts for there present teams, now Sean StLegar, from Preston.

Gone are the days when Liverpool or any team would look to the lower leagues and find diamonds, agents and academies have ensured the best players are channeled at early ages to the best teams.

Hodgson may be a nice man, but he lacks ambition, and courage, he talks rubbish i.e. "Our display against Everton was the best we have played this season"

Talk about blind!

He slags Rafa and by association his signings off, saying they are not good enough, well those players finished 5 places, and 17 points above Hodgsons Fulham team last year. Not a great way to motivate your team! !

Lastly he is NOT A WINNER, he has won nothing in football in any major league, by that I mean England, Italy, Spain, Germany or France. I don't see Sweden or Denmark as major leagues.

Its simple he is not good enough, and he should be replaced by someone alot better, someone who will attract top players not 2nd rate ones

This is just the first part of an article released yesterday that squashes the silly rumour about zidane becoming manager, i don't know these over active imaginations of some people!
Real Madrid have re-worked their backroom staff with former players Zinedine Zidane and Reuben de la Red both taking on new roles.

Zidane has been working as an advisor to president Florentino Perez, but he will not be more involved with coach Jose Mourinho.

Zidane, a Real legend, will help liase between the club's management and the players - as he is very close to a number of the club's current squad.

The appointment of Damien Comolli is either a sign that NESV do not have a lot of faith in roy's ability in the transfer market or, its because he has been hired before the new management decision has been finalised so he can give his own opinion of NESV's selected candedates! i don't know who, probably nobody any of us have thought of, but i expect a radical thinker with a track record of winning, and roy will be history soon."

I'd guess the latter. There's no point selecting a new manager and then appointing a Director of Football as there's always the chance that the former may not appreciate as has been the case with numerous managers in recent years. I think NESV have been smart and are looking to create the framework first and then slot a new manager in who can work within it. This way there's far less chance of losing or having to sack another manager. I know we all likely want Hodgson gone, particularly after some of his comments which show a complete lack of understanding as to what the job entails, but i'm pleased that this is the chosen course by NESV. A knee-jerk sacking may have applied a plaster to the wound but not healed the problems at the core of the club. Let's just hope they also shift their focus to better integration of youth talent and hopefully a more universal playing style across academy, reserves and first team that may facilitate such a thing.

Why don't we get Andy Carrol. He looks strong, can run off 4 players. Turns nothing into something.

we really need him here at liverpool. I can't see anyone else in europe who would do a better job.

Short answer. He's s* t.
