I'd love to see a new striker at Anfield as i'm sure everyone else would, me + my dad were trying to work out before how much we'd have to spend (from sales) this came out at about 20 or 25 (i can't remember) plus whatever Ronald McDonald + Colonel Sanders are prepared to give. 20 mill? 40/ 45mill to spend on talent! One was a black guy looking a bit like el hadji diouf ha ha not him though but the same kind of style as him if any of you have seen him about and the driver was a slim white guy. Hello fellow reds just a rumour of my girlfriends mate she is the tour guide of lfc, they have been told to dress smart tomorrow as there won't be tours going on in anfield and that there will be a press conference regarding the signing of 4 players! i assume two of them will be konchesky and meireles but who will the others be? She said she doesn't know but her boss said should be a big day at anfield tomorrow! heres hoping she also told her when torres signed she was in a room with him at anfield 2 days before he was unveiled, whicj i thought was bull but she was right then!

ED - was just thinking, the Merieles deal went through yesterday for 11.5 million, everybody is saying this money is coming out of the Mascherano sale. But surely this is not the case, as we have only just sold Masch today, therefore would not of recieved the money for Merieles before we signed him. So it would of been a gamble buying him then to find out the Masch deal falls through last minute, so does this mean we still have all the 18 mill from the Masch deal left to spend?

Liverpool Misfit Mascherano Completes Move to the Barcelona Bench
Javier Mascherano has described his move to Barcelona as a "dream" after arriving in the city to complete his £22 million switch to the Spanish champions. he has agreed terms on a four-year deal worth around £90,000 a week which includes a £75m buyout close.
I would be very surprised if the Argentine gets a regular spot in the Barcelona starting eleven. If you take a look at the Nou Camp midfield it is pretty much jam packed with talents and quite how he fits in is beyond me.
Pepe Guardiola's first team will always have Xavi and Andres Iniesta as the first names selected and then as a defensive midfielder he has regular selected Sergio Busquets ever since he broke onto the scene at the Catalan giants the season before last, so where the hell will Javier fit in?

My theory is judging by the what people are saying on this site everyone top choice strikers are aguero gomez llorente and dzecko and in my opinion the most expensive from this list would be dzecko because agureo has been very quite in recent months and his price has dropped but dzecko has increased dramaticlly. .and gomez being the cheapest i think we should think realistically who would be the best in the EPL? I DONT THINK AGUERO WOULD BE even though i would love to see him partnering nando! it has to be dzecko for me all day long but what is woy going to suprise us with in the final hours? .

What we all need to realise is that although many parts of the London based media and press love to make 'digs' at LFC debt and our financial and ownership situation, many other clubs around Europe are in the same or even worse financial situation. This was caused by over spending in the 'good' times when credit was easy to get. This is not the situation at Liverpool where the Leveraged takeover and buy out by H&G is the cause (this will soon disappear when the takeover happens).
Because of this debt on the continent, as well the poor economy in Southern Europe and th epossible collapse of the Euro currency expect many deals to happen tomorrow especially where a so called auction for particular players has failed to take place.
So players previously thought to be around £15m or £20m will transfer for between £6m to £10m. many of these European club owners are very desperate. They have their banks calling in loans!
So those that do not think Liverpool will not make anyor indeed several signings on Tuesday think again.
This is the groundwork done by Purslow in July and August and is the reason Torres and Gerrard decided to stay. Liverpool have made bids weeks ago and will not move on the price because they realise that these clubs will become desperate to 'get money in'.
Liverpool can do this because of our massive and fantastic support worlwide, new sponship deals with Standard Chartered as well as others and because we have started to 'pull in' massive revenues from China and the Far East.
It is going to be very exciting in the coming weeks.
Just wait and see.
P.S - David moyes will become the New Aston Villa manager by the weekend. Fallen out with Kenwright over sale of Rodwell to ManUtd. he feels he needs to change to a club with money (Lerner is very wealthy).

Latest on the takeover saga - Sheik Mohammed al Maktoum, Larry Ellison and Sheik Khallifa have all completed Due Dilligence. So take your pick which you want to be the new owners
After the subdued atmosphere at Anfield during matches and away from the ground, lets face it everyone, the takeover of the club is the most important thing at the moment, just as long as the team can get themselves through the next few weeks and pick up as many points as possible (whatever the performance).
In terms of new owner - I feel from what I have read and seen Sheik Mohammed Al Maktoum would be a fantastic new custodian of the club. He is has massive personal wealth £18bn, loves sport (horseracing and football), apparently has supported Liverpool for many years and he would see it as a great honour to own the club. It would also be a matter of honour for an 'honourable gentleman' that he attempts make the team great again.
It also seems that no none will buy the club for anywhere near the £500m H&G want. It is more likely all bidders will wait until October when they will get the club very much cheaper. The money saved can then be spent on getting the New Anfield built (77,000 capacity for 1977) and some new players in January.
I don't care what the Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea supporting Southern media and pundits say ('Harry this and Harry that'), but any player worth his soul would still consider it a great career move to join Liverpool FC.

He is the most improved player in the side because he has gone from being absolutely garbage to being mediocre and could do a job for our neighbours TRANMERE!
Tranmere is a bit harsh but defo a mid table team to the guy who said the above about Lucas and Carlton you are speaking out your arse Lucas is S* t and Carlton is not good enough for Liverpool, The Prem is getting faster each season and our players are getting slower. No point having a world class striker up front if we can't get the ball to his feet. There are a lot of good rumers going round at the moment which excites me but Carlton just has to be a no no.

Ok fellas all of these names your banding about is useless, roy would of been putting out the feelers WEEEKS in advance and not hours or days. so speculating all these different players is just dreamland as our squad stands we do NEED a few positions but in 2 days were not going to be able to sell 3-4 of our players and suddenly bring in 2 wingers and a striker. expect a striker with all the remaining money or a mediocre striker and a decent winger, i doubt it will be both it seems like the remaining money from transfers will be given to the dirty yanks to try and service the debt alittle longer.

If Carlton Cole is really about to sign for Liverpool give the lad a chance. Does everybody remember the reaction when Liverpool signed Peter Crouch for £7m in summer 2005?
The reaction generally was lukewarm as it was thought he had failed at all his previous clubs. His career was going downhill fast. Crouch was at Southampton after failing at A.Villa and had been loaned out to Norwich in the 04/ 05 season and had only been called back when James Beattie was signed by Everton for £6m.
It was thought that Rafa signed Crouch for Liverpool after a good performance for Southampton against the 'pool'.
Crouch had an average start for LFC and some fans didn't think he was up to Prem.League standards and it took him quite a few games to score his first goals (two against Wigan, one a big deflection). Then his confidence grew and he started to become a popular member of the squad and was called up by Sven G.E to the England squad where he was firstly verbally abused at Old Trafford during England games before turning the England fans in his favour.
If C.Cole signs for Liverpool we should remember he was given his Chelsea debut by Ranieri and was only released when Ambramovich brought in big names in the Mourinho era.
He is an England international, very strong and maybe now after some years in the semi wilderness on loan at Aston Villa and spells with Charlton and West Ham he is starting to fulfill potential that many pundits and people in football thought he would in the early noughties.
At least give him a chance if the deal goes through before Tuesday 5pm.

Unfortunatley i doubt that Roy will Buy a winger by tuesday as getting a striker is his top priority. And buying a striker would leave no money available for a winger.
I think that Carlton Cole is the most likely to be signed out of the rumored strikers, but after the quick, shock purchase or Raul Meireles there may be another shock transfer for a striker by tuesday.
Personally i would'nt like to See Carlton Cole at Anfield, Ricky Van Wolfwinkel would be a much better transfer.
And there may be a slight chance of Mario Gomez siging on loan, but certain he will not be bought.

Well I'm glad we are looking towards the likes of these players, Cole IMO isn't that bad, and would work with Torres - just not for backup as he needs that quality striker to assist and bring into the game. I think a lot of people are seeing exactly what you are and thinking the same thing, however I think we're bein fooled somewhat by the hope that an amazingly quick winger would somehow make the rest of the team that little bit quicker. Ive seen too often a good player come in and the rest of the team do nothing but pass to him for 90 mins. Speed isn't everything, even if we lack it so much. Our problems right nw are not having players who have the ability/ strength to hold a ball up. The lads we have are either getting tackled too often or plain wasting possesion. Once you see better hold up, youl see our midfield gamble more and show more attacking intent. Gerrards quite quick, and maxi and Kuyt arent SLOW per se. Jovano too (though hes a few games of the pace for now.) Joe Cole asnt really showed great hold up yet, Hes too eager to showcase his talent to win over the crowd. Sometimes you need to just hold the ball and let the team come forward together.
For me our hold-up up front and the ball-playing from CB are our twos biggest problems. We'l get width over the season with Aurelio and Konchesky supporting Jovano, and Johnson and Kelly running past Kuyt or Maxi or whoever. Hopefully Wilson can help adress the ball playing too because we seem to be hoofing it a lot. But you could argue the two are linked, with no viable forward passes Id probably go backwards too.
I know he's expensive for his age but after Konchesky the best signing for me, If 'arry dare sell him to us, would be bringing back Peter Crouch.He can play in Torres' stead. He did it before, he'd score a goal in two games running and Rafa would drop him for Voronin. No wonder he left. Id keed Ngog, though I wouldn't mind loaning him out. I think Babel Ngog Crouch and Torres could be a potent strikeforce. Id also make a point of telling Babel he wnt be seeing the wing again and I expected goals from him.

Just an observation more than anything.
insua does not have a squad number this season so it looks more than likely he will be leaving, espcially with the imanate signing of konchesky.
i know he was said to be part of a deal for Llorente which has said to be false but the story might have some legs.
another one might be Aguero. i know its an outside chance but transfer talks went quiet round insua just after Purslow was said to have been in Madrid speaking to a player. Not say that it will happen but it could be that he will be included in a deal for Aguero. Again just observations.
And when you think that Torres was happy to stay after seeing RH plans must mean that he will be partnered by a player of his liking i.e old striking partner or International striking partner.

Id love to see Roy bring in Andy Carroll & Marc Albrighton, these two are going to be world-beaters' scouts honour. Connor Wickham would be a great prospect, although we all know Liverpool wont/ don't gamble on such costly youth. Everybody concerned about having 8 homegrown (HG) players - it doesn't work like that. Actually, it is more a case that you can only have 17 players that are not HG. If you only have 5 HG players, the maximum size of your squad is 22, supplemented with any number of U21 players.
Actually dude the rule is you have to have 8 HG players in your squad no matter how big it is i.e. if you named a squad of 8 players, they would all have to be home grown.

I used to really appreciate being able to watch SSN and get all the latest 'real' transfer stories, but these days it seems like they know very little (for example they had not heard about meireles).
I think liverpool will buy another striker but it will not be carlton cole, SSN have taking a stab in the dark with a chance of getting it right so they can regain some credibility. Roy Hodgson has a big surprise up his sleeve and has been very careful with funds so there is enough to sign a world class striker to partner torres this season. When you think about it that is all we need to win games when we have Gerrard and Torres lurking around the box, we obviosly have a missing link. He said Sergio Aguero will have to hand in a transfer request tomorrow and will be given permission to talk to 'a' club before deadline day to keep the fans assured at Athletico that it was the players decision to leave. Liverpool will or has already put in a secret 27million Euro's bid for him and I can only assume that Sergio Aguero should be on his way to Anfield tomorrow and will be Liverpool's new number 7 this season. Don't expect to hear anything till deadline day and for those who think that we don't have that kind of funds think again. With a takeover imminent this season you would be surprised what kind of benefits that gives us as a club and as a attractive investment.
I hope this is true because that would be the kind of lift everyone at the club needs to get into the Champions League where we belong this season and believe me if that means spending alot of money to make sure we get there then by all means get it done becasue nothing is more important then that priority.

RH said that he want a striker with qualities like Torres who can play similarily to him when hes he not there! maybe Suarez isn't as unlikely as i thought as no one has heard of him in the press for a while but i doubt Babel wil leave as RH said that he hasnt had chances YET!
