hi all,just a comment, bit dissappointed with no major signings this Jan, but feel this was a huge vote of confidence in the present squad by KK & owners which can only have a positive response from what will now be a settled changing room who can set about the rest of the season without looking over their shoulders. best wishes to all, YNWA

Everyone keeps saying spuds had 6 players out.I thought you could only play players who were playing the game.So what if they were missing 6 players,we all have players either out on loan,suspended or injured but we have to put up with it.
We all can go on saying what if this,that or those players played but they didn't.

King luis

The point being that spurs still won with a very much weakened team

Ed001

With regards to Johnson, I also believe he is a defensive liabilty and would prefer Kelly at RB but why do you expect Johnson to leave as he is always first choice and which clubs have interest in him? {Ed001's Note - because he has a huge contract, the club have sounded out interest in him (Spurs were interested but not now!), and we have been chasing right backs around the continent.}

His contract is £90k a week, thats not that bad compared to other clubs in fairness... Johnson has been in good form lately and the only goals that have come from down his side of the pitch is because Gerrard has given the ball away while Johnson has been advancing forward. I repeat GERRARD gving the ball away, Gerrard has cost us goals since he's come back giving away posession too easily trying stupid passes instead of being the captain and setting the example of keeping the ball and building up play. Johnson i think has improved in his defensive duties, he's a lot more solid than he used to be. Granted Kelly is a better player defensively but is on way less wages than Johnson, i think Johnson is that bit better going forward and is a bit more of a goal threat. I dont expect Kelly to be first choice right back unless Johnson gets injured, Kelly IMO is primed for centre back. I think the Italian league has some real talent in the right back department.

Rocky {Ed001's Note - have you actually been watching him lately? Last season he was brilliant, this season he has gone back to the player who was far too busy pushing hair behind his ear to actually play football. The reason Gerrard has given the ball away is partly due to Johnson cutting inside and allowing the opposition to narrow their lines on top of Gerrard.}

I don't think we should buy a right back if Johnson goes, I think flanno should be second choice to Kelly but I do understand he has been training in midfield not sure why tho maybe a pace issue?

So Liverpool have had their ticket allocation cut for the Man Utd game. I could come on here & bitch like Sydney following his leader Rainfishtrombone & say it's sour grapes & they are doing it out of spite. Or actually believe that this was done strictly on a security issue. Well I'm not one for posting crap like those stupid mancs so on this occasion I think it's possibly sensible to have less supporting fans if it means the game going off peacefully.

Hi ed's and Macca :) isn't it time Raheem Sterling gets his chance on the first team soon? he was exellent against Tottenham in next gen series and has only been improving all the time the last year.. kk better give him a chance soon. looking forward to see him on the pitch for the first team! :D

Daniel91 {Ed001's Note - he will get a chance when he is deemed to be ready, but he is still just a kid. Some kids mature quicker than others, he is not a Rooney, who was built like a tank, he is slight and knocked off the ball fairly easily.}

He has bags of tricks and has lots of pace, all looks well and good against other Academy players but i fear if he tries these tricks against senior players or against teams like Stoke/Man United he'll get himself seriously hurt... I think he looks a great prospect and may get a chance in the last couple of games of the season but depends on our league position.

just saw kd buying a delorean so we might yet see transfers in the closed January window. but seriously I'm curious as the rule about ending contracts. could it not be technically done that a club pays another club to agree to end the contact of a player with their consent here go negating the transfer window?

Hi Eds seeing as you're constantly being asked questions you can't possibly know the answer to I want to ask you one you can answer what's your favourite colour? {Ed001's Note - Red.}

Hi eds
Will Suarez be able to play against Tottenham. If so it would be really good to see the old lad again

Cheers {Ed001's Note - yes.}

Ahoy - it would appear that "The Money Laundering England Manager Elect" was going to pay back the cash.

Just like Anthony Worrall Thomspon was going to drop the cash in to Tesco's.

Now here is a fact about Mr H Redknapp - he is a massive American Football (NFL) fan, and is looking forward to the Superbowl.

Which is a good job really, because whenhe goes to prison he will go in a TIGHT END and come out a WIDE RECEIVER.

Ed,
See the kids last night, how much roughly would them lads be on a week ?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - round about 5k a week I would expect, at the most.}

Kb, sir billy nick here, how goes it buddy? thought we did well last night mate, no carroll (gonna be a star), no kane, no fredricks, no bostock, no lancaster, and another kid with one of those names you have no way of spelling lol, thought you may have beaten us considering the six quality players we had missing

How much does it cost to run the academy per year, £1m, £2m ?
I was talking to a mate about this. Does it pay for itself, insofar as getting youngsters through to first team level or selling them on for transfer fees ?
You get a diamond or two through every generation saves 10's of millions. Gerrard, Owen etc etc.
I think Liverpool could have done a quiet but brilliant bit of business with that young Portuguese lad.
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - I am not sure how much it costs, the amounts are in the annual accounts, it was not much though, most of the costs are incurred in the creating of it.}

Is that all? Hardly enough to keep the wolves from the door. Be better off on the dole. RED LENIN (ps, just having a laugh)

Hiya SBN. Your keeper played a blinder mate, and a few last ditch tackles. You can see the style we're cultivating eh, cutting build up and then bollox up the finish ?
John Henry did say he admired Arsenal - looks like we've taken it too literally. I don't know anything of your kids tbh. Though they like an open game mate. Is it win 4-0 or lose 4-0 most weeks with them ?

Red Lenin,

Sorry mate the point I was trying to make was, he was stripped of England captaincy for sha€&ing his bests mates girlfriend, yet he is still captain after alledegly racially abusing a fellow playing in view of millions on national tv.

In my own opinion, the fa should drop him from all international matches until trial over, I feel he's been over protected by the fa, his possible fa charge should be separate to a legal a charge, give him a good lengthy ban , ie 12-15 matches , therefor ending his season and he would miss euros too by been dropped by fa.

If Suarez can be proved guilty by a lip reader , same applies to Terry, he's England captain , a role seen as world wide role of leadership , get the finger out fa and get it sorted , nearly 4 months since it happened , he deserves the book to be thrown at him, 12/15 match ban , without pay , bite him more than £2500 max fine he ll get

Rebel_Red {Ed001's Note - what happened to innocent until proven guilty?}

The case with Terry is now in the hands of the court and it is still innocent until proven guilty also can we please drop the Suarez talk now he has served his ban lets talk about his football and only his football

Suarez wasn't proved guilty by lip reader. He was proved guilty by admission and inconsistency. RED LENIN {Ed001's Note - actually he was not proved guilty, that is not true mate. They actually admit at the start of the report that they were going on probability of guilt, not proof.}

Shaving his best mates girlfriend?

Now with all the transfer gossip out of the way .I was listening to talk sport this morning and a guy called Paul fletcher from Burnley FC was talking about the pifalls of building new football stadium if you can get a chance to listen to his interview it made for good listening he was on andy grays show ,the point of the interview is that every team that has moved into a new stadium (with the exception of Man City who got rescued by the arabs) have struggled
Arsenal have not won anything since their move
Coventry have all but gone belly up
Huddersfield dipped for a long while the list goes on his final massage was Liverpool beware
just thought I would post to keep everyone awake till next transfer window

Would we fill a bigger stadium?

Man City weren't exposed to the building costs either as it was built for the Commonwealth Games. That's why Spurs/West Ham want the Olympic Stadium. In this economic climate we should stay at Anfield.

Not a rumour, but just heard out here in the states that utd have cut our tickets to just over 2000.
Sounds like a tit for tat thing, ohh well just no class that club no class

Magus

Its a game Fergie knows he must win
to stay the pace with city. But I just can't
see it happening, we have a much stronger side than man united and Fergie knows it. Suares will be up for that one as well.

"A much stronger side"

This explains why you are 16 points behind us in the premier league table. Jesus Christ, you lot win a couple of games and suddenly you think you are the best team in the world again lol. Ah well, when you lose against spurs I'm sure you will be screaming for kenny to be kicked out again.

CnM

Be a fierce game that's for sure. Got a red card written all over it. RED LENIN

And i bet there will still be more of us than real mancs in there,

Can you please post this for once? ive been trying to get it posted for a couple days now and i feel like the ed's ignore me.

Im guessing the Ed's are close to certain people at the club so my question is Assuming we make champions league. During the summer is there any way we could pull a "chelsea" and unsettle Gareth Bale with a substantial bid? Ive heard rumours that Harry Redknapp is the 1st in line for the England job. I believe this would make it easier for Tottenham to let their players go. Gareth Bale certainly meets the requiremnts set out by FSG. Would they be willing to pay 200,000 salary? Would Gareth Bale fancy a move to merseyside? {Ed001's Note - hahahaha seriously?}

And now i fully appreciate the madness the eds must go through every day, and there's me thinking that now the transfer window is closed the insanity would at least die down , oh well more fool me.

always a red

Gareth bale was on you tube slagging off liverpool before it was pulled, so no i dont expect bale to even consider a move

There is no way that FSG will pay anyone 200K a week. That would smash Liverpool's pay structure to smithereens. Apart from which Bale isn't class. Good but not class. RED LENIN

LOL Bale... LOL LOL too funny. Why would Bale leave a team chalenging for the title to go to Liverpool? LOL LOL LOL oh, to the poster who indicated bale is not that good... Bale is one of the best wingers in the world hence barca looking at him... Bale would not go to Liverpool, and you cannot afford his wages... simples.

PS Not a spurs, Manu or Everton fan.

Not a spurs, man u or everton fan.

but still a bellend.

We keep asking why we havent signed this player and that player but we have a depth of talent in the reserves that will be eased into the team gradually and we are recruiting more raw talent that can come to fruition, youve all been impressed with kelly ,flanagan and robinson so far just wait until Raheem sterling and morgan make the break plus suso ,coady i cant wait .
plus we are snapping up new youngsters on a regular basis.

Raheem sterling in the match against spurs u19 was superb,KK should play him against Brighton or put him on the bench because he can he the answer to our problems on the wings!

Joshlfc

Look spurs won the game with six regulars missing from the team! thats basically a reserve team that beat us

Sterling was magnificent wasn't he! Absolute electric pace, but with end product too. I think it's a bit early to say he's the 'answer' to our wing problems, but I think he deserves to be on the bench some time this season. Have you seen Ibe play yet? Looks like he could be as good as Sterling to me, and he plays down the right, so hopefully in a few years time we'll be spoiled for choice with wingers. -SH-

It was a reserve team that beat our reserves!

They have got to be kidding me changing the chelsea game to the 6th i was suppose to go for my 18th as a present but now its changed to sunday and liverpool may not even play then cause they might be in the final ... Flights and hotel already booked! S

Where does it say that?

The fa have decided to move all premier league matches scheduled for may 5 to sunday may 6 so they wont clash with the fa cup final like it did last year. S

I hope you'll have a much better 18th birthday present mate - watching us lift the FA Cup. Plenty of time to change flights and hotel to London ;)

Panic stations here lads,

Just got together with the new mrs shortly before Christmas, everything has been going great until I was mooching about in her kitchen yesterday and something caught my eye. Her newspaper of choice is.......the scum......feel physically sick saying it lol tried to explain why she shouldn't buy the paper but her not being a football fan doesn't really understand, she says she likes the gossip so she will still buy it.

Contemplating blowing up the sun HQ if there is no other alternative lol thoughts?

As its all gone quiet I was wondering whether anyone thought that if Rafa was in charge this season we would probably be further up the table?

I'm very happy with Kenny and would rather watch his style of football all day long, I also love the way he is bringing back the "Liverpool way," but I do believe that if Rafa was still in charge we'd probably be above Chelsea at this moment in time...even though we struggled to put the ball in the back of the net under him too?

dmedly

Rafa finished 7th in the league in his last season, knocked out of the FA cup by Reading, and one of his last signings was Jovanovich on a lucrative free transfer - what makes you think things were about to improve?

JRG

Its hard to say really are you asking how would rafa do with this team or if rafa had the same money to spend where would that team be

02 Feb 2012 18:26:21
ed or any1 that knows , wgat did mourinho mean when he said he would never manager liverpool because of personal reasons?tanx

He "personally" does not like Liverpool.

He's referring to the fact that I said to him "Personally Jose, I think you're a pr1ck and don't want you anywhere near us. Ever."

Sean

The fans would always worship
the club more than him.

Because he supports the club. at porto his phone background was lfc. maybe he doesnt want to hurt the club or something. wimp

Jose loves liverpool fc , we made a mistake trying to interview him in manchester the night he was preparing for porto v man u . we did not go back to interview him at the right time and we gave the job to rafa, but you make a mistake if you think he does not like us.

I just saw a stat that andy carroll, together w grant holt and clint dempsey, has the most number of headers on target so far this season.

That's pretty gd isn't it? I mean, he's only started a handful of games compared to the other 2 who play almost every game for their clubs.

I've got a gd feeling that all of us who have been saying 'andy will come gd' may be vindicated soon.

Don't quite know how to explain it but I just have this feeling that the big-man-small-man strike partnership kenny had in mind when he bought luis and andy is gonna happen soon. Very soon.

Hope it starts this wkend.

Suarez runs the defence ragged, andy batters them to smithereens... And then we bring on bellamy to make things worse for our opponeots.

And all this with gerrard coming to join in from deep.

Sounds like a plan, no?

Things could fall into place soon.

C'mon, u Reds!

Beat spurs, manu and arsenal and win the carling cup in feb!

Then kenny will be manager of the month, we'll hv a trophy, and we'll possibly be 4th(or v close!).

C'mon u Reds!

He ed's. Do you think that some of the reseves or youth like, Raheem Sterling or Morgan will be given a go in the first team anytime soon? Many thanks, {Ed001's Note - none of them are likely to get run outs unless we have injury problems, they are just not physically ready for the Prem. Maybe towards the end of the season or a couple might get to face Brighton.}

When situation like wolves match (3-0 up ) come last 10 minute can be tasted one of them. how old was Owen when he start the EPL match ?

After the Bolton defeat there was a few people on this site slating KK and even some clowns asking for him to be removed. I bet they are starting to feel a bit silly after a great week. The best thing is when we do have one bad result KK always knows how to get the best out of his squad.

I also cant believe some people were giving him a hard time about not signing anyone in Jan. At the end of the day nobody knows who was available at the right price plus jan is not a great time to buy and teams just panic buy which gets teams into a lot of trouble.

So i wonder if the people who have gave him hard time would come on here and apologise as i am sure they are enjoying having egg on there faces. Enjoy King Kenny being in charge we are so privileged to have him managing our great club.

Cheers
mighty reds

It was time for someone to wake Kenny up. Some of the fans on this site did that. Look at the difference of the team now!

Yea it was deffo the fans on here that woke him up as iv heard he's an avid reader of this site he's even mentioned in a few press confrences how he uses sites like this but mainly this one to pick his team or identify potential transfer targets im actually dissapointed he hasn't been on to say thanks to us all for showing him the light and waking him up to how terrible overall (bar this week) we have been because he definately wouldnt be coming on here to thank 50% of the fans that use this site during january for getting behind the team
my two cents

Hi all,
Some of the rumours on this site are so funny that I come on here just for a laugh sometimes. I don't know whether the rumours are from football manager or people not taking their medication but I take almost all rumours with a pinch of salt apart from Macca.
I work in the city and know quite a few people at Barclays Capital and they spoke to about 250+ people/groups during the Liverpool sale yet none made it here as these are rational people who know that a tentative discussion is way different from due diligence. As I have never heard of most of those names during the sale on this site I knew that most people were chatting rubbish.
I work for a high profile FX firm who have had a long standing relationship with NESV. We generally get enquiries from them quarterly but do get some ad hoc requests. Some of these are for vast sums of money and I could come on here to say they have the funding ready for the stadium but I don't as they are a large firm with other interests apart from Liverpool. The only time that a rumour has coincided with an enquiry from NESV one of their partners bought an Italian club.
In summary please be patient as NESV are a respected firm who have long term plan to make Liverpool successful.

I think Charlie Adam will be great. I think he has found it hard to step to the pressure of playing for a big club. He's been ok most of the time but when his confidence comes back we will see his potential being realised. I believe that support from the supporters (!) is crucial to this happening as he seems to thrive when there is a good relationship with the fans. You can see he is a bit lost and frustrated at the moment even though he's doing ok, but he knows himself he can do better. I believe in you Charlie! {Ed016's Note - if the fans got behind him then he would perform better, the whole team performs better, we have to make Anfield a fortress again through the fans, we need it to be as loud as it possibly can all game}

Forgot to sign ( Dara D). I agree ed. thanks for responding. The last few seasons of underachievement and dull football knocked the stuffing out of the fans so its understandable to a degree that its been so quiet at Anfield at times as it is hard to build up the atmosphere again. But there no reason why the 12th man effect cant return on a more consistent level as we have a team and a manager and owners we can believe in.

Its not possible for 90 mins without l;osing your voice, probably end up with tonselitus

I tell you something, his through balls have been spot on in the last few games, especially those diagonal ones across the box. Trying to be constructive though, one thing he needs to improve on is when he has those boss little runs in and around the box. He just needs to look up a bitt and realise when there's a better option than taking on one player too many or taking a pointless shot at a crowded area. He could have played the big man in for an almost certain goal if he'd just played the right ball the other night. But don't worry about Charlie, he's a good player. The other thing is his tackling; he could learn a lot from Jay Spearing there.

Sean

Charlies proven his quality with some of his long balls and crosses like against wolves to set up andy and his ball to Johnson against chelsea was pure class! He was a great buy for what he cost!

While I agree with Dara D to an extent; Charlie Adam is a very good player, and will improve; its hard to justify a player not performing because he is not receiving enough support from fans. While fan support has an effect on players, and especially on collective team morale. Individual underperformance can not be so easily or wholly attributed to lack of support from fans. The reality is that Adam has suffered from the lack of a defensivly minded midfielder, and his dip in form coincided with Lucas' injury while his improvement against Wolves coincided with Spearing's return to the side.

On a related issue, this forum seems to cloud the judgement of some of its contributors, who confuse the imbecilic meanderings of the majority of posters here, with the positive sentiments of the majority of off-forum fans, especially those who attend the matchs.

Manchester United have cut Liverpool's ticket allocation for next week's Premier League game at Old Trafford by almost a third. In what may be considered a tit-for-tat move United bosses have cut the number of tickets given to their rivals for the Saturday game from 3,100 to 2,100.

United officials say the decision has been made for safety reasons after talks with the police and Trafford council and say that it will allow for extra stewards. But many will see it as a direct response to Liverpool reducing the ticket allocation to United's travelling support on their last two visits to Anfield.

Last October United were given 1,965 tickets instead of the usual 3,015. Officials on Merseyside cited persistent standing and the blocking of aisles and gangways as the reason behind the move.

How childish can one club be? I reckon if we're leading at half time Fergie might take the ball away and say he isn't playing any more.

JRG

We cut their allocation so what have we got to moan about? Let's get the lads to do our talking on the pitch!

LJ

So we cut already then can't complain.

We'll just have to repay the compliment by outsinging their Prawn Sandwich brigade and cutting their title chances into tatters. Let's empty their stadium after 75 minutes again.

I'm banking on Luis turning their boos into goals. I wouldn't bank on Luis turning Ferguson's booze into goals though - we'd win about 200 - 0 :o)

Sean

The two replies are missing the key point: They have 30,000 more seats than us..

Stu.

Their allocation was cut because they continually stood during matches and blocked aisles. They were warned they would have their allocation slashed if they continued. Liverpool were not the only club to cut down the ticket allocation to United for this reason.

United are cutting our allocation out of bitterness, not safety reasons.

JRG

Exactly Stu. Pro Rata we are giving them a greater share than they are giving us. RED LENIN

Precisely RED LENIN. That was the word i was looking for mate!

If we've got 1,000 tickets fewer than usual, it'll just mean it's a bit quieter in London that weekend.

I personally believe if Kenny can get Carrol an Suarez playing as an effective partnership in a 4-4-2 formation, we will secure the coveted fourth spot. We wil be able to mix and match our game plan playing through the middle with Suarez making his runs, or playing it out wide with crosses getting bombed in for Carrol. A good attacking partnership goes a long way to making your midfielders look good, and all these perceived weakness within the squad will disappear. We've got a good squad and I for one am chuffed we didn't make rash buys in January. Kenny needs to get these guys operating to there full potential, or else he needs to step aside, because that's what he is paid for.

With the added bonus of Bellamy who can be brought on as an impact sub for either of them or in place of a midfielder in a 4-3-3

That was by me by the way. RED LENIN

With terrys case being put back till after the European championships ( conveniently ).

Do you think terry will retire from international football so that the FA don't have to strip him of his captaincy.

Seems to me the FA have dodged a bullet.......

How can you say Newcastle wont get stronger as the season continues. They have Ba back, they have Tiote to return and dont forget they have bought Cisse who is a tremendous player. So dont write the Geordies off yet, they are above us on merit.

02 Feb 2012 15:22:21
Ed's thanks for all your work this transfer window, just one question for you. Why was suarez banned for 8 matches.. but Terry is not banned yet so late in this crucial part of the season, where it could really help our top 4 chances? {Ed002's Note - The FA will only charge Terry once his court case has been heard. I have not posted on here since the summer window just gone. Glad the winter window is now closed as I was fed up of all the silly rumours all the the ITKs's on twitter who get your hopes high !

Anyway, considering the current squad, what positions do you thing we will strenghthen in the summer ie and how many players do you think we will bring in realistically ? Also who do you think we will let go/well in sumer ?

Gonna be a busy summer I think ,not as busy as summer gone though.
Look forward to your thoughts

Raks

Reply would be nice Eds {Ed016's Note - summer is too far away to tell, to be honest.}

I genuinely have no idea, why there is such negativity on this site at the minute, so i'd like to adress a few things:

1) - Whomever believes King Kenny should get the sack is the personification of 'fallable'. In other words, they are completely wrong, wrong and wrong. Kenny has lead us to a cup final, a quater final in another cup, and we're 6th in the league at the minute. I'd much rather be 4th definitely, but that's football. We're on a very good run and if we carry this on with other teams like Chelski dropping points, then the season is our oyster.

2) - Carroll is just starting to come into form for Liverpool, he played superbly against Scum-united, and scored the pivital first goal against wolves. So why on earth are fans criticing him STILL even when he plays well? It's truly, bemusing. I would not swap Carroll for Darren Bent, or Marcus Bent for that matter (haha), so get behind the lad!

3) - Jordan Henderson is still very young, and is still getting used to life in Liverpool, so far he's done nothing wrong, and several things right, so lay off of the kid.

4) - Who cares if we didn't get a signing? We got Luis Suarez back, that in itself is the equivilent of a 30m striker surely? Are you people that stupid?

5) - People who disrespect the Eds are complete anus', who need to have their internet removed, and to be locked in their own home until they see the errors of their ways.

To sum up this post, all 6 points tend to be covered by the same small minority of idiots. I apologise to the rest of you fans for having to bore you with this post, but to the minority of fans, I suggest you think long and hard on what the definition is of 'supporter'.

Thanks all,
YNWA
Hooch.

Great post but you need to learn to count we're in last 16 of F.A cup quarters are next and theres only 5 points not 6 lol..But apart from them 2 deliberat mistakes to check whos reading I agree with what you say
Carlos79
-

Not in the quarters yet mate but i would expect us to beat Brighton and advance to the next stage. I would agree with the rest of what you said tho.

Lazy Lad

In my opinion the bulk of the negativity on the site comes from "supporters" who have never watched our team play in the flesh.They are the Sky/pub T.V/PC watchers who want instant success and have not grown up queuing for tickets,getting piss wet through on open terraces and singing hearts out getting behind the team.

They wont remember a time when if you didnt go to watch the match you were lucky to see ten minutes of highlights on MOTD or on Granada on Sunday.
Everything in life is not a quick fix and if you are not here for the journey pick another team to support without paying to watch them I am sure they would love to have some more moaning b######s on board.
Derek

Derek, you should know that not all Liverpool fans can make it to Anfield regularly. It has been a few years since I've been but I have been a fan about 80% of my life. I could of easily switched teams and supported someone down south, but no other club interests me apart from Liverpool. We are a great club and thats the reason we have such a diverse and massive fan base. Just because not everyone can afford to watch us play week in week out, doesn't make us any less of a supporter.

Our squad is getting better and stronger as the season progresses, the team is starting to gel.
Chelsea, arsenal and Newcastle won't get stronger or better as the season continues. Arsenal and Newcastle will implode as soon as van persie or BA get injured. Too reliant on there goals. Chelsea just don't look solid at all to me. None of these teams overhauled the squad in the summer so are settled and none really strenthened in January.
And it will be interesting to see if tottenham can continue to take there good form right to game 38.
The likes of downing, Carroll, Adam and Henderson will be better in the second half of this season. Plus we now have gerrard back fit.
Top 4 will be close but I think we will get it.
Even if we get smashed by spurs again.

MIKEY

I hope that we will get at least one point from the Spurs match. It will be very tough. The team seems to gel. But top four will be very tough with Arsenal and Chelski as opponents. I like your optimism and I hope you're right.
Fingers crossed
marc

They could be missing vdv but they have plenty of cover.
but i can see our guys being up for it.
k-h

Apparently VDV will be fit.

I don't do this "oh they're a good team, I'll be happy with a point" nonsense. We're going to spank them so hard they'll go into hiding like a Crouchie bonus - end of story.

Sean

Good man Sean! Spurs are in great form , but are not a great team ..yet. they might be fighting for fourth yet.

Defoe,van Der vart,adebeor (spelling),walker,lennon,Dawson are all injured and will be doubts! So I think we can easily beat them and its at afield!

Joshlfc

Damn, wished they'd play Walker. Absolutely shocking football player, a faster Glen Johnson with less ability all round. Just cause he plays for the spuds suddenly he's the best RB in the world...

If we had'nt of lost to Bolton...Would we have won the last 3 games? Conspiracy theory? Or did the team need one of kennys size 7's up their arse.

I believe the Bolton loss was a victory indespise.

afternoon all,
macca you said you believed we'd only sign a striker if anyone at all and then said when we didnt sign one they couldn't get who they wanted,i dont doubt your info at all one bit. i just wondered if you knew who it was they were looking to sign after the lad from inter fell threw or was it only him we went in for? i applaud your patience with some of the mongs on here that abuse you when something falls threw,the vast majority of us appreciate the info you share.

Just wanted to no if people rate Jay spearing because I do. Zaydan123

I think you cant fault him. Its just a question now if he can be great and consistent and only a long run in the side will give him a chance to be that.

To be honest he reminds me of mascherano no fear with his tackling what a player he's going to be.

ACHILLES.

Spearing is a good little chief like Javier M. but he's never going to be a monster like Michael Essien. {Ed016's Note - how do you know? He did a pretty good job on Tuesday, he is very very young still and will only get better in that position with age and learning the game more and more}

Thats true ed, but he's not still growing...

Ash {Ed001's Note - he can still improve, he has shown a huge improvement already.}

Ed016 needs glasses and big ones. Essien is a huge big F****R Spearing by comparison is small in size. Definition of Monster is usually someone that is of greater proportion than normal size, even with buckets of human growth hormone spearing will not turn into Essien. Football wise might both be equally effective who knows, but many footballers no doubt would prefer to be chased by Spearing than Essien.

Eds I think the point was that he isn't going to be 6"2 and ram players over, like an Essien, but as a DM he'll be better as he can tackle alot more and has a never say die attitude. Also his passing is improving.

Let's say Spearing gets as good as we think he can, does this mean he will compete with Lucas when he's fit or would they play with each other ? They're both about the same age so they'll always be competing ... I'd be so confident of winning if both played if they became slightly more creative, these are players Arsenal and United crave so we should be thrilled to have 2 of them! NexGenRed

02 Feb 2012 14:14:20
spurs are our bogey team we need to beat them come on the reds

Only team to come to anfield and win since dalglish retook the helm.
lets not let them repeat that! x

Luka modric simply loves playing against us. Im afraid if he does it again, we r gonna struggle. Cant count out bale either. if we win, it will be a tight finish, otherwise spurs will probably win.

With reference to the redevelopment of Anfield or the buiding of a new stadium on Stanley Park can anyone or the any of the eds confirm that Liverpool FC were offered the chance of a new 50,000 seater stadium in the mid to late 1990s, to be built with the help of the local authorities and private organisations overlooking the River Mersey (docks) with Liverpool FC contributing what looks now like a modest £30m, but the idea was rejected by David Moores, Rick Parry and the Board because they believed the amenities around the ground were not suitable i.e parking etc.

It was at kirkby golf course , but it was a shared option with the blue noses.

02 Feb 2012 13:37:13
We have just beaten Wolves 0-3 with goals from Carroll, Bellamy and Kuyt.
We have just beaten Manchester United in the FA Cup.
We have just knocked Manchester City out of the League Cup.
There is no reason for us to fear anyone, with Suarez and Gerrard now both available.
It appears to me that Kenny's criticisms after the Bolton debacle has really got to the players, leading to three good performances.
Let's get behind the team for Monday night against Tottenham and Saturday against United.
Six points from these games must be possible and will put us right back into the mix for 4th spot.
Positive thinking... Northern Git

Just like the Man City match the atmosphere needs to be electric. Another one of those Anfield nights.

Lets just hope that the performance continues and we destroy spurs at anfield. we have had bad luck against them, but now it is payback time. suarez and gerrard back in the team :)

I have no doubt there will be a good athmosphere as it is a night game. Its got to continue on to the saturday and sunday games as well when the less 'glamorous' sides visit. Jordan Henderson recently mention the difference in the atmosphere in the last two home games and how it translated onto the pitch. The twelfth man thing is a real thing, but has to be applied .

02 Feb 2012 13:06:17
Never mind the Bent/Carroll swap rumours, wouldnt it be great to swap him with Torres? I do.

Give it a rest. You realise Andy Carroll has scored more goals than Torres, since there respective transfers, right?

More goals in less games...

02 Feb 2012 13:05:01
If liverpool loose to cardiff i think Kenny might get sacked the same night

Why do you even support football, yo'd be better off reading Heat magazine to find out who's stepping out with who.

You can't spell 'lose' & you probably don't know where Cardiff is.

dd

You sir are a muppet.
MarkR

Do you know i think this points needs dwelling on - the suggestion here is that we absolutely definitely should beat Cardiff and Cardiff will role over and play dead because they should bloomin' well know their place.

Come on now? Cup finals are not simple affairs - just look at Birmingham/Arsenal last year. Players get excited, players get nervous. There really is no 'should' in football. 'Could' is a much better word.

I am certain the players will give it their all and i am pretty sure Kenny will try his best to win this - a cup in his first full season back is no mean feat. But if we all start believing that the cup is ours - full stop - smacks of an arrogance that isn;t right.

Show some respect to Cardiff - they are not a shabby team.

Just my 10p worth...

Joff

02 Feb 2012 13:04:05
If we don't finish in the top 4 then the owners would have to look at themselfs for not buying any players
instead of blaming the manager who got us in a cup final.

Why do the owner need to look at themselves, they do not choose who to buy this is down to Kenny and Damien. And I am sure they had a look at players but obvisouly felt they were to expensive or not going to add anything to the team. Ross

Whats is this guy talking about at all!

hey guys, quick question, who would you like to be liverpools next captain? Im struggling to choose between Reina, Agger and Lucas, and potentially Hendo in a couple of years.

BADGER

I would probably go in that exact order

Lucas
-SH-

Forgot Spearing

BADGER

Carrol

For me it'd have to be Lucas, although Agger would be an adequate vice-captain. Liverpool are very lucky in the respect of how many leaders we have in the dressing room.

Thanks,
Hooch.

Luis suarez

If we're talking about four years down the line then I think Martin Kelly will be the next captain of Liverpool.

Hugh Pugh.

Who cares - its stevie and will remain that way for another 4 yeears at least.

Carroll swap for Bent - this will happen in Summer.

We do not want Bent. We want a quality striker

Carroll stays. He will overcome.

We have quality strikers one is back next week and Carroll is getting better he is young, given too much money and fame at Newcastle which we are now getting his head straight. A happy off the pitch is a happy player on it. Give him time and look at how disappointed he is if he doesn't get the ball or doesn't score he wants it more than us. Cmd

02 Feb 2012 12:39:54
I know he's gone and we move on, but just watched the 81 goals of a certain FT. Left foot, right foot, headers and 80% of them were with him collecting the ball in the final third, just what we're lacking now. I hope and pray Big Andy comes good, but he will NEVER match our former No.9.

FT, what have you done lad?

Left for the plastics and the lure of the mighty dollar.

You once had 45,000 behind you,

Now you must BOUNCE alone...

LJ

FT was a delight to watch and I for one will never feel bitter about his time at the club... just enjoy the goals

The truth is - something has changed in his game and I can't see how he's ever going to return to that level at this stage. (He could prove me wrong but something's different about his play)

He lacks the belief to do what he did for us and I think he may of lost a yard of pace. Which again will make him lose faith in his self. I was upset when he left but that was his decision and I do wish he finds his touch again but not against us ;) will always remember his goals against united :)

I was going to post this too earlier today saw his 81 goals for us boy was genius.....anyway show goes on with luis and andy!!

Torres lost Gerrard

good afternoon eds

hearing the stadium announcement will be made at the end of the season with work starting October this year.

the delay in making the announcement now is that the sponsor for the stadium want to wait till the end of the season to stop taking talk from the players as we hit a crucial part of the season

as anyone else heard anything as well.

who is going to be next Manager? Low of Germany ?

abcd.

Did you get this of bleacher reports they had ten possible replacements for kk yesterday or the day before i wouldnt worry about it kk will be her for a good few years yet
giblet

It would help if you told us which team you supported before we help you find them a new manager.

JRG

Steven Gerrard, after another 10 years
of King Kenny, Stevie will learn the ropes in the embassadors role and then take over from Dalglish. The Shankly spirit and the Liverpool way will live on.

Amen

If, heaven forbid, Kenny does leave, i'd take Rafa back
Kenny2

KK won't be going anytime soon, so there's not much point talking about this one. I must say that I do not see Stevie G or Carra being a good manager though. I love them both as players, but you need a good team spirit for success and I don't know that SG would provide that, and Carr would just be screaming at everyone. Got a feeling Hyppia might be a good manager one day...
-SH-

What a crock of old pony

No one drives on a team Like Stevie G.

The comments of some here are getting more silly every day!

No one displays more passion and heart on the field than Gerrard.

Well lost to Tottenham so many people will want Kenny's head.

It worries me to read these posts about lack of ambition, doubts about what the team can achieve this season and the need for marquee signings.

Yes we did pay a lot for a few players and over the odds but we have them now so let's support them and the team.  As for a side that most believe isn't good enough we have reached a cup final still in the FA Cup, which in recent years we are long gone by now, and there is still a chance of the top four.

We have to give players and management time to settle in, get their views across and for the team to bond together.  Which apart from Bolton game I think they are and you can see from the training photos the lads are a group that gets on well and enjoying being at Liverpool.

The time to judge and rethink on players would be in the summer when the season is finished and we can see how we have done.

Going back to the January transfer window has many people forgot that money spent in that window will be taken into account by the financial rules that are being bought in. That's why Man City haven't splashed the cash as there know that they don't bring enough money to cover spending £100m in one window .

Over the past 6 months plus we have bought in youth players and instead of massive signings plus massive wages why don't we see how these players progress.  We already have talents waiting to get their chance and we if buy these ready-made superstars when will these lads get a chance to show what they can do.

Could you honestly say that if Jamie Carragher was 18 again he would be getting into the squad? He benefited from getting a long run in the side and therefore became the player he is today. But in the early years you would have said let him go not good enough.  This can be said for Lucas a player that 99% of the fans thought he was rubbish and nowhere near being good enough! But look how much we miss him and being the fans player of last season says it all.

The young lads need time and experience and bringing in these mega stars(so called mega stars) stops the growth of these talents.  I am not saying youth always works and that we should go to the extreme that Arsenal have but I mixture of young, ambitious lads with the experience lads.

People may disagree with the above but whatever we feel about transfers, team, management, owners etc.
We asked for new owners, we asked for KK, we asked for new players & we asked for a stable club so haven't we got that?
So shouldn't we just get behind Liverpool and show the rest of the world what brilliant fans we are and what Liverpool Football Club is about, Family! We stick together and you will never walk alone.

Great post

Great post,
your post changed my views a lot

It's still in our own hands to get 4th place too.

Just watched the highlights from last nights NextGen and it seems a shame the lads didn't get through - some pretty decent performances from quite a few of the players (and i'll include Ngoo in that - ok he didn't score with some "easy" chances - but there was some great hold up play).

The person I would like to mention though is none other than young Mr Sterling; just an observation but he seems much taller - obviously still growing; especially in comparison with the 5 goals against South End clip (that i seem to watch too often on youtube). I kind of wanted to raise this, in a sense to err towards caution - clearly a top player for his age, clearly growing and hopefully will mature into a top - top full 1st teamer.

However if he is rushed surely there is chance of burnout, especially if he's still maturing (physically and mentally). I guess this is true for all the U19s.

How many really young players make it big and then go onto set the world alight for a full career? Owen? Arguably burnt out/injured by mid 20s. Walcott? Arguable that he's world class. Rooney? Perhaps - but its not like he sets the league on fire each year. And rarely performs on an international stage.

Messi? Kind of a once in a lifetime player (please don't think I am putting pressure on Raheem to be up there with Messi - but i do believe he could be a great player, John Barnes like, or McManaman like with his little thumbs out when he runs)

Obvious point, but wanted to make it.

Ta

Joff

Look at wilshire aswell. Too much too soon

Good point that about not rushing sterling through while he's still physically developing,it makes me wonder if that's want went wrong with owen as he got older.
paul d

Here's a name for you still a world class player after 14 years in the first team came through the acedemy.

Take a bow Stevie G. {Ed016's Note - He is going to have an immense last couple of months of the season I tell you. He will storm the Euros too when he gets the armband}

02 Feb 2012 11:39:23
So according to Opta statistics Pepe Reina has created more goal scoring opportunities for his team-mates than any other keeper in the league.

We all knew he had the best distribution in the league but this just helps to prove the point. It's funny because I'm sure I remember some rival fans coming on this site and saying their new £18m goalkeeper had better distribution. But then they also said he was world class so what do they know.

Also, surprisingly, Andy Carroll has the joint number of headers on target this season. He has nine making him level with Grant Holt and Clint Dempsey. Presumably this doesn't include his headers against the bar?

02 Feb 2012 08:36:34
Well I said previously FSG would'nt support KK in Jan, this is because they want to bring in their Manager.
Ho much do you think he will get to spend?

FSG did'nt wnat Kenny & they will ensure he fails, Yes he spend but mosy of it was recouped by Fernado etc. Loads OFF the wage bill, CR** in keep the wage bill down.

Let's see if this get posted Ed, great site by the way

Gee, you're full of hate aren't you?

McSnuggles

Yup, it did get posted, which is unfortunate for you because we all now think you're an idiot.

dd

B*lloks.If FSG wanted to bring in their own man surely they would of brought him in last year rather than give KK his contract

How can you come out and say that FSG want Kenny to fail?? FSG are a business! I've never heard of owners wanting their business to fail!! You speak carp! FSG have supported Kenny on so many different levels they've let Kenny come in and basically change the whole dynamics of the Liverpool setup! Just because Kenny refuses to pay high wages and high fees on players that don't want to play for the club! Alot of people slate Kennys buys but I think Henderson is developing nicely, Adam well with another 2 assists from the wolves game! People need to stop all this hate and support the club, support the players, support the manager! I for one feel privlaged that my father taught me the right from wrong and that's why I chose Liverpool! Well not chose I'd have been homeless from the age of 7 if I'd have supported any other team!

Runcorn Red!

So. because Kenny did no business he's not wanted? Very funny.. Did Man Utd (team you most likely support), Arsenal, City do much big deals? No, Why? because the managers are happy with their squads just like Kenny and it proved that against Wolves on Tuesday with SG and LS at home watching on waiting in the wings for next Monday.

Corkpoolred

If KK wasn't wanted do you think FSG would have given him a 3 year contract and provided £60m to spend in the summer? Whilst I would have loved for us to make further additions in this window, I can fully understand not buying players now.

RedSG

The owners want their business to fail? I thought we were taken over by Tom Werner and John W Henry. I didn't realise it was all a dream and we were bought out by Gerald Ratner. My mistake, so thanks for pointing that out.

It's amazing now so many years on since Shankly built Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. I was reading a few of the great man's quotes and realized how many of these a relevant today and how Kenny has took the club back to the way it was built to be run have a look and see;

"For a player to be good enough to play for Liverpool, he must be prepared
to run through a brick wall for me then come out fighting on the other side." (This is Suarez at the minute with all the negative press this lad has recieved yet he seems to continue to want to fight)

"If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be" (Andy Carrol on this one for me. When he wants and throws his weight around we've all seen the advantage he can give us.

"If you are first you are first. If you are second, you are nothing." (Kenny has adopted this attitude with the squad and everyone around the club)

"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules,
but they do not know the game." (Never has a man spoken so many words of wisdom even today with all the technology we have they still don't know or understand passion and commitment on the field)

Please any one add any more if you wish but thought i'd throw some funny ones in to lighten the mood in here.

"Of course I didn't take my wife to see Rochdale as an anniversary present.
It was her birthday. Would I have got married in the football season? Anyway,
it was Rochdale reserves."

At Dixie Dean's funeral: "I know this is a sad occasion but I think that Dixie
would be amazed to know that even in death he could draw
a bigger crowd than Everton can on a Saturday Afternoon."

After beating Everton in the '71 cup semi: "Sickness would not have kept me away from this one.
If I'd been dead, I would have had them bring the casket to the ground,
prop it up in the stands and cut a hole in the lid."

There's just too many great quotes from the legend himself to list here mate:

- "This City has two great teams. Liverpool and Liverpool reserves"

- "If you're not sure what to do with the ball, just pop it in the net and we'll discuss your options afterwards."

- "Denis Law could dance on eggshells."

- "Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless, who strove and worried so that others could share the glory, and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say, 'We're Liverpool'."
[a personal favourite]

Cuchulainn's Hounds {Ed001's Note - wasn't the pop the ball into the net quote by Paisley?}

Ed001, I'm almost certain he said it to Ian St. John mate...

Cuchulainn's Hounds {Ed001's Note - Paisley was there then you know mate! But I am not 100% sure myself, so I will take your word for it.}

Either way Ed001, a great quote from either of two legendary LFC managers!

Cuchulainn's Hounds {Ed001's Note - very true. Two of the greatest managers of all time.}

Eds, who do you feel is the slowest, and the fastest player in our squad? And who has the highest transfer value? :D Just wondering, I'd like to know. {Ed016's Note - Slowest probably Carra, Fastest Bellamy and I would say Gerrard is Priceless so it would cost silly money to take him away}

dammit eds why didnt u get the paperwork done for the cavani transfer

:P {Ed016's Note - we were trying to push through 4 deals before the window closed however there were about 80 posts a minute to publish and your guys questions were way more important than getting Cavani signed, pitty, we just needed a pen that would work, but you know you can never find one when you need it most}

Glad transfer window is over ( so is the wife ). Now we can concentrate on the rise of the reds and supporting the king. I feel we have got so much to look forward to and the carling cup can be a nice little stepping stone, but please lads do not underestimate Cafdiff. We are now nearly able to field our strongest side apart from Lucas so not buying anybody is not the end of the world. Any news on stevie for Monday eds? This site is just too addictive!

Gally {Ed016's Note - Gerrard and Suarez will start}

Too addictive is an underestimated

Hi eds and fans I think that we should bring back the old boot room, since we changed it to the press room we have not won the league what do you think eds?
I asked at anfield about incase we go to Stanley park what would they do about the grass area in anfield due to a lot of people's ashes being on it , they said it would remain as a memorial garden, for sure.
Hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - I don't think it matters, it was the people in it that made it special.}

If only we could bring them back. our king is doing well and I support him completeley and always whatever the result.

not buying players i think was the best for the club.
It will bring confidence for the players.

In Summer Mr Henry will Spend and big in GREAT PLAYERS, its obvious a Right Winger, a good Right Back and Striker (who i hope will be better than AC)

Have Faith in the club, 1 year has FSG and look, the club is at carling cup, alive in FA CUP, and at less of 6 points from CL spot. And We Play Against Chelsea and Arsenal AT HOME.

GOOD TIMES ARE BEGINNING
THE ARISE OF THE KOP IS NOW
AND THE LEAGUE SOON WILL BE OURS.

Hi eds...just a question..why is terry hasn't been ban like suarez due to his racist row? {Ed001's Note - because he is in the middle of a criminal prosecution, the FA can not act until that is completed.}

02 Feb 2012 02:08:15
why hasn't there been more hype of suarez ban finally being over? i think with him in the team we can beat spurs at our best

I agree with you mate. hopefully we thrash spurs. with suarez back, it will give the team a boost :)

Suarez is over rated.

We should cash in on him in the summer while we can and find a striker who knows how to put the ball in the net.

I'd imagine we want the hype over Suarez quietened down, let his football do the talking.

Over rated! are you insane? or just a Man Utd fan?

No Just a Liverpool supporter who see's suarez as he is "over rated" as an analogy you could use the emperor's new clothes.

Suare has a bag of tricks no doubt but his strike record in goals is similar to Heskey.

Daft comment. Maybe you should look at the way he contributes to the team as a whole. I'm sure any of our players would say they don't care if they score or not, just as long as the team is scoring and winning.

Felt bitterly disappointed for Rodolfo and the boys tonight as they exited the NextGen series, I personally thought they "battered" Tottenham but unfortunately it would appear the under 19's have the same inherited the same problem as the first team - a difficulty in finding the back of the net.

Raheem Sterling was immense, he definitely put on a good show on his return to London (albeit not West London), all it lacked was a goal!

Unlucky lads as I really thought you could go all the way!

summer is a long way off and depending on were we finish in the league like 4th then next summer will be theone were we get back to were we belong and we will attract better players , kenny and the new owners know what they are doing , and up to now we cant complain , were in 1 final and within shouting distance of 4th , but i am waiting for next summer to see who we get , thanx for all your work EDS it was fun {Ed001's Note - cheers mate, I just hope we go on a good run until the end of the season now. Sod the transfer window, let's win some trophies!}

Spot on ed001 , lets forget about summer , we are at the buisness end of the fixtures , we in a good place and thats with suarez missing games and gerrard being out , the team might be starting to click , or kenny has realised we need to play to carrols strenghts , either way , he is starting to come good , suarez has had the rest he needed and gerrard should be reaching his match fitness , all in all its better than expected , beating the 2 manchester sides and knocking them out of the cups , its gong to be very interesting til may,,,,,,,,,,,,mickyb.,,,,,,,,y.n.w.a.

I love the January transfer window and the excitement it brings. You forget that there are some games in the month as well. Roll on January 2013! And the way they are going, I'm predicting the Mancs and Arsenal will be both be in a battle to lure Frank Stapleton out of retirement.
