We need to take chances on these flair players. Ok sometimes they dont turn out great e.g. Ryan babel but other times they double/treble/quadrouple in value e.g. Ronaldo, adam johnson (who has hardly played for man city yet his value is more than double what they paid), victor moses, diego capel, gaston ramirez etc etc. Imo zaha of crystal palace is never going to be world class but he is what adam johnson was, and moses and in 4 years time he will be worth what they are now, so take a chance. Not necisarily on zaha but these types of players. Ok, rant over. Jayo.

When in our football clubs history have we managed to buy a flair player and then sell him on for double what we paid for him?

It is always the case we buy a player for inflated price mess him up in some way and sell him on for massive lose (apart from Torres, Alonso who where world-class)

We need a better scouting network at Liverpool. our scouts fail to see value and potential

Sick of these Victor Moses comments, Diego Capel Gaston Ramirez and imo Adam Johnson, justify a hike in value, but, what has Moses done, imo, hes no where near LFC quality.

Whats all this crap about how its going to take us at least 10 years to build a good national team? Italy have gone from finishing bottom of their group behind new zealand at the world cup, to finalists of he european championship. I make that 2 years. Amd these 'pumdits' go on about how germany realised they have to change after their dissapointed euro 2000, amd how its beginning to show 12 years later. But didnt theuy reach the final of the world cup in 2002? To me its obvious that the coach has a big ipact on how a team does and what did they expect when appointing hogson?

Mate, just accept it, English players aren't good enough.

Chris in Tamworth

You seem to forget they won the world cup in 2006, the foundations were in place they just had to replace the old guard, it's the same system

Its luck and more luck for them. They are not a great footballing nation.

Pirlo Great player
Mario Balotelli mental case/youngest player
Italian defend for their lives

Not much in that team. England really have to look to play a more grown up style at international. The days of 442 and counter attacking football just don't cut it at that level.

Its was the only move for England with those situation and they played to the best of their abilities with what time and resources they had. Roy is the wrong man for England if he thinks England can continue with his 442 forever

The players nationally. I think the 24 man squad in the English football is a good thing and bigger clubs like Liverpool will have to convert back to English playing squad and bring players like Sterling into the team.

A lot of talent isn't given the chances that they may of been given if we didn't have so many foreign players and ect we wouldn't of been as good as we are today without them. They have improved English football and upped the level of football in this country. We have the best of the best playing for us at club level.

We know what every other country has because half of them come from the premiership they take our style of football with them eg sweden.

But what England really lack at this moment in time is a real ball player in the middle of the park, Someone like Cleverly at man utd, a guy that will move that ball in a positive way and we can start to play a passing game. keeping the ball though passing is the key to success, counter attacking and defensive play will get you so far.

Roy Hodgson has shown this with smaller clubs and smaller nations. His style of play will get results up to a point and he has been very successful in employing his style of 442 around the world.

It will get a team out of the group stages and into the final 16 stage, but winning it would take more. His time at fulham and his run at europa cup showed the success and limitations of his tactics.

If will only ever get you so far and if you have average players then it is the best formation for that team. I think Englands quality of players has improved some since 1996. We are getting a some good ball players.

You can't even Italy and England mate, they are leagues above us.

Mate, you can't even compare Italy and England.
Italy are stylish and determined, with quality players all round.
England, well!.
Get over it already.

Italy always have great central defenders that will push high up the field with the goalkeeper sweeping therefore allowing the midfield players to perform. Whereas England always have 2 big slow lumps in the centre of defence that play with a fear of "The ball in behind them!" so they drag the whole team towards our own goal. As an example John Terry was only any good with the intelligent and pacy Carvallho alongside him.
England need to play a centre back with a defensive midfield player alongside so we are able to play higher up the pitch and give our midfield a better chance of controlling the game.
Obviously nothing will change and we will only get rid of Roy when we go out of the World Cup? And not before.
kidmillions

Man utd have reached the final of thevCL 3 times recently with many english players in their team. We have good players but our coaches haven't used them properly. For example gerrard was played out of position for 10 years

{Ed005's Note - The fact is no-one knows what Tottenham or Liverpool have offered Sigurdsson so I wouldn't go out having a pop at the owners based on idiotic Twitter rumours. What about the rumours that Sig wanted over 70k per week? Selective on your part - to suit your own mind.}

=======================
2 of the editors [ed001 and ed002] have posted that Liverpool did not make a bid for Sigurdsson, sorry ed005, I really understand what you are trying to do but stick to facts as the rest of the editors here know.
I care very little where he ends up, he is not the first , or the last, we may find a better player or may not sign anyone, we already have a team that can keep us in the top half of the table.
As for the owners, all that can be said at the moment is they spent 100m on players since they bought the club. Did they save the club from going under, no , no no. They were many others who would've jumped in and bought at the price FSG got it.

Roy {Ed005's Note - Yes mate but the same eds also said that Liverpool were talking with the player with permission from Hoffenheim but still hadn't agreed a fee so in fact Liverpool were talking to Sigurdsson and have had dialogue with him which gives him a clear indication or what we're offering him. So indeed Roy, as you say, stick to the facts.}

Can anyone tell me if Mesut Ozil actually has an account on twitter? Or is it a fake one? He repeatedly tweets about his love for Liverpool FC. Even though we stand no chance of getting him at the moment, just the thought of him being a Liverpool FC fan will give me the best feeling ever. He's my favourite player after Gerrard. :)

28 Jun 2012 22:24:05
Will suarez miss the west brom game? I looked at the olympic fixtures and they end a week before the west brom game. Thanks

If they get to the final, he probably will

28 Jun 2012 21:53:03
Hey EDs I know this is a bit random but do you know how much Dortmund paid for Marco Reus? Thanks {Ed005's Note - I think it was 17m Euros I'm not sure at all, someone correct me please!}

28 Jun 2012 21:41:40
Hi eds, how much do you think Jovetic will cost? I know that he won't come to Liverpool but if a Premier League team were to put in an offer how much would that actually be? I know from 3 years ago when we were interested in him people were saying 20 million. Is he worth that?

BthekingB {Ed005's Note - Up to 30m I'd think.}

28 Jun 2012 21:41:29
Evening Ed's now I know you hate the Twitter Rumours but I've been reading some tweets from @Anfieldmole and he seems very credible he's stating that a fee has been agreed for Gaston Ramirez in the region of 16mil and that negotiations are ongoing!

Any thoughts Ed's and fellow reds have you seen his account? He's gotten a couple predictions correct also!

Iano

It's just not credible

I wouldn't get my hopes up mate.

Suarez, coates, and Bellamy all to miss the pre season tour.
And the first game of the season with west brom, due to there role in this summers olympics!

I doubt they'l miss the first game of the season over it. do you honestly think rodgers will ring suarez up and tell him to give it his all.
derryred

I heard from a mate Suarez and others in Olympics will miss P/L 1st game.
Jim22

28 Jun 2012 21:30:16
I heard were in for stephen hendry, they say he has the balls to fill the wholes in our squad. Story came from an unnamed hp sauce and they got their cue from a national spread....i cant believe its not a better link than this!

Like it, good one...

There was an offer on the table but steven wanted a rest.

28 Jun 2012 21:27:22
Hi eds, have we got any interest in any of the bologna team other than gRamirez.. Namely diamanti? Not motd fever, I've watched the lad since he was at west ham. Thanks for any feedback. Jayo {Ed002's Note - I would doubt interest in Diamanti.}

Diamanti? No he's not good enough! We need real Diamonds.

what would everyone think if we signed these players:
gaston ramirez
andre schurrle
matais suarez

DORSET RED

I think everyone would be over the moon. But it will never happen unfortunately. CQ

I'd think I was a chelsea supporter

Id think time too turn off football manager pal...
harry h

Mathias isn't worth his price tag. He is a good player though. So I wouldn't been pleased with his signing. Gaston and schurrle are worth it though.
AnfieldUSA {Ed005's Note -

Something to say Ed?
AnfieldUSA {Ed005's Note -

Ed5...?! I'm guessing you Said I was very correct and should be given the job as James bond because my good looks and supreme intelligence that even steven hawkings jealous of.

28 Jun 2012 20:45:42
think what you want of this a friend of mine tried to buy the new liverpool kit today and asked for suarez to be printed on back and was told he couldnt have suarez printed on shirt he asked why? and was told that they could not tell him but he could have any name but suarez and that was in the official liverpool shop in L1 {Ed005's Note - Maybe they ran out of Z's? Because I know people have, in the last few hours, have ordered shirts with Suarez on the back and have brought shirts from the shop with Suarez.}

This guy tried the exact same post about 2 ana half week ago as well lol

Just a quick point did the official club website not do top ten selling names on shirts three weeks ago and Suarez came first with record sales on first day launch of new kit .cheers psv /ps must be going then

Why post this carp, he is the 2nd biggest seller of the new kit

Lie

Chris in tamworth

If i ran liverpool i wouln't tell that people can't have suarez. in fact i would encourage people to get the names and numbers of players expected to leave as they may order new prints for their shirt, increasing profit.
derryred

I'm tearful, but in a laughing type way...

Why would they stop selling them? Its still money and profit?! Doesn't make sense what so ever.

Hi eds!
Can you tell me one site with accurate players contracts (apart from Transfermarkt)? {Ed002's Note - Unless you have access to the commercial databases they might be the best available - obviously club sites would work if they carry that data.}

28 Jun 2012 20:00:05
Hi Ed's.

Just wondering, have we got any interest in any Rangers players at all?

Surely the club (like many clubs) must be monitoring events quite closely?

Cheers Benno {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

28 Jun 2012 20:07:21
I don't understand why people come on here and say FSG out, we have no money to spend, we are missing out on all our targets, FSG will want to sell to buy! The facts are last season we spent a fortune I don't care if some was from player sales because they still put all that back into the squad which shows me they are willing to spend! The transfer window is yet to open so how do people know we are missing out on targets! FSG hardly want to run their huge investment into the ground the know as much as anyone that we need to upgrade our squad because if they want a return on their investment we need to be in the champions league and be winning titles! Dubred

We do have money to spend

You would think that

But it aint necessarily soo

All the people you are on about are whining gits. FSG have gifted us two of the most memerable windows we have had in recent time. i don't see what the complaining is about.

I wish we would have waited a few weeks, we could have had Redknapp ?

Shut up

We maybe didnt want redknapp ?

trev d

Behave yourself ,redknapp my backside!

I'd rather have Rodgers

Chris in Tamworth

He isn't that good, anyway if you like him so much you could always go support his next team

I think Jamie's knee is knackered, and it goes against FSG policy because of his age, he probably wouldn't even make the bench.

John B

Ok good manager but would he have done aswell as rodgers at swansea i thinks not

Dont make me laff redknapp washed up wheeler dealer better suited to flogging old fords down the old kent road no wot i mean guv wink wink say no more

Absolutely ridiculous!

Wasn't there talk a few months ago that Spurs wanted Rodgers to replace Redknapp?

JRG {Ed042's Note - there was talk yes}

Haha yeah an if we waited a few more maybe we could of pinched Aladyce. CQ

Original poster here. Why not? He did really well at spurs - sacked unjustifiably in my opinion. He would have bright some top names in. Hey ho- Rodgers did well with Swansea and theres always the chance he could do well.

Cheers fellas

Gazman

And incidentely - agree disagree - even stevens

Redknapp achieved a lot more than we got with similar backing in terms of league positions

I would rather have Rosie!

ChrisE

Maybe we could have got mick MacArthy..?
AnfieldUSA

Sarcasm is dull - gazman

Redknapp did sooooooo great with Saints and Pompey.

Is that you Jamie Redknapp?

28 Jun 2012 19:46:12
Hi eds, just a quick question. Does the manager have a say or have anything to do with what transfer targets cost? In regards to transfer fee, signing on fee, wages etc. Or does the manager just identify targets and then leave it to others to sort out the details? Thanks for your time, red89 {Ed002's Note - The manager will not deal with negotiation or contracts at most clubs.}

Thanks for the quick reply ed, just curious to how you guys/girls are so knowledgeable about football? Do you all have jobs in the gam? Feel free to tell me to stop being nosy lol. Red89 {Ed002's Note - I just make it up and the others get everything from Ed007s Twitters.}

Did anyone else notice that Phillip Lahm's head was blocking the UEFA banner when he was reading his respect speech. With his head there the banner read "RESPECT DIVERS". Maybe this is a subliminal message from UEFA explaining why they are reluctant to use video evidence to hand out punishments for diving.

Haha yeah i noticed the same thing Bob!

Just warning you Ed's, reports on Twitter that Gaston Ramirez is close to a move to Liverpool. Not saying I believe them, but be ready to answer A LOT of questions on him!

Or just be ready to ignore the carp

GASTON Ramirez has achieved his goal of securing a move to a "big club" this summer, with Liverpool reportedly signing the Uruguay international for £20 million.

When Bolognia want euro 20m then why we pay £20m ?

28 Jun 2012 19:14:25
Last summers transfer window has had a lasting empact on the owners. They will buy top qauilty of the player is right but are more restrained in this window wages wise which is wise in my opinion. Liverpool are running on huge losses each żear and though the losses are decreasing, competing and CL is integral for the long term future of the club.
The owners are playing an estute game of poker,they have their cards close to their chest but I believe will have a winning hand. We wasted alot of money foolishly last summer and the owners are keen to correct that howver that does not mean we will not buy quaility player. I strongly believe that lfc will have a suprise this window. Along with a couple of real quailty players,with our new style of play and are gems of youngsters we will be far stronger next season. Have faith because I do'

Eds what are the chances of us signing gaston Ramirez?? {Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

You crack me up again ed2

28 Jun 2012 18:58:40
The Express have claimed that Gaston Ramirez has signed for 20 mil!!. I'd suspect that this Bull 5h1t as the window isn't open just yet. If true then I'd guess Liverpool will call a press conference between now and Monday, as the transfer window opens on the 1st July. Also Express claiming that Sturridge is a top target for LFC, prob BS as well. Both would be brilliant signings, but will any of this happen??

Transfer window isn't open just yet, but chelsea, scum and arsenal are almost done with summer transfer business.

neostat {Ed042's Note - I'd say let them sign unproven premier league players - let them take the chance}

According to , although there's interest from Premier league clubs, only one club, an unnamed Italian club, seems to have attempted to make 'concrete moves' to get him. It's all pure tripe mate.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

No it doesn't I've just checked.

Both would be great

We signed proven EPL players and it worked out so well

28 Jun 2012 18:52:05
can we sign swansea players if they hand in a transfer request 1st?

28 Jun 2012 18:50:09
Why do the fans think our season will be any better than the one that just gone? Why are people consistently overly confident in the face of overwhelmingly evidence that we are on for the hardest season of our lives and relegation is a real possibility.

Take it your a glass half empty man then!

Dav001

Why do fan from other teams come and post rubbish

oldmonk

I'm comfident we won't him the woodwork as much this coming season, thus making me feel confident that we will do better!

dmedly

Well because gerrard was out for ages and then again straight after... lucas near all year suarez received an 8 match ban while in great form and we hit the post over and over again so why shouldnt we be optimistic see some of us are going to love this club no matter what because were loyal no matter what ye we will moan wen we play bad but the likes of you havent even given buck a chance thats no way to operate..WALK ALONE BUDDY...redness

28 Jun 2012 18:16:19
Liverpool have 5 targets who they believe can be as good if not better than Sigurdsson - via Ben Smith BBC.

28 Jun 2012 18:12:04
Do any of the eds or Macca think we will sign siggurdsson can anyone provide a detailed update please post!
The freshmaker

He will sign for Spurs, Better chance of champions league football, better squad, bigger wages, bigger manager when avb signs. better for his career.

Bigger egos clearly.
Red Branch

He will go to spurs, jay

Bigger egos? do spurs have a better chance of champions league? yes. do spurs have a better squad? yes. do spurs pay more wages to new signings? yes. is avb a better manager than rodgers? most people would say yes. is spurs better for his career? yes.

Have you forgoten how poor Spurs were without Harry? Get ready to remember as the backroom staff and Modric leave. As AVB let the Chelsea players remind you of what a great guy he is to work for. Get it into yours and everyone elses head he is not Jose. YES.

Spurs fans are deluded, they have a half decent squad, buts that's it, its just decent, it is not a challenger, it has not won anything, and most definitely will not win the title, for all the spurs claims that they are a top team they haven't improved with any significance in the last 3 years, have not threatened to win anything or even looked like they could. and they won't next year either. Spurs are going nowhere, at least Liverpool fans accept they are not challengers at the moment, spurs fans refuse to admit that for all their bluster they have nothing to brag about.

If any team is to fall out of the top four next season it will be spurs, and most spurs fans are petrified by this. Every team will be stronger, but I can guarantee spurs will the one team that will not, they never are, they just have a limit they can't pass, and all you spurs fans know it.

Soon

Do you think Spurs will be higher up the league next season..?

Me thinks not!

dmedly

A couple of years of challenging and making the top four and you all turn into billy big spuds, we'll see spurs, we'll see!

Better squad is gonna be questionable this year i think.
ledley king-gone?! adebayor-not coming back. modric-admitted he's off to madrid?! VDV-schalke rumours won't go away.
michael dawson-fitness issues for a quite a while.
gylfi sigurdson is being bought to replace some of your best plyers, lfc were only interested in him to assist our best players. last year your squad was stronger, this year you may have some work to do.

NOTE TO THE SPURS FAN!
Don't come on to the banter page of the 5 times European Champions and preach about champions league this champions league that when the last time I checked your club has not even won it once!
You just got rid of the best manager you have ever had in the premiership!
Well done LEVY..
My best mate is a lilly white so I cant slate you too much and I have grown to like spurs and they are enjoying some good football and a degree of success(still no trophies though). Just dont mug yourself off by acting like a tit about it!
I leave you with a champions league banner from Istanbul which states: What you dream about we have achieved!
jonnybarnes89-90

They do not pay higher wages than Liverpool. They may have offered Sig more but Liverpool pay more on average. I cannot think of a single spuds player on more than 100k a week {Ed005's Note - We're not talking about averages here - we're talking about an individual offer to an individual player. Whilst I think Sigurdsson is a very good player he's not worth 70k+ per week - one of LFC's past problems is paying over the odds on wages and we won't be doing that anymore. If Sigurdsson signed for us and say had two top seasons then could understand wanting over 70k per week but not now.}

I don't know why redkenyan is acting as if he knows me or where I get my information from (re: his response to my post on the 18th). Buddy, I used to play in Mwenge football school (until 3 years ago) and was coached by the same man who coached Wanyama and Mariga for Kenya's under 20s a few years back. It's not that hard to run into the player (Wanyama) himself or his family. In fact, Mariga was at the last AFC Leopards game, and Wanyama will probably be at the Leopards' next game...maybe I'll chat with him then, eh? Don't doubt me, buddy.

The bottom line is that Wanyama will move to the EPL or Serie A

i feel people get confused when they say about andy carroll being a waste of money. im not guna say hes awsome and worth 35 mil because he isnt but 35 mil isnt the overall price. when we got cole we got him on a free but hes cost the club over 20 million pounds in all. aquaman- 20 mil ( i think ) but over 40 mil all together. fsg have shown they dont mind spending big money to get a player aslong as the overall package levals out and they can get back money with a resale if needed. with andy he cost 35mil but has smaller wages so after say 2 years we would have spent more on aqua man then andy. i believe liverpool need to get rid of all there high wage players as soon as possible and that will free funds for new players. ( as fsg will put more money into the fee aslong as the wages arnt rediculous) THIS WAS A PAGE I SAW ON ANOTHER PAGE AND FOUND IT VERY INTRESTING SO THOUGHT ID SHARE IT

Starting to get the feeling the owners will sell to buy. They will start stripping the club of all the best players just watch. And rodgers is no way ready for the liverpool job yet.He should have stayed at swansea they probably have more spending power anyway and a better manager.

A better manager, when, then or now?

Eds just an idea, instead of having all the dating site ads could we not just have a direct link to Samaritans.co.uk? It may be more useful to some of the posters recently than some Ropey old women sitting on a bed in her underwear!
Just a thought

Origional post - utter rubbish!

A better player in Laudrup, but in no way a better manager. I was also around when Shankly was appointed - and that was a surprise to most Liverpool fans as he was more unkknown then, than Rodgers is now.

I rarely get them. I get stupid ads instead - Watch Drama online, 'rooftop prince'.

Hey eds now that we are losing our top striker targets who may we turn our attention to {Ed002's Note - I am sure that there are plenty of strikers available that Liverpool can take a look at.}

Who says they are are top targets, when was the last time you spoke to Rodgers

Good point , none of us even know wwho is a target!

As i am sure you are aware if this is true it is concrete evidence that one of their of their players will sign for us and play first half for them and second for us. Who is your money on? My money is on Schürrle lol haha

RedChris {Ed042's Note - There is indeed a friendly with Leverkusen. And although Shurrle is unlikely, it could be possible.}

We played a friendly against Valencia pre last season when everyone was mentioning that Mata was going to sign at half time! If it is even true that we are playing a friendly against Leverkusen it does not mean we are signing one of their players or even they are signing one of ours! {Ed002's Note - Perhaps a Liverpool player going to Leverkusen?}

Rubbish! Every1 said this about Valencia last season who did we sign? O yeah mata went to Chelsea bore off mate!

We playing toronto in a friendly i dont think we are signing anyone there... {Ed042's Note - We also have Roma in a friendly...Borini??!!}

Haha...ed042. You just took the words right out of my mouth.

SUMON VAI

If there is a friendly maybe it was our legendary Hyppia, who is Leverkusen manager, who requested it.

Yes we are playing them in a friendly

The Hyypia theory mentioned above is more likely.

---------------------

I was clearly joking and taking the piss about Schurrle!! Anyone who was reading this site last year with the whole Mata saga when we played Valencia would realise I was being sarcastic. Judging by these angry responses people really cannot have a laugh! Maybe i didnt make my sarcasm clear enough!!

RedChris

--------------------------

Liverpool just confirmed friendly with Bayer Leverkusen on the official website and twitter. Maybe a player from Leverkusen coming the other way....

Dear Brendan Rodgers,

Do you realise you are at a big club now and while transfer window is'nt open yet, You still have to move quickly to get your targets in place.

We lost Diame to West Ham, Powell to United, Sigurdsson to Spurs, Kalou to Schalke and now De Jong to Monchengladbach.

Soldado and Tello both signed new deals with Valencia and Barcelona so we can rule them out.

Caulker has said he wants to return to Spurs.

We have no chance of signing some of the names been mentioned on here. Ozil, Higuan, Munian, Llorente etc will never play for us as long as we are finishing in 7th/8th place.

This leaves me to think that 'Save a buck' Rodgers is not up to the job and not the man to attract the type of players we need to improve out starting 11. And lets be honest, Thats what we need, To improve our first 11 and move Downing, Carroll, Henderson, Spearing, Carragher, Adam etc into squad players.

And what of the rumours of some of our better players wanting to leave? Suarez, Agger, Skrtel ??

Im really not looking forward to next season, Especially if Rodgers cant even get some of his former players to sign for us, Caulker, Sigurdsson, Borini...

Luke YNWA

We haven't lost out of anyone!

Get a grip!

dmedly

Are you a Liverpool fan ? If so, stop talking sh*te and support the manager and the club

ReDDaZ

If your post is serious, you're an idiot.

Agreed, Rodgers is too small time for the job. I cant see the likes of suarez, reina, skertl and agger sticking around for him. And what sort of players can he attract? i think yet again we will be a laughing stock next season, dubred

What planet are you on,my god some fans whinge,we missed that target and that one,I bet if we would of signed them players in question you would be on here whinging that theyre not lfc quality or if BR came out and stated who he wanted again you would whing that's not the Liverpool way, as the saying goes you can't make everyone happy and your the example.
PK

Tosser

Dear Luke

1.You do realise your are on the Liverpool SUPPORTERS page and have not got lost along the way.
2.You cannot lose players to other clubs if you did not want them in the first place.
3.BR came from a "small" club so what didnt a few of our previous managers....how did they turn out?
4.Most of what is said on here (a few exceptions i.e. Macca etc) is just "opinion" "conjecture" "recycled media stories" etc
5.Transfer window opens 1st July...lets see what happens then.
Have faith if BR identifys a target he wants (within reason) the money is there.

I for one am excited for the coming season and all will soon become clear

Congratulations Luke YNWA. You've won the prize for stupidest ever post on this forum. You should be very proud of yourself as that's no mean feat

Some people are never happy like the man(BR) hasn't made a move yet and he's already making mistakes get a grip man

Eds, can something be done about idiots continually posting the same drivel time and time again? {Ed002's Note - I'll try and stop myself from doing it.}

FSG are tight

Get a grip you childish person, go watch peppa pig
1 - the transfer window aint even opened yet
2- theres no viable evidence the players you mentioned were even BR targets
3- theres over 2 months of the transfer window open
4- i'm sure BR would like to see the players we have in pre season before deciding which positions he needs to strengthen

martynlfc

I agree, this job will be too big for Rodgers.

You would have thought the transfer window shuts tonight by the way you talk mate. Absolute joke! You'd probably be straight back on here in August claiming that BR rushed into buying players we don't need....

Give the bloke time, if you think that nothing is happening behind the scenes you're deluded.

Mark the Selby Red

Oh dear luke....what a silly post. you do realise that just because a paper reports that we are linked with a player, dosent strictly mean that we are intrested.....what a joke. iam fed up of reading those sort of posts. get behind our manager and club.

Give Luke a break

He's only saying what most are thinking

Peppa Pig

90% of targets are from last year, the manager is working 15 hour days in preparation for the new season, he has his own targets and we will find out when he signs them, so stop throwing your toys out and wait and see. We actually have a very good squad as it stands. last year even though results didn't perhaps go our way, played so very very good football. So sort your life out. We will get 2 or 3 additions.

Can we all please form an orderley line behind Luke and take it in turns to beat the crap out of him Like in Aeroplane the movie?

Eds is Traore a formar CFR Cluj player ? I think saw him in a match 2 years a go. he is tall and very fast. create so many chance but miss so many too.

r-r {Ed002's Note - He is an ex Cluj player.}

How would he get a work permit if he has never played international football? Seems to be no obvious French link either, as he was born in Ivory Coast, not France

Eds, have Pascoe, driscoll and Davies (BR's backroom staff) officially joined yet? Also do you think we could really entice valero back to the club? {Ed002's Note - I can guarantee Pascoe is in place and would assume all recruited staff would be by now. I really don't know abot Valero though.}

Ed's how seriously do you see us taking the europa league? do u think we will be playing players like shelvey and some academy prospects or do you think we will go with some more established stars to try and go far in it? {Ed002's Note - It will be taken seriously certainly once through to the league and I would expect a number of the squad players to get a run out that may not happen so often in the League.}

28 Jun 2012 16:28:29
Apparently we are in talks with Traore. Imagine him and Andy up front. There will be no football next season for us just LAUNCH IT LADS!!

Right so Suarez on the bench, get a grip

Like Wimbeldon of the 1980's, certainly no 'tiki taka'.

Suarez will be away soon. Nailed on. He is fed up of English football.

people... without a strong defence( i don mean defenders i mean central defensive midfield) how do you all(most who say kenny buy's are worst) expect those kenny buys to be strong in attack. Downing defends more than he attacks he tracks back that's one reason we bought him. Adam i slow he needs time i knw ,i know it s premiership mates but with lucas in sqaud i think may be these players do what they were doing at their clubs before joining us thats cause problems for opposite team defence rather than helping our defence being thier priority... i just believe lucas or a string DM was missed last season not wingers not poachers .... just my thought

feel free to be open to your views....
hope this coming season bursts joy into anfield and bring back those days of shankley...

People need to settle down.

Saying we are slow in the market and things aren't going to change, talking as if its August 31st already Jesus Christ.

Okay so no-one has signed yet and whilst other big clubs have began spending that doesn't mean we should get worried.

I am optimistic about the new season and cannot wait to see what it brings. {Ed042's Note - Window isn't even open until Sunday, I agree, people need to relax.}

Its exciting, like a young kid waiting for Christmas, you know you will be getting pressies, just not sure what those will be.

Does Liverpool have a real possibility of being relegated this season. Last seasons stats from 2012 on put us at the bottom of the table. If those trends continue and our team stays unchanged. Then it is possible for us to get relegated this season

Add to the fact that we now have a experienced manager at our level of football club and that the owners don't want to purchase world class players.

Also the rumours going around about our best players looking to move else where and our first month run in being very difficult.

Would the fans say that putting be bit of money on Liverpool to get relegated seems to look like a good bet.

I remember Newcastle being in the similar position when they went down. I think Rogers will get hammers first month, then limp along to Xmas in very poor form.

I think Gerrard will pick up a injury very soon that will keep him out until March/April 2013. I don't think Gerrard could pull us away from relegation. Him playing all those euro 2012 games will put him in a poor state for the start of the season.

Did u ever here of happy thoughts

You leave our Stevie G alone you nasty man.

Gerrard played 4 games at the euros! Don't think that's enough for anyone to complain about being burnt out! People really need to stop looking for every negative they can find about Liverpool because jumping to conclusions about what we're willing to spend and where we'll end up in the league is ridiculously before the transfer window has even opened! Bored of all the moaning on here! Any chance of a page just for the moaners ed? Because its taking over!!

SM91

Fingers crossed, it would weed out all the glory hunters and it would give the club the wake up call it badly needs

Behave - also if you look at the stats, we very often perform better as a team when Gerrard is out, the other players have to take more responsibility instead of expecting Stevie G to do everything especially this coming season, new manager, new ideas, players have to impress - a better bet would be us winning something.

if i was a spurs supporter i would be very worried a very good manager in harry redknapp gone,possibility of the unpopular a.v.b coming in to replace in.
modric wants to go again this summer and i think he will be off this time,vertonghen has turned his back on a transfer to them and bale yes has signed a 4 year deal but with only 1 year left on current deal is this just a clever bit of work by levie to make sure spurs don't see bale walk away for nothing so he might still go if a bid comes in and sigurdsson is far from being a spurs player and all the confusion might just swing this deal liverpools way.

Lucky your not then, watch from july the 1st

Eds, seems like we are in negotiations with 6.8 striker troare! Seems to have ability and scores regularly. He is very energetic for his height, I would say better than crouch. It looks like we have put in a bid for 6.4 million. Is this Andy Carrolls replacement? Also news that we are in for a goalkeeper don lyon (cannot remember his name ) is pepe going? {Ed002's Note - I have only confirmed interest being shown in Traore from Fulham and know nothing of Don Lyon. Should Don Lyon be a nom de plume for Hugo Lloris then if Reina leaves he might be an option.}

Please, please, please sign him, anybody but Carroll (if the deal falls through please sign Peter Crouch).

The Traore story came from an article in a paper called the 'National'. It said we were in talks with him because him and Petrescu (his manager) had fallen out.

This is just paper talk. We know how truthful and honest papers can be. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Carroll to stay and prove all you doubters wrong - like Lucas did, the vitriol towards Lucas by the so called supporters sat in the Kop near me was horrific and shameful, it was slightly amusing when they all became his biggest fans and denied ever slagging him off. - The fickleness of modern football fans eh.

John B

John b i gotta agree carroll was getting lethal as the season ended and i have to say i was always mouthing about lucas and he proved me wrong il admit that as for carroll im a fan if he stays out of the clubs and perhaps a haircut he will be a force haircut being optional..redness

JS

Well he is at madrid the team he wanted over us stevie g will always be a liverpool player.

Yes he did choose to go to Madrid, but only after Rafa had had a high profile and failed pursuit of Barry to replace him the previous summer. It is not surprising he got p*ssed off - Barry was Alonso never going to be half as good as Xabi.

Always amazes me how many fans seem to have forgotten this and are desparate to have Rafa and his bizarre rotations and signings back.

Newcastle came from relegation to beat us, and we bought CARROLL. Blackpool came from relegation to beat us, and we bought ADAM. And now, Swansea came from relegation to beat us and we want to buy SIGURDSSON after buying their MANAGER! D signings didn't turnout as expected but I hope these ones work!

This post makes no sense!

28 Jun 2012 14:08:05
Graham Carr has said to a Newcastle radio station that Liverpool were offered Cabaye but opted for Adam instead, which gave Newcastle their opportunity. He also said that Liverpool made a derisory offer for Demba Ba in January

I know everybody wants to see this star player and that big name playing for our 1st team but me? I am dying to see Coady, Morgan, Suso and Sterling get meaningful run outs this season. And imo Jonjo has shown glimpses of real potential and deserves more chances to play.

Last summer Eds said they were not ready. What about this year?

And what happened to David Moli? He looked a gd prospect but don't hear about him anymore.

YNWA
Singapore Red {Ed002's Note - They may get more time this year and some may go on loan.}

I'd expect with Europa League they'll get some time -McMenemy

They are still not ready

I think Kris Adorjan would fit into the first team style of play BR wants with ease. He is an intelligent player who creates lots of opportunities for team mates and has that bit of guile required to break difficult teams down, Suso is of similar ilk and I woulkd have them both in the squad. Sterling and Morgan deserve a chance, they do look a little lighweight at the moment to me.

EVO YNWA {Ed042's Note - I do think BR will be promoting a few of those type of players from the academy, using them in the cup competitions mostly.}

Just 10? what a steal! This sounds like concrete info.

Is that Gaston Ramirez?

More like £15-20 million. That's assuming you meant Gaston Ramirez. We could get him, but not for as little as £10 million.

does anyone know if we have a good chance of signing or interested in:
Castaignos

Was impressed by the appointment of rodgers, hopefully he will be in charge for many years to come! What I was wondering eds is exactly how financially capable FSG really are? If you could help?

Thanks
Chris {Ed002's Note - FSG will be supportive within reasonable constraints. They are not in a position to fund Anzhi, Manchster City etc. levels of spending.}

I am not an Ed

But FSG are poor reatively speaking especially when compared to Roman and Monsour

We can expect a moderate spend of no more than 20M unless players such as Skrtel, Reina, etc. are sold {Ed002's Note - The owners have been very supportive so far but I would think are disappointed with the results after the spending of the last 18 months.}

False Ed.. They are in that position.

Just because some owners of fsg are billionaires does not mean they will throw tons of their own money at the team {Ed042's Note - The money is available if required.}

All thanks to Queen.. shame how the money was wasted...

28 Jun 2012 13:20:39
i think that kennys signings were ok they didnt play well but thats because his managerial style was a little outdated thats it.. not his fault he got hired and ye he spent cash but thats what happens when you buy first team english players from rival clubs we as fans should know and realise this.and i know its easy to say this now but personally i thought martin oneill would have been the better choice to simply stabilise things and thats what fsg wanted originally it was a temp job for kenny

So you think Kennys signings were ok - where have you been for the past year cos they were useless.

I stated they didnt play well so your statement is just silly

28 Jun 2012 13:01:40
Hey Eds, with the reports of the Vertonghen deal not going through because of Ajax being unwilling to offer 15% of the 9.5m fee, could LFC not offer the 9.5m agreed price and then pay for the 15% of the fee, making it less then 11m?

Possibly better then Skrtel and has been consistent for a few years unlike Skrtel.

There are better CB around for less that 9m, lovren for instance would cost around 8m.

There is no point in having two left footed defenders agger is better I would save the money for someone else

Vertonghen can also play leftback as he did in the european championships and with aurellio gone cover is needed there.
he can also play defencive midfield as very good reader of game again cover for lucas needed id get in.

I very much doubt Vertonghen would wanna be a back up for Lucas or Agger.

koptalk are saying that a £15 mill bid for Gaston Ramirez, seen it on one Dunce's Videos. but after everything i've heard about the site and Mr Oldham im not sure if its reliable. what do you think ed's? value your opinion more than any other site's to be honest. {Ed002's Note - This has been done to death already.}

28 Jun 2012 12:48:46
Hi Eds, great site alot of friends mock me for religiously looking at this site but I continue to even though you guys never put my posts up. However, I fully understand and acknowledge you must get loads of these a day and the filtering process must be a pain in the a**. Anyway, out of interest I was wondering if I could pose a question to Macca? Macca you claimed that we arent afraid of spending big this window... I jst would like to know what makes u come to this conclusion, because at the moment we are static in the market or so it seems and also..we have an early beginning to the season whereas our rivals for a top 4 spot dnt. Also Macca/Eds.. do you guys see any of last summers arrivals being shipped out? Downing inparticular was a major disappointment...£20million, no goals and no assists in the Premier League, jst wondering if BR might be willing to ship him out.

28 Jun 2012 12:47:43
Do you think BR will try impress everyone by going for unknown names ? I like that to happen but not for the areas that require immediate solution. RM, CM, Striker are must. I hope he doesn't take too many risks for those areas

miccmak

He gave an interview a while back saying instant success is more important than bringing his passing style through, so with that sort of motive I don't think he will take too many risks as we have a tough start

28 Jun 2012 12:40:12
O of course were selling all our players that have started to produce... Next Lucas will be on his ways out to not gonna happen

Red man

So far we have produced lucas, agger and skrtel and all of them came to liverpool within a year of each other.

we tried with babel and ngog (although I didn't see what was wrong with ngog)

side note; I think we just got a player we can compare Ngoo with, Lacina Traore.

There was not much wrong with Ngog apart from the fact that he was brutal at football

As far as ngog goes it helps if you have either the pace or strength to beat a defender he had none is he even getting a game at bolton the highlight of his career was getting mistaken for babel by aging commentaters or a tap in here or there SHIVERS

28 Jun 2012 11:12:15
Edd001,I think moutinho is highly underated comparing him to modric for e.g. He is technically excellent,has a good shot,is an excellent passer on the ball and knows how to dictate play and tempo. I believe he would strive in the quicker pace of the Premier league. What do you think of him. Hes been around for a while but none of the elite clubs have snapped him. Would he be possible or has his excellent euros ruled out any hope. Much apprecation as always mate'

Melbourne' {Ed001's Note - whereas I think he struggles when the pace is high, he likes to dwell on the ball and that is not suited to the Prem. Ability wise, he is top class, but I don't think he is quick enough, mentally, for the Prem.}

He will be avb first signing for spurs replacing modric

That's the same thing for ADAM

Emmanuel Adebayor - 8M.
Andre Schurrle - 12M
Fernando Gago - 5M
Keep Aquilani.
If we did that we woud be in a very strong position for next season IMO.

Reina
johnson - skrtel - agger - enrique
gerrard - lucas - aquilani
schurrle - adebayor - suarez

subs: doni, kelly, coates, gago, henderson, downing, carroll.

Is there any interest in any of these 3 players ? {Ed002's Note - None right know but I would not be surprised if Schurrle was being considered.}

We would have to pay almost double 12m if we wanted Schurrle

Hans

Okay and spend our whole budget on wages for overpaid flops such as aqua and adebayor. and yes we'll have to spend about 25 million on schurrle to get him, before submitting a huge wage package.
derryred

Adebayor - what! But then again he is miles better than Carroll.

Fool our budget wouldn't have anything to do with the wages of Aquilani as he is already a LFC player. i get your point about adebayor though.

this would be mine with those signing involved

1. FWD-Winger) Schurrle - 12m
2. DM) Gago - 5m (if he didn't complete the move to roma)
3. CM) Granero - 7m
4. LB) Bedimo - 5m
5. AM-Winger-SS) Gaston Ramirez - 17m

which comes in at £46m with all of our area's covered, being;
DM Cover replacing spearing
Capable CM replacing adam
LB cover we don't have
RW we don't have
AM we don't have

Before Aquilani I'd rather play Shelvey, Henderson, Spearing. Adam, Suso, Coady, Teixeira, Adjoran and Cole in the middle of the park, even me Nan!

Agreed but not because a lack of talent but because all the acting the mick

The press and media are so pathetic really. BBC now reporting on tottenham page that Tottenham and Liverpool are in for sigurdson and are both vying for him, slightly different to their he has agreed to sign and having a medical today story

Was just wondering eds which media source if any do you deem even slighlty reliable? :)

See there is a bit of confusion on here about Tika-Taka style of football.

It is a style of football, not a formation.
Tika = short, quick passing.
Taka = juggling, direct, possesion.

Spain use this to great effect as they have technically gifted players all over the pitch.

Classic example, you will hardly ever see Cassilas oof the ball out his hands, as its a chance possesion is lost.

Midfield is the machine to make this style work, which is why you will see spain and barca pack the midfield, then release 2 or 3 upfront when one of their plays goes right. If it doesnt they will just keep the ball until the next opportunity comes along.

"The ball never gets tired" Bill Shankly used this in his days as our pass & move ethos, Tika-Taka is a modern version of this.

Offensively this works just as well, if they havent got the ball they cannot attack, simple ?
And when you dont have the ball it is common for this style to be coached as a "rule" to get the ball back in 10-20 seconds. Listen carefully and you will hear Del Bosque scream "ball" when spain dont have it.

Having many routes available to attack is also key, switching wings, drawing defenders out, one touch play. Always, there is support of 3-4 players in a 10-20 yard area around the ball.

Spain do not need to play with a striker ( unless they really need, which isnt very often) as they have the players that can pass the ball in and around the area with confidence. Resulting in a quick, supported move for someone to pass the ball into the net.

Look at their corner & crosses count, very very minimal as they dont rely on height as it is easily defended. Wingers are encouraged to take on and cut in or back to support waiting.

Those reading this are probably thinking " boring, boring football", but look at Barca, they are at there peak using this style, as they can now bring speed into the mix. Which for this style is virtually unplayable ( unless you have a shed end size bus to park :0) ) Barca have taken about 3-4 year to perfect this properly.

I am not saying 3-4 year you will see us playing like Barca, BR has stated he wants Liverpool way, nothing else. Which, by co-incedence is already our "pass & move" ethos, but made for the modern game, BR and our style suit each other.So i hope a difference will be visible straight away, in how we use the ball and support it.

Genuinely, next time any of you watch Barca or Spain watch carefully not the ball, but the movement off of it and support. And the ability to just flick the switch and attack.

Sorry for the length of post, just thought i might use a little of what i already know and use to educate the few that cannot see how we will be playing.

some say boring, i say soul destroying, energy draining possesion football, that once in place no matter quality of player against will mentally give us the edge. Mentallity in the oposition needs to be 100% to be able to stop this style, we seen the chavs do it, and they knew they had to for every second of the game,LVG and Mourinho have both successfully defended against the style through man and double man marking ( Iniesta, Messi ) and 4 wing backs, forcing play to funnel into midfield.

There are so many different ways of playing Tika-Taka, we have only seen the basic and so far most effective type, expect different versions i would say from German leagues. Where they are looking to introduce height and hold up play up front to suit.

Expect Germany to drain the Italians tonight.
And if they can keep the ball and use it correctly, beat Spain in a close 2-1 final.

So, all in all, i would expect to see a German type of approach to how we will be playing over the next few seasons. Utilising a powerfull skillfull point man ( not referred to as a forward no more) with quick effective wingers, both confident in cutting in and back, and good crossers, backed up with 2-3 forward thinking midfielders.

And just a thought, as i watched a lot of how Jonjo played last season when he was on, he could develop into a top,top player under BR as an AM.

Appreciate any thoughts,comments.
Piddy.

Not into this Tarka Tikka football iits just the same as Chicken Tikka but a little 'otter

Lol EFCwhitesocks that is a classic. Cheered my day up anyway haha

We already have the style of play. Thank Kenny for that. Most of the players will be used to it. All we need is 2 or 3 quick players who make runs or get into positions to receive a pass. This along with the very slow build up was our major problem last season. Too many backward passes were made because no one else was available. Hopefully BR will work on players positioning especially with the likes of Henderson and Shelvey as I think they will have a big role to play.

oldmonk

Well said. It takes some people to explain it and understand the game well enough for other to maybe appritiate that it is basicaly total football. Spain are maybe over playing and so are barca.

I don't know about that but, man, the pressing game (from both teams) was impressive last night.
Are they about 20% fitter than our lads or what ?
And it was pressing right up to the opponents penalty area as well.
I would like to know why England run out of steam and these fellas keep going.
The Real KB

You are right about the work players need to do off the ball , closing down play and getting the ball back as quickly as is possible, when you look at the england team with a 442 falling back to just mark space in thier own half most of the time, its like football from the stone-age conpaired to germany and spain etc, i would say england under roy are even futher away from winning a tourament than they ever were, under br i expect more switching wings, forwards and midfielders interchanging all over the pitch , and playing with a higher workrate , because as we see spain closing down the other team in their own half , it puts them under pressure , never let up and chase the ball everytime ,i really think br will take on what kk was trying to do , but having learned from all over the world, different coaching and more mordern play , i think our new manager will be a great success , heres hoping..............lfc

I think we played good football under kenny. i think the problem was that we didn't counter attack quick enough and we didn't finish key chances. if some of them wen't in then we would be looking at a definite top 5 finish.
derryred

True oldmonk, but that style is not consistent enough to play against everybody.Its easily found out.Foundations are there.

OP,
You mention Total football and overplaying as though they are different?

They are both the same.
Piddy.

We need more people with that is on the same wave length as Pepe like babel was, he will create them A lot of chances.

KB.
A few reasons, mainly.
1/ age.
2/ we dont keep the ball and use it effectively enough.
3/ formation / zonal play.
4/ 1st touch.
Piddy.

The reason england get so tired as it takes so long to get the ball back. When you play the ball usually only one player is near the ball and cannot really press. When Spain pass it is usually only 10/15 yards and 3 or 4 players can press at the same time.

This is something Rodgers wil expect us to do and will probably affect Gerrard more than others as he will either have to change his game (unlikely at his age) or move much further forward and wider with their likely to be two other holding/passing midfielders so with players we have now I expect team to be:

Reina

Johnson
Agger
Coates (better passer than Skrtl)
Enrique

Adam
Lucas

Stirling (we need pace)
Gerrard
Downing

Suarez

There was a good article a few days ago by Jed Davies on the Liverpool site about the tika takka approach, "Analysis: The longest 90 minutes". Well worth the read.

Tika Taka = Siesta Football.
Its just like watching Barca play (and that's one team I just can not stand to watch).
Drama queens and touch/fall and roll all over the pitch.

Does Tika Taka football mean as boring as sh*te ? because thats all i see.

If you can't stand watching barca then you should find a new hobby.

Not really but it does give the opposition incentive to defend deep kinda like Chelsea. (that was not a football match it was people scared out there minds trying to prevent alien invasion by setting up defense barriers)

Nothing to do with Liverpool in a way, but seeing as its a banter site, just wondering about the topic last year, or possibly 2 years ago about playing a premier league game abroad? I knew nothing came of it, I was thinking at the time, isnt that what pre season friendlies abroad are about( selling the club and the premier league to other countries, as well as giving our worldwide fans a chance to see their team) But just thinking, does anyone think that the Premier League will try this again, not during the season, but as an official advert style in different countries as a way of again selling the prem lge. No disrespect, but big club against small club all around the continents?
DAR {Ed002's Note - Friendlies help to sell a club abroad and bring in much needed income to clubs in the EPL. The idea of playing an EPL game overseas was really just nonsense from a footballing perspective. I would suspect it will be an idea lost in history.}

PL commitee saw £, nothing else.
Trying to get what they can out of our own pre-season friendlies.
Big club v Big club, ok warranted as a advert for the PL.
No disrespect, stoke v west ham in Russia on a snowy sunday afternoon? errr nah thanks.

Its official by recent posts on this site - Carroll is uselss, Henderson is hopeless, Downing is pathetic and Adam is shocking. All Kennys buys. Thank you for wasting lots and lots of money.

Maybe the posters that talk about our players like that are pathetic ?

All 3 hendo, carroll, n downing were part of our national squad,
n CARROLL JUST NAILED Sweden with that header. its not a fluke. carroll has all the attributes to be a beast of a forward .
n henderson n may be all of the players were so wrongly handled by kenny. till the last day he was not sure abt the combination n whom to play.

As are them utter simpletons who clearly don't know good football when they see it. thank you kenny.

I am feeling very optimistic about BR! I think it was Ed42 that was suggesting in earlier post that it is BR that has an issue with Siguardsson wage demands. If true it feels great to me to have someone who is in control and not likely to easily be controlled by player hype and ego's!

Personally i think Sig has a very bright future and hope we do get him, but not at any cost

By the way Ed 42 (i hope it was 42?!) and Ed 05, you two are the best IMHO as you do tend to answer most questions thrown at you...which is a lot! Hope you getting paid in gold bars! ;)

Cardiff make a £500,000 bid for bellamy and he is willing to take a pay cut to go there.

Good he is to old for us anyway plus he is getting slow. Ashy

Getting slow, he's still the quickest player we have bar Sterling.

Papa G

Bellamy might be getting slower , but my goodness he is still one of the quickiest in our squad.

So he rejected them to come to liverpool, where he took an enormous pay cut. i think he will see out his contract before moving. he can't play every week anyway due to his knee's.

hi eds just wondering about all people who want to offload adam downing cole and aqua. i still remember when alot of people wanted them last year. they wrote sign adam, sign downing, but now they dont like to see them in lfc anymore. what a suck.... why dont we just give them another chance in guide of new manager ito show their true skill. i think we just need 4-5 players. they are 1 striker it could be bendtner cause he hasnt place in arsenal but he has high talent and still young, 1 wingers it could be adam johnson or vargas, 1 left back and 1 creative midfielder it could be sigurdsson . for back up we still have some prodigy players like sterling, suso, pacheco, coates, and gulasci. they need to give more chance to bright. in rodgers we trust.....
indonesian reds.

Good players will always find their form, but bad players will always be crap!.
They had their chance, time to move on, 'adios!' All you average plonkers!.

I agree with most of your post except for aqua and bendtner. if pacheco has "burned his bridges" then perhaps he should go too. i still think adam and downing deserve another season but i don't know how adam can fit into BR's style, so maybe just a back-up option.

the sig saga is a joke. It just shows FSG do not care about liverpool or we would have signed him already. If it was a baseball player he would already have had already been signed. Also when the club was sold it should have been sold to owners who could afford to build a new stadium. They should have known that football aint cheap and to get in the CL we need major investment on and off the pitch.

Quite agree, these owners are not interested in Liverpool FC or the Premier League.

We can't sign anybody yet - it's not the July 1st. If he wants to go somewhere else what's that got to do with FSG - it appears to be Rodgers who knows his worth and won't pay a penny more - why blame the owners?

You two positive posters need to give your heads a wobble.

From all decent Liverpool fans.

Pathetic post

What a joke this opening post is....

perhaps the owners/brendan r showing that they DO give a sh*t about the club, by showing they wont be pushed around anymore and that if Sig is demanding high wages then he can do one...??

if the rumours of Sig wanting loads of cash and isnt just happy to sign for our great club, then he doesnt deserve to put on the red shirt in the first place.

some people have no idea

Behave yourselves! If FSG didn't care about Liverpool would they spend millions purchasing the club, writing off H&G mistakes, investing in the squad, bringing in people to improve us off the field and ultimately remove 2 managers who they felt weren't getting them the results they wanted?

On the stadium, why would anyone spend £400m on a new stadium when you could get the same financial benefits of a new stadium for half the cost? I suggest you read the Peter McGurk blog on what a redeveloped stadium could become.

On signing players, LFC will have an idea on fees and wages for targets and if those players or their agent are driving for deals that exceed what FSG and LFC feel they're worth, they'll move onto the next target.

RedSG

That blog was quite interesting RedSG. The only prob was that it condensed about 25 years gradual evolution in to five drawings !

as for what I'm aware of, there CAN be big money spendings, but only for young talented lads... and some cleaning will be made in squad (joe cole for example... came on free (I think), but when you calculate all his wages he'll cost us roughly 20m pounds...),
I'm looking forward for this transfer window! :DD
Cheers

Joe Cole is believed to be getting given a second chance.

I think he'll get a second chance as his wages mean we will not get rid of him easily and i think he will be a good asset in BR style has the technical ability i think we might see him behind the strikers as he lacks pace but can see a pass and open a defence. just my thoughts TSB

What hapened with Liverpool's interest in Ryan Shawcross? We were near to sign him last season.

Dear god no.

Ryan who? Just like last year when we bought a load of dross why would we want to buy Shawcross?

He turned you down because Stoke are a better and bigger club plus ryan loves United to much to join your mickey mouse scouse club. The Devil

Nice to see you`re back AGAIN devil, we all know you`re a TRUE RED. YNWA.

Of course Stoke are a bigger club, massive support, massive stadium - and incredible football history and pedigree - is it nice on your planet? - or do the men in white coats not let you out very often?

I would rather have watched Stoke than the dross served up at Anfield last season.

Funny that the worst game of 'football' had to be at Anfield vs Stoke ??

28 Jun 2012 08:50:48
Reading a bit saying it's BR not wanting to pay the wage demands of sigurdsson and i have to say that you have to repect that BUT. If you want to be the best team you have to buy the best players. To sign the best players you have to pay the best wages or atleast competertive wages. If not players will want to leave. If we do sign Gilfi and he signs on low wages or lower than he knows he could get esleware then he will not be happy and then will probaly not sign a new contract and leave on a free thus costing us the £8mil or whatever he cost us in the first place. Plus we can't at this time afford to miss out on players of Gilfi Sigurssons ability

If we pay top money for players, pay them top wages. simple. Oh, wait a minute, where does the money come from? WE CANNOT AFFORD IT. If i want a new car i ask myself can i afford it or do i take a chance on going into a spiral downwards. (Leeds, Portsmouth,Etc) Wake up and smell the coffee.
robbie

Why did FSG take over liverpool if they did not have the money.

Simple make more money

Remember Leeds utd? Singred

I tell you what lets bow down to every players demands that we want and see what happens, cause that always works out well doesn't it?

Its Sigurdsson for godsake if it was Messi, Ronaldo or Iniesta then i would say take the risk, but it isnt, get a grip.
SA

FSG took over in the hope of making big bucks in the middle to long term

FSG thought they could come in and make lfc great again with little money

Expand Anfield

And then sell on to the highest bidder

Its still their plan

Hence Ginger Rogers I mean Brend*n Rogers

Joe cole is staying at Liverpool! It has already been said that BR is giving him a chance next season, so I don't know why everyone is saying he's leaving

If we end up playing like BR wants us playing, then Joe will fit right in. He's that kind of player, technically v good.
I think the last year away will have done his confidence the world of good after his disastrous first with us.

Let's hope he plays as well as he did for lille

This Lacina Traore rumours are I believe just BS unless Carroll is leaving. Even if Carroll is leaving why move for him I don't think he is better than Carroll.

Then there is no point in bringing another target man as two target men dosen't make sense for a side to play pass and move football.

So for me just complete BS.

Bosco

Lacina Traore is way better than Andy Carroll.

Where does " he is way better than Carroll "come from? He plays in the Russian league, how many people have actually watched him on a regular basis? His goalscoring record is not the least bit amazing. I's stick with a young, already proven PL striker personally.

John B

A fence post is better

I am not the person who said that Traore is better than Carroll but how can you say that Carroll is a proven PL striker? He had half a decent season at Newcastle (which is why we bought him for 35m . . . ha, ha, ha) and done absolutely nothing for us last season - FACT!

I am sure Carroll scored the winner against Everton in the fa cup! Do you even watch Liverpool? Carroll has had fitness problems since his move, 5/6 games at the end of the season when he was 'fit' he looked like the player we seen at Newcastle. He looked the best striker at the Euros too. Lacina Traore is a 6"8 donkey, he is a cheap mans Peter Crouch! Many of you need to stop playing them video games, honestly!

The fact is Carroll is not a proven PL striker. Would anyone in the world pay 35m for him now - NO! I dont think anyone would pay half that amount for him now, so he is a flop!!

Are you mad, did you not watch carroll for england !!!?

Carroll should have started the Italy game not Rooney.

Do you find this tiki taka style boring?

I dont think the way Spain are playing right now is Tiki Taka football.. Tiki Taka is basically pass and move, resulting in a shot on goal! The way Spain used to play...
ItsNotRocketScience

Spain have lost their way slightly which I believe is down to the fact that they've not really played with a striker on the pitch. It affects the way they play, theres no focal point in the last 3rd of the pitch. Why they havent played with Llorente is beyond me.

It's boring if it isn't your team doing it, as a neutral its horrible to watch but when it's your team dominating you don't mind at all.
Jud.

Well, last nights spectators were not very thrilled with it.
I personally find it ponderous, and its designed for little mini men to play football.
Give me "blood and guts" football anyday.
We are originators not followers!.

Why would anyone want to watch a team like Spain with 11 players with the ability to control a ball with their first touch, make a pass, and move for the return -demand the ball when marked - go past players with ease and have a tremendous work ethic - I personally prefer that to the English players ability, where the second touch is generally a tackle or a free kick. Please BR if having players that pass and move, learn the basics of control, and work for each other - then bore me to tears, I can't wait.

Tika Taka requires players with the skill of Messi and Iniesta.

From a very good mate who works at LFC..sigurdsson has chosen us ..he was amazed at the spurs offer but would rather work with BR again....mark my words he will be with us very soon

Don't agree at all, unfortunately money talks but sod him, we shouldn't be breaking the bank for anybody especially with the new rules coming in. Spurs will regret spending like this if they don't make the champions league and with a new manager for next season I really don't see it happening.

eds or macca,
what are the chances of signing some players that have prem experience that are not wanted by their club or want to move on. the likes of VELA, DOS SANTOS, TAARABT, HOILETT, DIAME, KALOU, JOHNSON, JARVIS and DEMPSEY!
all these players would make good back-ups to the quality team which we have already.
i know they're not big names that every1 wants to see come in but they have been in the prem and are ready to prove that they have been under rated and can give more to a team that actually wants them. what do you guys think? how do you rate these players?
jim

p.s- if BR cant bid for swansea player for 6mths, what if they handed in a transfer request, could he bid then? {Ed005's Note - Those players demand too high a wage to be considered squad players.}

Hi Eds. I want to send out a message to Liverpool fans. Please can you post in rumours as well as banter?

My message is please give Brendan Rodgers a chance to succeed. Success is not an overnight commodity. It is earned over a period of time where you have tested yourself against the every best with whatever you have at your disposal. We have a TRUE football man in charge. Someone who knows and lives the modern game. This is a a huge benefit to Liverpool.

He may fail in his first season. Whats the difference in finishing 8th to 15th for example, other than a few places?! Big deal?! Lets just give him a REAL chance i.e, 2 FULL seasons to get it right and with that in mind we may relive any potential current pressure and as a result we may surprise a few as well as ourselves but that is a far more positive way of thinking than suggesting that he may be out by xmas if certain players leave and/or come in.

Liverpool was here yesterday and it will still be here long after tomorrow, regardless of who we do or do not sign.

Believe.....

Thanks

Kam

Spain are toothless. No Torres, No Llorente.
Whoever wins tomorrow. Will win the competition.
All this tikky takky nonsense requires Lionel Messi.
He is Argentinian and cannot play for Spain.
Tikky takky has been found out.
It's obsolete.

Yeah you're right. Oh wait hang on a minute spain just made a third consecutive final. So just to clarify you're very wrong. CQ

Obsolete? Are u insane!

Yes you're right.

I hear that the Spanish football association and Barcelona are battling over Dave Basset and Sam Allardyce for their next manager as they also believe that the passing game is dead and kick-and-rush will be the next big thing.

Expect Barcelona to close-down their academies set-up by Johan Cruyff which have produced some of the worlds best players and put Joe Kinnear in charge of the youth team players.

JRG

They are in the final... Enough said.

It needs players like pedro navas etc. Spain have too many passive players for example silva fabregas iniesta alonso and bus quests are not going to run at players. You may notice when Torres comes on they improve as he will run in behind and mix it up a bit.
Barcelona have the right balance with Sanchez messi and pedro willing runners and will happily commit defenders even David villa will happily run in behind.

JRG - class comments pal, made me wet myself
Ultra red {Ed002's Note -

They need a striker on the pitch, a focal point in the final 3rd. Why Llorente hasn't had a kick is beyond me.

The only thing that the comment said that was correct was that Messi is Argentinian and cant play for Spain.
Well spotted

Pirlo Alonso Modric Scholes Gerrard

Xavi Fabregas Spearing Zidane Iniesta

Which midfield 5 would come out on top?

Spearing how did he manage to get in such elavated company? tough one to call if you'd have put Viera or Essien in you'd have to say the bottom one. But as the saying goes you're only as good as your weakest link so i'll go top. CQ

Spearing?? U gotta be kidding mate!

Spearing?

That would be one boring match as I've just been watching Spain and they are awful to many passive players.

Tough one. I haven't seen zidane play much these days. I fancy the bottom one, as Xavi, Fabregas and Iniesta have a good understanding of playing together.

The top is a mesh I'm not sure would work.

I guess your point is about Spearing but even I could play well with the other four.

Question for ed005, i know its impossible to say but in you're opinion, how many players do you think we need and realistically who could be atainable. I know its if's and maybe's but just interesting.Thanks eds for you're work, especially on tough days like yesterday haha.edsreds. {Ed005's Note - Hi mate - if we're speaking in the context of how many players we need to get a top 4 place then I would say 3 for the first XI with one or two for the squad. A striker, a wide player and a creative midfielder/attacking midfielder. I think someone like Rondon would be both realistic and perfect as a striker. I think the attacking midfielder could be Sigurdsson and hopefully it is - disappointing that it may not happen now. As for the wide player - for me G.Ramirez would have been ideal - it is possible but we'll have to see. Krasic would be another option I like. I think we could do with adding some depth in defence - maybe one squad player for there, and possibly a DM as cover for Lucas. Next year I think the likes of Henderson and Carroll stepping up could be a massive boost to us.}

All this crap now about sigurdson aint this and aint that an he not good enough had a decent half a season at a YOUNG age so dont forget he is still developing as a player i think he would be a great addition and i also think the owners and brendan will suprise evryone including the media and fergi mancini arsen i think we will have a good addition to the squad even if it not a big name i think it will be somebody young and verey exiting so everbody needs to belive and good things come to those who wate well we been wating so come on brendan and give us good football and lots of goals i think this our time to finally get things right.
