Absolutly made up for the Yanks, some people are still not convinced by them, but I for one like them. They really care for the club and most pleasingly the fans. The fact Werner even drank out of the cup was nice to see, nice to hear what they said about the fans. I think they really deserve this, long may it continue!

Congrats to JWH and TW and FSG - they have come in and turned the club around off the pitch, and played a massive role in turning it around on the pitch too by backing Kenny and Comolli. They deserve the trophy as much as anyone and it is good to see them rewarded for their investment, outlay and faith. I have been a fan of them since day one, and hope they are here for a considerable amount of time yet.

not a rumour. I feel that we are only 2 or 3 players away from having a team that could win the PL. We need a forward that scores 20+ goals a season(Rush Aldridge Owen) Our great teams always had one. We need a winger as Kuyt is pushing on Maxi may move on and we are light in that position. Any Ideas Eds? {Ed001's Note - I would love Llorente or Higuain as the main striker myself.}

Gaston ramirez would be a good signing. and i hope coates grows into the back up cb role next season.

When did owen score 20?

I'm absolutely over the moon about Sunday and pleased with the amount of effort most of the lads put in that day. But I'm sorry Carroll was not not one of them for effort, whenever Downing put in a good cross right into the danger zone he was seen in the replays slowly jogging and then when the ball was at the foot/head of the clearing defender he suddenly burst to get it! Henderson frustrates me also, not because of effort but his lack of adventure and quick thinking. He has no eye for a defence splitting pass and really posses little quality in attack or defence. The rest of them can be proud especially Skrtel (despite his mistake) and Downing who put in his best performance in a red shirt.

Darrell the red

I disagree, henderson showed plenty of times for sunderland and a couple of times for us this season that an eye for a killer pass is exactly what he has... he's probably just struggling to adjust to the heightened pressure brought by more expectant fans.
Of course it wasn't his best game, but it was his first ever cup final and he's only young, lets give the lad a chance to show what he can develop into

x

Disagree maybe if other players got in box for crosses so it was not carroll v 5 or 6 he might get a chance when your on own its hard.... if scum or spuds cross ball there always 4-5 players in box if downing crosses ball theres only ever 1.....and remember the chance in last minute cardiff had to win game, well who was it busting a gut to throw himself in front of it and put striker off, it was carroll give the bloke a chnace hes been injusred and only just getting back to fitness, judge him next year if hes still here.

Henderson is better than most people on his day. but Kenny should stop playing him out wide he needs to be playing in the middle to get the best out of him.

As for effort, carroll was great on sunday. i have seen one person mention that he was the one that closed down miller please correct me not sure on his name. but if not for carroll at the end of the match the cardiff player would have had time and found his spot. carrolls going in the right direction.

Hi Eds just wondering could ye answer something for me, why is club who announce pre tax losses include purchases but not sales of Players, surely it would be a truer figure with both or has it go to do with installment payments ?

Rebel_Red {Ed002's Note - Any accounts presented will include all income from player sales and purchases within that period.}

Ed this time next tear will liverpool be making profit or loss?? with all the new sponsorships etc? {Ed001's Note - that is an impossible question to answer, it will depend on so many things, it might take a bit longer than that to get the club into the black.}

I thought it was great to see how all the players celebrated together and were all having a laugh and joking with eachover having won the Carling Cup. Suarez getting soaked in beer, all drinking champaigne out of the cup, pile ons at the end walking around singing and watching the fans sing YNWA. The experinced foriegn lads getting the youngsters involved and just the happiness as they all lifted the trophy aloft. Dirk loves the club you could tell from his reaction. I know people will say "all teams will be happy to win trophies" but they all seemed especially happy and the whole squad seemed to be together. Whilst in the past there have been big divisions. Never really realised what a laugh Maxi was! Kissing the camera, soaking people with beer and champaigne.lol. Has everybody seen the videos inside the dressing room om LFC.TV? Really good to see. Lucas seems to be making great progress walking fine, surely won't be long til he returns, mabye before the season ends. Team spirit is crutial for sucess, look at Chelsea lol.

I must say I am so chuffed to have seen the mighty red lift the cup on Sunday! I forgot what it felt like! Well done red men!

I'm not going to moan like a lot of the other fans on the site at the moment but I do have a couple of things I'd like to see for the rest of the season.

1 - A faster counter attack, recently we have been allowing teams time to get players back behind the ball and therefore making them harder to break down!
2 - better positioning off the ball from andy carroll! For someone short on goals I'd expect him to be glued to the 6 yard box, when he is often seen outside the 18 yard box.
3 - a but more urgency closing the opposition down in midfield and not giving them the space to get deep into our half

I still think we have a shot at 4th but think nipping the above in the bud will go a long way towards helping!

Danski

No.1 bothers me the most lol

28 Feb 2012 20:16:35
I'd rather have a different player stepping up in every game than just depending on the likes of Gerrard/Suarez to do it everytime, so all the moaners who blame our players for being inconsistent, shut up and get behind the team. 4th spot is ours to lose and I'm sure our players have the same thought in the back of their minds.

Hey guys I'm going to the game Saturday,
Any recommendations where to go before the game for a pint and good atmosphere?

I should be at anfeild around 10ish

Cheers lads

G BOX

The King Charles on Thirlmere road is a nice little pub, good beer and good atmosphere. You'll find it to the left of the Kop about 300 yards.

Sooty

One of the two pubs outside the kop end of the ground will do the job.

I normally go in the Albert its a decent pint and atmosphere and normally you get to the bar quite quick as its good service. mighty reds.

Carra acted like a prat having another barney with a presenter who bated him about his career nearing the end. Any Liverpool fan who honestly wants the slow overrated hoofer .Who owes Big Sami a hell of alot.Since the finn retired, it's easy to see that he carried the mouthy scouser through is career. He has scored more own goals than any other defender.I am not a lfc fan ,but the way you lot rate this gob on legs is a joke, nothing but a mouthy Hoofer.

Tell ithowitis

What a prat, obviously a Manc, yeah carra is nearing towards the end of his career, but if that joker burton had spoke to me like that, he'd have got a gob full

Why on earth do you let comments like these come through Edd? These idiots who come on OUR page and say something just for a reaction. We should ignore the cretin and not reply. And before anyone says thats exactly what i'm doing, your wrong. Im speaking to Edd.

Taffytel {Ed001's Note - it gives all the intelligent people something to laugh at, though I suppose it is not good to laugh at the stupid.}

He was baited by the t*sspot reporter, how else did you expect him to react?

He was over the moon then someone tries to lower him, it's like you sleeping with a girl/lad that you love for ages only for him/her to say this is as far as it goes between you.

Reality
In their first full season Adam Downing Carroll Henderson won their first Cup.. You can only win 3-4 trophys in a season and we have won one, with a decent yet a little nervous performance.., they'll all be better for it.., as we all know winning is a habit.., ask any of the players if they'd swap a medal for 4th, can't stick that on the mantle place. Attracting new oversees players.., surely they'd want to be in finals.., yep think so. Clubs are starting to take all the cups seriously which is what we all grew up with.
A great first season with at times excellent football and a cup..
Good times

Some of the people on this site are embarassing to all true Liverpool fans around the world. We win a trophy at Wembley and still people moan. What more do you want? How about you support the team and the players. Also those who say you shouldn't follow "blindly" is stupid. I'm a fan and love Liverpool Football Club. The greatest club in the world. I'd support us if we were in the Confrence and support the manager and team like I do now. Why should I question the players or the manager? If they put all they can into a game for the good of the club that is all we can ask for. Henderson never stops running he gives his all week in week out and needs the supporters to get behind him. Let's beat Arsenal on Saturday and go and take 4th and win the FA Cup.

28 Feb 2012 17:08:07
I think it would be ridiculous to sell Kuyt in the summer. The only possible advantage of selling him would be to make some money, but I doubt if we would get more than 5-6m for him, and the advantages of keeping him far outweigh that.
He has never been prolific but he always scores IMPORTANT goals - Champion League semis (and against AC mIlan in the final we lost), Carling Cup final, plea he consistently scores against the Mancs, and has a good record in the derby. His attitude is a model for all the younger players, and I believe he is widely liked throughout the squad.

Obviously he's not going to be first name on the team sheet anymore, but if he doesn't mind playing a bit part (and from what he said in interviews at the weekend he clearly wants to stay) then we could do a lot worse than keep him as a third or fourth choice striker/cover for the right wing, expire penalty taker and general super-sub.
-SH-

Yh he shud definetely stay. I can only see him leaving if he wants 2 play 1st team football elsewhere.

abz-lfc

The thing is, wages are an issue at any football club, and we need a few more players in the team. I too hope that we keep Kuyt as back-up, but not at the expense of signing a right-winger, for example

Red Ollie

Kuyt is a good player but not consistent enough to win titles. But always pops up in big games. so its a tough one. mighty reds.

28 Feb 2012 17:37:30
Ed what do you think Kenny needs to do to make suarez score goals like he did for Ajax? Im not slagging him off im his biggest fan he just seems to do lots of work but with little end product and i would love him to hit form to prove all his doubters wrong. {Ed001's Note - I doubt he ever will, the Dutch league is much weaker, he just needs to pass more and not try quite so hard to score.}

Shame he has been amazing in every league he has played in...Just really hope your wrong Ed

MJ

He needs more time to settle in. He didn't play that well on Sunday but still had a one cleared off the line had another couple of efforts saved. Look at Van Persie he hasn't always been this prolific or consistent.
Suarez is a great player just give him time to settle in and decent strike partner.
kidmillions

6 inches and Suarez would have another 8 - 10 goals this season already. He will start scoring regularly sooner or later

heres what i tell to people when they say Carling Cup, is a 'Mickey Mouse' Cup.

So we won it, we are crowned as 'Mickey Mouse' i guess?

Cardiff came second, lets call them 'Minnie Mouse' maybe? the nearest to Mickey i guess?

well then, what do call other teams that couldnt even make it to the finals then?

i am pretty sure they're nowhere near disneyland.

Fact is you drew with a mid table championship side.

to the guy who posted this, i never said that my whole life. i always wanted us to win it. a trophy is a trophy.

Not Minnie...Goofy it is. Well at least it gives us a place in Europe Disneyland if we fail to achieve 4th place.

28 Feb 2012 15:24:36
Ok so we may not get into the champions league next year as it's a tall order. It's possible but Arsenal & Chelsea will soley be focused on this - and anyway if one was to get in let it be Arsenal and here's my point. Chelsea and Man City will not be allowed to play in Europe the following season as they are not within the new financial legislation. One of the reasons AVB has not been fired as it will cost a further 25m from their already over stretched plan.
So as long as our house remains in order which it is we can get 6th next season and quality for the CL so let's carry on winning cups galore as being at Wembley on Sunday was such a great day!

Nonsense - if Citeh can get away with the Etihad sponsorship, Chavski will get Abramovich's Gas company to sponsor them to make up any shortfall. We need to get 4th or up and make it on merit, not rely on UEFA rules.

What a load of rubbish. Hoping for teams not to be allowed in a competition (even though there is no chance they wont be) just so your poor team can be in it, are you serious?

GDS

We do not need others to be kicked out for us to qualify for any competition. i seriously hope this post is a joke, a bit like the ffp rules. your opinion of the game carries about as much weight as the penalties for spending too much. zilch.
you my nameless poster are a moron.
we are liverpool and earn our place in everything

now f3ck off

taffytel

Na, Man City will sell a Golden leafed scarf to an Arab for 300million and they'll be sorted!

Ahoy - taffytel

Are you saying that it would be impossible for you to ever follow a club that was granted a "Special Dispensation" to play in the Champions League ?

It certainly hasn't bothered me for the past 6 years even though we got beat twice by Benfica in the first knockout stage. !!!!!!!

BOILED ONIONS

I'm saying that my ambition for Liverpool FC is to finish in 6th place and let the teams above us, who quite rightly have been better over the course of the season keep spending and improving, and pray they are barred from participating in Europe. what a pathetic statement.
And if thats the case we just as well shut this site down as their won't be any transfer rumours. Lets do a Villa and sell our best players to other teams. who knows we might finish mid table and still qualify for champions league.
And for the record ONION, his comment made me boil. Talk about negative. I truly expect us to be 4th this year, but if we don't i sure as hell won't want the owners not to buy and improve the team so we qualify for FFP.

Having been to the game on Sunday and watched from the stands (albiet having had a few drinks on the way down) I decided to watch the match again yesterday as I had recorded it. Now maybe it was the drink (hopefully not) or maybe it was just the tension/hope/belief we would win that I felt we hadn't played that well and it was a tight game all round.

However, having watched it again, I feel we were more in control than I thought on Sunday, in terms of attempts, possession etc. I also noticed that, in my opinion, that generally all the players had a half decent game. The only player who struggled was Henderson and given he was played out of position, in his fist final, that can be forgiven. I though Skirtel and Downing were fantastic on the day with the later just edging my MOM.

I was also impressed with the hold up play (when we found him with the right ball!) and general contribution of Andy Carroll.

As I have said before there are clear signs of a partnership developing with him and Luis. Would also like to point out that when Miller missed that chance at the end of the game, which player was quickest to react and close him down, which I think forced Miller to act quicker than he would have liked, yes A Carroll!!

In his first full season Kenny has delivered a trophy, maybe 2 eventually who knows. We still have 14 games to go to chase down 4th spot and this is one team that will not be alllowed to sit back and give up.

I have also noticed other teams fans posting about the mickey mouse cup, etc. Ask any Arsenal fan if they would have love to have flet like we did when that last penalty was missed? or any Chelski fan if they would like to swap Sunday for Napoli? As for the mancs, suddenly the Europa Cup is THE biggest competition in the world - just about sums them up!

Keep the faith red men, it's a start of a long journey, one that has started with a trophy! 4th place, nah, give me days like Sunday any time, 4th and higher will come when we are ready! - TMac

Another classic post TMac. Love your positive attitude. I was also "off my rocker" but I will watch the match again as a sober person and have an actual opinion. A trophy is a trophy mate, no matter how it is played out in the end. I'd rather win the Carling Cup than nothing. I don't understand why people are so downhearted about the fact that we won.

BthekingB

Carroll didn't have good game, if we had decent centre forward or even Kuyt upfront with Suarez we'd won in 90 minutes I've got no doubt.
kidmillions

Blind loyalty to incompetent players..a very patronising post in my view and that sums up majority of what is seen on this site.

Cardiff are not a Prem team, and could have won it in normal time, so to say that Liverpool played well is balls.

Liverpool did not play well and Cardiff did.

Not to say that Cardiff are anywhere nearly as good a Liverpool - I am not a reds fan... obvioulsy.

I watched the game and have to say that at times Liverpool dominated the game, which was to be expected, but never really looked like they were going to punish Cardiff who looked comfortable at the back and were happy to defend when they scored

Cardiff, who lets face it are as good as any of the current bottom 5 prem teams were able to match Liverpool in MF for much of the game and passed the ball well. Also, Liverpool were not solid at the back and Miller missed 2 good chances to affectivly win the match.

Turner was outstanding for Cardiff and would be worth a punt by any prem team- and lets face it matched Suarez who was poor.

This was a classic get stuck in match and I am not sorry to say that I cheered for Cardiff throughout the match - underdog mentality. But yeah Liverpool won, not deserved, but they still won. One more cup than their rivals and that is all that matters... is it not?

Or would you swap the league cup for a deffo 4th place finish?

Good post, and i agree fully

Sorry TMac but Carroll was very poor, I was expecting better to be honest considering his recent form was more encouraging

Chris in Tamworth

So all the none Liverpool fans are having a pop for us not smashing Cardiff, rich that from any Arse fans who lost last year's final despite being overwhelming favourites or a Utd side that lost at home to a side beaten by Cardiff on route to the final. Don't get me wrong I would love Champions League football again. However, if we don't achieve that we have won 1 of the 3 trophies available to us, maybe yet 2 this year.

Any fan who would take 4th every year over winning trophies has in my view lost what football is all about, it's about winning trophies not finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th! Remember what Shanks said, this club is about winning trophies!

By the way a centre forward is a good as the service he gets, can you honestly say he has received great service all year? -TMac

To the two nameless negative troll, its obvious u two had a bad childhood and hate everything that's associated with u, Go and get a proper life.

Chris, change your record or your nappy, either would be a welcome move away from your anti-Carroll moaning. So boring now.
Milamber

Chris, change the record mate, you're as bad as Ash and Red Turk, we get it you dont like him, square peg round hole blah blah blah blah, what exactly did he do wrong on sunday? Or has he sleep with your wife?
Andy C

I was also at the game and have watched it since, I am delighted with the win but thought we were very average and predictable to be honest, we did not close down at all and allowed Cardiff to much space, it reminded me of us v utd in the fa cup, utd had the ball all first half but didn't look like doing anything and you knew what was coming...

Also people saying Carroll was poor and we would have won if kuyt started with Suarez needs to look at Suarez performance, worst I've seen him play...

But the important thing is we won and got a trophy, also we won despite playing poor, conceding last minute and missing the first two penaltys, that's shows character to me...

Coleen Rooney has recived death threats on twitter for congratulating liverpool's win. What a sad bunch of mancs.

Not seen Oliver Holts pages from some of us then!!
Claiming the moral high ground
Double standards or what!!

Grow up Red raj. Every club has a minority of bad apples who arent even real fans. This whole routine that keeps being repeated where fans of both clubs attempt to delfect attention by more or less saying "yeah but they did it first" reminds me of when my neices and nephews are being told off for arguing and they try to blame one another. Quite frankly its pathetic. If you insist of generalisation by the use of twitter then how about looking at some of the filth from apparant "fans" of all clubs that is posted on there. You people need to stop searching the internet for every vile human who aligns themself with United. It is the equivalent of me saying all Liverpool fans are racist. Its absurd.

We won.

OK shallow types; it wasn't the 'brush them off whitewash' some people seem to be assuming it would be (why? Its a final - people play much better or worse through nerves and energy).

Point i wanted to make though is Downing was motm. And Johnson played well.

Surely a good thing? That we have different players step up for different games and we have a chance of each member of the squad being motm? Isn't this a good thing?

One thing i noticed is there were periods we weren;t quite breaking Cardiff down and the team as a whole kept passing to Gerrard so he could score a 'wonderfinalgoal' that was his trademark but just didn't happen on sunday. I would even argue that Carroll wasn't on fire for similar reasons, he kept seeming to leave things to Suarez to finish (which is a shame as i really have a lot of hope for Carroll and i am not ashamed to say it)(it used to feel like a guilty secret that sort of a confession).

Torres 2/3 years ago was brilliant - but every time he was injured I know i felt like we had no-one to fill his boots. Gerrard will still be amazing, but will have off games. However if we can have players who come in and perform instead then fine - we win, job done.

I hate to say it but ManU do this and have done this for years, even when Ronaldo was there they weren;t a one man (and one man only) team - for the club to be successful we need to have a strong squad with lots of different types of players that can perform with a different motm each week.

I know the fantasy is to have a team of the best players in the world in each position each and every week but its worth saying even Messi has off days.

We won. Job done.

Get in.

Joff

I did realize about the gerrard trademark thing, but what made me think was, why did he try to place it, instead of hammering the ball? his trademark is not the amazing curl shot, but the thunderous bolt shot. but we still won :D

Kaizer

Sorry, Championship side... Downing plays well... yeah he is a really good player.

Sorry no, his crossing is hit and miss. One match he can cross world class balls and you can see why he gets intot he England squad... The next match he is poor at best and you wonder how he got into the Boro squad...

Liverpool need to buy players that play well consistently. Henderson again, plays well one match not the next. Where is the form?

Danny guthrie does not get into the Newcastle squad. When Tiote was away he played and got motm and was class in the games he played, he cost little or nothing... where did they sign him from again?

Liverpool have paid over the odds for players who are average... Leeds did a similar thing. Lets hope for your clubs sake that you start to buy better players otherwise your owners may stop buying unless players are sold.

Who would pay top cash for carol now? 10 mil tops... 2.5 f that goes back to newcastle. Henderson - 7 mil tops. Dowing again 7 mil tops.

How much was scotty parker?

Doesn't matter how much scott parker is, he's nearly 32, so Spurs will get a couple of years from him, we plan a lot more with our players

Oh dear a spurs fan on here giving us stick a couple of days after they were walloped by their fiercest rivals! I wouldn't worry about our players mate, I mean old 'arry was desperate to sign at least 2 of them! So by your reckoning they can't be that bad can they. But while were on about players, lets have a quick look, Keeper, 40+, Ledley (good player) but really how long left?, Parker 2, 3 years max? up front, defoe, nah, adebayor, on loan, will you agree money/wages, who knows. So effectively there is the spine of your team, short term or loan players..........now onto us, top keeper, only 28, Skirtle/Agger, enuf said, Adam/Lucas young enough to improve. Stevie, enuf said (again) up front Luis, Carroll, both young and potential to improve. You see we are more than happy with our progress under Kenny, 14 months in a trophy, Old 'Arry, 3 years in no trophy......mmmmmmm - TMac

Hi everyone!

Do you think Andy Carrol will get the call to go to Euro 2012?

No . .

Though he has a chance to prove himself, as the things stand in current, I doubt that he'd be there. But hoping that the best is about to come from Andy. YNWA

Doubt it, but if he goes on a scoring run and builds on some of his recent performances, there's a chance. But even if he did I doubt Stu Pearce would still pick him as he is a pretty terrible manager.

RedSG

As a LFC supporter first and foremost I could not care less as long as he gives us his best

Bobby Zamorra for me, he is the classic CF and can hold the ball up. No pace, but Engand lack his type of player...

If carol stops boozing then maybe he can make it.

I'm hearing Agger has a broken rib?

If so it will be interesting what effect carra coming back into the defence will have. Skytel has been epic alongside Agger but is this down to the understanding between the players or genunine improvement in both. Personally I think it is a bit of both.

What do you think are the chances of Kelly playing a few CB?

Discuss:

PDUK

Personally if Agger is out I would play Kelly instead of Carra.
Carra has experience but is slow and pulls us back to the defend on the edge of our own box. Kelly has pace and skill deserves his chance at centre back.
kidmillions

What about Coates?

You know what I had totaly forgotten about Coates when I was posting! Yeah he needs time....

PDUK

If Agger is out then Coates has to play. Carra nowhere near good enough anymore and hasn't been for nearly 3 years.

To all those 'fans of clubs who seek to mock the League Cup and our success and spouting it's more important and a better success to finish 4th in the Premier but then go on to struggle in the Champions League group stages; then that's fine, enjoy your time in the Champions League but don't forget to dust down the empty shelves in the trophy room and see how long your star players hang around playing for also-rans.
When we at Liverpool Fc are back in the Champions League it will be as Englands Most successful side in Europe with a team capable of competing and a chance of going all the way.
kidmillions

And don't forget - your team may qualify for the CL one year, but may not qualify for it again the next year!

SingRed

Good point kidmillions.

I personally still want 4th. But i understand ur point. We are still a young and fairly inexperienced team regarding europe. It would be better to play in Europa for one year where pressure is less and most of them including whoever we sign in summer will gain some experience and concentrate more on the league rather than europe and try to finish as good position as possible and gain confidence in their ability. This would be better rather than go to CL with most of them having no Europe experience and do a Manu or City and take a blow to confidence and mess up our league position. Its should be step by step rather than try to jump 2-3 steps at one time and break our teeth.

Don't get me wrong i want to see my club playing the highest level possible, but thats only because for the love of my club, but most of the people are obsessed with so called "World Class" players who some really don't want to play for our club (likes of hazard who only wants to play for money) want to join the club but not that our club deserves to be in CL. But thats FIFA generation for u.

AJ

SingRed: That's true of all teams, some teams go through a bad time and get relegated and then come back all the stronger for it.
Do you remember manu getting relegated?
My point is, we are coming back stronger because of adversity. And when we take part in the Champions League we will compete and not just make up the numbers.
kidmillions

AJ Exactly, I do want to finish at least 4th but if we didn't; the Europa League can serve the purpose as you state.

I'm extremely pleased with the win - Thanks to Stevie and Charlie I'd thought we'd lost it so was able to get my heart back beating normally. Many congratulations to Pepe for keeping up his magnificent record of not having saved a penalty in three years.
Dutchmal

Congratulations to dutchmal for keeping up his magnificent record of not not making a post without a negative comment ever

Didnt pepe save the third penalty?
Indian Buzzer

And rooney's last year.

The third penalty was missed by Gestede, Indian Buzzer. Steven Gerrard's as the only one saved. Pepe Reina came to Liverpool with a reputation for saving penalties - a reputation that he has not lived up to. He has conceded 28 goals from the spot, saved 2 (the last one on 13th August 2008), stopped ONE (the one from Rooney who scored the rebound) and seen one missed by Defoe. 29 goals out of 32 attempts is not the mark of a great penalty-saver.
Liverpool have in fact missed more penalties this season than Reina has saved in 344 matches spread over the last seven seasons. By the way, a double negative = a positive so it is quite possible that you are really agreeing with me. Can you confirm this, please?
Dutchmal

Only two of Cardiffs penalties was on target, so stop your moaning you sound like a woman.

I you dislike LFC so much please support someone else i'm fed up of reading your constant moaning.

MR EM

Have you considered that perhaps Reina's reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and a good penalty saver is one of the reasons the Cardiff players were trying so hard to place the ball so precisely into the corners of the goal and lead to them either hitting the post or putting it wide?

JRG

Fa cup final 2006? zamora, ferdinand konchesky

Dutchmal, if you look at Cardiff's 3rd spot kick by Gestede, you can see the ball was pushed by Reina's fingertips

SingRed

Geremi, Robben 07 champions league semi.
Kanu against portsmouth, one vs standard liege

Strewth, Im not a liverpool fan and have a go at your club now and again... but with fans like that who needs rivals? fill the away end with liverpool fans who do not like the club...

READ THE LAST LINE OF THE ORIGINAL POST AGAIN! His last penalty SAVE was on 13th August 2008. It is now 28th February (or 27th to you lot) 2012 which makes it more than three and a half years ago.
MR EM - You comment is jingoistic and sexist and not of these times. The gender of any poster is unimportant. I also think you owe an apology to one of finest of our editors (in my opinion actually THE finest) Ed002 for reasons that even an person like you might understand!

JRG - I think that you are wrong.

SingRed - I know that you are wrong - Reina was near but not near enough (as usual)!

Finally - Liverpool is in my blood, in my heart, and in
my soul and very much like a good wife - get's on your nerves quite a lot but you will always love her like no other!

Is Agger out of the Arsenal game ?
The Real KB

One month out.

Damn. well then i hope coates gets some game too, carra too. both of them deserves to play.

Kaizer

Draw written all over it... hopefully they will both loose.

Toonal ;p

Reina was bought for two things in particular. Firstly his ability to shot-stop. He is the best goalie of that type since Schmeical. He comes of his line at lightning speed, gets down quickly or makes himself big. Secondly - and this he is absolutely brilliant at, ball distribution. Penalty stopping was never on the list of his big skills.

To the person that put a post up on sunday saying that sports direct had a promo on lfc shirts thanks as i managed to get 2 lfc shirts the red one and the gray one with delivery for £13 what a result.

As did I,

No, thank you liverpool fans for giving Newcastle more cash to spend on players that no one has heard of, who then turn out to be class...

And then some other club comes along a snaps them up ye great aint it ha ha ha

Just watched a replay of the penalty shootout against Cardiff - Pepe did make a save against their 3rd kicker with a fingertip push to the post. Don't believe me? watch it again closely...you'll notice the ball deflecting slightly

SingRed

MY GOD. can i get someone else to confirm this? i am pretty sure i saw the ball deflecting just a little bit. just that tiny itty bit! nice one SingRed, if it is true i mean. and the way Pepe reacted was as if he actually did save it.

Kaizer

No.

Just a thought- if we'd beaten Cardiff on penalties at Anfield in the third round and Chelsea in London in the final, would there be the same misery surrounding a trophy win?

Very good and intelligent point

Lovin' the logic... good observation.

Fair play to Torres he didnt have to tweet his congratulations to LFC and the fans but he did!
And we should forgive the lad for leaving he is a natural born winner,he had to leave to win trophies that was never gonna happen at LFC under KING KENNY.

So cheers to Nando! Lets not hate him for his ambition.
He won nothing at A Madrid and left (they since have won Europa League and Super Cup).

So thanks Fernando I for one know your personal ambition is greater than any club or group of supporters.
YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION AND EXAMPLE AS TO WHAT ANY YOUNG FOOTBALLER SHOULD ASPIRE TO. {Ed001's Note - hahahahaha nice to see Nando's agent is looking at the page......}

El sulko will win bugger all with the chavs - you just watch...it will be the icing on the cake to knock them out in the FA cup semis - just like in CL in 2005!

SingRed

What did he say? i cant find it

I would not rock the boat with tozzer, he may come back and bite you reds on the bum... that is if he plays.

After the match you can slag him all you like... if you win or loose!

He had to leave to win trophies that was never gonna happen at LFC under KING KENNY.
Did Liverpool not just win the Carlin Cup. What has he won with Chelsea. Maybe it isn't a coincidence that Liverpool win the first trophy they have had the opportunity to win since Torres left and before Torres came we won the Champions League and then the FA cup.

Maybe nando is a jinx.

Hey lfc fans

We all know gerrard and adam do not protect the space infron of the back 4 and lucas did all that!

I think our best football comes from 3 in midfield
And I think spearing should play the DM role for the rest o the season and rotate henderson and adam with gerrard

Cos scott parker does more alone defensively than SG and CAdam...

I see what your saying but we are solid defensively. The formation against Cardiff is the way to go for me, we had wave after wave of attack. We need our strikers to score goals.

MIKEY

Give it a try as he's got more energy than either, but he needs to inprove passing and timing of his tackles - everytime he trys a pass over 10m it's intecepted. Needs to keep it simple like Masch did.

Very good post. We've lacked that fluidity to our play since the injury to Lucas. Gerrard & Adam do not have defensive instincts. Liverpool for the rest of the season will be a good functional team until the right players can be bought to improve the team.

28 Feb 2012 09:11:39
Glen Johnson should be our new penalty taker

A right back penalty taker like Phil Neale, one of our best from the past.

THE best ever at Liverpool.

I honestly got no idea why johnson is not liked by most of liverpool fans, for me he is a brilliant guy awaiting to hit his best form

Or Kuyt he has only missed one

28 Feb 2012 09:03:59
Any news on Lucas' injury eds. I think its worth pointing out his involvement in the league cup campaign.

RuncornRed {Ed001's Note - last I heard they were pleased with his progress and hoping he might play again before the season finishes.}

When did he get injured ed? if he manages to plays by the end of the season, im gonna photoshop his photo, add some beards, and call him leiverine.

RIP Alex Jarmay YNWA

A Merseyside man stabbed to death in a London bar had gone to the capital to watch the League Cup final with friends, police said.

Alex Jarmay, 26, from Bromborough, went to watch Liverpool play Cardiff at Wembley Stadium.

The night before the game he was attacked at Bar Uno on Inverness Street in Camden at about midnight on Saturday.

Mr Jarmay was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

A 17-year-old boy and three men, aged 23, 25 and 28, all from London, were arrested in connection with the murder.

Sickening.

just want to say , respect to all our fans from norway , there were loads at wembley on sunday and they love the team well done to them , ynwa.

They guy i sat next to in the stands came from New York just shows how big Liverpool are when fans come from all over the world. Also i saw a lot of fans from Asia.

I saw lads holding homemade cardboard placards that said "travelled 11,000 miles and only looking for 1 x ticket" at the top of Wembley Way. Also I sat under a South African flag, and there was a group of Indonesian lads with a huge banner as well. Fantastic support.

Why do people play down the worth of the Carling Cup? Theres only 3 local trophies to win and to get one of them is a pretty good achievement in my opinion.

Why is the FA Cup considered more glamourous? They are both knockout tournements and just as hard to win, no?

cozinoz

Yeah, I was trying to understand this aswell.

They play it down cause we won it, if man utd won it would be bigger then the champions league

It don't matter which one is bigger if we win both

Red raj

Its probably because the fa cup as always been the fa cup where as the carling as been the rumbelows cup the milk cup and maybe a few others also because the big teams started to use it for young players although this year all the teams we faced had pretty much full strengh teams minus 1 or 2 but its still a cup and we didnt have it easy to win it so it is a good achievement hopefully this is just the start for things to come
giblet

The prize money for the FA cup is bigger, but that's literally the only difference.

Bigger trophy aswell I guess {Ed001's Note - the fact that every team in the English FA's league system can enter the FA Cup, while the League Cup is only open to the 92 in the Prem and Football League, is quite a major difference as well.}

And the fact the FA cup is the oldest cup competition in the world. But yeah the league cup is still silverware and its great to have some!

PDUK

Yeah I find it funny that now Liverpool have won the League Cup it becomes a 'Mickey Mouse' trophy, despite the fact that we beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge & the best team in the country, Man City over two legs on the way. Strange how the League Cup wasn't a 'Mickey Mouse' trophy back in 2006, 2009 & 2010 isn't it?

28 Feb 2012 05:31:39
Martin Skrtel picked up his second piece of silverware in two days today as the Liverpool central defender was named Slovakian player of the year.

The 27-year-old - who wins the award for the third time after winning in 2007 and 2008 - beat Napoli attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik and another Italy-based midfielder Juraj Kucka of Genoa in the vote.

Skrtel, who scored in Liverpool's League Cup victory over Cardiff on Sunday, ending a six-year trophy drought for the English giants, has been at Liverpool since 2008 after four seasons with Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg, with whom he won the 2008 UEFA Cup. - FIFA.com

Congratulations Martin the Terminator! Our rock in defence! Icing on the cake for a magnificent season and on course for LFC Player of the Year! Looking forward to seeing you outscore that chav ladyboy!

'I do not like naming names, I can only say there's many clubs who follow him, not just Manchester United,' said Heitz.
A box-to-box central midfielder with an excellent passing range, Xhaka is almost certain to leave Basel in the summer, but Liverpool know they must act quickly to secure his services, with Hamburg willing to enter a bidding war to get their man.
Xhaka currently has six caps for Switzerland, and has been tipped as a future captain of the national team.

I would take sissoko over him but he does look a good player

Just some random stuff re CC final.

1. Credit to Cardiff, not only for spirit and resolve but for fact they set up in an attacking formation - it made for a fantastic final and i hope they get promoted soon.

2. Huge credit to Glen Johnson ... I posted several months ago about who shud take pens in a shootout and who you would hate to take one ... one of the Eds said Johnson wud screw kick up but that was a class pen on Sunday. Oh I said I wudn't want Skrtel taking a pen but since then he's turned into a proper striker lol.

3. Huge credit to either Suarez or whoever prevented Suarez from taking a penalty ... good call.

4. Made up for Kuyt ... not had great season but did so much in 18 mins on field, scoring, hassling defenders, goaline clearance and 1st converted pen.. legend.

5. I see media, other fans and even sum of our own have been saying we were average and only win finals on pens etc... well in the League it's always the cliche that a title winning side is the side that can win when not playing well, isn't it. Not only that you have 4 or 5 games to get to a final as well so we have played well. And it must show resolve that we still win so many finals whilst being supposedly average.. oh and our last 3 trophies are (in most people's opinion) the best Champ Lge final ( poss ever), the best FA cup final for the past 10/15 years and now prob the best CC final in last 10 yrs .. and thats why it makes these acheivements stay in the memory longer.

6. Chuffed for Downing, cutting inside, taking fullbacks on, dribbling, offloading ball when needed, sum tricks, decent crosses and if not a cross winning corners .. carry on and we might not need a winger.

7. The sooner Henderson is played consistently in CM instead of RM the better for both LFC and him.. he can be a quality player but is not suited to RM.. I'd play Kuyt for that position over him every time.

c'mon u mighty reds

hey ed,
what is your take on moussa sissoko?
do you think he would fit into our team and would make a good signing?
as ed022 says he may not be a good signing as he is too inconsistent.
Cheers,
Josh {Ed001's Note - I think he is an excellent player, but I would personally prefer to go for broke and get Javi Martinez for central midfield. I don't see a better one outside of Barcelona and Madrid's midfields, than Martinez. He is the only one I have seen that could replace Gerrard. I remain unconvinced by Sissoko, but attacking players can be less consistent, you are far more reliant on your team mates getting you the ball to show what you can do.}

Do u think we will bring Gaston Ramirez for that position. He too would be very good, and also versatile and most importantly no need to break the bank for him. I know there are other priorities and i too would like us first to concentrate in them before this position, but if we manage to get someone like him our team will be completed and we could pretty much have a good chance even for challenging the title, let alone top 4.

AJ {Ed001's Note - can't Ramirez also play right wing? I am sure I remember seeing him play there. If so, that is very much a priority position and so it would make sense to buy him and he does seem a very likely signing. The interest is there from us and seems to be there from him as well.}

I thought u also said we are chasing Matt Phillips. So is it one of those two or both. I prefer both since they are both different players. Philips is pretty much traditional British RW while Ramirez is pretty much a Silva/Mata/Nasri mould player. What is u opinion ed, Thanks.

AJ {Ed001's Note - there are hundreds of players that we are looking at mate, I think Phillips is the more likely signing, we have a very good relationship with Blackpool. But I wouldn't be surprised if we got both, or at least tried to.}

Ed001, sorry to be a night pest, i too believe that martinez is a world class talent with everything in his locker, the question im asking is were we ever on the brink of signing martinez, i know benitez had his eyes on him from some time from a young age, but was there ever a deal in place ready to go a la silva and alves or have we maintained intrest for a large period of time? i would be absolutly gutted if martinez was to go to a man city or suchlike, i feel he is the missing link in the midfield. thanks for you time ed, very much appreciated

Red Maverick {Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, we have never been close to signing him, hopefully this summer will change that!}

Hey ed, do u see us moving for martinez n hazard even if we dont make the top4 this season? Even one of those two will do.
Indian Buzzer {Ed001's Note - I would love us to move for Martinez, but it would take far too much to tempt Bilbao to sell him I expect. As for Hazard, he is just a mercenary trying to get anyone to buy him, he is not the type of player we are buying these days.}

Why would we go for martinez when we have that talent called henderson!!
