26 Jul 2012 21:45:47
Why,why, why does everyone in the media want to harp on and on about Beckham at every opportunity when team GB are playing? There is no way he deserves to be there from a purely football perspective and what's more which of our 3 over age players would he replace? Richards who was possibly our best player? Giggs whose free kick lead to the goal? Or Bellamy who actually scored? The BBC and journalists need to give it a rest before the whole Olympics are ruined for everyone by it becoming all about Beckham

Richards is massively over rated. Reason why he can't get into the England squad.

26 Jul 2012 21:45:21
15m for Allen? No thanks, 5m at most. He's no better than Spearing/Adam/Henderson/Shelvey

Okay have you actually watched him. he is a very good player with potential to be great.
derryred

For me Allen is a British Lucas. Im happy with that.

Shows you how much of a bargain Lucas was.

Agree at least some one speaks sense!

Allen is average nothing compared to Lucas.

BR - gotta tenner on that he'll quit within the year....

Rafa come back.....

Greg

Pissed your money away there mate. Put another tenner on Rafa coming back if you wana piss away more money. Probably get good odds on Torres, Masch and Alonso coming back as well.

Oh dear. Eds why is this trash even allowed to be posted.

Interesting pic of Suarez and Ramirez, Do they know something we don't?

They're simply posing for a picture for suarez to put on his twitter.

Both of them must be singing for Juve. Quite obvious from that pic.

They're both going to Juventus.

im confused .....is Allen a defensive midfielder. Also he doesnt look that creative as many people have been saying he is. Cant see him improving the team ......dont get me wrong ill support him in an lfc shirt but surely for 15 million there are far better options.

He's playing a more defensive role for GB. He does naturally play a lot more offensively.

I bet BR thought signing him would be a fairly easy affair, Liverpool should employ more effort elsewhere. The Adam signing was just as painful, the player wants to move to a big club the club wants more money and to make it hard for Liverpool to get in their own fans good books. Why can't we find some honest swap deals that are mutually beneficial city and Chelsea signings that never get a kick all season deserve all the misery they get the greedy swines.

He is in the xavi mold like a make shift defensive / creative yet very much central midfielder

Lol yet more silly people comparing such an average player to Xavi it is so embarrassing.

26 Jul 2012 21:28:34
Joe Allen for Liverpool. Absolute rubbish. Another Poulsen. How the mighty have fallen.

Poulson is better.

26 Jul 2012 21:20:58
Joe allens done his knee, he ain't going to pool, unless we by him while he's injured like we did with big andy carroll

He took a knock.

I seriously hope its not too bad and wish him all the best

Please could we start a new thread/forum for all the moaners? Its getting a little dull. I think they should be allowed to all post together in one sad little Liverpool Moan section. Thanks. Pete

Most of them aren't liverpool fans, which is so obvious from their posts. Mainly trolls and 'supporters' of other clubs just bored from being off school and needing something to do now that they've run out of crayons. More to be pitied really

All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing.

Now this quote, although a bit over the top is why people express concerns about things they love. Such as Liverpool fc. So rather than many posters slating those who dare to question some of the recent decisions in our team, maybe you should look at yourselves and ask if blind support is much better.
Blind support over the last 20 or so years has not seen too much success. I mean Konchesky sums it up for me.
So rather than maybe coming on and preaching how much better u are as a fan than these "moaners, so-called fans, trolls, etc. you should start to form ur own opinions on staff, players and potential targets.
Now once the season starts I'll support every player but I'll never stop questioning things if I feel they are not in the best interest of our club.
Jason

A bit over the top? Try effing miles over.

Yeah but the problem is most of the moaners and whiners on here arent giving anyone a chance.
They slate kenny.
They slate fsg for getting rid of kenny. They slate fsg for not having a replacement lined up before getting shot of kenny. Although if they had of they would of cried blue murder at the disrespect of going behind kennys back.
They slate fsg for seemingly having contacted every manager out there for the vacant job (although this turned out too be bull.. clearly)
They slate fsg for not even being able to attract the swansea manager.
They slate fsg for hiring the swansea manager.
They slate BR for not having managed barca or milan before he's even managed a game.
They hammer him for not signing anyone before the transfer window is even open.
They slate him and borini, probably never seen him play.
They slate him for potentially signing allen, or dempsey.
They slate fsg for spending 100m on percieved crap. Yet claim them to be cheap becaue they are being more cautious
They slate carroll
They slate BR for not wanting Carroll.

See how these d***s can get a little depressing.
CQ

Agree , well said , bravo you hit the nail on the head. red mick tag

27 Jul 2012 17:20:36
Everyone is allowed to moan but if you have followed this site for a long time you will realise that this is the most negative pre-season ever. We have been putting up with dross signings ever since the day Souness took over but now it is getting more personal towards FSG, BR

26 Jul 2012 21:13:44
Joe Allen is worth nowhere near 15 million. Why do we always over pay for average players? 35m Carroll 6m Adam 18m Downing 20m Henderson 6m Coates 11m Borini. Its no wonder FSG are being stingy with the money this year. Jamie

Adam £6 million? I thought we paid more for him but for that price he is a bargain actaully. Problem is some of you are too fickle and impatient

gareth

You are joking about Coates and Borini.Right?

Corvin

Trashing Borini before he has even kicked a ball. Shame on you.

BthekingB

26 Jul 2012 21:10:39
I'm not denying Allen isnt a reasonable player, or keep banging on about how few goals he's scored because hes not that type of player. I'm saying that he is not the type of player we currently need to improve our team. We need a trickster, dribbler, skillful, exciting player who is also considered quality by other big name teams, now if someone can name any british player who fits this bill I will truly be amazed because I can't think of one off my head, which shows we need to abroad.

Pete

Heskey?

gareth

Someone like suarez ? of course i'm not answering the bit about british but you get the point. we should be happy for what we have and not moan about who we don't/ will not have.

Imagine Ramirez scoring a similar taken free kick at old trafford nxt season in a liverpool shirt.

AliGerrard !$!

If we imagine too much and we dont buy him, and he goes to our rivals it will be like having nightmares every night lol! RedTurk

I'd rather it was Suarez

Coyr?? Come onnn...

26 Jul 2012 20:43:22
So rameriez scores a free kick peep would have gathered up. But generally average in a good side. Allan looks solid and keeping gb flowing and none one seems to want him. What I'd his name was Josepo allaniho.....
Redphil

Honestly mate what game u watching? He literally only passes to defenders or tries a cross field ball and gives it away. Be honest at least.
Jason

Joe Allen gets the ball from one centre back then passes it to the next. That's basically all he did. Ramirez played some nice one touch football with Suarez scored a class free kick and looks physically stronger and quicker than Allen.

Allen is average and really over rated glad ppl are starting to notice after i have said it for weeks he is not good enough!

26 Jul 2012 20:39:58
Glad we're not in for sturridge 'cause he has been shocking for team gb, bad control and far too greedy

You mean he's had a bad game. RED LENIN

Such an over rated player.

And correct me if i am wrong but hasn't he just been horribly ill? A condition that many die from in fact?

To be fair this Team Britain game is boring.

Haven't watched Liverpool vs Roma yet.

Think I'm going to put that on instead.

But nice one to Bellamy :)

Tristan

26 Jul 2012 20:33:52
Joe Allen looks a ok player with a gud attitude to the game but what are we thinking looking at another centre midfielder gerrard Lucas aquilani Henderson Adam spearing are giving us enough central options we in my opinion needs wingers

Warrington red

Spearing?? the rest I agree with but I think Joe Allen could play a role next season spearing I'm afraid cannot he doesn't have any skill on the ball, sad to say because he loves the club but what does he bring to the squad?

The phrase "nail on the head" springs to mind! Jayo

He brings depth.

26 Jul 2012 20:32:26

And any ideas of a rough price?
Thanks {Ed002's Note - No, sorry.}

26 Jul 2012 20:15:12
Eds, Is anybody enquiring about Downing I was hoping he would have been offloaded by now.

Its a shame but i think we've been lumbered with him. Can't see him ever getting better.
FowlerGod.

Downing is a fantastic player he just had a bad season that's all. Think of how many times he hit the woodwork if some of those had have gone in, they would have been contenders for goal of the season. Bad luck more than poor performance

26 Jul 2012 20:14:32
Eds an fellow reds, is it just me or are we close to signing another CM yes! Another CM in Joe Allen? We already have 7 first team players that can play there in Gerrard,Lucas,Aquliani,Adam,Shelvey,Henderson,Spearing. Surely one has got to leave?

Also I hear Clint Dempsey deal is off.

BuffersTHEDane

I imagine aquilani and spearing will be sold and shelvey out on loan so what's the problem?
Allen is better than all 3.

MIKEY

In fact we have two who play in that position, Lucas and Spearing.

Ozone

We will play 3 in the middle So we'd have a choice of Gerrard Lucas Allen Shelvey Henderson Suso Adam Spearing and Coady, maybe Cole can play in there if need be. To me thats called having a squad. Aquilani for me will go, he has no desire.

But sure people complained that we didn't buy a holding midfielder last january.

After that performance against Roma I fear for the new season. Woeful passing and defending. I think Rogers is out of his depth and I am beginning to realise that Henry and Werner haven't a clue about football. Kenny should not have been sacked but given more time. Rogers will turn out to be no better than Hodgson. Cannot attract top players anymore. Its Hicks and Gillett all over again. This is not being defeatist just realistic.

Sad attitude in my opinion.
KJS

With how many of the first team in that squad?
its pre season you fool. be a bit more patient and judge the manager and the team after seeing them play competitively

LOL realistic? No suarez, gerrard, borini, johnson, henderson, reina, carroll plus others and you think your being realistic? And you dont finish 8th and get given more time. We had kids playing against a strong roma team who were playing their 6th pre season; Mcaughlin, Suso, Sterling, Gulacsi, Sama, Morgan, Ecclestone etc. Im sorry you say your being realistic but i cant take you seriously at all.

No mate, you have no clue about football.

You've smoked something! We had most of our reserves out all of are key players won't playing rogers has been in the job just over a month don't expect a miracle over night even rogers has said its gonna take some time have faith and it will pay off! Redneck!

I am Jackyll and Hyde with this situation. It is quite easy to denounce the circumstances and pull the performance against Toronto and Roma apart. After watching the Roma game part of me thought it's going to be a similar season to last, lots of ball possession with no end product. Then again on the other side of the flip coin you could argue that Shelvey, Suso, Paccheco and Mclochlan look fantastic prospects. We just need another bit of flair to compliment Suarez.

Ozone

My friend that is absolute nonsense, first of all you can't read anything into that game other than the fact that we did ok considering the players we were missing, yes there were miss placed passes but that's what pre season is for, to iron these things out. Second Kenny not getting sacked?? Did you watch Liverpool last season? Yes we had bad luck but don't ever forget the way that teams like Wigan made us look like a pub team and I'm being kind when I say that. Third Rodgers not better than Hodgson? My god in the first two games of pre season our reserves and youth players have passed the ball better than Hodgson and Dalglish's teams ever did so give the guy a chance. If you can't see what Rodgers is trying to do with the team as I can already then maybe you haven't watched enough football to form an objective opinion.

Its only a pre-season game get over it, we had nowere near our 1st team out.

If you watched the game you would have realised that most of the team sat on the side lines. Reina, Johnson, Kelly, Downing , Gerrard , Henderson , Saurez, Carroll, Borini all unavailable.
Can see your going to be straight on Rodgers back when we lose. Great supporter .

Bilverstone
YNWA
JFT96

Give the manager a chance this is not gonna happen overnight, wil take a few years at least to get right.
don't want to turn into chelsea and change managers yearly

Why is seeing the truth a sad attitude?

What? I thought the youth players played really well and looked promising, it is a pre season game don't be to disheartened.
Skurks

That's the spirit! One pre-season game and Rodgers didn't turn it around so he has to go.... grow up.

We lost 2-1 against a roma side who are 3 games match sharper than lfc and further into their pre season. we also fielded 2 teams absolutely filled to the brim with teenagers? we also had reina, coates, kelly, johnson, henderson, downing, gerrard, carroll, borini & suarez not available to embrace these new footballing philosophy.
other than that, i totally see your point!

Because that was the first 11 that will compete in the coming EPL!!?? You truly take the biscuit for dumb ass post of the day.

dd

Its preseason relax!
sure some sloppy passing but it was a glorified reserve team against what was a pretty full strength roma side for the most part they didnt fair to badly

2 games in charge without most first team regulars. Get behind the team or support someone else!

Why is it that pessimists think they are the only ones who are realistic? They reality is my friend, we havent even assembled the full squad yet, the window hasnt closed and the the owners are not leveraged to the hilt against the club as per H & G. Sad attitude indeed.

Andy K

What the hell are you on about? It's our second preseason game .. We have a handful of the young lads playing, are missing our English squad members plus missing players in the olympics!! We put up a decent performance - back the new manager and the team to the hilt mate for gods sake! What a bulls*** attitude you have mate.

For fans who support our owners and who don't this is what people think about our owners

Tom Werner, We have the money to compete with any team in the world
This piece was on the E Forum.

Mr Werner in all due respects Sir talk is very cheap. You need to back that up, because there is absolutely no way you can compete with the likes of City, Barca, Real M, PSG, or even Man U.

Do you really expect us to believe that you can compete with them in the transfer market for real top class players.

I think you owe us some proof of that statement, because talk is cheap, and we aren't exactly bringing in anyone of note are we?

I should also like to add after the comments you made towards the end of the season about your feelings for the previous manager, that is even more reason not to believe many of your so called Grand Pronouncements.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he said 'resources' to compete, not 'money'. Completely different thing entirely.

26 Jul 2012 20:11:53
With the moaning minnies saying Rodgers only signs players his coached perhaps we'll sign Taylor to replace Enrique. Caulkner to replace Skrtel and Sinclair for Kuyt

Redevon

Hope not to all 3!

Why not just rename Liverpool Swansea and have done with it.

26 Jul 2012 20:07:56
if you were to put downing adam and carroll into spain's euro 2012 team they wouldn't have won the tournament. that's how bad those 3 are. they could make a great team average, so get rid as soon as possible. there's no way we'd get top 4, even if we had suarez jovetic and gerrard linking up because these downing and adam just mess up everything

Moan, moan, moan anybody else losing the will to live?

MR EM

Adam had 11 assists last season, the most out of our entire squad and more than Luca flippin Modric...

I stopped reading after 'if'
'if' is the pointless word in the English language. And particularly so when talking about football.

Let's use it in a positive context just to prove my point.

If we had a better team we'd win the league.

But we haven't. We've got what we've got.

How about rather than constant moaning and criticism of our own players you actually try a bit of optimism?

You never know, you might like it.

Joe

As much as he's moaning, I've got to agree!

Oh why would you say that. if you replaced xavi and iniesta with kagawa and scholes or lampard and mikel or arteta and ramsey then they still wouldn've won it. whats your point?

Hey eds. All I seem to here is that Liverpool are interested in someone then after a week so is Tottenham. It's quite irritating, do they have scouts or do they wait for things to become rumours then copy the other club.

But anyways, Gaston Ramirez has been linked again with us and his agent has said he's in London for talks with a English club. Liverpool and Tottenham are the only potential links. What are the chances that he's on his way to Liverpool? Would hate it for Tottenham to beat us again. {Ed002's Note - Don't read too much in to it just yet.}

Your right Ed, but it's frustrating and a little down heartening when Spuds are nicking players (only one so far I know)Out of interest ed, now Liverpool and spurs are pretty even do you think living in London rather than Liverpool might be a deciding factor? {Ed001's Note - it will depend on the player, every player will have different needs and wants.}

26 Jul 2012 20:00:39
There are a couple of things I just don't understand and I was hoping some of the 'complainers' could explain.

I'm reading a lot of people complaining about Liverpool trying to sign Allen and Dempsey and instead wanting us to sign Ramirez or Mirallas or some other foreign based player that would cost £15m plus.

From what I understand, the vast majority reason that we signed Adam, Henderson, Carroll and Downing from the EPL and they didn't work out after a single full season. So instead of trying to sign more EPL players we should instead go for more exotic sounding players from foreign leagues.

Ok, this is the bit I don't get. People have written off players that we signed after one season because we paid over the odds and on that basis we should not pursue Allen or Dempsey. In the same breath they say they want to see us play Aquilani and literally wet themselves moaning that we don't play him! He's done nothing for Liverpool at all and cost a fortune in both wages and transfer fees (that's why no-one else wants to sign him). They argue he hasn't been given a chance, yet in the same breath write off others that have only played one season? I think we can all learn from Lucas about the virtues of having patience, especially with young players.

Let's take a look at some of our previous foreign league signings and see if the argument that we should instead buy from foreign leagues carries any weight? Babel, Morientes, Dossena, Riera, Kuyt (oooh controversial), Baros and who can forget two of France's most talented youngsters in a long time - Sinama Pongolle and Le Tallec. None of them in my opinion really truly performed, sure they had fits and starts but none of them won us the Premier League.

My long winded point is this; it really doesn't matter where the player comes from. If he's expensive and/or doesn't work out then we've wasted money one way or the other. But to write any player off after one season is idiocy especially if they are in their early twenties! So can we all stop having a moan about us trying to sign Allen, Dempsey or any other player that isn't on your fantasy football wish list? It doesn't matter who we sign or how much they cost. What matters is we offer them our full support because if they sign then they agreed to sign and play for LFC and that used to and still should be enough justification to warrant our FULL support. Judge them after a few seasons, not before they have even had time to settle into the team.

I'm confident that Borini will be a good signing for us. If Allen or Dempsey sign then in today's ludicrously expensive market they will hopefully prove to be good signing's too, but to slag them off because they didn't cost £20m and come from Western Europe or South America is pathetic and has no reasoning whatsoever.

MarkB.

Best comment I've read.....I'm sick of all the complaining too..... Get behind the team and give people a chance.......we are Liverpool fc..... We are one..... Go Liverpool fc

Andy k

Sorry hit post by accident...
...anfield and park the bus. Technically better players will b able to breakdown these defenses.
Also when did scouts become so inept as to whether they could assess if a player could fit into our team. Why do they have to have played in the epl for them to make that decision. Seems like they don't do much these scouts.
Sorry a bit of a tangeant there. So I think we are against the buy British rather than buy the best available. Rather than buy foreign over British.
Jason

Not really, people get criticised because they perform badly week in week out. 1 full season is more than aqualani got playing in a red shirt and when he was playing in a red shirt Liverpool were playing beautiful football. He's come out and said he was forced out on loan and I do believe him because that is in kenny daglish's nature. Adam was his first choice and he had to stick by it. Downing 0 assist 0 goals £16 mill paid for him that deserves critiscm. Andy Carroll 11 goals in 50 odd matches for £35 mill deserves critiscm. Charlie Adam was woeful to watch at times but alas got 6 assist for his 'efforts'. Point being its not only the fans slating these players, it's bbc pundits, commentators l, experienced ex players and most of all other fans. So it's not for no reason mate open your eyes. We finished 8th, last season that's the worst in 54 years... Aqualani has been put out on loan he hasnt been apart of this lfc downfall, he played well for juve and well for AC Milan so he deserves a chance. At the moment Liverpool have two game changers (Suarez and gerrard), Dempsey and joe Allen are not game changers, we're linked with realistic targets that are game changers but no interest in them. This frustrates people as ambition seems lacking. Think before you post another stupid comment

Aquilani is a quality player. Can you honestly say hes been given a chance? He hasnt its as simple as that.

Sorry that makes no sense. The first part of my post got lost.
I was saying in a few more words-
My issue is not that I'd prefer foreign over British, but instead would prefer the best player available regardless of nationality. But our policy seems to be buy a British player of poorer ability over a foreign player because they have epl experience. Makes no sense. The epl is not as physical as it used to b and players of better technical ability are standing out more.
Jason

That's the anfield spirit! & as a wise man once said " it's not where you are from it's where you're at" terrible these welsh players at Liverpool eh? What with rush , toshack ,joey jones & Bellamy.......... Paisley's genius

Mate epl is best league coz of foreign players if you take out foreign players then epl will be same as scotish league just look at top teams in epl they have lots of foreign players coz our players are not good enough
And if you remember mark hughes he bought lots of epl players and couldn't finish in top4 and was sacked then mancini came started buying foreign players and went to win league in short king kenny did the same mistake like mark hughes and same he was sacked now rodgers is doing the same mistake am afraid

Now, someone alse see Gaston Ramirez scorea a absolute free kick cracker today? And joe Allen is worth the same miney as him? For what? His passes and dribbles? Passes and dribbles by themselves help but dont win games. How many gosls has he scored?

Don't freak out over 1 free kick

You should take your keyboard back to the shop, someone has put all the vowels in the wrong places.

JRG

What is so difficult in understanding that they are completely different kinds of players? Gaston is an attacking mid, Joe Allen is not. Is Xavi crap compared to Fabregas? No, they just play different roles.

You are easy pleased pal.

Mighty reds

Am looking forward to seeing Joe Allen tonight . I have a feeling that some people might change there opinion of him . The way I see it is if so many people love Aqua for his vision and passing then I think we will love Allen more as he has vision passing he wins the ball back and he has pace which Aqua hasn't shown any yet . I support Aquillani as he plays for Liverpool but think Allen will offer us more IMO . Come on people we are LFC .

Cheers

He's a centre/defensive mid he's not there to score goals.

He's in machester to be honest, i don't think the other stadiums will be the same

Yes but it's ONLY because of where the game is

Listen if suarez played for man u and he did what he did against one of are players he would get booed at anfield and would you feel sorry for him,no. Suarez is a great player but he is such a t-t at times and were ever he as played he has caused trouble, i have know dout some of the goggle or tinted glasses fans will stick up for him.

Take it as a compliment, the mancs are obsessed with Suarez.

They're obsessed with ANYTHING Liverpool, there's even Manc Fans replying to this post..... Quite a compliment really.

The mancs are envious of him simple as that hes better than any player they have fact even one trick pony rooney who goes missing in all the big games fact

Juve are obsessed with him and will sign him next month.

As last year we are going for "proven" EPL players. Now I dont want to sound negative but didnt we learn our lesson last year by buying overpriced english one hit wonders? Tell me why arnt any other teams even looking at our targets? Reason is very simple- they cost too much and are rubbish. But we are somehow convinced that if they had a Brilliant last season in Swansea or Fulham that they are worth more than players from abroad that top teams are looking at.

Now get Your head out of your a*** BR and start looking at players that WILL make a impact in our team. And dont tell me we buy EPL players because they are used to the english style game, look at MC. Silva, Ballotelli, Dzeko, Aguero, all unproven european players.

Spurs seem to Be tracking our targets.

So are spurs not looking at all our targets?

All costing a s*** load of money up front and massive wages, not very prudent given the FFP rules coming into play soon. Given that we have been poor in the league for 3 seasons and missed out on the CL too, why do you think these players would want to come to Liverpool? IF you have a look at Clint Dempsey's record over the last FIVE seasons you will see he isn't a one hit wonder and he's not even English. Neither is Borini, the one player we have signed. Not sure where you're getting your ideas from?

MarkB.

Where does BR get the money from? Have you ANY idea how much the likes of Bollotelli, Siva, Aguero cost? Not only the purchase fee but also the wages? If we want Rimerez and offer him 50 k a week, Man City can offer double, so who do you think he will choose? How can you blame BR because he does not have the financial power that De Matteo or Mancini have?

MR EM

Forgot to sign my last comment, My point is, there isn't even the slightest comparison to the shambles last year

Cudge

POINTLESS NEGATIVE POST ALERT^^^^#

Borini(Italian) has worked with rodgers, Allen(welsh) Has worked with Rodgers, Dempsey(American) is surely worth more a punt than anyone brought in last summer, We are not in a position to copy man city at this time and if we go about things the way you would like we never will. I for one would rather build a team of good players rather than a couple of stars and 9 baw bags.

How about Liverpool are tracking Spurs targets, it's a free market last time i knew, but if your scared of players finding little old Spurs being more attractive than you then maybe you should lower your sights a little and go compete with Everton and Villa for players. Rick

Those two players with the afro haircuts playing for UAE have shown some fantastic technical/passing abilities, they're also good at trackin back and winning the ball,

Anyone know any more about them, who they play for, any interest from any clubs etc?

Shak Attack

They are called 'LMFAO' last time I saw them, they were doing the MTV awards. I heard that Jay Z, is very interested in them.

They know how to 'Work it' Shak mate.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Unfortunately they may have the technical abilities but concentration is sadly lacking Blair...too busy asking people to look at their body as well as telling them that they are sexy and they know it

ed is there any interest in Nicols Lodeiro? he did change the game for Uruguay {Ed002's Note - He moved clubs a week ago, I doubt he will move again this summer.}

26 Jul 2012 18:28:29
To all those people banging on about Ramirez- ok he scored a good free kick-but give me Joe Allen any day! Better player, more energy, better movement off the ball
Guzzle

Ramirez is an attcking mid or winger and Allen is a centre mid. they are different players
Jrsoakley23

We shall see im going to be watching him like a hawk later on.

Both would be nice and same price as what we paid for Carroll

While joe allen is fine young player, who id like in the lfc jersey, you just annot compare these players.... Gaston ramirez is one of the finest talents in the world, joe allen is one of many... Dont mean to be a douche here, but if u dont agree go watch bolognas matches last year

Who would make a greater difference to the team. Ramirez by a country mile, which is why other top clubs after him and none apart from Liverpool are reportedly in for Allen. Enough said

26 Jul 2012 18:22:48
hi edds and fans a like want everyones opinion who would you prefer joe allen or gaston ramerez with only 4 million difference now for me its gaston and im not just jumping on the band wagon have seen him play a few times and from wat ive seen he could be the spark in are build up were missingso forget allen and demsey just sign ramerez will make are team better

mike

What if he doesn't want to play for us? This is not fantasy football you know, you don't just buy who ever you choose!

MR EM

Finally..people understanding his quality...i have been saying this from months now.....

Joe Allen everyday for me mate! More energy, movement off the ball, better passer, better ball winner and cheaper. If Allen was Spanish or Italian you'd all love him.
Guzzle

Have not seen as much of Ramirez as you good self (other than YouTube) the only niggling doubt I do have with some south American,Spanish&porugese players is that after 2/3 good seasons if Madrid or Barcelona come calling they tend to go,not all of course....paisley's genius y.n.w.a jft96

If Spurs and City bid for him then one of them will sign him, i'd be surprisingly shocked if he signed for Liverpool

Hans

Theres a reason top teams want Ramirez and none want joe Allen. Not because of his name...worst excuse. Allen is not a game changer, Ramirez is.

By Ben Smith
BBC Sport West Ham have stepped up their interest in Liverpool striker Andy Carroll by making a bid that could potentially break the club's transfer record.

We've got a number of very, very talented players in the group, of which Andy is one

Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool manager

The fresh offer would see Carroll initially move on loan with a commitment to buy the 23-year-old next summer in a deal worth more than £15m.

However, it is understood he does not view West Ham as a serious option.

The England international's preference, should he be forced to leave Anfield, is still to return to Newcastle United.

The Tyneside club, who retain a strong interest in the player, are monitoring the situation.

Owner Mike Ashley saw an initial bid for Carroll dismissed out of hand by Liverpool, who remain determined to secure the permanent sale of a player they bought for £35m in January 2011. The Anfield club insist they are not prepared to countenance offers below £20m for the 23-year-old.

West Ham are understood to be prepared to build their team around Carroll, but with the player indicating an uncertaintly to move to there, despite a strong friendship with former Newcastle team-mate Kevin Nolan, it does little to clarify his future.

The £7.5m West Ham paid Liverpool for Craig Bellamy in 2007 remains the club's transfer record, although Brescia striker Savio Nsereko agreed a deal that could potentially have been worth £9m, but he failed to trigger a number of performance-based clauses.

Jack Sullivan, son of David Sullivan, the West Ham co-owner, added to the speculation by tweeting: "Dad is working on the biggest signing in the history of the club - twice as big as anything the club have done before!"

26 Jul 2012 18:11:06
People on here need a reality check. Gaston Ramirez will not sign for us. Some of you people are delusional. We will not the 20m to sign him for a start. If he has a good tournament his price could easily go up. Kenny wasted over 100m on rubbish last season. FSG want rid of Suarez. Ramirez will not sign. 100%. Why do you think we are been linked with average players like Allen & Dempsey etc. Borini is suppost to be ''exciting''. Rodgers is small time. We are a joke and a laughing stock. James ynwa

Fans like yourself make us a laughing stock James not the manager or players linked with us!

Mike S

I didn't know Victor Meldrew was a Liverpool fan!

So FSG want rid of Suarez but talk are ongoing about a contract extension which Rogers has been talking about previously, yes we need a reality check...

Everyting true..but tell me mate..if we sell suarez..and wont buy ramirez..wer the hell are we gonna end next season?
joe allen, clint dempsy, jordan hendo, downing and caroll will never ever make any team reach CL...........

I agree that Ramirez probably wont sign for us but calling Borini, Allen and Dempsey bad players is unfair. Give them a chance.

Hans

James, clearly you're a manc and your sign off stands for You'll Never Whinge Alone. Enjoy your summer holidays mate.

Goal of the Olympic Tournament so far for Gaston Ramirez. What a freekick. Superb goal. Buy him asap BR he is way better than Downing.

So sad he is beyond our reach though the kid will join us with open arms.

We 'll have to watch as Spurs or Man city sign the player.

So Sorry folks... Real Shame. No Money, so poor.

Bosco

Goal of the tournament? What, 3 games in?

Look, the kid is good, but if he does end up at LFC the sheer amount of expectations from him from the supporters would likely cause a panic attack. He's a young player with talent, nothing more, nothing less. No idea why people think he somehow single-handedly could come in and lead us to the title.

Honestly! It was just one fuc***g free kick! It doesn't make him world class.
gareth

Someone pass Bosco a tissue please, poor boy

Is it just me who think the Ramirez free kick should have been saved. And although he has looked ok in a slow paced game, thinks that he may struggle in the EPL. Redphil

Disagree, he plays one touch football unlike a lot of our current players.

I thought he waspretty poor in that game, omar the number 15 for uae outshone everyone

Easy to play one touch in serie a, and against uae

Eds, you have my uppermost sympathy, questions are about to start flying in about olympic players, Japanese, Arabs. People should realise we will have scouts there and any players that shine will be looked at. However, wait until they have played group games before claiming how good they are or how well they will fit into new system. So far in pre-season Shelvey and Pacheco been stand outs. Would be a shame if both do not get a proper go in the first team this season.
Thanks to all the eds and Macca for a great site.

How bad was Coates in the 1st half against UAE. Did he really cost us 6m? He's so clumsy, Just hoofs the ball forward when he has time to make a pass, Gave away a stone wall peno that the ref missed and dont even get me started on when he rolled around the ground as if he'd been shot then 2 seconds later he jumped up to go after the player, Embarrassed for him. Greg

Take time to check out his overhead kick against Qpr. Then come back an say he looks clumsy

Of course. He is the only young defender in the history of football to have a bad game...

You sir, are a t*t!

Just watching the Uruguay game. The commentators were talking about how everyone is backing the UAE because they're the under dogs and because of "the Suarez effect". Comments like that should go punished in my opinion, very unprofessional. Annoys me a lot how many football fans out there can be so disrespectful booing him every time he gets on the ball. If the owners and BR decide to keep him I hope he doesn't become disillusioned because of the haters out there.

26 Jul 2012 17:44:23
In reference to USA national team Carlos Bocanegra is captain. Landon Donovan is captain of LA Galaxy. Clint Dempsey is their most talented player. Fabian Johnson is also one to watch-plays in Germany.

Dempsey is arguably the most talented player, but he's also quite under-rated by most everyone over say Donovan who is decent, but for me not at the same level.

Basically he's not a real 'flashy' player, but he's remarkably effective and hard working and those traits aren't appreciated nearly enough.

Its really a big debate over here as to who is better, Donovan or Dempsey. Its Donovan for me, Its got more pace, more class, and I think has a better attitude.

Dempsey easily...he's all about playing for the team and there's a reason why he's been in the premier league for so long and Donovan is in the US

Dempsey is better all around: better work rate, finishing with both feet, in the air, more versatile-any attacking position-more driven, on the ball, passing. Has scored 60 goals for Fulham in all comp. Donovan has wasted his prime/talent in MLSfor 11 yrs. Failed 2x in Germany. Dempsey is much better IMO. Donovan does have better pace than Dempsey.

why would spurs b interested in ramirez the kid wants 2 cum to a club wer he can play as much as poss, surely liverpool is the bttr option and spurs are nt in the champs lge so wot can they offer that we cnt xcept of corse crazy wages ( step up mr siggurdson ) at liverpool he could become a hero v quickly as fans we treat our players like gods, torres was bt wil never b at chelsea just b another player, suarez is now and ifwe want to keep him and show we mean business then ramirez is perfect for us YNWA

Treat our players like gods? Do you ever come and read the abuse some players get?
Although, he is foreign so he may do alright

Red Raw

Exact...if ramirez joins..we can guarantee suarez will stay for 2 more glorious years

Is it really that hard to place an extra vowel or two in the words you're spelling? Decent point, but Jeez... I hope you are enjoying that extra 4 seconds you saved by skipping letters, because the rest of us are wasting our time trying to decipher what you wrote...

To be fair though, Tottenham did finish in the CL spot so would be a lot more likely to finish there than us.

Grammar makes it hard to take you seriously but what your saying I do agree with.

For everyone that ask why take a risk on ramirez when he played in serie A etc etc watch the Uruguay match and learn a few things. He just scored a belter, has great skill and makes passes going foward. Plus he links brilliantly with suarez. If we dont get him and lose out to spurs then be happy with dempsy...pfff

Defiantly. I hate the booing crowd. Shame sometimes it does hinder his performances. I've always believe he will leave due to the s***e he gets from the s***e fans. Come on, who disagreed with that PMSL its fact. It really is on BBC2

Mike S

26 Jul 2012 17:00:01
I was wondering what everyone thought of Aquallani's comments on bbc? Basically he is hopeful of playing under Rodgers and that he never wanted to go out on loan, but that Hodgson and Dalglish forced him to. He said the club stated that he was not happy at the club, but that was not true. He believes he has not been given a chance, but that conversations with Rodgers has been positive.

Andros (1st time poster but regular looker!)

Time for him to get on with it then and prove he deserves to pull on that shirt. I for one would be very happy if he plays as he was capable of doing. Lots skill, just needs application now. BR obviously up for giving him a chance.
ND

Rodgers likes technically gifted footballers so he should be alright this season

26 Jul 2012 16:51:20
If this talk is true of Ramirez's agent being in the UK and it possibly being Man City the club who the talks are with then I think this could be a good thing for LFC!

Imagine one of these outcomes~

Ramirez has talks with Man City but they break down due to lack of assurances that he will be in the first team. Ovbiously at that point if LFC wanted to pursue the player then main role assurances could be made (as he ovbiously wouldn't be a squad player for us, IF we signed him)

Or.....

Ramirez has talks with Man City, passes his medical, signs for the club. At that point would that not 'free up a space' in their overloaded midfield. If this situation were to arise I would hope that we try to get hold of Adam Johnson.

Could turn out to be an interesting situation.....

Ps, I agree with an earlier poster who said screw Swansea (if they want a bidding war then we should remove our interest imo). Not so much screw Fulham as the whole FSG website/Dempsey situation wasn't their doing. I for one still hope they are actively seeking a replacement for Dempsey (like Ed002 stated) as I would like Clint to join us!

K.Bennett

well done japan

any of these japanese players available, they suit rodgers system, harrassing their opponents majestically, i m well impressed

guys.......

im sorry to laugh...........but as much as i think liverpool have the right foundations to be a good team again

you got to laugh about ramirez and gylfi!! im a spurs fan and i can tell you now

we are a far better team now we have got those two in and with adebayor to boot!

speculate to accumulate! whos club is tight now!
champions league here we come

spursrus

When did you buy Ramirez then ? and Adebayor ? you can't be serious, he wouldn't even get on our bench. Gylfi is a money grabber who won't even play. Modric is leaving. And AVB will be sacked by Christmas.

HM

Modric is leaving and Gylfi and Ramirez are no where near his level. VdV is also leaving who has been a consistent goal scorer. So swapping Modrid with Sigurdsson and Van der Vaart with Ramirez is good? I doubt that.

Good luck trying to get 6th.

BthekingB

What is the point of this post? You've signed a player that we are after, congratulations we took your number 1 target to replace Harry Redknapp. Good luck with the AVB era, not like you lot were slating him less than 6 months ago or anything...

Sam Adzii JFT96

So your owner is angry with Liverpool because we took his first target in Brendan rogers. Then we reject sigurdsoons sudden rise in wages but he makes excuses and says spurs are going places (where is that exactly?). Now it seems you have no scouting system of your own because your going for all our targets. On top of that you lost the best thing that ever happened to your club in Harry redknapp and modric seems to be on his way as well. Yeah man keep laughing... :s

With all due respect do you know your team plays a 4-2-3-1 formation which will not change even with AVB arriving?

As far as I know, VDV, Bale and Lennon had the front 3 nailed downlast year.
So unless you guys are thinking about selling Lennon and VDV there is no reason why you have to come here boasting about those two as neither will feature.

In my mind, Tottenham should hire their own scouting team which does some work rather than copying the targets of Liverpool. Also, your most important midfield player is looking to jump ship and you are talking about another AM joining when VDV has that place sealed up.

Losing King and Modric would be a real hard blow. And I don't think Vertonghen and a replacement will cover the loss.
In essence, Tottenham would field a weaker starting 11 this year.

Corvin

And when was the last time you won anything? I actually can't remember...

Was it the F.A. Cup in 1991 when Tottenham actually last won something?
Am I wrong?

Not to sure if I would be that happy if I was swapping modric with Ramirez . I know with the players that we have signed ( or signing ) that we are improving our squad .

Cheers

Jamesy

You have to laugh at Spurs. They spend millions of pounds every season, yet never actually do anything.

Fool if you think its over cos you bought some one. lfc are on the up so look out spurs and all the other pretenders

Actually, Spurs won the League cup in 2007, when they beat Chelsea 2-1. Also Adebayor would easily get in your first team, plus many teams wanted Sigurdsson, and they are generally better than Liverpool. End of. Gilly

Unnamed poster, you also have to laugh at Liverpool. They sign an old legend as manager and the fans say, 'next year is our year'. The manager wastes £35m on a donkey, plus another £40m on Adam, Downing and Henderson. Then he backs a player convicted of racist abuse, and puts the club to shame. Plus he ends the season behind Everton, who spend much less every year. Then they sack said manager, and the whole process of next year is our year starts again. Gilly

Do we need to bring up Bentley, and buying back Robbie Keane, just glad we took a smaller hit off that. And don't forget your genius between the sticks Gomez. And the amazing insight that redknapp had that almost saw Bale loaned if it weren't for injuries. Pot kettle black, look closer to home before trading facts

Then they appoint a small time loser who's never won anything in his life. AVB

Deluded Spurs fan thinking they will get Ramirez...he's going to Arsenal!

26 Jul 2012 15:36:38
I personally believe if we want Ramirez then we may get him. 2 reason Suarez with us and BR speak good spanish. we need to act fast then Tottenham. £19.5 asking price not that bad.

r-r

I agree. however - Suarez may still leave, and Gaston would probably know his plans from the olympic camp. second, BRs spanish isnt as good as AVBs. would love him and suarez either side of borini though!

AVB is portuguese

Does that mean he can't speak Spanish like??

The name of Liverpool is so Famous in South america rather than Tottenham.
Avb speak portugise not spanish. {Ed002's Note - AVB speaks both.}

Add more reason there are Italin link in Liverpool Borini & Aquilani.

Why would anyone press disagree on - AVB is portuguese?

He is.

lol

Yes but south American spanish has quite a few distinct differences to Castillian Spanish (what BR and AVB speak) so neither of them would have an advantage over eachother

You know that BR is fluent in Spanish don't you. Redphil

Dose it rely matter, could the king speak Spanish when he got suarez?

26 Jul 2012 15:37:52
I really dont see any reason why we shouldn't sign Ramirez. 15m-18m is not a massive fee for a quality player playing at international level in a VERY good Uruguay side at the age of 21 and has also been linked with many big sides.
I know that there seems to be interest from Man City, but how will a move there benefit him, he'll be competing with narsi, Tevez, Silva, Milner, Johnson etc and most likely be bench warming for the majority of the time. Whereas here, he'll be more or less starting every game for a team with great history and a bright future with his international team mates Coates and Suarez - seems like the more attractive option to me. There is literally no reason why he wouldn't favor a move to us or why we shouldnt be interested, when his current club have openly said he is available for around 16m. People keep going on about 'what if he doesn't adapt to premier league life' but seriously a player of his quality should be more than capable just like the Suarez's, Aguero's, Silva's, Tevez's of this league who are all of smallish stature and have excelled to become some of the league's best. We need to have faith, just imagine a midfield or Gerrard, Lucas, Ramirez and a front three of Suarez, Carroll and Borini it's pretty mouth watering if you ask me. Think about it, if you were a defender who would you be more frightened of playing against Allen or Ramirez, pretty much a no brainer.
Please Rodgers, bring him in and we will be a real force next season, because if he goes to Man City I guarantee he will be a huge success just like all their other players, move before its too late!

RDR

I think a front three of ramirez/borini/suarez or ramirez/carroll/suarez would be deadly and a force to reckon with

Small stature - Ramirez is 6ft tall.

I have been saying this from past one month..sign this wonder man..ramirez.is the name

He might want to play for a manager that has a track record for winning trophies. As for Rodgers being able to speak Spanish im sure AVB can too and in a more natural way than Rodgers. Rick

I'm a patient fan! I'm prepared to give BR a chance, as well as ANY player that he buys. He obviously has his reasons for wanting the players he's after.

My only gripe at the moment is with whoever is responsible for the end-to-end process of buying/selling players at LFC!

We went for Gylfi, who was "nailed on" and landed up with egg on our faces - he chose Spurs due to their "ambition" (uhhhum, cash!)

We went for Dempsey and make a pigs ear! Declaring that we had the player when we clearly didn't! Fulham are not happy with us, and will now make life hard for us!

We wanted to get rid of Carroll, first on loan, now definitely not on loan, now he may stay or go back to Newcastle for pennies so they can laugh at us even harder. Another mess.

We're after Allen, we've made our intentions public thereby annoying the Swans because we had an agreement to leave there players alone. All the while, we may still go for Sinclair too! Another less-than-perfect situation!

I won't even elaborate on Aquaman and how Milan have treated LFC! A proper farce to say the least!

The people responsible really need to sort themselves out! And soon! We're not after Neymar, we're after players that *should* be easy enough targets to secure within decent time-frames - and with minimal fuss!

Bring players in or sell players, but do it swiftly and cleanly! These situations are causing the club undue embarrassment!

LFC_SA

We didn't make our intention public about allen, swansea did

we have never said anything about caroll regarding loan or sale the press came up with everything regarding that

rodgers said that he was unwilling to pay over the odds for gylfi and so didn't pusrsue the deal

so the only thing you really have got right is the mess with the dempsey deal, think you have to stop believing everything you read/hear in the media and start paying more attention to what the people from LFC say (or don't say)

Spot on mate . Im not a negative fan but i did post yesterday at 15:00 something very similar regarding the 'proffesionals ' who handle negotiations. I think i started along the lines of ' i work in the construction industry.........' - anyway good post

You need to stop believing what you read in the Star or hear on Talksport.
Put your faith in information that comes from the club.
Ditch the negative attitude adopted by a lot of so called fans on here, and get behind BR.
Read the fans charter if you are unsure of what being a Liverpool supporter means.

Hi Eds
is it just me r does mancini come across like a spoiled child in a sweet shop told he cant have what he wants with his yapping about van persie, this fair play rules must even for them hold back the throw money at everything,i know i wish we had loads of dosh but hopefully its a good thing for us and puts us on a more even path too glory like r turnover of fans is more than a match for anyone.Tommy Irish Red.

Yes he should try being the Liverpool manager.

26 Jul 2012 15:25:33
"I never asked to leave but I was always pushed by the club," Alberto Aquilani told the BBC, adding, "I am here and I would like to play for Liverpool but it doesn't depend only on me. I had a very good talk with Brendan where we were able to share our thoughts and it was a very positive chat. I like his footballing philosophy and I like the mentality he has because it matches my own skills."

It may still be hard to imagine him staying at Liverpool this season, but according to the player, "The situation changed after Benitez left. In past years, I felt forced out. I never asked to go on loan but they made it clear it was better for me to go. I think Liverpool people have to know that I have never said I wanted to leave the city because my family and I were not happy here. This is not true."

From the horses mouth not from his agent as everyone says he is just milking it. This is proof that Liverpool were up to their shady business once more in getting us fans to turn on players that they wanted out, same with Mascherano by Liverpool using his family as the reason he wanted to leave.

Now are surely no one can say that Aquilani doesn't fancy living in England and that he was unhappy and the famous performance evaluation "He's heart isn't in it" etc... clearly Hodgson wanted a spearing type player and Dalglish wanted to make his own stamp on the team by getting in Adam and Henderson in the middle.

Oh any before someone says easy to say that with no name

Haych

Nonsense. If you played for LFC and no one else showed any interest in you...would you cut the hand that feeds you in publically?
No of course not...He would be the thickest player ever to slag LFC off if he has no where else to go.

Gareth

26 Jul 2012 15:24:36
Carrol wont go
Adam should stay
downing should stay
aqualani should stay

shelvey is going to be world class

cole should go
spearing should go

we need a ramirez or a player of that ilk
adam johnson
and a striker

allen is not needed

Why the hell should cole go. In both pre-season games so far he has been one of the better players. he doesnt lose the ball he keeps hold of i he beats defenders and he picks out the right pass. person!

Mike B

Acree with most but i would like to have allen

Ok then mike B, would he be in your starting 11, if not he hes an over payed squad player holding back the development of a young player, if he was 21-24 i would agree, he isnt going to get any better and his value will not increase.

when we signed him all of the chelsea fans i know literally pissed themselfs and told me he is the most frustrating player they have ever seen, your basing your opinion on 2 friendly games, and he should of buried the chance he had yesterday the keeper was so far off his line.
hes simply not good enough.
Jaydee ynwa

Yes im not saying i wouldnt like him, but who would you start with.
lucas, gerrard, adam, shelvey, henderson, i think aqualani should be given a chance to prove his worth, rafa must of seen somthing in him to pay what he did.

Jaydee Honestly i would like to see him in the starting line up i would of preferred a Cole-Carroll-Suarez dront 3 because in a posession game all three suit BR's style. plus he has a point to prove he may have lost some fitness at the age of 30 but technique stays with you for a long time if you put the effort in so yes i would have him starting unless we want to fork out 20+ million on a player and not less that 10 on a player the same age. Also didnt base him on 2 pre-seasion games, He did oplay for Lille last year you know!

Mike B

Mike B, are you saying that you would start Cole in a front three ahead of Borini ? Or Sterling?

Andy K

26 Jul 2012 15:24:08
I an going to make it vlear after people questioning my knowledge when i posted sbout ramirez not beimg us to be in discussions i got questioned on my source i dont have ae specific source but i have a good word from some people..
Many times i come on here to say and i dont cone on here often to post i posted that borini would be signing and i said away back before commoli left that dof was a dead cert no no.
Now i can gurantee to sny liverpool fan g ramirez will not be joining liverpool fc. I know of interest in spurs though man city are starting to show realt interest as much ad i think ramirez is a gem of a player he will not be joining liverpool sadly.

Shaunlfc

And what name did you previously post under? I cant seem to find your Bulls**t

Whoever we get into the team this season, or whoever leaves, I can confirm we will always be Liverpool Football Club, one of the most decorated clubs on this planet.

26 Jul 2012 15:20:34
can't fathom why some fans on here hear a "report" on sky sports that swansea are unhappy about an approach for allen and all of a sudden turn on their own manager because they believe the media "sources" and saying it sickens them that he's broken the agreement and tarnished liverpools reputation.

Did you actually see Rodgers interview from yesterday where he was asked about the allen deal he said he still has an excellent relationship with the swansea chairman and has had a very good private conversation with him which will remain private but that is all he wants to say because joe is still a swansea player.
seems to me huw jenkins is open to an approach as long as rodgers does it in the right way i.e. speaks to him personally and not approaching through an agent or leaking stories to the media and will let allen go if it is right for his club, if its not it will be a case of no thanks and we move on.

The man can't win, he gets slated for not signing players now its for trying to sign players, give him a break ffs

I for one am going to believe what i have actually seen and heard my manager say than what jim white reports as "JUST IN" or " " from so called "sky sources" while sitting behind his desk feeling up kirsty gallagher.

Jim white is one lucky man then

I know Ed002 has said Ramirez would be an option if Suarez was to move but could he be brought in if Carroll were to move on?

88

Probably downing as Ramirez is more a wide player and i think we will rather replace carroll with an striker but thinking of it Borini is a CF.

Hes an attacking midfielder/forward that can play wide but is by no means a wide player!

26 Jul 2012 15:13:20
Agree for Banega 12m-15m
Disagree for Allen 12m-15m

Allen because Banega never lived up to his potential and Rogers knows how Allen plays and would adapt easy whereas it could take Banega some time.

Mike B

Banega allday long for me.

Jonesred

Banega is class act. Allen may hit may not .

26 Jul 2012 14:01:01
Screw Fulham and Swansea! If Allen has a clause of 15m then activate it if he is the key man BR wants. As for Dempsey, tell Fulham do one and go get him for FREE in 12 months! Personally I would prefer to sign younger players from abroad that don't have the additional price tags of the premier league. Although I would like to see us get both of them but at the right price and not be held to ransom. I think Allen is worth around 12m but BR must want him badly to upset Swansea so just activate the clause and take him. Dempsey at 7m would be great but if Fulham see that they have a 29yr old player in the last year of his contract. Carrol should go West Ham if they come in with an decent 18-20m offer and with that money bring in Munian or Rondon. We are LFC and players want to wear the famous red shirt I dont like how much power they have over transfers these days but we see players force moves every day so lets hope our targets do same.

26 Jul 2012 13:59:07
Preseason
Well he's given all the maybes a good chance to show what they can and can't do, and the kids the opportunity to see if they need another year in the reserves, moved on, experience on loan or into the first team. For me shelvey should stay, he's really impressed, cole and aqua to make room for newbies, salary saving of £160,000 a week.

26 Jul 2012 15:09:54
Hey everyone since we now judge players on stats, how about we sign up Leon Britton aswell as Allen, as he was number one in the passing percentage table, which must make him one of the best midfielders in the world yeah?
Just shows that stats really shouldnt be how we judge the quality of a player, if every time I received the ball in a season I gave it straight back to the closest player every time then i'd have near enough 100%, doesnt me worth 15m does it...

26 Jul 2012 15:06:34
Brilliant post, i agree with everything bar two things
Suso: does cut in a lot like iniesta/silva but has that eye for a pass into space, always moving trying to provide and option of a pass and move
Darren bent: yes he does finish the chances he gets, but he's just an average player, something we have too much of! Only fts in with a middle club league team

But again brilliant post

26 Jul 2012 15:07:53
Hi eds, can i just say about Ramierez? Of course he in London - for the Olympics. I personnaly hope we make a bid for him but our fans need to relax and have faith in the board. They no what players we need to improve. Judge at end of season.
Die Hard Red

The board obviously dont know what we need as they let Kenny buy all that garbage last season.

Ramirez is in Manchester playing for Uruguay

26 Jul 2012 15:07:10
Gaston Ramirez agent in UK to discuss Man City move NOT Liverpool.

He wants first team Premier League football, why would he go to Man City with other offers on the table?
The lads quality but he's not exactly gonna knock David Silva out of a team that he's the focal point of in a hurry is he?
I think a Liverpool or Tottenham move is more likely myself.

His agent in London so it's could be Tottenham right ?

Maybe he is uk cos his client is at the olympics

26 Jul 2012 15:05:19
Hello Ed001
Did you watch yesterday's game ? If what is your thought on it ?
I felt it displayed the same facts most of us know :
1. Shelvey, Suso, Sterling are ready for some first team action.
2. Genuinely don't know how Spearing and Ecclestone have been at the club for so long. Not good enough. (Please don't come up with the Lucs quotes)
Also any news on outgoings ?
We need to move atleast 7 players :
Spearing, Adam/Aquilani, Cole, Eccleston, Danny wilson, Bellamy, Carroll, one of the back-up keepers.
While bringing in Allen, Dempsey & possible a ST.

26 Jul 2012 15:04:55
reading Macca's post about negativity and supporting owners! Do you really think they will sell IF or WHEN we become successful again? They didn't sell the red sox after they won world series what makes you think they will sell us?

26 Jul 2012 15:03:56
Macca, you said that FSG will sell when we become successful on and off the pitch, have they already stated this, shown signs of it happening or is it just your opinion?

It would be interesting to know if they are just looking for a quick buck or if they really have warmed to the club. Seeing what they've done with the Red Sox and how long they've been with them, it just seems they really take to the fans of clubs that they own and really want to do right by the club. But when you say they will sell when we're successful, that just sounds like typical Americans always being greedy...

Is that the case, or have I misread what you mean?

26 Jul 2012 15:02:56
with what Ramirez agent said about him coming to the EPL for about 20m then if we sell Andy Carrol for the same amount is this the replacement we are lining up? personal if we do sell AC i think we will need and out and out striker instead of another attacking midfielder any thoughts thoughts on this please ED
murton red

Another attacking midfielder?...do we have an atttcking midfielder?..we actually have bunch of players..who can play in that position..apart from gerrard......

One problem nobody is silly enough to pay 20m for Carroll

Has Damian Commoli found another club yet? If so, maybe check with him?

Andy K

26 Jul 2012 14:59:58
Eds, Gaston Ramirez's agent has said he is in London talking to a premier league club. Do you have anymore info on this as to whether it's us in negotiations?

Neilp {Ed019's Note - It could be us, but it is probably Man City}

26 Jul 2012 14:54:45
never seen ryan mclaughlin play til last night but was really impressed, also like the effort pacheco is putting in so far, long way to go for him yet but just maybe rodgers can bring out the player we were all expecting 2 years ago

McLaughlin will be a very good RB i think he is attacking and his touch and passing is good. i think he is better than Flanagan. but his tracking back is poor.

26 Jul 2012 14:48:24
People getting their hopes up over Gaston Ramirez, forget about it, we wont pay the transfer fee for him. Rumour he's in London does not mean he'll go to a London based team (Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham), i feel some team are offering stupid money and wages for him and for those reasons i'd say its Man-City. Chelsea just signed Oscar, United got Kagawa, Spurs dont pay big wages and have no Champions League football, so i assume its Man-City.

Rocky

26 Jul 2012 14:39:29
Its no rumour but how many lfc fans are truly disappointed with the transfer market, 1 signing and all the hype even from Rodgers interview......
Gaston ramires should of been at lfc by now but yet we hold back n let spurs get into a near done deal, siggurdson and ramires should both of been lfc players yet we settle for one signing upto now and disappointment......
Oh well it's his philosophy lets play all young ones and not win nothing for years like arsenal

Not disappointed...yet...

Borini seems to be a strong addition...Gylfi didn't join us because we never made an offer...and there's still over a month left to make moves...

26 Jul 2012 14:36:51
A couple thoughts about the second half of the friendly last night, as that was all I was able to see:

1. I like Morgan's enthusiasm, but it felt like he spent the entire half in an offside position. Hopefully as he gets more experienced he'll get better at that positioning.

2. Jon Flanagan: so he has 15 appearances so far for Liverpool, and that makes him feel like he can yell and curse at his (slightly) less experienced team mates for not passing it to him in exactly the right spot. Considering the amount of goals that have been scored that have been directly his fault (including Toronto's goal last Saturday), I think maybe he should cool his jets a bit.

3. I noticed this last year and I noticed it again last night: Charlie Adam with Lucas in the side is a massive step up from Charlie Adam without Lucas (AKA with Spearing). I don't know if its because he can play more freely or what, but when he plays with Lucas, he's almost class!

Anyway. Thoughts?

Ben the Red

I agree mate , not just charlie though , i think lucas would make most players look good , confidence is an amazing thing , and thats what lucas gives fellow midfielders. steviep62.

Completely agree, especially about flano - always more mouth and less action. McGlaughlin looked twice the player flanno acts like - kept his head down, great speed and can actually defend.

On the basis that GJ can play LB, i'd be happy with MK as first choice with McGlaughlin as cover.

That's because you can't compare Lucas with Spearing...massive gulf in class...

26 Jul 2012 14:27:09
Spearing, we love you, and you will always be a red at heart, but it really is time to move on now.
At 23 he really should be moving forward as a player but sadly he seems to be going in the oposite direction. Better for all concerned if he went elsewhere.
Ramirez to LFC!

Big Red Mac

26 Jul 2012 14:25:04
Taken from todays Metro:

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to add some much needed width to his new-look team next season, and has turned to Ramirez after baulking at Fulham's £10 million asking price for Clint Dempsey

Inter Milan and Tottenham are two other clubs believed to have significant interest in Ramirez, but neither are willing to stump up the £15 million Bologna want for the 21-year-old.

That clears the way for Liverpool to get their man, and they are hopeful they land the player in the next fortnight, despite the transfer being complicated, as Ramirez will be on duty for Uruguay during the London Olympics.

The former Penarol ace, who is contracted to Bologna until 2016, has already set his heart on a move to Anfield.

Sorry for the copy and paste Ed's but if true that he has set his heart on joining us then good news!

Mark the Selby Red

26 Jul 2012 14:22:06
Message to Andy Carroll, don't worry about leaving lad! Dig your heels in and refuse a move because chances are you will be there longer than Rogers anyway as when he has completed his transition of us into Swansea lite ( could be 2 players with Swansea connections if Allen signs, could have been 3 if Siggurdson had come ) he will be binned by F$G and they will be telling us what an insperation the new fella is they have got in to replace him cranking up the yankee propaganda machine for the gulliable and the stupid!

Waro

Waro in my opinion your posts get shi**er and more bitter every time.
Why the f*** wouldn't you give BR at least one competitive game before spewing crap. We know your opinion by now keep it wrapped up, we'll take the I told you so's if it turns out to right.
Why not just show a glimmer of positivity. You ever heard of like attracts like?

26 Jul 2012 14:21:14
Hey eds. Do you know of any targets for our right wing problem? Or if the coaching team is even seeking this type of player? I think to most people it is obvious we need one.

Ps why do we need Allen, he is a good young up and comer but then again so is Henderson, aquilani certainly isn't bad either, not to mention shelvey

Aussiered {Ed019's Note - Krasic was a target but we decided not to follow up our interest. There is interest in Gaston Ramirez. Expect interest in Sinclair after the olympics, but other than that, nothing new}

{Ed019's Note - I have created a fantasy football league for this website on fantasy.premierleague.com at the code 66434-90075 . Please join this league and urge others to join too! Also follow me on twitter @ahaque97}

I know that most websites on the internet are unreliable but nearly every site i've seen about gaston ramirez is saying we're favourites to sign him...a bit of hope i suppose

KP {Ed019's Note - Gaston Ramirez has been watched by Liverpool but I still remain unsure as to how strong the interest is from the club but would not be at all surprised if a push was made to sign him particularly if someone leaves Liverpool. Ramirez was available in January for about 15M euro plus a signing on fee - but Liverpool did not follow up on their initial interest after having the player watched. Bologna will not now listen to offers less than 20M euros. However, it remains most likely that Ramirez will move in the summer with interest being shown by Napoli, Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Palermo and Juventus, who have made a firm offer. Unsubstantiated rumours suggest Manchester United, Spurs, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested. Sevilla were interested but I understand that Ramirez has no interest in such a move. Discussions have taken place between Bologna and Manchester City, Napoli and Juventus. The talks with Juventus do continue and after Wolfsburg met with the player's agent talks are now being organised between Bologna and Wolfsburg. Gaston Ramirez's agent Pablo Betancourt has now also made it clear that Juventus and Wolfsburg are interested in his client and that he knows of no on going interest in the player from other Italian clubs}

26 Jul 2012 13:44:09
Raheem Sterling will move on loan to Swansea in January as part of the deal to bring Joe Allen in.

Skrtel will move on (but not to City) for in the region of 14 million and Simon Kjaer (8 million) will be his replacement to link up with Agger.

Clint Dempsey will arrive for 4 million plus Charlie Adam.

Gaston Ramirez is currently valued at too much (25 million) but if Carroll agress to join West Ham for 18 million, expect us to move for Ramirez, especially with the 6 million surplus from the Skrtel and Kjaer deals.

Finally Bellamy will be allowed to leave with QPR willing to pay his wages.

Expect a busy few weeks in Anfield.

Personally I think we should be chasing another striker or 2 instead of Ramirez, Allen and Dempsey. Ideally Higuain (highly doubtful due to his want for Champions League), Negredo or Llorente.

26 Jul 2012 13:42:38
Hope the rumours that Gaston Ramirez agent is currently negotiating with Liverpool FC i holding stick. That will hopefully shut the mouth of some fans that are questionin LFC ambition aswell as the owners.

26 Jul 2012 13:40:56
Ramirez was quoted as to have said he was in London to hold talks with a premier league club. Does rule us out completely?

26 Jul 2012 13:11:10
Tic tac style guff aside Romas B+ team against our second string was a good test unfortunately in defensive areas we failed this test.
Lucas is not fully ready to play the fire fighting cdm role yet, that's why you have second string players we were dismantled easily without agger and skrtel together on the pitch, one can only hope Coates would have done better than carra. In Cdm role spearing took most of the responsibility as the other midfielders laboured attacks or tried to direct the game, he failed.
We will need a replacement Cdm for Lucas even considering gerrard and Allen or gerrard and Adam would help out defensively a bit more than aquilani and shelvey do.
Offensively it's not a worry as we have lots of players who weren't on show like gerrard downing Suarez borini and it's very unlikely ecclestone or Morgan will be needed ever.
Coates and maybe Kelly will be relied upon to keep us competitive defensively when there's injuries.
Lucas will need a better firefighting Cdm to replace him than Allen or gerrard or Adam as they are not that sort of player.
Some will say we don't need that rigid role as we will be playing a fluid and together intuitive Barcelona game, yeah well just in case let's get a disciplined player for that role, and preferably someone whos legs haven't gone I.e not poulsen

Does anyone know how good he is?

Is Pardew extracting the urine or what?

KernowRed

No ,just stating a fact.

26 Jul 2012 13:04:10
Just thought i would post for all the doomers and gloomers Chelsea lost last night there team included Marin Hazard Terry Lampard and many more against a team off MLS all stars that dont even play week in week out together. Does this mean there doomed for the drop too. If so the championship will be the place to watch football next season!!

26 Jul 2012 13:34:15
Probably a stupid question but where is Downing has he joined up with the squad? i've heard some rumours he may be going what are the chances do you think Brendan will want him gone?

26 Jul 2012 13:33:16
Andy Carroll shares the same agent as Allerdyce and Nolan, Pardew knows this. Therefore a bidding war will start with Hammers and Toon & Pardew expecting Andy to choose Newcastle over the Hammers. Home club over agents persuasion? We shall see.....

Toon will not enter into a bidding war ,they will simply walk away .Have you not been paying attention to their transfer style.

Last Nights Game

AQUA, SHELVEY, SUSO , ADAM, LUCAS, McLaughlin, PACHECO all stood out.

STERLING, ECCLESTON, Adorjan, Morgan, had some good play but not alot of the ball.

Spearing OMG ! shocking ! He just cant pass ! and gives it away too much
GULASCI and JONES arent comfortable with the ball so i wouldnt be surprised if another keeper is sort after.

ENRIQUE needs to up his game again thats for sure.
CARRA i think just cannot cope anymore

Wilson i think should be let go as has not developed

Don't really disagree with most of that but how can you base an opinion of how much wilson has developed after watching half an hour of him playing in the wrong position at left back which is the same position he's been played at for most of the games he's ever played for liverpool he played pretty well against toronto when actually playing at CB

26 Jul 2012 13:23:44
Why oh why are most posts on here today slating everyone and everything about the manager/certain same said players, after a friendly against a a good Roma side with some quality footballer's in their side. Get a grip folks, its a friendly! You can't win nowt in pre season,so why get so worked up about a game that was a good early runout for a reserve side. Why don't people make more of a judgement when we've at least played somewhere near our first team. Its a bit of an insult to say a lot of folk seem like moaning schoolgirls but that's exactly how it comes across.
Jonson

Wonder what the chelsea site are saying after they lost, I can't be bothered to look but I expect they are not worried

1st half

Mclaughlin - spritely, really good going forward, defensively position was so-so but still young. could become a good winger.
skrtel - solid as usual, no worries there, just his head being turned by bigger money/agent
carra - looked slightly ragged at times, time catching up quickly. need around for experience, squad at best.
enrique - still on hols! slow and clumsy, needs to get back to pre-xmas form. & stop hogging ball!
shelvey - excellent, tackled, good range of passes, good chances - Mom for me. the 'real' heir to stevie G
spearo - enthusiastic grafter, but not enough. squad player at best, maybe time to move on.
aquilani - quality not in doubt, some nice touches and passes but drifted in an out. at crossroads, its really down to his desire.
eccleston - good lad, like spearo a grafter but not quite there. time to move as not going to happen.
sterling - couple of nice touches but not really at it. all the talent to make it but not quite ready for prem this season. carling cup run-outs/sub
cole - showed real desire and fight (especially with taddei), touches of old cole, experienced, has ability, may work this time.

2nd half
jones - never been convinced, championship at best, time to move on.
Flano - like spearo, full of energy & enthusiasm but his lack of thought, espesh when tackling, will find him out. better to take punt on Mclaughlin, fill-in at best.
agger - ok trying too hard late on, first game in ages, no worries there.
sama - looked composed and solid, the way he threw himself at goal bound ball showed real desire. one to keep eye on.
wilson - ok but another of those not quite there players. only young but can't see him here long term. sama/wisdom better.
adam - like aquilani, nice touches and passes, great finish but cannot track back! roma midfield passed it around him far too easy. better when lucas was covering his back.
lucas - so good to have him back! didnt flinch from tackles, tracking back was good, bar one pass was good & getting better each game. one of first names on teamsheet.
adojan - was running around alot but ball whizzing by, odd good tackle but not really on the ball. too early to comment but energetic.
suso - lovely left foot but relies on it alot, always cutting in. nice touches/passes, got a iniesta look about him...nearly ready.
pacheco - best player after shelvey. good skill and interplay, showing real desire/hunger. poss 1st team starter for me. the new 'maxi'?
morgan - big comparison to owen/fowler, can see why. hungry for ball, chasing down players constantly, had half a chance. my wildcard for this season...

overall it was a good workout, i'd say 3 out of 5 performance. as BR said after, roma are 3-4 games ahead of us and you could tell at times.

however the passing and movement is getting better, the closing down from the front as oppossed to sitting off under kenny/roy/rafa is great to see. you can see bren's methods slowly taking shape.

take our goal - good possession, 10-15 passes and perfect set-up by dani when many would have shot, clinical finish by adam.

when you consider we've got bellers, Coates, suarez, Stevie, kelly, downing, hendo, carroll, Johnson, doni and reina to come in (plus robbo, wisdom and any other i may have missed!), we have got a v good squad with real quality.

add to that borini and maybe 1-2 more new signings (with a few moving on) i'm very positive about thie season ahead.

based on what i've seen and what we know, my 1st team would be:

reina;
johnson,agger,skrtel,enrique;
stevie,lucas,aquliani;
suarez,borini,pacheco;

2nd team - each player listed below is direct replacement for those in 1st team.

gulasci
Mclaughlin,coates,kelly,robbo;
shelvey,hendo,adam;
cole,morgan,downing;

additional squad players;
carra, flano, bellers, sterling, suso, sama, wisdom, adorjan, coady, ibe

for me Carroll, spearo, eccleston, doni, jones, wilson are the most likely to move on, possibly aquilani too depending on where his head is at and bellers too with cardiff/qpr interest.

if i could choose who/what type of player to bring in:

CM - Allen - tidy player, knows Br's style so will easily adapt, prem experience, good passer, keeps ball moving, tracks back, perfect foil for lucas allowing stevie to burst forward without having to worry about getting back.

A fast winger - e.g. Walcott - pace to burn, just what we're missing. loads of prem experience. all you doubters re end product, look at his stats, last 2-3 seasons good goals/assists ratio good for wide man. plus have you forgot how he terrorised barca a few seasons back?

another CF - darren bent type, 'jonny on the spot' finisher. hey, what about darren bent...?

experienced LB cover for enrique.

other than that i think we've got it pretty much covered. in all depts.

one thing i would say to all my fellow reds is don't be so negative about who's coming in...trust the manager. he knows what he wants and what type will suit his game plan. the price tag is irrelevent to us fans. that's for the board to see what we can afford and is it value for money.

it'd be safe to say they've learnt a very valuable lesson this last 18 months or so. they won't make the same mistakes again...

sorry once again for long post...thoughts peeps?

Some people on here need to kop on. When Sky sports say something negative or link Suarez, Skrtel, Reina, Agger etc with moves away, The pople on here say 'sly sports' or they say you can never believe sky. But now sky have said Ramirez is coming to england and his likely destination is liverpool. The same exact people agree with sky and say hes basically signed.

We need to realise we cant attract players like that anymore. Why do you think were going for borini and allen? Suarez and skrtel will be off aswell. luke

Luke are you a manc

26 Jul 2012 13:14:44
I have a couple of points regarding the whole Joe Allen situation as they don't seem to agree with what liverpool are doing. Am I not right in saying one of the first thing's laudraup said about him was if the right price was right he would consider selling him? Also in another statement to the press he said he would not stop allen if he wanted to leave? So are they not contradicting themselves?

26 Jul 2012 13:02:43
jonjo shelvey looked like he really knows how to play football. he can move the ball well in a crowd. the team looks better with him on the field.

26 Jul 2012 13:02:41
Gaston ramirez would be absolutely fantastic signing as would be perfect foil with suareZ. Possibly keeping him with us personally wish that it was us but says a lot when spurs are signing better quality players than liverpool now. All the criticism of owners is justified but not completly right they have more money than what people think but i do feel it is a bit unlucky on rodgers behalf that he is feeling the pinch of dalglishs reign. Not fair go if im honest though. We all have been waiting for the marquee signing to get us excited since they took over but i dont think id b the only one in saying i havent really been swept of my feet with any signings.20m downing ud think ud be very excited but noo... We always go for average players, saying we cant afgord very best or there wages, well lets show our ambition and splash it that way our best players will stay and encourage more to come.

Excellent...get him..ramirez for around 18 mill is an absolute great business...i would love him with suarez and boroni..

26 Jul 2012 12:56:30
I for one think the appointment of Brendan Rodgers will turn out to be the best decision Liverpool FC have made in a generation !
discuss...

puzzled

I think rodgers is the man for liverpool. I never wanted dalglish sacked. But we have to move on. A lot of people wanted some of the more known names is football like pep, vaan gaal but i think in appointing rodgers liverpool have done well. He's young and wants to succeed plus he gets his side playing passing football. We should not expect wonders from him. If the owners support him over 3 to 4 years i can see us doing pretty well.

Ed, please predict where LFC will finish this season. I am thiking top 6

I'll go 6th and the League Cup again.

Thought Shelvey had a tremendous game, he was focused and alert, good movement, and certainly has a eye for goal, and prepared to get stuck in.
I think with further development he can become a great asset to LFC.
Though I speculate here, maybe even the long term replacement for Stevie G.

The other lads, Suso, Morgan, Mclaughlin (spelling I am sure), Sama etc all show tremendous potential.
Add to that Sterling, Wisdom, Coady (is he on the tour?) Pacheco, etc.

I know its still early (career wise) for many of them, but I have to admit to being 'Very' proud of the LFC youngsters, and look forward to seeing more of them in the months and years to come.

If anything, the two games have 'showcased' what is 'waiting in the wings at LFC'.
Well done lads, and my thanks to BR and FSG for giving 'our youth' a go!.
Proud as always LFC fan.

I watched the Roma game last night and was very impressed with the youngsters, especially Shelvey and McLaughlin. However, Spearing and Jose Enrique were awful. A little concerned by our lack of firepower too. We really don't need Allen, we have loads of good central midfielders. Money would be better spent on forwards and a left back.

We have a lack of fire-power cos Carroll & Borini only got to the USA on Monday! Plus Suarez is on Olympic duty with Uruguay!
We wont get Allen til next season but deal is agreed already... Enrique was struggling with an injury during the week so he has an excuse, Spearing was terrible but we cant really judge a player in pre-season, pre-season is all about building fitess...

26 Jul 2012 12:34:16
Why are we trying to sign De Vries?

Can only assume it;s because Doni has disappeared off the face of the earth, and Gulacsi has a LOT to work on (his distrubution against Roma was nothing short of abysmal!)

Backup.

There has been talk for some time about Jones & Doni moving on

Because Rodgers is going for players he has worked with before not players with the edge we need

BR like his old player thats it. I think Gulachi done well yesterday.

26 Jul 2012 12:32:50
Nealy out of business under Randolph & Mortimer this is going to take time...know one's how much FSG have to spend on us but there are minted as there are a group of 17...

Think fans should try supporting the team and backing the new players instead of moaning..

26 Jul 2012 12:32:19
Pardew is advising LFC to accept a reasonable price for Carrol. The question is that Newcastle took 35m for him and are expect lfc to get a throw away price?

If anybody needs to be realistic then that person should ashley/pardew with the price.
LFC should stick to their guns.

They should tell Pardew and Co to shove it. They are most likely laughing behind our backs. Mugged us already on the sale to us of AC, now they want to do the same again. AC should be given one more season to prove himself. Ridiculous even thinking of selling him!
Lee73

Mugged yes indeed ,but who forced you to pay £35m ? your club has only themselves to blame for paying it. As you admit it was too much tell me how he should now sell for £20m which is £10 m more than he is worth?

26 Jul 2012 12:29:45
Not a rumour but everyone is now raving about dani Pacheco as a young prospect which I am not saying is a bad thing he is a good player, but yet everyone still slags off Jordan Henderson expecting him to be a world beater already but him and Pacheco are the same age! Some fans need to get real with how they see Henderson he is going to be a top player

If Henderson was From Uruguay or Spain etc he'd be amazing, that's how some fans see it.

I urge people to watch 'A toast to Jordan Henderson' it really does show what he's capable of if played in the right position. He will be a top player within a few seasons, and if we sell him it would be a real shame.

Red Raw

Age has nothing to do with ability. Pacheco we haven't really seen much of apart from pre season friendlies here and there. Henderson we saw a full season of and at the end of that my evaluation is that he is far from being a first team player in the squad. He will come good especially with the European experience he'll be getting next season, but his slating is deserved.

Hendeson right position?...u have any idea..wer gerrard played?..LM, RM, CM, DM, Striker..
and look mascherano?
he plays CB..
dont give s*** excuse for hendo not playing..

If that last post was aimed at me the. You're a fool!
If you think any top player can play in any position, why not throw Suarez in goal or Skrtel on the right wing?
Just because Gerrard can play multiple positions and Mascherano can be relied upon to slot in defense doesn't mean Henderson isn't a top player in his position.
Henderson done the best he could when shoved out on the right, but didn't look comfy. Any person who watched Liverpool play when he was moved to a central role will tell you he played better.
The problem is that persons like you will only pick up on the negatives and completely miss the positives, you probably hated Lucas until a couple of seasons ago too.

Red Raw

26 Jul 2012 12:22:33
I agree with Macca.
Let's all get behind the owners, the manager, and the players and start acting like proper scousers and support the reds come what may.
The negativity, booing etc, is not our style and people who want to do that should stay away and restrict themselves to one of the comical phone ins we hear on certain radio stations.

26 Jul 2012 12:51:45
Aquilani has said in an interview he wants to prove himself at Liverpool, again I don't see him leaving.

Read the article on bbc and rogers seems to want to give him a chance. I would pick Allen and aqualani over Allen and Adam as my two playmakers anyway.

26 Jul 2012 12:42:50
That team that very nearly beat a strong Roma side had arguably only 2 players in it who will be regulars next year. Skrtel and Enrique.

We were missing; Reina, Johnson, Agger, Lucas, Gerrard, Allen?, Suarez, Carroll/Dempsey and Borini.

Roma had 6 of there starting XI and some squad players, we had some squad players, some academy players and 2 regulars..

We were playing our second game under a new manager, they were in there 5th i think with a very settled manager.

People need to chill. Don't believe the crap sky report either.

Can i just say that Joe Cole has been excellent so far. Everybody is quick to comment on the passing range of Shelvey, Suso and Adam etc. But Cole is the only midfielder who so far has pastered the 'move' part of Rodgers system. Watch the highlights of the games. Every pass he plays, he follows giving the player an option and forming a triangle. He may not be fast, strong or spectacular, but technically, he's probably the bext player in our whole squad.

Before you click disagree, i urge you to watch his highlights.

YNWA! (Adam)

Lucas and Agger played a bit

Agger played last night! As did Carragher, Lucas and Adam... Pre-season is all about fitness, the results dont mean anything, last night Shelvey was the best player by far going forward... I have my doubts about Joe Cole, £90k a week in wages is a big risk for someone thats prone to injury and hasn't performed to a high level in England since 2009 IMO.

Rocky

Joe cole showed some real quality last night, I think we should keep him as a utility player for that CAM role when gerrard needs a rest or either side of the front three as a sub. would add depth to the squad

Aggers first game back after 3 weeks training.. Lucas has played 30mins in the last 7 months.. Skrtel and Enrique are our only regulars who've had time to even get slightly used to the system !

After watching the game again this morning heres my view;
* Gulacsi didn't do too bad but simply 'hoofed' too much possesion away.
* McCloughlin had a good game and IMO should be ahead of Flanagan, his ball retention is much better and looks a much more rounded player.
* Enrique looked rusty but will improve as pre-season goes on (hopefully). He has all the attributes required to be a top class defender but at the moment his form is not the best.
* Sama had a quiet game really, not having that much to do, but being so young he hasn't looked out place at all, and has handled the physical side of defending admirably for someone so inexperienced at top level. Good prospect.
* Spearing, I just don't see that he will ever get to the level required. Love his passion and effort but unfortunately the ability just isn't quite there.
* Aquilani sprayed some nice balls around the field, but that was about it. There was very little movement or effort after his passes to try and link up the play.
* Adam, I thought he was our MOTM. Always looked for the ball, spread some nice passes around the pitch and generally made his self available at all times. He also carried the ball very well.
* Suso has ability in abundance and from his 2 performances so far looks like he will be the break through star of the season. I feared he would be too slight but he has more than held his own so far. He goes looking for the ball and moves into space to recieve the ball. For me is much more deserved of a place in our team than Aquilani.
* Adorjan looks star struck. He is still young but so far hasn't done anything but give the ball away. Still very young though so time to improve.
* Sterling has done himself no harm but has not quite made the same impression as Suso. His pace and directness has defenders scared and the more games he plays (especially with the 1st team player) the better he'll get. The one area he probably needs to improve the most is his decision making. He shows for the ball though and tracks back so as long as he keeps progressing this way he'll get quite a few games this season.
* Cole had a tidy game. When he turned and committed his man he opened up the game a few times, but is lacking that burst of speed to really make a difference at the top level. He puts alot of effort in and gives it his best but unfortunately for him he won't get in our starting 11 and there are other players ahead of him for a place on the bench.
* Shelvey is obviously gonna be a big player for us in the future, but the problem I see for him is ATM their are too many players infront of him to get the experience he needs. I think he needs to go on loan to another EPL side for a season. Did well in possession of the ball and created a few chances.
* Pacheco has had 2 good games. He kept the ball very well and looked a threat throughout. Looks like he could fit into the front 3 system we are trying to play very well. The Ed's say he is a poor trainer so as long as he understands he's in last chance
saloon and knuckles down he will be a valuable squad member this season.
* Eccleston has been anonymous.
* Morgan looks like what he is, a predator. Someone who will be in the right time at the right place. He has been compared to a young Fowler, but is nowhere near the level Fowler was at his age (not many are or ever will be). He gets about the pitch and puts plenty of effort in, but I don't think he has the presence to quite make an impact in the EPL just yet, but will be a future 1st team player for us.

Hopefully we'll see more of the established players against spurs, especially those who only played a few minutes at the euros.

Tommy Walsh

We badly need a defensive midfielder to step in if Lucas is out. Spearing is awful, can't tackle and his passing is horrendous.

Would agree with pretty much all of that, was really impressed with mclaughlin thats the first time ive seen him play. i thought shelvey was man of the match mind you and i would say the opposite of what you said about suso and sterling i think sterling has shone a little bit more than suso especially in the toronto game but all in all i think your pretty spot on

Agree with that apart from I think Joe Cole had a good game against Roma and that Aquilani was at the centre of everything in the first half and passed and moved and was in a position to re pass again. I think your opinion on Aquilani is a bit far off.

26 Jul 2012 12:09:51
Gaston Ramirez agent says he will be in London for talks over his players move to the epl! The rumour is that he will of course be speaking to spurs as they have a policy of just going after other teams targets, however eds/Macca is there a possibility we are still in for him and doing our talking down south?

Looking forward to watching Allen on BBC 1 tonight (8pm kick-off) even though his not officially a red quite yet

Don't get too excited, remember what happened with Sigurdsson. Spurs are unlikely to agree a fee for Moutinho and apparently Allen is the next player on AVB's shortlist. Perhaps best to watch with a neutral eye, rather than picturing him as a Liverpool player. I think he will end up at Liverpool, but it could all end in tears again so don't get too attached.

i just watched the roma friendly and thought we done well considering for a friendly it was up ther with the best ive seen liverpool play it was a game of 2 halves just flashback to the friendlies from the last few seasons and u willl say this one was by far and all more like the tempo of a game u want in preseason.

Hai Ed..great site and excellent work..really happy for you.
I have couple of questions for you.
You have repeatedly posted about gaston ramierz situation..
you think is there any chance that liverpool can actually have in?
he is reall quality and wont demand excess wages.
if he joins I would be happy to ship aqualini and adam?
dempsy and allen are set to join which will cost us somewhere 23 mill?
are you particularly happy with both signing?

Lb is a worry for me
what are your thoughts on it?
{Ed001's Note - there is a chance of getting Ramirez, he wants first team football, but I wouldn't put any money on it. I don't understand why you would want to lose Adam? He is desperate to succeed for us, he just needs more confidence in himself, it is clearly lacking right now. He is not on high wages and, at his best, he can be lethal from set piece situations. Better to get rid of Cole, who earns more than twice as much, offers little and is getting on a bit. As for left back, I would like to see Robinson given a chance, Enrique has returned to playing like he did every time I watched him at Newcastle. Shame, after such a promising start, I really thought he was going to prove me wrong about him and had high hopes. But he has lost his way.}

Thats great ed..saw today aqua wants to stay and fight..I think its gonna improve our squad..
rather than sending him on loan and paying 60% money its better we keep him and play for us..
As the seaosn progress I can see he will be lethal with gerrard, suarez and ramirez up front...
whats ur thought?

I can understand why Swansea are so angry to be honest. While I have been very impressed with Rodgers so far one element of his style I haven't liked so far is his willingness to scream from the rooftops his Liverpool targets and transfer plans. I remember clearly in his first press conference that he said he "doesn't like talking about other clubs players", and rightly so.. this is the Liverpool way. Yet he has made it blatantly clear to the media and even gone in front of cameras saying he wants Allen and Dempsey, I don't like this. He also made no secret of the fact we wanted Borini. I just don't think this publicity is necessary and it is probably only increasing the fee we will have to pay for both.

Either way it looks like both will be signed regardless. Borini has already come in as we know and De Vries looks like being brought in as back up to Pepe. If Carroll leaves another striker will be brought as Macca has said but it will be someone who can play out wide or centrally in the front three as Rodgers likes. Kevin Mirallas perhaps is a decent option or maybe the kid from Barca, Deulofeu but he is young and probably wanted to be kept by the Catalans. I could see Rodgers becoming interested in Sinclair if he doesn't agree to a new contract at Swansea. I expect Carroll to return to Newcastle.
The Gooch.

In all fairness rodgers didn't talk about transfers until interest was already confirmed from te other side, although i too am disappointed that liverpool haven't honoured the agreement between swansea and themselves, unless spurs or another premier league club made inquiries
derryred

Rodgers is merely answering the questions about the players, he isn't seeing he wants to sign them, he is just acknowledging that they are good.
He is honest and a breath of fresh air. He isn't rude, gets along with the press very nicely. We don't want another PR blunder, so far it doesn't seem there will be one.

Chaki

Have I missed something? When has BR 'gone in front of the cameras and blatantly said who his targets are'? As far as I can see, when asked he's done his best to deflect the questions and not discuss other teams players.

Macca's right, why would we want our rivals to think we have money to burn? This will only make it easy for teams to screw us in the market, with or without Comolli. If we come out and say we are going to buy this and that then the price is going to rise 5-10million. The money is there but needs to be used wisely and within reason. That's one thing we'll take from last season's transfer dealings

Listen to Macca. I run/own a couple of small/medium sized businesses and believe me, you don't show your hand until you need to, and the very last thing you do is start bragging about how much cash you have to spend. FSG are business men and business men make money. The only way they will get a return on their investment is to win trophies, and that may take time. LFC is not a rich mans toy like City, QPR, Chelsea

Lmfao, QPR?! You're kidding

26 Jul 2012 15:05:57
Trouble with some of the posters on this site, is that they are deliberately opposed to whatever FSG or Brendan do, even to the point that they eventually end up contradicting themselves!
Macca is right...we don't have the money to splash the cash (and even if we did why would we brag about it), so like any good business we need to be prudent.
I may be old fashioned but I don't want to "buy" success anyway(if you can do that). I would rather take things a little slower, be patient and build a side who fit together perfectly like a jigsaw. Silly I know, but I just think the best things in life come with a bit of effort, patience and even a liitle pain along the way.

about Macca's post.
it's not only about money, I think most people disagree the target of ours.
Man u have kagawa.
Chelsea have Hazard, marin, Oscar
Arsenal get podolski, Carzola
we are going to many unproven young player.
Borini not even regular in Roma. He may become good but still unproven mark there. Now Allen ? when we have Hendo and jonjy his back up why we need Allen ? Suasaeta is there, and lots of player in spanish league is good. I feel we just know EPL player only and fed them well for next England star. I just post my though , no disrespect to anyone. sorry for miss spelling.

hhh

The fact you signed off with a WWE name syas it all really.

Add on Tottenham get Gylfi and chasing Ramirez. £15m for Allen ? why not £20m for Ramirez any thought guys?

Not Liverpool related, but a interesting topic never the less.

Its true that Alan Pardew is only the Newcastle manager because he owes either Llambias or Ashley money. Was this through gambling he? If so, is Pardew partial to abit of casino filth?

Sam Adzii jft96

Highly plausible - there were often jokes down here in southampton about him being in the Grosvenor after every game. Also, the reason he got the sack from soton was because of having affairs with other staff members' wives... d!ck.

26 Jul 2012 11:41:29
only pre season not really worried about results as the games are only fitness work for players but i have to say the form of enrique is still cause for concern, from christmas last year to even last night he has been shocking, cant defend, awful positioning, and his passing has gone to pot. i think a lack of competition for his left back slot may have come into his mind set.

cobra

I wouldn't really worry about that just yet. after all rodgers does have them pressing really high up the pitch. take it from me that a pressing game really does butcher the defenders. he will have to adjust to the system and i'm sure rodgers has picked up on it and is coachng him on it.
derryred

Is Jack Robinson fit- he can play much better.

I agree mate. he has been really poor since christmas. Im not worried about the long term solution to our lb conundrum, coz i believe robinson will be ready. but if enrique does not step up, we should cash in on him in january.
Indian Buzzer

Re - derryred, rodgers wasnt in charge last season, and enrique has been poor for six months, with all the issues mentioned, nothing to do with pressing game.

Where are the wingers man........We need wingers.

I think Raheem done well yesterday. he is fast tricky and full of confident. Hope he get chance this year.

Why on earth er need wingers..wen we play 4-3-3??...we are not playing any long balls to the box?
We need a good left footed quick player to play upfront..
ramirez will fit in exactly..
Barca never score goals from heads..they never play with wingers.
its 4-3-3...

26 Jul 2012 11:38:09
ramirez's agent has said that he is in london having talks with a prem club. i was just wondering if you know who it is.
i just hope its not spuds as they seem to not have a scouting system of their own.

QPR are desperate to bring Raheem Sterling back to Loftus Road.
Tony Fernandes usually gets his way.

He is too young till jan eds have said this loads of times.

Hi ed, would just like to ask your opinion on the ramirez situation. With his agent claiming that he is going to london to hold talks with an unamed premier league team, do you think this could be a ploy to drum up some kind of interest in the player or do you believe it to be true? and if so which team could he be in talks with?

Thanks in advance

Ian the red {Ed001's Note - there is plenty of interest in him, it is just to make it known he is available and to try and drum up an auction.}

FSG sack Kenny start with Crueff as a DOF , Then Tixi is on news paper. but end with Rodgers ? I don't have any hope on FSG or BR but I have best wish for them as they are my Beloved club Liverpool.

Talk sports say's Ramirez agent in London talk with a EPL club. Bolognia want 25m euro. £20m if Liverpool lost him to Tottenham then Liverpool lost 4rt place to tottenham for sure.

red-don

His agent likes to talk to try and drum up interest.

Buy him for god sake..plss..he will rock the PL..he is exactly the missing link..pace and excellent shooting...he can score goals...with him suarez and boroni we could hit plenty of goals this season........

Spurs r broke fact they wont be spending 20m on 1 player only if its all they r spending and they need strikers badly

Yeah, Totenham have the funds and a Manager who can attract Ramirez while Ramirez wouldn't turns us down we have unfortunately no money to land players of such quality.

The unnamed club I believe is Spurs no way it could be LFC.

Wowo what a mess LFC is in, FSG Out!

Why would anyone want to play for AVB. The arrogance of the man is astounding. He almost ruined Chelsea and the players hated him. He will be sacked by Christmas.

Not a bad result for a mix of 1st/reserves/youth on the 2nd friendly of season against a strong Roma side who've played 4-5 games already.... see it for what it is!

We have lots to look forward to. mclaughlan impressed me, as did suso and adorjan. we have good youth players that most teams would love to have.

Sky Sports reporting Ramirez is set to leave Italy for the Premier League mentions of Liverpool being the likely destination. True or more media rubbish? I'd personally love a player of his quality coming in. We shall see.

I've seen another report that says his agent has landed in London to go to speak to Ramirez (who's with Uruguays olympic team) and then he is then going to go to speak to Liverpool officials to finalise the deal.
At the end it says Ramirez has had his heart set on playing for Liverpool for some time, thats why Juve, Milan and others have pulled out.

we will see.

Spurs have the funds once they've sold modric because they haven't got £20 mill to dish out on a player that is deemed as a potential risk. FSG did plenty of that previously £20 mill on Henderson £16 mill downing, £35 mill on Carroll, even Suarez was a risk but he proved to be worth his price tag. Is Spearing The New lucas to Liverpool fans , get behind the lad ! and support him yes he made a mistake against Chelsea in the cup final , but how many has Suarez , Gerrard , Skertel made etc
he works hard and does his best so if picked get of his back and is still very young

our fans use to be great but we really have a sky sports generation now ,these days am sure most go to the game just to say they were there and take pictures of gerrard taking corners

K.O.B

He's crap... Simples !

Stevie.

Kenny was fired because of sloppy midfield passes leading to goals against and the lack in creative attacking play, pace or a killer ball leading to Liverpool goals.
Spearos a great mascot but if Lucas is out last season proved we need better otherwise we'll be 7 th again and another manager bites the dust.

Spearing is not good enough to polish Lucas boots. Overated just because his balls are made of Anfield pitch grass ..

Bosco

He isnt young anymore. he is going to turn 24 this year.but he does play for the club

Lucas was only a kid when everyone was slating him. Spearing is not a kid anymore

redkenyan

I think he is a great squad player to have. he gives his all, loves the club and is on smaller wages. i would sell a good few other players before i sell him.

Lucas came from a far off country, had to learn a different language, was only 21 when he came here. Rafa turned him into a cdm from his original cm position, hence why he took so long to become the player he is. i would not say the same about spearing. Its high time we forget sentiments n move him on to a smaller club coz he aint good enough for us.

Shocking display against Roma last night, Rodgers tried to make us over pass the ball around and we got destroyed, Roma could have scored 13 goals if they had of took it a bit more serious. Agger and Skrtel obviously didnt want to be there and dint look even slightly interested. Shelvey is championship quality and Adam is about a stone and a half over weight. Carragher needs to retire, He should of retired 2 seasons ago, If he loved this club as much as he says he does then he would do the right thing and retire and stop costing us games, goals and points. He cost us about 35 points in the last 2 seasons

If we agree to pay 15m for Joe Allen then we will be laughed at. Why do we always pay stupid money for average players? 35m for Carroll and now Newcastle and West Ham wont even pay 14m for him. Henderson 20m Downing 18m Adam 7m and Coates 6m. We were robbed last season and i thought we would of learned our lesson. But now we've just paid 11m for Borini. Worth 5m at most, He's had a couple of bad injuries and has only played 33 games in 4 seasons. Now 15m for Allen? What a joke we are becoming

Brendan Rodgers has his work cut out for him, But i can see him failing if he persists with this tiki-tika nonsense. We are not Barca. Even City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal struggle to play like Barca. We have no hope

Graham YNWA

Graham you know nothing about football mate.

SteKop

Do me a favour go and watch again. Getting sick to the back teeth of negative posts on here. Dont sign of with YNWA if you dont know the meaning of it. Shelvey has been one of the standouts on this tour. The whole event over the last to weeks is to increase our profile and increase fitness.

Chelsea also lost after spending all that money are they relegation material too.?

Mike S

Shocking post. Obviously has no sense of reality. Judging by the majority of posts on here, Graham, you DO walk alone!
Kev1950

Positive thinking there mate. Obviously a blue nose or a manc

Wow! That's all I have to say. Wow!

Kez

Its people like you that make me sick of coming on this site. why are you so negative, wake up and join the real world.

Support another club then. This post literally has NOTHING constructive in it. Zero. We've got ages until the transfer window shuts, we played a bunch of youngsters against an experienced Roma side with some of our best players away, and you make your assessment on how the squad will play off this one display? It's absolutely ridiculous. Chelsea played the likes of Marin and Hazard against MLS All Stars and lost - does that mean they're doomed too? Take your negative nonsense elsewhere, it's really starting to get me down reading this constant doom and gloom.

You are a tool my friend, for one we played 2 different teams for each half, both teams filled mostly with reserves, Roma have a lot more pre season games under their belt, the cost of Joe Allen shouldn't matter, it's what BR thinks he's worth, no Danny Wilson was at fault for the 2 hoals I think

Not being funny mate and I know you've put YNWA after your name but there is no love for LFC in what you write, The team itself did ok with the amount of youngsters, ex loaned players and coming back from injury players in it and this is what BR wants to see. We may have lost but I bet BR got alot out of watching these players pushing for first team places, be critical if you have to but don't down right belittle this great club on the basis of this game it was never about the result.

KernowRed

What game was you watching and you need to relax it was a young team and as for Allen I would say his worth is around 12 million so we ant going over by alot in my eyes he is a young good midfielder remember how every one used to rip Lucas! you need to give Brendan time and the new players a chance.
Deanalfie

Why havent you had a chip at the owners while you at it !
Piddy.

IF BR wants to make it here sell the overrated flops, Spearing, Downing, Joe Cole, Carroll, Adam.

Use the funds to buy some quality players & give the youngsters a chance.

BR has a tough test with poor funding from FSG

Bosco

BEHAVE.... it was a strong Roma team against a Liverpool side mainly made up of Reserves and Youth players. How can you say we were destroyed it was 2-1 they had alot of first teamers we had very few, Joe Cole hit the bar Shelvey had some good chances, and is turning into a quality player. The stupidity of some supposed fans on here amazes me.

We're not the only team that makes expensive mistakes! Plus, I thought Shelvey looked brilliant last night, tons of energy, good composure and skill. Reminded me of a young Mr. Gerrard!
So who do you think we should get then and for how much?

Just a few points on last night for you - first, we played our Reserves and Youth teams. We had a 16yr old RB who looked like a future star and Jonjo is 20 and i thought he had a cracking first half. Pacheco showed real skill as well and both will develop into better players under BR. Adam IS overweight, but his passing can be excellent and his fitness sorted with the right techniques (i never believed KKs traning just by getting players to do a lot of running was ever going to achieve anything).

Furthermore, last night we had no Gerro, no Suarez and our star defenders didnt play out of their skins because they had no need to. Agger still got forward when needed and Skrtle made some solid clearences. job done. Lucas has played about 50mins of football since his injury and Cole was a workhorse and obviously desperate to impress.

Have to disagree with the last sentence as well - if BR can make a 28yr old nobody into the BEST PASSER IN EUROPE in the players' first PL season, he will do well with what we have.

the only problem with adapting to the new style will be the senior players who have spent the last 18months just lobbing the ball up to the big man with no results. The only players on the pitch next season will be ones who can play in the style and do it well.

WE have hope, feel free to stop following our beloved club if you dont feel the same way.

Dr. Sanchez

Glass half-full kinda guy huh?
KiwiRed

For goodness sake....
Our second pre-season game, with very few first team definites in the line-up, against a strong Roma side, we lost by an odd goal and some of the youngsters particularly played pretty well, but the world is ending?! Chelsea also lost last night, does this mean they're in for a terrible season? Manchester city lost and drew in their first 2 pre-season games aswell, their season must be in tatters aswell by your rationale.
We have our regulars back now, gaining fitness before playing, we have potential new signings imminent, who will lift the squad and improve the first team, and we have a hungry young manager who clearly has a massive desire to win. I'm not suggesting we are going to win the league, but please give the manager and the team time, and most of all, give them SUPPORT to do well, if you can't do that very basic need of a 'supporter' then go and support someone else.

I notice aswell the YNWA at the end of your message, clearly you don't understand it's true meaning, as no matter what we do, how we play, who plays, it means that we will stand together no matter what, that we will sing with pride even if times are hard. People are entitled to their opinion of course, but our first job is to support the team, then and only then will we progress.

The captain

Give the team a chance lad, they have just (just) started to adopt Rodgers way of playing. We are also introducing a lot of young, inexperienced youngsters into the fray. I thought Liverpool created lots of chances although our defending was poor at times. Having said that Roma looked a couple of weeks ahead of us in terms of fitness. I thought Shelvey was excellent and Pacheco played well too. Suso looked lively as well as the young McLaughin who looked good going forward, an encouraging performance from Cole! All in all a really entertaining game and once we recall some of the first team, I see no reason why we cannot push for a coveted Champions league spot...

You negative muppet. look at how rogers did at swnasea with relatively unknown players and much less quality than he has at liverpool. Now give him some time to implement this system with better players, then lest judge him

Eds, Im guessing if we do sell players..the money will be added to the transfer funds? If so...we are looking at spending around 20-25m on Allen and Dempsey...and if we do sell skirtl and carroll for the figures mentioned...thats another 30-33m so what im trying to say is..we would have 50-58m in the kitty.
Coates can drop into skirtls position meaning our defence would be sorted...gerrard and lucas part of the middle 3 with suarez and borini 2 of the front 3 leaving 2 positions up for grabs.
So why wouldnt we get better players? makes no sense...If BR had 500m to spend...he wouldnt be buying Allen and Dempsey....I have nothing against these players and they would be good signings but we are Liverpool football club and every player we sign should be world class....all this talk of signing "potential" players is rubbish...we have suso, pacheco and sterling who have it, so we dont need more.

JOZLFC

Warning: do not read!

Even tho Roma are nowhere close to as good now as where a good few years ago, the team they sent out was a much older and experienced team, which also had a lot more preparation time and match's.

We (ie.LFC) have had much less time to settle, Rodgers is still getting to know the players strengths and weaknesses, and how he wants to use them. The players are getting used to a new style of play and it will take time for them to get used to it. If some of the more experienced players look at little disinterested in the match, it may just mean they find friendly's where nothing is on the like is boring.

On the Carra issue, i think he would be a better coach as this moment in time, but still has limited uses vs certain teams, usually ones who can't exploit speed that heavily.

The Carroll deal has been said a million times and you need to educate yourself on how it was done the 50mil of Torres is what Chelsea paid but Torres value was nowhere near the realistically considering how he had played for the year plus beforehand (A 40/25mil or 35/20mil would be way more realistic but NFC were greedy and exploited Chelsea's willingness to pay over the odds). Hendo is young and English so 20mil could be a good bit of business overall. Coates is young and has got some major rewards could be a very good buy for 6mil. Borini wait and see, had a good record last season with goals per games but I always worry about players who injure easily. Allen is a prickly case due to the BR not signing from Swansea deal haven't seen enough full games of him really, a lot of MoTD etc, but looked a good player (not World Class) but age is yet again on his side. Overall the fee's being paid for players if it is a little expensive maybe the wage costs make the deal much superior overall to comparable deals.

I don't believe Chelsea, United or City even try to play like Barca really. Arsenal do have a lot of similarities. I don't agree in Tiki Taka being nonsense due to it winning so my major trophies recently.

Yes BR has a difficult job ahead with massive pressure but that's what being a premiership manager challenging for top 4 is all about.

After watching the Roma game I am extremely happy, during the game we made 11 subs and to come up against what was virtually Romas 1st team with our mixture of seniors, mainly reserves and u18s I am very happy. We played some wonderfull football at times and on another day we could have scored several goals. We also dominated possession which against such calibre opposition with such a mixture team was great to see. All we need to do is integrate these kids 1 by 1 during the season.

Yeah and they are also closer to match fitness than we are too. good to see other fans with brains. just look at it as a friendly. if the result actually meant anything then i'm sure it will be a different result.

We should forget Allen if Swansea wants a penny more than 10M, better spend that 15M or so money on another quality player.

3M for Michu 15M for Allen what a BIG JOKE. Swansea can F##K Off

With Carroll being flown out to the USA to take part in preseason, could we assume that his sale is by no means a conclusion and that he could still be playing for LFC by sept 1st?

When the manager says, No-one will be sold untill i have spoken to them and assessed them, and the right offer comes in for them.. one can assume Carroll is in the states cos he is a Liverpool player on a Pre season tour, meeting the manager and showing his skills.. Like EVERY other Liverpool player!

Walked into work this morning to chants of "OSCAR! OSCAR!" "Have you ever seen him play?" I asked "No" came the reply "So how do you know he's any good?"

"Because he cost 25 million"

I love Chelsea fans.

Tristan

Will he fit in? Will he adapt to the Premier League? Is he actually any good? Do you risk upsetting the Chelsea heirarchy by dropping Lampard to play him and Lampard, Terry and Cole spitting out their dummies and getting the manager the sack AGAIN?
It might not be all easy. Time will tell.

Well at least Roman can afford the 25M

Warner & Henry are doing nothing but bitching about Kenny and the money he spent over his tenure as LFC manager.

A couple of things they forgot the net spend was more like 40M not 120M and they sanctioned the transfers.

At least Roman does not go about bad mouthing his mangers for transfer flops.

Kenny has been treated very badly and that P*sses me off as a LFC supporter.

No man is biger than the club however Kenny is bigger than Warner of Henry.

The sooner we get new owners the better.

Can't understand the lack of support for Kenny.

Hazard hasn't convinced me that he's as good as his ego makes out. Oscar also unproven. If Oscar is the 'next big thing' then why weren't barcelona, real madrid, the milan clubs all in for him aswell?
Jad - I love Kenny, always will but you can't say to the owners thanks for saving our club from oblivion now clear off. They need time to build the club back up. Kenny will always be a legend, and thats why Werner said thanks to Kenny and he will always be welcome at the club, when Rodgers was appointed but I honestly think that he was always brought back for the short term. The owners are looking to the future and really, so should we.

Really wish people would stop slating FSG needlessly, open their eyes and realise they saved us from the brink of administration, paid off most of the debt and have still provided funds.

They also stated that despite having funds they wanted the club to be self sustaining. I have full faith in the owners and back them 100%. However I'm sure if a deal offers value for money and there is high potential resale value they would stump of the money.

It's time to start backing them and having some faith rather than throwing your toys out of the pram because we aren't buying every name were linked too.

Absolutely correct mate. Any business has to be self sufficient and people who say "a club like Liverpool should make large investments in players" have lost touch with reality. There must be a sound business model to finance all aspects of club development. This includes player purchases and ground development. Everything revolves around positive development.
I get so annoyed when people write that the owners must spend money just to show we are a big club. I would much prefer that we bought a player to blend in with the squad. Ground development needs to be properly organised and will be so complex. It will take time. Be patient.

Not a rumour just a concerned fan if the stories coming from Swansea are true. As a club, Liverpool have always prided themselves on conducting their business behind closed doors but improtantly, doing the right thing, not only for the players but the club, fans and global repuatation.

Now I accept we don't know all the facts but if there was an agreement and we have breached that in respect of Joe Allan then I for one will be very disappoined and concerned the route the club maybe seen to be taking.

Whilst times change and things move on, for example stadium naming rights etc, there is still place left in the game for decency, honesty and integrity.

There end the sermon.

Swansea want their cake and eat it, one minute they are saying that all players are off limits to LFC and then they may think about it if it's right for the club. If it's a full stop NO then why do they have to have a chat with J Allen about his future after the Olympics because as they have said no one else has made an approach for him. Plus BR must have know about the release clause anyway.

Hello Editors,

Can any of you shed late on the stories I am reading about Liverpool (I am in Taiwan so don't exactly have my finger on the pulse at the moment).

There have been 2 articles I have found on Sky Sports website, 1 saying Suarez 'takes a swipe' at the British Press.... as soon as you read it it is clear this is a story made from an absolutely nothing comment made by Suarez and really strikes me as an attempt to cast Liverpool and Suarez as the arch villains (as if that wasn't done enough already).

The second story was an article detailing Andy Carrolls time at Liverpool, with a timeline-photograph set-up which had the caption underneath stating that "he appears surplus to requirements at Anfield". Now as I said my finger isn't exactly on the pulse at the minute but I cannot find a single reference or quote anywhere from anyone at Liverpool saying they do not want him there. These continual attempts to undermine the club are a farce.

I am disgusted by how badly external sources and media are trying to damage Liverpool. The only quotes I have read about Carroll leaving have been opinion pieces and some tripe from Pardew. There is nothing substantial what-so-ever that I can find (please correct me if I am mistaken) to suggest Carroll is definitely on his way, or not wanted at Liverpool, or is going to be sold on the cheap. Can we, as a club, make a formal complaint about these blatent lies and attempts to destabilise the club.

'Sly' Sports indeed...

SMc

p.s. I know this isn't a rumour but it is a question about rumours surrounding the club. Either way could you guuys and girls find space to post it somewhere on here? Cheers {Ed001's Note - Sky are extremely sly, they twist everything to suit whatever their agenda happens to be. They will tell you a club is in crisis with no money to spend in their headlines, then in their transfer round up they will link said club with huge buys. They are just interested in getting people to watch their channels and bet at their bookmakers. Truth is no longer relevant to them.}

The truth certainly isn't of much relevance to them sadly - although I am happy to hear (or rather not hear) that there has been nothing from Liverpool suggesting any of the tosh I have read elsewhere has any foundation. Cheers for the response Editor.

SMc {Ed001's Note - they don't need to hear anything from the club, they will just make it up if need be, like the tabloids.}

A good observation SMc, you've put it better than i ever could. the media are what they are and as the ed say's its all about betting and attracting ratings. i wouldn't worry about it. i expect carroll to stay here at anfield, as you say there is no evidence to suggest that rodgers doesn't want him. just crazy assumptions.

I see the anti Liverpool bias has quietly started on sly sports news. It's still only the start of pre-season and they're reporting that Liverpool still haven't won. You have to laugh.

Gordy

Its pretty amusing, the thing that annoys me is Liverpool fans disagreeing with it, Liverpool haven't been a top team for a few years now, its about time we accepted it and lowered our expectations.

Let us just ignore them mate and move on as if they do not exist. The negativity about us, in most media circles is shocking and targeted. To whose benefit we wonder! This will always persist until we reclaim our respect, with results on the pitch. No wonder, its news that a Manager of a rival team, believes he is qualified to lecture us on how to conduct the future of our player, by taking losses to their benefit. I also recall another Manager suggesting how we should have dealt with one of our prized assets; that we should sell him I thought the right thing to do is for teams to mind their own businesses. Surely, if someone is penalised for Twitter comments, why not those who issue reckless, and demeaning statements. Could be wrong but just dont understand it.

Did anyone else notice that SlySports put up a graphic in the FA Cup Semi last year saying 'Andy Carroll - 10 touches in game - fewest on the pitch'! But we let the hacks away with these dirty tricks. Jealousy is a terrible thing! But look at how oul' whiskey-nose Taggart defends his club!

Taggart went on the BBC for his first time after his self-imposed 6 year exile and said that Suarez dives all over the place. The next week, the 2 Norwich centre halfs kicked him up and down all game and for the rest of the season, Suarez got nothing. How is Whisky Nose allowed to get away with this?!

I'm loving the way BR is conducting himself in interviews and the philosophy he is trying to install. However, Dempsey seems like an owners choice rather than his own, and he doesn't fit the "FSG model". If he signed then brilliant, for one, maybe two seasons. Will his form be as good when he isn't a big fish in a small pond and he doesn't play every week? Allen I would feel much better about, as he knows BR's philosophy and also will have chance to grow and develop into the shirt. (Although £15m is steep, something around £8-10m would be a fairly good deal).

If we don't get hold of these transfers due to the obvious issues with the Fulham (americans printing we got him) and Swansea (potentially breaking written agreement), I believe BR's style of play can bring out the best of Cole and Aqua.

OptimisticRed {Ed001's Note - to be fair, Dempsey has shown with his national side, where he is not the big star, that he can cope with being a smaller fish.}

Who is the big USA star then
Donovan, Bradley...Dempsey {Ed001's Note - Donovan obviously, everyone knows Donovan has been their superstar for years, that is why he is the captain. Dempsey is not a big star in the USA, he left too soon.}

Dempsey, if you ask me, has a great knowledge of the game and i would love us to have him.

We should have done what spurs did with Bale and said Suarez had a back problem then play him in the europa.

I think the lack of style, formation blubbering, the fact we couldn't keep the ball as well as looking vulnerable adds to the complaints.
I agree that it wasn't our first team out there but then again many did play. Looks like our fringe players just arnt as good as they think they are.
I still think there's more to offer but BR needs to sort out exactly what he wants and fast. The fans wouldn't put up with such performances in the non forgiving EPL and Rodgers could have sleepless night come december.
I predict a good season though and feel Suarez, Reina, Adam, Carroll, Gerrard to have a great season.
Physic red

Sorry why will Saurez not be availible is because of the Olympic duty is that all after that he will be {Ed001's Note - yes, he is not available for the initial matches due to it. I expect he will get a break afterwards too.}

Suarez is playing in the Olympics

Yes thats what you want to do piss off suarez. the only way we could get him to stay is keep him happy....

Well in all fairness roma are closer to match fitness. i'd fancy our chances of beating barca if we were match fit and they were only playing their opening friendly. i wouldn't look too much into it.

Trying to be Barcelona last night didn't work we were at Barcelona b standard, im sure we will improve over time some of the fans need to be patient and appreciate how long transfers take and how long its going to take to fit into the new 'tika taka' system great job you're doing totally addicted.
Hazza.

That was far from tiki taka,
some of the passing was woeful

Thats ok considering half r b team was on.

Well, this was Liverpool B (barring Skrtel and Enrique), so it's only natural...

We didnt play tika taka last night. Cole, Adam, Shelvy played well whilst Sterling, Suso, Morgan showed glimpses. The rest adverage at best

Good job it was Liverpool B then . Lol.

Is BR having a laugh. Allen is expensive at 10 million but liverpool are run by a bunch of clowns. How many average midfielders do we want. FSG are just like the previous owners have little money but like to talk big. They never had money to build a new stadium but made out like they did. They dont have many transfer funds but the other day werner was like we have funds bulls**t if you ask me. They have turned LFC in to a selling club.A club like Liverpool needs major investment on and off the field not just for one season using mainly money from player sales. Now we have a manager who cannot attract top quality players just players he has worked with in a mid table club. A yes man who thinks pass and move football is the only way to play.Lets see if that works at stoke away. A man who is backstabbing his old club by trying to sign players when he promised not to. A man who has never seen Carroll train yet decides to sell him announces it to the media while the lad is on holiday. A man who thinks Borini will exite the fans Rodgers is way over his head at Liverpool we will see how low we are in the table in 6 months.Spending big money on a player who is no real improvement on what we have is a joke.Spearing could not get in most championship clubs, Adam is overweight,Enrique runs up blind alleys, Gerrad cannot stay fit for very long,Suarez needs to see a shrink the list can go on. I will take a top half finish dont expect any better.

God ur depressing.....why not support other clubs and do us a favor. Please i am begging you..

Pankaz

Did you forget to sign your name Bosco?

BigBadBen

So in the one post, you've gone from saying that we're paying too much for a player. To saying that we're not spending enough money!

Football, pass and move is the Liverpool way. Some teams are willing to sacrifice identity to try and win, I hope we remain true. No quick fix.

Go support Chelsea or MC or even PSG, they have everything you want.

Good for you

Glad to see you're so positive.............could have at least signed your post.

Obversly you haven't seen much of joe Alan play much, at least he can pass a football to his own team mates something that sound easy but seem to be a problem for a lot of footballers these days. As for not give people a chance it seem your not giving BR much of one either so hypocritical springs to mind. Instead of being so pessimistic you should get behind the team give the manager a chance and see how it goes. Let's be far Daglish spent plenty of money with the owners backing and that went well dident it!

Murton red

Selling club? You make me laugh! Which player have we sold that didn't want to go? Torres, Mirrales? If Carrol is sold it will be because he is not required! Everyone is acting like he has become a world beater all of a sudden, if that's the cas why aren't City bidding for him or Utd or Chelsea even Tottenham? Answer he can't improve them just as he hasn't improved us, get a grip!

I think that a lot of people are jumping to conclusions to fast . Last season FSG invested close to 100m . BR has to try to do it on the cheap so maybe we can't sign the top players but give him time if we get players who want to play for LFC then that's a good start . I remember we paid 20m for Aqua and he hasn't shown up till now that he wants to play for LFC but people still love him . I think Borini has shown more in a week than he has coming off his holiday early to meet his new team . I think people need to relax and support the team . Oh and I can't remember BR ever saying he wants to sell big AC can you ?
Cheers

Jamesy

This may not rt posted but your way of the mark. I you didn't get hyper over all the media bull you would realise he never said Borini was our exciting player he also never announced to any media that Carroll was going. You run along and find me a clip or reliable article that states this and I will apologise. Why do you think any player of a high voluble wants to come to us? We're a team that's been in transition to long due to previous owners including David MMoores. We don't have billionaire oil rich owners that can just pay 250k a week wages and I don't think I would like that anyway. For those that think the worlds best are going to come to us just cos it's LFC need to smell the coffee. We lose a lot of players to teams in London because of the fact where the clubs based in London. Most player wives would prefer to be walking down oxford street rather than church street so get a grip.

Yes I'm happy to sign unlike original poster

Mike S {Ed001's Note - most player's wives don't decide where they go.}

Utterly disagree with most things you said. Joe Allen is a decent player and a great passer with tarriffic vision and work rate. Although having just one season in the EPL doesn't warrant a 15 million valuation, he is still a good player but I'd currently value him at 7million.
Charlie Adam gets some undeserved stick on here. The lad is a good player who can pass a ball long and short with great accuracy and has great attacking mind plus he keeps the ball. Adam work rate is superb and he's plays with honor. I predict a good season for him.
Why does Suarez need a shrink?
Borini is decent and pacey striker wo can finish.
Carroll saga was only down to the press. BR never said in public that he wants Carroll to go. Infact he said Carroll is a good player who can adapt to any style.

Last year we out played most teams but without results. It's a bit harsh to slate the team just yet. I do think a defencive midfielder and a pacey left winger is required other than that we have a strong squad.

I will take this as a joke post. But if by chance you do consider yourself to be a Liverpool fan the you're probably the most ignorant there is.

Go support another club then. LFC doesn't need fans like you

Red Ollie

Clearly you've never seen Allen play.

Also I don't think that last season Swansea were classed as a mid table club. Most people would have expected them to be fighting relegation. So if he can do that with a club like Swansea (no offense) then maybe he can achieve great things with Liverpool.
You are just one of these clowns that wants us to be throwing money around like Man City or Chelsea. If that's what you want go and support one of those teams and let us reds fans get on with supporting our own club.

Red Raw

People like you make me sick. If you don't want to watch us, go and watch someone else! Don't slag off BR and his tactics before a ball has been kicked in anger. I was at Anfield last year when Swansea were applauded off the pitch, and I have to say they were superb. The only team to outplay us last year BTW! The team was unlucky last year, but we move on. We move on together, as a club. AC never asked to come to Anfield, he was forced out by the greedy so and so's who want him back on the cheap. I hope he stay's because his attitude at the end of last season was bob on! Suarez is what he is, and we should respect him for that. Joe Allen, is decent don't you worry about that! Borini runs and runs and runs for fun. We already have a good squad a few additions will make all the difference. The only thing I feel we were at little guilty of last year was poor tactical decisions. Apparently, BR is the dogs, when it comes to tactics, and changing them, so come on fella, you either with us, or not! We can't compete with Chelsea and City, so deal with it, and be proud of our GREAT club!YNWA JFT96. Steve1961.

I would pay 15 million for allen.

Lets just give BR a chance. This was only his second game in charge and he has only just got most of his squad together,
Certain parts of original post made me laugh especially about Surez seeing a shrink. Being critical is ok but it should be constructive, if its over negative it does nobody any good.No one player can be immune from negative criticism but you have to think if your esteem was already low how would this affect you. Some players need Kid Gloves their so fragile.

Is it just me or does a front three of suarez-borini-pacheco look good. Looks of mobility, short passing, good on the ball and can score goals.
What do you guys think??

Redman

I said exactly the same after the Toronto game.
Pacheco looks v sharp, which is unusual in pre-season.

It could either mean he's up for it or he's trying to impress to get away. I personally think its the former. What really struck during last nights game was when Charlie scored Pacheco sprinted to the net to get the ball to restart the game as quick as poss. To me that's the sign of a person who's really busting a gut.

He's 21 and full of skill, no doubt. And on first impressions he's now sorting his head out too.

Sinner21

I think it looks good.
I would like another striker to be brought in. Especially is Craig goes. I also think we should keep Carroll, as another decent front three would be Suarez-Carroll-Borini.
But I'm not sure how likely Carroll staying/going is.

YNWA
JitB. JFT96

I think they would look as good as Swansea's front line last season.

Personally id prefer a team of
Reina

Agger Skrtl
Johnson Enrique
Lucas
Gerrard Henderson/Dempsey?

Borini Suarez
Carroll

I haven't seen Borini play much but in theory that sounds very exciting. Would be a bit narrow and perhaps one-dimensional but could definitely work

Hi.

Watched the game last night and thought Shelvey and Adam had a good game. It is clear to see BR has imposed a strong passing game on the team and that is a positive ( regardless of who played).

I have to say however that we didn't as so often under Kenny carry a clear attacking threat in the final third. We quite often passed for the sake of it. We need to play with a clear number 9 up top and i honestly believe in Andy C we have a clear focal point for players like suarez and Borini to play off of. If he leaves he needs to be replaced with quality.

Playing with just attacking midfielders will not work int he prem.

jon

There is far too much passing backwards

Did anyone think we looked alot more impressive when Morgan was on.So stands to reason that Carroll should thrive on this sort of game and Borini.

Kopping a feel

What, as opposed to lumping it forward and losing possession, or tring to play a killer pass that isn't on and losing possession! Those of us brought up with the Liverpool team of the 70's and 80's watched them pass it backwards, sidewards and forwards - but keep possession. It's simple really, you can't score if you don't have the ball and the other team can't score if you do. Scouser Tommy

Morgan was unlucky a few times. i know one time he was level when the flag was raised.

Hi eds why are we trying to sing joe allen where is he going to play hes not as good as lucas and gerrerd and i think henderson will come good 15 million for allen and barcelona signed alba for 11.5 million we paid 12 million for boreni and hes not as good as carroll just cant understand BRs thinking
Thanks regthered

Dont ever slate somebody in a post while comparing him to Lucas.

The slating Lucas got from our supporters was really shameful. He said in a recent interview that it has never been a happy life at the club and always has been a struggle.

Regarding Alba - Do you have any idea what a buy-back clause is?

Henderson is mentioned better than Allen. He is one of my favourite player. but the flak he took from people last year was unbelievable.

By the way the team needs a good defensive player to play as a DM when Lucas is absent. Moreover, Gerrard wll not play every match. So who do you want to play then - Spearing??

Borini for 12 million was a very good signing. He scored the same number of goals as Carroll last season although he was injured for a long time. He is versatile, mobile and a poacher. Which of the above qualities does Carroll have?
How can anybody have a problem when we make a signing that actually makes sense?

Coming back to Allen deal if we somehow do not manage to get him, you can be sure that by next year he will have a valuation of around 25 mil because it is really hard to find a good passing midfielder in today's game, where the fans expect every midfielder to be able to score around 10 goals a season.

If Spurs somehow manage to get Allen, I think he would take up the Modric role in their midfield. The question is that would you like to face a midfield of Parker-Allen-VDV or have Gerrard/Henderson-Lucas-Allen?

Corvin

Barcelona let him go years ago but they put buy clauses into most of the young players they sell hence getting Alba at a chep rate but bet you he will be paid a hell of alot more than Allen..just give the lad a chance before judging him...can't wait for the '' I knew he'd come that Hnederson,,never doubted him'' next season....
Rich

We paid 8 million for Borini!

Well said corvin although it was only just over 8 million we payed for borini.
8million for a 21 year old international who has good goalscoring records everywhere he has been so far and knows the way BR likes to play. he also strikes me as having the right attitude in cutting his holidays short. whether or not it works out is another thing but in all fairness i saw exactly why rodgers wanted him.

If Newcastle and Alan Pardue want Andy Carroll so much, why don't they cough up the £20m he is worth? They sell the player over the value and expect to bring him back under value. £20m is a fair asking price!
FSG should not be bullied by a club trying to build success on the cheap, we are not DUNLOP mr Ashley!
Surely Tim Krul needs to be looked at if Reina decides to leave, what do you think ed?

C-MAC

Thats is because he isn't worth £20 million. What has he done to warrant such a price tag. Also Krul won't leave Newcastle for Liverpool.

Newcastle value Carroll at 15million ( bit rich from a club the sold him for 35million). Personally I think thats an insult and would sell him to them.

Well, if he ain't worth 20mill and they won't pay 20 million, guess who Andy C will be playing for next year!

He's going to West Ham anyway.

as much as a few of you on here dont like him. spearing will not be sold. he is part of the long plan for the club. so instead of having a dig at him all the time. get behide him. the club are not going to sign the big names you all think. the problem with a few on here is that you cant handle that this is how it is going to be.

The hazards will take time to settle, as will Oscar, Torres could throw his dummy out the pram at anytime and lets not forget what happens when you drop any of the huge egos at the bridge. Whilst im a little jealous ofthe names being signed they might not be as strong as you would think in the coming season

I'm really excited by the prospect of seeing the youth break through. That's why we invest in them there's no point in working with the youth then paying big money for other teams products.
Jonjo just gets better suso is coming of age sterling is really exciting sama wisdom Kelly Flanagan Morgan may get game time to develop. It's good to see even knowing some wont make it

Disagree. Jay is as good as he will ever be, which is solid at best defensively, with poor passing game and non-offensive game.

I don't mind the player but I wouldn't have thoguht he is part of a long term plan..

If you think jay is as good as he is ever going to be you are wrong. you must of thought lucas was never going to get better. how wrong alot of us were.

Not worried about the result at all. Just remember Chelsea lost as well and they are Champions of Europe. What I'm saying is that considering that was mainly a reserve team there were some serious positives.
Sterling, Pacheco, Shelvey and Morgan show great ability and I think Suso is gonna be a world great.
I'm also loving the passing. Did you see our goal, it was about 15 passes all done perfect before a good finish.
Just looking forward to the future.
GOD

We only just lost after having plenty of the game against a virtually full strength Roma team and that was with mostly our kids with Gerrard, Carroll, Reina, Suarez, Borini, Henderson, Kelly, Bellamy, Johnson and Downing missing.
Chelsea lost to a MLS Allstar team including a 37 year old Beckham and a 34/35 year old Henry where Chelsea were pretty much full strength with senior and first team players such as Terry, Lampard, Cole, Essien, Hazard, Ivanovic, Malouda, Ramirez, Cahill, Luiz, Obi Mikael and others all there.
So I think all the doom mongering by some on here is a bit over the top.

I think we need to buy a LB before the end of the transfer window...If Enrique continues his performance towards the end of last season which has been poor we will be in trouble because the backup player we have right now is still not good enough. To any one of the eds, please answer this. Is there any LB been rumoured to us recently?

Agreed. Enrique began to believe the early good press he was getting. Could never understand it myself - his right peg is only for standing on! BR needs to introduce some serious competition from the young lads - who outta Flanagan, Robinson, Wilson, Kelly and McLauhglin (who was excellent v Roma) can start to push both Enrique and Johnson....?

Like many others, thought Shelvey and Pacheco were stand outs tonight.

Not seeing what others see in Aqualani? What am I missing there?

Stand outs in a bad way- Enrique and Gulacsi. I don't know if either completed a pass all game. Really can't figure out Enrique. Was he always this poor? Bad touch, bad dribbling, really poor passing. I seem to recall him being pretty good at one point so not sure what happened there.

Shelvey and Adam were super everyone should get behide Adam as ADAm gerrard lucas is going to be super watch this space.

Enrique? Are you serious he was a stand out player last year,he had a bad game last night but that's about it. #class

Gulasci stand out in a bad way? He was great actually...worst for me was enrique overall along with aqua who was out of the game ...more impresed with shelvey out of all he was motm for me ..

Agreed, another left back is needed - he was caught ball watching a lot and IMO a move back to Rangers would suit Danny Wilson, they're at his level now LOL.

Positive note; Pacheco looks a different player- let's hope he can carry this confidence into the season and he isn't scared to express himself at Anfield.

Gulasci made some great stops and kept a clean sheet!

I thought Gulacsi had an outstanding game made some terrific saves.
I assume you mean when the ball was being pressed by Roma and passed back to him quickly with no option but too punt it up field.

Kopping a feel

I'm sure Gulasci gave a couple of short passes to the full backs, but then again I suppose I was more interested in seeing how he performed as a keeper and he made some very good saves in the first half.

I actually tought we were a lot better in the second half even though we conceded 2. All in all a lot of positives to be taken from playing against a near full strength Roma XI. I thought Shelvey was excellent after a quiet first 20 minutes. Suso and Pacheco showed a lot of promise. Acquilani looked and played like someone who didn't want to be there. Great to see Lucas back. Scouser Tommy

26 Jul 2012 04:34:09 I would hope that all Liverpool fans
are not only proud of their players results but also proud of our ethics in achieving results. We should not only do the right thing, but be seen to do the right thing.I am not comfortable for us to be trying tosign Joe Allen. Rodgers made an agreementand we should keep to the spirit of that agreement. Sportsmanship is what life is all
about.

{Ed002's Note - The agreement would be between the clubs not with Rodgers.}

Life ain't fair. Is it fair Chelsea and man c have money to chuck away and teams at the bottom have to get players scouted then make them good players then get them taken away? No so stop moaning

None of us would actually know what the agreement was though do we? And for all we know there could be a bid in from another team which would allow us to move in. Just try not to believe everything the media say on the matter.

Eds im just wondering what we can expect from borini because myself and a lot of fellow reds ive spoken to dont know a lot about the guy. Ive seen his goals on the net but they obviously dont show much about his game in general. Just after an intelligent opinion.

Cheers

I'm not going to pretend I've seen him loads either. But here goes:

He's a very clinical finisher. He gets into great positions in the box where the ball always "happens to fall" hence he reads the attacking part of the game well

He makes good runs off the ball both for himself and to drag defenders with him to create space for others

His overally contribution to the game is minimal imo. His passing rate has been poor at Roma where he was deployed on the left of a 4-3-3. But he is only young and it will improve as he is technically sound

He is a very direct player. Don't expect to see so many tricks a la Suarez. If he gets room for a shot, he will take the shot.

He presses really well and forces defenders into numerous mistakes-very important in the Rodgers' system. Great team player.

Hope for a better game against the Spuds.

HK

I thought Pacheco was reasonable, a few good things tempered by some pretty sloppy things.
For me Charlie Adam was the best player on the field by a mile. Honestly made the rest of the team look pretty second rate when he was on

Charlie did have a good game, but mainly because he had Lucas back covering him!

Some of his padding was sublime. His major orob is his mobility so not v good at tracking back. That's why when Lucas got injuredast season both him and stevie were letting runners go from midfield.

I Like him and hope he stays, not a starter in my book but defo what a good squad needs.

Is that what the problem has been ed? has he been lazy before in practice sessions and still been expecting to play? i always wondered why he was going out on loan

He's impressed me in those first two games. His ability has never really been in question, it was always down to his attitude but, like you said, his attitude looks fantastic and I hope he keeps up the progression because he could become a bit of a secret weapon, like a new signing. He's also grown up in the system that we're playing so that suits him aswell, I hope he takes this chance by the horns and finally shows us all what he can do because he could turn out to be a terrific player!

oh now all of a sudden Aquilani has to stay, i've been saying that since BR got the job.

Shelvey take a bow. and who agrees that McLaughlin is better than Flanagan? well attacking wise because he did leave gaps behind him.

but yeah we lost the game as soon as Shelvey and Aquilani left the field.

sterling, pacheco, suso, cole, shelvey and aquilani stood out for me.

enrique and spearing made some awful passes.

and in the second half we didn't press as well as we did in the first we sat off them and allowed them to attack us like we did last season.

being positive though we didn't have gerrard, glen, henderson, borini, carroll, suarez.

and sterling ?WHAT A TOUCH to keep the ball in and very good cross was that borini instead of ecclestone that would have been 1-0 liverpool

I thought Aquilani was terrible, he could not be bothered. Adam was much much better in midfield that Aquilani. Higher workrate and better distribution with the ball.
KiwiRed

Eh, it was Shelvey who brought down Sterling's cross and did well until the kepper brought a good save.

Aquilani wasn't good at all, love to know what this man crush everyone has on the useless overpaid s**t house.

What about Aquilani's ball to Cole? He created our best chance of the game. He naturally doesn't run around loads as a player, not every player does, just look at Alonso. That doesn't mean he had a poor workrate, I thought he did alright. I think people are overly harsh on Aquilani

Red Ollie

Aquilani has 0% desire and is actually quite average. He clearly doesn't want to be there, he couldnt fight his way out of a wet paper bag. I thought Shelvey and Adam were miles ahead of him.
I was also impressed with Pacheco again and McLaughlin looked ok. Cole was ok but looked knackered again. Lucas did ok when he came on, might take him a little time to get back to his best but it was great when he didn't back out of that tackle with Bradley.
Skrtel and Agger were ok, Sama and Galucsi looked nervous, Enrique was a bit sloppy. Sterling did ok just maybe lacked a bit of confidence when running at people. Suso did ok, a few stray passes but it's coming.
Considering Roma were virtually at full strength and we still didn't have Reina, Gerrard, Henderson, Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy, Johnson, Downing, Kelly and Doni I thought we did ok. More positives than negatives.

Chris in tamworth.

The agree to disagree ratio of 9:1 would safely say people agree with me over you on that.

Br needs to do the best he can for lfc, if breaking this agreement upsets his former club, so be it.

"The liverpool way" what are you on about? It's not like br has made the lad hand in a transfer request, its not like we are screwing swansea. Liverpool havent spoken about any players, its fulham and swansea opening up to the media! 15m for the lad is over priced anyhow, as many people said, and even though i rate the lad highly, i also agree with fellow posters on that.

Swansea already got alot of money from us for taking br.

Swansea get a tidy sum, Allen moves up a level in his career, and we get a very good prospect of a player, and i get Allen on my shirt. Everyones a winner.

So it's ok with you if the Liverpool manager lies?

We already have a bad name with transfers stick to agreements and look for some one else, all of br's targets are related to swansea if he wants to manage that type of player he should have stayed away from lfc there are better players out there and if he feels save with players he knows then look at what that did to woy.

Only thing I can say Chris is I don't think we know the whole story yet on this one, so for me I'll reserve judgement for a bit and see what pans out.

RDL

I dont see why swansea and others are grumbling about this. there may well have been an agreement in place, but if, as swansea themselves have attested, other clubs are coming in for a swansea player, why shouldn't liverpool make an approach as well? to my mind, the agreement is in place to stop liverpool coming and raiding the club willy nilly. if many other clubs are trying to sign one particular player though, why shouldnt liverpool throw their name in the hat?

Let's tidy this up a bit, I'm only criticising BR if he has gone back on his word. If his approach for Allen is "permitted" due to some clause kicking in then no problem
If he has gone back on his word then that for me is a major problem

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Any agreement would be between the clubs.}

Yes of course Ed, my apologies, but it would be just as bad to break a promise made by the club in my opinion and I'm sure you would agree

Chris in Tamworth

As I understand it, Tottenham has made inquiries and Swansea has stated that Allen is available which cancels the agreement between BR and Swansea. It now becomes a bidding game for his signature. The question is......Will Swansea hold out for the 15 million to release him?

Ed 002 has made a small but very good point. Rodgers made it clear from the offset that he will be his own man. Maybe the 2 clubs made the agreement, and well, br thought it was silly, like we all do.

At the end of the day chris pal, say spurs, newcastle, anyone....activates the release clause swansea have been going on about, and Allen leaves, why shouldnt we be able to activate it. Not like we are taking all their players.

Benny baller

Yeah Chris mate sorry coz I like you but your wrong.

Kopping a feel

Swansea can't expect us to not make a move when they've come out and stated that lots of premier league clubs are showing an interest in Allen, what are we meant to do? Just sit back and watch him go somewhere else?

Mikehoopersgloves

If memory serves Rodgers has always said he would be interested in certain players "if they became available". The assumption being, if other clubs are looking at him, we'd like to be involved. I don't think there was anything formal agreed between the clubs, more a gentleman's agreement. People also need to consider Swansea are more than happy to sell Allen for 15m. The noises in the media are for the benefit of their fans.

All the people complaining about Allen and Dempsey signing?? Why?? These are the replacements for Spearing and Adam. You Happy now? GL Brendan m8.

26 Jul 2012 01:58:53
Now I see why Rodgers wants Allen , the first little bit of pressure and we give the ball away in midfield WAY too much, even for a pre-season friendly. We need a tempo dictator and Lucas is still very far away from fitness and none of our other first team midfielders e.g Gerrard , Henderson, Adam etc. play that deep. There is spearing but he's just not good enough.

does anyone think pacheco has looked impressive so far this tour?

cheers

Damn right! Hold on to him, better than downing for starters

I always like him but from what we have been told he has had attitude problems and things of that nature. But I can remember when he was younger and would make the bench when he wasn't on loan and I always wanted to see him but rarely got to. If he can really work for it he will be a great player and is still young. Just has to realize that he is at Liverpool so he needs to earn the right to put that shirt on.

offensively but not defensively was at fault for the second goal

Well he is a Striker playing out wide in the 4-3-3 we have used so it will take a little time for him to learn that he will need to track back more often.

very disappointed with liverpool tour of north America! I think its great that we are playing our youngsters but the fans were promised a competitive lfc team with a mix of 1st 11.

If they were planning to do this why not tell the fans who, like me, was hoping tonight to see glimpses of the euro stars.

We have saved for ages for these moments at Fenway Park. If they aren't gonna use the big stars of LFC, then dont give us false hope and use them to advertise the matches.

Nonetheless however a promising start 4 BR! YNWA

Sorry for not being a rumour, but rather a rant. Just a message I wanted put out there!

Thanks

Forget the players who played in the euros
Forget the players who are at the Olympics

Adam, Spearing, Enrique, Agger, Skrtl.....what the problem?

Agree with the fact that i did expect to see borini get a run out, but rodgers did say before hand that the players that joined late might not play against spurs let alone roma.

What u got to understand is as pre friendlies go the game exceeded my expectation. we know what the big players can do but ive seen enough now to say we will be ok, and maybe for once wer using these friendlies the way we were allways supposed to. must say i really enjoyed the game and liverpool wer a tad unlucky. but u will see a better 18 in the final game, im trying to use my punctuation in this so feel free to knock it lol .

This is not a rumour .I think andy corral will stay with Liverpool and all the talk from the owners and manager some has been good and bad I think they are trying to take the pressure of him because of his price tag so when the season starts he will be more relaxed and start knocking in the goals unwanted

Andy Corral is indeed staying with Liverpool, to be partnered upfront with Ken Aguero ;)

Everything else seems Americanised at the moment so why not Andy CORRAL

From tonight's game seen that Jonjo Shelvey is developing into a really good player. Him and aquilani seem to click well. & aquilanis vision is sublime. Question, why try and offload Pacheco? Clearly has pace, some skill, isn't too greedy and in my opinion twice the player of downing! Love the way suso plays, and cannot wait for him to develop further and make
A break into the first team. Defensively I thought we was quite poor tonight, no composure, very sloppy as too was jay spearing but he has the fire in him to win the ball back.

Mo

All i ask u is watch the game again and it will tell u some of whats good about aqua and more about whats bad , he passes a ball he needs a mirror because very seldom does he look for it back

Watched the game and personally although not spectacular, Aqualani alway's seemed to be in space. and you can't by the ability to find space to work in. He needs to be found when he is in so much space.

He's in space because he never moves.

Nonsense, he is a give a go player. Open your eyes...

Sorry wasn't many positives I can take from that friendly...apart from Shelvey.

Obvs missing most our best players but so was Roma.

I couldnt help but feel Carroll wouldve teared both Roma and Toronto apart.

I know its only pre-season but it was extremely painful to watch at times.

Alot of work to do, but a couple top quality signings and we'll be ok.

You're right livlim mate, bit of a knee jerk reaction from myself, I just want to see these youngsters succeed because I know how much potential they have.

There was of course much more positives than just Shelvey looking back on the match.

Cant wait to see Borini, Suarez (hope he stays), gerrard, Lucas and Co

I also think Pacheco, Suso and Sterling deserve off the bench chances in the PL this year.

Very poor form today against roma , bad tactics , can't see any change in style of playing which is nothing , don't know he isn't playing with stevie g , reina , johnson , carroll ,henderson? poor targets , what's next BR? is this the type of manager who we should be hiring to be back to glory? please relate editor {Ed001's Note - I haven't watched it, I recorded it as I was expecting I would fall asleep, turns out I wasn't as sleepy as I thought I was.}

Give the guy a chance only been there 2 minutes and already on his back

Tiki taka gone to the brain ed watch it alot of positives in it first half 2nd lost 2 goals but i still think a few more positives even thow adam proved his usual self slow a few good passes but had a good goal teed up for him

We are accessing our players, this is friendly game so we can give our youngsters a chance, do u think we can take such risk in premier league, so chill and relax and let BR do his job. hope to have a best from his.thank u

Difficult to implement tactics when about 40 players have been on and off the pitch. It's pre-season, its about gaining fitness and match fitness.
Most of his tactics work will be done on the training ground pre-season.

26 Jul 2012 01:34:10
poor performance overall some nice passing moves but more often than not losing it sloppily, also the tempo seemed a bit too high for them, shelvey was man of the match for me also aqualani and cole were good, as well as decent perfoemances from mcloughlin, sterling and morgan, spearing was ok but gave the ball away quiet a bit and enrique was terrible today..........

26 Jul 2012 01:16:08
Home people don't read too much into this match at the moment. It's basically AS Roma V Liverpool reserves.

No, it was Roma reserves vs. Liverpool reserves. A relatively weak Roma last year too if memory serves me.....

26 Jul 2012 01:32:17
Great game and thought we did well against a very strong Roma side. With all our subs and using the youngsters, we held our own and were unlucky to not draw at least. Standouts for me: Adam, Suso, Pacheco, Shelvey, Flano

cozinoz

McLaughlin played better than flanagan, and what about cole and sterling?

And aquilani

Its all down to personal opinion - Cole didn't ring my bell, Sterling seemed a bit low-key today and Aquilani put in his usual 20% work rate. I forgot about McLaughlin though - good performance by the lad

cozinoz

Aquilani was rubbish. 0% desire, no fight at all. Average.

Liv Roma
Roma out of sight late on a bit depressing Roma have a closer version to their 1st team. The one touch of liverpool is not there now hesitant to pass quicky and Roma really flying. Liverpool have had chances early on but not got the finishers. Players like agger and Adam trying to win it single handed.
Sterling has had two goal making opportunities from his one man demolition down the left in 2 games which is good.
Adam makes it 1-2 but you got the impression Roma took their foot off the gas.
10 mins to battle scrappily and clumsily for another Liverpool goal, I don't think the Rodgers style is omniprescent here but Roma are tiring after playing some sublime one touch fluid penetrative stuff when they felt like it.

26 Jul 2012 01:19:49
All you knocking Charlie Adam....hope you were watching tonight. Sprayed some great passes around and a well taken goal. We all know he went off the boil last year but tonight he's reminded us of why we bought him.

cozinoz

Hope you also noticed that both goals came from people running off the back of Adam. There are two sides to a job and Charlie unfortunately only does one of them. i doubt it will go unnoticed.
IndoDave

I was watching and but for the goal and 1 r 2 passes was caught several times in posession or made needless passes trying to redeem himself , on the shop window im afraid just hope someone sees the goal

Come on you obviously hold a grudge against Adam or something. He may have been at fault for that first goal, but on the attacking side i don't think he gave the ball away at all and he showed a range of passing that no-one else in that squad can dream of

Adam is one reason why we are where we are, better players than him required please.

Adam= squad player

Don't make Adam your scapeoat! The boys is lacking confidence and this will not help! Some so-called 'fans' need to take a good look at themselves in the mirror!

We look better on the ball already. Team trying not to hit long balls but some things die hard

26 Jul 2012 00:42:00
Having watched the first half of the Roma match I thought I would offer a summary of the first eleven players performances for those who missed the match.

Peter Gulacsi - An okay display, good shot stopping however his distribution was poor and often went for long balls when there was an easy option near. If I were Rodgers I would give Gulacsi until January to improve his distribution then promote him over Doni and Jones to second keeper because there is definite talent there.

Ryan McLaughlin - As expected from a 17 year old. Flashes of promise in attack however his defensive positioning let him down from time to time. Certain potential however and perhaps in a few years we will see him in the first team.

Jose Enrique - Seemed to me as if he was still getting match fitness as his usual forward bursts were found lacking in gusto. This coupled with a few defensive errors meant it wasnt one of his better performances but once his fitness is there I expect him to fit our new style well.

Martin Skrtel - Our best defender in my opinion, covered when needed, was strong in headers and tackles and his short passing was surprisingly solid.

Jamie Carragher - We once dreamt of a team of Carras but now I believe it is time he stepped into the coaching side of the game. I have felt this way for a while and I have seen others post similar ideas but at the moment he is halting better, younger players progression into the first team.

Jay Spearing - His passing was wayward but as usual his work rate was second to none. He made two mistakes to let in the opposition and against better teams this could prove damaging. I think he is more suited to WBAs or Wigans level (No offence).

Jonjo Shelvey - He for me was the man of the first half. Showed wonderful close control in and around opposition area, put in some solid tackles at the back and very rarely lost possession. All in all a very promising performance.

Alberto Aquilani - He was lacking I believe in effort but when he had the ball he played some lovely through balls and supported the forwards well. If he is to stay he needs to improve his work rate and defensive ability.

Raheem Sterling - For some reason he never reached his usual blistering pace, he seemed to lack a little confidence which will surely come with more game time however when he did take on defenders he did well and his link up with Jose was lovely at times.

Joe Cole - I was actually impressed by Joe. I felt he put effort in and showed some neat little touches when taking on players, his short passing aswell was dependable which is reassuring given our new style under BR. For improvement he perhaps could look to offload the ball a little quicker but that would be my only complaint.

Nathan Eccleston - I am sorry to say but he isnt good enough for this level I dont think, rarely held the ball up, didnt work the channels enough and his passing was wayward. I can see him leaving this summer personally.

So there we have it, hope you found it useful and if you agree or disagree with anything I said then reply below and we can get a proper debate unlike the usual ones sparked by trolls..

Good half by Liverpool. Aquilani, Cole and Shelvey very good. Impressing by McLaughlin to. Enrique looked terrible to me. Gulacsi is our next second keeper

Where and when was Aquilani any good?! He, again, just didn't look like he wanted to be there!
He couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag.

I have to agree, it seems like no matter what Aqualani does people still want to gie him a good wrap. He looked slow and off the pace and a couple of decent passes doesn't change that fact

26 Jul 2012 00:32:10
Just thought id get this off my chest to a group of similar minded reds. I find it an absolute joke that Swansea value Allen at £15 mil. If Liverpool have seriously offered around the £12 mil mark which is being reported then Swansea should rip their hands off. How have we got to the stage in english football that a player who has played one season at the highest level is suddenly worth £15mil. Its a joke and will only get worse, the sooner fair play comes in the better.

I bet we would get m'vila for that price maybe 2-3 mil more and of the two i know which one id rather have !

missestheolddaysred

If some one comes in for skrtel do we say fine take him for 8 mil no we hold out for what we can get for the player or we don,t sell

We should stick to agreements and leave it at that ,respect is what we need to earn again.

26 Jul 2012 00:31:41
Enrique has deffo had to much paella over the summer haha! Shelvey is definatley naturally gifted and joe cole is playing well... spearing... as much as i really want you to be good enough your not mate. enjoying the footy tho :), sterling looked a little out of his depth but hes learning. whats everyone else thinking about first half ?

joe cole and aquilani and shelvey playing well, the youngsters look a little lost with the exception of mclaughlin at right back, defence and spearing and ecclestone look poor

Half time at Fenway park. 0.0. Our mom shelvey by a mile. Cole has also done ok in my opinion. BR needs to give Carra a coaching role. He looks shattered!

26 Jul 2012 00:27:39
Jonjo and Cole have been superb this first half.

Br clearly had a word with Sterling bout passing more, i thought thats what i wanted to, but missing them runs at defenders, even if he lost the ball, its momentary excitment. Oh well, cant have my cake and eat it!

Shoulda had 2 clear pens, hand ball and when cole skinned 2 in the box, hope they pulled their pants back up.

Spearing......*hangs head and sighs*

All in all, good half against a serious roma side...

26 Jul 2012 00:27:29
Shelvey and cole are playing well, the latter hitting the crossbar with a delightful chip

Jay Spearing is awful. He cant pass to save his life. Jonjo is looking sharp to be fair.

26 Jul 2012 00:25:52
Half-Time review:

Gulasci - Made some impressive saves and I think is the perfect number two too Pepe, no need for De Vries

Enrique - Simply not good enough defensively, pace saved him once but would like to see more of Robinson this season!

Carragher - One of my biggest heroes but is lackin the finesse of Agger and composure of Skrtel!

Skrtel - Solid! Don't sell him!

McLaughlin - Love this kid, and Flanno! Definitely give Johnson a run for his money!

Spearing - Love his enthusiasm, hate watching him! He loses the ball in dangerous positions far too often and can't wait to have Lucas back this season!

Shelvey - Grew into game and most threatening midfielder, reminds me of Stevie the way he attacks!

Aquilani - His heart isn't in it, but good player!

Cole - Was impressed by his efforts! Think he will be a good squad player this season! Unlucky with shot against the bar (hope it's not a sign of the bloody crossbar being struck all season again)! Lol

Sterling - Will become a brilliant player under Rogers and can't wait to see him with a bit more experience taking players on!

Ecclestone - Always liked and respected him but would have happened already for him, I realise he is a very different player to Morgan, however Morgan will make it!

Rogers - Good team selection, can't wait to see how the first team plays!

Officials - Let's face it they have had a stinker, plus how funny was it that the lino was shouting pure abuse at Roma fullback! Well cracked me up!

Second Half - 2-0 win with Adam & Morgan on the scoresheet!

26 Jul 2012 00:17:50
Joe Coles had a very good first half, I have no idea why Ecclestone is still at the club though.

i hate to contribute to hype but isn't that player ryan mclaughlan at right back a nice tidy player. he has a good touch and keeps the ball moving. he was caught out of position once or twice but that can be fixed with experience. definitely one for the future.

Great ball control & touch, was very impressed with him [FR]

If I was a senior player worked under Houllier Benitiz KD etc and things start to go badly why would I put my trust /respect in a manager who has not won anything at all ever. If I was a senior player looking to possibly join why would I want to be part of what of what is a optimistic punt by the owners. If I was truly a globaly aware manager why am I scuffling looking for the comfort of signing players I know personally, therefore picking from a very small pool

If I supported Liverpool football club why would I go their page and post negative drivel?

Support br by all means as he is our manager now , but nothing wrong with a bit of advice , some better people than him are passing it on .
i agree he is treading a fine line by going for players he has already worked with.
i hope he does what we all need and be sucessfull . he will get all the support we can give him as he needs it right from the start of the season very big games early on and in a way he is lucky they are home games , come on br and lfc .ynwa

Spearing has given the ball away 4 times already in friendly. Surely he cannot be part of BR's plans? He really cannot pass the ball, even with little to no pressure on him.

anyone watchin shelvey??

26 Jul 2012 00:01:37
One more hoof from Gulacsi and I reckon he'll be sold at half time. That can't be pleasing Rodgers. Can't play Swansalona football if he the keeper can't keep it on the ground!

Down to nerves I think.

(watching roma match)This tika taka football is awesome..
I'm now soooo confident in the season ahead :(.

Get a grip, it's a friendly.

Tika Taka football? ...is the way we played any different to the way we played under Kenny?

You can label the "style" anything you like but if the players you have trying to implement that "style" aren't up to it then you may as well be playing Rugby!

Surely it is apparent (more so by the second half performance) that we need quality, first team level, attacking midfielders, we might have ten midfielders on our books but only three or four are worthy of a first team place, and one of those is a defensive midfielder - for heavens sake FSG avert your focus from off field ongoings and look to what is required on the field.

I truly hope Rodgers went to the Dynamo school of magic, or either the Jesus Christ school of miracles cause that is what we need - very average squad (Raheem Sterling void of any criticism)

New manager same story.

25 Jul 2012 23:55:50
I know it's a pre season friendly but Jay spearing once again out of his depth. If we are to sign Allen hopefully he could be included in the deal! Enrique far from convincing as with second half of last season. Think a new left back is a must! All Roma after opening 15 mins! Sterling looks a great prospect though!

Why oh why us spearing still at the club. He is so crap its not funny anymore. Get rid.

Playing spritely stuff Roma strong but laconic, spearing a bit sloppy but it's early on, sterling gets a run at left wing again, good to see.

Charlie adam has walked all over aqualani. No question which one id keep

Only a friendly, but J. Spearing giving the ball away every time. He really needs to be sold. Sorry Jay, I do love you.

I find it interesting that Borini is not match fit to play, yet De Rossi is? Who is more likely to be tired? Not a complaint, just saying I would have like to see the lad against his old team, Aqua's too!

Think your confused with the rb rosi mate
Ruben

Didnt see de rossi out there it was rossi a completely different player

It's not to do with tiredness. He's not trained much with the first squad so Rodgers is being fair and giving the game to the youngsters who have trained for ages.

BthekingB

De Rossi wasn't playing, that was a right back called Rosi

Did you see de rossi anywhere?

De Rossi wasn't there as he's still on holiday!

De Rossi wasn't even there! Rosi was.

Looks like Aquilani don't want to break any nail polish again

TC YNWA

Not good enough

You guys expect too much from him, he clearly is an attacking play maker and yet you want him to perform like Nigel De Jong. He always presses when the play comes into his zone ALWAYS. and his passing and link up play with shelvey was very good.

look at him when he played for Juve or Milan he never played aggressive it's not his game but if he has to put pressure on a player he does it without being told to.

not once did i see a Liverpool player direct any kind of disappointment or anger towards Aquilani for lack of effort or otherwise up i.e giving away possession, stupid long balls or being out of position not once.

you lot must have been watching a different game or you allow others to think for you.

1) I do think if all media stuff true about Carroll being pushed out that it is a little unfair on him in terms of the price we paid for him. I feel sorry for him really. He came to us and i do not think he was glory hunting but actually believe he was told by Newcastle, the team he supports and loves that he was not needed for the money being offered to them. The offer was only made as we had just lost Torres and were really up s**t creek without a paddle. Then he plays for us and doesn't have a great season until nearer the end, and gets booed by Newcastle fans (which i have to say i thought was really harsh of them!).
Anyhow, good enough or not i wish him all the best whatever happens

2) If true that we have offered Shelvey on season loan plus £10 million (which i doubt is true), i have to say this would be the first time i would question Rodgers at all.
Personally i rate Allen but also think Shelvey now deserves to be playing regular football for us and i for one hope he stays and gets some good play time. He is quality as far as i am concerned

3) I know people will not agree but also i think Downing will not and should not go. I believe with new system and with a little more confidence he will shine. He did have a bad season but also i must say i think he is a good/very good player but needs some play time and to grow with the team. He has still got great pace but for me he just looked more worried about not making mistakes last season and thus played very conservative than he did go for it and screwing up...which again i think is a confidence issue. He was also tentative in tackles and looked like he never believed he could beat his man.
Anyhow, i think he will shine this year if he stays

That was my post! didnt sign for it...lol
maybe a good thing

gareth

Therefor we got a broken player for 35m.

i really think the only reason we got carroll and henderson was because we were paranoid about loosing out on English talent and seeing them go to rivals i.e. Jones to united.

I have just watched LFC Now and can see the embaressment on the LFC players faces when the likes of Tom Werner and the guy from Chevrolet are reading out their pre written scripts and the LFC players being photograhed in front of a car that is the equivalent of a Skoda or Lada and I get really frustrated that this is what football has come to be, what has happened to the beutiful game we all use to love? {Ed001's Note - I remember when all players could only aspire to a sponsored car, of any type. I have pics of myself and Bruce Grobelaar next to his sponsored car and it was nothing special. Might do the players good to get out of their Ferraris and Bentleys and into a less flashy motor.}

I think if your more interested in cars then the beautiful game your referring to is formula 1......who cares?! Somebody else said man u have Audi as their company car and we have Chevy do you honestly think that makes a difference to anything?

The reason Allen is touted ahead of Britton is because he is 21 and Britton is 29 whereas Britton WAS THE BEST last season in EUROPE

Hey fellow reds.

Can I appeal for a bit of optimism here. Yes we don't seem to be buying Messi, Ronaldo or Iniesta but the targets we aware BR has are not of poor standard. I will admitt last season I hung my head in my hands when we signed Downing and Adam but Borini (21, goal-scorer in notoriously defensive Seria A) and Allen (if he signs, 22, best passer in prem) have me genuinally excited!
However whatever quality of player we get the relentless abuse of eds, fellow posters and the team on here is not needed. As well as the negativity. I believe FSG learned the hard way last year not to show you have money as they got held to ransom by Short, Oyston and Lerner for Players and agents for wages. So well done to them for keeping us all in the dark. It shows business is being done properly.
So let's leave the "oh we're not signing someone famous enough" for the Man City 'fans' and support this very talented young British manager as he puts his fresh ideas into our club. We have the best fans in the world I truly believe and BR needs us to show that next season. Nobody can inspire a team like us on full voice so let's give the guy all we can!

And to all of who say stuff like "oh the owners hate us, if only we had re-hired rafa we would have signed Messi by now, look sOmeone has bought a guy we were not interested in that must mean we can't attract players".. Just chin up and judge in January eh? It's not like it benefits FSG for us to be relegated right? And I am sure they know more about running a sports team than you or me!

Time for GERARD to leave and get 10
million.

Thanks for the memories son but
we need to build the team around
Henderson and Spearing- they will
come good and will boss the midfields
across the world.

They will be thought of as Liverpool's
Xavi & Iniesta......

Gerard is past it now.

Ken

Wat an absolute muppet.
gaz b

If you were a Liverpool fan you would know how to spell his name. You should be more worried that your manager still has faith in Anderson lol

cozinoz

Disagree on about 5 different things in this post - can you chalk me up for 5 disagrees please Ed?

Joe

I'll have a pint of whatever this, er, contributor is drinking..... Otherworldly comments might then spew uncontrollably from my mouth and match this suggestion.
ND

Personic post..I think you'd build the team around Carra, Spearing and Ecclestone if you were Liverpool manager...LOL

Red PG

In fact, don't worry Ed I'll just list them.

1. It's Gerrard, not Gerard
2. We won't get £10 million for him
3. We don't need to build our midfield around Henderson and Spearing
4a. Henderson and Spearing wont boss midfields around the world
4b. Henderson and Spearing won't be known as Liverpool's Xavi and Iniesta
5. Gerrard isn't past it

Note: I really rate Henderson, very good footballer with a big future. But unless Spearing improves dramatically he'll be nothing more than a back up player

Joe

Nonsense my friend. Gerrard may not have many years at top of game but he is still priceless to us, and while i also think spearing will come good building a team around hendo and spearing would leave us mid table at best!

eds how come the more senior players are not in squad tonight. is it because of lack of fitness? i was looking forward to watching borini and all .

I cant help but think if N'gog and Babel would fit perfect into BR's system even if it was a rotation role for both. it was a big mistake in letting them both go especially when Babel can play anywhere up the front line. but liek always we seem to ignore the positions we need and buy an abundance of center mids.

Mike B

I think Bebe will be awesome for you lot this year

Shockingly we can now add NGOG onto the list that people want brought back to the club!!
Why can't some people just let go and move forward?!
I wouldn't mind as much but NGOG?! He can't even get in the Bolton team!

25 Jul 2012 22:34:50
Dear Swansea,
You could always just turn down our bids rather than go off on one he's your player after all.

25 Jul 2012 22:30:25
I wouldn't mind us signing Allan and Sinclair from Swansea.

Unlike many people I'd be happy with Borini, Dempsey, Allan and Sinclair. If we could stick a right winger in that list along with another striker I think we would have enough depth to challenge for a top 5 finish

Rob

My opinion on the team for tonight:
Gulacsi
Kelly Wisdom Wilson Enrique
Spearing
Suso Aquilani
Pacheco Sterling
Borini

25 Jul 2012 22:29:52
If true about Shelvey going out on loan, i have to say i think this is a shame. I respect Rodgers completely but this would be the first thing i have heard that i personally think is a bad idea.

However, maybe it is seen as the only way to get Allen now that there seems to be some trouble in the balance about approaching Swansea for players

Gareth

Shelvey going nowhere. Surely. Loved watching his movement and style tonight - he has all the makings of a top quality midfielder.

Isn't it ironic of Pardew talking about taking a loss? Isnt he one of the north easts biggest casino losers? I wonder why he's on such a crap salary compared to other managers??
Be quiet Alan you fool.

What part of this can't some of you understand?
"I'm confident Luis is really looking forward to playing for us this season and is really looking forward to this way of football," enthused the former Swansea boss. "I have spoken to him and had nothing but positivity from him.
"He is obviously at the Olympics and I wish him well, but I will wish him better when he comes back.
"Unfortunately there is always that rumour, speculation and gossip and until the window closes that will continue. I'm just looking forward to getting every player back. It is important to get the whole group here and get some new signings here."

January 24th, 2011
When asked about the transfer of Babel, which could have an impact on the Reds signing Uruguayan star Suarez, the Scot was typically canny and blunt in his response.

"He's staying here," he said.

January 25th, 2011
Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have sealed the signature of Ryan Babel in what is believed to be a £6 million switch from Liverpool.

Notice that if Suarez were to leave, nothing BR has said in your statement above would be incorrect, either.

Not saying he is leaving or staying, but to take fairly benign statements like that from BR and assume they mean much of anything is pretty silly.

25 Jul 2012 22:24:12
Spearing is better than Allen. So is shelvey. When will we stop buying average players for ridiculous amounts of money. Absolute laughing stock.

Spearing is better than Allen.....GET TA BED LAD...

Don't agree with your comment, but at least you signed your post. Thanks for that "absolute laughing stock".

Hi guys. Allen the next to sign (where there is smoke there is fire!). In 2 years we have Hendo/Allen/Lucas across the middle. Potential to be best in the PL. Yes, only potential, but a real possibility. The names just aren't 'big enough' right now for people to get excited. But these three lads have a chance to stabilize the club for the future (assuming Allen signs....)

Not a Liverpool rumour. Just a jealous observation. Chelsea have signed Torres, Meireles, Ramires, Mata, Marin, Oscar, Hazard, Cahill (and that brazilian defender who I forget his name) in last two years. I don't, and never will support them, just jealous that we don't have that kind of cash. Not that buying stars wins the league for you, but any Liverpool fan who thinks we have a prayer of competing with Chelsea for the next 5 years is very optimistic.

They also have a billionaire in charge who god forbid ever decides he has had enough of chelsea because if he walks he will could them for years after!
I would guess he has a short fuse considering how many people he has sacked and treated badly.

Personally i am glad we dont have an endless bucket of cash as i would never be convinced as a supporter to our great historic team that without the cash we could still muster trophies.
I like the fact we are going to have to work very hard to win trophies and when we do it will feel a hundred time greater knowing how hard LFC worked to get it and over come the odds

gareth

Beat them easily last year. If you're gonna be jealous its gotta be Barca. Chelsea are boring as hell

I would like Joe Cole to say.

Who's staying up to watch the game on ESPN tonight?

I don't get. Do you think he'd get a different answer than if you asked it yourself?

Hi eds
Just wandering on reading the tour website about the players and read aquilani and it says under Rodgers he wants to use ore season to show Rodgers he wants to play for us. Is this true last I hearded he hates everything about us {Ed001's Note - he has always said the right things in public, it makes little sense to slag off the club publicly when no one else wants you.}

25 Jul 2012 21:40:20
hi eds just wondering what some of these so called fans are on, when H and G were in charge and we were selling the club how many billionairs did you see beating the doors down to rescue us so when you have a go at the owners remember they saved this club, and then theres why dont we sign top players like messi ronaldo etc get a grip and look where we are these days a player either wants C/L football or huge amounts everyweek yes we could give every player about 250 grand a week but the club wouldnt survive, so give the manager, owners and new players a break remember they dont put a valuation on their head

25 Jul 2012 21:31:16
Not long to the start of the prem now, and LFC have an exciting new face in Borini. I am concerned with the lack of transfer movement as it looks like both the Allen deal and the Dempsey one are "up in the air". Can the eds speculate as to what is the blueprint for transfers this season; are we looking to sell to buy , or are we working on brinign in a set amount of new players?

Many thanks,

The Wise Rigglet {Ed001's Note - it is not sell to buy, there are players who are surplus though.}
