Huntelaar for free? Dream on.

Why do people consistently value Joe Cole at more than 50k?

Pity LFC could'nt poach Hernandez from Manc's.He's hardly used and alway's does a job. Not only is he young and quality, imagine how p ssed off it would make them. Especially Taggart! Still never happen i suppose, remember how nuts Taggart went over our Hienze approach? Shame though, lad's wasted there

Little Pea is to good for Liverpool

Why do some people think that the Champions League is the most important thing when considering who to join? Especially when you consider that Tottenham signed one of the best keepers in the world in Hugo Lloris with no CL football, as did we when we signed Suarez. Seriously if we it were up to some of you then we would never have signed Suarez, or brought Sahin in on loan (who turned Arsenal down, who could offer CL football) they were unrealistic targets without CL to offer them.

The most important aspect of any club is ambition, and how much it has. Ofcourse finance plays an important role, but could you honestly see the likes of Messi playing in League 2 for 500k a week? 9/10 players want to be at a club that can match their ambitions first and offer good money second.

And I don't know if any of you know, but this club happens to be one of the biggest institutions in world football, which has won tonnes of silverware, already has world class talent in the squad, a fantastic fan base, an iconic ground, great training facilities and a wonderful academy, and has been consistently been in the top 8 of the best league in the world for over 40 years. And we can't attract top players..........Why?

Keeping the faith,

MikeyRed92

By fantastic fan base do you mean a large range of fans because I really have had enough of the constant fickleness of our fans [on these pages].

Hi eds, thanks for all the great work!
Not MOTD fever but this Willian guy for Shaktar looks a real talent..
Although he's not got great stamina from what i've seen, he would be a great addition!
Would he be open to a move to England and when and how much would he be?

Sorry for going on but also Shaktar have Douglas Costa and Alex Texiera? Any chance of them? Any shown interest from Liverpool?
Thanks again mate! Doing a great job!

Willam came out and said he'd LOVE to play for Chelsea or Spurs.

23 Oct 2012 22:29:22
After watching Hooper tonight,if thats his normal standard-I hope Hooper stay's in the'Hoop's'.2nd choice Commons looks better than him!

23 Oct 2012 21:55:20
The only player to arrive in Jan will be Sean Long from west Brom for 15 million. Over priced but a good player. Will he be able to play in one of the wide 2 forward positions is another question?

Thanks for the info Brendan....absolute tw*t

I like long and would like to see him at pool but the fact that we werent willing to pay the extra million or so for dempsey because it wasnt value for money makes me think this unlikely

I think Stoke City would beat us to the signing of Sean Long, it is suited more to his game.

BthekingB

No to doyle, and im irish... Wa signed robbie keane and he was not good enough, doyle is worse.

Who's Sean Long?

Hi eds
Just watching the champs league and I feel a lump in my throat that the mighty reds are not there.
My question is not really liverpool related but if I post this on the man u site then the no brainers take it the wrong way.

Of all top teams in europe I think man u by far play the most boring and predictable football. They score 90% of their goals by crossing the ball. I remember many years ago playing cutting through balls and passing football.

Its just an observation..feel free to comment.

Livpool

Not gonna get into chat about man united mate sounds a bit desperate putting them down when we are hoping to be where they are presently, better just concentrating on where we are going.

Andy The Red

They are not doing too badly for being "the most predictable" team are they? While I dont think this is the greatest United team of all time, they are a great argument for stability with monir tweeks each year. Their dominance of the EPL and generally strong perfromances in Europe support this also. I really dont like them at all but you have to respect them.

Andy K

For some reason whenever I think of us in the champions league, I think of Dirk Kuyt, Don't know why!? haha

The thing about utd's football is that even though it may be boring, it sure is effective that is one thing you have to credit fergie with. Once he leaves they will not have that anymore and will definitely not be as strong

And he found the net a damn sight more often than the current crew. Who's our strikers' coach at the moment? Should be Robbie!

23 Oct 2012 21:15:03
If we do sign a striker in January, do you see him playing alongside Suarez or out wide? We have a good young striker in Borini and he never got the chance to play alongside Suarez through the middle (before his injury).

I'm fine with playing Suarez up top on his own, but if we're chasing the game, then in my opinion Suarez should be playing a touch deeper off a main striker.

So given that Suarez is the main man, then who can you sign who's good enough but happy to mainly play second fiddle?

Raoul

Do not understand why you would say Borini is a good striker. He is willing but hardly lethal.

We need someone who can;

- Score goals
- Hold the ball up
- Get on end of crosses

Suarez should play on the left with Sterling on the right.

Borini is at a new club being played out of position, i think he;ll work out

He makes very good intelligent runs and creates space for players like suarez. IMO he will be an important player for us,
NZL_red

He coudnt score already 5 open oportunities, 4 u lot he is a good striker, sorry mate we wont qualified not even in 20 years 4 cuampions keague, good striker is jovetic, jacksom martinez, falcao, finisher finisher finisher, thats wot we need, we dont have time 2 give a botal 2 babys, and the last 1 benitez had him in his pocket 4 3millions only, only not 2 be backed by hicklett

Pierre Aubameyang at CF...!! Pace, Finish, Movement. should cost £8-10m

and Ogbonna for CB to replace carragher and give real competition to skrtel and agger. he would cost £9-11m

and a winger would do to replace downing and cole as both will be sold in January. Quaresma would do it for me...Cheap, has the skill and threat to create chances. would be a good game changer to have in the artillery. would cost £2.5-3.5m

thats a highest total of aprox £24.5m

take away downing £7m and cole £1.5m = £16m net spent

Just felt that i should let u all know that this site is addictive and u guys r doing a great job..keep it up.

Sorry for the rant hope you publish this ED and would appreciate your input.

TC YNWA {Ed052's Note - I'm sorry mate I think it is a bit too much of a contentious issue and should be kept away from as the topic can easily cause offence}

Must be discussing the sex life of a ball of fluff again...

Cuchulainn's Hounds

No problem ed offence not intended

TC YNWA {Ed052's Note - Of course mate, I know that you weren't at all. But you know what some people will reply with so its best just to ignore the topic unfortunately, although it is a topic which needs dicussing, but not on here}

23 Oct 2012 18:10:48
I belive rodgers ha what it takes to get us back on track givin the time and backing..... its the backing that i worry about...
1.. The fans a few more losses and the media will jump on board and whip up a storm.

2.. The financial backing.. january told a tale that after the KK and Comolli tansfer disaster that the cheque book is hidden which i think is unfair its not like they blew the average spend after sales is about 20-25m a year since they came but when you think of the Warrior deal (25m yearly) the fox series the new cheve deal and ders more plus the slashing on wages... Surley theres enough in the coffers to properly back BR.

Nevman

Theres also the costs involved in the Stadium redevelopment & the regeneration of Anfield. Money needs to be set aside to cover that.

TFG

Should be money for a striker atleast i think he means makes sense were not talking 40 million here for me lorente came available at 15 mil thats not stopping a stadium build

23 Oct 2012 18:18:51
Hi Eds first time poster i am just wondering with all the speculation going around at the minute that if ' a paper' states that liverpool fc are interested in 'a certain player' from another club then their must be some substance to this being true otherwise the club could sue the paper for lies...what way does it work?

Please post this up thanks

Pauly D {Ed052's Note - There would be no point in the club trying to sue a paper, it would just be embarrassing. It happens to every club and is not a problem}

Even if you 'won', it wouldn't achieve anything - if it's not true, we can hardly claim to have suffered from it.

JammyRed

23 Oct 2012 17:53:37
Hemed scores again for Mallorca lastnight... i think he will be our new Torres...face it guys ..yes he left on sour note but when he was with us he was unstoppable!

Hemed rumours are true and he will be coming.

Also expect one of either of the psv pair Lens or Mertens

Matthew St

23 Oct 2012 17:51:02
Hi Eds, with our need for a forward being very apparent, do you think the club will purchase someone as soon as the january window opens or will it be a case of last minute signing on deadline day whilst trying to haggle down the price. Also eds i know ur not mistic meg,but an educated guess as to what to expect for the club, in terms of the future direction. ie transfer funds, type of player we shall be targeting and liverpool perhaps in 5 years time? {Ed052's Note - The club will obviously try to sign a striker they have identified as soon as the can when the window opens}

Last minute-haggle and lose out seems to be the norm

Who have they identified?
thanks {Ed052's Note - Well, we have mentioned the strikers that we know that we may have some interest in repeated times. Hooper and Ba are up there with a chance. Young Watt is also a possibility although if he were to sign he would be no means be a starter. Other players continue to be linked, such as Hemed and others, and other players have been watched, e.g. Merkel}

23 Oct 2012 17:48:07
The Hunter will take 9 when he comes.

Hope he dosnt come.

I rather bring back carrol

Why ? His scoring record is quite impressive i would be intreged to see who you thought was a better viable option right now ??

Kevin Gamiero, Adrian Lopez, Fernando Llorente... How easy do you think it will be to get a top striker in January? I've said we desperately need a striker in, but I'd be more intrigued to see if anyone arrives at all though.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

23 Oct 2012 17:39:43
Eds do you think if (when) BR bolsters the squad he will allow some of the youngsters out on loan?

I wouldn't mind seeing Yesil, Morgan, Ngoo get some game time, even in the lower league.

Stanz {Ed052's Note - I think they will have established themselves in the squad soon so wont need to go out on loan}

I feel players like flannagon, Morgan, sama and Coady should be put out on loan for a while. Otherwise they'll be playing in the u21 for a while long IMO. They don't match the qualities of suso, sterling and wisdom. Players like yesil ngoo and adjorian should get there chances.

I'd that they go out on loan to another country in they were to go out on loan.

the english loan system really doesn't work......going to rochdale won't do anything but prepare them for mediocrity.

23 Oct 2012 16:54:28
Personally, I think we should forget about this signing young strikers idea. At least until we actually find a goalscorer. We have to think of the present. Someone like Rickie Lambert, who has been doubted year after year. Every year he provides, just because he's knocking on 30 doesn't mean he can't score goals. He's scoring for Southampton, with poor service, in a poor team, that have just been promoted. I'm not saying Lambert's the man. But I think Rodgers could maybe look to sign someone who scores goals in the Championship like Charlie Austin, or someone who is maybe getting on but still knows where the net is.
We have to think about the present. Once we've signed a goalscorer. Then we can look at signing a young striker. We just have to think out side of the box for one season, and gamble on someone like:
Charlie Austin
Craig Mackail-Smith
Rickie Lambert. Just a born goalscorer.

...is your name Rickie Lambert by any chance?

Jordan rhodes has dried up in championship we need a quality forward llorente ,

23 Oct 2012 16:53:30
we are speculating who will be bought in januari,i think our league position in jan will make a difference.
if we are close to the top 4 spot not only the striker we need will be more interested,the owners might just spend knowing we have a chance to get into the cl.

eds?

23 Oct 2012 15:52:58
everyone get worryed on who we will buy in jan. i think we we need to worry more about whats going on now. br is a waste of space. he dont have a clue what he is at. i give him till this weekend and if he loses that i think the fans will get on his back and then it will be a matter of time. the bloke is a joke you only have to watch being liverpool

Diddums. Not looking forward to your veg for tea?

Mighty reds

I really wish people like you would just go away, BR and Liverpool are rebuilding which takes time, not quarter of a season, please do true fans a favour and just go away.

MR EM

23 Oct 2012 17:05:41
i like br, he seems to have a distinct style which is attractive and can be affective.. the only bad thing with this is getting in the right players who will fit this. I think the midfield is the most important part of his theory (as in every team) but im not sure if gerrard is best suited to this.

Not sure why media and some fans are so negetive towards him, i understand from past seasons media will knit pick.. but surely the more logical fans can see what we are working towards, 2 or so transfer windows to let br get his chosen team together and we will be so much stronger.

Im just glad he has the balls to get carroll on the outter, not saying he is a bad player. just not what he wants so full credit to him, even if it looks like a strange decision given our striker situation. i hope we keep sahin and get in a strong striker, attacking mid and keep giving the youth a go.

Its funny how well the youth have done so far this season, but in saying that if they didnt do so well, i cant imagine how bad we would be right now. Imagine if we had to play full teams in europa and fa if they didnt stand up, it would ruin our premiership season hands down. So i think our youth developers deserve as much credit as anyone so far.

"21 Oct 2012 14:37:51

Just a thought but i have watched Gundogan of borussia dortmund for a while now, do you reckon we could have a chance of signing him? { Ed002's Note - If that is you Brendan, then yes. If not, then it seems rather less likely.}"

So basically ed, what you saying is that, if we have interest in the bloke, then there's a chance he could come? Interesting.
So you don't think Campions League would be an issue?

Ed, I'd like you to address these two issues:

(1) Champions League football
Exactly how much weight do players put into this? Nowadays we hear CL being spoken off as the sole and only criterion. "No CL= little to zero chance of signing top players".

Is this an absolute reality true for all players or just a media/commentator/fans' construct only partially correct?
Suarez, Vertonghen, Lloris, Falcao are all "class" players who moved from CL to non-CL clubs. What can you comment on departure?
There are many such cases, and what they suggest is that, CL isn't the main, if at all an important, consideration.
Would be interested to hear your views here.

(2) As regards Gundogan, is it possible that we could look at him summer, to replace Sahin? I doubt he'd be too expensive as Dortmund themselves bought him for peanuts (under 4m euros I think). And as you've said yourself ed, there would be a chance. So is it possible, GundoganSahin?
Cheers mate.

Mr Kumar

23 Oct 2012 15:00:06
Hi eds, there seems to be a lot of talk about Gary hooper I was just wondering how good is this guy? He plays for Celtic in one of the weakest leagues worldwide, so my question to you as I don't know anything about him, do you think he has the quality to shine in the prem? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea how "good" he is as we don't know how he will do. Dalglish came from Celtic - how did he do? Then again Chelsea bought Shevchenko and that went nowhere. It is tough to tell and perhaps we have to rely on those folks who do it for a living - the scouts, advisors and coaches.}

23 Oct 2012 14:58:42
Makes u laugh when u keep reading various reports that Liverpool are in turmoil and Rodgers was not the right choice etc etc we are currently on 9pts from a possible 24pts and yea its not good enough but we are only 3pts behind Arsenal who were considered title contenders beginning of the season yet no one slates them and we are only 6pts from 4th spot which is currently occupied by Everton who we play on Sunday and if we can beat them than it closes it to 3pts - 5pts from 4th spot so all is not doom and gloom folks if we can get 12pts from our next 6 games and than we can go into December hoping to collect 6 wins from 6 against Southampton, West Ham, Aston Villa, Fulham, Stoke & Qpr than it outs us up there challenging for 4th spot.

BigD {Ed002's Note - I am not entirely sure that the rationale based on we are only doing a little worse than Arsenal who are themselves doing badly will fly.}

Im stil convinced we will finish in the top 6 forget the top 3 cause that will be Cty, Chelsea & Utd, which leaves Liverpool, Arsenal & Spurs fighting for 4th spot i think Newcastle and Everton will slowly drop off the pace come Xmas.

BigD

Newcastle have 2 goalscorers.

23 Oct 2012 14:54:22
i hate that its so obvious we are going to buy a striker in january that every dodgey rag has us linked to every tom, dick and huntelaar..

i have a feeling rodgers will get in a left field singing..

good for us from the betting side on who we will sign. We really need someone clinical though.. suarez against reading was pretty frustrating, i believe he had 9 shots all day. magic player but would rather see him on a wing or coming in behind higuian or a van persie type finisher.

thanks for your on going work eds. u might not answer but if we had an endless check book, who would u want to see come in..( messi excluded.)

aussiepool tristan {Ed002's Note - I am afraid I have no interest in fantasy football Tristan.}

Fair call 002. not sure why u are afraid though ha, thanks mate

Yea a striker out've left field who doesnt play in that position so doesnt score like Borini

I think "left field" means an "out of the blue"/ unknown type player, that score's a good few goals in their league?

23 Oct 2012 14:45:26
Eds is J.Cole fit ? {Ed002's Note - Not injured but lacking match fitness.}

Hasn't been match fit since we signed him cause he's constantly injured! {Ed002's Note - Actually he played a full season in France on loan.}

Apart from his season in France, when has he been fit in the last 5 years????

Waste of money, space & supposed talent. {Ed002's Note - His knees were troble when he left Chelsea. A pity because he was a good player and a nice kid.}

Fit But Over the hill!

Lyndon

Well fit, I'd give him 9/10 ;-)

23 Oct 2012 13:04:35
Hi eds! Just 2 comment on previous poster who said he is fed up with people who ask about cavani and falco and players who are clearly out of are range i completly agree but players such as hooper dont get me wrong i have not seen a great deal of him and yes he seems a good player but have we really settled for just good now! I think that we still need 2 believe that we can get back 2 glory days but if the fans stop believing then that will filter back 2 our players and that is not good it becomes a knock on affect!do any of the eds think given how our transfer window ended that maybe the owners will give brendan the money 2 buy a couple of very good players and no i dont mean neymar or messi lol ?? {Ed002's Note - I cannot answer questions about the owners giving money to buy "two very good players" because they feel pity for Rodgers. This is a business being run here.}

23 Oct 2012 14:04:30
Ed2 is spot on Rodgers job is to do best with resources he has got and he knew when he was appointed at the same time when our owners appointed him the reason behind was he did fantastic job for Swansea with limited resources.things haven't gone our way but if Rodgers doesn't manage to find results or what our owners expected then he will be sacked as ed2 says its bussiness

23 Oct 2012 14:35:33
Ed2 mate do you think Rodgers getting 2-3 years if results don't improve or you think there is no transition like 2-3 in modern footy coz if you see in recent years there are no manager who have survived if results haven't come. {Ed002's Note - Nobody enters in to a deal as manager or coach blindly. The owners or their representatives will clearly spell out expectations, financial aspects, reporting structure and hierarchy. A coach might wish for full control over first team aspects of the club and transfers. If things don't go well an overseer might arrive. I would not wish to try and put a timescale on what happens, but the English game will fall in line with the game in much of the world with managers having less direct control over all aspects of the game. I would doubt we will be seeing Managers stay in position as long as Ferguson or Wenger again.}

'Rodgers is doing what he can with his resources'.. 'Cavani and falco out of our range', 'hooper not a name enough'!!.. What I'm a reading?
Ok Let's start and reply if I'm wrong..
1) current squad is a team of internationals
Who have been picked as the best of their countries. Henderson is a under 21s captain which suggests he has talent according to the F.A. Carroll ( another international) was sent out on loan with replacement ( tut tut there and responsibility falls with Rodgers). The team is young. The team won a trophy and another final ( which shows a degree of talent).
2) cavani & falco.. Well we our Liverpool Football club and considering we have a massive fan base we should be able to afford these players.
3) hooper not big enough..well who was Fowler, Owen, Houghton, Moby, Rush, Barnes, Aldridge, Hansen, Dalglish ( I could go on and on and on), before Liverpool?

Swig {Ed002's Note - What has the fan base got to do with being able to afford players?}

23 Oct 2012 14:57:45
Ed2 so there is no transition coz of lots of pressure coming from different challenges anyways thanks mate as always {Ed002's Note - I think this concept of transition is nonsense to be honest. Players might take a little while to get integrated but in general they need to hit the ground running (Kagawa, Oscar, Hazard, Sahin ....).}

I think Ferguson and Wenger are exceptions to the rule (Moyes slowly entering that category as well) in terms of time at 1 club.
In the modern game stability is the buzz word but no one really follows it through.
With the benefit of hindsight, Benitez gave us good stability and had a longish reign in the current climate (around 6 years), you could even argue he should have been given another season to turn it around because the heights he got us to compared to where we are now are frightening.
I am not naive enough to expect Rodgers to be here in 10 or 15 years time however I do hope he is here for a similar length of time to Benitez.
I hope we are given the chance of 'stability' as the last 30 months or so have been border line embarrasing in terms of managerial sackings and appointments.
Hopefully in 5 or 6 years time we are comfortably back in the top 4 with a strong, young squad who have played together for a number of seasons and if we part company with BR, it will be best for both parties and he will be remembered as a great manager for our cub.

Jay

I agree Ed. I don't think we will see the very long managerial reign again but the difference with BR is that he is actually FSG's choice this time. Roy was appointed by the previous regime and KK was only ever a stop gap despite the extended contract. FSG have chosen BR as their man and in all probability therefore will give him time.

Ultimately it will depend on how progress is perceived and BR and FSG will presumably have agreed a strategy with specific targets and as long as progress is made against that I think they will give him time.

Barrym

Nothing as chelsea prove without the sugardaddy u would be knowwere with your smallfan base . When did u start following chelsea 2004? {Ed002's Note - Another embarrassing post. It is interesting how any half-decent posts eventually get spoiled by intellectualy stunted trolls. But what the heck.}

Yeap like Vine, Phillips, Mellor, Madness lol

23 Oct 2012 17:03:23
There is nothing to do with chelsea. Liverpool have spent more money then Arsenal,spurs and Newcastle and still finish below these clubs.I think there are more deep problems then money. At the same time FSG are trying their best to move our club foward eg expanding stadium.bringing sponsors etc etc

Big fanbase means bigger money from jersey sales merchandice sales sponers etc etc.. bigger fan base bigger revenue... simple business!!!1
could fsg possibly squeeze more adverising money out of us....

23 Oct 2012 13:00:46
Ed's, i know there isnt "interest" from us yet, but IF we were to be interested in him, would Lorenzo Insigne be a good buy and what would his price be. I assume he would be about 18-23M considering potential and age... {Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly answer such questions.}

23 Oct 2012 12:00:35
liverpool team after jan: 433

Brad Jones
Andre Wisdom
Martin Skrtel
Daniel Agger
Glen Johnson
Joe Allen
Holty (schlake)
Steven Gerrard
Daniel Sturridge
Jan Huntelaar
Luis Suarez

Bench
Jason Steele
Suso
Nuri sahin
Jonjo Shelvey
Sterling
Borini

Selling Lucas as well as Reina are we?

Huntelaar, Holtby AND Sturridge?

Can I have some of what you're smoking please?

JFT 96

JP

No Lucas then?

Red Raw

No chance.

Gary Hooper will be the only signing in January.

So sell Lucas, Reina and Enrique and have no defenders on the bench? As well as signing two strikers who are awful at pass and move?
Huntelaar was awful in Hollands passing team, and Sturridge never got taught how to pass because he's been told since he was 11 he's a striking prodigy (HA!)
I'd rather sign just Walcott and continue with Sterling.
Possibly back-up LB and CDM, although that could wait till the summer imo. Robinson might just surprise us and Lucas is back soon.

YNWA! (Adam)

Hi eds good day to you all

More good news last night in the fight for justice
A MP called for the FA to face the full force of law for their involvement in the Hillsbourgh disaster.
Kenny Daglish called for it at the weekend, but of coarse no media reported.
Keep the faith and keep strong. They will try to defame us more before they are in the dock. We have got to this stage, now for the next push to put those who really killed the 96 where they belong
Justice for the 96. YNWA.

I honestly think that we should make a move for Jack Butland, quality young goalkeeper, would do well with a solid back four in front of him. As we have no up and coming goalkeeper coming through, (I don't believe Gulacsi is good enough, after having seen him play for Hull - where I live). Also if he performs to the standard he has been, and reaches his potential his value will rocket,

HullRED {Ed063's Note - What about Jones? I thought he played very well against Reading}

I agree Eds but at 30 years old and playing second fidle to reina(who is by far past his best) he isn't exactly one for the future, just look at Chelsea and Man Utd; they have Courtois and De Gea.

By no means am I saying our current personell are useless.

HullRED {Ed063's Note - Fair enough then mate. I'd love Krul}

Butland, krul, ter-stegan
any of those will do for me, {Ed063's Note - And Vorm.}

Right guys, SAF has said we have a great chance of winning the champions leauge if we keep our defenders fit as we can hurt any team going foward so I thought if we played Barca what team would you play? I'd pick this side
De gea, shot stopping would be vital
Rafael, attacks when needed and getting solid at the back
Smalling, fast and good tackler
Vidic, because he's pure class
Buttner, same as rafael
Jones CDM, cover ground well stay close to messi
Valencia will put the defence under pressure and help rafa
Ando cm and clevs left (like toon game) for energy and pace
Rooney behind rvp
I think that is the only team we could play that would be good enough to beat Barca,
What do you all think?

Ha HA i thought only we had good humour sense.they r catchin up,as they always do.

Atleast we are playing in the champions league ? When was the last time liverpool played in the CL ? {Ed063's Note - When will people listen to me! We are playing in a top secret competition that only allows the elite of the elite in. You have to have won the Champions league at least 5 times to be allowed in. So of course you wouldn't know about this league, if you don't believe me go ask Bond on the United page. Him and I were discussing Liverpool's prospects in it just this morning}

You've won the Champions League once, you won the European Cup 4 times when there was only one team from each country. It's a real achievement...but the Champs League is a far superior competition than the old European Cup...and you're not in it....again

AJH {Ed063's Note - They're one in the same thing and it could be argued that the European cup was harder. Straight knockout and we didn't get knocked out by teams like Basel. It was against the CHAMPIONS - not teams from serbia and ukraine.}

Yes yes, top secret top tier competition with the likes of Academica, H.Kiryat Shmona, Hapoel T.Aviv, Levante, Maribor, Maritimo, Molde, Rapid Vien , Videoton. Wow that is certainly a league of its own. Grand old glory days for Liverpool are back.

I'm just waiting for the day the manc cookie crumbles and they end up in the Europa League year after year... Oh wait! they were in the EL last year!

Singred

Ed063, how can it be harder? Thee a now 3 top teams from Spain, Italy and Germany. In the old European Cup, you could avoid a decent team with a good draw and you played a lot fewer matches. Yes, United should have done a lot better in Europe, yes, Liverpool have won 5, but the Champions League is more difficult to win than the old European Cup.

AJH {Ed063's Note - European Cup was straight knockout. And the competition was much more even back then. It was way more difficult}

The european cup was much more difficult to win teams all over europe were playing on much more even terms with the best players from there nation so get a grip and come back when u have ur own nicely polished champs league trophy in ur teams cabinet!
