Just a question who do you think is the next big player for liverpool ed's? and anyone? by next big player I am meaning one of the young kids from the academy coming up and by big player im meaning the next gerrard (not saying gerrard is past it) or the next barnes or fowler e.t.c.

Cheers C {Ed002's Note - I will leave this for others to answer.}

Suso or Sterling are the best prospects we have. So those two have the best chance of becoming an iconic player like Fowler or Gerrard.

Thanks for your opinion, how old is suso? I have watched a fair amount of uner 18 games. They both look pretty good more impressed with sterling if im being honest.

Cheers C

Silva is also a class act. Ross

Looking at our first team and our squad, I don't think we're that weak. The only weak part in our team is left back, right wing and left wing. The rest of the team is solid. We should try and get a top class left back (Cissokho), top class right back (Payet) and a top class left winger (Coentrao)

- - - - - - - - Reina- - - - -
Johnson Kelly(Carra) Agger Cissokho

Payet Gerrard Lucas Coentrao

- - - - - Carroll- Suarez- - - -

IMO that is a title winning team. We don't need to do wholesale changes, just 2-3 quality additions.

BTW i know its a bit random but Odemwingie is 29. i thought he was like 21/ 22 or summin. he a great goalscorer. where on earth has he been in his career.

Harry5:)YNWA {Ed001's Note - France, then he moved to Russia. He was always highly rated in France.}

Do people still want Charlie Adam??? He's been really poor the last 6 games

To be honest I do like him as a player but there are two reasons I don't want him now! The price. . im sure it was going to be around 12 million which was way to much for the player IMO.

The second reason is looking at the squad now do we need him? next season we will have gerrard, merieles, lucas, spearing, shelvey and possibly suso and coady if they make the step up. I don't know about you but I wouldn't take lucas out of my team for adam! lucas is still improving and has been unreal this season.

Saying this if blackpool get relegated and they are willing to drop there price down to 5, 6 million then I would buy him.

In reply to:

"{Ed001's Note - about what?}"

Torres finally scored, no more jokes mate.

MPez {Ed001's Note - I enjoyed it most because me mate, who is a Hammer, posted a status about Torres being brought on and how he was a waste of space, just as he posted it the goal went in. I did enjoy winding him up about that.}

Funny how when I say Charlie Adam is going to Spurs you all freak out.
But, when a Liverpool fan says it you all agree.

Wonder how much Abramovic payed West Ham to let Torres score?

Ed, I bet you're rightly happy now!

Macca, any news?? Seems the targets u suggested were close are edging closer to other destinations?? Are those players still options? If not who could be possible targets??

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hi Mate,

No real news from my side, but i do agree that the targets seem to have changed some what due to the availability of other better players.

The status of one player who is all but done is Ashley Young.

I will try and find definitive answers at the end of the season.

Hey ed
still no word of the new kit maker on sky sports or anywer else for that matter is it a true story?, and i think the 2 lads flanagan and robinson are playing like they wer playing there for years they are real quality so why would we need a left back in the summer wen we hav johnson who can play left and robo as cover, and kelly as right back wit flanno as cover, just want to know your thoughts man
fagan 81 {Ed001's Note - I don't know about the kit manufacturer, I can't find anything to back it up either, but I wouldn't really expect anything until it is officially announced.}

it was in the Times yesterday, which is subscription only and it was on the official website last night, the article was posted on the EST forum.

{Ed001's Note - we did not reject the chance to sign him at all, we had a bid rejected.}

I heard that we made an enquiry and that they wanted 13 million euros for him, which we rejected because we didn't want to pay that much. {Ed001's Note - we made a bid it was rejected and we never went back, mainly because we were busy dealing with trying to get a striker in.}

If we were busy bring strikers in while did we bid for Ashley Young on deadline day, if we did actually bid for them. {Ed001's Note - because we were rejected in a bid for Elia and thought we could get Young on the cheap instead. But the Carroll deal held everything up and nothing got done in the end.}

Kelly (our best right back) injured, Agger (Our best centre back) injured, Gerrard (best centre midfielder) injured, Johnson injured, but yet we are still beating teams like man city 3-0, birmingham 5-0, getting a point at arsenal, on paper we look very weak to be honest but theres something about us recently and i don't know what it is. .
Let it continue and hopefully we'll grab that 5th spot

Ed are we still likely to get young and who is the most likely left back to come in the summer cheers; {Ed001's Note - it doesn't look likely now that Young will join. Most likely left back is really difficult to say, we are interested in Coentrao, but I am not sure if that is for left back or left wing.}

Who are the most likely wingers to join? I'd imagine Coentrao would join as a left back, he's been playing there a lot more this season. {Ed001's Note - Payet and Elia are currently the most likely, but there is a long way to go before the window opens yet and so it could change a lot.}

Payet does seem very likely IMO but I am not sp sure on Elia. We rejected the chance to sign him in January due to cost and I feel we'll go after someone else. Merveaux seems another winger who'll sign. {Ed001's Note - we did not reject the chance to sign him at all, we had a bid rejected.}

I'm not just talking about 'lately'. I've thought this way for 18 months at least. Every time he's out we look more balanced and settled.
- - - - - - - - - -
I have to disagree. We have always played better with Gerrard & will do for at least another 3 years. Simply because he's so good. He hasn't really played much under Kenny, but as soon as next season starts he'll be fit, plus with summer signings he'll be playing in a better team playing better football that suits him. If his injuries are now behind him I reckon he'll have a quality season next year.

B4 clicking any buttons think:do u want a traitor who jumped ships not giving a damn about us to win the title or do u want a club who we all LFC fans hate bt we all have great respect for the rivalry between us to win it and Manure winning the title this year will motivate us even more to end our league drought??????

OR. do you not really give a toss about the above and take a leaf out of KK's book and concentrate on our own team and just support them and cheer them on to keep winning. Unless we are playing either team we have no say in how well or poorly they do and although we all love both to fall flat on their ugly mugs i am sure that KK has the players only looking at the next game and have the opposition worrying about us! !

Theres been a lot of talk about Benzema, but do you think there's any chance of Real selling Higuain, and how much would he cost?

23 Apr 2011 20:42:40
Now something you won't like. We look a better more balanced team without Gerrard and we have for quite a while. Maybe it's time we considered moving him on.
- - - - - -
I've heard that a few times lately. But I don't understand why. Since he's been out, Spearing has come in. Spearing is so similar to Lucas, Whereas Gerrard offers you something completely different than Lucas. So how is it more balanced? Having a diversity gives you a balance, not having the same type. A match fit Gerrard coming into this team now would improve us ten fold. Remember, he played v Man U unfit & still played magnificently. Just because we don't rely on him as much as we did in the past does not mean he's surplus to requirements.

Stone YNWA.

{Ed002's Note - I think he is a very good player who would fit right in to the EPL. I think he will prove to be a very good buy for someone. He has Champions League football if he wishes to stay at Porto, suitors in a couple of major sides, certainly AC Milan and possibly both Manchester clubs amongst others. Whilst I really don't see him moving to Liverpool this summer I am afraid, there remains a slight possibility that it could happen.} lol @ staying cuz of CL with porto.

Brilliant match. Well done to Maxi for his hat-trick. The lads passing and willingness to attack was a sight to behold. Hunted down every ball, followed every shot in. But I'll tell you what, the great unsung hero of that game is Lucas. Be broke Birmingham up time after time after time. He is coming on leaps and bounds.

Now something you won't like. We look a better more balanced team without Gerrard and we have for quite a while. Maybe it's time we considered moving him on.

It is well documented that Aguero wants to leave Athletico at the end of the season, He signed a new contract in January and is on a lot more than 96.000 euros, And there have been many Spanish journalists who have a good idea what is happening in Spain, and have said about his wage demands, And they have also said that Real are very interested in buying him in the summer. Ross

Good observations but I am not sure about some comments in this thread. . . . But

Inter are after Tevez plus they have Eto and Milito
Milan are full in striker's dept.
Barca don't need him (plus they have Villa)
Real have promised Llorente
Bayern have Gomez and Muller
Liverpool have Suarez
ManU have Rooney
Aresenal has Arsene Wenger (who will never pay and buy)

So the question would be "where can he go?"

Chelsea
Juventus (but he would never win a title there)

My guess would be Chelsea. . . . . Take ur pick {Ed001's Note - you know Madrid only have Higuain as an out and out striker and were caught out this season by his long term injury. They intend to buy two strikers, one to replace Benzema and one to make sure they don't get caught short again. So there is still a possibility of a move for Aguero.}

Eds - this is more of a meta-rumour than a rumour and one that may sound wacky but does have science to back it up. The idea is that you try to harness the "wisdom of the crowd" (Google it if you don't know the term). The idea is that if lots of people are asked who they think we are trying to sign and you look at the most common responses they will probably be pretty accurate. You could have a crowdsourcing page listing the players that have been linked with us (and those linked with transfers out). You could get readers to vote for who they think we will sign (not who they want us to sign). Then have a look at the results and that should give a pretty accurate view

Well if that's to be true then he has to go because I can't see him playing a major part next season & £70k/ pw is just too much for a squad player. Same situation with Joe Cole too, sad because I like them both. But we have to try and offload them.

Looking at the fixture list, I believe that we will surpass Tottenham, with them facing Chelsea, City, Us, Birmingham and Blackpool, I can see us doing them and Chelsea, a both are away.
Man City is away, but I could see a draw there.
Now, City, they face Blackburn on Monday, Everton, who were unlucky at United today, West Ham and Stoke who both need results. Maybe City will focus more on the FA Cup (hopefully). City also face Bolton who are a physical battling side, which i think City may struggle with.
We have four cup finals essentially, with a possibility of finishing fourth being the reward, personally i think we can do it, todays performance has shown that we are ready to play openly and go for the goals we need.
Were on the charge.

I can see us getting 12 pts out of 12 until the end of the season so fingers crossed city and spurs fluff their lines and we can creep back into 4th place. Fair play to kenny and Clarke for dragging us from near relegation to pushing for European football again.

Which is £4.5m a year? So if my maths is correct he's on about 90k/ pw? If he's to be kept as a squad player that has to be reduced.
Did you purposely make a double negative? Because it seems significant to me.

Jose Enrique to AC Milan

Supposedly the offered 15million (euros) and Newcastle have taken it on board to free up more cash.

Apparently Newcastle will have £35m from Carroll, E15m from Enrique and Ashley is adding £10m, they are going to get Gervinho, Ngog, Konk, Gomis and try for Spearing(OL) plus they want to finalise the Ben Arfa deal and buy a new CB; Sahko is Pardew's first choice.

That is what i was told by my mate who was heavily involved in Newcastle under the Shearer Era.

(Hoping to shed light on Jay, Ngog and Enrique.

Why Liverpool will get 5th place!
Big statement I know but here is my reasoning

Current situation
Tottenham are 3 points ahead with a game in hand
Liverpool's goal difference is better by 4 goals.

So next week it's Liverpool vs Newcastle and Chelsea vs tottenham - so lets just say we win 1 - 0 and chelsea win 1 - 0. so even if this is the minimum scores this will leave us even on points with tottenham with +6 goal difference against them. ( quite likely that we will win and they will lose IMO )

The following week is spurs game in hand week so the games are Fulham vs liverpool and tottenham vs blackpool. IMO I feel that we have a chance of getting a win out of this game. So say we both win so if this happens we will still be on the same points as tottenham with say +4 goal difference on them but with tottenham still having a game in hand on us. Tottenhams game in hand is Manchester city vs Tottenham - in this game I would expect man city to win or at the very least a draw. So the table would say we were still on the same points or maybe 1 point behind. with both of us have played the same amount of games!

The next game is Liverpool Vs Tottenham - on our recent home form I would hope we would win this! so the table would say liverpool are 3 points ahead of tottenham with maybe +7 goal difference.

So we go into the last game of the season the fixtures are Aston Villa vs Liverpool & Tottenham vs Birminham. I think we could at least get a draw here which would be enough but lets say we lose and tottenham win we would be on even points and hopefully we would stay 5th with our goal difference!

Yes things don't always go to plan as we have all seen lately but I feel this is a fair statement and I really do think we will get 5th place and europe!

4th is out of reach!

Opinions?

Cheers C

Sergio Aguero is currently on less than Joe Cole is at Liverpool, he earns 96,000 euros a week, which works out at less than 5 million euros a year. Where the hell does this 200k a week come from?

. . . . . . . . .

In england, footballers get taxed 50% of their wages, we'll have to double what he's getting now at Athletico for him to get the same amount here after tax

lil_elf
- - - - - - - - - - -
It is well documented that Aguero wants to leave Athletico at the end of the season, He signed a new contract in January and is on a lot more than 96.000 euros, And there have been many Spanish journalists who have a good idea what is happening in Spain, and have said about his wage demands, And they have also said that Real are very interested in buying him in the summer. Ross
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Guillerhme Balague (sp) is possibly the most reliable source in football; especially in spain, and he knows of deals including said Aguero, Llorente, Benzema and Tevez; he said that Real are interested in Aguero, Llorente and Tevez next season with Higuain being also in the team; Which means Benzema would almost definately be gone. (Aguero is on over 200k a week and wherever you heard 96k from is completely ludicrous.) Tevez wants out again and Inter and Real are interested; if the don't sign Aguero. Your sources are of the Heinz kind as 96k is bonkers. {Ed007's Note - I wouldn't use Guillem Balague as a reliable source, the guy just courts controversy and sensational headlines}

Liverpools home form is as good as the other top 4 teams.
However the away form is as poor as the teams threatened by regulation.

If Liverpool had won or drew more of the away games, they could be occupying 4th spot now.

Great result, great performance. Yes it was only Birmingham but they're the games we tend to struggle in.

I bet Maxi will end up getting a new contract. I think he would make a good squad player, as long as he takes a bit of a pay cut. I assume he's on high wages Ed? Or am I wrong?

Also I hope Shelvey plays more. I rate him (as an attacking/ centre mid, not left back. .). If you seen his performance away at Napoli and have doubts, I'm shocked.

With the emergence of Martin Kelly and John Flanagan, KK has decided to out Glen Johnson up for sale for 20m, as he prefers Kelly playing at right back. Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan are interested, but it looks as if Tottenham are willing to put up the cash to sign him. We may offer him in a swap deal for Luka Modric or Aaron Lennon, but sources persist with Tottenham stumping up the cash to take him to London.

Eds,
Was having a ponder about all the usual rumours, and had a bit of ponder about foreign players, and players transfering in to us from abroad.
Would I be right in perusing that many of the transfer fees & deals are actually priced in Euro's?
If so, do clubs tend to hold cash reserves of Euro's?
With regards to players, do players always get paid in Pounds, or do they sometimes get paid in another currency?

Carroll isn't the fastest forward and would not fit into a passing side, like Barca, but is dynamite in the air which would suggest we get 2 good wingers who can cross the ball, this is a bit predictive and I don't think he offers much else, I am just thinking if he doesn't fit into our long term plans he could be utilised as a centre back who would dominate in the air in defence and at set pieces. Whatdya think?

Strange that such greats of the football world are not miles in front of the rest of us mere mortal teams. Strange that they are not going to win a single trophy this season when they are as great as you reckon. I wonder why that is? Is this bloke for real???? Gareth Bale is a very good player . . . for an average team. Gareth Bale for Liverpool, Manure, The Arse, Barcelona would not happen. Because he is a very good player WHEN he's in an average team.
I am a Welshman and I know that Bale is a good player. World class he isn't. He could be in a few years but depends on where he is playing, injury history etc.
As much as I hate to say it, because even as a a welshman I hate him, but Ryan Giggs was a world class left winger. Gareth Bale is unproved, still prone to silly mistakes and wrong decisions. This isn't to say he is crap, it's to say he doesn't have the experience at this time. He's a good player but at this point in time, there are at least 15 better in the premiership. Yids won't agree but it's true. Only when you have proven yourself on a more consistent basis can you say that you are the best.

By the way Ed's, brilliant site, keep it going, 2-0 so far, 4 by the end of the day

I love the optimism for people thinking we could sneak into fourth but lets wait until we are fifth before looking to get any higher. It looks as if West Brom are giving Del Boy's lads a run for there money so possibly more dropped points. If only bale was playing. . . oh wait a minute he is, PFA player of the year ha ha

p.s i think it would be a good idea if everyone signed there post, just so we could have a good laugh at the people who said "sell kuyt" and "how bad he is".

In response to this:

Absolute rubbish. A planning application with get validation within 1 month of submitting an appliaction (give or take a week), this is to speed up the decision process. 2-3 years??? Nonsense.

GoodKopBadKop (Architect)

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

This is misleading. the application will be validated within 4 - 6 weeks in swift circumstances. Validation is not the same as Approval. A Planning Application the size of a football stadium (and its surrounding area) will no doubt take up to 2 years to gain approval (1 year if fast-tracked). We can then start works on site at any point after gaining approval - probably immediately - with a build time of 2-3 years.

Redeveloping Anfield will be tricky - as we need to keep the stadium in use throughout the building process. I expect a reduced capacity for a couple of seasons whilst we rebuild parts of the stadium.

Its the right thing to do - redevelop Anfield, keep the traditional stadium (unlike identikit, characterless modern EPL stadiums). Old Trafford and St James Park have expanded whilst keeping their historic home. We should do the same.

Ann Architect.

Aguero, Aguero, Aguero, that's all i'm hearing. . Dirk Kuyt has 11 league goals from the right wing! ! Aguero 14 league goals, please stop with the Aguero bull, £40m for him would be a waste when we have Suarez and Carroll

Liverpool do the unlikely, in 2005 at 3-0 they were beaten, they did it, in 2007 they made the final once more, and they also managed to come back from the brink against West Ham in 2006 FA Cup final, Liverpool are fighters and do the unlikey, they will do all they can to get 4th until it is mathematically unlikely.

Anfield Andy {Ed007's Note - I think 4th place is well with in your reach}

Juust wondering guys, does anyone else believe we can go unbeaten to the end of the season and get 4th?
I mean, tottenham have some really hard games coming up, along with a clash with Man City, which could end in a very helpful draw?

Iv been saying it to my mates for some time now, and I truly believe we have every chance to push on and get that Champions League spot, although I understand it will be very difficult!

Any views from the eds?

Anfield Andy {Ed002's Note - It is of course possible, but I am afraid pretty unlikely. Fifth is much more of a possibility, particularly given the goal difference situation.}

23 Apr 2011 15:15:55
Carroll isn't the fastest forward and would not fit into a passing side, like Barca, but is dynamite in the air which would suggest we get 2 good wingers who can cross the ball, this is a bit predictive and I don't think he offers much else, I am just thinking if he doesn't fit into our long term plans he could be utilised as a centre back who would dominate in the air in defence and at set pieces. Whatdya think?

23 Apr 2011 15:11:09
With the emergence of jack robinson, ed do you think he can be #1 lb next season, flannigan, spearing, kelly have been brilliant this season.
what i am thinking is that we have enough cover at the back, glen johnson can cover on any side of defence, so we just need two explosive wingers and maybe one marquee signing (aguero) {Ed001's Note - I don't know if he is ready to be first choice just yet, he is certainly good enough but I don't think he is quite ready.}

So, ed, you don't like those nerve-wrecking, butt on the edge of the seat, heart-stopping games?
League decider at Stamford Bridge, LFC's one up, ten minutes to go, the Chavs are relentlessly bombarding our area, balls getting cleared off the line, balls hitting the post, crossbar left, right and centre, Ramires brought down in the box by Kelly, Chavs get the pen, 3 minutes to go, Le Sulk takes it and misses.

Last 60 seconds. Corner Chavs. Ramires sends it to the far post, Luiz rises above Lucas to power it against the bar with his head, it falls for Sakho, who makes a mess of clearing it as it lands on the feet of Kun Aguero on the edge of the box.

He dribbles past Meireles and M'Vila before pulling the ball back for Essien, who lets fly into the top corner. Pepe tips it over. Just as Ramires is about to go take the resulting corner, Massey blows for full time.

The away contigent, players and the bench go beserk.
A Carrol strike and and own goal by El Sulk sees Liverpool lifting the Barclays title for the first time in 21 years.

So ed, such nerve-wrecking thrills make you "physically sick"?
Personally, these are the moments, the thrills, I live for. Yes, more or less, I'd prefer to win it without the grief, but when it's there, it makes the game that much beautiful, especially when you end up winning it.

Istanbul, Juventus in Turin, Olympiacos, 4-4 Stamford Brigde.
What about Arsenal last week? Wenger and the Gooners going beserk as Persie converts what looks like the winning goal. Then some 60 seconds later, the Emirates faithful's hearts are on throats and Wenger's squating, hoping against hope that they don't unstuck as Kuyt looks to rescue a point for the Reds from the penalty mark. Boos ring round the Emirates as
Marriner blows his whistle.
The Dutchman steps up and coolly strikes it past . . can't spell his name.
Liverpool rescue a richly deserved point.
Gooners silent, broken and deflated.

Love it.
But one thing I agree with you on is that that game was there for the taking.
Rafa f***ed up big time there.
We should have put it to bed before the hour mark.
But good game and a great victory, nevertheless.

Such fighting spirit and desire. We should really have kicked and reached for the Moon after. Imagine ed if Tom and John instead of those tramps had came in during that time?
Ah, well.

Cudroe {Ed001's Note - I know what you mean, they are great moments and give great memories, I was just saying I would prefer us to just go win trophies rather than fluking them. And yes the stress does make me physically sick, me mam was the same, it gave her ulcers and I am pretty sure it is doing the same for me! But I can't help it, nothing else phases me but watching us play is the most stressful thing in the world.}

Best post you have done to date imo Ed001. Well said.
Sad thing is 'with our supposedly rubbish team' if Kenny had been manager since the start of the season we would be easily above Spurs in the league.

And no real LFC fan would want Bale, Lennon or any of there players who are simply not good enough (except for Modric - who will leave). They over achieved in 1 season and its gone to their heads.

Have to laugh at these Spurs fans Ed. Arry will do what he does best this summer, spend loads of other peoples money and drag the club into financial difficulty. Mark my words, Spurs will get nowhere near the Champions League again. Yes Arry made a good deal with VDV (who will leave I think), but common, with Woodgate, Dawson, Gallas, King, the cameroonian mug and Hutton - he certainly needs help choosing defenders. Bit like Wenger.

Hope Spurs fans enjoyed it while it lasted. Dark days ahead imo. {Ed001's Note - bit harsh mate, I was just winding the guy up. Mind I do agree that Harry would spend the club into trouble if he could but it is unlikely as being stuck at White Hart Lane is going to curtail spending.}
******************************
Didn't actually mean it in a bad way Ed. Just really don't like Harry. Spurs were always my second club and had a soft spot for them. Harry makes a lot of rubbish buys and wastes money. Yes he gets his team playing good football but can never sort out a defence. He also never promotes youngsters - he always has a temp fix (some late 20's journeyman). Have you seen Walker the young RB play. Awesome player, much better than Hutton, but Villa will buy him. The fact that he is after Joe Cole (still) shows he has no clue.

P.S. - left Kaboul off the list - also rubbish and inury prone "Woodgate, Dawson, Gallas, King, the cameroonian mug and Hutton - he certainly needs help choosing defenders" {Ed001's Note - Walker is top class and they have Naughton, both are excellent but Harry doesn't give them enough chances.}

I think we should have at least tried it this season as we have no wingers. Hasn't been done cause Kuyt is undroppable.

There is a big difference between wing play and coming forward from RB. Coming onto the ball vs receiving the ball with your back to defender. I think Johnson could do a decent enough job, but he is our best RB, so I would leave him there, shift Kelly to CD and buy a top class RM with pace.

Suarez the Red
**************************
This is where the rose coloured glasses come in again. Yes we all love the local lads, but Kelly has half a decent season and he is better than Johnson? Common mate, Johnson is a fantastic player and should be first choice. Kelly is more suited to CD in anycase. He is not a fantastic dribbler nor does he have loads of skill, yes he runs up and down the touchline all game, but lets not overhype the lad. Johnson is World Class and for some reason gets too much stick from certain LFC fans imo.

Besides, Kenny rates Johnson in any case, so he is going nowhere. Check the LFC website today.

we have always said the same thing about Johnson "Great attacker, weak defender", so put him on right wing. He's fast, got a good cross and can come on the inside. With Johnson infront of Kelly that's a strong right side in both attack and defense. Kelly and Johnson can also be interchanged with Kelly being able to play on the right wing and with Flanagen waiting in the wings at RB we should leave him alone. - Mc

"How can I possibly tell Kenny Dalglish that Ashley won't be joining Liverpool", whispered Houllier.

"Don't worry about it boss", replied concerned Bent. "You just concentrate on getting better. Leave the Dalglish business to me".

"Will you ring him then", said Houllier quietly.

"If you like", said Bent.

"But make sure you don't offend him. Kenny's a good bloke".

"Sure, I'll be very gentle", said Bent.

"I'll just tell him Ashley can't stand Liverpool, doesn't want to live amongst a load of Scousers and has already found himself a fabulous house only a mile away from Manchester United's Carrington training ground".

"That'll break his bloody heart", said Houllier.

"So what", said Bent.

"You could do with some company as you get better".

Suarez the Red

A few comments to start the banter:

1) Can't people just get it into there heads that the likes of Aguero, Sanchez & Hazard will not be coming - even if we bid (which we won't). Aguero is like Suarez in anycase, it wouldn't work with both and one wouldn't be happy on the bench, we need wingers more in anycase.

2) Who cares who makes our kit? As long as it is red. I am sure it will always look decent.

3) CM: Charlie Adam - common people, even old whiskey nose rates the lad. We have no play maker in CM and he could do a job - at least a squad player. He is a tough lad and always gives his all. Do you really want some lightweight foreign prima-donna in this role? I wouldn't pay more than 10m though for him. If Holloway carries on his cr@p, we should go for Honda. Not sure why we didn't try harder in Jan. He is a fantastic player to compete with Meireles for that AM role.

4) LB: Coentrao - I don't agree with Ed002. I think if we tried we could get him and he is the best LB in the world. Kenny will not give him the same license Benfica do to play LW all game, but he will still get forward often and he can defend well. Enrique is very avg imo. If not Coentrao, then Cissokho or Baines (who I doubt will come) or else just play Robinson and get Wendt for free.

5) CD: Unless we sell Agger (as I would be leaning towards) we do not need a CB. Cahill is avg. With Agger, Skrtel, Kelly, Wilson, Ayala & Carra. Why must we sign another CD?

6) Wingers: Not sure why so many people don't want us to sign the likes of Jarvis, N'Zogbia or Downing. A top french or spanish winger (who are all as small as Jay) is a risk which we have taken before and not worked. Jarvis & N'Zogbia wouldn't cost more than 10m - 12m and have proven they are quality in our league. I personally would go all in for Albrighton, who is brilliant. Young is overated and a selfish player, thankfully I think he will go to ManU.

7) DM: I do not think we need to sign a DM as Lucas and Spearing (with Coady coming through next year) gives us cover in that position. So I do not think we need a Banega, M'Vila or Matuidi.

8) CF: I would only try for Wickham as do we really want a big name to come and sit on the bench? Carroll and Suarez won't be benched will they? Wickham is young and has bags of potential. if we can't get him, Kuyt will cover for Suarez & Carroll and buy a CF next year. Morgan also looks a gem, with Suso stepping up into the Suarez role I think. As long as Ngog leaves I am happy.

9) My signings would be:
Coentrao (Baines or Cisshokho as 2nd choice)
Adam
Honda
Jarvis (N'Zogbia as 2nd choice)
Albrighton (if Villa refuse to sell, then Payet)
Wickham

All in all +- 80m with about 20m recouped from sales. Sure owners can do that.

All the best for the lads for todays game. I predict 1-0 to us. YNWA

RE stadium waiting go ahead. Done the anfield tour the day after the city match and the tour guide answered my question about the new stadium I asked were we moving she replied liv city council give full promission the week previous to start work on are beloved anfield and she said we are just waitin on the new owners to take the plunge. when I asked what was happening she said the main stand anfield road and the kop all going up and back and we will have boxes all the way round. It will be opened at 65,000 and bit by bit will be worked on as utd did when it is finished it will be a 80,000 seater.

Cant see any of this being true, anyone with half a

brain wouldn't contemplate putting boxes in the kop,

think about it

I've not heard any rumours regarding him, but what do you think about Thiago Silva ed? Pretty fast and I think he's 26. How much would he be worth?

CL x

{Ed006's Note - He is 26 yes, I couldnt tell you how much he would be worth but it would be over £10m and we don't need to sign another CB I don't think. If Agger can stay fit.}
*******************
I seriously think that we need to start thinking with our heads a bit more than just our hearts. Agger, Aurelio and the like have proved that they cannot stay injury free for more than 3 consecutive games. This will always be a disruption and surely its time they moved on. If Gerrard continues to be as injurt prone next year, perhaps he should look to retire too. LFC comes first - no player is bigger than the club.

Whats the crack with the sign up to united add smack bang in the middle of the page with Berbaflop? {Ed001's Note - Adsense obviously doesn't want to make any money out of the site!}

23 Apr 2011 11:05:23
I don't want to sound petty, but the Google Ad for Utd seems a little misplaced on this site. {Ed001's Note - unfortunately Adsense decides what ads show up, only thing it does is ensure you won't be clicking on it and so loses both the site and Adsense money really.}

"Not a transfer rumour, but I have heard that Liverpool have signed a kit deal with a Boston based company called 'Warrior Sports', who are specialists in producing kits for hockey teams and lacrosse teams. This deal will dawn at the start of the 2012-13 season and they will provide kits and training equipments. This deal is worth £25m a year, which is a new British record for a kit deal, the previous being Manchester United's £23.5m deal with Nike. Seems like this is the end of the historical era of Liverpool Adidas Kits. Any thoughts on this shall be warmly welcomed. Thanks."

Historical era? We haven't been with Adidas that long. Have you forgotten the Reebok kits??????
- - - - - - -

if you remember we were with addidas before we switched to reebok"

Yeah - and we were with umbro before that.

By the time the current Adidas deal expires we will have been with them for 6 years. You used the words historical era, but if you run it from when they took over from Reebok, it's hardly been successful has it??????

Also, just because the new kit won't be made by Adidas, there's nothing saying they won't make them again in the future is there.

You never know - these new kits could be really nice. Give it a go! !

In england, footballers get taxed 50% of their wages, we'll have to double what he's getting now at Athletico for him to get the same amount here after tax

Can we stop this nonsense please. The so called Beckham tax allowed foreigners to pay only 24% tax on spanish earnings for a 5 year period. On 1 January 2010 Spain changed it's tax law and on all contracts signed since then there is a cap of 600000 euros so foreign footballers now have to pay normal income tax with a top rate of 43%. The Beckham tax never applied to spanish players or players who played in spanish football for more than 5 years.

{Ed002's Note - You are missing the point. It is not the % tax that is the driver, but Agueros contract provides a salery Net of tax, not Gross.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The tax issue means he is LESS LIKELY to sign for ANY club in England, not just Liverpool.If he has any loyalty at all he won't sign for Real Madrid

And for that reason ( the Real Madrid thing )I think he will discard the tax issue, and sign for an English club anyway.And with him supposedly being a fan, if LFC were interested, I beleive they would probably be favourites to sign him. . . Depends on if we are interested

Whilst I agree that for a us fans it really shouldn't be an issue whether the shirt is ugly or otherwise, we should remember that not everyone who buys a Liverpool shirt is a fan.

Some people buy merchandise for its fashionability.
A person walks into a store, sees a Liverpool or Chelsea shirt, likes it and buys it, not because it's an LFC or CFC shirt, but simply because it's good-looking.

So, a fairly unknown concern like Warrior kickstarting their adventure in the football biz by designing "ugly" merchandise would be nothing short of suicidal, imo.

I wouldn't want them to make a bravura of it, but please, for the sake of my neighbour, colleagues, sister-in law, gardener, barber, mechanic and carpenter, who purchase LFC's merchandise because it's fashion appeal, conjure-up something actually decent.

Lastly, would like to say big-ups to Ian Ayre. Terrific bloke. Keep it up. We love you, sir.
Warrior and Standard C, massive, massive deals. £180m in four years. Wow!

Oh, ed, saw a post where you said you believed the 3rd winger would be Elia.
I saw a wee bit of him here during the WC. Looked to be quick, pacey and tricky.
You reckon he'd set the Prem alight were he to come?
There's summat about him that reminds me of Balotelli. Seems like the "throw the toys out of the pram" type.

Cudroe {Ed001's Note - I have to admit I am dubious about him, but I would say Dalglish is a far better man-manager than Mancini and so could get more out of any player.}

Hi Eds, There seem to be a lot of rumours that we are going to be bringing in 12, 15, 20 players if you believe some of them. This is not realistic at all and wanted to know your thoughts. Ideally I would like to sign Young, Adam, Enrique and Hulk. We should be able to do business for around 45 - 50 million for these players and with a lot of the deadwood we will be getting rid of, our owners won't actually have to put a lot of money towards it. One other thing ed, What is your opinion on hulk and would he fit into our current team. I think he is immense and what we have been missing for a while now.
Brilliant site eds, have been a big fan for a long time, keep it up {Ed002's Note - Hulk is without doubt an excellent player - but there will be a number of teams interested in him.}

Strong rumours in merseyside that aguero is signing in the summer
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Aguero will never sign for Liverpool, the harsh reality is we can not afford him, he is on £200,000 a week and would cost £40 Million, does that represent value for money. Please do not post rubbish Ross

So what were Spurs doing bidding 40 mil for him in January? Can they afford his alleged 0.8 million quid a month wages? Not saying your wrong but your response is very dismissive without looking at the bigger picture.
- - - - - - - - -
I understand your point of view, but If Spurs buy him for 40 million and then his wages would be about 10 million a year, on a 5 year contract that is 90 million.
Do you really think Spurs can afford that, I really don't think they generate enough cash to pay those kind of wages and neither do Liverpool. Plus you would need to pay other players more money as well, all of these things have to be taken into account. Ross

/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Exactly, which is the main reason I believe he would not cost any EPL team 200k a week, unless they offered to pay him it, ala City. He's a guaranteed money spinner merchandising wise and any PL club interested in buying him knows they could turn 20 million profit on him within 2 years.
- - - - - - -
What is the point in buying a player for couple of seasons, are we now going to be a feeder club for the likes of Madrid and Barcelona. We need a settled team, players that will be hear for many years.
Aguero is quite temperamental as well, so if he is not happy he will be throwing his toys out of the pram. Does this remind you of anyone?? Ross

Resting quietly after yesterday's heart scare, Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has inadvertently let slip the destination of his want-away winger, Ashley Young - explains Sports Writer of the Year, Damian Twigley.

Speaking on his mobile this morning to striker, Darren Bent, Houllier had no idea that ace reporter Twigley had earlier hacked his way into his private iPhone, with a view to securing an exclusive on his state of health.

Instead of which, Twigley found himself listening-in to some red-hot transfer news.

Ed do you think that there is any truth in this??. it seems a load of bullsh*** but then again you never know. . thanks. .

Where is you guys sense of humour. It's meant to be a joke, obviously. Why would you ask the Eds if its any truth in it. LOL

So many rumours about Aguero but i honestly don't see this happening due to competition for places in his position and the price tag. Real pity tho because i remember watching a programme years ago when he was only 18 yrs old and he stated that his dream would be to play for Liverpool. would be a great buy but lets be realistic and accept he will not be joining us. No way Kenny will pay £40million for one player. Any thoughts Ed? {Ed001's Note - it is very unlikely, we are not desperate for a striker but we do need other positions as a priority. The money would be better spent on the wide positions.}

Ed do you think that there is any truth in this??. it seems a load of bullsh*** but then again you never know. . thanks. .

Hu. {Ed001's Note - that is complete nonsense, Bent has nothing to do with any kind of management at the club. Houllier wouldn't delegate responsibility when he was in danger of dying, he is certainly not going to delegate it now to a player! I would think Gary Mac would be upset if he did anyway.}

Just Type Damian Twigley into Google. {Ed001's Note - is it some kind of spoof journo or something?}

To be honest though, for the money we could do far better than Young anyway.
It might be a blessing in disguise if he didn't come to LFC.

I've looked back at the season as someone asked me to some it up and next season. This season, firstly at the start the club was in termoile, new manager, new players and unhappy owners and fans. Now I look at it. A legend in charge who had proved himself over the course of his current term in charge, but I also look at the ownership and the players. Ian ayers has been brilliant for Liverpool and as a fan I wish to thank him. But with the financial backing of the owners I think we can improve and challenge for top four next season. The prospects across the squad are also now bright. Spearing and Lucas have been brilliant and the youngsters coming through on the full back spots have been impressive. Good time to be a Liverpool fan.

Realistic red.
