As bad as Roy is and as much as I don't want him to be at the helm of the club changing the manager now would do more damage to our season then help! The player have been used to playing under Roys negative tactics and so if a new manager comes in it will take 5-8 games to install his philosophy into the player etc by which point there would only be 12 games left which won't be enough to make up the points for CL qualification! But I do think we should have a serious look at Coyal at the end of the season.

It's not fact benitez will be sacked monday, moratti said before the game even if we lose benitez is the man to take us forward.inter know with injurys world cup fatigue, change of manager, the burnout of senior players and lack of investment this summer that benitez had a difficult job on he's hands.benitez maybe sacked if inter don't beat twente but if he is he's not coming back to anfield.k.b

Can anybody put a chicken- pun- based team for Blackburn? I hear they are interested in Christian Poultry, several players from Turkey, and their manager will be Frank Thighkard!

Big Sam will be sacked, as he won't have a leg to stand on, and the breast of the team are worried that they will be sold!

I was there yesterday and I think pace in the team or lack of it is why we can't win away from home. If we have no one breaking with pace the opposition can have 2 centre backs Looking after the hoofs from our defence toTorres.Also it disapointed me that we didn't go for them 2nd half.I remember 1978 Anfield Mcdermots famous Goal cleared a corner ran the length of the pitch to Head in a Heighway cross in the dying minutes of the game to make it 7-0, now that's desire to entertain.It is my favorite goal of all time.and I was there.11 yrs of age. If any of you youngsters never seen that goal look it up pure team work Brilliant Goal.

Ed, who do you think has been are 3 best players this season?i think steve raul and Lucas {ed's note - that is a tough one, no one has been consistently good this season. Gerrard has probably been our best player overall though, Kelly, when he has played, has done well and Lucas has always put the effort in.}

In response to the issue of Owen Coyle's lack of experience in relation to other potential candidates for the managerial position at Liverpool, I have to say that at some point the club may have to choose between an experienced manager and an ambitious one. To say that a young manager lacks experience is perhaps stating the obvious, just as we could claim that a more established candidate might lack hunger and ambition. Perhaps the answer might be to bring in a manager of Owen Coyle's, ilk, but to provide him with experienced back up. Kenny Dalglish is already at the club and is the perfect example of someone who could provide a young manager with a great deal of invaluable support and advice. It has not escaped me that there are those who might feel that Owen Coyle might be happier where he is for the present, but Liverpool remains a huge draw for a manager, the moreso now that we have new owners. I could not imagine Owen Coyle rejecting Liverpool to remain at Bolton, no matter how good the pies at the Reebok are, especially if Liverpool offered him the tracksuit trousers that he seems to have been having to cope without at Bolton. Could he be the right man to work alongside our director of football and Kenny Dalglish?

Red Owl {ed's note - it is not the draw of Liverpool that is the issue, it is that he has a close affinity with Bolton having played there and has not long taken on the job. It is probably just too soon to get him.}

Comments on what i feel is our strongest team at presents. Think weve looked better this season playing 4 4 2, if we can play it against chelsea we should be able to play it against anyone.

Reina

Johnson Carra Skrtel Konchesky

Cole Gerrard Meireles Aurelio

Kuyt
Torres

Bench whoevers left

Johnson at rb don't think we have a better option at this point and hopefully hel pull his finger out after his ticking off. Aurelio for set plays and crosses, 9 times out of 10 he puts a good delivery in, think hes nearly match fit. Kuty behind torres, gives strength and legs up front so we can press higher up pitch. Cole on right where he played for chelsea (all be it in front 3 still on right). Also can always swap with kuty just for variation.

To whoever said

Team in a couple of years

Reina
? Ayala Wilson ?

? Shelvey Bannan Sterling

Ngoo ?

Anyone fill in the gaps?

Bannan isn't a LFC player and we already have better so fixed it for you below and it's without signing one player, will give us top class in every position

Reina

Kelly Ayala Wilson Robinson

Sterling Shelvey Silva

Pacheco Suso

Ngog

Strong back 4 with pace, ariel power and attacking full backs. Midfield with pace, vision and trickery and goals and skill & guile galore in that front 3!

If you can pick better from our current line up i'd like to see it. infact i'd play that team for the CC games next season and try and blood it as a starting 11 for 3 years time! ! {ed's note - what about Ngoo rather than Ngog? He has much more about him in my opinion.}

Re ; The post that wants to sign Adam Johnson .

I completely agree . The last talented winger we had was John Barnes - pace , dribbling , crossing , creativity and a real goal threat .

I we had Adam Johnson on the wing , the team performances would be a different ball game .

I wonder wether Mancini would ever sell him , I know Mancini played with Attilio Lombardo - a totally creative wide player , I would have thought Mancini had big plans for Adam Johnson .

If we could sign Adam Johnson , even for a large sum , we should .

Ed, what are your thoughts on us signing the below targets. . realistically?

1. Adam Johnson
2. Ever Banaga
3. Fernando Llorente
4. Brade Hangaaland
5. Emmanuel Adebyeour

{Editor's Note: I am not sure that they are targets: Johnson and Banega are the two that would add most to the team. They may be possible. Adebayor is not a player I like particularly, I don't see Llorente as an available option and Hangeland is too old.}

If Adam Johnson becomes available in January, we should honestly go all guns blazing to get hold of him. He's England's best winger in my opinion, and one of England's most tecnical players.

He would fit perfectly on to our left hand side and give us the width we so desperatly crave. Obviously City would want a big fee for him, maybe £15m? I'd certainly pay it because I'm sure his wage demands wouldn't hit the roof.

I can't remember the last time we had someone with true ability on the wings. He's quick, skillful, direct, and can score a goal. Has no problem taking on defenders either.

And personally, I'm tired of watching Maxi play on the left because he's right footed and we have no width on that side at all. Same applies with Joe Cole. Stick Joe out on the right, he's not an out and out winger but atleast it gives us balance, and Joe is very creative.

Apart from yesterdays front two, I think as a team we lack pace. We have defenders in the reserves Wilson, Mavinga, Agger, Kelly who could help us in defence, but our Manager would rather go with experience play deep inviting teams onto us.There is no one in midfield who can break at pace Apart from Gerrard when fit.Once again in reserve we have Amoo, Eccleston, who are not getting chances to establish themselves.I am not saying every player should have pace, but we should be able to mix it up.Setting his team up deep shows me Hodgson is scared of pace.So why doesn't he give other managers the same thing to worry about and if we are playing so deep with slow defenders. Why havent we got some one in the middle who can break with pace? thoughts Ed. {ed's note - I agree it is our major problem, it leaves Torres isolated because everyone is having to drop so deep. You only need one centre back with pace to cover and you can play the match a good five or ten yards further forward and provide more attacking threat and allow support to join Torres much quicker.}

I think that Owen Coyle has to be considered for manager as we need to build a style of play which has been missing I hate to say it but that is what champion teams like ours and manure have been built on.

All I want is either the board back Roy or let him go as the planning has to start now

Winning against West Ham does not prove anything

It is quite refreshing that Fenway Sports Group have brought Damien Comolli to LFC , now we can be optimistic that there will be a player recruitment drive at some point . If that focuses on emerging talent only , we can still be confident that the First Team is being looked after , such are the qualities of the modern day youth players .

I don't think we'll be just targeting 19/ 20 year olds all the time. I think we'll be looking for younger players, but with good potential for now and the future.

Lets just say, we won't be spending £15m on a 29 year old and give him £100,000 per week on a 4-year deal.

Ed I haven't heard what you thought of our performance against West Ham. Personally I thought it was nice to see players other than Gerrard and Torres scoring and setting up goals. Maybe the second half could have been better, but it was still good seeing us win comfortably.

Next week against Spurs should be interesting though! {ed's note - the first half was good, but it was very disappointing that we just settled for it in the second half and dropped deep again. But then home performances haven't been the real problem have they?}

Hi ed i think woy should play 442 every game we look alot sharper and can penetrate alot better i would also play babel every match up front with torres i really think they would scare any defence! i know babel gets alot of stick but i think he is a wasted talent if he leaves us in jan i think he will be a superstar for sum1! do you think woy should say to him ill give you from now until jan to prove your worth and start him? {ed's note - I would have let Babel go years ago, far too lazy and needs to apply himself better in training. I don't think he has done enough to deserve a shirt, he is letting us and himself down. I do agree on the 4-4-2 though, 1 up front is too negative, especially with the midfield and defence being so deep.}

Just reading what people are saying, and apparantly Taiwo is available for free in the Summer? This is good news for any club who are interested in him.

In all honesty, I think we should move for him. He's strong, quick and aint bad going forward either. Remember him at Anfield with Marseille, and we had a little trouble dealing with him going forward and he was like a rock at the back so I was impressed.

Whether we're interested or not, no-one knows. If we are, its debatable whether we make a move for him as early as January. We have Konchesky and Aurelio fit now, so we might as well make do and try get a good free transfer in the Summer.

Ps. I'd break the bank to buy Barry Bannan. Watch the lad, he's something special. He's got a passing range like Alonso but can also play intricate balls like Xavi. He doesn't mind getting stuck in as well. Did I mention he's only 20?

Ed? {ed's note - I fully agree on both players, Young is average and Bannan has tons of potential. Bannan's left foot is a bit special.}

I would break the bank for him but we don't need a cm. We need to look for the next poulson lol just kidding. He will be class soon. I'd say he will become the next nasri. If he was 1st team player a couple years ago then he might of been as good as fabregas. We don't need a cm though. We have Lucas whose only 22 and shelvy who is only 18 and has more potential if he gets games.

We all know we need a quality winger. But has anyone got any idea who? We're not gonna spend 20 million on mata. We need to be realistic. Most targets people mention are unrealistic or out of our price range. Only wingers I can think off are:
A Young-overrated and way to expensive
K Honda-he must be our main target come jan but he is a much better cam/ st
Payet-I haven't seen much of him. Not sure if he is good enough
N'zogbia- good player and should be the cheapest to get but has a poor attidude.
Mata- world class and would convince torres to stay but more likely a summer buy due to price
messi- not good enough. To lightweight.

anyothers? Ed you got any suggestions?

{Editor's Note: Sylvain Marveaux of Rennes - available cheaply in January or on a pre-contract for the summer when his contract runs out.}

Watching the B'burn v Villa match and have been watching Ashley Young very closely. I can safely say that he has to be one of the most overrated players in the prem. People touting him to be worth 20m + is ridiculous. He constantly loses the ball, has little strength and would add no natural width as (just like every 'winger' we have in our first team at the moment) he likes to drift inside. He's a gooby little s* te as well and spending that amount of money on him would be a complete waste. Why not use Amoo or Sterling on the wings. There's a reason he didn't make it in the provisional world cup squad, let alone actually going to SA.

Ps. I'd break the bank to buy Barry Bannan. Watch the lad, he's something special. He's got a passing range like Alonso but can also play intricate balls like Xavi. He doesn't mind getting stuck in as well. Did I mention he's only 20?

Liverpool No2 Sammy Lee says Dani Pacheco is on the fringes of a Premier League breakthrough.

The talented Spaniard hasn't featured in the first XI since the Carling Cup defeat by Northampton Town, but he looked more like his usual self when he produced an impressive display for the reserves against Blackpool at the Academy on Tuesday.

Lee told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Dani is working hard and he is a good lad who is willing to listen and hopefully his time will come.

"Consistency is the key for everybody. We are looking to get a consistent run of results together and that comes by consistent performances from everybody."

Pacheco has been utilised in a new role this season for the reserves playing on the left and right side of midfield.

Explaining the thinking behind changing his position, Lee added: "At the end of the day sometimes you have to play in a position that is not your natural one.

"You find out a lot of things about players when you play them in a different role. Dani has played in a number of different positions this season.

"He needs to improve, as do all of the players, and he needs to have more of an effect on the game. We have spoken with him about that and hopefully that will happen in the future."

roy use him against steaua this week before he leaves!

Schweinsteiger is out of our budget. HONDA wants arsenal? lets go for Turan and Mata. I believe strongly that we should not get players who openely state that they would prefer a certain team and when turned down approach lfc. We are a leading football club and only want players who are 100% sure they want to play for lfc. We have the history and the trophies to get the top players. True we haven't performed to our abilities, the same happened to barca some years back, it took a few years to build that side. Lets copy barca and find talented youngters and wait for a year or two to gel these players then we shall become a formidable side again.

In all honesty, like most say, I don't think we'll see tonnes of investment in January but I'd be happy with about two signings.

People are talking about needing a defender, but I'm relativly happy with what we have (for the time being). Aurelio, Konchesky, Agger, Kyrgiakos, Carragher, Skrtel, Kelly and Johnson. Two players per position. Obviously im not happy with the quality of two or three in there but we'll have to make do.

We should aim for a good winger, and a good striker. No mega-money spending, just good players worth their value in money who will improve us.

Everyone goes on about us only being 3 points off a CL place - we are in fact only 9 points off the title.
The only problem is that we have a manager who is far too negative away from home. We are already losing points away so why doesn't Hodgson realise that we have nothing to lose if we attack a litte more. Too many teams are no longer afraid of Liverpool and this has to be changed very quickly.

On the manager front i think this season is very difficult to read we have played terrible in the first 14 games and r still only 3 points off of 4th i generally think if we give roy the boot in jan and get a new manager and maybe a couple of signings then we can still push for the championship i honestly believe that but we need a new established centre half and a midfield creator and a link man for super torres i like ngog but he is better in torres position with pacheco with him but we need a peter beardsley type to play with torres because if u give him service he will score torres is brilliant at running off the shoulder so we just need a feeder player and i think we will be up there and we must sell j cole babel skrtel poulson konchesky and give carragher a break from first team action my god the man is at an age where he should play limited games and roy put wilson in or kelly these to boys r hungry for games

I thought he said that NESV were ready to release funds for a "world class" signing (as he described it) in the January transfer window. So from what I remember, yes, he did say it.

{Editor's Note: You are reading something in to what he said. "World Class" is a subjective term and I think you will find he clarified it by saying something along the lines of "if the price is right". Also, I expect the intention would be to find someone who may become world class.}

I went as normal yesterday and was satisfied with the first half and overall result.To be fair West Ham were really poor, as poor a team I have seen at Anfield, in a long time.Once again it is so hard to be happy with the 2nd half as entertainment goes.I know we have a lack of pace through the team, which seriously needs addressing, but we could have put 7 or 8 past this side. Instead our defence hardly came near the half way line. It will be a backs against the wall, Alamo style performance against Spurs, one I am not particularly looking forward to watching. Roy Hodgson plays defensive football period.Its so depressing.

Get stuffed! All the years Fergie has kicked up a stink about his players being injured playing in international friendlies, and everyone agrees. Roy says he is disappointed with Capello for going back on an agreement of only playing SG an hour (I wish he had said alot more) and nearly every paper slates us, and gives us the 'he's our player tonight' line.

According to the Guardian, Roy was right p* * d about Gerrard, but Stevey, being the class act he is, asked him to not make such a big deal about it. Unlike Ferguson, our players and manager don't act like children.

Is it possible Andy Carroll could become an important target man for LFC? In the mould of John Toshack , Andy Carroll is just as revelating at Premier League level as he has proved himself at Championship level .

He has pace , touch , good vision and passing ability allied with a great strike and finish .

A real classic , even dyanmic target man , could you see LFC employing a player like that in the near future ?

Considering Hodgosn has already signed 1 leftback , re-signed 1 leftback and may be forced to recall another leftback (Emiliano Insua) . Would the board allow him to sign another leftback again , this season ?

The 85, 495 reasons why Steven Gerrard's all ours on England nights!

I don't think anyone objects to him giving his all for his country, but to be kept on for 83mins in a meaning less friendly is ridiculous, especially knowing his history. I bet Capello and the rest of the Goon squad would have enough to say if Gerrard picked up an injury the night before a Euro qualifier by playing Bulldog or some other meaningless game at Melwood.

Once again another case of these carp journalists seeing Liverpool as easy meat and the chance of another cheap article

Good post earlier about the Spuds game. This will not only define our season but also Woy's tenure as our gaffer. Arry makes me laugh banging on about them winning the league, until he learns how to play certain games conservatively and grind out results then they will always lose games like yesterday as many times as they win them. They play wide open and Woy's negative tactics might actually work well against them. This league has definately dropped in standard over the last few seasons and the lesser teams can turn over the so called big boys on a much more regular basis. Makes things much more interesting for the neautral but with a few sensible additions to this squad and we are back amongst the elite. Spuds fans remind me of how we were about 23 years ago and will face the same disappointment we did! RED77

To call West Ham a team is a bit over the top. Yes we did what was needed and did it well.Credit due, it was good to see the team playing as if they wanted to win, but frankly WH do not look capable of taking a point from any EPL side on that performance.
Frankly I find it frustrating that every time we get a decent result people start backing RH when he has already proved beyond doubt that he is not the man for the job.

I think the next away game against spurs will be difficult but will define how our season is going to end. Remember we are more or less fighting spurs and city for 4th. We lost against city (away). We need to beat spurs at any cost to make a statement - that we belong!
And what makes this game for crucial is that it is followed by 6 games leading upto january 1st out of which 4 are at home-and the two other away games are at St James' Park and at blackpool-not the toughest of fixtures , somethin we can negotiate and grind out victories.
Hence if we win at spurs next week , we could be in a 8 match streak on Jan 1st and will be knocking at the doors of top 4.
I am optimistic even though every time hodgson disappoints with negative play-defensive play. But I think this season is all about grinding victories and not about how convincing they are.
What do you think ed ?
