I wish every bit of Ill luck on the mancs. I seriously hope they're next. More than likely. However, I wouldn't wish this upon the blues because I have mates and family who are blues. So it actually annoys me when I see blue noses laughing about it.

All - to coigne a phrase from Mr Broughton "keep the faith". We have been in the end game for days now and one way or another things will sort themselves.

Even though it's almost 3 months away the pre-transfer window hysteria has begun in earnest. Bouyed by the prospect of new owners taking the reins we are spouting-off about the likes of Aguero, Alonso, Banega, Xabi, Honda, Mitsubishi etc.
We maybe shouldn't expect the sugar-daddy approach from J.W.H. and, I for one, am glad. I would hate for us to turn into the Mersey Galacticos or Man. City with all of their overrated, overpaid bench-warming mercinaries.
A steady approach to buying and a ruthless approach to getting rid of our deadwood is what is needed. And we all appreciate how much dross we are paying wages to don't we. Let's give more chances to the likes of Shelvey, Wilson, Pacheco etc. but in a measured way e.g. NOT in high-pressured games where they could become overawed. Let's all agree that the players we consistently complain about should be got rid of (Babel, Poulsen, Skrtl, Jovanovic, Maxi, Lucas, Kuuyt, N'gog and several of the reserves are absolutely not good enough! !).
Of the above I'd only think about keeping Lucas and only then as an AM and only then as cover.
Trust me, John Henry is not a sheik and LFC will not be his plaything. He will maybe stump up £15-20m in January and allow the manager to spend what he re-coups in sales. If that happens then it will be fantastic providing Hodgson doesn't blow it all on Carlton "goal-machine Cole, Danny Murphy, SWP, Bridges, Sean Davis and all the other dross we've been linked with. There's absolutely no point replacing your old furniture with crap from a second-hand shop. I would much rather we only bought one or two top quality players than replacing like for like.
Sadly, Jamie Carragher is no longer a top defender and should be packed off to Lilleshall or wherever to get his coaching badges. On his return he could get used to warming the bench next to RH instead of continuing the comedy double-act with Martin Skrtl.
Glen Johnson is absolutely not, no way, no how a defender. At best he's a wide-mid but only squad-player standard and Joe Cole is at the very best a squad-player aswell. Chelsea realised this ages ago and we are a far better Club than them so let's start thinking like it instead of persisting with mediocrity! Jovanovic is a mercinary who wants away. Go then, your'e not up to our standards anyway! Anyone who Twitters, Tweets or whatever or complains to the press about being "unhappy" or anyone whose lifestyle doesn't fit with our wholesome traditions should also be packed off pronto!
I firmly believe that what's happening now shouldn't just be about who we buy in January or even about a new stadium. This is an ideal opportunity to re-mould the Club into what it once was and what we all want it to be in the future and that, my friends, is all about having the right attitude. Enough said!

To the arsenal fan who wished us best of luck. .thank you very much
We have been getting so much stick from so many fans lately. .but if united, arsenal or chelsea were in the same position i wouldn't want them to go down as the season would lose a bit of spice especially not playing united or everton!
I also hope to see leeds united back up in a few years to add to the rivalry!

Unbelievable. Tom Hicks is determined not to just become the most hated man in Liverpool but now the UK taxpayer population.

13 Oct 2010 22:36:58

Just hqving a quick look around, because the board aren't from texas and nor is the club based in the state, Tom Hicks' injunction isn't worth the paper it's printed on THE MAN IS DESPERATE, this will be solved quite quickly i think. .

I agree. . . . .

Since we are all dreaming of being managers on what is the 1st of many great days ahead for the reds check this out

Reina
Kelly Shawcross Agger Aurelio

Honda Gerrard Alonso Mata

Torres Aguero

Only 5 major buys! But if we had a spare 100 million lying around or even 60 after getting rid of the dead wood, it could be possible. well on a day when all our dreams have come true (rid of those b* tards) wy not.
What do you think Ed?
Aroc {ed's note - Alonso and Honda would be amazing, can always go for Banega if we can't get Xabi too.}

13 Oct 2010 21:59:39

Great news 2 day, im sure it won't be the last of h&g but that is for another day. i think dependant on results will depend on the transfer kitty in jan. i think if roy turns things around and we push on up the table, if and at the moment its a big if. . but if 4th is realistic then i think they will give him the funds to try and kick on. however ever if we are still struggling then i doubt if any funds wud be made available, just money from sales. this liverpool squad isn't as bad as whats being made out in the media, theres still enough ther to be in and around the top 5 at the end of the season, and if roy is off the pace i think they will look to keep all funds for a new manager in the summer! heard aquilani is doing the business at juventus, and bringing him back should be considerd. im expecting the wage bill to be slashed drastically, by getting rid of sum of the carp on the books. selling torres is not an option in my eyes as commercially he generates more than any transfer fee he wud command! get him fit and fireing he is the future of this club, he wants to win and we should applaud that and bring in players that share his expectations. bargain basement shud be in the past roy, no poulsens no more konchesky's etc.

Not a rumour really but some info. .my journalist contact (he is the chief writer for a big Sunday broadsheet) has been in email contact with our new prospective owner at NESV, John Henry, this week.

Apparently, he wouldn't discuss transfer money (as he admits he does not know much about the market. .he's honest at least!) and is totally open minded re the stadium.

My friend said that he has been very impressed with his honesty and integrity and said I should feel very positive that the club will be in the right hands.

Some reassurance for us all, I hope!

Ed could you explain what way the payments work. .NESV are offering 300, is that directly to H&G and NESV still has to service the debt. or. .is the loan included in the 300 and the two cowboys get the remainder of the money. .

{Editor's Note: The debts will be paid off and the owners will get the balance - all from the £300M.}

Lets hope this day leads to years of stability. We don't know a lot about John Henry, but surely he can't be as bad as H&G. I don't agree with all the money pouring into certain clubs and i would love football to go back to bygone days, but if that's what it takes, then so be it. You have to ask yourself why would a stranger, albeit a rich stranger, plough a fortune into an ailing football team thousands of miles from his base. It dosen't make sense.

Time for a little reflection here. I've not been too kind to the likes of Broughton and Purslow and i think some of us have gone way overboard with their praise of these guys. Freedom of the City? Do me a favour.

Broughton:

You cannot argue about the courage and conviction that this man has displayed in recent days. His business acumen cannot be in doubt and he will leave LFC with his head held high and his reputation as the slayer of H&G not only intact but greatly enhanced. However his overall reign was not a success. He clearly did not have the experience needed to be a high profile football Chairman. He allowed too much tension to build amongst the fans with little to no updates on the sale process. This generated gossip, rumours and the doom mongers to run amok. Which they did with some aplomb. His part time application to the job was also a serious issue with me.

Purslow:

This man was originally bought in to A) to provide the support and link between Rafa and the Board that was clearly missing and B) bring at least £100M of investment into the club by no later than Xmas 2009. There was the infamous meeting with S-o-S whereby Purslow refused to any further meetings and refused to ratify the minutes or supply a copy of his own. This disingenuous episode only served to rile S-o-S and led to them suspecting he was the enemy and sharing the same bed as H&G. Purslow failed in his first two objectives. He was responsible for the ousting of Benitez in very shady circumstances and he shared the same characteristics as Broughton, very little came out of his mouth to update the fans on the progress of the club. I believe he too, should be removed from the board in the new shake up.

S-o-S:

Never a big fan of this movement. I understand the need for them to be born because of the reckless actions of the owners, but they spawned into 1980 militant left wingers and completely forgot their focus and objectives. It was clear they did not have the majority of the fans vote but they had enough of a minority to cause issues. They used the fans to whip up a storm and created a vehicle in which the fans had an excuse to display their anger, hurt and resentment. That is when fans lost the plot. The burning of the American flag was wholly unacceptable and completely the wrong way to display their angst. I for one would not be voting for them to have a place on the board, not in this current format in any event.

So whilst I am congratulatory towards Broughton and Purslow in their current stance, I will not be too sad to see them leave.

I will not be jumping through hoops just yet either. Whilst not wanting to appear as Anti American, NESV hardly fill me with any confidence given the examples i have had shoved down my throat.

I await. My trust and respect towards them needs to be earned. Lets not make the same knee jerk reactions towards them and treat them as the saviours they clearly are not, not yet anyway. They need to work bloody hard for our trust and support. if they earn it, then the club can only benefit.

Sorry for the long rant.

Bob the Red

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Can't believe how much this applies right now! There is no better way to describe the Tom pricks and George gillette ownership saga!

I believe history will be kind to Rafa, and we will look back with very fond memories. he certainly belongs in the same room as the greats. You have to remember always that Rafa signed some s* te, but he was never allowed to take a big punt on a player the same way Che and the scum were. Torres remains our transfer record, and remains the only time we were able to compete with the richer clubs, and look what he did when he could?

Look at Shevchenko, and Veron. .just one mistake like that would have allowed the Scumedia to slaughter Benitez. that would have been his Liverpool career over. So while that gobsh1te Mourinho and baconface were allowed to spend north of 25m routinely, taking a massive punt every time, he was forced to spend his 25m on 3 or 4 players. I believe that it is not just the cash that they had, but it was the security that if their 28m player failed, they would still be secure that haunted Rafa most. I miss him tbh, he was a real Liverpool manager, a softly spoken gentleman, and I wish him all the best with Inter, although he is on a hiding to nothing there. If he wins the CL it will be Mourinho's team, if he loses, he will have somehow fkd up Mourinho's team. What a shame for the lad, what a gent he is.

13 Oct 2010 19:23:47

I agreed with the sacking of Rafa, but I felt he deserved the sack for the crazy decisions he made, not the amount of money he spent. It keeps being written in the papers that he spent over £200M, but it wasn't as if he was given the money in one lump, that £200M was all in dribs and drabs. Of course he would have rathered to have bought david Villa instead of Ngog, of course he would have rathered D.Silva over M.Gonzales. Everyone is comparing deals like £18M for Aquilani when we could have bought, say, Van der Vaart for £8M. The reason Aquilani was purchased was the terms Roma were willing to accept and that is staged payments, Rafa never had the total £18M. And unfortunately top players usually play for the top sides, and most top teams want the majority of the cash up front, which Rafa/ Liverpool were never able to do. Thats why I believe he signed the players he did.

I feel he deserved the boot for decisions such as, after coming back to 2-2 with Hull at Anfield, when chasing a goal for the win, bringing Lucas on instead of keane. Or when he took a fit Torres off against Birmingham and settled for the draw.
While I believe he truly did/ does love Liverpool I don't think he was quite the right manager to take us forward.

People are talking about bringing in a few faces from abroad, and more specifically North America and Asia. Well you can almost guarantee this to be true, although I wouldn't get too carried away with the names Honda or Donovan.

One thing I read is 'the left over money from Mascherano'. I don't like this - there is no such thing as left over money when you are hundreds of millions in debt.

New owners, new era, new budget.

I hate reading people's dream teams, so naming no names, we need;

One striker
DEDICATED wingers.
One defensive midfielder.
RB/ CB/ LB.

"I have heard that BIG THINGS will be happening at our mighty club. . .sheikh maktoum is gonna bid for us, the rumoured bid £400m with GUARANTEED £150M every summer AND £50M every winter. . I will for one be backing he's horses every time they run YNWA"

No he wont, as I have been saying for the past few months no Sheikh or organisation from Abu Dhabi, Dubia or Doha were interested in buying LFC, the Kuwait interest was the only one from that region, and that interest faded pretty quickly.

I cannot see the club being sold to anyone other than NESV, if the board change their mind there will be financial penalties which we cannot afford.

NESV WILL BE RATIFIED BY THE RECONSTITUTED BOARD AS THE NEW OWNERS/ CUSTODIANS OF LIVERPOOL. IT WILL BE OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED AT 1.30PM TOMORROW, BREAKFAST TIME ON THE EASTERN COAST OF THE USA.

"Fair point
But we where never in the bottom 3 under Rafa and Roy's new signings haven't been too clever we need some width and a striker so he jams the cm? "

I don't want Rafa back either he moved on so should we, but I find it ridiculous many people in here think that Roy is better than him, why? just because he is the current manager does n't make him the best? look at his record and just last year when he got Fulham to the Europa final, he failed miserably to get them to maintain their position in the PL.
Look at his signings and the people he replaced, why sign Aurelio and pay him wages when he has n't kicked a ball, why give insua away when you only replacing him with a weaker option (although it was very hard to find someone weaker than Insua), is Raul better than Aqua boy? and yeah Poulsen .
Then there is the tactics , so deep that Torres having to stay around our 18 to get the ball . .
everything else he is doing was straight out of Rafa's book .
Roy is a very very decent man, but . .

Forget kevin doyle, kevin davies, carlton cole they all don't score enough for me we need a goal machine, cavani is the answa, tall, good in the air and prolific plus woundnt be mor than 15m. mata, marin, turan or navas are the wingers we shud pik from, we need 2. for me its navas and mata, two quich spanish wingers who will hopfully aid torres need for 'quality players'. we also need a left bak, reto ziegler as he is young and attack minded aswell as a good defender. 5-7m

"13 Oct 2010 14:08:16

A bit of restraint needed boys. I for one will not be gushing over Broughton, Ayre and Purslow until I see a sale that benefits our club, progresses our need for the ground, and most importantly the acquisition of the badly needed players, that will bring us the on field success we crave. Good work so far in dealing with H & G, but other than that I view these three with critical eyes, and bear in mind that they do this for money and nothing else."

I agree with much of your sentiments about restraint, but your final sentence is unnecessarily harsh. We live in a capitalist society built around money. Do you think Gerrard, Reina and Torres would play simply for their love of the club? It's not like being paid automatically means the only reason a job was done to a decent degree was money. I've seen several posts on numerous sites, usually from those who'd previously been keen to demonise Purslow and Broughton (though i'm certainly not saying this is the motivation behind yours) eager to pour water on the thought that these men could possibly genuinely care for the plight of one of the most distinguished clubs in world football and want to be instrumental in putting it back on the right track. Taking a wage and caring for something are not mutually exclusive.

They are paid just like everyone else in the club has been, from Dalglish to the cleaners. They've remained dignified in the face of pointless attacks and constant conspiracy theories and deserve a bit of slack.

13 Oct 2010 18:13:20

Editor, you probably know more than most or at least more than me on inside knowledge on the club. Do you think there is any chance of Sheik Mohammed coming in with an 11th hour bid? I know you probably don't want it but do you think its got any possibility? If i were him i'd definately bid £350 million - that's a steal as far as i'm concerned. In my opinion i reckon we're worth £500 million for any serious long term buyer. What do you reckon in your opinion Editor? I'd be over the moon if it happened - not to sugar daddy us but to make us be able to match any bids for individual players on the market not just shop in smaller shops as such (Maxi, Poulsen, Jovanovic for example). At least match Spurs' shopping power. Editor / anyone? Your opinions by all means?
Cheers,
Irish Kev.

{Editor's Note: I don't think there is any chance of Sheikh Mohammed buying us at this time.}

Well its pretty straight forward one would think, sell the deadwood ie Ngog, Babel, Jovanavic bring in some width right and left then a striker who could support torres cheap alternative would be bent or c.cole maybe even crouch back?? one thing we do need is some stability points on the board will follow. . .things are looking up :) p.s well done to all the board fantastic outcome done liverpool fc and its fans proud!

I believe the NESV takeover is innement, i think if he is available we shud go 4 emmanuel adebayor to bolster our attack along with ashley young and get rid of a few deadwood such as babel, lucas etc.

Fingers crossed good times r on their way back to liverpool

In reply to: The yonks are most definately not out of the loop. They are still on the board, and will continue to be until a sale goes through. As such they will have a say in any offers on the table. Sure, they can be out-voted, but they will be involved. Also, some news sources are suggesting that, given the money tey stand to lose, H&G will make an application to the court of appeal. It's doubtful it will succeed, but it will slow things down.

Think you may be right, however I can't see the board changing there mind on the NESV deal and Hicks and Gillette are powerless as long as the english part of the board are unaminous in there decison. Any appeal may well slow things down but it won't be that long of an appeal due to RBS repayment issue and its now highly unlikley, with an agreed buyer, that adminstration will be enterd into even if the appeal takes it past the deadline. In terms of initial investment for the club it won't make that much of difference because players won't be able to be bought until january anyway and any appeal will be dealt with by then and Id expect us to win that appeal unless new evidence of misconduct is found.

In terms of lifitng the doom and gloom, hopefully they'l be a rejuvinated feel amongst us fans at the games and around the club in general, which will hopefully lift moral at a playing level and supporting level.

I think John henry will expect to have to earn our affections and will forgive us for being wary of any new buyer after what we have been through and I doubt he would have even bought the club if he was not serious about building and owning a sucessfull team especially after seeing the result of breaking promises to LFC supporters. The UK doesn't have a lot of sports and the ones it does have play second fiddle to Football, so its no wonder we get fanatical about it. Anyone who wants to buy a UK football team in the future will certainly consider what will happen if it goes wrong and that will be down to a set of dedicated suppoters known as Liverpool Fans. PS even the founder of, what will be no doubt the biggest football gossip site in the world one day, is a Red. I wonder weather they will do a "social network" style movie about him. . . . . .

Purslow was not liked by SOS, because he would not agree to accurate minutes of his meeting with SOS being issued, and denied saying certain things he had said. On reflection he lied about saying these things, to save his position, and perhaps ultimately assist in saving the club. But he did LIE. No doubt, hence the distrust. As for him staying on, well the man may have the clubs best interests at heart, but as the man responsible for a 7% increase in ticket prices and appointing the nightmare that is Roy hodgson, I for one want CP to leave, and for us to appoint a MD who understands football administration, and who is respectful to our fan base.

Regarding this post:
With the deal looking set to be signed very soon for nesv to become the new owners of LFC they will look to bring in new players in January that can brand LFC on a world wide scale. . the first 2 signings wil b Honda to attack the far east and a shock move for the ex-everton player Landon donavan, they feel this buy would be great to get LFC on there way in the states with currently being miles behind MUFC and Chelsea! Roy will also look to off-load some of the dross and with the money from that and the left overs of the Macsh deal to barca he will look to bring in new experienced talent with also bringing through the youth! expect Glen Johnson to be the first the leave to spain with a reported £10M offer being made from a couple of teams! info coming from both a high member of the NESV regarding the honda and donovan deals and also a highly respected ex-liverpool player who has his ear to the ground regarding glen johnson
YNWA

Honda would be great but I do not want Landon Donavon. He offers very little in my opinion. He is a bit like Joe Cole but without all the skill that makes Joe so hard to stop. No pace to speak of. I am an american and am absolutely sick of people over here talking about Donavon in the same breath as Gerrard, Torres, Ronaldo, Messi, and Rooney. Please do not start doing that on here.

13 Oct 2010 16:54:19

Ed- do you seriously think a fan buyout will/ could ever happen?. i for one hope not. There would be thousands of fans all wanting something different, a vote on this a vote on that, some militant member of SOS wanting to be chairman who wants to ban anyone who has voted for any party other than labour entering Anfield and be even more of an embarrassment than they are now. NESV are surely the only bid that any reds fan must want?. They are a group of wealthy businessmen who enjoy sports and combined wealth is approx 10 times that of Lim. As for the finance company, well the intention is surely in what the label says, pure profit from investment. And folks, lets remember. Rafa may have been a geninuine guy, but this was the bloke who wanted to offload Alonso to make funds available for Barry. That 1 decision set us back years. We have stevie, nando, pepe, johnson(right midfield), agger, mereiles, kelly, pacheco, and a few youth team players on the way through. The rest aint good enough, simple.
{Editors' note - In my opinion it is very unlikely it will will ever happen for big clubs. Plus some would not be fans and buy shares and they would have to be payed dividends}

13 Oct 2010 16:53:06

ROY set to take £3m payoff with no hard feelings as he has done a great job in keeping the presure off the board as they try to sell the club, and was never along term BOSS.
KING KENNY ready to step in on a 5 YEAR DEAL.
He was always going return but only under new owners and new money, KK has a number of players he wants in JAN, and has been working along side ROY to get them.GOMEZ HONDA and MATA are just the start of this new era.So whats next for ROY

Just a quick post for all those starting the 'Rafa back' comments.

Ask yourself this. . . .How many times did we play to win under him? We were difficult to play against and always seemed to try and stop the other team playing before anything else. Then with the quality players we had we would nearly always score at least once per match.

I think the only time we looked good was for the last 3 months of the season we finished 2nd. It was like the team was finally unleashed. However, the damage had already been done with too many draws a a few losses that could easily have been avoided with the same positive play used in those final 3 months.

Alonso was the fulcrum of the team by that time and he allowed Gerrard to do his stuff and between the two of them Torres became deadly.

Once Alonso was gone, we lost a lot of what the team was built to be like.

I am at a total loss - how the hell can anybody defend Benitez - Hicks and Gillett had to go without a doubt - but if the Spaniard had spent the large amount of money he was given properly and we'd got the success the money he spent should have got, would there have been a campaign to get rid of the Americans.
I've watched Liverpool in the second division and seen the bad, good, great and amazing times with this club, and hopefully we can now start playing good football again, not the boring zonal marking s* te Benitez brought us.

Hodgson to be the new England manager if Capello is removed? Possibility within the next month.
Capello to leave by mutual consent with a big pay off.
Hodgson to take over and leave Liverpool by mutual consent understanding the new owners want their manager in place, for them to release to him a transfer budget.
Liverpool to step up the search for a new manager. Kenny to take temporary charge.

13 Oct 2010 16:35:46
Is mr Broughton to stay on as chairman or was it just a temporary thing until the club was sold.I for one would like him to stay and i am sure it won't be long before we convert him into a liverpudlian.Looks like a decent addition to our new look club.

13 Oct 2010 16:34:19

Have not posted for a while, just observed.
In response to the below post, like a lot of the media and some fans, you all seem to have a very short memory. In my opinion Benitez did really well having about 10m - 15m to spend most transfer windows which is considerably less spurs and city have spent recently. The team he inherited was less valuable than the current side just had more confidence and was already gelled together. Please remember LFC was rated as the No 1 seed in Europe having got to the final twice in 3 years and been in a semi and a quarter to boot. We were feared in Europe thanks to wins against Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and hammering Porto and Marsaille etc. Do you think City or Spurs will be so successful in the next 5 years? Rafa for the most part spent wisely and created a team that came second in the EPL and scored more goals (in the all competitions) than any other English side. With a bit more luck LFC would have finished 1st. That season we played and won a lot of games without Gerrard and Torres and it appeared we would push on the following year and progress but we do not. It ended up being Rafa's final year he made a fatal error in not replacing Alonso with proven uninjured quality and that is the last memory unfortunately many will have. He did not intentionally leave behind a squad that is just not good enough. Ownership and transfer policy problems resulted in a sell to buy transfer policy. If you want to stay in the top 4 you need to spend in every window (when needed) and to not do so and to employ such a risky policy as sell to buy was a massive gamble. Rafa's hands were tied for 2-3 windows and due to the board room and transfer policy in place he failed to improve the squad with proven quality and strength in depth and in his FINAL SEASON he had to gamble on Aquilani coming good and having confidence in the rest of the team to make up for the loss of Alonso in the interim. The injuries did not help either and lack of confidence and fans going quiet at Anfield added to the lacklustre performances. Rafa pulled many many rabbits out of the hat but this was too much. I just would like fans to remember that despite his last season Rafa did create a Liverpool side that were masters of possession, had a quality counter attack (that won many away games), played high tempo and were high scoring and had an incredible work rate (remember the quote "they were like Duracell bunnies they just kept going") that grinded teams down. The end was bad i agree but he should be remembered foremost for the great team that he created (up until Alonso left! ).
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Absolutely spot on poster.

Many fans seem to have forgot or cannot appreciate what Rafa did for the club. As you rightly said he made us the No 1 team in europe, which people could only dream of when he took over.

I would have him back tomorrow!

Fabian Treezle

Rafa loves Liverpool and he let us know just what was going on. I know we must move forward but I would sooner have Rafa over Roy. There have been a few posts about Alonso coming back which we would love to see, I would love to see Rafa back with some proper support and as he said stability for the club.

To the prat that felt so strongly about the subject he capitalised it all, what are you on? He is a pathetic right back.! In case you didn't know he is supposed to be able to defend as well as go forward, unfortunately he isn't good at either.

I recently returned from holiday in Southern Spain and it was reported in local press that Malaga may bid for Glen Johnson in January. Malaga have recently been taken over by a very wealthy Qatari who wants them to challenge for a Champions League place because Valencia, Ath.Madrid and other challenges to third and fourth in Spain are massively in debt. They think this is possible with some big signings of experienced international players in January. It was reported malaga were willing to pay around 17m euros for Johnson.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Take that immediately. The guy is a liability, he needs to go.

Everyone keeps going on about how Liverpool need to get a new striker. Well, we need a whole new defence first.

Johnson (liability), Carra (too old, too slow), Skrtel (always in the wrong position), Agger (always injured. .but good when fit), Konchesky (pretty good but age isn't on his side)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Maybe this is why Johnson has reportedly started learning Spanish. The lower income tax on his 100k euros a week wages in Spain may also be a factor that he may find more attractive than England. Is he a mecenary?

13 Oct 2010 16:27:32

Rafa benitez has a good time at liverpool up until last year he delivered trophies and got our team upto 2nd in the league his last year wasnt his best as he didn't replaced what he sold but other than that year he was quite a good coach tbh

Time for us fans to pull together. We have shown the world that we are the greatest supporters of a professional sports team ever. I agree with SOS needing to apologise to CP. But the last 3 years has seen our passionate supporters band together be it SOS or SL or whomever. If we got one identity and formed a supporters union that had a majority voice of the fans on the board of LFC w/ the new board and also we has a supporters central fund generated by say 100 pounds per annum x 100,000 members = 10mill. By the time the new stadium was build we get as a group the naming rights i.e. Shankly Stadium. 10 year deal x 10 mill a year= 100mill pounds for the club. Aldo could serve as our spokesman. Could we do something like this that keeps us with a voice and helps our team at the same time. 2007-2010 should never happen again. What do you think ED?

Ed please stop me when im wrong. who ever lost today they were always going to appeal, more out of desperation than anything else. i personlay hope NESV take over, but i read on bbc teletext (not sure how reliable that is) that there will be a boardmeeting to take about the offers they had on the table, im assuming they mean just the 2 they have. now onto football matters our next games,
everton, napoli, blackburn, napoli and bolton (i think in that order). for me we should look to win every game but liverpool can't loose to any of these teams if they do loose then maybe roy should be off. people also need to stop posting a huge list of names saying we need them in jan. i would be happy with a proven english striker i.e davies or hopefully bent. and 1 or 2 wingers if we got to then only 1 of them should be young we need players that have been around the block abit, not future prospects.
ed any thoughts, i know am going on abit

I completely agree with this. I personally found it disgusting that CP was abused in the manner that he was.

I respect his professionalism, dedication and dignity in the face of the shameful protestations against him.

SOS haven't covered themselves in glory with this one, in my opinion.

If NESV's bid is 300m and peter lim is 320m, if peter lims is accepted, who gets the extra 20m?? H&G or the club??

{Editor's Note: Hicks and Gillett - all monies go to Hicks and Gillett after debts have been paid.}

13 Oct 2010 15:21:46
How ironic that Hicks and Gillett lose a Court battle claiming that the club have not picked the best offer. The club many months ago stated that the best bid would not necessarily be the the bid offering the most money.

Moores/ Parry you listening?? ?? ?? ? So as Hicks and Gillett have now discovered the highest bid isn't the best bid and by God haven't we discovered that the highest bid isn't the best bid?

So the moral of this story is. .'what comes around, goes around'. Oh and just a little word or two to Hicks and Gillett "See ya!"

Whilst enjoying such an euphoric day as this. can i please get something off my chest. .is just me or did anyone else see the comments by a certain thunderbird puppet known as harry redknapp. In an interview he states. and i paraphrase " I have the utmost sympathy for reds owners george and tom. All they seem to have done wrong is plough a fortune into the place and stand to lose a fortune when they sell it"

I am speechless. i don't know where to begin. whilst i realise that not every ill that is marring our club can be laid at george and toms door. the players have to shoulder some responsibility as well, we can still leave a mountain outside their door.

Listen carefully harry. it was the owners who borrowed huge sums of money using the club as surety against the debts, it was the owners who promised a "spade in the ground. it was the owners who displayed an astounding arrogance in their dealings with . well. almost everyone.

I am sorry that harry felt such sympathy for the departing owners. but with harrys track record of financial dealings maybe its not too suprising. think of a club that was better off after he left than when he arrived. bournemouth, west ham, portsmouth, southampton, portsmouth again. none of them shining lights after our harry worked his "magic"

Lets not forget the alledged investigations into financial dealings, his arrest, his house raided. not that i am saying any of this is true. heaven forbid. However it would appear that harry and the americans are well suited to each other.

Former Liverpool and current Inter Milan manager Rafael Benitez has expressed his delight that the takeover from NESV can now finally be complete and has indicated that the move should allow the club to become stable.

"Today I am so happy for the people of Liverpool, finally the club can move forward and get stability, " the Inter Milan boss said.
wat do u say about this Ed.? i still think he loves sumwer deep down his heart. {ed's note - there is no question Rafa loves Liverpool, the city, the team and the people.}

The end was bad i agree but he should be remembered foremost for the great team that he created (up until Alonso left! ).

Absolutely spot on poster.

Many fans seem to have forgot or cannot appreciate what Rafa did for the club. As you rightly said he made us the No 1 team in europe, which people could only dream of when he took over.

I would have him back tomorrow!

33 miners rescued today after spending 3 months underground trapped 2300ft underground.As a God fearing man i am delighted and joyful that these hard working husbands/ fathers and providers are safe and well. In other breaking news thousand of Liverpool FC fans were also rescued today after spending 43 months at the hands of their kidnappers H&G. They were all lured in with the offer of spades in the ground within 6 months and millions of pounds to spend on football players. Once trapped the kidnappers reneged on their promises and even started in house fighting with eachother. In true James Bond fashion, MB007 came into the picture last April and promised he would deliver freedom to the Kopites. He delivered on 13/ 10/ 1010.

What happend to dic ?
He went to manage Inter

For shame! There will come a time when we will all wish he had never left.I know this is off topic, but I feel that everyone seems to overwhelmingly blame H&G for the trouble LFC is in right now. But, aren't there two distinct problems we have to solve? There's the ownership issue and there's the product on the field. Let's face it, if Benitez had done a half decent job with the funds he has had we'd only have one of the two problems to torment us! I do have a life, just like everyone else who posts on this site, but I have been infuriated with Rafa ever since the Alonso debacle. Make no mistake about it, once Alonso was made to feel Gareth Barry (! !) would be preferred to him, he had to go. But to this day, I can't understand why we did not raid Real Madrid when they were desperate for Alonso. Did they not make the entire Dutch contingency available? Was a still unproven (despite a great season they we're not sold on him) Higuain not available? Did Rafa even try to get bodies in return? At that time I was convinced that either Sneijder, VdVaart and certainly Higuain were

As a first time poster, albeit having read this site for quite some considerable time, may i congratulate the ed's for their sterling work throughout this whole mess.
Thanks also to the mighty three who have stood up to considerable pressure from those warm and much beloved americans! !
Although i presume there is still some way to go I can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel and look forward to the days of glory returning. As someone who remembers Roger Hunt, Chris Lawlwer etc (yes i am that old) it was just so sad to see a once mighty team slump to its knees by greed and manipulation.
I think we do have to be somewhat realistic though. yes i look forward to good times ahead, but i think this will be a transitional season. and i look forward to some much needed changes in playing staff. we have time now. we know we can go forward.

Guardian Blog is spot on - you have to turn it on.

H&G tried to put an injunction on the board - this has been thrown out.

Broughton has been heroic in this - he had the best interests of the club at heart. I never criticised any of the board - I couldn't understand why fans were looking for details of an ongoing process which by its very nature had to be secret

Please don't tell me that this is the level of intelligence of all liverpool fans. . . "he had the best interests of the club at heart". . . Yeah that's right he's payed all the money he is for being a man that is at the top of his game by NOT doing what is best for his employer. The Bank. . . yes your correct there is no such thing as greed and wealth obsession and there are no such things as company's (banks mainly) taking advantage of any business opportunity to turn a profit while missleading everyone else using multi million pound media engines. .

GET REAL!

his employer is the bank. . and the reason he was employed was so that he could pay the lip service (that idiots like you so readily believe) to the fans ensuring maximum profits from season ticket sales, merchandicing etc while selling of our asssets while none of you raise an eyebrow. .

An in regards to our new owners. . think your all in for a shock when you eventually learn the truth. . we are going to be worse off. .

But chin up maybe the tooth fairy and santa claus will buy the club in a couple of years after the new owners have sold of torres etc (with the idiot fans backing as being to lazy etc) and restore us to the glory days. . .

After january transfer window. we should try to adopt a 433 system.

SELL Johnson, Poulsen, Kuyt, Babel, Lucas, Aquilani, Skrtel, Jovanovic. will get 35M atleast in selling all these.

Possible transfer targets during window: striker/ winger - MATA defensive midfielder: BANEGA plus KEISUKE HONDA - talented in several positions.

And Roy Hodgson start using Pacheco, Suso and Shelvey 3 hugely promising talents!

Midfield: Meireles Gerrard Banega/ Honda
Strikers: Cole Torres Mata

Ed what do you think of new formation? {ed's note - it is ok I guess, I don't really see that the formation matters so long as it suits the players.}

in response to this i believe you would get a lot more than 35m for all the players stated

OUTS

johnson-10m
kuyt-10m
poulson-4m
babel-9m
jovanovic-7m
aqualani-15m
skrtel-8m
lucas-8m
TOTAL- 71mill

INS

honda-13m
benega-15m
mata-18m
gibbs-8m/ taiwo-7m
llorente-13-15m
cahill-15m
TOTAL-84M ish

and then a really good rb don't no who then we would line up
. . . . . . . . . reina. . . . . . . . . .

? . . . cahill. . . agger. . . . .gibbs

honda. . gerrard. .meireles. . mata

. . . . torres. . .llorente

well that would be a team able to challenge for top honours providing torres stays fit

13 Oct 2010 09:44:49

It emerged last night that John W Henry will demand tens of millions of pounds if the deal is not rubber-stamped by the Liverpool board. NESV insisted that it would defend its deal with the club and could sue for "tens of millions in damages" should it collapse through administration, the board deciding to sell to another bidder, or Hicks and Gillette being granted an injunction to prevent the sale.
"These could result in very substantial damages running into tens of millions of pounds, " said David Chivers QC, acting for NESV.
Hardly the sort of utterances we need to hear from our possible new owners, looking to sue the club before they even get to own it. It casts John Henry's takeover in a bad light before they even begin to run our club. Let us hope that they are not another hard-balled owner of Liverpool FC who are out to make a fast buck on our club.
In any event, it is believed that the Liverpool board sanctioned the approval of their bid last week and that contracts may have been signed with NESV for the sale of the club. Things are changing minute by minute so I really don't know whats going to happen next.
Nice to see RBS respond to our email campaigns to get rid of Hicks & Gillette.

{Editor's Note: There will be penalty clauses associated with either side backing out of the agreement - so this seems to a certain extent to be scaremongering or someone responding to a loaded question. I would not worry too much about it at this time.}

Morning All. D-Day today.
Let's hope all is resolved and NESV complete the takeover. I don't know about you but this Peter Lim guy, I don't know him or anything about him, but to come out and say that he would give Roy £40m to spend in January strikes me as stupid move, and a move that will inflate our targets prices dramatically should he be succesful (in reality i don't think so because NESV have an agreement in place and I don't think they will pass on that opportunity even if we were deducted 9 points). It shows Lim has no experience or trading ability in this field at all, to show your cards like that is plain stupidity. I always prefered the Liverpool way, nobody knew how much we had to spend but we always got the really good players onboard.

ED, Have NESV said they will give us a transfer budget if they takeover the club? If so then how much have they promised?

{Editor's Note: Transfer budgets are a misnomer for most clubs. The manager or coach is not allocated a fixed amount of money. He will know broadly what he may spend and will have to make a case to the board for each player he would like to have the club approach. This is how NESV will handle transfers.}

Morning Ed
So what's your gut feeling on the takeover issueafter hearing the bits n pieces from the court case yesterday? Will NESV be our new owners?

RedDan

{Editor's Note: I hope so - I think they have a better than even chance of winning eventually.}

If rbs win today then nesv takeover which is great news for us fans.
but what if the cowboys win will that mean the agreement that is already in place between the rest of the board and nesv is worthless?
could you shed any light please ed ?

{Editor's Note: If RBS win today and Hicks & Gillett are unable to repay the loans that fall due on Friday (possibly within a two week period of grace), then the sale to NESV will go through. If not, everything depends on the repayment of the loans. If they are not repaid I would expect the sale to NESV to go through in any case. If they are repaid, then H&G will decide who they wish to sell to - or hang on for a better deal yet.}

Posted this earlier, but looks like I need to post again.

Anyone considering that Lim may be better because of the money no longer has a right to accuse David Moores of any wrong doing - take a good look at yourselves, and shame on you - LIVERPRES

I have to agree in full with this statement. We seem to be a little naive and misguided when it comes to certain aspects of finance. We have known for a long time now that Hicks and Gillette are only looking for a pay day. The loyal fan base guarantees that. That the fans love and treasure their club so much, they cannot understand how David Moores could have sold the club out for a few million more. What I want to know is that why were the fans unwilling to put their money where their mouths are. I would like to assume that a club like ours would have a following of at least six million grown adults. At a hundred pounds each Hicks and Gillette would presumably happily walk away with six hundred million pounds. I never saw this eventuate. Most fans would say that they would never want to see the two Americans walk away with profits. If that is the case, stop pointing the finger at Moores, stop accusing players of disloyalty. We should take a long, hard look at ourselves. At least this was attempted at Old Trafford. I am not here to belittle our fans, to play up the ones at United or to provide justification for Moores, Hicks or Gillette. What I am saying is that the almighty dollar or pound determines a lot of our thoughts and actions, Moores', Hicks' and our's.

The new bids should be ignored. They are irrelevant. Mr Justice Floyd is there to judge if H&G acted illegally in trying to remove Board members before the decion was taken on the NESV deal. If he decides that he did and was in breach of his contract with RBS ( which his lawyer admitted he was yesterday) then the Board would have to be reconstituted and the decision taken re NESV must stand. Floyd is no mug and is also a very fair Judge. I believe that he will decide in RBSs favour and we should all send him Xmas cards this year to thank him.

The two bids have come in too late to affect that in my view. Besides, neither would be a good owner in my view. Lim has no track record and is a ManU fan whils being owned by a hedge fund would be a disaster! They are ONLY interested in profit at all costs. Probably worse than H&G in all respects. Here is to 10.30 ish!

When those greedy, leeching yonks lose the court case today and get sent packing, I really hope we send LIM in the same direction. He had his chance to bid for the club, along with everybody else. At the last minute he tries his upmost to throw a spanner in the works.

Ed what happened to kuyt and agger are their injuries serious

{Editor's Note: Kut should be ready for either Sunderland or former club Utrecht. I have no news on Agger at present, but I don't think it is too bad.}

If RBS win tomorrow H&G will lodge an Appeal. If H&G win, RBS wil lodge an Appeal. Either way, there will be a further Hearing late this week or early next. As soon as an Appeal is lodged, expect H&G to get an Injunction blocking RBS from foreclosure until after the Appeal is heard.

We're at half-time and it's still all to play for.

Mr RED LENIN i like those odds, If in Istanbul we can be at half time with the whole world under the conclusion its game over and still prove to be the most passionate, loyal entity on the planet, then half time with all to play for, ill beleive liverpool can do it .

Like the great 1 once said: Football is as simple as pass & move, So Mr hicks pass the keys to NESV and move away from Liverpool.

At that time I was convinced that either Sneijder, VdVaart and certainly Higuain were Anfield bound. It was a no-brainer. . and it never happened. Today, these players are rated so highly that we could not afford them even if we were taken over by NESV. Even if these players had flopped at Liverpool, it could not have been as bad as the Aquilani fiasco. To this day, I still don't know whether the boy can play or not. Rafa certainly did not want Aquilani to play before he was fit enough to contribute. I guess that's why he never used him, to protect the player! As bad as H&G were, Rafa was far worse. I know he took us twice to the CL final (I'll never forget 2005), but he also left a squad behind that is just not good enough to compete at any level with consistency. Mourhino has been fired once and jumped ship another and managers are still riding his wave of success after he's left the clubs. No matter what tomorrow's outcome may be, the real battle is on the field at that one is far from won. YNWA!

A Singapore billionaire by the name of Peter Lim has jumped in with a bid of 230 million pounds to buy Liverpool Football Club and all its liabilities.

Peter Lim Eng Hock (born 1953) is a Singapore billionaire, rated No.8 in 2010 Forbes Singapore rich list with an estimated fortune of $1.6bn.

The son of a fishmonger, Peter Lim was educated at the Raffles Institution and obtained a degree in accountancy at the University of Western Australia. Lim became a stockbroker for mainly Indonesian clients. His successful returns earned him the nickname "Remisier King" (Singapore term for stockbroker).

In 1996, he became a fulltime investor, investing $10 million in palm oil producer Wilmar International, now valued at $700 million. Lim is also the second-largest investor in fashion distributor FJ Benjamin. He then invested in logistics and the agri-business.

Lim owns a series of Manchester United F.C. themed bars and clubs in Asia, which led to him bidding to take ownership of Liverpool F.C. in 2010, to expand the brand in Asia.

Lim, an avid sports fan, has set up a $10 million scholarship under the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF) to nurture local sports talents in 2010. He is known to be a supporter of Singapore football. Singapore's Sunday Times described him as "publicity shy" and supporting education without seeking the spotlight, having worked as a cabby, a cook and a waiter during his university days.

He is real deal, even more so than kenny haung. He has money to burn and lfc will do well with him

Gerrard should retire international footbal

Its time for Our Captin to put lfc before country. He is too old to play at international level and won't see another world cup. Its time to let younger people have international fan and stay at home with carra.

Ed what do you think of new formation? {ed's note - it is ok I guess, I don't really see that the formation matters so long as it suits the players.}
