Be a supporter. We need to start Sturridge and Suarez and borini. They need to gel. They need to get used to one another's tendencies. Against the you could see the opportunities were there but the spacing was off. Have faith. We could have easily nixed the game at the end. YNWA.

Don't know if its just me but it looks like Lucas playes a lot better without Allen, I have supported Allen all season, but he just didn't do it for me today, at this moment in time I would like a Stevie/Hendo/Lucas midfield and then Allen to be brought on for Hendo if we are winning to for the last 20minutes or so. And slowly build his confidence and fitness up. HullRED

Conversely, Allen plays much better without Lucas as well.

Do you really think BR will drop his love child

We would essentially need a 6 game win streak to even challenge for fourth place.. Is it safe to say those hopes have come and gone? Me thinks..

I gave up on 4th spot back at the end of August
I really don't understand why people are surprised by today's result .. we played better than expected and kept it close till the end ..

Stirling needs more protection, he is one for the future and a great for talent for Liverpool. But he needs
sensible managment, he needs to be dropped more often and used more effectivly. Supporters should lay off him. Rogers' tactics lost the game today.

If he's good enough and old eenough to be earning 30grand a week. He's old enough to take some criticism. He was very poor!

Your wanting him to play like a man aren't you

Lyndon

BR needs to stop being up the backside of certain players...Gerrard can make him roll over and tickle his belly....he could put a biscuit on his nose and tell him to leave it...its pathetic!

13 Jan 2013 21:53:06
Why the bashing of joe allen??yes he was poor, but why focus most of your criticism on him

Its like you didn't notice how wisdom gave too much time for evra to pick out rvp, or how skrtel was at fault for the second goal, even reina could have done a better job with the header .you didn't notice lucas also not haviing a good game or how suarez gave the ball away cheaply most of the game and had one shot on target. even johnson wasn't good enough!

I am not a fan of rodgers, but give allen a break he was poor so was most of the team

PACMAN

Big fan of Allen but recently he has been poor, gives the ball away and so does downing.. Henderson is not good enough. Shelvey is better than all of them but still not ideal. Rodgers needs to go 4-4-2 . Sturridge Suarez. We lack width!!

Aldos tash

13 Jan 2013 23:46:21
Pacman it seems you don't know anything about footy we play with 3 midfields if one is weak then it effects the full team. It becomes very, very easy for teams to run through us and that exposes our deffenders coz there is no cover for them at the sametime it effects our attacking players again coz there is no any support from midfield. Big problem is we can't play lucas and Allen togeather coz they don't have pace or neither helps attacking. Once you play 3 in midfield you need players with a lot of pace who can attack at the sametime deffend. Neither lucas or Allen have energy or work rate which is needed to survive for 90 minutes.

Ian ayres latest comments make no sense to me personally. He says we're not in for sniejder ( an absolutely world class player, proven at every level he's played and he's played at the very top.) however even though he says that he also says we have the funds to get anybody we want. It's on iPhone app now. I'm quite bewildered as to what's going through people's minds at the minute if we don't go for this guy. Just shows a complete lack of ambition by the club. Any thoughts on any of that eds ?

JakeLFC {Ed001's Note - I don't see how it shows that at all. He is a ludicrously overpaid, prima donna, who is moved on from club after club under a cloud. I just wonder why on earth anyone would want him at the club?}

He didn't turn many head in Spain. Big success in Italy but that does not mean he would be in the prem now does it and at 28 he will not be afforded the time to settle in.

KUNBER

14 Jan 2013 00:24:46
Jake mate it doesn't matter what ian ayre says coz its up to Rodgers to Choose players. The question is does Rodgers want sneijder? Owners have always said if a player can make huge difference then money will be no problem its up to Rodgers to convince them. A lot of fans have misunderstood our owners and say they are cutting wages or don't want to buy quality. The problem is they are cutting wages of players who don't perform/deserve their wages at the sametime are ready to pay wages for players who deserve or can make difference eg Suarez from 40k to 120k now. As I said is up to Rodgers to convince them.

Hi Eds haven't posted in a while

Interested to hear Ed001s view of the united match
Especially the team picked

Many are saying Hendo over Allen which I would agree with, but there's also a debate of whether Lucas and Gerrard can play together while Lucas is recovering

For me I think at the moment Lucas Gerrard and Henderson is our best midfield as Hendos stamina and legwork as well as developing passing and confidence makes up for Lucas recovery workrate and Gerrards declining fitness

However I remember earlier in the season you said something which was so true in my eyes, that 60 mins of 100% Gerrard would be much better than 90 mins of 70% Gerrard

Interested to hear thoughts

Thanks

Mac {Ed001's Note - it was a poor start, but I think that was down to everyone being poor, they started sloppy and it spread. The passing needed to be quicker. What we got was a player receiving the ball, looking at a good option, then looking round for another option, dithering, then passing to the original option, who was now closed down because he took so long. Just make the first open pass, make the opposition chase the ball, then worry about getting it into dangerous areas when the spaces open from them chasing round. I don't think it mattered who was in the midfield 3, it was more about the 2 widemen not offering good options or width or penetration today. Sterling and Downing had an off game and it closed spaces down and stopped the full backs getting much open space. If we can just pass at a higher tempo, they don't have to work harder to create more chances.}

Eds explanation is correct, it shows when tiki taka goes awry, and players do not know how to adjust.

Bad result today, but on the face of it, Man Utd are comfortably leading the title race. They are the yardstick at the moment and we were not that far away.
For those trying to tell me what a rubbish team Man Utd are, know your history.
The best Man Utd team in Premier league history had 50 points from 20 games. This season they have 55 from 22. In terms of results, this Man Utd team is one of the best from the last 20 years.
The result today is poor, but not on the scale of the Villa debacle.
The grand plan for the team is on track. A group of early 20's players all growing and maturing together a la Barcelona. Results will take time, forget this season. It's all part of the learning curve.
The foundations are being laid for a more long term success.

M.Aurelius

The ''result'' today was poor because on the whole, the performance was good. If you check the ''Opta-Stats'', you will see that we ''out-performed'' Man you in all areas but goals scored, ariel challenges won and crosses into the box. This was a game we could have won so yes, a bad result today !! =====================
What we have is nothing like Barcelona. They always mixed exceptional experienced players with their youth ..during their (what simpletons call re-building) period they won the champions league and few spanish cups ..
As for the ludicrous statement "Forget this season" I honestly don't think the owners will ever look at it this way, the owners expect champions league, may accept a European place of some sort, any less than that, then I am afraid this foundation you are talking about will need to be laid by someone else .. Do you think Rodgers can forget about this season's salary, and instead treat it as free education part of his learning curve ..

I think today we lost to a decent united team, people on here complaining about the performance of our players, to me we played well, yes players lost the ball dwelt on it, passing was bad etc etc, but we 've been doing this for most of the season, the difference today we played against a side who punished us by one flash of genius and a very very lucky goal which should 've been offside, anyone that blame Reina for the second goal have obviously never played football, it was deflected and very little he can do about it.
I like the way Sturridge came on and changed the game, I like the way he followed on from Gerrards shot, can't remember the last time or player chased a loose ball inside the box and capitalised on it .. I hope he keeps this up, if he does he will score more goals than Suarez.

Roy

Personally I just think the league as a whole is weaker. This ManU team is doing well this season, but I think would have struggled in the past.

bad day
as a lfc fan the worst thing ever is losing against the mancs but they played better and had the right game plan,

all the fans cussin rodgers are right yes he should not have played allen and hendo should of started and downing dint do much either but listen were in transition give rodgers has done things which previous managers didn't do

* played the kids stirling suso wisdom
and kept faith in them
* he's playin attackin football the liverpool way pass and move
* not scared to change things when things arent going well

allen had a bad game not played well recently but listen do you rememba lucas he was gettin abused and cussed too hate that stick up for the players and show your support allen needsto believe in his own ability he's got the lot quick gud passer and gud engine but jus lacks confidence

cummon lets be realistic we need time to get to were the mancs are give rodgers support back him back lfc and judge them nxt season

positive note sturridge looks reli good and borini looked good too need a couple of class players and i think we will do well next season

Hi guys no joy today but 2nd half was good effort, but onto my point lookin back over last 3 years 4th place has been 70, 69 and 68 points while we at this stage have 31 points with 16 left or a possible 48 points to play for, i often post and am really hopeful and look on the positive side after a bad result or poor performance but can not see us takin 36/40 points out of rest of season .There is signs of improvement and think we will get more than the 28 points we got in first 19 matches in the second half .red2toe

13 Jan 2013 22:35:18
Allen waas abysmal as usual, he should not play any time soon, pathetic. Wisdom lacks, rather pla Johnson on the right and Robinson on the left, would at least be balance.. we need it. Played well, but elementary mistakes cost us... Allen was ridiculously bad, should be dropped for a few weeks...

SMc

Agree with Allen abysmal but not as per usual. He was class when we first signed him

13 Jan 2013 22:29:19
firmly agree with the Eds on this one about Allen

At the start of the season Allen carried us,

He doesnt get noticed for when he's playing well because when he's playing well i.e. doing his job he is simply turning over possession and providing the ball to other players

On a side note would like to see him be pushed further up the pitch. Against Sunderland it looked like a good switch at the time!

Personally think he justs needs a rest, he made a couple of dangerous errors today granted but everyone has bad games now and then and Im sure he'll get a break soon - Rodgers knows he needs one

13 Jan 2013 23:18:26
I agree with this. His form's gone way down, I'm not going to pretend he's playing well, but he was a good player at the start of the season, no reason why he can't be again. He's only 22, writing him off is ludicrous.

He just needs to be taken out of the firing line for a bit. So does Sterling (can't believe people are getting on his back - he's 18 ffs, he's not going to be brilliant every week). I think that's what Rodgers was doing the last couple of weeks playing Hendo. He should've stuck with him as the in form player today, but obviously he wanted to show faith in Allen and give him a boost. Man you away probably not the game to give someone looking to recapture their form, though.

Surely people now realise our midfield is shocking. Allen is a squad player, young but great potential, Henderson the same. Lucas still not match fit, shelvey not good enough and Gerrard is well past it, slow, poor passing and stupid fouls every game. Please buy a strong aggressive midfielder and someone who can pass a ball and we can climb the table. Sturbridge boring Suarez are great attacking options but lets put some good midfielders behind them and give them the ball they deserve and also protect the back four.

So deluded. gerrard has carried us for the last month and we'd be nowhere without him.

Sounds about right, good post!! Beardsley's Boot's

Losing to Man you hurts. It's the pits and all LFC know what I mean. The only solace we then look for is whether we have progressed and is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

Well the second half performance had a bit of fight and Sturridge scoring again was a plus but that was about it.

On the other hand lack of progress is highlighted by the fact that a Liverpool team that has been together for more than half a season cannot pull off a performance for a full 90 mins.

The team selection by BR is suspect. The persistence of picking Allen, who looked scared in the tunnel, is bemusing. I still cannot see what apart from short passes sideways and backwards, he adds to the team. Leaving Sturridge out was also bemusing....give them something to think about. Man you pressed high, just like other teams who have beaten LFC and BRs philosophy and game plan is transparent. Why persist with it?

Overall, the results do not show progress and the performances are not consistent. We haven't beaten any of the top half of the table teams and the players seem to be, dare I say it, confused as to their duties on the pitch.

BR has said himself that the second part of the season is the business end (IMO all parts of the season are the business ends) and the results HAVE to follow. He praised the team again today as he has done after nearly all defeats but plainly speaking the first half display was unacceptable and therefore we didn't deserve more, therefore, he should be saying 'this is not good enough for Liverpool Football Club' and we expect much more.

For a squad that has been repeatedly described as paper thin we do not see more reinforcements apart from Sturridge. If my Maths is right we are 2 down compared to he start of the transfer window.

Anything less is accepting mediocrity and as I have said in a previous post if we accept this now we will forsake our future.
I still think an experienced head is required in a director of football position to guide BR through his own learning curve. This is far too big a job for someone who is frankly still learning the ropes and for want of a better word 'experimenting' with philosophies........I say experimenting as BRs philosophy has not historically landed him silverware or success of the magnitude that is expected by Liverpool.

RedDoc

The blind faith brigade will disagree with you.

BR blooding the younger players was always going to bring some poor results. I don't feel we are settling for mediocrocey but must be prepared for some ups and downs. I do feel Rogers could be more flexible with his tatics. I think at the moment the club struggle to compete with the big boys on transfers. So Rogers must be clever not just with who he brings in but also with the way he deploys his troops we are building for the future

I hate loosing to any team. Butbi did are enough in the 2nd half to realise that written are not that far away.
my only worry is will brendan now see that Luis needs help up front.
if he has seen that we will are going in the rite direction.
U cab not play for.45min and expect a result . However close.we may have come.
The.league is so bad at the moment we still have a chance of 4th.

people on here need to be realistic B.R. has had his hands tied since the day he came in because in no disrespect king kenny he had major funds and wasted them on over hyped English players and B.R. has had to come in and make do..

with little money at his disposal B.R. is not doing a bad job but then again i think he could be doing better i believe in what he is trying to do with the club and the players but he needs time. yes he will lose a few games but at the end of the day he has hunger for the game and is doing the best he can with a small squad and tight budget all we have to do as fans is get behind him and the team he picks .... and if you so called fans think you can do better then why aren't you managing a club in real life not just on a computer!!

Pretty sure BR opted for 442 in the latter stages of the 2nd half which coincided with our best passage of play of the game

It is clear we need a Left footed LB as cover for Enrique

And in order to play 433 effectively we desperately need a quality no 10/CAM

Leam Red

It was not 4-4-2 it was 4-3-3 in the 2nd half, with Suarez, Borini and Sturridge as a interchanging front three.

Plymouth Red.

I don't know if it was a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3. Kinda like an off balance 4-2-3-1 if you ask me. I'd say it looked like this after Borini's introduction: Sturridge was playing striker. Behind him you had Borini playing tucked in on the left as an inverted winger. Suarez was behind the striker in a role that wasn't quite 2nd striker, but not quite attacking midfielder. Downing played wide to the right, wider and much deeper than Borini was on the other side. Allen and Gerrard both played deep and took turns getting forward when needed. Johnson on the left played alot like a wing back, pushing up very often. On the opposite side Wisdom played more like a fullback. Skrtl and Agger were pretty standard centerbacks.

So it wasn't 4-4-2 because Suarez wasn't really playing striker and Borini was playing so advanced that he wasn't part of a "bank of 4". It wasn't 4-3-3 because Suarez wasn't playing as a wide forward and Downing wasn't part of a center midfield triangle. It wasn't really 4-2-3-1 because Downing and Borini weren't playing on the same line either.

Downing stay out wide on the right
Borini came on and was playing pretty much as a left winger
Granted a few times he came inside

Gerrard and Allen then Henderson were playing as box to box centre mids

Maybe worth watching the last 20mins again Plymouth red

I'm laughing at all these huge summaries... the only problem with our team today, and every other day, is Pepe Reina.

I don't normally say anything negative about our players but what evers happened to reina he seems visibly nervous everytime he touches the ball lately, his passing as positioning just arent what they used to be for whatever reason.... personally love the guy so hope he gets back to his best sooner rather than later.
westcorkred

I agree. It comes down to basics, he's not tall enough. Being his height should make him more agile, and he used to be an excellent shot stopper, but he isnt no more.

Reina who kept us in with a chance with a top save from Kagawa at 2-1 and couldn't do anything about either goal? That Reina? Must be, because I'm fairly sure he's the only one we have.

Reina has not been a problem since he's come back from injury.

Worst Man you side for ages and still we couldn't beat them, maybe shows where we are at. MrT

Mid table team.

Problem is hardly anyone else had beat them either. To be honest, the whole league is pretty anemic looking this year.

Ha that's funny...worst Man Utd team? that's top of the table...you're deluded if you think there should've been no other result than a Liverpool win...get real!

Seems the rest of the premiership also struggle against the worst Utd. team ever... they've won 9 out of their last 10 and drew the other one.

They've lost 3 times out of 2 games this season.

United fan here...... Sorry but its not the worst team ever given its not great but you seem to be forgetting evens was out as was rooney an a few others never mind the fact we didn't play great I think your teams lack of form is a lack of belief players heads down most of the match but in all fairness the last third you's looked ok but you did not deserve to win or draw ...... You deserved the loss not as a club but as a team.....sorry

hey guys

i swear this has nothing to do with today..
man utd are a top team..any points at their ground is a bonus..so nobody expected to walk all over them

but my point is this

this team..is going nowhere...now..and next season
with the owners we have..and one of the worst people in the boardroom who buy awful players, rubbish scouts and stupid prices we pay for these players...expect NOTHING.

we won't go for any top class players around europe

every transfer window that opens....our club slips down in quality..because BE SURE spurs newcastle everton and swansea will actually GO for buying a quality player.

where liverpool...the so called..historical bla bla bla
want to buy inexperienced overpriced players
and the manager has the balls to say our squad is small

so il say again....this club is going nowhere..just look around the table..now we are fighting to establish a 8-12th placed position with the teams around us..

we are not top 4...we are not top 6 because we have slipped to a 3rd level now

Alright lads, just confused why everyone's having a pop at Allen he played well today, funny how no one has said a word about sterling? He was poor today, never got in to the game. No doubt he's got bags of talent but I think he could do with a rest.

Lfc on the up!

Big John

Specsavers Allen played well?

What about Lucas is he now immune from criticism, in my opinion he was Liverpool's worst player and deserved to be taken off.

You know what else is funny? When you do CTRL F, search for sterling, and you get around 90 entries, most of which are negative.

A few comments about certain things today, much as I love Danny Agger he made one basic error ( was excellent otherwise ) which led to the first goal, one of the first rules as a defender is that you never let the attacker get more than an arms length distance on you and you couldn't ask for a worse player for Danny not to stay tight to, if that's any other United player that doesn't go in.

BR's team and tactics in the first half were wrong IMO, but as I have stated in a comment further down the page, he's young and hopefully he will have learnt alot from today.

I am reluctant to criticise players and I will try not too with this comment but Joe Allen has a long long way to go to establish himself as a regular in our midfield, for his own confidence he should be taken out of the limelight for a while, build his upper body strength and hopefully come back fresh and show us why Rodgers paid so much money for him. I hope BR doesn't have a blind spot with this kid, and carry on playing him to justify what he has said about him and the fee he paid.

Thought Wisdom played well and that will be good for his confidence, Sturridge was excellent when he came on, he looked sharp hungry and his movement and pace ( should he continue to build on this ) make him look like a real asset.

Not sure what way to look at the team today as we only started to play when we went 2 down so do you praise there fighting qualitys for such a young side almost snatching a draw or have a go at them for getting themselves in that position in the first place. At the minute I will go with the former, but they are going to have to liven up and quickly.

Seen a bit of stick for Reina but he was left exposed for both goals, as i've said Agger for the first and Johnson for the second, what about his bravery to stop Kagawa ( nearly getting knocked out ) or the shot he tipped around the post in the second half which would have made it 3-1 and basically killed the game off for us. If he is getting stick today when he was one of our better players then what chance has he got, as I have stated on here before, look how long we waited to get a world class kepper and now people want him out, we have looked dodgy at the back all season so that won't have helped him. He is a top draw kepper and I for one hope he stays beyond his current contract.

Waro

Wisdom play well? He was at fault for the first goal, not closing down evra then turning his back to him a good few seconds before he crossed.

Sorry Waro, don't know whether it will show up, but I was half way through a post saying how spot on I think your assessment was. The only thing I would disagree with is maybe your view on Allen. I think he struggled first half because of the lack of forward options. Downing (whatever we think of him as a player) is too much of a traditional winger to work in BRs system. His instinct to stay wide doesnt create the confusion of a fluid front three who pull the defenders out of position. BR addresed this 2nd half by dropping LS deeper, which flustered Carrick who virtually ran the show first half. I think Joe will be just fine with LS/FB/DS pace and movement in front of him.
spot on with Reina, not sure what game the moaners were watching.

Incidentally, this is perhaps why Downing looks better playing left back, because then he does what he should - and bombs down the wing....

eds and fans, did BR say he does not play a 4-3-3 with 1 striker and 2 winger, he plays the 4-3-3 with 3 strikers instead, now i may be only a liverpool fan and not a manager but im sure downing is a poor winger, and not a striker, the same goes for sterling,

so after what he said he kept 2 stikers on the bench ???????? and played with wingers, i wish he kept to his word, once sturridge came on it gave the man utd defence something else to worry about instead of 3 getting around suarez all tthe time, then borini came on and that's the 3 strikers, but it was way too late, i don't understand BR not starting with sturridge and suarez, as they can form a very good partnership, if he keep playing poor players in downing and allen then he need to go, i bet he is waiting for the swansea left back who is injured at the moment to get well before he buys him, if sturridge was not fit then how come borini is at the same fitness level with being out for months, and sturridge playing for chelski and for us against mansfield

BR is a tom pepper who thinks he can change the game, our player and league position expectations are already down, and we know its going to take a few years to get back into the top 4 at least we won't do it with BR and his old boy club

Stupid people calling for Rodgers to be gone obviously these persons haven't got a clue watch us go honestly we will be great again with RODGERS.

You must be basing your post on his fantastic management cv, a play off final win...and the sack. at the moment just talks the talk.

He needs to be more direct and incisive in his approach/tactics. Passing the ball from side to side then back to the keeper will not win matches. It's ok talking about possession, as long as the ball ends up in the back of the net !

If you want life as a liverpool fan to be more bearable you should copy me and make the NY Times your rag of choice, they love us, even when beaten by the mancs! When have you read anything half as positive be written in any of the rubbish end english tabloids?

"However, Liverpool now has something it had lacked in the first six months of the season. Its owners, the Fenway Sports Group in Boston, failed to back the new coach, Brendan Rodgers, in the transfer market by letting forwards go without securing replacements.

All season long, that had left incredible onus on Luis Suárez. The Uruguayan, as industrious and tricky as he is sometimes controversial, remarkably almost matched van Persie goal for goal in the Premiership. Yet Suárez has been a one-man attack for 20 matches until, with the new transfer window opening this January, Liverpool could buy somebody to share his burden.

Sturridge cost £12 million in his transfer from Chelsea and is not quite match fit after injury and after being in the shadows for so long. Once Liverpool unleashed him alongside Suárez in the second half, however, there was immediate menace to its attack. "

Its true!

Hne had to be fitter than borini but he started on the bench so DS was and if fitter that borrini, allen was very bad today, and BR says about the front 3 being strikers, correct me if im wrong . is downing a striker, or is sterling a striker, so why play 2 wingers when the team is set up for 3 stikers up front, and then leave the strikers on the bench . 2 half of games and 2 goals is sturridge at the moment, so he can't be that unfit can he,

Hi all,

Didn't watch the game today unfortunately I was playing sunday league!

I can see a lot of people who moaning about bout Liverpool losing but let's be realistic its Manchester United away.. I think we are playing a good football at the moment but we are still in consistent. We have Norwich at home next. Think we should start DS & LS up front and get a few goals to regain confidence back into the team.

Hopefully we can add to our squad in the next couple of weeks. WS would be great signing but I doubt the interest is even there. Maybe Ince will sign but why is it taking so long to sign him?

After Norwich we have city and arsenal way both hard games hopefully we can manage 2 more away wins!

Onwards and upwards

Cheers

Manny

Iv just read the interview with Ian Ayres today, I hope to god those words don't come back to haunt him come Feb 1st, because after the dreadful conclusion to the summer transfer debacle he won't get a third chance this time.

We are desperate for a number 10 top playmaker, we all know it, BR knows it, Ian Ayre knows it, now go and get us one you have 18 days to get us one.

Just sitting in the nursing home typing this quickly before the nurse comes back and puts me back into bed.

Interesting game plan today from BR. On paper we are as good as United, but we do not have their depth of experience and our squad is a lot younger.

He is clearly trying to blood some of the young lads in a once in a lifetime introduction to a huge stadium.

Todays experience for our younger players will be a massive learning curve for the likes of Wisdom, Sterling, Sturridge, Henderson, Allen. These young players have just been part of a MASSIVE game in a very hostile environment. To be fair to them, they were a little overawed at first, but they got over their nerves and are learning fast. Todays game will help them and the team enormously.

I personally thought that Wisdom was outstanding albeit a little raw and inexperienced at times, but he did really well against top players who cost millions. Sturridge just oozes class and scoring on both his FA Cup and League debut will be a huge help to him. He will become an absolute folk hero to all the fans ( just like Luis ), and his game will improve from working with players like Stevie G and Luis. I thought Borini looked razor sharp, which considering the time he has been out is amazing. He has a huge future at our wonderful club.

There were one or two experienced players who didn't turn up for me, and we really can't afford to carry anyone, especially at Uniteds ground.

The commitment and desire shown by our young lads is admirable and bodes well for our future, but Im afraid time is running out for some of the older players. I won't name anyone (they probably know who they are) but they all have a simple choice, either up their game and lead from the front or rest assured they will be definitely be moved on.

All in all I never really expected us to beat United today, but I lived in hope. Despite the loss I still live in hope, we have a future, and the futures looking good.

We need to show the country and the world that we are REAL supporters and we need to show true patience until we get through the next few years with a young but experienced team capable of destroying anyone. Its not just all about buying the best ( even if it does help ), its about building our future on a strong foundation....something that we have not had for over 20 years.

Lets get behind the boys.... they need our help as much as we need theirs

Nurse can you pick those darts up off the floor and spin that picture of old whisky nose a little to the left ?

Tel 1949

Nice post Tel. sentiments pretty much spot on. when the nurse has finished with you, can you tell her my bedpan is full?

BigBadBen

Wisdom outstanding? For being at fault fort he first goal and not being able to pass it? He was the main weak link today

Two things i took from todays game, im not calling for BR to be sacked, im not saying the squad is rubbish, the points are:

1- united are light years ahead of us, if we were being honest with our selves i think we would all agree. I thought we where the team meant to be playing tika tika, we got taught a lesson in it today!

secondly - joe allen is a very poor player. people and eds on here have praised him saying he is brilliant he breaks up play and pass's the ball around, for £500 a week i would happily sit on the midfield line, receive the ball and play it straight back to a team mate, its easy enough and makes you look like a world class player on fifa statistics.

i won't go into how poor sterling has been playing for the last few games or how much gerrard is annoying me by not taking shots in positions he would usually score screamers from.

Peoples opinions would be appreciated, i am a fan so leave off the abuse please

john

I agree with most of what you have written, Joe Allen was atrocious today and I was surprised he was not substituted at half time and not Lucas. He gives the ball away far too cheaply and has done continuously over the past few months. He needs a kick up the arse.(Rogers seems to love him so I doubt he will). Tactically we are too intent on fanny-ing about with the ball in and around the 18 yrd box and teams have not taken long to work out that if we are pressured in our own half we give the ball away eventually e.g Stoke and obviously today. Far too light weight in the tackle in all areas. Dull Dull Dull. Its down to the players desire from the kick off in my opinion not "lets start playing now we are 2 down" LFC forever YNWA

I think downing was worse than Allen, he doesn't even know how to mark, and leaves players with way too much space. For example if he pressed his player, then the first goal would never have been. The sooner he goes the better. At least Allen tries!!

SimoLFC

Why are United light years away? They were better in the first half and we were better in the second half.

The reason they are more than 20 points ahead is that they have the experience, confidence and winning mentality that we lack at present. If we can get a bit more consistency to our game, we can begin to show these qualities too.

I didn't see us getting any tika taka lessons. However, where we could learn from them is on delivery from wide areas. They have won so many league titles because of 2 things. They always put in good deliveries from wide areas and they flood the box to get on the end of them. It is not rocket science. Look at Evra's cross for the first goal and the delivery for their second goal. Compare them to our efforts, which are usually hit and hope, aimed at nobody in particular.

United are not a fantastic team, as the Champions League proves every year. They just know how to beat all the teams that we should be beating too.

I don't think it will take too much for Liverpool to get to that stage if we can just be more consistent and clinical in the final third. Up to you FSG to add to the squad to achieve this.

redmersey

Lucas and Allen should of started from the bench, Utds see midfielders brushed them aside. this tika taka garbage is not only boring people to watch, the players are getting bored. we should of had more long distance shots on goal, esp with DE gea playing. i think we should play with 3 center backs, 3-4-1-2, with Suarez behind the front 2. utd knew Johnson would of being playing at left back, that's why Valencia didn't start and young was there instead of.

Hey Eds,

What's the situation with Christian Eriksen? Do you think we could realistically get him in the summer if we went after him?

Couples of murmur's that we've been scouting him intensively this season.. {Ed052's Note - realistic. Not at all. Possible. No, very small chance}

13 Jan 2013 20:46:16
hi eds are liverpool after any wingers we need more experience for the games like today {Ed052's Note - ince. Jeffren was enquired about}

Are you guys nuts with all this Ince rubbish, he is another young prospect, we have lots of those. We need proven players now if we want to climb the table not potential............. Get a grip

13 Jan 2013 20:40:41
Alright guys!

Well, have to say I feel like I've taken a lot of positives out of today's game, no matter how gutted I am to see the beat us again!

First half we didn't play bad, we just didn't play good. Everything changed when Sturridge came on and in my opinion he looks like he's class. Exciting every time he receives the ball, good passes, good movement, good poaching... AND Borini back!? Famine to feast? Borini also looked good in my opinion.

To be honest, I thought Sterling would struggle with this game before we even kicked off, and in my opinion he did... but he's bound to. He's young and inexperienced, coming up against some of the most experienced defenders around the world at the moment (Vidic & Ferd). If it were up to me I would have started Sturridge over Sterling, but I'm obviously not a Manager and Rodgers knows his stuff. And speaking of Rodgers, I think he's great.

If we perform against Arsenal and City the way we did in the second half against United, we'll definitely get results from both games.

As I said, happy with our performance and how things look for future, but gutted that United beat us.

Come on Reds!
Thanks, Ell.

hi eds, i missed the game today and after reading what has been posted about it i wanted to know a true and honest opinion from one of the eds. did liverpool play well, and i know sturridge scored but what was his game like? oh and i read borini played, i thought he was still injured

Thanks :)
Ropin {Ed052's Note - awful until 60 minutes. After that we looked like a team. Borini looked good and almost scored. DS missed one he should have scored but held play up well, drifted, good skills and plenty of tracking back. A front 3 of FB, DS and LS will have everything to score and create 100 goals a year, there's early chemistry}

The comment from Ed052 is something I would completely agree with, those three looked very good already.

13 Jan 2013 20:34:56
Didn't catch the game today, could anybody tell me what formation we played in the second half ? I'm hearing we played 4-4-2 but i'm not sure.
Josh {Ed052's Note - it was more a 4 2 4, with one or two of the front players tracking a United runner, e.g DS tracked Welbeck from the half way line to the box.}

13 Jan 2013 20:29:32
Has been a while ed's. This silly talk of a dutchman is pure madness, why do people not listern to BR? He stated today that the club are not interested in the man, he is too old and for too costly (wages).

Milner is also a daft, rumor wise that is. He is a top player who plays regular 1st team and does not warm the bench, why would he move to a non CL club? Do not get me wrong I would love the the english Kuyt in our team, but I am a realist sorry.

So 28 years of age is to old .well hate to say it but in two years we will need a new 11 then

13 Jan 2013 20:28:37
what ever happened to us signing MARCO BUENO and HECTOR HERRERA from pachuca? And who is liverpools scout in south america?cheers ed(s) {Ed052's Note - Herrera was never likely. Bueno was deemed not good enough}

13 Jan 2013 20:34:54
cheers ed0052 and as for the scout(s) do you know if there is any at all in south america? {Ed052's Note - there are plenty. We have continuously scouted South America over the past couple of years}

13 Jan 2013 20:27:48
The conviction Brendan spoke of in the week, needs to be displayed in his team selections - we can't leave Luis isolated, and allow ourselves to be harried and pushed as deep as we were in the 1st half. Give us a real presence & goalscoring threat up top (ie; more than just one bloke) - it will give Joe and the rest of the midfield more room to play. Courage Brendan, courage...

I agree 100% the funny thing is...most people I talk to have the same sort of vision and approach when they talk about team selection and tactics...the only ones who don't seem to is the Managers we employ! How do you feel about our formation out of interest?

Noose

Bang accurate Noose

Not sure about formations themselves - i think the trick is to set the team up in a way that gets the best out of he players you've got. That said, i like 4-3-3 as it gives numbers in midfield. Must be done correctly though - all 3 of the front 3 need to be a live, genuine goal threat in all games. Trouble with yest was, i don't think you can apply that last statement to players like Stewart Downing...

13 Jan 2013 20:26:23
Its a bit annoying how so many people are saying Rodgers out - he's never beaten a top 6 team

Firstly that's extremely rash!

and secondly, i'd far rather not beating the top 6 then not managing to beat bottom teams last season - i.e:

Wigan - Drew away, Lost at home
QPR - Lost away
Norwich - drew at home
Bolton - lost away

Just a handful, but at least we are beating the teams we should this season, bar a couple of games!

have some hope!

He has beaten a top 6 team, Swansea beat arsenal last season

13 Jan 2013 20:19:29
even though i believe our attack force isn't 4th place material i do believe that will be it untill the summer i can only see a defender coming in wouldn't want ince he woulndnt make an impact save the money for somebody else

13 Jan 2013 20:17:07
IMO Allen had a decent game besides the horrible pass to pepe if it was for pepe he will only know, he didn't miss place a pass that I can remember or was he wasn't pushed off the ball that didn't end in a free. from the start of the second half to 10 minutes before he was taken off because he was dead on his feet, I thought he was very good.

Have to say I feared for the worst when it showed Allen in the tunnel before the game, he looked terrified. But can see where Rodgers was coming from, he knew that united would press high up the pitch and allens pass completion rating are better then hendo's so Allen was the obvious choice to start with.

KUMBER

Really? I can hardly recall a pass Allen completed in the first half, the whole team struggled but he was the obvious weak link. In fairness to the lad he played notably better in the last half an hour though.

13 Jan 2013 20:14:31
After watching the match today, in my opinion i think
we really do need more exp players. Yet again the TORRES rumours are flying about!, he has still bags of talent people do make mistakes. I think it would the shrewd business if we buy torres, its good well having young players for future but you needs decent players now. I cannot see liverpool finishing in the top 6 at this rate...
PS... Keep up the good work.

13 Jan 2013 20:06:37
Eds fellow reds, I am sat here a little bit bemused really, just read Ian Ayre interview saying liverpool have the finances to buy who ever they want, yet we won't be signing sneidier .after today's game I feel that we need a quality playmaker / no 10 player .who can play that killer ball quickly .so if Wesley isn't the right player who is .

Is it not that we don't want to be paying £160,000,000 a day in wages? Just a thought.

But if money is not a problem increase transfer fee and lower the wage

"increase the transfer fee and lower the wage" are you deluded?!

The club demand a transfer fee
The player demands a wage!

The only thing that can be changed is offering less wage but providing a better Agent Bonus and a Better Signing on fee

13 Jan 2013 20:05:31
Hi Eds,

I hope to god Joe Allen does not read half of what is being said about him..what a joke some so called Liverpool fans are...and to be honest with what's being said these can't be Liverpool fans surely?

Get behind Joe and i tell you what when he gets back to the Level his was playing at Swansea let's see how many fans come back on hear and praise him and kiss his ass...what do you people do to a child when it gets or does something wrong destroy it like you do whenever a Liverpool player has a bad game or is going through a bad patch? Get a grip and grow up.

Get behind these players and stop all these nonsense!

Thatracoonstolemybacon

I'm very much a Liverpool fan and I'm criticising Allen and BR's insistence on playing him so where is the problem?

Chris in Tamworth

Fans are entitled to their opinions and you can dress it up anyway you want, but Joe Allen is not, has never been, and never will be, good enough to play for LFC - Swansea seen us coming £15 million squad player!

Mate, with all due respect Allen has been average all season and today, well, a boy against men.

Just because some fans see him for what he is does not make them any less 'real' fans than you, only that they see how average he is when you do not.

My only worry is that Rodgers, with whom i have great faith, sticks with him blindly because he is 'his' man when he clearly should be giving others a chance.

It does not make a lesser fans to criticise a clear weak link my friend

Spot on Chris !

We all have our opinions and from my point of view i would rather see Henderson play instead of Allen but for some people to go over the top calling him every name under the sun just like they did with Lucas...Allen is young and has a chance to come good.

Thatracoonstolemybacon

To the Joe Allen boo boys, up until Lucas' return Joe was played out of position and yet still managed to win possession for his team more than 50 times than any other player in the league (167 times up until QPR game). You all saw him last year at Swansea and most agreed he was a quality player, he only scored and assisted four times each last season so he was never going to be a massive goal threat. What he has done is exactly what he has been told to do in this system (ie. win the ball and start up an attack with a pass, be it five yards sideways to Gerrard or up into the feet of Suarez). The game we play wouldn't function without someone of his style and (more importantly) his quality. IMO he has been one of our strongest and most consistent performers this season and I am fully confident in two years everyone will be pleased we stumped up £15m for him as he will be surrounded by players more suited to his game and of higher quality (this includes current players who will hopefully adjust to our style)

If Joe Allen is as weak a player as some would suggest, then the fault lies with Rodgers for playing him, not Allen. We lost Sahin as a result of Rodgers persistence with Allen lets hope we don't lose Suso for the same reason !! Beardsley's Boot's

Bacon lad look are we supposed to say Allenstein great when he clearly wasn't-no ones slagging from what I see just stating truth. We all hope he comes good. But as it is he shouldn't be starting simples

13 Jan 2013 20:00:13
I'm shocked - there actually seems to be some balanced and sensible summaries of the game today rather than the usual hysterical nonsense. Good stuff.
The first half was just very sloppy and no cutting edge or attacking support from the midfield. I can understand the idea behind playing the ball around at the back and trying to create space through the opposition but I just don't think many of the players we have at the moment can cut it. Gerrard and Allen have both been giving the ball away in dangerous positions and Lucas is often too deep to do any damage. It's good to have him back though, he seems to be getting back into his stride a bit now. We showed in the second half exactly what damage can be done when the possession and one-touch passing is directed towards the opposition goal and not played back and sideways. Goes to show how important belief is. When we had that in the second half we looked really good.

Square Red {Ed052's Note - Allen wasnt that bad. He wasnt at fault for any goals and is only noticed when he plays badly, not well. People have to remember he caried the team at the begining of the season}

Really ed 52 your usually very good with your veiws and can tell you are a Fan, but he has been awful and at start of season he was ok didn't carry us or if he did where did he carry us

K.O.B {Ed052's Note - he carried us at the begining but has dropped off continuously. Yes he was bad, but I haven't seen any criticism of Skrtel. The second goal was his fault}

That's a fallacy ed and you know it. He played better than now yes but he definitely didn't carry any one.
Blind faith will get us no where {Ed052's Note - its not blind faith. Allen controlled us at the begining}

What? He carried the team when we were in the bottom 3 and then just above relegationat the start of the season? Not the best of praise you can receive.

The Irish Rover

Ed, Allen was really poor today, lost possesion and gave the ball away far too many times !! {Ed052's Note - he didnt give it away that often. Certainly no more than anyone else}

Ed, Allen was the stand out for me, along with the away support at Old Trafford, especially in dangerous areas - eg the pass that nearly let United in for a goal... {Ed019's Note - Allen was our player of the month in his first month. But yes, he didn't have the best game}

Allen's job is to keep the ball and he didn't do that well enough today, simple as.

The thing with Allen in my opinion is that because he is so well known for his passing stats, that when he gives the ball away it becomes more noticeable than when anyone else gives it away.

An Dun Red

The bigger problem is that whenever Allen and Lucas both play at the same time, they both play poorly. Individually, they do fine. Figure out why that is and fix it, I'd say.

RDL

Lucas is just as bad as Allen - has been all season and was yesterday

To all the so called fans saying Rodgers used wrong tactics from start. Can you please tell me what tactics he used cause I don't know what he said to the players before the took the pitch? I know he used 433 as the formation with 2 up 1 down which I wouldn't call negative but out side that what tactics should he have used? Well.

Away at old Trafford. What would you have done.

KUMBER

Took Allen and Sterling off after 15mins and replaced them with Hendo and Sturridge...

Did you watch the second half ?

13 Jan 2013 21:13:27
Kumber mate we can't play Allen and lucas togeather coz in 4-3-3 you need pace to attack and deffend Allen doesn't have pace nither lucas so teams run through our midfield ver, very easily. Everyone can see that even tea lady.

So that's it, that is the tactics that he got wrong. ha ha noting to do with where and who they should press in certain areas, what to do if wing backs are high up the pitch, who should have picked up who from corners/free kicks, what to do on short corner kicks, what to do if welbeck is droping deep to help out midfield numbers? so the only thing rodger got wrong was his line up.

rogers didn't bring on sturridge because he would have ran himself out pretty quick(not match fit) and would have risked injury, but you knew that didn't you.

he didn't start hendo because he knew united would press high up the pitch and allen was the best man for the job of keeping position in tight areas.

KUMBER

Tea lady I know we are not barca but our 3 of Lucas Allen and Gerard I would say are faster then busuqets fabricas and xavi. Does there mid 3 work?

Game of two halves today Liverpool fans have a lot to look forward to I think and I beleive that the future looks bright but a few additions are needed
CDM, LB, and another experienced forward maybe not a star striker is required maybe just a good cf in the mould of a Stephen fletcher type player
And I think this would make Liverpool a lot more competitive

13 Jan 2013 19:46:31
I don't support Liverpool or even a Premiership team, but I am excited to see how your team will progresses now that you have Sturridge.
Not only that, I think your team can help develop a very good CF for England and it takes the pressure of Suarez.
Good look for the season, and I am certain that you guys will advance from a poor (considering) current league position.

13 Jan 2013 19:41:46
Genuinely believe a front 3 of Suarez, Sturridge and Borini will be very dangerous and solve our goal scoring problems. Rodgers has a vision and is sticking with it: 3 front plays that can interchange and are more than capable of scoring. We really are making progress... The second half performance -- albeit already behind, and was maybe a little too late -- showed we have both fight, and when we are positive, can more than match the best sides in the league. We're just missing strength in depth, which Rodgers is adding slowly.

Gogol's Nose {Ed052's Note - the front you say will be te best in the league. Young, talented, full of goals, left and right feet, good technique, understand the system and can interchange}

Completely agree Ed 052. It'll just take some patience from the fans to let it all come together naturally. If you look at the squad -- particularly the wings -- now from what it was even last season, we have more options than I can remember. Some great young players in nearly every position. I'm optimistic about us going on a decent run (after the tough games away at City and Arsenal), and for the coming seasons, providing we keep out best players -- namely, Suarez.

Hi all mixed feelings about today, obviously with the defeat but thought that we did play well the last half hour. Great to see borini back on the pitch, hopefully he will have a good run of games now. Sturridge looked very good when he came on and should have levelled it up.
Ok, Allen didn't have a great 1st half but stuck at it and battled away. Wisdom had a fairly steady game. Stevie g gets some abuse but he always shows for the ball and is key to everything we do. Sterling..let's just lay off him a bit, on the whole he has played well above our summer expectations ofnhim.
I'm still not convinced about our centre back pairing and they just never seem convincing in my opinion. The seem to get pushed and pulled around too easily and often.
We are not a million miles away but it gives us some optimism for the future. Also inthink br is the man for the job.

Good Evening all,

Let's try not to forget where we have come from in the last few years to where we are today. Yes we are a long long way behind the two Manchester clubs in the league and yes we are way down in the league but when you look at what we have now a crop of great youngsters coming through at a rate of which is not seen in any other premier league team I'm talking about Sterling, Suso, Wisdom all have been thrust into the 1st team maybe a little sooner than expected but have they really let us down? the answer is no. They are young lads who will get better as time passes...i can guarantee that other premier clubs are jealous and envious of what's happening at Liverpool...we have such a great line of youngsters ready for the coming seasons when then I'm sure we will get what we have all wanted a team that Will compete.

One final thought....

Has any team this season really and i mean really been a million miles better than us when we are our so called weakest?

Thanks

Thatracoonstolemybacon

Yes, a few years ago we finished second in the league and were getting into Champions League finals, now our fans seem to be happy because we showed a bit of fight and determination after being 2 nil down to our greatest rivals

Hey eds,
Even though we are not in d CL isn't there a chance in hell that we could buy a quality player this january who could instantly improve d squad.

After all we bought Luis Suarez wen we were not in the CL can't we get another quality player like him.

With Ian Ayre saying that finance is not an issue why not try buying a high quality player. Look at RVP's signing it has improved a very avg. United squad. {Ed052's Note - you can hardly call the Utd squad average, and definitely not very average. We have signed one very good player already this month. Others will come in}

Totally agree Ed, it's more than an average United team ! Let's hope we bring more talent in....

Some of the posters today are worse than usual.
No team in England goes to old Trafford and "expects" 3 points, yet some of the posters are horrified we lost today.
I'm not I'm realistic, we have lost something like 13 out of 14 of this fixture.
The likes of man city, Chelsea and arsenal never go there expecting 3 points. that shows a total lack of respect for united, they go there hoping of 3 points but most would be happy to come away with just a draw.
Same goes for most of europes best teams, I doubt even barcelona goes to old Trafford with the expectancy of some of these Liverpool "fans".
Even if/when Liverpool are back to the league challenging best we want them to be, a loss at old Trafford is never the end of the world.
I would understand if we lost 7-0 but we lost 2-1, disappointing but hardly a shock.

Spot on mate. First half poor, second half was actually positive and we were away at the top of the league. I hate them but I don't expect three points in there back yard... In the end it was tight lets build on it.

You would have an arguement Mikey if it was only against Man Utd. Then i don't you would have many complaints. You do realise that we haven't beat any of the teams above us? That is a sad state of affairs unfortunately. So if you only analyze 1 game then yeah we got beat, no problem but not when you take it over a season, different story.

We have been turned from a team that was very good defensively last year to a team that doesnt look confident st all. That can only be down to different coaching and a new style of play? Yet we arent ripping it up at the other end either in terms of goals.

Sorry Mikey, I disagree....

We lost the game in the first half playing negative football. Poor in possesion, side to side football then back to the keeper.

United look most vulnerable when they are put under pressure, attacked down the flanks and getting the ball behind their defence. This was typified when Fergie made the defensive changes in the secon half.

United retreated and started to make mistakes when we rung the changes, we presssed higher up the field and played more positive. Sturridge was a breath of fresh air and Suarez was back to his usual self ! I can see a good partnership with those two...

I said in a post before the weekend, United were there for the taking. Untortunately, in my opinion, Brendan's first half team selection and tacticts were completely wrong.

Passing the ball from side to side, back to the keeper is not the way forward..

P.S.....Sorry mate but Barcelona, B. Dortmund, Bayern would tear them to pieces.

I was having a dig at the posters who slagged the team off for today's result Irish rover.

Some reds are easily pleased these days news to you we lost we are nowhere in the league have some really poor players the squad in br own words is thin we have let 2 go & bring in 1. Now ayre says we got money for players but br says there is not i remeber the days under rafa when we were one of the best teams in europe wins against barca, real madrid, inter, now we are happy to give man you a game how long can this go on before we turn on these owners we are going backwards & to the fans who say go & support another team you are the problem with our club who take second best

Altogether not too displeased about today, yes really annoyed that we lost but really optimistic with what I saw in the second half. Thought in the first half we played like scared little school boys but the difference when Sturridge came on was immense, not to mention Borini but when Sturridge came on I thought we looked like a real team; we've not played that solidly for quite a while now and it just goes to show what a difference a real centre forward makes doesn't it? In my humble opinion if we play Sturridge in every game then I honestly can't see why we can't move up the table.

Yes but worry is took awful 60 mins to change.By then we could have been 3 down.your all missing that point

one of our biggest problems is Lucas Leiva probably looks gud in training but at match speed is simply out of his depth, slow feet.poor tackler.too slow and never finds a killer pass we must move him out along with henderson and in my opinion shelvey and put the funds into Iker Munain if we are sriously going to challenge the top 4 my opinion of this poor midfielder has never changed pleaseeee mr rodgers get rid...

That makes sense, sell Lucas and have no defensive midfielder.

Liverpool have no interest in Dutch star Wesley Sneijder - but managing director Ian Ayre insists the club have the finances in place to make any signings they want. they are working on a number of targets: "It is about who Brendan has got his designs on. What he wants, we will always say the same thing, if we find the right deals for the right players we will get it done.
Ayre insists that money is not an issue for the club.

"We don't have any issues with finances, it is about doing what is best in the long-term interests of the football club.

Know we can't do to much about it but it sounds to me like we will be another arsenal in 3years .great bank balance average side no trophies might scrape champs league if other team slip up .And as fsg /Ayre say .take liverpool back to where it belongs .

Where does it say in that interview that we are not interested? I know we probs won't do anything about it but seems so out of context to me anyone agree ?

The comparison with Arsenal in the second post is correct, that's what F$G want, it's at this point they will look to sell for a juicy profit. So let's hope this happens sooner rather than later so we can get rid of them.

Better Arsenal than Leeds.

All these tippy tappy crap chat in my humble view are just the ramblings of a man with a healthy opinion of himself. In the end, it is the quality of players that matters.

We sold our first team starters, Carrol, Kuyt and Maxi and signed Borini, Assaidi and Sturidge. But for strange reasons, Rodgers would always leave them on the bench and select some spineless chokers. Maybe Borini just returned from injury and isn't match fit but Sturidge should have started ahead of Sterling or Downing. Assaidi was said to be injured, yet he's in Morroco's team for the ACON.

We lost today as a result of wrong team selection. If Rogers can't even select a strong team now in the second half of the season, then we have genuine reasons to be worried.

Allen isn't physically imposing and would always struggle as a defensive midfielder. So why not play him as a no 10, the same role as Kagawa does for the sc**? What do you think would happen to Mata or Oscar if they are played as defensive midfielders? Is there no room for a playmaker in BR's own version of tippy tappy?

Rodgers needs to sort this out now. Playing Sterling and Downing who are so ineffective ahead of other fowards also cost us today's game big time. Sterling is only 18 and should be played in the dying minutes of games we are winning comfortably.

We need goal scoring forwards and not some goal shy wingers. With all the hype created by Sterling and his refusal to sign last year, you would think he's our own version of Christian Tello. Sadly, he's not there yet and should therefore not take the place of better players.

Again, is Tom Ince what we need now? Is he not another light weight mediocre in the making?

Abroad Red.

Carrol, Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy were all bench warmers last year under Kenny not BR, they were kept out the team by Downing Adam Henderson and Spearing? The above players mostly played in cup games and are the reason we done so well in the cups. Three of them decided to leave LFC before BR took over due to not being first team regulars and Carrol is not good enough to play with the ball at his feet. The only good that has come out of it is with the four players above and Cole now off the books and Spearing also LFC have reduced the wage bill by about £450,000 a week.

there's a Sturridge video floating around from todays game. Think the lad brings a lot of energy and pace to the team. If you get to see it though you'll see his movement off the ball too is very good. The snap volley Borini had that just missed could have been returned to Daniel and he would have been 1 on 1 I believe. Good 2nd half after an atrocious first. Really missed Enrique today I felt. Wouldn't be surprised if we won our next 3. Unhappy we lost but like what we are becoming in terms of style and adding the pieces. YNWA!!

Does anyone else reckon sterling needs to be put on bench, he's looked lost in the last few games, we need to drop him before we ruin him like other clubs have done with players. Look for new winger

He could do with some games back with the U21's to get his confidence back. We need another experienced forward and have Borinias back up.

Red1

I do he needs a a rest i would give him 2 matches along with allen

Bang on about Sterling, he's been dreadful for months now. Now more than ever he looks out of his depth and now we have Borini and Sturridge I think it'll be the bench for him.

Or would that knock his confidence -I'd see it as a set back if I was him.

13 Jan 2013 19:06:35
Here is how i saw the game today.
For me Sturridge should have played from the start.Caused loads of problems for Man utd defence when he came on.
Allen is to light weight and gets shrugged off the ball to easily.Needs to get in the gym to bulk up and get some upper body strength.
Stevie G is still doing it in phases but must stop giving the ball away in dangerous areas.
Wisdom is growing in confidence all the time and remember we have got Kelly to come back.
Looked great in the second half, totally dominating and was unlucky to come away with nothing.
Lots of positives to take from the game but need to stop making silly mistakes in defence.
Overall pleased with progress being made under BR but are just 1 or 2 players short to compete properly.

I'll tell you sturridge wouldn't have been nearly as effective had he started i'm afraid.

Rodgers signings have been as effective as Kennys.

Borini £10m+ for what impact
Allen £15m for what impact(passes back and sidewards)
Assiadi £3m never plays what impact
Sahin £100k pw for what impact never played.

We continue to slide further back.

Rodgers does not have the ability to rebuild this club.

Borini Sturridge Allen & Assaidi cost as much as Carroll did alone

Rest my case

It is all very well stating that Rodgers is not the right man for the post. the question is who would you bring in?

Dear god how thick are some people

Borini- injured

Allen- young will get better has a lot of potential

Assadi- squad player and light weight at the moment

Sahin- didn't work out. He kept getting injuries and Henderson and shelvey kept him out.

Where's your mention of sturridge?

Also Carroll was 35 million. Downing near 20 mil. The others I won't criticise but what alot of money down the drain. I don't blame the players btw they didn't ask us to pay 35 million.

London red

Sturridge has scored 2 in 2 and borini is working his way back from international injury, both are 21 and 23 and have years till they peak, allen is perhaps overvalued and easily pushed off the ball but still young, and assaidi has been injured and in the AFCON tournament.

sack the manager and introduce more instability and fractures in the club resulting in players leaving and no key philosophy or playing style, because that's worked so well for chelsea, a dream manager doesnt just arrive and we win everything you know!, try using your brain

Agree mate, fed up of side to side and back passes !

13 Jan 2013 18:56:48
Have to say was a bit disappointed with the team selection today. Leading up to the game I was just hoping that Rodgers would decide to go with Henderson (who has been in top form recently) over Allen because I knew he would be overpowered in the midfield.
Also, I think that if we had adopted a more attacking approach from the kick off then we would have got a better result. In my opinion, we could have done this by fielding Sturridge from the start alongside Suarez who seemed lost in that first half. Suarez himself had a pretty bad game which was annoying to watch.
Glad to see Sturridge get on the score sheet again (2 in 2 for him); reckon he would have got another if he had just kept his shot down.
Borini looked eager when he came on which was good, and I think he'll link up great with Luis and Daniel.

Overall, I felt that we deserved to get a point out of the game, maybe even three if we hadn't of been afraid to shoot on occasion, along with the fact that Vidic was offside for his supposed "goal".
Three points is a must against Norwich next week, and I think we also have a good chance of upsetting both Arsenal and City, but only if we learn from today's mistakes.

Win, Draw or Lose, still support Liverpool FC!

I'm just back from Old Trafford and I'd just like to comment on how team selection and tactics was our downfall today.....

United have been really suspect at the back, exposed by the likes of Newcastle - scored 3, West Ham - scored 2, beaten by Everton, Norwich and Spurs won 3-2 at Old Trafford back in September...

In my opinion, we should have started with Sturridge and Suarez along with Henderson and took the game to the Mancs. This was evident in the second half, we put them under pressure, forcing them to make mistakes, and scored a goal(Sturridge should have had 2).

I know Sturridge was not 100% but surely he could have played 75 mins ? To then be replaced by Borini to keep the pressure up along with Suarez. I also thought Allen was a mistake as he's been really poor of late, again this was evident today, poor tackles and giving the ball away - nearly resulting in a United goal - Danny Agger saving his embarressment !

Our football need to be more direct and incisive, we are too preoccupied with passing the ball from side to side and then back to Reina. When we kicked off the secon half, the ball went back to Reina 4 times in the first 4 mins.

If we're going to play a passing game, it needs to be pass and move. We were like satues in the first half, resulting in us losing the game....

13 Jan 2013 18:54:14
My two cents on the game today, Liverpool fan here in Philadelphia in the states. Terrible first half, we looked very tentative gave the ball away a lot and generated zero offense. Second half was better but still at the end of the day we have a ways to go before we can compete for title. Extremely young team and some of the young guys seemed overwhelmed by the moment. Sterling in particular looked poor. Rafael out hustled him constantly. The kid has been a revelation at 18, and hopefully he will learn from this game. Same thing with Joe Allen, I think he has lots of potential. While he is never going to be Graeme Souness I'd like to see him get stronger physically over the next couple of years, he gets muscled out against top teams a lot.
The team that finished the game is the team I would like to see play consistently for the next run of games. Sturridge up front, Suarez behind him, with Borini and Downing wide to me gives us a lot of movement and firepower. With the top competition coming up in the schedule I'd like to see how that group does. The other option that might be worth it is Sturridge up front, Borini and Suarez wide with Gerrard as Attacking mid and Hendo Lucas behind him. good fight today, even though we lost, and I think Rodgers just needs to be given time to build the team he wants, FSG will back him I think they are good owners.

Your post and one above totally correct summing up of Allen

13 Jan 2013 18:45:46
This was a tough old game for the young lads today.
Raheem, Andre, Allen, Borini, Henderson and even Sturridge, will be better for the experience.

Times change, as does the balance of power. We wouldn't have the great fan base we have today, and we need to keep it up.

Most of the arguments on here can be broken down into fans trying to prove they love the club more, and that should be applauded in truth.

I would rather support Liverpool for life, and never see us lift a league title, than jump ship. So what options does that leave us with?

You don't need to agree with every decision, or every signing.

Just support, even if every inch of you disagrees with what's going on because none of have a choice, we are all Liverpool fans for life.

13 Jan 2013 18:41:24
Reasonable performance today from the team against strong opposition. Defended well on the whole and applied plenty of pressure second half. I think today's game showed how desperately we need an experienced, creative midfield player to make the most of our sustained periods of possession, a certain Dutchman for instance or maybe Suso should have got the start instead of the abysmal Downing. Borrini back and two in two for Sturridge, on-wards and hopefully upwards !! Beardsley's Boot's

It's like Brendan's doing an apprenticeship I front of us all.6/10 so far in my view.Pick correct sides from off.And Particularily Men who will stand up to likes of O/t games.Sterlings young, Outve form and inexperienced. To have him and lightweight Downing supporting Suarez didn't require Hindsight as some suggest. And that's the word-start because we had(for once) 2 other options to start with uptop. But Allen can't play Centre Mid=to pave diamond or not at all.I prefer latter. But that's personnel view. And as Yosser =Souness said 4 4 2 would've given us more control and flow of play first half.So although Brendan has us playing decent footy, needs to start learning quick from these starting selection mistakes. And if going wrong change personnel earlier.Though he at least tends to recognise when going wrong. But formation flexibility and adaption required as well.My feeling is he could well get there, with fsg's support in summer.Aslongas he learns from errors, admits and Ain't stubborn

13 Jan 2013 18:27:58
Just seen someone saying Allen is the scapegoat, for me a scapegoat is when there is no apparent reason for a problem therefore a scapegoat takes the blame. I really like Allen an believe he will come good, however he did have a bad game today and hasn't played well for a while. For me shelvey or Hendo should have started in front of him.

Anyway, we had a bad first half got lucky but I have to say i was really impressed with Rodger and his willingness to change the team when needed, would love to see FSG support him with a few pound because i believe he could build a good team. Overall I am disappointing we didn't snatch a draw but we didn't lose out on our rival which is great. lets right this match off and start again next week. we are improving, lets hope for a few more players in this window and we will move forward

K-Man

To be honest K-man, I thought Allen was poor first half but much better 2nd, he played a pass in the 1st half which went to a united player then steamed in to win it back and gave a foul away, seeing his face after that, you could see he has lost his confidence and belief, it's a shame because I think he will turn out to be a very good player for us, in br we trust ynwa boomer81

13 Jan 2013 18:27:21
God it's back to pick on Allem time I see. I have been frustrated with a couple of his performances, but that goes for every single player in the team really, bar Suarez.

He probably isn't worth 15m from what I have seen to be honest, but who cares? I didn't pay for him, I don't really care how much he cost. Poor Henderson was getting this all last season because of his price tag. This country is generally pretty terrible with it's money, so don't confuse yourselves even further by thinking that the 15m is somehow connected to yourselves.

Fowler99

It's because of his price tag that he will be picked ahead of more deserving players, and if he doesn't improve, I don't want him in the team. Just a passenger.

Fowler99, you didn't pay for him but people like myself did. Pisses me right off when people say things like that. That's why people like you shouldn't go around having a go at people for having an opinion on players and the direction of the club, especially people who spend an awful lot of hard earned money going to games and all the other expenses that come with it.

I thought at the start of the season our strongest part of the team was our midfield, now looking at it the the weakest part, we need 2 new central midfielders a player the mould of yaya toure and one in the mould of David silva then we will be in with a shout of top 4, sturridge is looking to be a decent signing as well!

Suso can fill the 'silva' role and imo we should sign moussa sissoko for that physical presence we desperately need in our midfield

I agree with you moussa sissoko would be a great addition, suso has the potential to be a great link the player the type of player we need but he isn't ready just yet IMO!

Lets just buy the city team then.

The city team? there two players that I used as an example because they are quality at what they do, I didn't say go out and buy them two exact players did I? I understand your trying to be funny but tbh your just coming of stupid!

13 Jan 2013 18:18:27
I think we can take many positives from today's game, on the whole we defended well, put Man you under a lot of pressure in the second half and arguably could have won the game.It was never going to be easy, there's a reason their top of the league. Today's game, particularly in the second half, showed how desperately we need an experienced creative midfield player to make the most of the posesion

In your opinion that was us defending well today? Are you actually serious? We could easily have been 2 or maybe even 3 down at half time, god I'd hate to see us defending badly in your eyes.

Johnson is alright going forward occasionally but as a defender(which is what he's supposed to be) he's just not good enough.

Have to say I was so disappointed with Downing today, he just doesn't offer or create ANYTHING, when he gets the ball out on the wing you know straight away that, A), he's not going to beat anyone and B) he's not going to get a cross in,,, he's such an average player.

(Sorry for a negative post just frustrated and trying to vent, doesn't mean I'm not a real Liverpool fan) I was happy with our teams determination in the second half though, just too many average players to make it pay off,

Kelly Red

Watching todays match raised one concern. i know we are building for the future and accept we will be found wanting on ocasion. surely BR must develop a plan B. aspiring to play the Barcelona way is fine but now and again things just won't work out. Rogers had told us that the players he brings in need to be adaptable. Then that needs to apply to our manager. Today our wide players were starved of the ball Suarez looked isolated. 4 4 2 seemed to be the way when we were struggling to control a strong united team. My full support will always be for the team and players of this great club. Just wish Brendon could be as flexible as the players are expected to be YNWA

I am really positive about what Rodgers is trying to achieve at Liverpool. I thought we was unlucky to be beaten by an offside goal.

Its good to see us getting some power and pace upfront also Borinis movement. Onwards and upwards from now on. We need to give Rodgers all the support we can and only then the club will move forward.

Some sense at last!

Yep i agree its not going to easy but hang in there with him, last season we beat most of the big clubs and failed to beat lower teams in the league and lets face it we came damn close to beating them this season.

alright posters i'd hardly imagin this site to be buzzing after defeat to the mancs. Our first half cost us as we were awful, moving the ball too slowly and misplacing 5 yard passes, it just wasn't good enough. We again at times looked out battled by united in midfield. Gerrard was non-existant, lucas was sweeping up well but picked up a card.As well i thought Reina could've done a wee bit more for the goals, or perhaps i'm being over critical. Second half we changed formation and things improved, uniteds goal was jammy, however the marking was abysmal. Johnson had a poor game but i thought that agger and skrtel were good for the most part. My positives are that we should've been hammered however we very nearly could've got a draw out of the game. Also borini and sturridge did change the game a bit, for the first time we have options. Sturridge took his goal well but then missed a couple and shot instead of holding up play. I'm hoping it is just rustiness. I would love to see jones start the next match and hendo. Also i think webb should get a mention as he had a pretty decent game. I'd love to hear one of the eds views on the match.

The fist goal he had no chance one touch play and rvp took the shot fist time the second he should have saved he was at the far post but he did make some grate saves only mistake br made was bringing borini on for me it was to soon after a bad injury for a game like this

Can't understand Rogers disisen to keep Allen on the second half, everyone could tell Allen was having a bad day, if he would have bought Henderson earlier we may have got a point. And why are we traying to play from back it does coast us so many problems, if Rogers don't realiays that we are not Barcelona we will be trouble.

Simple, Lucas was on a yellow.

Oh and the from the back thing I agree... there was one point in the game where Utd. cleared the ball from their defense, we picked it up and started to stay playing it out and were put under pressure. It made no sense as 8 of our players we're up the pitch... Belt it back up quickly and reapply pressure.

13 Jan 2013 18:10:17
Dont feel we need any more strikers. Sturridge is under rated, Borini still young but needs to improve. We easily need a new winger or 2. Downing needs to be sold, Assaidi needs to be given a chance and Sterling needs to be dropped. Maybe a centre attacking mid, our midfielders don't seem to attack much. Another centre back, Skrtel isnt performing much, needs competition. Hopefully Reina regains his ability. 3 new players we need.

Yeah but what if he play sturridge borini Suarez all together then again we are left with no striker to come on...

Couldn't agree more about Downing

Absolutely offers nothing,, he's a 28 year old 20million player and he can't put a simple ball into the box, shocking,, look how simple United's first goal was, is that too much to ask? Not only can he not cross the ball he can't beat any players on the wing either, he creates absolutely nothing.

I was impressed with our 2nd half determination and with Sturridge and support Brendans plan, I see signs of improvement but Downing is simply not good enough and needs to go, I don't care if had a couple of decent games against QPR and Fulham, this was his real test today and he failed. Atleast Allen is only young.

Reading you lot is a bit confusing. Some of you think you're all doomed which is way too pessimistic. Others think you are on for the top 4, which is a tad optimistic. Truth is, United and City, and possibly Chelsea are way ahead of the rest. The next group would be Arsenal, Spurs and Everton - are you really so far away from them? Like it or not, it takes time to build and you're stuck with waiting, whether you keep Rodgers or not. Winning at QPR doesn't make you top 4, losing at Old Trafford doesn't make you dreadful. Personal view is you won't make top 4 this year buy won't be far off. Then it depends on who you buy and how the team develops. Of course, it's likely Spurs and Arsenal will also be buying...

Second sturridge looks sharp, only 2 games but at least another output. he'll score goals and combined fairly well with suarez. i have to say on a last note i thought Allen was brilliant today (bar his attempt to tee up rvp)

Agree with everything bar the last part. Allen was terrible today. Gave away possession a lot and his attempts at tackles were woeful

With stevie gerrard's talk about it's not all about bringing youth in, maybe that's a sign that a certain Dutch midfielder by the name of Wesley Sneijder could be on his way? Who knows, wishful thinking I guess but maybe dirk kuyt has bigged up what it's like to play for Liverpool on international duty?

Definitely making progress if true. unlucky today always was going to be a hard game at old Trafford but we must pick ourselves up and move on and keep pushing on.

RedRoss

13 Jan 2013 17:46:31
why in your eyes is sneijder not a possibility? in terms of his wages, the transfer fee would be very little for his class so over however long his contract is, it would balance out to us not actually paying so much all round for a top top player, plus surely without the fee being large and getting cole, sahin off the wages bill then we would want a top class player like sneijder, according to you liverpool cannot get this type anymore but its an obvious choice to better the squad for me, but your opinion will always be much better, such as rondon would be a great signing for us, haha

It's not about the transfer fee it's about the wage packet. How can we justify paying him potentially double what Suarez is on? It will totally destroy our wage structure.

SideShowBob

Because we have cheep owners who won't shell out wages they will prob offer him 80 a week no where near enough

Why would we want to pay 200k a week for someone who is 28, when we can spend 80k max for someone around 23/24

First half we didn't show up, thank god sturridge came on! Sterling was poor again hasn't beaten a man in long while now. Joe Allen was abysmal and should have come off after 30 mins. Also a very soft second goal, and passing between the keeper and defenders for 2/3's of the game is just embarrassing. Never the less a few more positives and hoping it shows the owners why there's a reason utd are 24 points ahead of us.

I am still not convinced about Sterling.
He is just too lightweight, know he is young, but he needs to toughen up a bit, and work on his defensive side.
We still need 'capable' wide players.

Agree with everything there and if we had played the team we finished with, bar Lucas from the start, we would have got something from the game, maybe even a win. As soon as I saw Sterling and Allen on the team sheet, I said to myself a draw at best. They both will come good I'm sure, but in games like this we needed experience.

13 Jan 2013 17:40:03
is it me but when is sterling going to take a player on and beat him. too small along with Allen, Lucas need a forward thinking strong midfielder.

Don't say a winger/ attacker in sterling is too small when messi and mata are tiny.
derryred

Too harsh on the lad, he only had the first half too show anything and the whole team were playing poorly. He was getting the ball too deep or in places where if he took on one he'd have another three to take on to get anywhere... Stirling is a prospect, look at his first touch for 18!

Size is not the issue, its physical strength.
Sterling is very deficient in this area.
Needs to work in the gym, not on the pitch as much.

13 Jan 2013 17:37:47
It seems Allen is the new scapegoat now that Henderson's started performing. I agree that Henderson should have started over him given Hendo's recent performances but when will people learn? Allen's only 22, give it a rest.

As for Rodgers, it was good to see him make successful changes early on to alter the run of play. There's no doubting we were overrun in the first half but at least that was addressed early on.

Overall, it's hard impossible to be pleased with a defeat to the mancs, but the lads showed real spirit and reason to be optimistic in the second half. Must win game against Norwich next week in the middle of this tough run of fixtures.

13 Jan 2013 17:37:40
Just think BR bottled it with his starting eleven trying to minimise damage when he should have been positive from the start... Second half I think we saw a glimpse of a good strong starting eleven with finally an outright selfish striker who wants to be in the box all the time ! I feel positive about the second half fight back and they are the league leaders after all who did play pretty solidly.. Dare I say it sjneider would be a top addition to our midfield. I'm going to anfield next week and I'm looking forward to bouncing back with a good win ! Tobiwan

13 Jan 2013 17:36:04
Wish people would stop moaning.
We played United off the park in the second half but
conceded 2 awful goals (second one was particularly sickening), experienced players letting us down for both.
Could so easily have gotten a point in this game with a little luck.
Why is everyone complaining about Sturridge being on the bench?
He is NOT MATCH FIT we have been told both by Rodgers & himself, so if all you guys are so knowledgeable surely you'd all know that.
Even if he was fit & started, who says he wouldn't have been anonymous like Suarez in the first half, then hauled off after 50 mins for Borini?!
We should look at the positives, the main ones being for me that we now have decent options up front.
And Wisdom was fantastic again.
I'd like Coates to get his chance now instead of Agger for a few games.
Goupy :)

What about learning from your mistakes? you forget we've lost to the top sides. all ifs and buts as usual. a football match is 90 mins, not ballsing it up then changing it round for 45 mins when your 1 or 2 down. need to get it right from the start. will all be rosey nexy week with a win against norwich, then city and arsenal to come 2 more loses.

13 Jan 2013 18:33:12
To the reply, we didn't lose to Everton, City, Chelsea or Newcastle, so we've hardly lost to all the top teams.
WelshBoyDave

Mate.
We didn't play them off the park.
SAF changed his formation, to defend the lead.
We were very poor today, apart from 20min at the end.

BR, seems incapable of modifying the gameplan quickly, he is a procrastinator.
He needs to up his game.. Bigtime!.

13 Jan 2013 17:32:16
Brendan Rodgers to the BBC: "I'm not sure we'll do too much more (in January). It will be over the next three or four windows."
with the way we are going in the transfer market we will fall further behind in the league table.
just buying british is not the way forward.
Joe Allen wat a waste of 15m his max value should be 5

13 Jan 2013 17:25:27
Would anyone else be interested to see a front 3 of:

Sturridge--Suarez---Borini

And then they can all alternate position during the match. To me that looks like a lot of goals.
What does anyone else think?

13 Jan 2013 18:30:14
No, i'd stick with Suarez and Sturridge, buy in a more experienced player instead of Borini...he will come good in the end, but we need players for now as well as for the future

13 Jan 2013 17:21:26
I've said before I'm not sure about Rodgers, but it seems the owners aren't expecting 4th this year so you have to give him a chance to build his own team then fully judge him, having said that I don't see what's wrong with voicing your opinion if your not happy with how things are, we've never won the prem so maybe we haven't spoken up enough??
Les

...because at the end of the day united are top of the league. We went to old traffore with 2 teenages in our first team. We were beaten narrowly when we should've been slaughtered for our first half display, now we have borini back and sturridge will improve. We actually have options up front. Yes we are far from the finished article but the most likely result was for united to win.

13 Jan 2013 17:19:31
I am happy to finally see the front 3 of Suarez, Borini and Sturridge today, personally I think Sterling needs to be dropped for a period and make him fight for his place, to be honest I have not really seen much from him recently and he struggled today against better players. I hope Rogers starts with the same 3 vs Norwich, will be a good game for them to get an understanding with each other. Also I agree with the other posters Henderson is definately better than Allen and should be starting ahead of him.

13 Jan 2013 18:17:36
It's an interesting debate on what to do with Raheem. I think most people would agree that in the long run he's going to be a key player - the sort that plays every game.

So what do you do about a dip in form? Dropping him sends a message that may re-focus him. But letting him play through it and re-discover his form may give him valuable experience for the future (all great players have that knack of regaining form without needing to be dropped).

Ultimatley it may be the fixture list that decides, the tough games coming up may need to see him rested.

Keep him on the bench for a few games and bring him on as an impact player, tell him to go out here with 20 mins to go and have a go at their tiring defenders, that's what I would do with him. Then when performances pick up play him again.

Hearing that sneijder is stalling on a move to gala because he is hoping LFC will move for him but we are very sceptical about his wage demands and we want to make sure we keep the funds needed for the ince deal, so i can't see it happening. Also hearing that Sunderland are confident of landing downing on loan for the rest of the season and if that happens LFC will take up the offer from milners agents on taking him on loan for the rest of the season. He is fed up with Mancini and wants regular first team football. If this is all tied up BR will look at bringing in a CM player on loan to replace nuri but this is not a priority.....

Cheers...

I've been reading some posts about the team selection and why didn't sturridge and Borini start the game..... Do any of you listen or know what your talking about? Sturridge isn't fit and is best used coming off the bench to add something different if needed like today and Borini has just come back from injury! All I will say is that it really looks like sterling and Allen need a rest, we have relied to much on sterling since start of the season and with Allen playing in Olympics and then playing most games this season then it's taking its toll on him! I was gutted that Henderson didn't start today coz he deserves a run in team coz he's playing well IMO ..... Suarez and sturridge linked up well today when they had chance, can't wait until we have everyone up to fitness then we can see where we end up in league! Thought Johnson should of been sent off but good refereeing there by Webb, wisdom did a good job too I thought! But we need to turn our good performances into wins and soon

Finally an intelligent post rather than the rubbish most of the other people post after we lose

Alan Partridge

He should have played them from the start, then take them off. Original team had no attacking force due to Rodgers being too scared to attack at old Trafford

"Thought Johnson should have been sent off, so good bit of refereeing from Webb"

Wouldn't that be bad refereeing then?

lol

It's only January and we are scoring goals. Thank you DS.

Surely it would have been better to start Sturridge and try go a goal in front and take him off with something to defend if he tired, rather than have to chase a game to old Trafford.brendan got selection wrong, simple as, second half performance told us as much. Rob b

Hi eds and Reds, According to Liverpool are in talks with Sneijder. that's why v offloaded Sahin, but if he is to sign he shld accept a pay-cut to his wages, which i think is possible because he needs a premier league move and i guess only Liverpool are in talks with his agent Soren Lerby. The Turkish champions Galatsaray have announced that they have agreed terms with Inter, but are still in talks with the creative midfielder over a move to the Turk Telekom Arena.Soren Lerby, the agent of Wesley Sneijder, has refuted suggestions that the Inter midfielder is on the verge of completing a transfer to Galatasaray. And Thomas Ince's return to Anfield is being held up by Blackpool's insistence on a sell-on clause and 8.5m asking price according to .

13 Jan 2013 17:12:12
Hello Ed002,
not a good score today, poor 1st half and a good 2nd half. Sturridge gives us quality and pace upfront. With Borini back, Suarez, Daniel and Sterling I think we`re well covered. We don`t need Walcott. I don`t want him either. Lucas and Allen were poor today, Steven not at his best. But I was proud Liverpool supporter today, esp in the 2nd half. I hope it`s going in the right direction. I hope Rodgers knows what he`s doing and who does he want to bring in now and in the summer. Let`s just keep our fingers crossed for good 2nd half of the season. Let`s keep our heads up. Cheers. {Ed002's Note - It was always going to be a big ask.}

13 Jan 2013 17:09:47
Not a rumour but a statement of fact. Skrtel and Dagger are not a good combination.

Any chance of some rationale with that statement sunshine? GAVP29

What's happening is our Midfield is lacking more that the central pairing... I'd take our TWO over Utd's.!

13 Jan 2013 17:09:09
Just a question, 4-4-2 right the second half? didn't watch the game properly...

FaZzY

Regers is 4 3 3 or die. hence we never
got hold of the ball in midfield. Even Carager looked good for them

No it wasn't, it was closest to the 4-3-3 system that BR wants that we've ever seen

No team play 442 could have ever conceded as much possition as we did today.

Really? Was suarez playing in the midfield trio as the furthest forward so? Josh

13 Jan 2013 17:08:38
I think we need a Hamman style defensive midfielder. Before all you newly found Lucas lovers slate me .. may i remind you that lucas is a attacking midfielder who has been thrown into the role of a defensive midfielder. He is a good squad player but he's not a natural organiser or defender.
Also i like Agger and Skrtle but neither are an organisor genral style defenders that we have had in prevous times like Carragher, Hypia etc etc... this is why we leak goals.
So that's two players for me who would make us a challenging team for the title 1) a good solid Defencive midfielder and 2) and organising defender.

We have the same centre halves that were part of one of the best defences in the PL last year. So your arguement is flawed.

The Irish Rover

Can you be reminded lucas is only back from a serious injury and prior to this was are player of the year give him time and imo skrtel and agger are organising more since carra lost his place as nobody could get a word in.tommy irish red

13 Jan 2013 17:08:24
Rumours abound in Boston that FSG are hiring a football analyst to try and decide what Allen does for the team. 15 million pounds, and neither he nor Rodgers seem to know. He is called the Welsh Xavi. Surely the real Xavi laughed his ass off when he heard that one!

Allen is a decent player but to be honest i don't think he's much better than spearing who cost us nothing.. infact i would say spearing is more energetic and less fearless. Just my opinion.

13 Jan 2013 17:08:15
Hi eds -despite a poor first half, I can see a forward line that will pull teams apart. I know its very early days but suarez and sturridge definitely seem to be on the same wave length! I like the fact they are versatile and will ineterchange during games. Sturridge looks frightening and like Suarez he will terrorise defences. Liverpool fans...please take heart from this defeat, (i know its hard - especially from Utd!) But we are slowly building a side which will undoubtly compe
te with the top four in a season or two....YNWA

13 Jan 2013 17:07:58
Ahoy - and I have to admit to being disappointed.

Have felt alot worse in previous times getting beaten by that lot.

Honest opinion- we were poor first half but chased the game well and almost got something out of it. Not worth singling individuals out for criticism.

Main positive for me is we don't own that Kagawa chap - he is pitiful and makes Henderson look like Zidane.

BOILED ONIONS

BOILED ONIONS

Your name has been noted and I will return to message you when your Kagawa quip is proven to be way, way wide of the mark!

Gav

I'd take him over Henderson, Allen or Downing anyday mate, Player of the season for champions Dortmund (can't see any of our lot doing that) and nearly only half the price

Kelly Red

He cost the manc's £16/18 million, and sahin was also player of the year for Dortmund so that doesn't say a lot about the German league
JJ

13 Jan 2013 17:04:54
i don't think sterling should start he was poor today he doesn't give us anything going forward get's shoved off the ball to easily very annoying to watch

...and in the first half, who was better for us?

13 Jan 2013 17:02:03
Sturridge & Suarez will undoubtebly form a great partnership.
Borini is a good squad player but he is no wear near first choice, hopefully we will sign another striker who is a poacher.

Issues which need to adressed. Many talk of how weak our attacking options are ! CORRECT but hopefully with Sturridge and the possibility of another striker this will resolve the issue.

I worry about the midfield.
-Allen
-Shelvey
-Downing
-Henderson
-Assaidi (None existant)

The above players are not IMO good enough to win the premier league. None of them influence the game, play vital passes or score goals. Shelvey has scored some to be fair, but at times the lad couldnt hit a barn door.

I think what is most worrying is none of our midfield BAR Gerrard are on the same page as Suarez, some passes that were fed through today was embarasing.

Lucas & Gerrard are the only players who are good enough to start imo. we need to sign more creative players such as SILVA-MATA-HAZARD-CAZORLA ETC.

I love liverpool so much but i think the problem lies in the midfield.

TheDARkNight

And we released sahin

henderson lucas gerrard

should be our midfield trio

A goal a game. Lol

13 Jan 2013 16:59:14
Entertaining second half, and we almost got something to show for it. Though, I've thought that too many times this season.

I think BR is a great coach, and consistently changes the tactics when they aren't working. My concern is that he seems to cling to a few players who clearly are struggling. Allen the most obvious, but Sterling too. I feel with Allen, BR may have the same syndrome as Kenny had last year with Adam. Adam was kenny's signing, and he stood by him irrespective of deficiencies. At current form, I really don't see how Allen can start over Henderson.

Sterling has really been ineffective for months, and with a few other options now, hopefully things will improve offensively. Sterling is simply not ready for prime time yet.

Lucas is not at match fitness, and I worry he may never reach the levels he reached last year, or else, it will take some time (fingers crossed).

We could certainly do with strengthening the midfield. What we need is a Yaya Toure. Obviously, he is an extreme example of a powerful midfielder, but I think we need a strong defensive mid who can move the ball well and can attack the net when called upon. For the life of me, I really don't know what type of player Allen is supposed to be. It seems that early on BR was simply trying to replicate his old Swansea team, which is difficult to do with a bunch of different players. Allen simply has not worked out.

Sturridge looks a solid addition, and one Suarez must be happy about. I really hope Borini comes good. Borini, Sturridge, Suarez looked good, even if it means that we don't play with wingers (we never have really.....).

I think we missed Enrique today. With Johnson on the LB, Wisdom and Downing were exposed.

Cheers lads. I for one am happy that the game ended competitively, which didn't look the case in first half.

Coop

13 Jan 2013 16:55:38
absolute rubbish.....Rodgers tactics are rubbish. Why did he not start with the second half team then change it. Everybody in the pub groaned when that team sheet was read out.
Sorry but 24 points off the pace at this stage of the season is poor & disappointing and not up to LFC standards. Sorry Brendan, but you are too inexperienced for such big games. Go before you are pushed out.

13 Jan 2013 17:11:11
Look 2-1 at oldtrafford isn't as bad as it could have been can't see how he's tactics where wrong apart not starting hendo for Allen, but sturidge isn't completely match fit yet why shove him to a game as big as this so early he broght him on at half time and that made a difference and unlucky not to knick a point out of a bad first half display but fans need to keep their heads up and not blame everyone at the club for everything united are top as they have that mentality that's what we need to work on to achieve anything.

Redman

Cone of it we've been around 7/8th for pasr 4 seasons + he don't have kuyt maxi bellamy meireles carroll at his disposal

Did they all moan because downing was playing?
Have to say I thought Downing played ok today not the worst on the pitch by a long shot. Some people seem to think its always his fault when we lose and give out about him even when we win its getting a little old now!
Campbell

Thanks for the support for the "Years" FEW MONTHS I've been at the Club

Youve truly been a Rock and your Un-Swaying loyalty means alot.

Even though i only had 1 striker for nearly all that time. It bring a tear to my eye.

Yours Sincerely

Who else is available out there who is affordable and long term? Unfortunatly even though our club is great and historic with a fantastic fan base we simply don't have the funds to excite managers like mourinho or gaurdiola.
The worst things we ever done was to rid Benitez and Dalglish and that was because many wanted them ojt and writing abuse on sites like this like rodgers is currently recieving.
We need to stick by rodgers because he is our manager and surely we can't afford these compinsation pay offs. Stick with this kid..he too is learni g and i sure he will be ok.

13 Jan 2013 16:42:12
Daniel Sturridge? 2 goals in less than 2 half games?
He hasn't even played 90 minutes for us yet and 2 goals?
Can't believe it? Looks like some posters were right about him? The greedy git 2 goals!!
When's he going to learn to pass it:):):)
Had you going there?
Told you Sturridge is just what we need? You can only pass it so much.....Goals change games!!
A front 3 all capable of scoring 25 goals plus a season and you will see a different Liverpool. I reckon we've got 2 out of the 3, we still don't know about Borini? Although I think he could make it. We also need a keeper?
kidmillions

He's only scored 1 goal really as my gran could score against mighty Mansfield so they don't count.

Maybe hesa super sub lol

NO prat he's scored 2 goals and stop with the my nan crap eh lad

Impressed by Sturridge again, work rate, eye for goal and the ability to be in the right place at the right time, i doubted his ability and thought we bought a dud but he will prove my own personal initial thoughts wrong, and giving the mancs a robbie fowler five finger salute, priceless! As much as a waste of money Carroll is, Sturridge will prove a bargain.

13 Jan 2013 16:41:17
If it was you'll never walk alone i heard towards the end of the game in the tele then it should be my duty to appreciate each and everyone of them. great one guys that you showed your class and your support for our management and the team in all. we should have nicked the game in my opinion after our great comeback in the second half. but in all we did have a poor first half so its square. the team too showed what they meant when sterling went. he wasn't quite his usual today. but sturridge, he did really well. allen was actually little poor today. but hope he gets better. dint know why lucas was removed instead of allen maybe just a precaution. i will wait till the last game of the season to judge BR's work. but till now its going well and i think if we can play the way we did second half we'll be near 4th eventually! goodbye and goodnight! 13 Jan 2013 16:36:38
Of course we're all disappointed - we've just lost to the team that we all want to beat above all others. But please keep a sense of perspective. Allen, Sterling and Wisdom were playing their first game at OT for us. This year is about laying the foundations for future years. I said 8th at start of season but I expect 6th now which is progress. Sturridge already looks to have increased our goal threat and Borini will come good. We need to be aiming for 6 pts every 3 games and if we can do that we won't be far off 4th. Nothing to be gained by being negative guys. BR here for at least 3 yrs and if he walks the walk we will be in better shape. FSG might think he can be our Jurgen Klopp but in Germany there's Bayern and in the PL there is Utd. City and. Chelsea and the tv money makes our 16th placed team much stronger than theirs. It's tough guys.

PiEInTheSkyMan

Nonsense...
wen allen was signed..was there a clause that read...Its my first season..and first visit to most away games..
so i won't perform like xavi...

13 Jan 2013 16:35:57
I've posted own view and then decided to look at others views (so to not be a folloer or sanitise own) I just don't get how 85-90% of people said before, during, and now after game about Joe Allenstein involvement at all.And yet Brendan can't or won't (cos he bought him) see it! all managers have favourites, but this is ridiculous-Brendan-You can fool some of the people someve the time etc etc.)And a large proportion saying same re Sturridge starting. and Sterlings in effectiveness. managers seem stubborn when vast majority can't be wrong. Its like there saying they see a master vision rest of us cannot. And ultimately it costs us all.Dont over complicate or be STUBBORN Brendan, your doing ok ish, but start that and ultimately you'll pay

Joe Allen was our poorest player today and looked a liability. BR has made an error in signing him and Borini and now just admit it by not playing them. The reason why we were so poor in the first half was that Allen was playing in an advanced midfield role and just looked awful. Even when he dropped deeper in the second half he was still ineffectual compared to Gerrard. As soon as Henderson replaced him, immediately Hendo played some incisive passes.
I'm afraid BR tactically seems inept. We are beyond half way through the season and he still does not know his strongest midfield set up.
We are not going to get anywhere near 4th this season and on that basis come the end of May I want to see BR walk.
He is not up to managing the best club in the land, we want one of the best managersn (or potentially one) around to lead our club. Can even the strongest BR supporter really say that he is that ?
G

13 Jan 2013 16:27:49
why on earth are people xcoming on here still complaning amd shifting every little blame to rodgers and his choices. today he showed as he did at everton that he can mix it up and have a plan be with different tactics and make good substitution. why you still critise ? i don't get it. old trafford is a tough place to go and we bossed and scared them seccond half due to chamges ?

in Rodgers i Trust

wolvo_Jake

Because lad he started wrong side(and it is becoming a habit) But worse was he took too long to change it! Having said that I think and hope he'll learn from these mistakes.Because you can see what he's trying to develop style wise

13 Jan 2013 16:35:04
Positives from today:

We controlled the second Half
The substitutions were correct-some would argue that the starting 11 was wrong....maybe in hindsight
Sturridge was a threat and linked well with midfield and LS. Also bagged his first PL Goal! Early signs are good from Sturridge.
Gerrard had a great second half, dominated the midfield.
We showed fight to get back into the game and were unlucky not to get a point.

The overall performance was not bad, I know people are going to come on here and dig individuals out but it is a team game, some weeks players will play well and some weeks they won't. It is very rare all 11 play well on the same day.

On a separate note I thought Howard Webb had a decent game.

Pleased there were no sending's off as I taking my 6 year old son to his first game at Anfield next week. I am praying for a win, his first Liverpool game was Tottenham away last season! I have been dreading Suarez getting sent off today so he would miss seeing his hero next week.

Anyway I will spend the evening sifting through the drivel that is going to be posted by the brain dead.......He's crap, the owners are crap, Rodgers is crap, he should never wear a red shirt again blar blar blar!

Good luck ed's!

GGK

Credit where it's due to Webb we all slated him but did well

13 Jan 2013 16:23:42
Sterling was not playing well either was Downing. We need big improvements. A quality winger, and a creative midfielder. Sneijder and Alonso type of player (not neccesarily one of them of course.)
When you look at our missings, 2-1 against United is okay. But as a huge fan you are always dissapointet. We have to spend this january and spend big in the summer.
Sorry for my bad english :)

Downing is crap, Sterling bottles it in big games, we ave no more money for players unless we sell first.

You could have been telling your joke in them days about Xavi?

ed001, as I was reading here i see people saying that we're interested in CBs if Coates leaves.. in your opinion is Sama not worth a shot? heard good things about Sama and Wisdom last year on this site, but ive never seen him play to comment.

some liverpool fans need to stop slating BR and the players a real fan would get behind the manager and players fans that do nothing but slate the team need to go support another team the fact is you aren't helping our player all you are doing is adding to the pressure.

Sturridge on the bench. Come on

Players should start playing better

A Liverpool team should have turned up with more fight. F, right we blame BR.

Why should BR have more of a break than KD had? What has he ever done for the club?

Br is at fault he picks allen to help the team play the br way. the br way does not work see the change to day in the second half there is a reason we are 24 points behind man you and the fact we have not beaten a team above us in the league and the reason is br and his tactics he needs to learn from to day because borini and sturridge did well and deserve a chance and even henderson as he is better than allen we all want br to suceed but any one with a reasonable iq can see where the buck stops . i hope having an opion is not seen as slating br off . red mick tag

What a load of twaddle your saying so a real fan doesn't moan just sits there saying nothing and excepts mediocrity from there team, well for me a real fan hates to see there team play badly and vents there frustration it's because we love LFC and that first half was a disgrace simples cheers pk

Worst Liverpool I have seen in my 29 years! Disgraceful

Sturridge isn't fit enough to play a full match, at least BR brought him on in the second half, better late than never. Get behind the team and the manager or go support another team as the original poster said, you are not helping.
DublinRed.

We beat west ham when they were above us

When the team plays like they did due to a serious error in tactics (playing Allen behind Suarez) and then lose because of those tactics then the manager is 100% accountable. This is a LFC fans forum and we have the right to have our view point. BR is not going to bring success to this club - he is too inexperienced. LFC is not the training ground for him to learn his trade.
G

Dublin Red you have to set tone at Man you wether it was Sturridge or Borini or even a half each an inexperienced tired Outve form Sterling AND an inconsistent Downing was a huge risk

13 Jan 2013 16:17:09
The thing that annoys me the most is the fact that BR started downing, when sturridge is clearly better. Add that to the fact that Downing exposed Wisdom to both evra and kagawa time and time again, which led to their first goal.

If I was BR i would've taken downing off after 15 mins as he was so clearly out of his depth and it was obvious that he would be the one to let us down.

Downing and Sterling didn't provide any support for Suarez, which was why he wasn't really in the game in the first half. When Sturridge came on, Suarez had someone to link up with and came in to the game. This also gave our midfielders something to aim their passes at, because along with Borini, Suarez and Sturridge were making clever dangerous runs.

So although Allen wasn't brilliant, you can't really blame him that much for being reluctant to pass it forwards, as all he could have done in the first half is play it in to Suarez, who would've lost it within 5 seconds.

If we play like we did in the last 25 mins for the rest of the season, then we will be very exciting to watch, as Borini and Sturridge will make us much more direct. But even if we do play really well from now on, sadly we probably won't get fourth spot, as 9 points is a lot to make up on at this stage of the season, especially when there's 3 other teams competing for the same spot.

we can't really blame allen...
go home mate..u are drunk..
wen was the last time he was brilliant..
he isnt good enough for 15 mill..

we need a quality winger...
arda turan..above downing..

ince will not add anything better than downing coming from cl...

remove allen and put honda..

simple

"You can't really blame Allen" are you sure you watched the same game? - He was shocking. I am sorry Joe Allen is not good enough for Liverpool FC and in the case of Sterling, today was a boy against men. BR's tactics and team formation/ selection in the first half, was too negative and it was obvious to all, that Suarez was badly isolated and the game was crying out for Sturridge. The second half team should have started the game, I am sure we will get stronger as the season progresses and it was also nice to see Bacon face's bum twitching towards the end - YNWA

In my opinion Daniel Sturridge will become a Kop hero on the same scale as fernando torres, genuinely think he's going to be star!

Jack the Grooove

Agreed he has no hesitation and isnt afraid to shoot

Ha glad to see your not getting carried away, what about when he could squared across the box but chose to shoot wide he's a scav

Think it will be hard for for to be as good as torres was at his best, but the Suarez, Sturridge and Borini line up when it gel's fully seems like it will be scary, and the best forward line we have had in years imo,

Awful display first half, I hate loosing to the mancs most of all its its not fine to accept defeat, however I'm still behind although I didn't agree with the starting line up, promising signs of a striking partnership, glad to have a full compliment of attacking players, Sterling needs a good long rest so does allen, hendo needs to slot in now I think his played well this season, Loosing to Man united hurts but as much as we don't like to admit it, they are the best team in England, the table doesn't lie no shame in loosing baring the first half display. You never walk alone was ringing near the end, I love to see that if so many can still get behind the team that actually attend games why can't some of these so called fans on this site do the same. Anyone calling for Roger's head after loosing to the Man united should question what type of supporter you are, coz better teams have been killed by them this season. No excuses or delusions I'm highly annoyed by the loss, but this shows how far we still have to go and sacking Rogers is not the answer. Leem

13 Jan 2013 16:07:01
Almost everyone on this page is so negative about everything Rodgers does you don't go to old Trafford and expect to control the game the main reason we got back into the game was they took the foot if the gas and couldn't get back into it but sturridge did make a difference and the link Suarez made in midfield. Good second half

You know wot from all the negativity I'm hearing from our fans toward Benitez, we don't deserve a manager like him the way we are dealing about him, Chelsea didn't deserve him, he came and have made a huge difference in their way to play, and this its the difference we wudve get on Benitez on charge raTher than Rodgers, this guy its clueless, hi the hell going to alow Allen stayin in the pitch and takin our midfield engine out on Lukas, if a manager cannot spot that during a game, I'm sorry we don't have a future under him, the worst manager they are hu always trying 2 price their signings, this its 1 of the reason Allen stayed, dosnt matter hu you bring I'd its flop its flop try another option wile you see a improvment, this its wot happen to king Kenny he always tried hard to price his signing, and benchin maxi hu had a good runs of game hatrix after hatrix, and benching him for floppy downing just triying to price his signing. This kind of behaiver Benitez never sieve done, that's wy he is a different class manager.

Wait my old english teacher posts here?

13 Jan 2013 16:20:54
Lucas didn't have a much better game then Allen did, given his just come back from injury his engine is not where it was just yet, You have a problem with Kenny and Rogers, so you agree we should have a new manager every season? Your knowledge is no better than your Grammar, we don't need more clueless fans its embarrassing. Leem

I spoke to Brendan on his mobile during the game, he said that Lucas came off and not Allen because he'd been booked.
Later on Allen got booked and came off for Henderson. Good Management? Too late once the 2nd yellow comes?

I can barely make out what you said, but I think you're saying Benitez is great, Rodgers is crap. Benitez was able to buy Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Reina, Johnson and he had Gerrard in his prime. Rodgers won't be able to have that kind of money. Benitez used to frustrate me by always keeping one up top, even if we were losing 2 nil. BR is a good manager, don't take your frustration of losing to the Mancs out on him

Personally I like Kenny Rogers?

Listen I don't know wot you been watchin premier league or any another league, the money that Liverpool have already spent after Benitez departure, its been a huge amount of money this should be enough in wining the league, we cant, wy? we do shokking signing, and appoint manager hu we expect a lot but that decisition its makin it harder 4 us, and easier 4 team like arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and etc. While wif Benitez he useto get players in a cheap becouse his knowledge in spottin player was the best, il tell after sellin Torres hi he wudve bougt, falcao, Alexis Sanchez, Gareth bale, showcross, hazzard, Mata, and many more, becouse he usto split them in their earlier carrear, and any player in their earlier carrear they are not expensive once they pick up, then goes up.

United fan here..

I thought it was a decent game and we deserved to win.

liverpool looked good in the last 20min but johnson should probably have been given a second yellow for his rugby tackle..

sturridge looks good and him and suarez will probably make a good partnership.

JK92

Deserved to win? Your second goal was offside ?! So no you didn't deserve to win at all.

London red

No arguments from me, JK; well done.
And the anticipated controversy is in the later game.
Ps. that Dutch lad upfront looks a bit tasty for you.
Rigsby.

Man Utd were better on the day. We had too many passengers (Sterling and Allen). Can't believe Young didn't get a booking for going through Agger. Was barely mentioned. Agger did him a favour by not screaming and rolling around like a certain Mr Evans did against Shelvey.

13 Jan 2013 16:57:16
Can't disagree that United deserved to win over the 90 minutes, but I think Johnson was fouled by Valencia and it would have been harsh to give a yellow to Johnson.

Decent Utd fan and post.Nice to have a reasoned debate with rivals

13 Jan 2013 16:05:02
Come on lads cheer up we have some great positives from that game.Fergie was worried there sending on defenders to close the game out.2nd half we were the better team.

True, however, most of us have seen how poor Allen's form has been, so questioning his start over Henderson is objective and reasonable. As well, I think Sturridge, although only his second game, should have started over Sterling or Downing. My choice would be Sterling. He hasn't performed well since November.

13 Jan 2013 17:37:14
Great, we scared Fergie! We all knew he was scared all along...I don't undersand why we are suddenly bowing down to United and being all grateful that we didn't lose by a bigger margin! On our day we are a much better side, they are more consistent than us, and often get by on dodgy decisions...there is no reason on earth why we couldn't have battered them off the pitch today. The attitude we played with i'm surprised they didn't go round after, thanking the United players for letting us off lightly today. Hideous match

13 Jan 2013 16:04:35
I hope my first post gets shown as by reading the other posts pre mine, then its clear most people on this site would be better at managing the team.
Its so obvious whos having a shocker of a game, maybe BR needs to watch the match on TV then he may change tactics and personell a lot sooner before further damage is done.
Alternatively he can call me for some advice, not rocket science is it? he's playing crap replace him x 3 times.
O well ill stick to earning and working doing a proper living, as being a footy manager is way to easy really.

Get then picture then guys?
433, you need football quality,
you need to be able to buy players like chelsea can,
you need one of the 3 up front to be Messy,
you need skill to keep that ball in midfield,
between 3 play maker players
IS this really LIVERPOOL now?
Fergi knew very well how to win this game,
pack out midfiled and pick off chances.

433 is fine for me but we need to be more versitle.
433 or loose results in loose in most cases so far.

Kenny Dalglish.

We could of had quality players if you didn't flush 100 million on league 1 players

U helped to make liverpool and helped to destroy it

Full circle i'd say

How dare you use Kenny's name in such a nonsensical post.

Souness said similar and that Brendan needs to be more flexible in formation.some opposition may require 4 4 2. so don't be stubbornly rigid Brendan

What does souness know, he was the one that started our demise all those years ago. Rob b

True lad above but he's correct on that ONE point fella

13 Jan 2013 16:03:21
Positives today;
Sturridge
Sturridge / Suarez partnership
Borini back playing again

Negatives today;
Allen (horrendous game)
Sterling as above
Not turning up in the first half

Overall we are still in working progress mode but the performance in the second half was encouraging.

It's alright having lots of possession but its having the right balance that we are missing. Suarez and Sturridge worked really well together today but I think we need someone of Sneijder's calibre to balance the team out. Get Sneijder in and the balance of the team would be complete.

13 Jan 2013 16:03:08
We have no idea how to play against the top teams, there is no plan be at all.
BR is totally out of his depth as manager, and performances prove it.

SAF says he is not concerned about LFC as opposition anymore, sadly its true.

We can sing our little songs, and write our little posts, but sadly we are no longer a force in the EPL... 24pts behind the leader, proves this fact.

United fan clearly

RB

You mean that you're a loser and you have to blame it on Liverpool. #over reacting like a small child. Fowler99

You 'orrible negative little oik! You absolutely do not support LFC.

How can any true LFC fan click disagree ?
We played well with the squad we have TRUE however, the squad we have is no where near capable of challenging for the premiership.
Sadly we need to ship out a few players, ALLEN-HENDO-SHELVEY are squad players at best we need midfielders who influence the game not pass back and sidewards

13 Jan 2013 16:02:13
I'm proud in end.But same story-unlucky, doesn't bring the points.I just don't get why Brendan often seems to start with the wrong team! Ok Sturridge ain't had many games but he should've started. That and in my opinion Allen remaining on pitch insteadve Hendo were key points. And worse is it took too long to recognise and change it.Both midfield and uptop we needed more physical presence.Suarez was isolated, with 3 men closing him at times. And To be a central Midfielder in middle of a diamond/or holding-unless you have outstanding Pirlo or iniesta style ability (which he hasn't) Allen offers very little.hes either a front of diamond player or you don't play him.And we were over ran.Lucky not2-3 down at h/t.But when changes made (too late) we could and should've had at least a point.Feel there is positives in Brendan's approach and style, but too often wrong start sides selected. How did he take so long ie.to see Sterlings in effectiveness? Stevies correct we do need some more experience/ know how from quality players to blend with youngsters. So in summer Fsg should back him.But for a change I agree with Souness 4 4 2 today would've been an option as wider men of front three where not tucking in and supporting Suarez in first half.At times maybe Brendan could be more flexible in his thinking formation wise.over all decent signs but Brendan could've been a lot more.Like side you need to learn quickly

13 Jan 2013 16:01:43
First time Liverpool were able to play 3 strikers off each other and once all three players get a better understanding its good to see... that we have so many options up front now.

In the first half... you have to give Rodgers the benefit and going to Old Trafford tried to weather the early storm.

We cannot say this was a bad tactic and at one point going to almost a 70/30 possession in the second half... with 3 strikers up front i think there were alot of positives.

Window still open and a second half that shows what is possible when Brendan has all players available.

Disappointed with the result... but encouraging.

Lets be honest Rodgers rubbish himself, and that's why he started with the team he did it was only when he had nothing to lose the he changed it and it was to late by then. He's a bottler.

13 Jan 2013 15:58:18
We were almost a good team again. Can't wait for that team to show up for 90 minutes. I think Allen needs a long holiday, and I am worried that one good game has convinced BR that Downing is the answer on the wing. He should be sold ASAP.

And Sterling is then?

Lyndon

13 Jan 2013 15:55:01
For those who still doubt Sturridge, that's 2 goals in 2 matches... 2-in-2, and his link-up with Suarez looks promising. With the return of Borini, this fully-fit front 3 is going to cause a lot of problems for defences. Singred

At the end of the day, we are 24 points behind the leaders (Man U), is that progress.
Sorry BR, you are tactically naïve, and inexperienced.
Allen was shocking, £15m for what I ask.

Wrong. Sterling was our no-show today unfortunately. He's having a poor spell just now.
Lots of good stuff second half, just unlucky not to get at least a point. Had them totally hanging on there at the end.

Only read down a few posts and seen some positivity which is good to see compared are normal negative crap. 1st half we was really poor (man united not much better) but second half defo deserved a draw. Sturridge I mean already what a impact player and a great but from BR. We dropped 3 points but it we can keep suarez next season ill be very optimistic.

London red

Lets be honest here.. 1st half we were terrible.. sh** if truth be told.. Allen isn't good enough.. Maybe Rodgers can see some thing that every one else cant, I doubt that Suarez will stay, said it before he will wake up one day & say I want to play for a contender & LFC arent bringing in quality to compete..

13 Jan 2013 15:52:35
One good thing.. Sturridge.. Joe Allen needs to miss a couple of games along with Sterling, but I was happy with the second half..It's coming together.

Totally agree allen isnt fit to wear the liverbird sterling definitely needs that rest one plus is sturridge looking to link with suarez is a positive

13 Jan 2013 15:52:25
Yet again I'm on this website and all you lot are saying we deserved more from the game! Well I'm sorry to say that I'm getting sick of it now, it's time we turned these games into points! Rodgers had to change it coz it we were awful in 1st half, I'm liking the link up play between Suarez and sturridge, even Borini linked up well too in a cameo role! Plus sturridge 2 goals in 2 games and he's not even fit....I do believe we will get there under Rodgers but we need to start believing we can go to places like old Trafford and win the game! There was no belief in that 1st half! Today's game proves that Suarez needs help up front! Let this be a turning point to having a good end to the season now

13 Jan 2013 15:49:31
why o why do Liverpool not turn up for 90 plus mintes week in week out.
Why do we persisit in Glen Johnson at right back, he's so lethargic its untrue, maybe good going forward at times but today seemed lost.
Why does a manager not realise after 28 minutes that we were poorer then we were for 55 minutes.
why doesnt he change things when everyone else sees it.
Why does he persist with Joe Allen, its time to say well ive made a mistake and move him on unless he improves greatly.
Were was Downing today, ive never seen such a lack lustre 50 minutes and against a very average United side.
I think its time the manager and the players looked at themselves in the mirror and realise this simply isnt good enough.
the only thing consistent about LFC is the inconsistency im afraid.
In all honesty we were like 11 headless chickens playing today, and why can't a bloke on thousands a week make a pass.

The manager made changes at half-time. Despite a poor first half, we still managed to hold them to 1-0. You'd have taken that at half-time.

13 Jan 2013 15:48:32
We did ok in the end. I don't think we were set up right from the start. Having said that Downing as we all know offers no goal threat, Wisdom is not a right back and young and nervous, Sterling is also young and not offering much of a goal threat. Reina? 2nd goal was well saveable for a good goalie. We looked more dangerous with Sturridge, Borini and Suarez late on; which also made our midfield more confident and they started playing much better? Allen and Gerrard in particular who had been anonymous suddenly started to play. How nervous were their players considering most of them have won everything. That was our real problem I think, we were too nervy early on.
kidmillions

Vidic's touch on Evra's header was simply unfortunate.

A deflection that close to the line is just one of those things. Pepe had no time to see it, deal with it or stop it.

When Sky show back the footage, as they did earlier during the game. Not even Vidic knows about it and it hit his face.

Kidmillions - the 2nd goal was deflected, not even on target till it struck vidic in the face and changed the flight of the ball, you are very harsh on reina i think.
my two pennies worth was the better team lost, over all we were better however first half we were very poor attacjking wise but 2nd half played well and unlucky not to get a point. sturridge looked a threat linked up well with king louis can't wait for them to play together some more as it looked very good

gra2966

13 Jan 2013 16:18:29
If in doubt blame reina, dear me. You have obviously never played football, the touch off vidic changed the pace and direction of the ball. Dont blame individuals, the team were poor up until the second goal, rodgers got his team and tactics wrong today but he's young and hopefully he will have learnt a lesson today. Sounds like a heat of the moment post kidmillions, i'm sure when you have calmed down you will look at it again and change your mind about reina on that one.

Waro

2nd goal came from a deflection, reina hardly to blame. Johnson left 2v1 at back post more to blame, Simonpw

Technically speaking the goal was also offside. but no one seems to pick up on this. It was way more offside that Suares' goal if you can remember it.

If the ball changed direction from a deflection? Then i agree and stand corrected. It seemed to me though to just skim Vidic's head and not change direction at all and was straight at Reina. Will no doubt get analyzed on MOD later? So we'll see.
World Class keepers have brilliant reactions, that is what makes them World Class. I might be wrong on this goal but Pepe can no longer be considered World Class? I'm right on that.

Better team lost? are you joking, united took there foot off the gas which allowed is back into the game for the last 20 mins, we were dominated for the first half.

13 Jan 2013 15:46:44
Hi all,

Very dissapointed with the result, please, please, please, before the slating of players start (or continues), we also have to understand that we went to old trafford, played the top of the league and lost by one goal and had quite a few chances to come away with a point towards the end of the second half. I know people are already slagging Allen off, my personal opinion is that he should have come off instead of Lucas and brought Shelvey on for a more attacking threat, but only because that's what the game needed. He didn't ask to be bought for the amount he was, and he also doesn't pick himself in the starting 11 so please get off his back.

I can see the team starting to develop and I do think Sturridge is going to be a class signing and also produce a lot more space for Suarez and I think going forward, we'll see a brilliant partnership form there. It is always a bitter pill to swallow losing to the Mancs but they're top of the table for a reason and as much as it puts me in an awful mood for the rest of the weekend, i do see us improving and there's still a long way of the season to go.

I support Liverpool, always have and always will, and that includes all players that wear the red jersey. Unlucky today lads, when we woke up, good second half, but need to be more consistent over 90 mins and then we'll see better results.

Lucas had been booked, so Allen stayed on. Later even though Allen was now playing much better he came off shortly after getting booked. I think Brendan was just trying to keep 11 players on the pitch? Brendan didn't get everything right today imo but he did get the substitutions right.

Context is King.

I saw Fergie bring on two central defenders with the last 15 minutes of that game remaining.

Fergie protected his lead because he could see an eventuality that Liverpool equalised. Neither team were on fire today. But United win often when they don't play great. As Hansen says quite often.

13 Jan 2013 15:46:36
Do you people not understand? We lost because of Rodgers stubbornness he believes in his way an will not change it... I was furious with the team selection... Allan in for Henderson? Sterling 18 an not ready for an away game at old trafford!

13 Jan 2013 15:44:47
not going to slag the team only thing i am gutted about is maybe we should of attacked them from the start, much the better side when we attacked them an would like the team that finished the game to start against arsenal.stirling for me really doesnt offer much at the moment and i am looking forward to see sturidge an suarez gel! unlucky today.

Our defense is 100% overrated by us

13 Jan 2013 15:43:13
Bad tactics by Rodgers today we sat back let them have control! Should have started Henderson instead of Allen and Sturridge instead of Downing and gone for it!

Second half showed if we had gone for it they where vulnerable!

NS

Except that Downing had a fairly good game. Sterling had a terrible match and that is why he was removed. Downing was tidy in possession (except a few stray passes) and provided a few threats down the right

Sturridge isn't match fit yet and wouldn't have lasted 90 minutes, he said himself after the Mansfield game that he was exhausted and was taken off after 55 minutes. BR tried to contain them in the 1st half and keep it level at half time then bring DS on but it wasn't to be, thought we deserved at least a draw, they were hanging on at the end!
JJ

Did you ever think that Downing would pop up with a goal, 433 demands that the front 3 all have a goal threat?
I actually like Downing but he doesn't fit in the system and is definitely getting shop windowed. Sterling has great potential but is very young and not a great physical presence or goal threat.

PASS PASS PASS with no real effect, johnson is one of the worse defenders in english football been saying it for years shocking first half, second half was better and when sturridge came on we was a threat and when henderson came on are passing was gelling in midfield and like alot of people have been saying we are a long way off top 4 quality.

Rubbish, johnson is a good defender!
teeno1lpool

Johnson is class.

Alot of the players under performed in the 1st half.

Move on..

Lee YNWA

I think Johnson was one of our better players defensively HullRED

13 Jan 2013 16:11:15
Are you lot simple he can not defend a defender is not suppose to let the opposition to cross the ball. And majority got crossed in from the right he was getting beat in one on ones, going forward ye he's good but for the money that he's on i expect him to be able to defend and be able cross the ball in with his left foot and not kick it out of play for a goal kick and if you lot can't see that then your short sighted.

You pal must be blind, obviously your amazing powers of observation failed to spot which player it was that was the wrong side of not one but two manc palyers for the second and secisive goal. I suggest you watch match of the day and this time pay attention.
From an observant Hull Red

Johnson is a pure class and is the least of our problems?
kidmillions

For the second goal, there were 2 players free at the back. Granted, Johnson was picking up Evra but who was picking up Vidic who scored the goal. Was Evra's header going in? Did Vidic's touch make the difference? Im not sure, would have to look at it again.

Really having my reservations about Allen, Gerrard is a breathing Kop icon and doesn't shy away from critics so I don't think we can defend Allen. Made a few interceptions but offered nothing, Hendo should've started or atleast came on at half time.

Why must be peg ourselves back every game. Our first halfs are always shocking. Some one should tell them that a game is 90mins long. Today, FA cup final, Chelsea, Villa etc.

Even through all this, me may have finally found Suarezs partner in Sturridge, even though the second goal was soft defending both Skrtel and Agger were somewhat solid and we all hate losing to the mancs but now we must face the other ones, lets take each game as it comes for the millionth time.

13 Jan 2013 15:41:19
I didn't realise Howard Webb had transferred form United to Liverpool? ;) Johnson should have been off, Skyrtl could have been off (but yellow probably right) and why did he stop play after you'd had an attack but then before we could (when Reina was down)?

Anyways, I hope that ends the whole Webb-United conspiracy....as if, lol.

On a serious note, you lot improved 2nd half and caused us a few problems. I thought we deserved the win overall but there were at least some positives for you guys.

Glad there wasn't too much controversy.

Changes made great improvement
Small margins make the difference
Progress being made.
Trolls go support another team.
Saurez Borini Sturridge
We now have threats.

Pistol Pete

Good post Pete, completely agree. I hate it when we lose to ManU more than any other team, but not completed deflated after today's second half performance. Good to see Sturridge score and Borini back today. Hopefully we can get (at least) one more forward option in Jan (Ince?) and push on for the remainder of the season.

13 Jan 2013 15:39:17
Well, what looked like what could have been soccer suicide in the first actually turned into a good game in the second. Im not too sure if the tactics were to stifle Utd in the first half but it certainly didn't work. I just wish we had started with a bit more belief because in the second half they were there for the taking. Alas, its too late now. Thought Webb done well. My Liverpool MoM would Wisdom although he could have been quicker out to Evra for the first goal. Could do better? Allen! Annonymous in the first half when we had the extra man in midfield.

The Irish Rover

Webb did well for you. Johnson should have went and why did he allow Liverpool to attack United whilst Reina was down, then as soon as we attack blows the whistle. What was that all about. I think he overcompensated for the stick he gets from Liverpool supporters by trying is hardest to even things out for you. Well I expect City will win, but always nice to do the double over Liverpool.

Disney!

I think you(Disney) should take a breath and realise what you're saying re Webb..

One decent game reffing Liverpool vs Utd, doesn't change the terrible, shocking decisions he's made on YOUR behalf over the years!

You deserved the win though, no question.

Poor tactics by BR cost us the game.
Changes should have been made in the first half.
BR, needs to learn faster than he is presently.

Sorry to say, Allen is just a waste of time, contributed nothing at all.

Well said br a joke...a very naive man..

13 Jan 2013 15:38:19
Think Suarez could be useful in a CAM/CF role. Lucas, Gerrard in mid. Sturridge/Borini/Sterling/Ince as a top 3. Think if we had a player like Sissokko next to Lucas we'd be better off because we need someone physical with a good engine and he has just that.

13 Jan 2013 15:37:46
Just shows that if you get at utd they can be sloppy at the back too . Think we showed good spirit in the second half apart from the second goal where we switched off . We need to play like that in all our games and not just against utd . By the way wasnt vidic offside when the ball is headed off him ? Come on reds support the boys we played well second half . Let's not give up . Cheers

13 Jan 2013 15:35:50
All we need to do is sort out that Midfield 3, Lucas and Allen haven't really clicked together yet (obviously it could come good in time), but we need Henderson's work rate, that Man Utd midfield should not have dominated us in the first half as easy as they did.

I'm still optimistic for the future though, Man Utd maybe top but they aren't that much better than us!

O

I agree with the allen lucas comment but to say there not much better is a joke any realistic fan would know there miles ahead of us.hence the 20 odd points diffrence go out an buy some quality players add to the squad we were terrible first half.Allen had a stinker downing was poor second half we did alot better but i can't help but think if we was abit more confident in the first half it might have been diffrent

i'll make you famous

24 points says they are mate

24 points clear are you sure

I'm looking at the future, not the points tally, this season was always going to be a write off, liverpool has to be rebuilt.

O

13 Jan 2013 15:35:41
Allen must go!! he's had too many opportunities to prove himself and he played like TRASH today! I cannot believe that rodgers has so much faith in him, if we had the second half team from the start it would have been a completely different story

People said the same thing about hendo and now most would like him in the team so give him time

13 Jan 2013 15:35:14
1st half very bad
2nd half better but still sloppy, with the passing.
I notice that many of the games we have played under Brenden's tactics. We like to play the all at the back that causes teams to push up on us this causes mistakes. I would like us to push the ball forward or mix things up. Get teams on the back foot.

From Dan H

13 Jan 2013 15:34:52
Hi everyone, I don't no why BR never started with Suarez and Sturridge at start, I also would put Henderson before Allen he has better engine defending and attacking and don't pass side to side only we are 9 points off 4th now going to be very tough we where only 4 points off few games ago.

Lfc fan from Cardiff.

13 Jan 2013 15:34:19
far better second half,

Dissapointed for sure but there were some key positives to come out of the game.

It showed that we are able to transist during a game and change the set up and that made a huge difference going foreward in the second half

Sturridge and Borini impact was good and the front three of Sturridge Borini Suarez was working well together,

In reality a win was unlikely and we certainly didn't disgrace ourselves.

As much as we should have capitalised, the fact that the teams around us slipped up means we havnt lost much if any ground on them!

Lets pick ourselves up for Norwich and then onto Arsenal and City

Well that was just as expected wasn't it. We play like crap and now all of us can enjoy the mancs gloating in the coming days. Oh how I hate these games. And a goal by n..rito as well. Oh man, it doesn't get any worse than that. It actually physically hurts. So that's 0 out of 6 points against them this season. Somebody shoot me!

13 Jan 2013 15:34:06

13 Jan 2013 15:33:07
Didnt deserve to lose in the end, their second was offside if it came off vidic, sturridge suarez and borini combined well in the last 20 mins, reasons to be positive, just defensive mistakes costing us again...

Alan Partridge

We deserved to lose based off the first half alone, no desire there and outclassed in midfield.

The result is what matters in the end so we lost, boohoo lets move on to the next one.

mozzilfc

Skrtel should have seen red and Johnson should of got a second yellow.

Agreed. We looked good in second half. Plenty of attacking possession and many striking options now.

I have a good feeling that Sturridge will be great for us.

A bit concerned at the lack of form showed by Allen and Sterling recently.

Jonny five

I would say Liverpool's efforts towards the end deserved something from the game, we were poor for the last 25 minutes. But it could have and should have been over at halftime. I don't think you have a single shot on target until the goal and did you have a shot on target afterwards?

United/Liverpool games will always be close, even if Liverpool was relegated to the Championship you would still give us a good game. But the truth is the difference in class is seen in the table. 24 points difference just 21 games into the season. In fact Kenny was doing better than this last season.

Disney!

Its not like United played well in the first half, when we started playing they couldn't handle us, Utd play well in the first half its just we were poor, I think a draw would have been a fairer result.

Alan Partridge

Didn't deserve to lose in the end!! What game were you watching? United should've been 4 up at half time. They should've had a stick on penalty when Wisdom took out Kagawa when he went to score. If you're going to give an opinion make it a true reflection of the game. United did the professional job at the end to close out the game. Live with it.

An Dun Red Devil

You miss your chances that doesnt mean you deserve to win the game what about your offside goal? Pipe down and stick to your own page

Alan Partridge

No, if Utd missed a lot of chances it means they MUST have been dominating the game which means they MUST have deserved to win the game. It's quite straightforward really. Even for you.

13 Jan 2013 15:32:59
At least we can see That Suarez and Sturridge look like they'll
Link up well together!!

But sterling got to make his mind up what he's going to do has the balls coming to him. He was like a headless Chicken today

Lyndon

He is young and inexperienced, the occasion maybe have got the better of him. It is a massive fixture, at the biggest away ground in the league; the pressure can get to experienced pro's so I will give him a break.

I also think the movement of our midfield in the first half was poor at times so there were not many options or midfield players making runs to free up space.

I hope he is used more sparingly for the rest of the season to give him a rest.

Brendan Rodgers has once again shown that he is not the manager totake the club forward. He's not beaten a club in the top 6 this year. This clearly shows what level he is suited for. If we're not careful we will become the new Aston Villa. We are further behind then ever and are not going to be making any strides forward with him in charge.

Totally disagree with you and i hope for the sake of liverpool football club that many many fans also disagree with you.

Obviously you didn't see the game

He has only been here a few months for god sake give him some time to get it right. Why is it that every time we lose we get people like you on here saying sack the manager give us a break, you are embarrassing.

There are also 3 teams in the top 6 that haven't beat us this year, the team is improving steadily hope we can add a couple more players with a goal threat before the end of Jan.

And what's your answer, sack him and give another month looking at the circus which we had the last time when we needed a manager.

Finally, a Man Utd - Liverpool without a controversy in a long time.

Sad to see us lose, and especially the first half. However, BR will be here for a long time. He knows the game. Bringing on Sturridge and Borinig going for it to get that point is genius. Not many managers do that at OT.

Only negative from the game - Dropping 3 points. However, there are so many positives.

Sturridge - Suarez partnership.
Character of the team in the second half, to show fight.
BR knows what he is doing. It will take time. Hopefully, he is given time and support from the management.
Lucas - Gerrard - Henderson would be my ideal midfield. Allen is quite of the pace at the moment. that's why he could not hassle their midfield in the first half.
I am looking forward to a bright future. Hopefully BR stays.

mgz

Well said. We just lacked steel in the midfield.

BigD

Thank you for posting this. I completely agree with every part of it. Sad to see us lose but second half looked good minus the goal.

Red Rat

Completely agree. Im looking forward to the future under Rodgers. This isn't going to be an overnight fix. There's no sugar daddy, oil-rich billionaire throwing cash at us. And frankly, I don't want that. Good effort second half today. Let's just get back to supporting our great team together. We need a long period of sustained trust, stability and growth, and I think we'll see it.

Good post MGZ...nice to see someone on here who's positive. We were playing top of the league today and overall weren't outclassed. Thought BR showed he can make changes and has a plan B.

I don't care what anyone else says on here, but Allen is not and never will be good enough. Lucas should have stayed on and Allen replaced. Pleased with Sturridge, and we definitely dominated the second half, shame no more goals though.

Unfortunately Lucas was on a yellow. Maybe it would have been Allen otherwise. I'm giving BR the benefit of the doubt.

13 Jan 2013 15:32:05
Great effort from the lads today. What I've been able to see from the season this far is BR has changed our fortunes around playing against the smaller clubs and he is in a learning curb on how to play against the big clubs. Where as KK knew how to play against the big clubs but couldn't find a way to beat the small clubs. This in mind i still think we will be in the top 4 come the end of the season as BR will learn from his mistakes quicker than any one!

We'll get 50 points tops, top 10 placement

I'm just going to say one thing. We were never favourites in this game, but in the second half, we played really well. Maybe this will make the owners want to spend some money, as we nearly matched the probable champions. With performances like the one in the second half, we can get to the top with Brendan.

although we lost today there was alot of possitives and i for one am really proud of the plauers and the manager in perticular. lacluster first half. terrific second half. just not quiet which sums up our season but showm we can still slog itwith the best atm soo encouraging signs

wolvo_Jake

Totally agrre Wolvo..We have had terrible first half and good second.. Couple of points that were positive.. Downing is not good and possibly BR would be more convinced to replace him..i would even take Tom Ince over him any day.. Wisdom is not great at going forward but he is CB and once Kelly is back and Enrique back to full fitness he wil revert to Natural role but really good prospect for future. Lucas and Allen shouldn't play together as too deep but I think Allen will work just need time to work and like Lucas he could be good buy..Maybe dropping him to Sub bench will make him work harder.. Borini is back which is good news and I can see Sturidge and Suarez linking much better and may be maybe another creative skill player is midfield would we need and LB if BR doesn't have confidence in Jack Robinson,, send him on loan..in all we lost and I have to say more positive then negative so all good and learn from this game and win next one.

We where playing 442 when they changed

I disliked your comment/opinion because Rodgers has worked with Borini at two different clubs and he knows Borini is top quality.

So i bow to his knowledge over yours. As at least Rodgers has seen the lad train and work, let alone do enough to be one of a very select few who managed to break into the Italian squad last season for the Euro's.

He scored 11 goals in 24 games as a winger/second striker for Roma last season. Rodgers knows Borini has the quality, Italy know Borini has the quality and the little man himself is dying to show it and make all the doubters and ''it's all a bit crap ain't it'' fans shut up and eat humble pie.

now what was that? another defensive blunder? and why is lucas off and not allen? some questions br gotta answer.
sturridge!! a fantastic signing!

vgred

Lucas was tired and on a yellow, we need him in the coming games, he's still not at full fitness and it unfortunately showed towards the end of the first half today.

Allen did come off, obviously after you posted but Allen was more of a break up man today than Lucas, Henderson didn't have much time to do anything.

Because lucas is yellow carded ... its to risky to him to stayed on the field considering that his duty is stealing the ball...

13 Jan 2013 14:49:25
Poor, poor Liverpool. Defensively, we are hopeless. We deserve to be mid-table mediocrity. How can you expect a result against any team if the defence is so poor?

Ferguson brought on two centre backs in Smalling and Jones in the last 15 minutes, just to sure up his teams lead....At United's ground.

Because he didn't worry at all.... No of course not, Fergie had to tighten up because he could see we were really pushing for an equaliser.

Not Suarez's day, Sturridge is 2 in 2 and looks hungry for more goals.

13 Jan 2013 14:48:24
Well we might as well give up! BR should have taken downing off and Allen, the two biggest liabilities on the pitch. He hasn't and we are now down by another goal, we have been very very sloppy!

Wow what a great supporter you are!

Campbell

Sterling was by far the worse of the wings today!
But youve some how not mentioned him!!

Are you just reverting to type!!

Lyndon

Allen was better than you make out, Lucas was dying of fatigue on the pitch towards the end of the first half, you couldn't see that?

Allen was doing some of Lucas' work for him at times. Gerrard started well but Lucas couldn't keep up with the tempo and Gerrard and Allen had to make allowances for Lucas. Understandable, he had a long time off and it can take a good month and a half before on top form and up to standard.

But to blame Allen and Downing, eh not for me kid. Doesn't work out, not from what i just watched on Sky1.

was you watching the same game?? Allen and downing were useless"again"Sterling was poor, Hendo should replace Allen(BR love child) next game

13 Jan 2013 14:48:01
Could not play worse if we tried. Zero belief

The belief only came about 60minutes in, do you think that's good enough to beat the mancs

13 Jan 2013 14:47:09
Marking non existent!

13 Jan 2013 14:47:01
Just wondered what the inside track is on Adam Morgan? I know he is now on loan but, even when at LFC and when we had only one CF and youth is/was clearly being given a chance, he didn't get much, if any, game time in the league cup. Is he just considered young/lightweight? How us perceived internally as he looks like a good prospect

Thank you

13 Jan 2013 14:44:41
Not good enough .....at least make a fight of it guys....

Allen needs to be rested as does Sterling.

Downing just needs to leave.

Show some fight and courage lads - only one goal down!

M

13 Jan 2013 14:44:30
What a miss!! I'd care what position you play but you should still know how to shoot!!

13 Jan 2013 14:42:19
Rogers is clueless. He takes lucas off and leaves allen on. Time to go brendan.(rdred)

Lucas had been booked one slip and a 2nd booking and he's off no chance of coming back then. maybe that's why he took him off. cautious not clueless....redman matt

You mug, Lucas was flat out on his ass. You can't tell when someone's knackered, i bet you want Torres back. LoL

13 Jan 2013 14:41:17
Joe Allen....he needs to come off!!!

13 Jan 2013 14:40:34
well that's going to be brave or stupid taking lucss off. how can allen stay on the pitch.

Lucas would have stayed on if hadn't been booked.rob b

Are you loyal to anything in life??

We just lost away r2-1 to the probable Champions. Bossed the second half with a lad scoring on premier debut. Looked like he will play well along side Suarez!!

and you act like a Total Plum!!

Lyndon

Lucas couldn't continue. Extremely fatigued. AHhhh, How many fellow Liverpool fans are so unbelievably stupid!?

It seems like a high percentage and it erks me because it's more embarrassing being guilty through association, no matter how illogical and fallacious it is, than watching Liverpool loose to Northampton in the F.A cup under Hodgson.

13 Jan 2013 14:40:14
It's all about pressure. United apply it every time we get possession while whenever they have it we give the 4 yards and way more time than we should. Looks like they have 2 or 3 more players on the pitch than we do. Commitment is required otherwise this will not end well.

Good news is we're miraculously only 1 down. Substitutions needed at the half badly.

RDL

13 Jan 2013 14:40:00
I'll say it again- couldn't care less about Ince stop wasting away the transfer period & bring in a decent EXPERIENCED holding midfielder. Even Danny Murphy is an welcome improvement in my opinion lol... It all starts with controlling that area & would free up Gerra (who btw better than Snieder in that role) pleeeeeze if we are a great club why are we run by fools?

Azkop

13 Jan 2013 14:39:01
Lucas off.....and not Allen.....oh dear Rodgers, is he your lovechild?

Lucas was one foul off a red card so not surprised. Allen has been awful but brendan had little choice if he wanted to replace a CM. Hopefully Henderson can come on for Allen ASAP!
RedChris

Totally agree, but imo rogers should get sacked just for that substitution alone, how pathetic cheers pk

Wow, what will be this club if you're the owner ? sacked the manager because he's doesn't want to lose a man short in the game againts MU !

Yeah pk sack him for making a substitution you imbecile
JJ

Lucas was massively knackered, he was a doubt before the game...... persons who don't have all the facts make themselves look like twits.

13 Jan 2013 14:36:31
4-4-2

13 Jan 2013 14:36:14
Rodgers is not only limited by the players he has to choose from, but also his own inability to alter the way he sets out his team and the way he gets the team to play.

Pass and move is fine, if you have the players that can pass, and even more so if you want the passing to start from the back. Rodgers has to realise that our fullbacks are not blessed with nor are they comfortable with passing from the back, and in some instances must allow them to play the long ball.

Lack of a plan "B" or an alternate way of playing simply makes life easy for the opposing manager to plan how they will play - push high up the pitch, put pressure on their fullbacks and two "defensive" midfielders, and they will eventually make mistakes.

Suarez is so isolated (poor buggar), and why won't Stevie G shoot anymore?

We are very poor - Manchester United are only average.

13 Jan 2013 14:34:27
Allen is having a shocker. Brendan should be more like the manager in the stands (Mourinho), he would take a player off after 20 minutes if he thought it wasn't happening for the player. Why doesn't Brendan do this?
Jamie red.

13 Jan 2013 14:33:54
Good to see the true fans are back again. Fsg, management and player all out not fit to Run, manage or play for club. Every body out now.

KUMBER

13 Jan 2013 14:33:32
Woody Allen would be more decisive than Joe Allen

13 Jan 2013 14:33:32
If BR cannot see the issues with Allen then we have a big problem. I really have no idea what he does for our team.

Remind you of the saying love child anyone?

13 Jan 2013 14:32:52
Are we allergic to their 18 yard box?

SR

13 Jan 2013 14:32:46
Really not turned up so far have we, Allen and downing not up to the job today, I would say go 4-4-2 we have nothing to lose take Allen off and get Sturridge on swap downing and sterling over and try that,

13 Jan 2013 14:32:25
Allen is the worst Player of the season, downing is back to his usuall crap performance, this game shows how rubbish we really are.

13 Jan 2013 14:32:20
Garbage we are lightyears behind the top 4 . No threat on the wings allen lucus giving the ball away ever time they get it sg doing nothing we need investment in the team not ince we need quailty also bring rafa back br is clueless all we do is pass between the keeper & the centre backs when pass it to the midfield then lose it

13 Jan 2013 14:32:20
Terrible first half performance but at 1 - 0 down we are not out of it.

13 Jan 2013 14:31:07
We're getting battered out there we need a change because we're not havin any of the ball . We should bring on Sturidge coz Suarez is lost up there by him self

13 Jan 2013 14:30:46
If I was BR I'd go for Sturridge for Downing, and possibly Borini for Sterling, but almost definitely Hendo for Allen, needs a prolonged rest IMO and Hendo gives us energy.

Wisdom is not doing it for me, they have so much space on the left hand side, notice the goal, although yes, his best position is Cb. We need to play with more positivity!

HullRED

13 Jan 2013 14:30:45
The worse liverpool performance ive seen this season so far alot of players are out of there depth playing in a game like this and so is the manager for me.

13 Jan 2013 14:29:47
Ok....

Allen...just not good enough
Sterling...When was the last time he looked a threat and took a man on?
Downing...Ask yourself why he only looks dangerous against poor opposition...

And why do we find it so hard to go past and beat players why do we always stop and go back?.....

Just honest observations not trolling, I just think Rodgers has some major selection issues when it comes to Allen in particular

Also if the owners were to state look we don't have the money to buy proven world class players so were doing things this way then maybe we'd understand why were not buying proven talent but when Werner constantly says there will be big surprises and we can compete with anyone to then backtrack in the window what are we supposed to think....
I sometimes see improvements on the pitch that are promising but behind the scenes we seem to be a shambles.
YNWA
lets hope for a good 2nd half. {Ed002's Note - The owners have spent significant funds - more than all but a couple of EPL sides since they arrived. People like you are doing no more than being an embarrassment with the constant misinformation, whining and bitching.}

Im entitled to moan, i actually support this club and have done all my life...why are you even working for this site if your not a fan?.....clueless AND not a fan.....just why? {Ed002's Note - You're grizzling like a little girl who has fallen over and are going a long way toward making the club a laughing stock with all of your nonsense. Your repeated attacks on the owners using all the different nom de plumes is embarrassing.}

13 Jan 2013 14:28:41
Im a big Allen fan - even got him on the back of my shirt ;) - but he needs a few weeks on the bench to rest, any coincidence his form has really dropped as soon as he kid was born? Get Hendo on

Alan Partridge

13 Jan 2013 14:28:26
Either:
We need to abandonn 4-3-3
Or
We will loose this game.

You need lots of football skill in a team to play 4 3 3
you need feet, you need first touch, you need real football ability, you need a deep level of football quality, which we don't have.
At 4-4-2 you need pace in the wings which we have.
and Gerrard can get forward.

Kenny Dalglish.

13 Jan 2013 14:28:26
Sterling isn't ready for d big games yet. Allen zero, Downing nil, Gerard lost it, Lucas unfit, Reina lost it, Johnson can't defend. Poor team selection by d coach. Pity workaholic Suarez.
RedBeer.

13 Jan 2013 14:28:17
Right it's half time were getting battered, Allan, sterling, downing need to be taken off they're having nightmares but on a whole entire teams not doing well to be fair I would bring Sturridge, Henderson and borini from the start of the second half, all players and manager up to know are letting them selves down were still in it still and have played bad up the intensity sharpish cheers pk

13 Jan 2013 14:27:50
Allen, Downing off, Jonjo/Henderson on, Sturidge up with Suarez . Time to show some balls/desire.

13 Jan 2013 14:26:46
I've been impressed with Downings application the last few weeks, but on a day like this you can see that he's more a 'winger' than suits our system. Get Sturridge on, and the front three should interchange more, creating more space in front of manu's defence. Allen is having a poor game, but when the midfield look to pass the ball forward, downing hugging the touchline is cutting down options. Just a thought...

13 Jan 2013 14:25:25
Lucky to be only 1 down at half time, Gerard too deep, Allen and downing need to be subbed, get Sturbridge on and hendo or shelves, got to give Suarez more support, the worrying thing is that Rodgers doesn't seem to be learning from his mistakes, lets hope he makes the changes at half time. Allen off Shelvey on
Downing off Sturridge on

We need to add some creativity and steel to the team.

BigD

13 Jan 2013 14:25:08
I can't get excited by Sterling. People have been going on about him being our future golden boy etc, but he all he seems to do is lose tackles, pass badly and run around.
For a game like this you need a bit of grit. I would have started with Shelvey instead of Allen, but pushed further up with Lucas falling back a bit.
Good to see Borini back in the fold. He will hopefully start to prove his worth and give Sterling a threat to his place, and a big fat kick up the butt.
And Gerro, get that touch back!
Luis - bad day at the office, but caused by all those listed above.

On a positive note - Downing is looking much better and after wanting him sold for most of the season I think he's good for the squad now.

13 Jan 2013 14:24:24
Whats wrong with Allen? he's playin sh*te. BR, Henderson and Sturridge need to play! Take off Downing and Allen

And can I please have whatever BR is smoking... he's on some good stuff, clearly he's watching another game.

I finally today see why our deffence is leaking, it aren't their fault.
Im pretty sure Suarez doesnt understand why sturridge aren't playing, it would explain his lack of interest in the game

13 Jan 2013 14:19:13
the way liverpool are playing

they are not gona get their confidence back at all
man utd are simple far superior as a team
forget individuals
as a team..they are just much stronger than us

and the way the game is going...everyone is too scared to play their normal game
they are even afraid to shoot

i think an easy 3 or 4-0 will be the end result

alex

13 Jan 2013 14:18:08
Very humbling. I don't think anyone expected a win, but this is easily the worst we have looked against United in 10 years. We should be down 3 - 0. Not a single shot at United goal. Very sad to watch.

Daveevad

13 Jan 2013 14:15:54
eds just a quick point, how long do you think BR will persist with Joe Allen? Very poor in this first half and has been for a while. I would rather he play players on form and make the lads fight for their place in the team. Henderson has been a revelation in the last month or so. Zero competition equals medeocure performance. Let's switch it up a little, no one player is bigger than the club. {Ed002's Note - I really hjave no interest in discussing tactics or team selection.}

13 Jan 2013 14:15:10
After a good start getting battered again! Get Sterling off switch Downing and ffs get Sturridge on!suarez needs help of more physical nature. But Especially Get the useless Allen OFF! Hendos power required, Lads size and stature more of use then Allen

13 Jan 2013 14:13:24
Downing couldnt lace a 50% fit sturridge laces i said before the game and in hendo you get effort

13 Jan 2013 14:12:42
Gerrard is trying to do the work of 2 men. Allen isn't going to be good enough

Chris in Tamworth

13 Jan 2013 14:12:38
we should have started hendo. allen is not having his best day

13 Jan 2013 14:12:38
I said before kick off. Downing should not start in these games he doesent put in a tackl he needs time on ball he will not get it. Joe allen is just pedestrian. I said play sturridge for downing and hendo for allen and robinson a chance instead of wisdom johnson on right, balance would be better. Hendo at least you get effort allen not a man utd game player. Sterling over downing at least he gets stuck in

13 Jan 2013 14:11:59
If only we had a Sneijder today.

Gotta stop playing so deep.

13 Jan 2013 14:11:46
Allen already looks lost can someone tell me what happen to Allen can't keep possession or can't pass accurate and gives ball all the time. I don't understand why we drope Henderson who is in fantastic form. In what merit Allen is playing he has been poor even against division team. How many times we say Lucas and Allen can't play togeather they make our team unbalanced.

Shocking so far joe allen is woefull again we need to replace allen dowing & sterling they can't even hit a 10 yard pass

All you Joe Allen lovers open up your eyes, he's effin rubbish!!

Would love to see him do well to not dent my faith in Rodgers judgement but can't see it.

How on earth did we pay 15m for that crap

Boys having a poor game is all... The is some thing between world beater and not fit to wear the shirt...

Sturridge for Lucas? & Downing & Allen are still on??

13 Jan 2013 13:59:03
What a shambles we look, and for the first time i myself will openly admit that J.Allen and S.Downing are the weak links, too much hesitation to go in for the tackle, there not controlling any pass they receive and they have no vision with there passing, hendo and sturridge on now, give us some kind of threat and 1st class work rate with the skill required. Lets hope we peg 1 back b4 half time.

Cmon you Reds
C.Mac YNWA

Sturridge for Downing, Hendo for Allen, simples.

ChrisMiz

Even sterling looks lightweight

Add Sterling and Lucas to your weak links.

BrisbaneLFC

Downing hasn't done anything wrong, but Allen is shocking. Sterling has been rubbish lately too and totally overrated.

We are not Barcelona & cannot play like them utd & pushing & we aren't getting the time to play, too slow a build up, get Allen & Downing off

13 Jan 2013 13:58:53
Why start Joe Allen over Henderson? As if his previous performances weren't enough to show you he is way out of form.

ChrisMiz

Cuz he is BR buy and why we pay 12m for guy who sits on the bench??

13 Jan 2013 13:54:34
Allen is toilet

13 Jan 2013 13:54:04
Were in for a very hard beating today, BR has his team selection very wrong.
Sterling and downing are not offering anything going forward or defending.
Gerrard thinks he still has legs. i'd plat sturridge and henderson upfront with suarez.

Its days like this that i wish Suarez had a better team.

There is two big a cap between Suarez and the midfield. Hendo would do the job of pushing up and dropping back. Allen to me really offers nothing in a attack or defence.

Money down the drain

I agree, simply got the team wrong today BR! Simply cannot play Lucas and Allen in the same team at the same time. Apart from the fact Allen is showing poor form and Lucas is a shadow of his former self. Only problem is we just let go the only person that could take either of their places as a DM - Sahin.

BrisbaneLFC

13 Jan 2013 13:51:56
Liverpool down by a goal, simple goal, should have defended better. Liverpool been sloppy. Suarez up front on his own. Need to get sturridge and take downing off who isn't doing anything!

13 Jan 2013 13:53:39
poor passing...

really poor play...like the midfield are scared to keep the ball

and a really basic goal from man u...which is disappointing

i think what's happening at the moment..is some of the liverpool players are getting scared to keep the ball when a player is running at them..and they are releasing it too quickly ..hence inaccurate passing

13 Jan 2013 13:29:30
A point or two on Torres, if Torres was scoring then yes, i'd want him back, but he isn't and hasn't for a consistent period.

If anyone it will be Benitez that sharpens Torres up, i think he's lost it, the boy with the golden touch become the old man with the dodgy knees...or hamstring. But he'd still do well in Italy i believe, as an example.

I still think he's a class act but he's had to rely on his pace for his whole career and can't get that yard or two he's used to. He's struggling and it's not great to watch, he's on loads of money and unless he's producing the goods which he isn't, why would we want him back?

It's a weird man-love thing with Torres, he was bloody amazing, possibly the best out and out striker in the World, on his day. But that player is a far cry from now, same will happen with Cristiano and Messi. It has with Kaka, Torres, Shevchenko and Ruud horse face, to name but a few. It happens to all. When you are a striker, you are judged on goals, if you don't score and don't contribute then you are dead weight, in Torres' case expensive dead weight.

If Chelsea are cutting Lampard who scores and did cut Drogba who scored and important goals, then i think it's safe to use foresight and consider Torres being sold any day the window is open, or re-opens in the Summer.

Oh, look the football is starting, just as i come to the end of my rant/opinion, what's the difference again!? :)

I'd take a point but i think the Sturridge signng will give the team a lift, Fergie gobbed about him, because it's an unknown quantity that he can't possibly account for, if played. My psychological understanding of the matter, albeit separate.

1-2 to Liverpool. Howard Webb please be consistent and fair, that's all i ever ask.

What a shock ian ayre no intrest in wesley s to the fsg lovers how are we ever going to compete again with the big clubs we can't even buy ince back if they keep the same policy of low wages & small transfer fees &balancing the books weare going knowere next season

Thank you. Best post I've ever read on these rose tinted forums.

Ed when did borini start full training ?

KUMBER {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

He was in some of the training pics at the end of the year before we played qpr

13 Jan 2013 13:12:53
glad to see borini back today, i had a feeling about the kid when he first came and i still do. Shame about hendo not getting the start but i can see what BR is going for.

13 Jan 2013 12:56:32
Can anyone direct me to the Liverpool rumours site. I think I have been redirected to the Sneidjer/Torres forum, lol.

13 Jan 2013 12:54:10
just seen the man you starting line up looks like he's matching up 4 3 3 .
if we can dominate the midfield today we will win really think we can put the game beyond reach in the first half quick start high tempo.

young and welbeck playing as the 2 wide of the front 3 don't really think they can hurt us at the full back area.

carrick cleverly and kagwaga midfield 3 think we can over run them here. and ferdinhand an vidic in centre back would have prefered to see evans in there as he is prone to giving away silly fouls.

very confident today lads wats all your thoughts including yourself eds.

Eds, 70mins before kickoff. Any last words for the lads who will do us proud today?

13 Jan 2013 12:50:34
Sturridge not invloved today. Looks like we will be playing 4-5-1 (which is a defensive variation of 4-3-3 with the front line flank players dropping deeper) playing deep and trying to hit them on the break. RED LENIN

13 Jan 2013 12:49:36
Would have liked to see Hendo and Sturridge start but fingers crossed we can get a result

How does BR justify picking Allen ahead of Hendo?

By being the manager. Lol.

Because he's a better player? Just a guess.

13 Jan 2013 12:43:18
Hi Eds,
Just a quick question if you know anyone we could be looking at the ACON? Be good to know so I can keep an eye out.
Also hoping for a win today, Gerrard 1st, then Suarez to get onto the end of a Evra back pass.
Also hoping we look at Gus Poyets son who doing really well at Charlton.
Cheers Normy {Ed002's Note - I cannot think of anyone in particular at the ACON although I am sure folks will be keeping a look out.}

Yaya Banana? Please?

Eds, do you think there is a chance of maybe getting torres in on loan until the summer with an option to buy? Maybe use the money for carroll to bring him back permanently in the summer? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not approached Chelsea about Torres.}

13 Jan 2013 12:33:21
I am so tired of hearing the term take on debt regarding snedjer. You mean we might have to pay a player of quality a "fair" wage who actually would contribute to our success on the pitch instead of making big wages and warm the bench ie. Carroll, cole, Sahin and last years aqua, kuyt, Adam, maxi . We have had more high wage bench Warmers let's spend it right. {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool pay what he is asking it will cost the club £12M or so a year - that is around 7% of the entire club's annual turnover. Wages are a significant issue.}

Just as a comparison ed002. What was Liverpools annual wage bill from their last accounts (2011?).

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - The last figures I have to hand show wages at £121M but I suspect now it is closer to £100M or so.}

What's he wants 250,000 a week?! What can you actually do with that much money ?! Hope we don't go for him

London red {Ed002's Note - He wants 120K euros a week net of all deductions.}

13 Jan 2013 12:33:11
Ed any idea why the press have linked us with sneijder? Everyone knew we needed players in certain ares but AM was not really a priority so seems a strange one. Surprised utd haven't come in for him again though? I guess that's the proof that his demands are so high.

so basically we need spanish player?

13 Jan 2013 11:33:57
I think liverpool need Sneidjer,
And he is affordable and wants PL football
Stick him in the CAM position and he will create many things
Liverpool need a bit more quality up front and experience
Steven Gerrard recently said that you can't carry on with bringing in young players they have hardly any Experience
We're going to end up like Aston villa if this carries on {Ed002's Note - You interpretation of "affordable" would mean the club taking on significant debt.}

Hi folks! Fergie is at it again! If Man Utd buy zaha, isn't he "a bit of a gamble" zaha 15 million no end product, no prem experience! Sturridge Prem experience, Champions league experience £12m!Now tell me who is a gamble?

Fergie is proper losing the plot, listen to the amount of stupid things he's said this season alone!

He's actually become funny with his senile years approaching rapidly and taking him, especially when he speaks to Sky. :)

13 Jan 2013 11:28:15
Lads, please stop with the Torres and Sneijder rumours. They only serve to raise false hopes and when they don't happen, you think the window was another failure. Sturridge is a talent who will grow under Rodgers. Lets nab a winger and call it a day for this window. Not to mention Cole is off, which can only strengthen the clubs chances of transfers in the summer.

I have a good feeling about today's match, though even a tie will be good at Old Trafford with United in their current form.

Coop

13 Jan 2013 11:10:01
Just a question about our scouting policy, it seems there is some lack of experience here. For the past 5 years, we have signed players who simply can't cope the premiership and and players who are not good enough for Sunday league football. The most recent is Sahin, Assaidi, Henderson, Carroll And Adam who has now gone. Why have we not got the talent spotting that most top 6 teams have?? I would put this as our main concern at present, rather than new signings. The last couple of years has seen money being wasted on high priced signings with nuclear return (Carroll, Henderson, downing, and the loan of Sahin). There are far better players out there who would cost less and give more to the team.

Scouts don't sign players.

Hi eds. This is a general one: it seems pretty obvious that FSG spent huge sums on players in their first year, and have now placed much tighter controls on the overall budget and the spending on any one player. I'm not totally clear on the financial position of FSG as a whole, so I'd be really interested in what the eds think about whether Liverpool's current strategy in the market is that (a) there simply isn't the money to spend; (b) FSG had their fingers burned by the initial ludicrous overspending on players under Dalglish and Comolli and don't want to repeat the experience; or (c) there's a genuine belief in the policy of bringing in, and developing, younger and less expensive players (I guess this was part of the 'moneyball' philosophy in the States)? Any thoughts much appreciated. {Ed052's Note - a. There is money avaliable for the right players, although not that much. Expect us to spend a lot in the summer. B. Yes, KK did waste money and FSG weren't expecting so little success. That has made then far more cautious. Theres no policy a such, but younger players do have sell on values. We will buy the players most suitable for us}

Thanks ed, appreciated.

13 Jan 2013 10:52:45
morning eds. how often does a transfer slip past you guys and you don't even see it coming. there must be some? also BR and Ayre have always said if a good player becomes available who could help the group they would try to strike a deal for the club. BR also said he wants the top players at the club. He knows the 'top players' will demand high wages that's obvious. Snijder is available. we must have inquired ! DBol {Ed052's Note - I must say, I cannot remember a time when the other Eds have not been spot on. We may well have inquired but there are so many it means very little. We dont know of any interest in the player and wages would be a gigantic problem}

Didn't Assaidi sneak past everyone?? I don't remember his name being mentioned once in the weeks before!! I think I even remember some of the eds expressing their surprise with 'did anyone see that coming' comments!!

13 Jan 2013 11:21:54
Sneijder will not be a Liverpool player. He makes 6 million/year and is 28. The only PL clubs that would pay that are The Mancs and Chelsea. Chelsea have too many midfielders. My money is in Man City. The rich always get richer in football world. {

13 Jan 2013 10:46:58
Can we please put these Torres rumors to bed.He left because he thought the grass was greener on the other side.He is not playing well and hasn't since he left.I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought he would come good again but since his bad injury he seems to have lost a yard of pace. There are plenty of good decent strikers out there better than Torres at the moment, Remy, Michu, Doumbia, Luuk de Jong, Ricky van Wolfswinkel but to name a few. So would you like a forward that can score quite regular or go for Torres and get maybe 1 in 6.
Paul

13 Jan 2013 10:46:35
This applies to what appears to be 50% of users of this site....

GET OVER TORRES!!!!!!!!

1. He has no pace, cannot outpace ANY defenders anymore
2. Cannot hit a barn door
3. We are trying to move forwards

We have what potentially could be a great team in young Raheem, Suso, Wisdom, Kelly, Shelvey, Yesil, Sturridge, Suarez etc etc etc

Let me ask you this.....
What would he add to the squad??

Mr T

My thoughts exactly

I pity da fool who thinks Torres is worth buying

Nevada

That's not true, you just want it to be true because he left us, he was the best striker we have ever had, he knows where the back of the net is and if he came back and re gained his confidence with the love of the LFC crowd again he would great for us again, I was gutted when he left but understood, I would love him to return.
TORRES Is an Anfield legend in my eyes.
Just my opinion
Lets hope for a good result today and hope we're not talking about silly referee decisions again!!

When I said that's not true I was referring to point 1&2
Paul the red

13 Jan 2013 10:38:25
With the snejdier situation of him not wanting to take a large pay cut, do you think he would be open to an offer which saw his wage drop for 6 months, to a more affordable sum, but be given the possibility of it rising to a wage nearer his current prefered amount if he ( in Liverpools case, if they where to sign him) helped clinch champions league football for next season {Ed002's Note - I have no idea. He wants 120M euros a week net of tax. That is around a £12M year cost to Liverpool. How much debt would you want the club to go in to buy the likes of Sneijder and Torres?}

Beggars can't be choosers, at a relatively low transfer fee I can't see anybody knocking his door down at the moment or he would already be signed, he may be more realistic in his wage demands the longer this goes on.
If we could get both Torres and Wesley at a decent price we would have one hell is a squad.
Paul the red

13 Jan 2013 10:55:05
A win today and we are back 4pts behind 4th. I would even take a draw to leave us 6pts behind. WBA and Everton are now stuttering so it will be a 4 horse race for 3rd and 4th. With rafa at the helm at Chelsea he will continue to make tactical mistakes so we will have a sniff there and both spuds and Chelsea have to come to anfield. Rogers needs to win this game as he has still to beat the top 7 this season.

13 Jan 2013 10:53:50
How is everyone doing? Nice to finally get some time to post again.

I really have a good feeling about today, I really think united are there for the taking, I have yet to see them genuinely dominate a game this season and if they didn't have the brilliance of van persil they would be fighting for forth and not the title imo.

I think the Mansfield game was a very good warm up considering the state of the old scaffold pitch will be very similar. I can't help but feeling that Agger, Skrtel and Lucas are fundamental to the result, Lucas this season has yet to perform to the standard of previous seasons and seems a bit tentative in the tackle, understandably but today needs to be the day he regains his form. Agger and Skrtel were brilliant as a partnership last season but like Lucas seems to have lost their way.

If they can keep van persil quiet I can see a fantastic result with our attacking talent, and I cannot see akky other way united can hurt us.
Today could be the making of a hero, 3-1 to Liverpool with Henderson bagging a brace.
CMON LIVERPOOL!

Eds;according to you;which would be the most realistic deal finalized by Liverpool this window?Also are there any chances for a world class player(apart from Snejider and Torres)to join this window? {Ed002's Note - I have said repeatedly who I expect to sign and what could also happen if players are to leave. I cannot think of that many "World Class" players that could be arriving in January.}

Not saying Torres is returning, but if we where to bid £15m we would then have got money back from Carroll deal then sell Carroll for £10m we would then be able to use that for a left back

Why not offer Chelsea 3m - they'd snap Ayres arm off

Please eds will you do me a massive favour and ban all torres talk on this site or else jut put all of it in to the dodgy rumours section the where no one will have to read about it. This is a player who relied on pace that's gone, demanded a transfer away from liverpool, hasnt been good for 3 years and people still want the cabbage back . Im so sick of this site being taking up by torres rubbish. Liverpool would never take him back get over it people . Rant over . Cheers.
Conor {Ed002's Note - Unfortunately I cannot do that. There are many posters who are desparate for him to return.}

Spot on mate he simply is not the player he was, whether that is because he sulking as he did with us for the last 6 months to a year or he has lost those first few yards but either way don't want him. im sure he, d come back tmrw if offered but we have a better player in suarez and im sure the 2 together would be superb if torres was his old self but he simply isnt. and yes your right he wanted to go dispite suarez being with us people have short memories its a shame as he would of been a true legend but you make your own bed so lie in it cmon red men 3-1 today to us of course

Anyone else agree that today could be very good or extremely bad? I just don't know what Liverpool will turn up today, I've seen us excellent and then the next week so awful it's untrue. Really praying that it's good, living in Manchester I don't look forward to days like these.

We ll turn up this one can go either way. honestly think 2-1 to the mancs but i have hope for a win for us

13 Jan 2013 09:13:55
Hi guys

In the lead up to this weekend's game, my friend and I were discussing a little hypothetical. Now I think it would be fun to see what everyone else thinks.

Do you think LFC would be in the same, better or even worse position now if they had won the 08/09 Premier League title?

This has nothing to do with FSG's current management of the club, just what you think would have happened if Gerrard's free kick goal against Stoke was correctly allowed, or Tim Cahill's header didn't go in, or if Asharvin had sprayed one of his shots wide.

My take:

LFC would be in a *slightly* better position. There's no doubt that Hicks/Gillette financial situation would still have caused problems, but I think the afterglow of the win would have made it easier to keep the team together and/or sell the club, if necessary. Also, while costs would have gone up (eg pay rises, more marquee signings etc), there would have also been a significant increase in merchandising and sponsorship (due the drought being broken) to balance this out a little bit.

Interested to hear other people's thoughts.

Why the f... Does it matter. We didn't win it and we need to focus on the future

13 Jan 2013 08:55:57
I'm not interested wether or not we can get him, but in regards to Sneijder is there genuine interest in the player? Did LFC make a bid or enquiry?

I guess to me it's more about the intent, if we miss out we are still looking to bring a class number 10 of sorts.

Cheers

four hours to go! come on lads!!

13 Jan 2013 08:00:50
Sir Alex likes to put his nose everywhere. He claims that Sturridge was a gamble signing and Suarez is a controversial player. To me this is fear and panic. i am sure he would love to have both of them in his MU team.
I just hope that the LFC boys today commit themselves to the course and fire on all cylinders. I would love them to teach M.U a lesson and show them what LFC stands for. YNWA

Yeah, we're running scared what with you being 21 points behind and not having won it for 23 years. Suarez is a class player...but he does attract controversy more than most. Sturridge has real potential..but he couldn't get in the Chelsea team, nor would he get in the United team.

AJH

It's just one of his "dirty" tactics. "If you can't have them, you break them apart"...surely he'd want to have Suarez...just that he'll never get him. Suarez hates Manchester United and that's for sure.

If Sturridge was a panic buy, we have been panicking for 6 months. Fergie s just getting senile.

cozinoz

Moyes did the same and Luis paid him back! Hope he and Sturridge can do the same today.

Evo YNWA

To be honest, Fergie started his attack on Suarez in the aftermath of our 3-1 win at Anfield a couple of years ago.

Utd were awful and Suarez was simply unplayable. That's when Fergie started drip-feeding the media with all sorts of accusations of diving and cheating and the English media began their xenophobic bullying of Suarez.

Suarez is a winner, truly world class and Fergie is scared of him.

Question: what do Liverpool fans and Alex Ferguson have in common?

Answer: both are obsessed with Luis Suarez

Joe

13 Jan 2013 07:12:00
Sneijder we have got to start signing players like this again look at what we have paid for joe allen and jordan Henderson we could be signing the likes of Yann M'Vila and moussa sissoko for a fraction of the price. the team started going the wrong way when rafa started buying English players. it cost him his job then Kenny did the same look at the England team in tournaments why do we won't to pay over the odds for very poor technical players. come on let us learn from are mistakes.

There is little interest in him because of the abhorent wage demands. I rather think we can do without burdening the P&L in that way, especially as we have just taken steps in the right direction to trim an inflated wage bill. Good luck to the lads today. Matt

the fans on here are getting worser by theday, one player has a good game, then bang fans on here are asking if we are interested in them, and not only that they put a pricee on the player and get rid of some of our players to make room, the latest one is the sunderland player sessignon, (spelling) he was in our league last season aswell, it just goes to show hoe the owners and BR have lowered our expectations for players to our club,, ive put in the past that BR is only buying his old boys, the ones he has coached before . borini, sturridge, allen, di santo scored today so he might be our next signing,

fact is that there's only 1 or 2 more players coming in thi9s january, that's if we have been told no lies, so why do people keep on asking about 10 to 20 differebt players, i would not be suprised if we never got anyone else in this window, even though the squad is down to the bare bones, cole and sahin left, no one in to replace them and the owners even want more players gone, like coates, wht noy get rid of the bad player 1st, downing has took 2 seasons t o start to play some ok games instead of his usual dross, get rid of him 1st then get some one in, and why loan out a defender then get cover in for the place he left, its as if krusty the clown is runni9ng the club with homer as our manager,,, " dohh!

Just read an article about Suarez in a Sunday paper written by an ex Manc...

Is it wrong to start liking this Gary Neville bloke?

dmedly

Gary neville is a good pundit

tom1975

Seems pretty fair on Sky.

He'll done be getting a phone call off Red Nose if he doesn't become more biased!

Lyndon

Have to agree with you on this one .I was disgusted wen I found out he was appointed by sky.on the pitch I hated his guts and was my most hated player but as a football pundit he is very honest and actually says wat he thinks and that's also about the scum. But still every time I look at him I think about when he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of us

Can someone tell me why the eds here don't seem to have any insights on goings on at LFC? I have not seen any one inquiry given an answer that indicates that the eds are in the know.

Its really astonishing reading the response to many inquiries.

{Ed002's Note - You didn't like my telling you that Di Santo would not be joining when you said he would? Or my telling you about Sturridge? How about my explaining to you that Senegal were not to be playing in the ACON when you said Liverpool were buying Demba Ba but he was off to South Africa? And you from my Alma Mater as well.}

Poster,

The page is not full of in the know information, it is a case of giving details about what is rumoured! Those that put FACT or im in the know turn about to be complete nonsense. If you are given some information by someone that has heard a rumour then this forum is here for you to post should you wish. Too many on here jump on being offensive if they don't believe what they read or if someone disagree's with what they have posted. The editors are in the world of football media and have vast amounts of information about various clubs that they deal with daily, they give their opinions! I have never read a post by an editor saying FACT or im in the know.

The clue is in the name of the site.......RUMOURS!!

I hope the ref doesn't ruin this game for either team and the only question left is what Liverpool team is going to show up tomorrow?

Hey guys 2 quick questions. Do you believe sturridge will start tomorrow or is it going to be the usual downing and sterling with Suarez up the middle? Also this might be a dumb question I apologize for asking but why are you all called eds? I've been reading this page for awhile but that's one thing I haven't figured out. Thanks {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what side I shall be putting out just yet. We took the name Ed from our collective hero - Mr Ed - you may know him better as Bamboo Harvester. He. like me has an appreciation society on Facebook (tinyurl.com/c6j7t2m) and we were all Facebook members who used to hang out together talking Mr Ed. Eventually Ed001 came up with the idea of starting this site for the purpose of exploitation and as a means of raising considerable amounts of cash toward our main aim. It is a first, but significant, step toward world domination.}

Ed002, this is one of the best replies I've seen yet. I tip my hat to you, Sir.

I had an inkling that you and other Ed's were plotting world domination, I just didn't know how, or when it would come to fruition. Just so you know, I'm with you, not against you! Remember, I did used to post summaries for you, until the site got cluttered with trolls and the 'glass half full' types.

Cheers!

Hi eds..... Loving the site guys ;)

Just a quick message about the negativity on here at mo...
We all expected this season to be 'transitional' and pretty much a write off before a ball was kicked, so with that in mind.... Wouldn't we have taken where we are at present? We are still in Europe, we have replaced joe cole with sturridge, br has blooded sterling, wisdom, suso and we are in my opinion still in the hunt for 4th place!
Come on people there are positives! Get behind the team the manager and let's see where we are at this time next year and them judge!
Ps sorry for the essay!!

Sadly ever season for the last few years, has been transitional.
I want to see positive progress, not continued decline.

We can't be writing off no seasons before it began 'transitional are not

Yes I do agree that it has been transitional for past few years but that is partly because we as fans don't back our manager and players and hence we have has turnover in managers and players! You have to agree that our squad is in a better shape now than when we kicked off in August and if we can add another one or two now and at least challenge for 4th then it's further improvement. Hey it's just my opinion!

Had many issues with Gary Neville as a player, but as a sports writer and pundit the guy is top drawer.Take the time to read his article in Sundays Mail regarding Luis Suarez. The one piece of well constructed and considered journalism seen in a long time on all things concerning Luis.

I have to agree with this. He is very good and unbiased! Furthermore, he's not been retired long, so it gives him more credibility.
I think he's good at his job and you can tell he cares about the game. That'll do me; hatchet buried.
I think Henderson will start againt United. I think we need his legs.
An anxious Rigsby.

I had to go read the column myself after you mentioned it here. To be honest with you, this is the most unbiased singular column written about Suarez by a non-Liverpool fan, a man you fan for that matter.

I am quite sure that if pundits are always this unbiased about players, the silly tabloids will have nothing crazy to write about. For this particular column I'd say great job by Gary. Others should borrow a leaf from him and learn to be unbiased.

Have to agree - Saw the headline and thought here we go again but was really surprised. As a player for Man you hated him - but he loved his club and always gave 100% and didn't hide the fact he hated everything about Liverpool - as a pundit and a journalist I think he is the best out there - don't believe I wrote that - very balanced and provides expert analysis.
Phil from Crewe

It is an excellent piece by neville and he is spot on

tom1975

Possibly one of the best articles I've read in recent years, hate to say it but credit to G Neville - pity a few more media hounds don't take a leaf out of his book. Never, EVER thought I'd say that, but I have...

Enjoy the match, 2-3 Sturridge, Agger, Suarez
