Eds fellow reds, hope this isn't the start of things to come, ref was dreadful .thought Brazil were lucky .croatia only down side modic looked weak in the middle .but think they will get through .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You should be posting all of these world cup posts on the world cup page.}

12 Jun 2014 21:13:22
Not a rumour but loving rakatic for Croatia, let's b avin u. Is he still a possibility?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, and never has been.}

He's looked pretty poor to me tonight so far tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed030's Note - I have been impressed with him, Doing ok off the ball and when in possession he is making things happen. }

Commendations said that he has signed for barca now that ship has sailed. Shame he looked good to me

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 09:18:36
He looked a bit of a liability to me giving cheap balls away and silly fouls, just because he can do a couple of tricks which never materialised into anything really you think he's what we need lol

Agree0 Disagree0

He signed for barcelona and he is world class

Get ready for all of the motd fever questions boys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

See what I mean Ed001?
Nobody will be able to ask any question about any player without it being deemed "motd fever"
What a nonsense

Agree0 Disagree0

Do established scouts get match day fever or, is it called something maybe more professional, respectable or scientific? :D

With all the speculation of clubs buying benzema or him being included in various deals for players had to ask. Am I the only person who really doesn't rate benzema as a player?

Like to hear anyone else's views but I think he is massively overrated! Everyone goes on about his finishing but he has only scored 20+ goals in la liga once in 3 seasons and only managed one more league goal then Giroud last season! When you think he is the main striker for RM with world class players and playing in a more open league isn't impressive,

Only saw him a few times last season and can't remember a single game I was impressed with him in. The two games that highlight my point are the El Classico at the bernabeu where although he scored 2, he had 5-6 chances in the first half that a top striker should score which I would have killed the game and then the CL final where I thought he was the worst player on the pitch.

Mean he is a good player but this valuations of £30+ million and his status as one of the top strikers in the world just don't make sense to me. Would love to hear your thoughts

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jun 2014 18:58:56
I think it's more to do with the fact that he plays for Real Madrid. A lot of their players go for way above their market value if they are in and about the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 19:05:44
Have got to agre with you. He's not a bad player, but not a great one either. A waste of that sort of money for whoever wants to pay it. Shame Moyes wasn't still there - he might have bought him.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 23:09:07
Absolutely. I watched most of Real Madrid games last season, he's really quite good passing and off the ball, but for a world class striker his finishing, and indeed total goal tally, is unacceptable. The amount of chances he had, he could easily have scored 80+ goals, no joke. Then again Morata is even worse a player and he is also highly rated, and Jese is simply decent too. In fact the only players in Real who aren't overrated except Ronaldo and Alonso, are Carvajal and Di Maria, they were really great players last season. It's also funny that Di Maria has his best season ever playing as a Midfielder not a winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's awful, 2nd in the league of overrated strikers after rooney. He has had a lot of support from Zidane probably due to similar French/Algeria background which is why RM have kept him so long.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 17:50:06
This my take on the discussion about Reina. He was one the best goal keepers we ever had, yes his last two years were not great but then you could say that about most of the other players. He saw the break up of a good side and with players left who should not be playing for LIVERPOOL. I think at the time probably a lot of players were looking to get away apart from a few. If you watched him playing for us he was always committed, disgusted when he let in a goal, marshalled and talked to the defence and acted more like a captain then Gerrard did. Not to mention his distribution. Every goal keeper will make mistakes and Mignolet has made a few too. I would take back Reina without hesitation, he knows the club, knows the players and will help in getting our defence better. We will end up selling cheap and then buy another cheap player to be back up who will take time to Jell in. Yes he is expensive but during the last 20 years only clubs who pay big bucks for players have won the Premiership. We are still looking at bargain basement after coming 2nd in the league. City Utd Chelsea Arsenal Spurs will all spend big again and without top quality players we will only reach top four if we are lucky. What we need is quality experienced players to compliment the younger ones and fight for the first team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jun 2014 17:57:01
I can forgive Reina the occasions when he was beaten by a great shot or header , I can't forgive the goals conceded in the last two seasons where he made absolutely no attempt to make a save , and there were plenty of those .

What do you put that down to , MrT , coming at an age when keepers reach their peak .

Agree0 Disagree0

When he threw the ball into his own net against Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was unplayable. Then There was a dodgy goal in the champions league away at Chelsea where it seemed we was going to do the impossible,, he blew it that night, and he never played a decent run of games since that very mistake IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 20:34:48
Ed002, am I correct in saying that City will spend big only if they start offloading players to avoid getting into trouble again?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need the Manchester City page for that.}

12 Jun 2014 20:46:02
Max

Y do they need to spend again? They have a team for next 5 good years. And they just signed Fernando

Agree0 Disagree0

At least MCity fans won't have to invent a song for Fernando. ABBA done all the work for them already.

12 Jun 2014 17:31:14
My local team, Hereford United, have just been kicked out of the Conferance for not paying their bills. Seems like they were run by people who liked to spend, spend, spend.
I think this is what some people want to happen to Liverpool. Big signings, big wages, big debt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Which is what cost Red Start their Champions League place.}

Yep and you will be the first to complain when we don't get into the top 4.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 18:17:48
I have never complained about being, or not being, in the top 4. I want to see attractive football and players playing for the badge.
I loved last season for the entertainment, not finishing in second thanks to a "marquee" signing.
I trust the club to spend within its means, not to lavish the expectations of a few supporters who, obviously, would like us to get Champions League football and then be swiftly booted out for over spending.
Who we sign and the amount we spend, I will leave to the people who are paid a small fortune to do it professionally.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep but FPP rules area a joke. they have just reduced Man citys of 8 players for champions league to 5.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tristan I originate from Hereford and kept a close eye on what has happened there. It was nothing to do with spending, the owners systematically conspired to ensure the club were relegated and when they couldn't achieve this (despite sacking a manager and depleted the squad) they decided not to pay bills they could have easily settled and as a result the conference have expelled them. This is all about trying to make money by selling the ground not over spending. Very sad but no comparison to our great club.

Afternoon Ed's,

Not going to draw you on specific targets because they have been done to death.

From the information you have gathered and without including Lambert and Can, roughly how many players are we looking to bring in and in what positions?

Keep up the good work!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - This has been done to death and much will depend on unexpected departures, but a LB, a FW who can play on either side, a CB if the club can dispose of some they already have, perhaps a GK (not if the club cannot sell Pepe) and perhaps another MF player (perhaps a youngster).

Cheers Ed, Orbituary already prepared for the topic in tommorows papers.

12 Jun 2014 16:40:25
No big signings as of yet
Not even a hint
Or even hope of a rumour in sight

Lfc need to get a move on . Just my opinion folks

Yes I do want a big signing that's already established and can
Go straight in the team

We need to step up a gear now

Oi Rodgers come on son! Lively!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is not due to lack of effort. Lambert and Can are all but done. Lallana, Moreno and Lovren have all been the subjects of bids.}

Thanks for the reply

Yea I know . I don't complain a lot here
I'm just getting a bit ancy because I feel we need extra quality so we don't have to play sterling or Sturridge a lot etc we have seen how it helps

I won't lie I still wanna see a major signing it will perk up the team and fans

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Seemingly nothing will perk up the fans. Second in the league and back in the Champions League, team playing really well .....}

Im pretty perky Ed.

Well pleased with last season and happy with signings so far.just hope a few more follow. Mainly Lovren and Moreno as I think defence needs some work.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think some of us have to think about BR and how he is going to play the team and what formation and how attacking, then when we know this we will understand that maybe we have the best players for the positions already so we don't have to sign any big names just one that will do the job well, because that waht it comes down to, we might get a big signing who does not play at their peak or can't adjust to the prem, that's what I think

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 18:35:32
The window isn't even open yet hahahaha I don't br needs to get lively I think you need calm down mate. We've all but completed 2 signings of 2 fantastic players.

Arsenal signed a marquee player in ozil, didn't see it doing them much good. Price tags don't matter, quality and attitude do

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you not want to play sturridge

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 16:32:06
Lovren. a right footer who playes on the left will give cover for sakho and first choice on the right side.

A great purchase if it goes ahead as predicted but do you see both skrtel and Agger leaving.

Coates will leave so would you be happy with lovren, sakho, toure and llori

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jun 2014 16:46:56
Yes. With Kelly and Wisdom as backups.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Eds quick question. Not Liverpool related, but there has been some talk of buy-back clauses. Why is it that we see this much more in other countries and rarely really in England?
Thanks
Jack!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs use it as negotiation to keep the transfer fees down. Clubs look to sell to England for the highest amount.}

Cheers Ed. Do you see it becoming more commonplace in the Premier League in future with clubs attempting to keep costs down?

NO if harry talks numbers again Ed002 is going to find were harry lives go round to his house and break his computer.

Keep up the good work Eds and Harry

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I vote the latter!!!}

Brilliant Armchair Fan, that made me chuckle; love ed001's emphatic response too!
eds and fellow reds; Just a generic out there question; I am finding it really difficult to get excited or into this world cup; is anyone else feeling this way?
I think all of the protests in Brazil and the legacy of what happened to South Africa afterthe last world cup and all of the furore over the Qatar bid and Fifa's mafioso style dealings led by Don Blatter has left somewhat of a bitter taste for any level of enthusiasm.

Maybe after the group stages I might change my mind.

cheers
JFT96

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'm very excited. At work right now, but I'm recording the game to watch later. I don't believe my countrymen (USA) will get very far, but I'd be satisfied as long as they get something on the board. Ghana, Germany and Portugal are 3 very talented teams. I'm also supporting England (obv) and I'd love to see Suarez return for the group stages. The Qatar bid has nothing to do with Brazil (or Moscow) but the protests do slightly detract from the moment. Still psyched to see some world class football again

benitez has said they can't afford pepe's wages let's hope someone else will fork out so we don't get stuck with his wages on the books for the next two years and then have him leave on a free

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its a clever ploy to beat down his price, he wants to go to naples as well so dig our heels in ans demand a fair price

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Napoli are actively discussing two goalkeepers with other clubs.}

So why take him in the first place if they knew his wage demands?

Hi Eds/Reds

The beginning of my post is probably going to annoy some people but please read the rest of it to understand my point please.

Iv'e been playing FM14 (there it is lol) for a while now with Burnley and there was a player who really stood out to me, So I thought i'd actually look him up online read reviews and watch as many clips as I could find on him, Turns out he is really good in real life too. No i'm not talking the player who scores their goals but the one who makes it all happen even from a defensive position in particular right back an area were we would like to improve.

So my opinion is keep GJ for 1 more season and see how Kierran Trippier performs in the EPL and if he does as well as he did in the championship think he would be a good option to look at for right back for Liverpool.

Anyone else agree or disagree.

Thanks all and enjoy the world cup whoever your backing (I still have a soft spot for spain).

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is a difference between games and real life that is clear.
I hadn't played footy manager for years. then played the 2011 version. The young guns that came through and shone on that were heavily scouted and required a big transfer fee were
Sofian Feghouli,
Romelu Lukaku
miralem Pjanic
Eden Hazard

I read the crators thoroughly research the academies etc for most promising players

The next year I read an article they made Raheem, Pogba and ravel 3 of the most promising youngsters.

There are some they get wrong though. Tom Ince for example

Agree0 Disagree0

While you shouldn't just go with games when looking at players, FM is probably the best of the lot. They thoroughly scout players around the world through over 1000 scouts and have pretty decent reports. In fact, Everton signed a contract with them around 5 years back to use their system/database to scout players, and to be fair, it has worked fairly well.

Hello Eds, with the recent surge in people asking about a buy back clause in the sale of a player, I was just wondering if you could perhaps answer this question for me.

Is it legal for Premier League clubs to add a buy back option in the sale of a player? Secondly, if it is legal, could you perhaps shed some light as to why clubs in the Premier League don't do this?

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is legal but it cannot just be added without the player and other club agreeing. I am not going to explain why it will not happen in the case of Suso as it will upset people and lead to a whole bunch of grief.}

Ok thanks Ed, but just to clarify, I didn't once mention Suso, I was just looking for a general idea of why it isn't done so often in the Premier League.

Cheers.

Thank you all for the great job so far!

Not really a rumour and absolutely nothing to do with money ;-)

Without naming names, are Liverpool close to signing anyone? Or will everything be after the World Cup? If we are close, how many players? When I say close btw, I mean agreement between clubs and player.

good luck from today on eds that tearable disease of world cup fever is about to break out and it can get verry bad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey Eds,

I saw "Unknown player X" from "Minor footballing nation Y" play against "Major footballing nation Z". He really made "Well known player V" look rubbish.

Are Liverpool looking at him? If not, why not? How much would he cost? And why aren't FSG/BR/IA/Billy the Cook, opening their wallets to buy him. He's the next "Ageing foreign player W"!

I think people are getting a bit emotional about this whole suspect business. Would I be sad to see him go? Yes, but at the same time I trust it is the only option we have. He wants regular first team football which clearly we cannot offer him. He has 1 year left on his contract so we risk losing him for nothing. I think the preference would have been to get him to sign a new deal and either fight for his place like hendo, sterling and flanno did or go back out on loan again. If Rodgers thought he had the talent for regular first team football then the assurances would surely be there.

I've heard people saying if he only goes for 4mil we should risk losing that money because of his promise. That doesn't work on two counts, first of all we don't see him as a regular starter which is what he wants and the business is still haemorrhaging money so 4mil plus his wages is an unecessary loss. It is a shame as I know a lot was expected of him but so far he hasn't lived up to that expectation.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I will admit 87red I have been quite emotional over the whole suspect business. The past week I've been breaking out into tears at inappropriate times and it all just becomes too much for me. Just earlier I had to run from Tescos as I started getting very emotional. Its just that I love Liverpool and don't want this suspect business surrounding the club. There have been a few suggestions from fans of some suspect business regarding the Lallana deal but I just don't think this is the way to go. If we could get someone to take our suspect business for 4million this would be ideal. Hopefully you are right so I can get my emotions back in check before the new season starts.

All the NEWS surrounding Suso is interesting. As a LFC and Suso fan I would expect Liverpool to be careful with the Transfer and hopefully insert a Buy-back clause.
Porto have produced great footballers.

I wish we had insert buy-back in Jonjo Shelvey's Transfer too.

One thing I feel sad about is every-time LFC go for transfer the Clubs sort of bully LFC.

Christian Eriksen for example - Spurs got him for merely 11 million.
Chicharito - 7.5mil to ManUtd.
Bony - 12 mill to Swansea.

The Squad we have has challenged the Title. What we need is few good players and few Cutinho type transfers.

Hope we get the best of the Transfers in this window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jun 2014 08:06:50
Errikson was a big miss. should have got him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was a bit disappointed when Shelvey left tbh but he will never be World Class however he has done very well for himself and Swansea is a good fit for him. I hope he stays there tbh they're a good fit

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 09:27:58
But what your forgetting is this risk associated with bringing any foreign player into the EPL. Obviously, if other clubs knew how successful Bony, Chicarito and Eriksen would be the price would have been higher.
Also what about Sturridge for £12M, Coutinho for £7.5M and to a degree Suarezfor £23M

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds will know more about it all but I thought buy back clauses were fairly hard to agree on and seem rare and unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There will not be a "buy back" clause - we are done with this subject.}

Do you think Shelvey is a certain starter in the Swansea team? I think his place is under threat there and there is no way he would ever have been good enough for us. Good player and I hope he does well but I don't think his style suits us and, imo, he will never be top quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously I don't get all this suso talk, he's good but not that good

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2014 11:05:26
My point Jessie Pinkman is that he is good with the potential to be great and that potential cannot be nurtured at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers is a good manager but not that great if he fails to deal with this one.

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I understand from some posts I have seen is that the problem with Suso is his attitude, He thinks he is better than he is and doesent listen to the trainers etc, if this is right and he has problems with the manager and staff then I fail to see what alternative Rogers has other than to move him on.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Actually, Liverpool offered him a new contract. I have explained everything already.}

We might have offered him a new contract but only to protect or maximise our investment. LFC feel he's worth more than he'll go for this summer with 12 months on his contract. He'll be an OK player but not a great one.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:34:47
Ed002 -
Haven't read your comment about the Buy back clause and Contract yet will read it later for sure.
And agree with Tommy Walsh that we indeed got Sturridge Cutinho Suarez for bargain price.
I personally feel Suso should be offered to Premier league side on-loan before he is to be sold/extended contract just like Assiadi and Borini.
We don't know what will happen with Suso but it will be same case when it comes to Llori this season or next.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That would cost Liverpool too much money - they cannot afford to let him run down his contract on loan and leave for free - the club are financially not in a position to do that.}
