Just thought to mention that Raheem Sterling was absolutely brilliant!

Anyway, will there still be a loan signing if so who is an option? Any 'big names'?

What positions are we looking to buy players in?

Thanks for the outstanding work and effort put into this site - much appreciated by all:)

HI guys/gals/eds ,every transfare season we all seem to be interested on who we will sign and and how many millions we are going to spend nobody seems to ask the question who is the NEW STAR coming through our youth system! its been 15 years since we produced somebody special like gerrard/owen,true sterling is looking o/k but he was bought.I think its a shame we have to fork out millions for players like henderson who have POTENTIAL which they may never reach, I guess thats the price we have to pay for changing owners/manager/etc so often, lets hope ROGERS gets time and gives it to producing some of our own talent of which i believe there is plenty.(godin)

United forked out on potential for rooney and ronaldo and unfortunately they were huge successes, borussia dortmund did the same as have chelsea. i still cannot get why hendo is central to so much flack off people on this site.

ARE you actualy saying henderson is in the same class as rooney/ronaldo,Ive been around a long time and one thing ive found out whatever the sport the greats show it very early and it lasts a long time.(godin)

to be honest i think make a useful impac tsub this year, he s too young to play 90 mins at a time as seen in preseason gameshe drifts in and out of games showing flashes of brilliance but i think with himstarting fromthe bench getting 20 mins here and there will be good for him

could lucas be dropped fromthe starting 11 if sahin is indeed signed on loan

3 from lucas allen sahin gerrard

i cant see br having allen on the bench just having signed him even though i feel lucas is a better ballplayer, gerrard wont play every game but will def start whenever he s fit and ready
and sahin is very unlikely to be a benchwarmer

interesting times ahead lucas could well be the one to lose his starting place in the side

tom1975

Its a squad game

Gerrard will sometimes be used as one of the front three,it's a squad game, and we will play a lot of games.

Or few games move gerrard onto the right forward

bhav

Lucas, Allen starting

Gerrard and Sahin rotating

Lucas is more vital than Gerrard.

It will be interesting all right. If they are all fit I reckon BR might use Gerrard as part of his front 3 but I just can't see Lucas being dropped but then again Sahin does seem to be very highly rated. It will certainly make our bench much stronger and would seem to signal the end for Adam (please, please) and Spearing

Okay guys you seem to disagree so what will the midfield trio be?

which of the four won t automatically start

tom1975

I think Gerrard will be pushed up in to the front 3 leaving a midfield of Lucas Allen and sahin. This makes the most sense really since these players should all be starting. Who agrees?

I think that our interest may drop in sahin due to the purchas of allen- unless more midfielders are to go such as adam and spearing.
derryred

Sahin is an amazing player, i had the thought that gerrard would be used right sideof afront three, either way if sahin does sign we have an awesome midfield

tom1975

Imagine in two years a strong midfield of
Lucas 27
Sahin 25
Allen 24
Henderson 24
Shelvey 22
Suso 20

frontline

suarez 27
a.johnson 27
walcott 25
borini 23
ngoo 22
nacho 23
morgan 20
petersen 20
sterling 19

choices.....

I think from the games so far Gerrard will be used in the right of a front 3. And rightly so, get him as close to the goal and Suarez as possible.

Allen Lucas Sahin
Gerrard Borini Suarez

Is that not mouthwatering? Is that not as good as any of the top teams front 6? And with a bench of (possibly).. Dempsey, Walcott, Henderson, Suso, Sterling, Johnson. You would have to be the biggest pessimist to say top 4 is beyond us.
CQ

Last season we spent the most part without one or other of Lucas or Gerrard thru injury issues.. we had noone to cover and as such fell away from the pack when the going got tough.
With Allen and Sahin coming in we now have cover and other options.. in order to get the best out of Gerrard we have to accept that he cant play every game anymore.. and we will be playing around 70 matches this season cos of the Europa cup.. same problem we had with strikers.. As great as Suarez is there is always the potential for his temprament to cause him to be missing from games, whether banned or injured.. We now have options up front with Carroll (hopefully staying now) Borini, Possibly Dempsey, Downing, Sterling and Morgan.
Im looking forward to see how it all pans out!

Just cos I'm bored watching Rory eat the field.. Favourite Liverpool premiership moment.. Gary macs free kick against the bitters, still gives me goosebumps

Bored watching sporting history? Gary Macs free kick was special but there have been better moments.

True but there haven't been any better golfing moments than Gary Macs free kick

Whilst everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is what makes this site so addictive I am genuinely perplexed at what seem to be a substantial proportion of fans who wouldn't want to sell Agger for say 25m. As a club we don't have the money City, Chelsea and Utd have and that will remain the case for a few years so if another club is willing to substantially overpay for one of our players and we can then use that money to improve our squad then that makes sense to me. Admittedly I would prefer if someone was willing to substantially overpay for Adam, Carroll or Cole (in Adam's case I'd settle for anyone paying anything) but that's not going to happen. I suspect those same fans would be dissapointed if we paid 25m for a soon to be 28 year old central defender with a poor injury record -am I wrong?

And who replaces him? Is there an alternative out there that we can buy who wants to join us who is the same quality? The reason city want agger is because he is the best available player in his position.

Nevada

I agree with you. You speak with your head so fair play to you.

But, sometimes, emotion gets in the way. And everyone loves Dagger!

AZ

Ill bet you werent saying that about selling gerrard for that sum a few years ago when he was very injury prone.

'use that money to improve our squad' is so easy to say. In actual fact, if Agger goes so close to the start of the new season, we wont be improving our squad because first of all we'll be selling our best CB & secondly the new player coming in will be unproven in the PL and will most likely take time to settle.

If a club had bid £35m for Gerrard a couple of years ago, I think its fair to say that every Liverpool fan would have said no to that. I see Agger in the same category as Gerrard (not on the same level ofc) but he's shown his committment to the club & has expressed his desire to stay.

If you ask me mate, I would rather be competing with the likes of Chelsea, Utd & City on the pitch in terms of football, rather than finanically. This isnt going to happen if we sell Agger to City I'm afraid.

A.O'Rawe

I understand chelsea and city but the mancs? there in nearly 500 mil debt and every transfer adds to that debt

May not get someone as good initially but with the money we get BR should get someone at a very high level plus providing him with funds to strengthen other areas of the team so that the team as a whole is improved. Its clear to me BR doesnt have to sell him but he is realistic when he says every player has a price.

The head says 'sell', the heart says 'keep' Daniel Agger.

I honestly don't think we will be getting rid of Agger as Brendan said he was on to the Denmark manager about playing time and there hasn't been a third offer.
As it stands the offer was at 17 million and i don't see that leaping 10 million higher at the end of August...

Just read that the initial fee for Jack Rodwell was 12M. Unbelievable really considering we paid considerably more for Hendo last year as well as signing Adam, and 15M for Allen this summer. Rodwell is going to be a real player. I know he's a blue nose, but we should have had a go. Man City have just got themselves a real bargain.

He's no better than Hendo, worse than Allen, is injury prone and is a bluenose...City can have him

Hendo wasn't as much as you think, about £15.7 not what the papers say

When has Rodwell been fit consistently for the last 3 years? Potential yes, but I'm unsure if he'll reach it.

Plus it's a fee rising to £20 mil.

Papa G

I hope its true and that Everton makes a £6m bid for Adam. no one would blame him so no boo's plus he wouldn't have to move. everyone is happy!

Rodwell Had a far worse season than allen last year; you clearly base your decisions on football manager.

And your evidence for this is? he has hardly kicked a ball in 3 yeras

Good bit of business for Everton as far as im concerned, i think he is so average its untrue, always injured and can only pass backwards or sideways.

Potentially he's up there and could be the best dm in the world in 4 years. But will he stay fit enough to make it? Probably not. Seems like we should have a look at their academy more closely, what with Ross Barkley about to come through they ain't doing too bad. cQ

12 Aug 2012 22:43:49
Listen, if Agger does leave Liverpool, can we please sell him to a foreign country so we can still enjoy how he plays instead of watching help one of our rivals possibly win another title? Unlike some other players Liverpool have sold for big money not so long ago (Torres), i actually want Agger to have a fruitful career after he is gone and not hope that he is continuously injured if he signs for Citeh?

Ed's, we've heard Macca's thought info on Agger - have you guys heard the same or are of the same opinion? PK {Ed052's Note - Ed002 has explained. }

I would sooner take £20m from Barca than £23m plus Adam Johnson on loan from City agree?

or £10m + Raul Albiol + Sahin loan

I would sooner sell him abroad as well. i would trust rodgers but to buy in a decent replacement with the funds he is given.

12 Aug 2012 22:26:19
Have just read Maccas latest update and would it be likely the club would aim to use the agger money to fund moves for Walcott and amorebieta? If sahin signed on loan and Johnson was included in agger deal would this likely conclude our business for the summer barring a few more outgoings?

Cheers

Any realistic replacements for Agger if he is to Leave? I can't think of any. Fell if we get rid of him we would struggle to find a quality replacement within price range.

I trust that rodgers will.

If Maccas right about agger leavin ,I just want to know how is that movin forward sellin our best centre back ,I think it will be a big mistake n its a huge risk bringin in a replacement cause not all signings work out and if his replacement doesn't then we in big trouble seems to me cause we can't get big money for caroll we gne sell one of our stars for money,im not happy.

W.b

It all depends on how much we get for him and how well that money is spent. If City want to overpay for one of our players like Chelsea did with Torres thats fine with me. I just hope that the money from the Agger sale is used better than the Torres money was used but I have faith in BR in that regard

If he is our best CB then tell me why skerts was player of the season

12 Aug 2012 22:15:54
The CB issue obviously becomes a massive issue with Agger leaving but as he covered LB when Enrique was not in the side last season, does it mean we are also going to have to find cover for there?

12 Aug 2012 22:11:05
I was at the game today and just wanted to say that the 1 player who did stand out for me ( apart from sterling) was Robinson I think he's a more than capable back up to Enrique

Mat lfc

I would have said the opposite. i do not think he is at that level yet

12 Aug 2012 22:09:41
I think this would be fantastic business. Dunno why people slate Johnson, I think he's class. Pacey, skillful, 2 footed, agile and has a knack for finding the top corner. I think if it would only take 20m for AJ, NS, and TW then it'd be worth the owners spending rather than selling. Also - why are we so keen on Dempsey? We really don't need him and 10m is too much for him.

2 footed? Is that why he has to cut back to his left foot all the time because he is two footed?

He's predictable, lazy, disruptive and overrated.

Id rather have Dempsey than aj he is aggressive hard working and has the spirit of a lion. As a Texan I'm really hoping signs!

Burmesekraken

I'd take dempsy over aj any day of the week.

What position do you think Sahin would play in if we get him? Smithy

Id guess as a midfielder.

Back up to Reina, jeez

He would play in the role that Gerrard has been playing a number 10 if you will. -McMenemy

12 Aug 2012 21:59:31
Why would Agger leave when he has just got his new tattoo on his fingers? If I was citeh, I would not sign a player who loves another club and clearly displaying YNWA on his fingers! I think he will sign his new contract offer. He wanted more money, but has realised that he cannot play for another premiership club, hence the new tattoo. Agger is staying!

Torres has got a lfc tatoo

No he hasnt

12 Aug 2012 21:57:34
do u think are great cub can finish above 7th this season? tbh id be more than happy with 6th,as thats where this squad belongs!! Sad but true

I assume this is taking the mick?

Andy K

Good to see a bit of realism - I think we will finish outside top 4 next season but expect us to challenge more strongly for 4th than we did last season (that's not saying much i know). I expect that 4th spot to be fought out between Spurs, Arsenal and ourselves. I think we will finish 5th

12 aug 2012 21:52:33
any news on whats happening with danny wilson i really think he is a top player but doesnt seem to be getting a fair crack of the whip

12 Aug 2012 21:39:19
Would be great to see Sahin in the squad this has surely got to spell the end for poor Adam( stating the blooming obvious i know!)because this really would be too many midfielders, I asume sahin would take his place on the bench? If he starts would be interesting to see what happens with Allen because BR clearly rates him highly, rotation is an option ofcourse but I wonder who would start? I'm not even thinking about the front 3 yet! Thoughts anyone?

Square tomato

If we could somehow land sahin we could potentially have one of the strongest midfields in the league... Stevie, Lucas, Allen, Sahin, Henderson, and Shelvey

This would by my guess for the midfield 3 (CAPS)

LUCAS/henderson, ALLEN/shelvey
GERRARD/sahin

Rotating Sahin with Gerrard, Allen with Shelvey

Rotating Lucas with Henderson partnered by Allen at CM.

either way 1 of Lucas or Allen will always be in the team as they are the most disciplined and well positioned.

Never playing Henderson, Shelvey and Sahin together unless its a cup match and we want to rest the starting 3.

up front

Suarez would be LWF most probably at all times with Borini and Walcott rotating CF depending on where Walcott plays.

JOHNSON/Downing, WALCOTT/Borini, SUAREZ
or
Walcott, Borini, Suarez
or
Walcott/Johnson/Downing, Suarez, Borini
or
Downing/Johnson, Walcott, Borini

= 10 different rotations upfront (could make more but that would be all weaker front line).

12 Aug 2012 21:39:03
hope we don't get walcott he is massively overrated, fast but nearly always ends in nothing and johnson is greedy with a bad temperament both of these players had the potential to be at the hearts of their respective clubs, but are NOT would represent really bad business if they signed!!

I think he is underrated, think of his pace, he could be magic on the break with the right players around him, stevie g, Suarez and borini

Walcott is still young enough to learn from his mistakes. i'd take him over adam johnson.

Finally made the massive 180mile trip to go see Liverpool play today! Can i just say SAMI SAMI HYYPIA!

Watching Gerrard play in the flesh is unreal. Shelvey, Kelly, Sterling and Coates all have great futures. Thought Robinson and Henderson showed promise. Lucas, Gerrard, Reina and Enrique were very assured and Downing was again okay.

One thing i will say, is that Charlie Adam needs to be sold. He killed every attack he was involved in. Claimed an assist on Carrolls goal much to my displeasure, but that was more down to a thunderous drive from the big man than Adams craftsmanship. I really thought the guy would come good, but its his off the ball work he lacks in. You don't see the lack of effort on tv, hes just an embarassment.

It was a real great day out though, and my only criticism would be the toilets! Don't know how anybody can pee when your packed in like sardines! Big hairy blokes breathing down your neck and a scouser squashing you from either side. Waited for a cubicle in th end haha!

You'll Never Walk Alone Rodgers, 3-1 was a great way to kick off my moving from an arm chair fan to the real thing :)

YNWA! (Adam)

Was in the kop today, liverpool played amazing. Rodgers is the man this club needs, looking forward to the season! Sami Sami Hyypiaaa!

Whether you like Adam or not, why would you take displeasure in any Liverpool player getting an assist? You know it means that we scored dont you?

Andy K

Adam mate the bogs are all part of the experience :) Anyone notice that all the exit signs are spelt wrong. (maybe this is the wrong site to ask lol)

I wasn't annoyed we scored, but that Adams assist (which he only got due to Carrolls ability from range) will paper over the cracks of a very bad performance..

And i noticed the exit signs lol!

YNWA! (Adam)

More so the keepers fumble

Swansea refused Allen permission to play!? Absolute bell ends, hope we slaughter them and they go down
Tommy.

Why be so bitter and hate filled? It will not make a great difference in the future of our club, so why wind yourself up? Lets look at the positives i.e. he is now ours.

Andy K

How would they have the choice

I don't know but i still have massive respect for swansea as a club and a team. they were great to watch last year and showed that you don't need money to play good football and survive. i really hope they become a permenant fixture in this league.

If only .....get them to throw in ballotelli guarenteed entertainment lol

100% agree with you mate! I would classify him in the same category as Steven Gerrard (in terms of importance to Liverpool & personifying everything which LFC is about), although on a different level obviously.

12 Aug 2012 20:59:46
We need quality midfielders. When Gerrard was injured we never had a ready made replacement. Sahin will be a good back up.

U must av never seen sahin?? back up me arse, lots of gr8 players have gone to the madrid circus, sneider etc, sahin is quality
5 gold stars

He's too good to be a back up. I think he'll play Gerrard on the right of the 3 up front and Sahin, Allen, Lucas in midfield.

BthekingB

Shelveys not too bad

Sahin could also rival him which is always good, cos lets face it Gerrard doesn't always turn up with his lunch money if you know what I mean.

Haych

Shelvey was so careless in posesson vs Bayer. I don't think he'll cut it at this level.

12 Aug 2012 20:56:20
If we get over 20 million for a sick note I'll drive him to Manchester myself

He's the best cb in p.l we can't lose him

Why do you say that, he's a quality defender, I will be sorry to see him go.

Thought Kewell and aurelio have left? Bit harsh on Agger yes his had injuries, but first few seasons Hyypia and Carraghe r were on fire (theoretically) so his appearances would have been higher imo. Redevon

Agger will be 28 in 4 months time. City are getting a top defender (assuming he stays fit) but his value will only diminish from here on in so sell him whilst someone is willing to offer silly money. Godin at 10m seems a bit of a steal in comparison and I would prefer him to Amorebiatta.

I would have to agree, Agger is by far our best defender, but he is also far too injury prone, I wonder if getting this £23m plus Johnson would be such a bad idea, and we could also then fund moves for Walcott, Dempsey and Sahin. The move would only stop me from panicking though if we had a suitable replacement lined up as I don't think Coates is ready to fill Aggers shoes just yet. Would be pleased with Amorebieta though.
Cheers Irishdom15

I was wondering if we could throw some temporary tats on Carroll and cut his hair and maybe they would think it was Agger?

Kidding aside, I hate to lose Agger mainly because I don't know who would replace him. I don't think Coates is nearly as good and unfortunately while Carra is an absolute legend, I can't see him playing day in and day out. Anyone equal to or better than Agger would likely have already been a target for City I would have thought.

If he does go, just hope our scouts are on the ball for his replacement.

RDL

Any deal that may include Adam Johnson will be a bad deal, unless you get him on a free, with City paying his wages.

John B

Never happening. AJ is worth more than a nett loss of £3million

A few days ago I'd have agreed with you but someone made a very good point to me the other day that we haven't had a settled back 4 for consecutive seasons in a long time and our defence has suffered. So I'd like to see us keep the same back four - as Hansen says, he'd rather have a defence of average players that have been together for years than worldies who've just met

Adam johnson is a lazy player cant see him tracking back n pressing the other team he only has about 2 good runs down the wing per game the rest of the time he looks like he cant be bothered

I love Agger but 20 + million and Johnson! , i would take every day of the week due to Aggers injury record .

I read some really nasty message's about Spearing on here. It's really not on. He is no where near good enough for our first team, however he loves the club and gives his all. He is a fan.
Whilst I hope he moves on, I also wish him the best and would thank him for his efforts.

He does not deserve some of the vile that is written on here.

redphil

I actually agree with you. He must move on, but he is nowhere near as bad as people on this site say he is.

RenegadeRed

Totally agree with you redphil , i mean before we didnt want lucas and even booed him ourselves , but now he proved all his critics wrong and he is an integral part of the team . the same might happen to spearing no one knows

sabe3

Sorry it upset your son Mr Spearing, but people are only expressing the opinion that the lad is not good enough to be a Liverpool player - I love the club, and have done for over 50 years, and if given the chance I would die for the club on the pitch, it's just a shame that every time he goes on to the pitch, it really is an embarrassment.

Do not even compare Spearing to Lucas. Lucas has never been as bad as Spearing. Spearing is awful. I'd rather have 10 men than see him in the starting lineup.

Is he hell an embarrassment, he has had some really good performances. Your an embarrassment pal. Leave the lad alone.
Tommy.

hendo+adam+borini+carroll+downing=100mill
wouldve rather bought neymar or hulk!
when you put it in that perspective, its easy to know that we have wasted our money big time, just hop they can make it count in the upcoming season.

great site eds!

This has to be the most rediculous post i've ever read, and that's saying something!

MR EM

They play in two of the s***test leagues ever + their wages will be huge & we do not have enough appeal as we are not in CL

BobD94

You do realise those 2 would cost over £100 million

Yea let's go spend £100 million on one or two players who have never set foot in the premier league. Great idea.

Get behind your players.

Borini scored on his debut, yet he's a waste of money?

12 Aug 2012 19:51:50
Someone once said that Charlie Adams corners where worth 10 million on there own, from what iv seen he ain't worth 10 pence and some belly button fluff... Lazy, and over weight with a knack of giving the ball away then fouling needlessly...

Just goes to show KD and old Whisky nose both had there pants pulled down by a one season wonder player...

If we can include Adam in a deal to get Dempsey then BR will av pulled a master stroke in my opinion.

Curled1

Fergie said it

Played well for Blackpool in championship, 2 season wonder. Build your team around him and give him the freedom of the pitch and he is a right good player. We cant do that so he doesn't fit. I personally wouldn't mind if he stayed but can't see it. Leave the guy alone. He is what he is, and he is a good player.
Tommy.

Wonder if he'd be willing to part with 10M for him still?

Liverpool are holding out for £30m and they could get it.. Well, Thiago went for 40m euros.

12 Aug 2012 19:49:57
I know this isn't a rumour, but I was wondering, if Standard Chartered get done for sendin money to Iran. From what I read in the national rags £6b has bin lost off the price of shares or something like that. What happens to the shirt sponsorship deal coz lets be honest it's a great deal and how badly could it affect things like future signings and even the clubs credibility? {Ed002's Note - Nothing in the short term.}

6 billion is small change

Any way we would just get a new sponsorship if they mess us about pal.

Eds if we sell agger for that huge fee could it be invested in a striker {Ed002's Note - Perhaps you should look at Macca's post.}

12 Aug 2012 19:46:07
Sahin interested in a move but Real want to move him on permanently... Liverpool not interested in a permanent move at present.

There IS interested in Walcott.... BUT its all very dependant on the Agger situation - if LFC can get Johnson and around 25m, the deal is on. I'd imagine this unlikely though, although my sources say they are 'expecting' Agger to go - shame as he got one hell of a reception when I was at Anfield last week for the Europa League game. Walcott interest will be stepped up if Agger stays.

Finally.... nothing on Andy Carroll and nothing on Joe Cole.... Fulham after Charlie Adam but want it nothing to do with the Dempsey transfer. Expect a 5m offer to be rejected soon - lfc will hold out for 6.5m for Adam.

Spotted Danny Agger in poundland today, certain to join City he said

12 Aug 2012 19:38:05
I hate to say it but selling Agger for £20m+ would be a great bit of business by FSG. As much as admirer Agger he is injured far too often. £20m+ can be invested into certain areas of the team. However I do not believe Adam Johnson is the answer to our wide areas! Downing is more than capable of doing what AJ can, if not better. Walcott however I do admirer, remember his run against us in the champions league at anfield, amazing! He just needs support from everyone.
I know a very strong source in the Sunderland camp that they are trying to get AJ on loan and also sign Defoe to bolster their attacking options. I hope they get him and we don't!

Northern Red

Wrong on all counts!

NS

Stopped reading at the Downing is better than AJ point

redphil

How can you want one of our best players gone? Who cares if it's £20m+? It's about having players in the squad who actually want to play for LFC. Agger has shown his committment to this cause by first of all saying he doesn't want to join City, & his latest tattoo with 'YNWA' across his fingers has earned him even more respect from me. If we want to be competing with the likes of City over the forthcoming seasons, why on earth would you want to sell our best CB to them.

A.O'Rawe

Your post seems to disagree with the notion that every player has his price. Surely you need to look at the level of contribution a player has made in the past and how long he possibly has left and then try to put a value on that. If most of us had to put a value on Agger before all this City talk started then I reckon it would have been 15m or so. If someone offers you 10m more than this you take it and move on

Adam Johnson being from Middlesbrough, joining Sunderland? You sure? Somehow I don't think so.

We can nab more than £20m btw, and Johnson is a better and younger version of Downing!

Don't want Danny Agger sold at any price!

That notion of 'every player has his price' has exceptions I believe. An obvious an example would have been Steven Gerrard when he was rumoured or linked with a move to Chelsea several years ago. In no way am I comparing Gerrard's importance to Liverpool with Daniel Agger's, but I do feel that he is in that same sort of category.

For me, Martin Skrtel is a player who I would sell on if the right bid was made, but I just think that Agger personifies everything that LFC is about. His attitude & committment to the club has been terrific & I would see it as being a bit disrespectful if he was sold.

However, I do see your point & understand where you're coming from.

A.O'Rawe

12 Aug 2012 19:37:54
It'll be very disappointing to lose Agger as it seems it's an owners decison. He's the type of player Rodgers needs for his system to work....but the decisions been taken out of his hands! Madness.

I know we have to balance the books, and I know that Coates is ready (still raw) and waiting...but it just seems crazy to take a decision away from a new manager you just put in place and promised to back.

If this move happens it'll be the first time I'll be disappointed with the owners.

Sahin, Walcott and Johnson will excite...but the manager should be making the calls.

-Shane.

How do you know BR does want him to be sold, yeah he may rate him highly and he'll know his qualities but maybe he wants a defender who he can rely on more than 48% of the season and sees the offer as too good to refuse, just because he got a tattoo doesn't mean he'll stay fit unfortunately.

The manager said he IS making the calls!

Hi eds,

any news on Carrol?? {Ed002's Note - No.}

Hi eds/everyone, I think our Pre season went well, seeing some of our youngsters Lucas back Suarez signing a new contract signing of borini and Allen for fair price, I hope we sell Charlie Adam 1. We have lots of midfield players 2. Hes been terrible his tackling is all over the place his set pieces OMG he can't even beat the first man (red nose minimum 10 million just for his set piece, the worse thing is we fell for it) we defo need 2 fast wingers and 1 more striker to cover.

Lfc fan (from Cardiff).

12 Aug 2012 18:14:52
Did't see game, but just watched highlight and sterling looked pretty good. Reminding me a little of a young Micheal Owen.

Good ball control, and tons off pace, impossible to defend against...

He is ready for 1st team. Too continue the parrarells (spelling) with Owen, he is 17, and Owen in his break through season only started that season as a young squad member, ended it against Argentina...

redphil

Good ball control! Owen couldn't trap a bag of cement. Different players altogether redphil.

Ozone

Owen also ended his career at 26 because he has been burnt out.

BthekingB

Ummm Ozone, I hate Owen, hate him. But the guy could run as fast with the ball as without. No ball control... Argentina.

redphil

Went to the game today, although he looks a talent, he is not ready for the first team, he's light weight and is pushed of the ball far too easily, he needs to grow or maybe do some weights to give him the extra strength he needs,
I'm not knocking him at all just my opinion from todays match.
Paul the red

Have to disagree a bit. I think he's maybe ready for occasional appearances, but I'd rather see him playing in the reserves to gain experience rather than sit on the bench. He's a talent, no doubt, but he's got a ways to go still I think to be a regular member of the first 11.

Oh sorry, maybe a bit of a mis understanding. I think he should be in the 1st team squad, not a starter, yet...

redphil

Hes way to weak to take on the league atm!

i think suso is a much better player, would be nice to see him get given game time before he decides to look else where

The problem I think is if he's in the first team squad he won't get much playing time. I'd rather see him playing in the reserves with an occasional start in Europe or the League Cup. The kid needs time on the pitch, not on the bench.

12 Aug 2012 18:05:05
Its obvious that after our pre-season games that a few players have to leave.

Spearing needs to go, He's 1 of the worst players ever to wear our jersey.

Adam is about a stone and a half over weight, Not Liverpool quality.

Henderson. We just have to accept our loses on him, Will never be a top player, Was over rated at Sunderland and still cant believe Kenny wasted 20m on him.

Carragher, Looks like he's after playing 50 games already and its only pre-season. Too old, Too slow, Makes too many mistakes, should of retired 2-3 years ago

Carroll, Rodgers hates him.

Add this lot to the rest of the dead wood has been shipped out like Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi and we have a chance of getting top 6. Top 4 if we actually spend on peoper players. Im not impressed with wasting 26m on Borini and Allen.

Martin YNWA

Yeah bound to get 4th with peoper players...

Wasting 26mil on Borini and Allen ? clearly you have never seen Allen play, he's brilliant.

Henderson will also be a quality player and it was not 20mil...
G BOX

Arn't you a ray of sunshine.

Coley

Well aren't you just a jolly fella!

Redfella

Agreed, Id get rid of spearing, carra, henderson, adam and also carroll and downing. shocking last season and pre-season. I like allen but borini is a joke

Spearing - He should go - but no need for the vitriol
Adam - Agree
Henderson - I believe will be a very good player
Carragher- agree
Carroll - should go

I strongly object to the three players you have named being described as deadwood.
Either show some respect or try to improve your vocabulary

Puzzled

Amazing how you can be so disrespectful to a young lad who has dreamt of playing for LFC all his life, then sign YNWA after your name!

Red G

How can you imply kuyt, maxi and bellamy were "deadwood", no respect for former players who scored important goals for us! Then say weve wasted money on players that we've hardly seen play! Support your team! You sir have no class!

Red Lion

I'll agree with the bit about Carragher and that's it, I think your off the mark with the rest Martin.

Ozone

Theres only one bit of "dead wood" that needs getting rid of, and thats you mate. Nothing ever going to be good enough for you. It is up to the manager to decide who he wants to keep and who he want's to sell, you are entitled to your opinion obviously, but if you have nothing good to say about somebody then why not try saying nothing at all.
How about he gives a 100% but he's just not quite up to the standard we need, instead of "he's one of the worst players to ever wear our Jersey", I mean would that kill you.
Manners cost nothing, these lads were signed by "our" club, and if it hasn't worked out it is up to the club to resolve the issue.
Your not the only one that comes on here and does nothing but have a go, why do you bother? What pleasure do you get out of logging on and moaning all the time?
Everyone makes stupid comments on here from time to time, especially after a few to many beers. But here's a suggestion, if you have nothing constructive, supportive, or remotely interesting to pass on, go and do something else. Who knows that might just cheer you up.

Spot on Martin, I dont know how Spearing sleeps at night knowing that hes not up to the job, Terrible terrible player, Not even championship quality and every liverpool supporter know it, He needs to go now. He is a waste of a starting place in our team to someone who can actually play football. greg

Yep spearing is awful, hope he goes to n forest. its sad to see carra playing so bad and trying to keep up the last 2 seasons. I agree henderson is brutal, not lfc quality at all, needs to go.

Spearing is worse than bad

I agree with this all apart from carragher, he is a decent experienced cover for when skrtel or agger can't play and with those sales we'll also bring in a couple more players i think and will also give game time to sterling, shelvey and some other youngsters...I look forward to this coming season

I honestly can't believe what people say about one of our own players!! Maybe jay isn't up to scratch for our club but the lad could do a job for someone else.not even mancs slate there players as much. Come on where all LFC fans so get behind the team instead of bloody moaning

Agree with the sentiment that Spearing is not at the level required to play 1st team football for Liverpool but I'm a bit dissapointed by some of the language used. At the end of the day he is a Liverpool lad who came through the ranks and gave it his best - would have thought the likes of Martin and Greg would have a little bit more respect for him if they are genuine fans

Guys let's be honest he may go. But spearing doesn't pick the team. Would you turn down the chance to play for your beloved club. What's your dream been since you were young?

i believe the 2nd half line up, including the defence where all put together to see which players are the weakest links. hendo, spearing, adam, carroll all came on 2nd half and i think this was to see how good they are without the likes of gerrard, suarez, lucas and co helping them and from the 2nd half performance i think its pretty clear they cant play tika taka or pass and move, all four players hendo, spearing, adam and carroll really need to be sold and replaced with better quality, (spearing i think has been replaced by allen). if we can do this then surely we have a good 1st team and squad depth to challenge for top 4.RedTurk

There is only 1 player who I would like to see leave Liverpool. Charlie Adam.
Spearing may not be 1st team quality but you always need a fill in player who does not demand 8 million a week.
Henderson looked sharp today. I dont know what game you were watching. Carroll scored.... In his only half of pre-season training he came on and scored. And our manager of this tika taka style has already stated that Carroll can fit into his plans.
jonnybarnes89-90

Jonnybarnes do you really think brendan will come out and say carroll does not suit his team and he wants rid? How much do you think we would get back for him after that? Use your mind mate, every player brendan wants to keep he comes out sais he will fight to keep them at the club, as for carroll you will see if an acceptable offer comes in he will be gone. Big Andy scored 1 goal in a friendly, surely going to make a huge contribution this season now he's scored a goal!
come on guys, half of the people wanting him to stay now he scored wanted him gone last week, amazing what one meaningless goal changes.
Cal

I like him but if your looking for meaningless pointers he also gave the ball away for the goal

Doesn't change anything for me. He got quite a bit of luck on that, but more importantly gave up possession a number of times in midfield. Always wanted the lad to do well here, but I'm afraid he just isn't going to fit in.

Once again frustrated To see awful Spearing in a red shirt...

And Charlie Adam... doubt whether his age is correctly measured, looks like a 30 year old and plays, slow as a 30 year old.

Andy Carroll scoring, well GK mistake, ..nothing changes has to go

Joe Cole smiling in the stands... stand up time to leave.

Get rid of these bunch of players, replace them with better but relatively cheap players... Dempsey, Sahin, Tello/Walcott.

Top 4 beckons...good squad... . BR tack ticks, tiki taka starts ticking...

I'm a bit fed up with all the whining. Since when were you the font of all football knowledge? These guys play for Liverpool- do you not think a "supporter" should support rather than slag off and criticise?

Did you not appreciate the way Carroll created the space for the shot himself- not his fault the keeper fumbled. And the crowd bemoaning Adam- in a friendly? Come on!

Barring the Pepe cam compilation the best post of the day. Yes 100% negative, 100% correct though. Redevon

Please can someone explain why we shouldn't get rid of the four mentioned players. Adam to slow can't tackle, yes he got the most assists last season get rid. Carroll the sloth no movement how many goals did he score last season . Yes his young get rid. Cole been censored for at least five seasons get rid . Spearing has commitment but no other skills/ talent and we've got an abundance of central midfielders get rid. Redevon

I unfortunately have to agree, Redevon, although I think the manner in which they are all stated could be a tad better.

For me, I just can't see Andy working out in this sort of a system. He's got potential, but I just can't see that potential being recognized here at LFC and think it might be best for both parties were he to move on and find a team that will play to his strengths. Frankly close ball control, maintaining possession, incisive one touch passes, and constant rotation amongst the top 3 are just not his strong suit,

Hey ed's....Carrol played today in tyhe friendly....does that mean that BR is interested in keeping him???and seem like Carrol is staying
Manjo {Ed002's Note - No secret messages today.}

BR has already said he knows Carroll can do a job for him - and no one in the PL can afford him, so gladly he'll stay.

One thing is for sure (after watching our last friendly) we are extremely short on wingers downing and sterling are the two. We need at least one more genuine winger.

What to play on the third wing?

Have to respectfully disagree. We need more forwards, not wingers. Symantics maybe, but I think there is a difference. The interplay between the front 3 was completely gone today and I believe that is a necessary component for this system to work.

The second comment made me laugh cus it's so silly lol

Adam = Poor

Looks overweight, slow and his set piece delivery had been terrible.

I'm sorry he just doesnt cut it, Gerrard, Shelvey, Lucas, Allen and Henderson all ahead of him!

Anyone agree!?

YNWA jns

Absolutely, very disappointed with him. I'd even put Spearing ahead of him.

Jack D.

Yeah I agree.... Charlie Adam just isn't good enough, his set piece delivery is very poor since he joined us..... We need to sell him and sell spearing too coz he's even worse than Adam.....

Craig

Everyone should agree..

Red PG

On the plus side, he bought 2 Burgers, 3 Kebabs and a 2 ltr bottle of Coke from my Chip Wagon last night!

Result!

I'd have put Tom Ince ahead of Spearing. He really does have to go, and if he doesn't leave Liverpool, he surely can't be included in our 25 man squad.

John B {Ed002's Note - Ince left last season.}

I'm currently watching the BL game (recorded it on Sky+); so can't comment on Adam's performance for this game....

However I really don't think he fits for us, firstly he's slow, second he fouls too much (we want to press teams - fouling them all the time releases the pressure)..

I can't see him being a benefit to us and (its not his fault we bought him) he just is too average - hopefully we can sell before other people realise the same.

Sorry to be negative but I just don't see him being good enough.

Hoola

13 Aug 2012 00:38:00
Adam is a one season wonder! I can't recall one game for Liverpool whereby he was above average ...let's face it he has received his golden payday. send him on his way

12 Aug 2012 16:51:08
Whilst it is only a friendly, the second half performance has highlighted how limited our squad is, especially in midfield! We have so many midfielders but how many can really be classified of Premier level? Spearing, Adam and even Henderson simply aren't good enough.

Both Spearing's and Adam's movement is simply not good enough, virtually non-exisitent, and their passing simply isn't good or direct enough. Henderson simply doesn't seem to know where he should be playing or what he should be doing - "lost ... but not in space."

Defensively not too bad, but surely Rodgers has seen enough to convince him not to sell either Agger or Sterling (if either are being considered)

Hendo is a good player. Bruce, Kenny, Hodgeson and now Brendan Rogers see's something in him, now if 4 managers see something in the player then perhaps he may have some quality.
derryred

In what situation would you be playing all them players together? If any of them was playing next to our best players they would look better

I think Henderson will be a very good sub. No point letting him go, he is only young. I think Gerrard, Allen, Lucas, Shelvey and Henderson is enough in midfield to last us. We need attacking players and maybe a back up left back and that is it.

BthekingB

This simple post was simply too simple.maybe if you made it a little more simple us simple people would simply understand it...!

12 Aug 2012 18:49:37
so happy to finally see a manager who has an eye for quality. Jonjo in my eyes is clearly superior to Hendo and Dalglish stunted Jonjo's growth last yr with Hendo and the loans. BR has rightly put things in order. did anyone notice when BR moved Hendo to the wing and sent Jonjo inside? Hendo is clueless.

If we can sign Sahin, I'd sell hendo to fund creative players at least carroll is a goal threat.

12 Aug 2012 16:41:42
Big difrrence in second half is Carraghar looks tired and not suited to high line of defending and it means Coates has to drop deep to cover him off and i dont really know what Spearing is doing we got to add 2-3 players to add more quality so Squad is stronger throughout season...

Harry Oldbury

Don't forget Borini , Cole , Agger , Skrtel , Johnson and Allen were not even in the squad...

12 Aug 2012 16:41:12
Sterling plays in cameo's sometimes... And othertimes he plays as if he has some cameo's pulled over his head!

He is just a kid give him chance to learn at a higher level eh? Paisley's genius

12 Aug 2012 16:39:50
we conceded because carroll has crap control and gave the ball away which led to the goal

Its a friendly, oh and we won

Carra you mean..

And because carra didn't make the tackle , kelly didn't cover and it was a wonder strike. We also scored because of Carroll's great dummy and strike from distance.

don't hate

It was Coates' fault who didn't get close enough to Carragher and let him go into the space but it was a friendly, cheer up.

BthekingB

Carra committed himself and allowed the player to turn him and then the otherwise excellent Coates failed to close down

Why is it so quiet at Anfield? Were winning 3 0 this is not the Liverpool way...very disappointed in the crowd there tonight. LFC87

It's a friendly pal, means nothing. People taking their kids etc probably half have never been before

"very disappointed in the crowd" said by an armchair supporter who has probably never even set foot in anfield.

Pay the hard earned then have an opinion!!

A liverbird upon my chest

Was there, kop was full of family groups, little kids not interested in the game. One or two lads in the 300's tried startin chants but gave up.

Read nowt into it.

I took my two lads today their first game, i thought it was quiet but it was a family friendly game, also seen lucas and suarez`s kids in the boxes raheem sterlings mam went wild when he scored lol

anyone else think the whole winger situation is similar to a situation we had 12 yrs ago

paul ince left, and we were suddenly signing idan tal, jens jeremies, didier deschamps etc etc etc, all we did was put a young lad called gerrard into the fold, does it not feel similar to sterling, do we need johnson, affelay etc (excuse all the etc's), blood him give him a chance, if he turns out to be anywere near gerrard great!!!!!!!

i dont know many rumours, but me nans still available on a bosman from her knitting team, and there is interest

Sterling is really only 17?!

Wow! Amazing!

K.Bennett

Lad its only a friendly omg

Yes but sterling has hardly played for the first team. He looks bright whenever he's on and the fact he's 17 is impressive. So it being a friendly has nothing to do with the statement made....mate

Yes, it's a friendly....good observation!

The boy is still brilliant though! If he carries on like this he is going to be a star!

Then again, maybe I'm getting carried away. It is only a friendly after all! (rolls eyes).

K.Bennett

Brendan Rodgers asked to take him on loan last season if I am not mistaken.
Why would you try and loan a player and then not play them?
And if you thought that last season why would you change your mind this season after seeing him up close and personal.
I think he may play more than what we might think....
He frightens players and thats a trait we dont have in abundance.....
We should play more of the youngsters but then I look at the abuse they get if it does not go brilliantly (spearing|) and despair at the thought of Raheem having a couple of bad games and being ripped apart by those that "support" our club.

Charlie Adam's tackling has been rubbing off on the boys...
Sterling is not drifting central and swapping with Gerrard the way borini did against Gomel so he's getting man marked.
The guys are making too many risky passes instead of playing the safe option and giving away possession way too much even though the pressingbis very good and we getting the ball back rather quickly.
Shelvey is not making himself available enough. He's in the playmaker(xavi) position today he should be doing better.
Backpasses ave bee sloppy.
Guess BR will put Adam, Carroll, Spearing on display in the shop windo in the 2nd half.
Sterling is not running enough off the ball.
YNWA the Pirate

Cheer up mate!

Unbelievable - why would you need to put a player like Andy Carroll " in the shop window " everyone in the football knows exactly what he is capable of, which is why, I for one hope he's still an LFC player on Sept 1st.

John B

Cos our football is possession based, he has terrible ball control, his presence also gets the rest of the team to start punting away possession aiming for this target man who miscontrols 80% of the balls played to him. Now if we are playing weaker teams why would we want to level the playing field by giving away possession of the ball. For every goal he scores, how many turnovers does our team make in the attempt to get the ball to him...
We need players who fit the system. Not a system to accomodate the players we have, regardless of what we may have paid for them.

Tello and/or Affelay more likely than Sahin. Walcott or Adam Johnson in the cards. Personally, I don't like how Agger has been shopped. It reminds me of how Xabi Alonso was treated, and Agger has been nothing but loyal.

12 Aug 2012 15:41:12
I now believe Liverpool are not be pursuing Gaston Ramirez or Adam Johnson anymore. In my opinion our main targets are Theo Wallcott, Clint Dempsey and Nuri Sahin on loan.

Charlie Adam, Jay Spearing and Andy Carroll will be leaving.

Liverpool are going to turn anfield back into the fortress it once was bringing back the red nets the old anfield sign BR had the right idea doing what he done at Swansea last year I know it's earlier but there looking good against a strong leverkusen team with downing looking a lot more confident sterling seems a real talent for this season and Suarez and Gerard look amazing and a round of applause for Lucas and big sami too !

12 Aug 2012 15:21:20
There will NOT be a bid from man city for agger. The deal for rodwell rules that out. man city have an established defensive line up, and rodwell is cover if defender needs bringing in. Rodwell started out as a centre back and developed into a defensive mid. this versatility led to him being chosen instead of any other defenders.

12 Aug 2012 15:27:55
Just a quick point ed's, the latest rumours are understandably linking us with much needed wingers but with Borini relatively unproven and Suarez not notching up as much goals as he would of liked last season would it not make sense to buy a striker? A top notch striker who can bag a few goals in a front flowing 3 in attack.

Would love a reply

RedsMatt

We wont be playing wingers as such we will be playing with a front 3

Dempsey would be that solution imo

A player like Walcott or Sinclair would be ideal

PepeCam - The story so far:

In response to “Where is Pep?” asked on numerous occasions {Ed002's Note - PepeCam puts him stuck in traffic on Edge Lane right now. I say stuck, but it is moving slowly. I can see him waving but I think he is just trying to swat a fly.}
04 Aug 2012 08:49:00
Has Pepe turned up yet? {Ed002's Note - PepeCam has him back in Liverpool. He was washing the windows down at the back of his garage a minute ago but he has just slipped in the kitchen door after a few spots of rain. No doubt he will have a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade.}
He asked a genuine question ed that most of us are still wondering the answer to. {Ed002's Note - You should look at PepeCam if you want to stalk him. Rain has stopped now. Just a little shower.
Eds, where is reina?? {Ed002's Note - PepeCam places his car in Waitrose car park on Tulketh Street in Southport. He is not in sight at this moment. Weather appears pleasant.}

Does Pepe smoke Ed? {Ed002's Note - He may have been buying them for some kids stood on the corner. The latest update from PepeCam shows Sparky taking Pepe for a run.}
06 Aug 2012 11:52:51
{Ed002's Note - PepeCam shows our man to be having a light lunch of salad and vegetarian ravioli with a lemon sauce after a little light gym work this morning and his run out in the game yesterday. Sparky is being taking for a little run around Melwood by one of the youth players.}
Hi Ed's, can you update us on Reina. He seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. {Ed002's Note - He played for Liverpool yesterday. Checking PepeCam sees him turning off the A565 and I can just about make out the sign "Hillside Go ..." - I can't read the rest. I don't know what Sparky has been snacking on but it was probably a mistake.}
Ed002, you impress me with your knowledge of parks in Liverpool. For an extra 10 points can you name 2 more parks in Liverpool? {Ed002's Note - PepeCam is interactive and uses Google's Location Services to provide details of where he is at all times - so I cheat in that respect. I can also of course name Stanley Park and Goodison Park.}
09 Aug 2012 04:13:25
What is PepeCam Ed? {Ed002's Note - PepeCam spends the day following Pepe and his talking labradoodle Sparky. First update today sees the newly groomed Sparky frolicking in the garden as Pepe enjoys an orange juice and a bowl of Frosties.}
{Ed002's Note - PepeCam shows Pepe taking Sparky for a walk in Caderstones Park right now.}
Can Pepecam reveal if Pepe is completely bald or he shaves his head regularly? {Ed002's Note - Pepe has what is known by his coiffeur as a "Reverse Mohican". If the truth were known, he and Meirelles share a single head of hair.}
{Ed002's Note - Pepe has retired for the night with a couple of glasses of red wine after Sparky took him for a walk. Sparky is looking very perky after a visit to the groomer and later had fun chasing small children in to the boating pond at Calderstones Park.}
10 Aug 2012 10:05:53
{Ed002's Note - PepeCam Update: After a little light gym work and a game of catch with Sparky, Pepe has gone to the garden centre to buy hanging baskets whilst Sparky has gone off for his Advanced Spanish lessons.}
11 Aug 2012 19:16:54
{Ed002's Note - A couple of hours back Sparky walked Pepe all of the way down to the Tesco store on Vale Road so he could pick up his copy of the International Herald Tribune (special order) and a few nibbles for Pepe. On the way back Pepe became a little frisky and ran off on to Allerton Park golf course. Sparky soon found and castigated him. After returning home Pepe went off to get in a little light training and Sparky buried the TV remote in the garden.}
{Ed002's Note - There is talk of Sparky having his own Twitter account soon.}
{Ed002's Note - Sparky and Pepe have been out playing in the garden again this afternoon with Sparky teaching Pepe how to catch. Afterwards they played their favourite game which sees them standing on one leg the longest before they fall over. Sparky has got a little tired from keep helping Pepe up and is now resting. Pepe has gone inside to watch television.}
{Ed002's Note - A quick update from PepeCam shows Pepe chasing Sparky around the garden after spending two hours trying to turn the television on using his classic 1990s Nokia mobile phone. Sparky is refusing to tell him where he buried the remote and is now wiggling his hips and taunting him in Spanish.}
{Ed002's Note - PepeCam Update: A tired and emotional Pepe sits exhausted in his garden chair. Feeling sorry for him, Sparky returns the muddy remote control - after of course switching the batteries around so the positive and negative connectors are mismatched and it won't work. Sparky has quite an interest in electronics and is taking an Open University module (T356) in micro and nano technologies as part of his degree programme.}
12 Aug 2012 10:33:23
{Ed002's Note - PepeCam Update: This morning our hero and Pepe out shopping for a new television at Dixons on Church Street. Pepe has decided he wants a TV without a remote control but Sparky has his heart set on a Smart TV because it will give him some intelligent conversation around the house. Being on a tight budget they settle on a 24 inch LOGIK (Model L24DIGB11) for a little under £125 and Pepe buys £62 worth of spare batteries.}
12 Aug 2012 11:58:27
{Ed002's Note - PepeCam Update: As Pepe shaves the soles of his feet in preparation for this afternoon’s game Sparky installs the new television. Both are very excited about this afternoon with Sparky having a treat in the chance to visit Anfield. As Pepe warms up the car, Sparky calls his buddy Brendan and suggests the following line up: Reina; Kelly, Carragher, Coates, Enrique; Lucas, Gerrard, Shelvey; Downing, Suarez, Sterling. On the bench: Jones, Robinson, Adam, Henderson, Spearing, Carroll. And it’s off to the match hopefully to catch a goal by Raheem Sterling or two.}

What are everybody's realistic expectations for the up and coming season from us?

I feel as though losing Adam & Carroll are not critical to our squad but them 2 together could be our plan B, I mean actually playing the ball on Andy's head from not just wide positions but also midfield. Adam has better long range passing than both Lucas & Allen. I know that they are paid too much money to be impact substitutes and both being internationals would want to start, so may adapt their respective style of play to fit in with BR's style of football.

Scouse_Pride

Absolute joke......caroll is useless...and also used less..sell him grab the money and buy a decent striker who can play with the feet..
adam..is awful...slowest running train in england...his long range pass..are u kidding me..
i did not see even one the whole last season..

There should not be a 'plan B' if the boys play the way they are told to we wom't need a 'plan B which would be punt it to the big guy and hope, when we could be doing much more with the posession instead of handing it over to andy who may only control two out of five passes... Sell adam, sell caroll, cut our losses, its one of those mistakes that we need to learn from and move on, and not try to adapt and repair. With BR's system he got average players playing like stars. With better players he will surely do alot better. Top 4 for sure... Spurs will suck this season.
YNWA The Pirate

I just want to see an improvement, I wouldn't be too disappointed with fifth or sixth a's long a's we're alot closer to fourth than last season, a's it may take time for Rodgers to implement his style but I really believe he'll get us back to where we belong.
As for Adam and Carroll I think they should go a's there not gonna want to so on the bench and won't suit BRs style. I would love to see dempsey and affellay in as well!
Mr. E

Top 6 Minimum expectation

With Carroll I'm really anxious about weather we should get rid of him. No doubt if we got £15+mill for him we would be able to get a better suited replacement. But then you have to decide where he ends up playing and weather that can threaten us in anyway. Tbh Sunderland or west ham would be alot better than Newcastle. So with Carroll, I would prefer a faster, skilful, versatile player, but if he doesnt leave he can be useful as he showed us today.

With Adam, ive never been a fan of him. Most of the Liverpool fans aren't impressed by him, and there's a reason for that. He's living in the shadow of alonso and we would give him a chance if he was a 1/4 of what alonso was but if we got rid of aqualani I'm pretty sure we would get rid of Adam who is inferior. Spearing is another one who needs to continue his career elsewhere.

i would of thought..he of all people would have been ready

but i expect..........suso and pacheco..not to feature for liverpool this season.........

any thoughts on this ed......any whispers surrounding these 2 guys?

red lobster

And i think he is just not good enough

Look i think pacheco will only ever be a squad player i mean there are at least 4 maybe soon to be 5 players ahead of him.

You will find both of the afore mentioned players are on tour they played today with the reserves in ireland

any idea if allen will play tonight?
i realise he has only just signed but you never know!

The team in full is: Reina, Kelly, Enrique, Carragher, Coates, Lucas, Shelvey, Gerrard, Downing, Sterling, Suarez. Subs: Jones, Henderson, Carroll, Adam, Robinson, Spearing.

So no Dagger or Skittles? interesting..

STEVE

RED4LIFE

Allen isn't playing because the paperwork wasn't done in time.

12 Aug 2012 14:11:54
Allen is a replacement for Spearing in my opinion.

I was chatting to a Wrexham fan who said Allen is the best player that has ever played at Wrexham FC, he was only 17 when he played there on loan!

How will he be a replacement for a player who wont make the team

Haven't you just confirmed what the original post said... he won't make the team because there is a replacement!

12 Aug 2012 14:09:38
Reina, Kelly, Enrique, Carragher, Coates, Lucas, Shelvey, Gerrard, Downing, Sterling and Suarez to start today.

Piledriver {Ed002's Note - Sparky is there in the crowd.}

Errrr who the hell is sparky? {Ed002's Note - Not a regular reader?}

I thought Sparky was installing the TV at home Ed?

Theo will be joining us by Wed. Arsenal are not will to triple his wages even though RVP is leaving the club. BR wants pace throughout the team and sees Theo perfect in the team. As I stated last week Charlie Adams has been told he has no future with us and is now considering Fulham as we want Dempsey. All deals to be done by Wednrsday. Agger bid rejected this morning as we wanted A Johnson as part of the deal rather than on loan... YNWA

Triple his wages? So u think liverpool will pay him £180k-240k a week. He is on 60-80 a week at Arsenal....thats all he is worth

12 Aug 2012 13:52:59
just heard on the radio Manchester citehhhhh have been playing 3 at the back on all there warm up games so they deffo on the lookout for another class cb,so it wont be a covering cb,i deffo think they want a player with epl experience to slot straight in,manchini deffo does not thin micah ritchards can be trusted as a cb so i doubt they have pulled out trying to buy agger i think they will buy him eventually,i dont know how i feel about it to be honest, when agger is fit he and skirtel are one of the best or the best cb partnerships in the epl,but hes fitness stats don't lie.

Watching Chelsea play in the Community Shield, our midfield looks way way better then them. Chelsea have amazing players who play in the hole like Mata, Hazard, Lampard, Oscar, but we have none other than Steven Gerrard playing there! And also Chelsea players are selfish, Torres getting no service at all. It's been 15 mins and he hardly touched the ball. If Chelsea continue to play like this, we'll beat them 4-1 again.

Jack D.

What a good goal from torres well done mate wish you were still here

Excellent display by torres....was just wondering...what were KK eating and thinking wen he thought andy caroll will replace torres...Torres is irreplacebale...35 mill for andy?..he is worth 10 mill...the pace and finishing brains of torres is the best in the world...

Lets please not have a Torres love-in. Fair enough to say hes having a good match because he is, but don't start saying hes the worlds best striker etc. Thats just crap.
KiwiRed

How good are man city omg they are boss

Get over it & move on.

Yeah lets right chelsea spend what you like it only makes it that much more humiliating when we stuff them.

Chelsea have great players all over the pitch and we have not that is a fact.

However we have Stevie G and chelsea for all the talent in their team have no one quite like Gerrard but then who does?

Suarez replaced Torres. And more than adequately

Apparently Rodwell to city is done, good bit of business for Everton i think.

I bet he will be back at everton within a year or two...young players don't really survive at city anymore...

Oh how the mighty have fallen. It wasnt that long ago the Everton knobs thought Rodwell was worth £35 million. I agree that he will be back on loan at Everton when he doesnt get any game time.

Hi eds. just watching the build up to the charity shield. Can you tell me what the three stars on the city badge represent. Thanks. AP. {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

3 League Titles?

I believe it represents how many billions it took to win the league

They mean nothing

Nothing,they are purely decorative

3 league titles

Is it for amount of league titles .just a thought

One for each billion they have?

It's how many oil fields need to be functioning on a 24 hour basis to fund the team

The amount of billions they've spent to win the league....lol

Sooty

They mean nothing just part of their design

They are there to give a continental feel to the shirt and are purely decorative, the dont represent any trophies they have won, kinda stupid really.gold stars should be kept for better things than marketing.

red jay

According to their wiki page, they are 'purely decorative'. Weird...

I looked into this to. I was unsure as to why they hadn't 'added another' due to the league triumph last year.

It's actually just decorative.

Redheart

The total number of times they will win the league title

The total number of fans they had before they became an Economically big club. I think it consisted of Liam and Noal Gallager and the crap drummer who got fied from Oasis ages ago.

12 Aug 2012 13:17:21
With man city looking certain to sign jack rodwell, does this mean we can put the agger rumours to bed? As rodwells a versatile player who's more than capable of playing as a centre back. Appreciate all the hard work you eds put it! {Ed002's Note - RTP.}

12 Aug 2012 13:15:31
Walcott £15million
Dempsey £2million + Adam
Vargas - £4million
Quaresma - £6.3million
borini and allen - 25m
= £52.3million

Carroll - £17million
Bellamy - £2million
kuyt - £1million
Aquilani - £3m
= £23million (minus 500k pw {£24million} in wages)

52.3 - 23 = £29.3million

Bellemy went for free

Add tello instead of quaresma plus sahin on loan and that team is excellent.

Why are people guessing Carrolls price will be £17m? -no way would we sell him that cheap. The boy had a poor season, which is highly unlikely to be that bad again under BR.

John B

Quaresma was bought two years ago for 7 million by Benfica and has since then had an awful time. Definitely not worth 6+mil at 29 years of age.

12 Aug 2012 13:08:29
On a website website it says man City have agreed a fee with Rodwell (Everton).

Remember people said he could play Centre Back as well as CM - not sure if this ends interest in Agger or not (hence me posting this here).

Hoola {Ed002's Note - No it won't

12 Aug 2012 12:58:48
now that man city have agreed a fee for rodwell , do you think they will end their pursuit of agger as , rodwell can operate in defence {Ed002's Note - No.}

12 Aug 2012 12:57:49
Will be interesting to know what City are paying for Rodwell. I know a lot of people are questioning £15mil for Allen but if Rodwell goes for more then it just shows the state of the market and maybe those who grumble should actually acknowledge BR for getting a decent deal done.

Misschinandlerbong

I think the last couple of years they've talked about £20m + for a fee - yeap the market is warped but if he does go for more than Allen cost then I think we got the better deal. Allen has played a lot more 1st team football and has been more influential.

On a sad note at least he wont get sent off playing in the Derby ;o)

Hoola

You certainly can't trust sky, but they mentioned earlier somewhere around 20m. All that for a very injury prone player, seems to me Everton have done a fantastic piece of business. I'd love to see how Rodwell compares to Allen both play in midfield, but one is a lot cheaper. Si

12 Aug 2012 12:53:57
Any more on Carragher being offered a player coaching role at Leeds ? Please say there is or are we going to play the sentiment card, pay him 100k a week and wheel him of for the last 10 like the regimental goat till he catches up with Cally :O

Bootle's Richard Dunne

Please have a little more respect for such a loyal and great servant to the club! okay, he is not the player he once was, however he can still provide cover, and pass on his knowledge, and help the younger players develop. I see him being an integral part of the coaching staff at some point!

El Diablo!

Just shows what you liverpool fans are really like omg carragher as been a really good player for years and fans like you slate him, you fans should be ashamed.

I wonder if you slated carraghr when he was putting in class performances week in and out. will you do the same to gerrard and suarez when they are nearing the end of their fantastic careers ?
derryred

Carragher wouldn't be here at this stage of his career, if he had played under Paisley I respect him ,but he shouldn't have got that last contract.

City sign Rodwell
Do you think this could mean they have given up on Agger? I know Rodwell is naturally a midfielder, but he plays defence as well?
What do you think Eds?

Gotta say I'm very impressed by the vision for the club from BR. The players we are linked with are great talents and seems to be a breath of fresh air, when compared to targets last pre season. I have enormous faith in Rodgers and hope we all enjoy a great season! Cheers, Roblfc86

12 Aug 2012 12:33:36
Really please with the transfers so far, 2 good players with bags of potential. I'll be well chuffed if we get Dempsey too as he showed last season that he's a complete player. The loan signings sound exciting and the players possibly exiting are for the right reasons, so I'm really looking forward to the coming season & sure it will be an entertaining one for us. Come on the redmen!

12 Aug 2012 12:31:02
A lot of the Eds are saying we will almost certainly sign a striker but the ones linked to that role don't seem to be real out and out strikers. Dempsey, tello and walcott can all play there but are not really true strikers. Know of any other strikers we have an interest in?

Cheers

Red Rout {Ed052's Note - They may not be out and out strikers, but they bag loads of goals }

12 Aug 2012 12:42:32
Have to say, looking at our squad, we are only a back up Striker away from having a seriously competative team. I think top four will have loads of competition but I doubt Spurs and Newcastle will challenge as much as last year.

12 Aug 2012 12:39:47
West Ham and QPR are battling it out for our overweight past it cockney Joe Cole(or should that be Joke Hole?), we are looking at 6m fee, which when we have part covered his wages will leave us with nothing(4m in half his wages and 2m loyalty bonus...), seriously how did Purslow think that signing this cockney cretin was a good idea?? hopefully a deal will be struck and he will go which will ease the wage bill.

Come on he is still a liverpool player so lets back him. at the time he was a player we all wanted.
derryred

Cretin? Have some respect lad, he wants to succeed here. I hope he does. Come on joey cole. Shut these idiots up!
Tommy.

David Gold said weeks ago that Cole wasn't on Big Sam's list of targets and deffo not at 6m.

He certainly wasnt a player I (or most other Liverpool supporters I know) wanted! He has no game intelligence no pace and was at the wrong end of his career, the fact that he came back from holiday unfit and overweight tells you everything you need to know about him, seriously the sooner he is off of our payroll the better, he is ultimately stopping players like Pacheco from developing(who incidentally has put the work in during pee season), so in short good bye Joe, you're surplus to requirements, feel free to take Adam and Spearing with you.

12 Aug 2012 12:38:44
Hi Ed's
Herd 5 different people mention on here that Clint Dempsey is going to be at the game today? Is it made up ? {Ed052's Note - Probably, just because of Joe Allen being at a game}

Not asking a score out of 10 but what chances do we have of bringing in these players:
Mvilla
Cavani
Dzagoev
Sinclair
Damiao
Godin
Pohjanpalo
Sakai
Please reply and post in Rumours

WellHungOverRed {Ed002's Note - There is perhaps a chance of one or two, but mostly no. I don't know Sakai.}"

We have no interest in M'Villa as we don't in Dzagoev and Cavani . The same goes for Leandro Damaio. Even if there were interest, those players wouldn't be inexpensive, and in any case, we would be a less than attractive option for them right now.

Godin is unavailable. If that were to change, the calibre of suitors vying for his signature would automatically blow us out of the water, either. So he is no option, which Amorebieta is.

Sakai and Pohjanpalo I have never heard. Seems most random pickings to me. Probably far-fatched.
Which leaves Sinclair.

I had thought City were closing in on this one. Mancini's never been more desperate to get rid of a player than he is with Johnson. Sinclair's been identified as an apt replacement, or so I thought.

What do you have on this, ed002? Do we have a strong interest? City?
Lastly, anything new on Adrian Lopez? He'd be a nifty buy if we could get him. I know many folk have a liking for Llorente.
Doubt it. Would probably be too expensive and will have a plethora of suitors. I believe he has made clear himself that he'd be looking for CL. So, ed...

Govan Sami

{Ed002's Note - I pretty much agree with you. Godin is the interesting one as I am not convinced that he would be as good a buy as folks suggest. His form has been questioned over the past year or so. I have no feeling for where Sinclair will end up but would not be surprised to see interest from Liverpool.}

Pohjanpalo is a youth player, had a trial a while back with us, think he rejected a contract as wanted to have a season under his belt in the finnish league. Was/is a goal scoring machine and plays as a CF, would guess we will be in for him again in a year if he suit's BR's style, read that the staff thought he had massive potential so them having him on a shortlist of player's to check back up on wouldn't be surprising.

I've not seen any posts from a few of the regulars 'Bob The Red' and 'The Real KB' for a while.

Come on guys! Used to love reading your posts. Disappeared off the face of the earth.

Ed002, don't suppose you've got your cameras following them have you?

Curtiss

Thuink their the ones ed002 enlisted to put cameras in pepes house

The Real KB, has returned to his native Kabul, Afkhanistan. He's struggling for anything quicker than dial up, so currently unable to post. He's hoping for a satellite breakthrough any day now.

Bob the red, unfortunately has lost his typing capabilities after breaking the longest post record set on this site. He broke the previous argument between Chris and Jonson, by 2 whole paragraphs. He's hoping reconstructive surgery will mean he can return to full fitness soon. If that fails he's exploring a Steven Hawkin esq speech system, which will auto type for him. Currently his strong accent is hampering that idea.

Papa G

I think youll find that Bob the Red is in the middle of writing a new post as we speak - expect it to be finished by September

cozinoz

Papa G: I appreciate you taking the time to clear all that up for me mate, makes things much clearer.

I was just worried, thats all..

Curtiss

Great post papa G.
I worry for bob the red incase he is over keen coming back after injury and loses his fingers in a post/novel about how Brendan is bringing back the glory years.
I have seen the real KB post on the player profile site, the main site must be too much for a soviet era Afghanistan computer to cope with.

Steve Nicol has Slammed the Allen transfer. He said and i quote ' He is a good player but he is not a goal scorer and makes few if any assists. I am not convinced. I would have rather have tried Henderson the spending 15 million. {Ed052's Note -

That's why he hasnt managed top clubs all around the worldand got sacked from his last MLS job. Although he was a great player, he should keep his opinions to himself.

Cheers

Markolfc85

You could say the same thing about Reina. Neither he nor Joe have been bought specifically to score goals or provide assists

Markolfc85 mate as you said he has been sacked from MLS side at the same time he has won trophys mate. And rodgers hasn't won any of them. So in that respect he can have his on opinion and remember rodgers has been sacked and I mean sacked by reading at division level. So shouldn't. Underastimate anyone mate

Hi eds.
Is it true that Fulham have dropped the asking price for Clint Dempsey from 10 million to 8 million? I have read the posts but there is no real indication that the new price is correct.

If so.....Isn't 8 million a price we are willing to meet for the striker? He is 29, but had he been 5 years younger and a proven Premier league goalscorer, he would probably cost 20 million.

Dempsey would bring some maturity/experience up front and should be worth 15 - 25 goals a year. If he scores at that rate for 3 years, then we will get bang for our buck! {Ed052's Note - I doubt they will have dropped it so soon}

I do wonder about some of our ex players beglin lawrenson whelan & the god awful redknapp (at least the others were decent players!) never occurs to be supportive the ones that have tried management failed & they all hide in the media & redknapp's statements are contradictory & have little or no basis in fact should stick to playing the Nintendo wii the dipstick........ Paisley's genius

12 Aug 2012 12:07:52
as liverpool fans we love the transfer window, waiting to see who comes in,who goes, i think most fans are realistic and know we can't match the funds of the mancs and chelsea, but what we need to remember is we weren't a bad team last season, granted we poor in a few games but on the whole we didn't have the rub of the green in certain games, 1-1 draw with villa with 20+ attempts at goal is one that springs to mind, we did well against the top teams, hendo, adam & carroll had hard first seasons, hendo will defo improve, adam i would sell but carroll started to come into his own at the end of the season,he was unplayable when he came on in the cup final, i actually believe we should keep carroll and here's why, he is desperate to prove himself, swansea played lovely football under BR but had no plan b and it cost them, there will be certain times in games when we will need a plan b, and carroll gives us that,
so i am not really bothered if we don't bring in 4 or 5 new players in this window, i'd see how it goes till jan and then have a look

wardie

Dempsey is better with his feet than Carroll, & is just as good in terms of aerial ability. Carroll seems to be more clumsy in the air & kind of just throws himself at headers, whereas in my opinion Dempsey seems more controlled.

A.O'Rawe

In all honesty i think downing, adam and hendo weren't that bad and came under a lot of unfair stick. i think that they were central to the blame to many supporters due to them being the new signings and not making as instant an impact and living up to the huge expectations fans placed on them.

This sort of rumours happens every pre-season, but has not been mentioned yet. So I thought I would be the one to post this rumour.

Schurrle would play the first half of the friendly in a Leverkusen jersey, before switching to the red of Liverpool in the second half.

You heard it here first.

Team next season:

GK :Reina, De Vries, Gulacsi
RB: Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan(could be loaned out though)
LB: Enrique, Robinson
MF: Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Sahin, Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing(could go)
FW: Suarez, Borini, Downing, Afellay, Dempsey, Walcott

Irishdom15

No CBs? Interesting...

Very adventurous. A team with no central defenders.

No central defenders, we might concede a lot of goals !!!

No center backs?

No centre halves?

- Something Red -

Would love that team but i think 2 of the players on the list wont come

Haha, sorry I do deserve some stick for that, I guess I was carried away speculating about our forward options, is this any better?

CB: Agger, Skrtel, Coates, Carragher

Now a team with only centre backs still something missing

12 Aug 2012 11:42:14
what is the likelihood of us signing another striker this window? {Ed052's Note - Extremely high. }

Would you class dempsey and walcott as strikers ed? {Ed052's Note - Yes}

12 Aug 2012 11:38:35
GK: Reina/Gulasci
RWB: Johnson/Kelly
RCB: Skrtel/Coates
LCB: Agger/Wilson
LWB: Vargas/Enrique
CDM: Lucas/Shelvey
RCM: Gerrard/Henderson
LCM: Allen/Adam
RF: Walcott/Downing
LF: Borini/Pacheco
ST: Suarez/Tello

INS:
£6million- Vargas
£11million- Walcott
£0(loan)- Tello
=17million

OUTS:
£1million- Doni+Jones
£3million- Cole
£21million- Carroll
£1million- Eccleston
£2million- Spearing
=28million

You have no grasp of how football works. for starters £11m for walcott sure he is on the last year of his contract its ARSENAL we are talking about he wont go for at least £16m at least. second Tello is a winger/CAM not a striker. vargas is fatter than rikishi thats why his club wants him gone so he will cost roughly £3-4m. and finally the only club carroll will go to is newcastle who wont pay more than £15m with Ba included in the deal.

I think Liverpool shld look at Isco not because we need him but because he will become so gd also we should look at the Montpellier captain and central defender to help with backup these wld be 2 solid signings but probably wld be better 2 sign in jan

Haha- The Montpellier captain-cmon its easy to spel Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa!

Liverpool have to bulk up in the attacking department. With unproven borini and downing who has not impressed anyone last season. Suarez is the only real threat and could get injured very easily. A few young players may feature in the europa cup like sterling, suso and pacheco they are not ready for ttmhe prem. we need a replacement front 3 to challenge for places. Lw johnson st defoe rw dempsey for E.G.

Agger will remain a Liverpool player as a £23m bid was turned down by Liverpool because man city don't want to part with AJ in a deal so they have pulled out
Great news!

I hope that is true.

Phew - looks like we dodged a bullet there - Adam Johnson in a Liverpool shirt - Downing will be a star this season, and hopefully so will AC - Newcastle will definitely not offer enough money for him luckily.

I have a friend who is a training ground maintenance worker for LFC, and certainly knows whats going on. He told me yesterday that Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing back Milan Jovanovic - that is IF he can get him on the cheap, although he is willing to stretch to about 4-5m. To me it doesn't sound good, as he's an awful player.

Another player Rodgers is looking at is Newcastles Mike Williamson, as he sees a potential in him developing into a class CB. Expect this to be this summers major shock-move as Liverpool is apparently willing to stretch to 10M to seal the deal.

If BR rates jovanovic, i`ll eat my hat,and my shoes, trousers, shirt, jacket, socks & boxers !!

The Jovanovic rumour is the worst I have ever seen on this site ......... I suppose the poster has also seen Elvis Presley in a chip shop in Brighton .

Your havin a giraffe

What a load of balderdash lol

Eds, why is this not posted on the dodgy rumours page, it`s the most unlikely and hilarious one i have seen !! {Ed052's Note - Haha}

Y'know, I was in a chip shop in Brighton a couple of weeks ago but I gotta say - that Jovanovic rumour is kinda way-out baby!

I will list wingers we have interest in or have bid/enquired about:
Tello
Ramirez
Walcott
Afellay
Johnson

According to a reliable source Pep Segura and another spaniard I recall it being Rodolfo Borrell are in Spain talking to the likes of Tello Affelay and Sahin to try and convince them to move. Sahin is loan and so is Afellay, barca is loan or perm but they Want the buy back clause they usually put on their young stars. Don't worry it's all in hand and we will bring a winger in, I forgot Dempsey will almost certainly be coming..

Imagine a manager signs a player, the fee is upward of 10m . That same manager who put his faith in that player then hardly plays him and for the best part of two years criticises his attitude and commitment. Would you assume this player is a world class player given his own manager, who sticks up for other players on the team who are problematic, refuses to give him any credit or support?

I don't. So why does so many people want Johnson? Stan Collymore Mark 2 if you ask me.

Nevada

Totally agree - why would we want Johnson? - and Stan was not a failure - had a good partnership with Robbie - and he scored 35 goals in 81 games for us.

John B

I don't know wht the hype about A.Johnson is? Lazy and doesn't know the meaning of the words 'pass the ball'.

Am the same i dont no y people keep going on about him when theo walcott is younger and his attitude has never been questioned like johnson

Dont remember there being a problem with his attitude at Boro and Mancini has had his run ins with other players at City... so dont think it is a straight forward as you make out but i take your point.

Adam johnson is another downing over rated and over hyped up and coming english player that has done h,,k all,
jeff

12 Aug 2012 10:42:55
I'm hoping this Tello deal can be done a front 3 of Borini, Suarez and Tello would be brilliant, Gerrard, Lucas and Allen behind them. Johnson, Skrtel, Agger and Enrique at the back!

All other players we have will purely be squad players there to fill in when needed!

YNWA jns

That's too light up front Walcott for Tello.

Ed

Who is currently winning the race to sign Dzagoev on a free in December?

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - Dzagoev will not be leaving for free in December.}

Doesnt his contract run out in December Ed? Pretty sure it does mate from I've read anyway, is his contract longer? Or do you think he's staying?

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - He has agreed an extension - offers will probably be considered still.}

Cheers bud didn't know about the extension.

Hi there, can ed(s) please answer a quick question for me?
I heard barca haven't give tello a squad number this season, can you jus confirm if affelay has been given one? {Ed002's Note - Afellay is in the squad list - which can of course still change.}

Barca manager recently said Tello is still deciding wat number he wants. He said Tello will b a future star and is not for sale.

12 Aug 2012 10:36:23
Good morning guys, just wanted to say I am really quite disappointed with our signings so far, we just seem to be buying your average joes who I don't think will improve our squad. If we want to be at the top again we need to buy the top talent from the top teams, we should be giving Brenden the same amounts of money we gave king Kenny to throw at players he wanted to bring in, our rivals seem to be buying and targeting world class players whereas we keep getting left behind and buying mediocre players therefore the gap between us and the champions league chasing teams is going to be greater than ever this season! I just can't help feeling we are really going to struggle this season, it still bugs me to this day to think what we could have got with the £35mill we blew on big andy, we could have got a world class striker like Van Persie and still have about £15mill left, but yet again even when we've got big amounts to spend we still get left with average players, while our rivals get the top quality! It's going to be a long hard season and a hard fight to improve on last seasons mediocre finish in the league, I think the top ten is a realistic target for this season I'm afraid. Sorry for the long post, opinions appreciated. GN99

I just hope you're an armchair supporter and don't grace Anfield with your total unwarranted negativity. Good football sides rely on teamwork, not individuals, proved yesterday by Brazil v Mexico.

John B

God what a load of rubbish! Please support man c or Chelsea then you can get all the "big signings" you want

Just because his name is Joe doesn't make him average

I think your a few pennies short of a pound mate.

Morning lads,
a source of mine tells me that Clint Dempsey will be at anfield for the Bayer Leverkusen game - hopefully a deal will be completed tommorow which see's either Adam or Spearing (thank god) move to fulham.

A fee for gaston ramirez has been agreed at around £14mill + add ons, Ramirez will be a liverpool player by thursday-friday.

Norwich have also submitted a loan bid for Jonjo Shelvey on a season long loan - and liverpool may hijack arsenals £8mil bid for Isco of Malaga

12 Aug 2012 10:22:10
Not asking a score out of 10 but what chances do we have of bringing in these players :
Mvilla
Cavani
Dzagoev
Sinclair
Damiao
Godin
Pohjanpalo
Sakai
Please reply and post in Rumours.

WellHungOverRed {Ed002's Note - There is perhaps a chance of one or two, but mostly no. I don't know Sakai.}

Hiroki Sakai is a right back who recently signed for Hannover from Kashiwa Reysol. Whilst Sakai will not be signing for Liverpool it is a fair point that the J-league remains an untapped source of talent for premier league clubs. Im a fairly fanatical follower of the J-leagues and there is a lot of players who could cut it at top European clubs available for below £1m
Rusty {Ed002's Note - Thanks for that. Work permits would be an issue for many of the players.}

12 Aug 2012 10:17:09

Choices

There seem to be a lot of fans wanting us to sign 4/5 players whilst also keeping Daniel Agger and Andy Carroll. You can't have it all...

The creative midfielder loan can happen...subject to targets wanting to come...

The rest of the new new blood will now be funded by sales. Aggers' sale pays for his replacement (probably Fernando Amorebieta) and Cristian Tello or Clint Dempsey. We can get both if Charlie Adam is sold.

Carroll's sale allows us to move for Walcott, Ramirez or possibly Sturridge in that order.

Danny Wilson, Jay Spearing, Joe Cole, Dani Pacheco and Doni and Brad Jones would all be allowed to leave if the deal/circumstances are right.

Brendan makes the point that it took Spurs six transfer windows to become a top 4 team. I think LFC have done well to move on the thirtysomethings and I think the squad will look leaner and meaner at the end of the transfer window. For the long term we need to cash in on some saleable assets and the on that can be replaced with players who are more reliable fitness wise or who fit into the BR system are Agger, Adam and Carroll. 45m from those sales is a lot of money and will probably allow us to match spending of the top 4. It then comes down to which club has invested most wisely.

PieInTheSkyMan

Or Mr Henry could hand over 40m and we'll just sell Adam

You realise Leeds and Rangers have faced oblivion for debts not much more than 40m but you talk like its slummy down the back of the sofa. Get real - Agger is no Beckenbauer and Carroll is plain ordinary.

12 Aug 2012 10:15:10
The world legend gets thrown around quite a lot these days. Rarely is it justified, but for one man in recent LFC history it is.

Sami Hyypia take a bow. One of the best centre halfs in modern times, one of the best buys in premiership history and a true gentleman.

Sami YNWA.

Papa G

Your right with your comment about sami , and i think the brazil players agents are fantastic they make every one think that if he is brazilian he must be worth over 25 million at least , i am still better than nymar and i am 62 .

Wanted to click Agree a 1,000 times but life's too short - so here yer go - Agree 1,000 Disagree 0

Sami is the best Centre Back to ever play in the Premier League. A different class on and off the field to the likes of John Terry and Rio Ferdinand.

Kev.

- de Vries will sign
- Adam plus cash for Dempsey
- Sahin on loan
- Afellay or Tello on loan
- Carroll off to Newcastle
- Agger's going nowhere
- Skrtel's signing a new contract

Luis

Hope so, sounds good. L19 Red

Not a rumour eds but just wondering if you think there will be much activity on the transfer front for Liverpool this week in the lead up to the opening weekend of the PL? Do you know of any deals that are close? {Ed002's Note - We cannot easily answer the timing of transfers but I understand that efforts are being amde right now to see what can be done with at least one player. So you need a little patience.}

Sparky needs his own fan appreciation page like ED002 has on facebook. Pepe cams the best. Si

12 Aug 2012 09:11:05
There seem to be a lot more positive posts about the possible signing of Clinton Dempsey now! Suspect a lot of the moaners have gone quiet since Thursday. Personally I think he would be a solid signing, experienced PL player who can contribute goals, some people have suggested FSG want him because he is American, you know what? I don't have a problem with that. It doesn't detract from his abilities which are proven in the league in which we play and if he can sell a lot of shirts and attract sponsors in one of the largest markets in the world 8M would be a fare price to pay! Ged.

12 Aug 2012 09:06:10

I'm hearing that Dempsey will be at Anfield to watch the match today.

Mr C

12 Aug 2012 08:42:04
I've watched a lot of gaston Ramirez and think he really top player. However I think if he moves to the prem he will take a year or two to settle. Ill explain my reasoning now. He is very tall but not that strong up top so that will need work. He also likes to pass the ball in his own time and do you know who else use to like to do that? Aqua. He is also quite dangly legged which won't help him at the start.

I would love to sign him but I don't think he would be an instant hit but with his height and long legs he could be a monster after he gets stronger. Throw in his technical ability and we could have one of the worlds best on our hands.

1stly, thank u Eds & Macca. The only site that I look at before I sleep & 1st thing when I wake up.

Looking forward to the new season. Got a great feeling that it's gonna be a better year for all of us. We are the Champions in the making.

Luck is when opportunity meets hardwork & I believe we have both now. Played badly & still won the game (vs Gomel 1st leg). Played awesomely & won with good margin (vs Gomel 2nd leg). Tell tale sign of winning side. How many times have we seen Man Utd did that? Our time have come!

To the loyal faithful fans at future games. Please be the 12th man like we always do. Be it home or away games. Give us, fans who are a thousands miles away, the goosebumps when we hear you cheering the team on.

On behalf of my mom, dad, brothers and sister and all the fans in Singapore, I wish LFC, the best of luck in the coming season.

Med, LFC-SG

Don't get too exited. You realise we have reached the points target that Spurs needed to get top 4 last season just THREE times in TEN years. This season is about establishing the style of play and hopefully challenging for CL. We are a million miles away from the title and to suggest otherwise is imply wishful sinking. We have been. Club in long and slow decline. In FSG and Rodgers we may have people who can halt the decline and hopefully reverse it.

PieInTheSkyMan

I very much doubt we will be champions for a couple of years. Gomel r not exactley a top draw side r they? Atleast 3 seasons away from challenging for the title.
Indian Buzzer

Yes its just Gomel and yes I'm not expecting us to be champions this coming season. As long as I have wait, I will wait again till we reach the top.

I'm just excited with this new project. I believe we have the right people at LFC now. Like PieInTheSkyMan said, let's hope the reverse is happening now. Good times ahead.

Med, LfcSg

I don't understand y liverpool are so confident of signing Theo Walcott & Nuri Sahin, with Sahin he wants to stay & if he is goin to be shipped out then he prefers a move to Arsenal who look very likely to ship out Song & sign a dm. And with Walcott why would he leave in which he is a first team player for a team who have qualified for a champions league spot and look in much better shape than liverpool (despite rvp's future). And finally Joe Allen will never in a million years be a better than Paul Scholes

A UNITED FAN

Whats it got to do with you? And Man Utd would kill to have Joe Allen now. He is so much better than Carrick, Anderson and Scholes.

Ahhhh bless another worried united fan about who liverpool sign and how well we'll do, Thanks lad but we dont need or want your opinions about our club and i would be very worried about your own clubs future which isn't as bright as you lot think it is.

A LIVERPOOL FAN

U mean a Fergie Fan since he won utd 30 trophys and utd were nothing before him. How many years left till he kicks the bucket and u go back to being nothing again, or become city fans? How u fans must be wishing he were 39!
YNWA The Pirate.

Thanks united fan why are you so interested in us is it because you have contingency plans if you end up like rangers.

Tbh if he reaches 75% of scholes ability then we have a great player on our hands, you brought him out of retirement and he's still your best mid so please don't criticise our transfers until you sort out your own replacements :)

SideShowBob

Joe Allen is not better than scholes coming from an lfc fan.

Agree with it all except the Paul Scholes comment. Don't be daft.

Joe Allen IS a better player than the current Paul Scholes, he's 37 FFS.

I'm a huge liverpool fan and i can truthfully admit that Allen is not better than scholes...he might be in a few years!

WOW from a Man Utd fan, whose team relies on two old players, and one who had to come out of retirement with a zimmer frame. Wonder who's next to come out of retirement, i know Neville. Allen will be twice the player Scholes ever was. Cant wait to see your geriatrics being run ragged at anfield by Allen,Gerrard,Lucas. Si

Allen is already better than the 40 year old

Heh heh! Back on the Liverpool page talking about scholes eh? Dare not go on the man city page because they are still laughing? & never mind scholes where is the great Anderson who arrived with such acclaim? Or is he steadily bedding in? Tick tock tick tock getting old together! Paisley's genius

Good Morning EDS,

revealed that a bid from a premier league had been submitted for McVilla. Who do you think it may be?
Thanks for your good work.

David Gozo Malta {Ed002's Note - It was from Spurs.}

I presume he means M'Vila.
KiwiRed

He wouldn't get in our team anyway.

Lucas > M'Villa.

That's an odd one. They already have Parker sandro and Huddlestone for that holding midfield spot. He is not a replacement for modric.

Sounds like some new McDonald's burger

DanS

He is better than lucas, AT THE MOMENT!

Walcott presents a Joe Cole-esque conundrum.

Here is another player that has more than sufficient technical and physical attributes but suffers the same fundamental flaw, a complete lack of a footballing brain.

Walcott has been at Arsenal for years, during which time he had the opportunity to learn from some of the most intelligent forward player the Eglish top flight has ever seen. All this at their blistering and surprising best during his formative years.

I don't doubt he is a nice enough lad but am told he has a grossly inflated opinion of his footballing ability and Arsenal fans would be quietly pleased to see him go.

I wonder if the gaffer can solve the conundrum.

The Squirrel

Couldn't agree more, I hope to goodness we don't sign him. He'd be best served training for the Olympic 100 metres than playing football. He's got pace and that's it.

Ozone

You have hit the nail on the head, I believe Cole and Walcott can not change we need to stay well away!

NS

He had the chance to come once before but did not so i say if we want him we should pay less than we paid for adam

22 goals & 23 assists in two seasons is by no means failure. People give too much stick to Walcott, he made a considerable improvement last season & would have him over Downing all day long

I have watched and read the posts on here recently and despite some reservations on posting, I would like to make a few comments:

1) Brendan Rogers has greatly impressed me despite me being a die hard Dalglish supporter. Welcome to LFC Brendan!
2) Borini has all the attributes to become a world class striker, he will be an icon for LFC supporters in the coming season. Welcome Fabio YNWA!
3) I had never watched Joe Allen properly until the Olympics, but who couldnt have been impressed with his class, workrate and vision? He will become a legend at LFC, alongside greats like Stevie, Dalglish, Souness etc. Welcome Joe YNWA!
4) The support for Carrol has been impressive despite the strong belief by a lot of the EDs that he will probably leave. I know we dont always agree with the EDs, but you have to accept that they clearly know more than us mere mortals ! I personally hope he stays, he offers us a completey different option up front and his defensive work is impressive. Good luck Andy, hope you stay !
5) Dare I dream ? Dare I take that leap of faith that I want to ? We have the making of a top top team....why cant we be top of the shop at the end of the season? If we dont win the league this season it is not the end of the world, remember we have Gerard, Suarez, Borini, Joe Allen, Andy Carrol, Dagger, Skrtl, Reina, Johnson, Luca Leiva plus loads of very good players such as Henderson, Downing, Kelly, Enrique, Carragher, Coates, Suso, Sterling etc Make no mistake this is a TOP SQUAD, the envy of many.

We can do well this season and with a little bit of luck and some great support, who knows .... we can dream cant we ?

Tel 1949

What a top post, nice and positive for a change. I fully agree with everything u say, and think that with a few tweaks, we can become a formidable team

Good post agree with it all barring Andy censored Carroll. I haven't had a love hate feeling for a player since Harry censored Kewell. Miss grayman and co Redevon

Positive post lad, good on u, top 4 realistic. Can't see a title challenge but stranger things happened. Made up with Allen
Tommy.

I like your optimism. However I can't see Liverpool winning the league this year.
We do have all the pieces (or almost) to really have a go though.

MIKEY

Well done Tel1949 love your positivity and as Mr Dalglish always said....let's add up the points at the end of the season and see where we are

I wouldn't mind Walcott, I've always thought he would be a better player if used more centrally but my preference would be for Johnson as I believe he has huge talent.
Either if them surely spells the end for Downing though

Chris in Tamworth

I think the problem with Walcott is that he has always been played out of position for Arsenal and Usually England too.. he isnt a winger.. he is a striker and when played up front he usually scores. I imagine a front 3 of Borini, Suarez and Walcott could potentially be awesome!
ItsNotRocketScience

Is there a rule at Liverpool where we are only allowed one winger at the club.

My favourite side was the late 70's,and midfield of Ray Terry Graeme and Jimmy. Not a winger in sight, but loads of goals from them. You don't need wingers to be successful.

I think Downing still has a role to play even if we sign 2 wingers. Id prefer Dempsey over Johnson and Walcott though.

Kaizer

Downing is needed for squad depth, Chris. Plus, I think Walcott would suit the system a lot more than Adam Johnson and wouldn't cause half as much trouble off the field.

why are Chelsea buying so many players? {Ed049's Note - because they need replacements?}

They can have as many new players as they like. They will still play 8-1-1. Di Matteo is even more negative than Roy Hodgson.

You being a little biased. Did you watch RDM's West Brom play? They played nice football. RDM did what he had to to win UCL with team he had. Kudo's to him.

Would just like to make another post to try and help avoid confusion.
Official twitter accounts have a blue tick next to the users names, people are reporting players saying stuff on twitter which is infect off a fake/fanpage account.
Please look for a blue tick before taking the tweet as gospel, will save Eds and other posters a lot of work correcting you, and stop you getting excited/upset over nothing.
Cal

The easiest way to Follow LFC players staff on Twitter is to find Lucas Leiva and add from who he follows!
Not everyone has a blue tick.. Tho a lot do.. There are many of LFC backroom staff for instance that wont have a verified tick but they are who they say they are, Darren Burgess and Chris Morgan for instance.
Players definiatly using twitter are Suarez, Pacheco, Enrique, Johnson, Coates, Ecclestone, Flanagan, Suso, Adam and Morgan.. Most of the reserve and under 18s team are on there too.. Also, Kenny Dalglish, Terry Mac, Alonso, Ruddock and numerous other Ex LFC are on twitter.

I know a few people on here may slate me for this, saying 'you're judging him on one tournament' and stuff, but I hope BR is seriously considering scouted the Mexico CB Diego Reyes. I have watched him over the tournament play very well and look composed, allbeit against poor opposition (compared to the Premier League). However, today he was playing against the likes of Alexandre Pato, Leandro Damaio, Hulk, Neymar, Lucas, Oscar- and although as a whole they were pretty poor he was still playing against some of the worlds best attacking talent. Anyway, I decided to do a bit of basic research on him- watch a few videos, check his wikipedia etc, etc. After all of that I must say I was even more impressed. He seems technically adequate, strong and at 6ft2in he is blessed with a presence in the air. The kid is only 19 and already has three international caps to his name (for Mexico). Look, I'm not saying this guy is the new Alan Hansen, I'm just saying if he can be picked up at a cheap price (I presume his price will inflate after the Olympics) he should seriously be looked at. And, yes, i'm aware that we have Wisdom, Sama, Wilson, Coady, Coates who are all good, young CB's but you can never have too many options.

Would not a work permit be an issue? Not that I agree/disagree but think is generally why you don't see a whole lot of young non-EU players in the PL?

Hi Eds - sorry if I already sent this post - stupid bloody laptop acting up and wife giving me grief about being addicted to a laptop (but she has not been acquainted with the addiction commonly known as 'Liverpool Rumours').

Anyway I wanted to send a post about how much confidence i have in FSG ( yes I realise I may get slaughtered again as I did last night about daring to ask a question about Lucas). I reckon FSG are doing a great job - got rid of Hodgson promptly, listened to fans and gave them KK, gave him cash, sacked him promptly when it was clear he wasnt up to it and then had the courage to appoint a young and relatively unknown manager. Judging by most of the posts on this site we are on the up again (amazing what one game against FC Gomel will do) - not much mention now of KK

I know its very hard for you guys to.answer this but does it seem like we are going for Dempsey more than other targets such as tello? I'm no expert in the club but doesn't make much sense, he is a good player but his age, query on whether he can play tiki taka style and he doesn't fix our much needed lack of pace in the side, fingers crossed on someone of the ilk of tello, Ramirez or Walcott

Ramirez isn't awfully pacey if I'm correct. People need to stop talking about him like he's a god, I'm sure he's not as good as people think.
Cal

Dempsey would make more of an impact next year than any of the 3 you named.. although they are all good and would be welcome too

I am pretty much sure you would have taken Robin Van persie if he was to come to Liverpool. Dempsey is just 4 months and 27 days older than RVP and he has got 3-4 good years left in him as they start their pro career a little bit late. To me he will be a fantastic signing who gives everything for the team . A true Warrior.

Agreed. Would love to see Dempsey come in. A front 3 of Dempsey-Borini-Suarez would, I think, be amazing to watch. All versatile, scrappy, and talented players with good work rates and the ability to finish. Sounds good to me anyway...

^ Clint is that you?

Haha! Brilliant!

Ramirez is not a winger. He would essentially be played in Gerrard's position as the AM supporting the front 3. I think he is a top player - could be Stevie's replacement in a few years (but sign him now to learn and adjust, squad game).

So if Man City are prepared to pay £22m for Agger, will LFC sell, I think it is very likely.
Personally, I think LFC should hold out for more, and force Citys hand.
Nuff said.

Arjen Robben is our loan superstar. Just watch!

Thankfully this is probably bs. Too greedy for my liking.

Hi eds and reds

A question for you all. If you could pick 3 out of the following players for LFC, who would you go for?

Tello
Sinclair
Dempsey
Walcott
Adam Johnson
Sahin

If I had my way, I would go for Sahin, Dempsey and Walcott.

With a midfield choice and quality of Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson! Shelvey and Sahin (ovbiously, not all at the same time) we seriously would be a force next season imo.

Dempsey, I would choose for his brilliant ability to play wide or up top. He would be ideal to go into more than one position if needed/required, plus he scores goals!

As for Walcott, he's always seemed to me to have bags of potential but has never shown it. For some reason, I just feel he would actually start to show his ability if he was at LFC. And we could certainly do with his pace in the team. Also, him being an LFC fan could well bring out that passion and feeling from inside him (you guys know the feeling I'm on about right?). That could in turn cause his game to raise to higher level.

I would love to hear everyone elses choices....

Thanks all

K.Bennett

I agree with everything you said haha cheers ynwa

I'm not referring particularly to your posible list but , based on recent suggestions I reckon the 3 sigings of Dempsey , Walcott & Sahin would just about put the LFC squad in amazing shape for the following season .

I cannot think of 3 better signings to be honest , unless BR surprises us .

Exactly the same!

RedKopite

All of them apart from Johnson, he's a moany little arrogant t**t.

Rob

I would pick these 4

Walcott for around £15m replacing Andy Carroll.

Sahin - loan.

Quaresma - asking price 8m euros - £6.3m

Vargas - asking price £4m

= £25.3 millon

but £50.3m including allen and borini.

carroll - £17m
adam - £6m
bellamy - £2m
cole - £3m
spearing - £3m
kuyt - £1m

£32.5m

..........net spending of £18.3m

Id have tello, walcott and sahin. walcott and tello on each wing.
Jay

Dempsey, Johnson and Sahin mate

Cuchulainn's Hounds

I would have to agree with you on the three players mate. However it would be nice to see Tello come in as well as Barca seem to want rid of him on a permanent basis & he would be a great prospect for the future.

In my opinion we still havent got someone who can put the ball in the net on a regular basis. I know that with the free flowing system we seem to be playing upfront, a lot of the goals scored for us this season will most likely be collective rather than coming from a certain individual, but I really believe Dempsey could provide that clinical edge we sometimes desperately need in a match. He can score with both feet and is a great header of the ball. His aerial ability seems just as good as, if not more controlled than Carroll's.

I really would love to see Clint come to Anfield, & if we can offload Charlie Adam in the process of doing so then I think it would be a great bit of business on our half.

Looking forward to the season ahead,

A.O'Rawe

Tello Sahin Dempsey
Why tello over Walcott? 21 yrs old, technical ability, skill, pace can finish, can play with Rodgers philosophy, which is Barcelona style of play, which means he's trained to play that sort of way pretty much his whole career. Why not Walcott? Decent player a lot pace but doesn't know how to use it at times, very inconsistent. 1 good game, 10 poor. Tello appeared 12 game starts 22 off the bench, 12 goals - Walcott 46 starts 5 off the bench 9 goals 11 assists

Sahin, Dempsey, Johnson or Walcott (both equally talented but equally flawed imo)
CQ

Tello is nothing special he is fast his touch is poor did you not watch the olympics? He was on the bench and came on and made no difference. I'd look great playing for barca

Dempsey, Tello, Sahin

Sahin provided we sell Charlie Adam.

Dempsey ,Walcott, Tello cheers ant

This is a message to Neilp. No one cares that you don't enjoy pepecam. So how about if it really bothers you, you simply don't read the updates? Rather than ruining the fun for everyone else?

If Ed002 is to stop pepecam then perhaps us posters should start up our own Neilpcam as Puzzled said? I'm sure that would grate on Neilp quite a bit...
KiwiRed

I dont know why he has to ruin a bit of fun that people enjoyed

Agreed, however when Neilp asked how old Ed002 was she said 54. That can't be true, can it?

Rob

No he's almost 55

Puzzled {Ed002's Note - Getting close to 55.}

Sahin and Tello would be exceptional additions to the squad. To get both would be a fantasy but I think only one of them is likely with Tello the most likely out of the two. My heart says Sahin will choose Arsenal over us and I prefer Sahin over Tello so I for one would be gutted if he went Arsenal.

What is it with these North London clubs and stealing our players?! Lol

Thanks

Kam

First they have to want to come to us we don't want them if they're not gonna give their all for lfc they've got to be fans too

Agger will stay. Carroll will go if a reasonable bid is made. Right now we are after Tello, Sahin, Dempsey ( with Adam going the other way) and a striker in the region of 15 mil if Carroll goes.

To add to that we are in talks with Afellays people and bid for Ramirez

Dempsey
Tello
Sahib
Quaresma

All targets I know of...

Agger doesn't want to go
Adam may leave

Expect a loan

Who the hell is sahib sounds an amazing name I thought we were going for sahin

You laugh, but there was a lad I went to school with called Sahib

Rob

Quaresma is definately not a target.

Last time I saw Quaresma, he was a very big target. Even Ali Dia could have hit him with a banjo.
