Not enough has been made of Anthony Taylor preventing Gakpo sticking the ball in the net.

What’s worse is he realised his mistake and covered it up by called the trainer on for the keeper when he wasn’t even asking for it!

It was absolutely scandalous and Taylor should be held accountable why is nobody talking about it?

Because it make no real difference. Maybe more should have been said but nobody really cares.

Because every level headed person has already accepted that our season is dead mate. The life has been sucked out of the season to such and extent most of us are not even getting angry anymore when horrible decisions go against us. Paqueta should've been sent off as well for a leg breaking challenge very early in the game, and he wasn't even booked. This is what happens when the manager and the players stop caring; the fans do to.

It's more worrying that the ref was waving play on if he had concerns about a head injury.
But he was more bothered about how he'd come out of the situation than he was about Areola. Areola was ok and made the mistake but Taylor didn't want the fallout from that.
There was another in the Arsenal v Bayern CL game at the Emirates.
You can't just stop the game because a player thinks that the game has been stopped.

That would be possible 9 points lost through incompetence of certain referees and var throughout this season. I wonder how many decisions gone against man city or Arsenal?

In fairness our end of season Jonestown impersonation has made the refereeing disasters irrelevant at this point. For every Spurs or Arsenal game there’s a Crystal Palace or Everton where we pressed the self destruct on our own without any need for interference from the ref. No one but ourselves to blame at this point. That said, there isn’t one competent ref among the current shower, you could sack the lot tomorrow and give it to sone randoms out the job centre and no one could tell a difference.

To follow on from a few of the comments above - think of it this way. At the start of the season if somebody would have said Klopp was going we would all (mostly) have been horrified.

Now - it is almost a relief that this season is ending and there’s a fresh start coming.

Rigsby, Taylor had to make up that stunt in real time cos he knew he screwed up and had Gakpo scored, what would have been his excuse esp. with the howler of a game he had in the Forrest v Everton game with 3 blatant pens not given.

Can you imagine what would have happened had we still had a fair shot at the title and that happened? Trust me, PGMOL would have nowhere to hide and trust me, the lawsuits would be flying out the shelves from the AXA Center.

{Ed025's Note - but tell me this Oli, why the hell did Gakpo not just put the ball in the net anyway?..

Ed25, Gakpo was going to do that BUT Taylor panicked (why? I have no idea) and then inexplicably blows the whistle and Gakpo had to stop, which tells you that Taylor knew he screwed up.

That's why Gakpo did not score. Worse thing is that had Gakpo scored and Taylor awarded the goal, he would have been right to do so cos that is applying the letter of the law. Areola would have looked a right dunce, for sure.

{Ed025's Note - it was a strange one Oli thats for sure, just another in a long line of refereeing cock ups that we have come to expect i suppose mate..

Jonestown comparison to a few games of football - classy.
