Hi Ed01. I know you don't have a crystal ball or anything but with this summer looking likely for a major rebuild of the squad, it provides opportunity to bring in players to fit a preferred style. Do you think we will will stick with the possession game Linders has tried to bring in or go back to Klopps high energy press? I only as after Everton, Newcastle and 14 mins of Madrid I thought we had gone back to the latter. Crystal Palace was a return to the former and boring, unsuccessful style that has permeated the season though. Many thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I would expect us to revert back to high press and stick with it.}

Please Klopp, bring back the high press. Lijnders, please back off, it's clearly not working, clearly!

The players are no longer capable of playing the high press, they gas after 20 minutes and the opposition play through it or over it. Fab was so good at filling the holes in the past and Virgil dealt with the long balls, but their drop off in form as been there for all to see. I agree that we need to get back to what was working, but its going to need money.

{Ed001's Note - nonsense. If they gas out then they just need to train harder. There is no real genuine reason for them being incapable of playing the high press. This nonsense of the players being incapable is just made up completely in people's heads. It is more about intelligence than fitness if doing it right.}

Our ability to pass the ball into touch or to an opposition player whilst under no pressure last night surely goes unrivalled. I’ve never seen a set of players do it so much.

After getting told on here Thiago was the problem for giving possession away I’d love to hear those thoughts on last nights performance without him.

{Ed001's Note - there is absolutely no confidence in the team and that will not help at all.}

Hi all,

So is the possession game a tactic of Lijnders and not a Klopp thing?

Am I right in remembering Klopp left Dortmund when they hit a slump after great success with them?

Does anyone think Klopp might leave at the end of the season?

I would prefer him to stay, go back to heavy metal tactics and refresh the team with new blood.

Dortmund hit a slump because they kept selling Klopp's best players.
Klopp won't be going anywhere until he's overseen a rebuild.

Ed001 I’ve never seen the players look so panicked in possession. Like rabbits in headlights. Some of them looked like they didn’t want possession and gave the ball away.

My thoughts on the players last night.

Robbo - full of energy but no end product but probably thought the majority of the team were playing musical statues.

Trent - no end product and looked sloppy.

Matip - probably had the highest pass percentage to a palace player out of anyone on the pitch.

Vvd- looked like he wanted to fill in Matip

Hendo - stats. Pointed forward 789 times. actually passed the ball forwards twice.

Naby - should never wear the shirt again. Honestly believe he was trying to get sent off

Milner- I can’t really remember him being on the pitch

Jota - full of energy in the first half, no end product basically went missing in the 2nd.

Salah - seem like he only wanted to bother if there’s an opportunity for him to have a shot.

Gakpo - looked like he was the only player trying at some stages.

Bobby - not sure he had more than 3 touches of the ball in 22 mins.

Elliot - must have been in competition with Matip. Literally found a palace shirt whilst under no pressure

Bajetic - probably came away with a 50% pass completion in his 8 mins.

Fab - rumour is he raced a parked car after the game and lost.

{Ed001's Note - I agree about them not wanting the ball, that is one of the biggest things to happen when confidence goes. Players hide and don't want the ball.}

Maybe cos the players who have been used to playing and winning in a certain way suddenly, are being asked to play reactively rather than proactively or front foot football which is what the press is set up for, is why they are terrified of the ball and their confidence is shot.

Essentially, we have spent over half of the season groping in the dark and trying to play a wretched system that clearly the player can’t play. Brilliant job by what genius who thought this was a good idea and prolly continues to think we should stick to it. And we wonder why teams have left us behind. They didn’t. We essentially STOPPED running, imo (pun fully intended) .

Thanks for the reply Ed01. I certainly hope you are right.

Who - it is well known that the possession game we started to integrate last season and have gone for this season is Pep Linders baby and preferred style of play. He convinced Klopp it was the way forward. I can appreciate the ambition and attempts to be proactive but for me it’s a black mark against Klopp for being convinced into turning away from his own style, one he has built his career, reputation and success on, by a coach likely most would not have even heard of had he not so royally mucked this up. I’m not so arrogant as to expect LFC to win things every year, but the drop off from where we have been in recent seasons to this is probably the worst collapse of a team I have seen in the roughly 30 years Iv been an LFC fan.
