So being scout ed001, how will be the conversation with the coach. Last year Klopp told scouts convinced him to buy Salah. Is all the managers take words from scouts or some really dickheads? . And secondly how many players you suggested to sign for a club? . Which player you suggested is really hit and the one you suggested wasn't signed but went on and had great career? . Did you worked for Liverpool?

{Ed001's Note - I am not a scout, I was given the opportunity to do it but turned it down.}

What's the purpose of those questions Stg? You're posting because Ed001 disagreed with you on your comment about Silva? Get a life, man. (I happen to like Thiago Silva, but I agree with Ed001 in that he is no longer as good as he used to be. The point is we all have our opinions, Eds and posters, and there's no need for underhanded snide remarks. Point your frustrations, in life, elsewhere) .

There is no dig man. If someone opinion is different to me why should I get frustrated. After all this site is to interact and have some insight knowledge right? . I just want to know how scouts interacts with coach. They need to convince the manager right if they need to sell a player they are scouting? . I meant no harm. I asked his opinion on Silva and he has different perception. So I didn't get interact further with him as it went little bit ugly. The way I see a match started to differ after visiting this page. There is nothing wrong in asking questions so I can gain something. If you started to connect all the dots then you will be in wrong end.
It's nothing wrong in asking insights to ed001 (regd players) or ed002 (regd transfers and finances) if you want to gain something.
My posts are never to be intended to harm anyone.
And one thing for sure I will bug Ed001 regd players and on matches about his perception so I can know how to intercept a match.

Allright, stg. Perhaps I read too much into it. You're right about the site being a place for exchange of opinions and a lot of learning (for most of us) .

Its ok bro. Ed001 if you want to, my question is I thought Silva involved in all headers and tackles or I missed something about his position? . My focus solely on our players missing opponents. This is again if you want to.

{Ed001's Note - he was caught out on every chance we created. The problem was he was getting mixed up with Marquinhos and not getting out to close down, when the ball broke to the wide forwards, the system they played was that Marquinhos would drop in allowing the centre backs to close down Salah and Mane. Neither centre back was doing it, nor were they just getting back and trying to create a solid block. They were all over the place, with no idea whether to drop or hold or push out. That is on Silva because he is the captain and leader at the back who should be in charge of that. He just ran hither and thither, without being actually decisive and organising the backline.

That is also partly the fault of Areola, but he is not particularly skilled at organising the defence and also partly Tuchel as manager should have spoken to them and organised them better. However, on-pitch Silva is meant to be the man who does that and he let them down last night. At one time he looked fantastic, but he has faded in recent years, imo down to playing in a weak French league and having it far too easy.

There are times when he shows good positional sense and heads a ball away or makes a tackle, but they are usually following a period of play which could have been broken up much earlier if he just organised his defence better. They were panicked last night at times and lost their shape which allowed us gaps to exploit.}

Ed, how are you able to perceive the matches in such detail? Are there specific tactics and gameplans that you have seen before, elements of which you easily recognize when you see them being attempted by a team?
Many fans like to think they know football tactics - they are some of biggest talking points that bring fans together thankfully - but very few would be able to notice and comprehend what you have just provided.

{Ed001's Note - it is just the way my mind works, it is why I used to get in trouble in school for not showing working out in maths. I didn't work out the answer I just looked and saw the answer. When I look at things I see lots of things some people miss.

I am told it is possible to learn to analyse it by just practice - but the key thing is that you need to understand what you are looking at before you can analyse it and see what is going on. I mean even a basic 4-4-2 would be impossible to spot if you didn't know what it was, but when you do know you can see it in action by the way players line up on the pitch.

The biggest difference is probably the fact that I spend 16 hours or so a day either watching or reading about football due to these sites. Large parts are editing, but most of it is just trying to learn more about the game. If you can get access to a scouting database, such as scout7, wyscout or instat, you can get to watch it all from a different angle. If you look at a game on there you have just watched, you can put the two images together in your head and see how it looked when you watched it live and what was going on. Do that enough and I am sure you would see other things in the games that you had missed in the past.}

Thank you, kindly, Ed. It is hugely appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate. The other thing is to talk to coaches and go along and observe coaching sessions, especially when they do drills on shape and defence against attack. You can see it more easily in the small sided practice sessions and then spot it later in full games.}

Ed001, by reading this comment I realize that it would be a fantastic read to more often read what you think of our opposition, just like here.

I mean, I often get caught ball watching and from a Liverpool perspective. I appreciate following Firmino's off-the-ball movements as well, but watching and analyzing what, for example, Thiago Silvia does off the ball, well, right now I don't, and I don't have a clue.

But, with more insight to that, the overall understanding of the game would of course increase.

However, I realize the amount of work involved in this, and I am not a spoiled brat to suggest such a thing. I should probably watch each game more than once, rather than trying to piggyback on your great knowledge. (Or perhaps just watch the game and hopefully have a good time. )

{Ed001's Note - it's ok mate, someone else had asked if I would write something about the kind of things to look for when watching games, tactical things, movement etc. Initially I was thinking of it was one article, but I realised when I tried to write it a couple of weeks ago that there was far too much to cover in one article so I was intending to do something in a series of articles.

However talking today I think it might be easier to understand if I just did an analyse of each game we play, separate to the review, to pick out these kind of things. If no other reason than a chance to point out just what Henderson does for those (like Ed025) who think all he does is stand around waving his arms and passing sideways and backwards.

Rather than just picking out things on a player profile, pointing out how it affects the team in a match can highlight things more. I mean saying, for example, Harry Maguire has a tendency to position himself far to the left side of the pitch means little on its own. When you put that together with how it interacts with the defence and midfield around him, leaving a large gap between himself and Wes Morgan for opponents to run through, you can start to see the red card for Morgan was only a matter of time, as he is being exposed.

It is just trying to figure out how to put it together in the form of an article that makes it easy to understand and is entertaining to read that is the difficult bit now. I don't want to dumb it down as most people are smart enough to understand, but to keep it interesting is the difficult bit! I have read enough tactical books and listened to enough coaches give talks about tactics to know it can be very dreary if you are not careful!}

Gotta be fair though ed.

With a system like that, no cover, 4 players just sitting on there arses up top, poor players around, it's hard to show all ypur quality.

What about how do you think he would be next to vvd right now.

1. Don't want him. 2. Love Gomez.

Just a general better system for the guy what level could he reach

Don't forget we signed Alison who had a mare against us, because we can't really judge players against us because we really are that horrible to them 🤣 we could make a holy show out of any player if we wanted.

{Ed001's Note - do you mean Thiago Silva? He is 33 mate, on the decline and has been for a while. When he signed for PSG he was top class and I would have loved him, but he has lost his edge since being there. In the last couple of seasons poor coaching has seen him look finished at top level to be honest. I think he is just on the way down and he has made his money and lost the hunger.}

I don't claim to know football tactics inside and out. But I would get in trouble at school for not showing my working out in maths. I did it in my head. It is the ability to think in an abstract way and that must help when weighing up two teams tactics.

{Ed001's Note - glad to help mate, always nice to have something new to think about.}
