Just a trivial question for Ed's and posters away from the transfer talk, who is the best captain you've seen? Can be from any team, mine is Carlos Puyol, a true warrior and an amazing leader, someone who looked after his teammates a credit to the game. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts!

{Ed002's Note - Puyol is a good proposal but it is difficult to compare across the years and from team-to-team. Deschamps is bright, a winner and an organiser. Beckenbaeur is generally regarded as one of the best captains but he has the habit of rubbing people up the wrong way. In England Bobby Moore has the respect of many. Baresi, Totti and Maldini in Italy, Lev Yashin of course is another who would need to be considered. Tough to put one up there as first pick.}

Emlyn Hughes and Graeme Souness.

I know it won't be popular on here, but Roy Keane was a fantastic captain. A useless footballer, but the best captain in Premier League history in my opinion.

Shout out for Phillip Lahm as well. He was brilliant and didn't need to resort to thuggery to compete as a player either.

Souness all day long. Ask Hansen and Lawrenson what if was like having a midfielder that could shield them defensively and put the fear of god into the opposition. His team mates felt ten feet tall going into shy game he was that influential. Greatest all round centre midfielder ever.

Has to be John Terry, you just have to look at the effect he had on his teammates and their wives. 😀.

{Ed002's Note - Whose wife would that be?}

Ed002 Wayne Bridge? Or was she just his girlfriend at the time?

{Ed002's Note - It was an ex-girlfriend of Wayne Bridge (and of many other Chelsea players).

Deschamps for me but MK makes a great point, Keane, though I don't like him, not one bit, he was a great captain, credit where due.

Roy Keane a useless footballer? Tell that to Ferguson who spent a record fee at the time, and to Kenny who nearly signed him for Blackburn. While not the most gifted he was far from useless.

If he was in the England team instead of the Irish team, he'd be the worlds best.
