About 4 years ago a work friend who is Portuguese and a massive Sporting Lisbon fan, was always banging on about several of their players: Carvalho, Rojo and Ilori. They were thought of as bright prospects for the future. According to him, for a long time Lisbon had suffered by selling their best players on relatively cheaply. When Bruno De Carvalho became the new president he clamped on this and set hefty price tags on them, William Carvalho in particular. From memory he was of interest to Arsenal who I assume, thought he was overpriced. Recently he seems to have faded from the spotlight. I saw him at the euros, but didn't watch him closely. He was always though of as a defensive midfielder who was physical and a solid tackler. I don't know how he's regarded nowadays or how he'd adapt to the EPL - hopefully better than Rojo and Ilori .

I watched Carvalho through out the Euros as I`d never really seen him play and trust me, he is quite a player. People think he`s just big and strong and a brute. He may be all these but they take nothing away from IMO, a very good technical ability and good passing range he possesses.

The guy can tackle, cover ground with deceptive speed and most importantly, pass the ball long or short with either foot with ease. Danilo from Porto (another similar size to him) started the Euros ahead of him but after the 2nd game, never got his place back. Just my evaluation, Razor.

Cheers Noah. I really didn't feel I could make comments about him because I've seen him little, and mostly in champions league and international football. As I said my friend said he was great technically, but the big question is will that translate to the EPL and how would he fit into a midfield 3 for us. Actually we don't even know if there's any current interest from Liverpool.

Don't think it's very likely, but if he were to come in i guess it would be as a deep midfielder to backup Hendo. Probably at the expense of Lucas and Stewart.
