ed001 now the last minute trolley dash has ended I would like to hear your thoughts on joel matip's debut vs spurs, personally I thought he was assured on the ball and did well in both boxes, bigger tests still to come no question but I thought he did well.

Probably the best debut CB performance for us that i personally witnessed (i know he played vs burton too before some smartie picks at that) For context i have caught almost every game since sheffield utd away 2006. I remember the week after signing him he played in europa for schalke and gave away a goal and just looked another dodgy gangly player so i made a foolish snap judgememt and was very worried, but he looked very assured vs spurs.

I actually thought he looked a bit shaky in the first half. Bpl is a different ball game and to make your debut away to Spurs is a baptism of fire. In the 2nd half he coped much better with the pressing of Spurs.

One thing that has struck me the most is how crisp his passing is and that he's always looking to pass forwards! I'm really hopeful of matip and think he could be a very dependable CB.
