Just a quick opinion on Lucas Leiva I think might be appropriate right now.
Lucas was never my favourite player and I remember his press blurb when he joined as "attacking midfielder with a fantastic shot" which was just what we needed at the time.
He didn't settle quickly into this role.
Rafa stuck him as DM and he was utilised as such but without too much fanfare or approval.
The lad stuck at his role without rancour or complaint. He wasn't the best but was not the worst.
But over the years he's grown into the Club and become an ambassador and an important part of our recent history.
He's also a far, far better footballer than we give hime credit for.
It might be too late to guarantee Lucas a squad-role given we've targeted that as an area of concern but I'd hate to think we've lost a very decent Liverpool-loving man with a massive heart who did so much for our community.

I've always been a fan of Lucas. He was always criticized by fans especially when times were tough and results were less than desirable. However, compare liverpool with and without (whether due to injury or team selection by a muppet) him in the team. He works tirelessly and for me is one of the best defensive mids in the game. When he sits in front of the back 4 he allows others to push forward due to the teams confidence in his ability to break up play, read opponent's passes and tackle. His biggest shortcoming is his pace. For me, he should be one of the first in the team.

Lucas won over a majority of fans who never appreciated how hard the lad worked to fit into the team and to do what's best for the team. A good player and fantastic servant to the club.

He should stay, lead the domestic cup runs and cover the prem.

Lucas is a top lad. Ed once talked about how he broke down in tears after a game because the amount of abuse he got from some pathetic fans, crushed him emotionally. He is a far better man, with honor, decency and dignity, than he is a footballer and he's a very good footballer, no doubt. The way BR treated him and almost sent him packing from the club is some of the most disrespectful and disgraceful things BR ever did. Glad he didn't leave and is still here.
