Ed001, with Salah signed now, who do you expect or what area do you expect us to push for next?

You've mentioned Mendy is a first choice LB and LB is an area we need to purchase. Is he the next big move?

Max Renn

{Ed001's Note - I expect the centre back mess to be sorted out with regards to VVD next to be honest.}

1.) 23 Jun 2017 05:23:48
U really expect us to move for VVD after all that has happened? LFC are treading on dangerous ground here, unless VVD forces the move himself. BUt it will still cost us north of 60 million and VVD is simply not worth such a big investment.
BUt I would not complain of Bertrand came as part of our annual Saints lottery package. VVD and Bertrand for a combined 80 million has a much better ring to it and solves 2 problem positions for us.

2.) 23 Jun 2017 06:04:13
Cheers Ed. How do you envisage that to play out?

Also what's your opinion on the LB area. Surprised it's not focused on more? Had Milner done a much better then expected job that it's just not a priority? Are we about to spend north of £90m on two players (plus a tribunal fee soon) leaving very little to buy class in that position?

Thanks for your opinion on this.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, hopefully they will find some middle ground with Saints, as the player will otherwise be left in limbo. He has made it clear he wants to leave the club, which we have to accept is our fault, so we should do whatever it takes to set the matter straight with Southampton and get the FA off our back. It really comes down to what Southampton want to do, if they want to stand their ground and hold on to him, then we can step away and let the club and player sort things out. It is a difficult situation.

Personally I would prioritise the left back, as I think it is the biggest need we have right now. I do expect there to be one signed this summer, just worried it will be a make-do option, such as Robertson.}

3.) 23 Jun 2017 07:32:53
Cheers again ed appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Enjoy your weekend.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate you too.}

4.) 23 Jun 2017 08:45:16
If we get a good left back and no one else, I would be pleased with this window.
Wish we didn't create the VVD mess, but we've to do right by him. It's "morally" right.

5.) 23 Jun 2017 11:08:30
Do you no Ed who .........

{Ed002's Note - This has been done to death.}

6.) 23 Jun 2017 10:33:32
Morning Ed, out of interest, if we do buy a make-do lb do you envisage Milner staying first choice?

Thanks mate.

{Ed001's Note - no.}

7.) 23 Jun 2017 12:59:20
Ed do you expect milner to be used as the back up lb or will he be considered for a spot in mid field?

{Ed001's Note - that depends on what we need at the time.}

8.) 23 Jun 2017 13:33:11
Dear Ed, I know situations change everyday but given what you know, is Robertson more likely than VVD now?

{Ed025's Note - i would say yes..

9.) 23 Jun 2017 13:04:14
I was asking Ed 001 but no problem Ed002.

10.) 23 Jun 2017 15:39:30
I'm with you Ed re VVd and the LB situation. We have to do what is right for VVD as we put him in the mess he is now in as he wants to come here and has no interest in playing for the Saints even tho, every man and his dog (at Saints) knew he would be off this season. I say we place a bid for him and let he and the Saints sort it out cos at least, we tried to smooth things out. As for the LB, t=it will be either a case where Millie stays at LB or we get a make-do in Robertson who as you say, is just pants with no defensive quality and has no offensive end product.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool know what the price is to them and even if Southampton would deal with Liverpool, the club has made it clear in astatement that the owners forced the club to put out. Another u-turn might be an embarrassment too far for Liverpool and the owners. Klopp likes Robertson but I doubt he is first choice. So like at left back, left wing and centre back the club need to look to other options. And there are plenty.}

11.) 23 Jun 2017 15:52:30
Sorry ed, put out or pull out? Im not trying to be funny mate either.

{Ed002's Note - Surely it is clear - the club "put out" a statement.}

12.) 23 Jun 2017 14:06:27
Thanks Ed25.

{Ed025's Note - no worries mate..

13.) 24 Jun 2017 02:41:38
Vvd will be lfc player next season. I'd bet.

08 Jun 2017 14:04:25
Afternoon Eds. will our upcoming transfer ban prevent Solanke deal happening as well, or is that done.

Max Renn

{Ed002's Note - No, the ban relates to academy players.}

1.) 08 Jun 2017 20:05:36
I think he means the ban he thinks we'll get over the whole VVD debacle.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any such ban.}

2.) 08 Jun 2017 21:13:47
Yeah it was the youth ban, just wondered if it's in effect or due to start on X date, so wondered if it has any impact on Solanke. But, now I'm interested in the reply From Lfc hopeful2. If we are banned by some authority due to VVD, could that stop Solanke?

{Ed002's Note - The academy ban is in place and has no impact on Solanke. If there was a ban that took immediate effect then it would also not impact an agreement that has already been reached - but Solanke cannot go ahead without an agreement on the fee to be paid to Chelsea.}

3.) 08 Jun 2017 23:18:42
THanks ed. so this is expected to go to tribunal for fee.

{Ed002's Note - As far as I know yes. Liverpool could always mafe an offer to Chelsea to avoid it.}

4.) 09 Jun 2017 00:57:21
Of course we could Ed but that would be the easy thing to do, will probably turn out like the ings situation and end up paying more than we should 😂.

5.) 09 Jun 2017 03:13:54
Liverpool will only offer at max 1 million the way we are going🙄.

6.) 09 Jun 2017 09:32:31
Ed002, do you know what sort of figure Chelsea are actually asking for compensation for Solanke? (I know we don't talk money, but I am curious about the sums being asked? ) .

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not asking for a specific amount but it will be higher than they would have got if he had moved abroad.}

02 Jun 2017 19:04:49
Hi Eds. any truth in Juve bidding £25m for Can. Is he available or not and if sold will there be a bigger push for Keita?

Max Renn

{Ed001's Note - I don't know if they have bid, they have been interested in a while, but I don't know anything about a bid. We are not actively looking to sell him.}

1.) 02 Jun 2017 19:56:16
Take that all day long. 25 mil bloody hell.

{Ed025's Note - really?..£25m does not get you much these days mate..

2.) 02 Jun 2017 20:36:44
£25m doesn't even get you Troy Deeney.

{Ed025's Note - i know its amazing mate..

3.) 02 Jun 2017 20:36:45
If LFC sold Can for 25mil it would be time to hang up the shirt in the back of the wardrobe for five or six years and get back at the goldfish racing until the idiots running our club sell.
I don't believe it for a second.

{Ed025's Note - nor me polecat...you cant race goldfish.. :)

4.) 02 Jun 2017 22:00:08
You joking. Final years of contract. Bang average player. Signed for 9 mil then solf for 25. Solid business.

25 more for us.

5.) 03 Jun 2017 00:21:49
Can in my opinion had a good season and if Henderson isn't going to sort out his injury problems I have no problem seeing Can in the team. Different players of course but he's tried and tested. Hope he signs a new contract.

6.) 03 Jun 2017 03:15:33
Hahahaha "bang average player" carried the midfield for the last 3 months of the league campaign. Quality midfielder, there's a reason one of the best teams in Europe are interested but we've got fools on here claiming he's awful and average.

{Ed002's Note - After losing out on Mahmoud Dahoud they do see Emre Can as an option.}

7.) 02 Jun 2017 22:05:53
Cheers Eds.

8.) 03 Jun 2017 04:39:54
No thanks. Just offer Can a new contract. We are already making 3-4 changes to our first team for next season and the last thing we need to do is reshuffle what is a pretty decent midfield. We need stability, not too many changes.
If Can does not sign on the dotted line however, then 25 million I'd take. Better than losing him for free season after next. Maybe target Nzonzi or Ndidi to take his place. But I'd rather keep Can if possible. Klopp rates him highly and that does it for me.

9.) 03 Jun 2017 05:08:46
Yeah properly annoying that. Can is my favorite player along with Firmino, and I'd be gutted to see him sold. He will outlast Hendo and Lallana in our midfield. His new contract is on its way. Your comments are bang average sm.

10.) 03 Jun 2017 10:25:33
Regardless of whether 25m is a good fee or not, I think there's a strong case for having continuity in the squad. Personally I hope he stays so we can avoid replacing players we don't need to replace.

11.) 03 Jun 2017 10:37:12
Carried the midfield for the last 3 months. Or was shocking for the first 6 months.

Hes bang average. Got no special qualities. Just ok at everything. Deluded if you think anything else.

12.) 03 Jun 2017 10:53:51
Whatever Supermane, but Klopp and Low seem to disagree.
He took some time to get going it's true, but that was because he was at Euro 16 until the semis and then we had a midfield 3 that was working well. In fact, he hasn't had a proper preseason in ages and has played a hell of a lot of football. In 2015 he was at the European Under-21 Championship and this summer it'll be the Confed Cup. That's why we have a squad and he is an important member of it. I won't even get into his many qualities, since your stance is just dumb and baseless.

13.) 03 Jun 2017 13:44:04
He's23, Looks much older head in our midfield. Goal of season. I hope he stays.

14.) 03 Jun 2017 15:33:39
Supermane, start watching tennis mate cause you clearly know absolutely nothing. One Of the best teams in the world are after Emre but you claim he's useless, have a good look at yourself, absolutely laughable. You do realise he was playing through chronic calf problems at the start of the season, but obviously you're oblivious to that. You're probably a guy who rates jay spearing and condemns the departure of Charlie Adam. Wake up and start realising you know nothing, the sheer innocence to even claim he's useless is simply crazy.

15.) 03 Jun 2017 23:56:50
I would say he is worth at least £35m. That's probably my bias but he has been outstanding in the run up to the end of the season and THAT goal adds another £10m on haha.

31 May 2017 00:02:55
According to some, we've offered a two year deal to free agent Gael Clichy.

Im not sure what to make of this. Firstly, free agent, prem experience and title winning at that. Definitely a LB. 31 yrs old, so a two year deal is good too.

However. Why has he been released? I've really not noticed his Man City career enough to recall if he was decent, injury prone? Did he keep Kolorov out or vice versa.

Anyway, could be shrewd but it feels a little disappointing as we have CL football, money and Klopp should we be setting a higher bench mark then this? Just not sure (can you tell)

Max Renn

1.) 31 May 2017 06:52:46
hmm still having him as a cover shouldn not be bad. i think we need 2 LB since the club doesn't have any once alberto is sold. Decent signing clichy, but his wages would be a bomb.

2.) 31 May 2017 12:35:03
I'd take him only if 3 conditions were met:

1) We miss out on Sessegnon,
2) He's back up LB (on low wages),
3) We go all out on a first choice LB (such as Mendy), and

But I can't see that happening. His wages should be pretty high I reckon.

3.) 31 May 2017 13:16:35
I'm not sure what LFC fans want. Everyone is calling for 2 LBs to come in and we have made Ryan S a main target. If we are able to get him then would we also want a very expensive young LB in Mendy which would give Sessegnon very little chance to break through into the 1st team for a good number of years.

Signing an experienced PL LB, like Clichy, who has won trophies at both Arsenal and City with a youngster waiting to take his place in the next couple of years would make perfect sense to me. Yes Clichy will not be everyones cup of tea but he will be a step up from Milner.

If we manage to get Sessegnon and loan him back we would have Clichy/ Milner this year, Sessgnon/ Clichy next year and saved ourselves some ££s which could be re-invested in other positions.

23 Jul 2016 16:54:35
Chilwell hasn't signed, deal off. Move back on the cards?

Max Renn

1.) 23 Jul 2016 17:13:57
Chilwell playing againsr Celtic today.

2.) 23 Jul 2016 18:15:59
Will be watching that game.

3.) 23 Jul 2016 21:30:24
Dont know much about the lad, but Ed seems somehow hopefull for the boy, so I guess he got potential! Would hate for some other big club to wrap him up now.

4.) 24 Jul 2016 02:20:41
Average player it seems.

I wonder if in near future we'll see a similar situation to the Bosman rule, but with contracted players?

Just with what's reported with VVD and possibly Keita, forcing moves, transfer requests, strikes etc. Contracts seem even less binding and these guys aren't the first.

Could we see a football future where players will be free to move and contracts as we know them now a thing of the past? Or maybe similar to now but with an actual release transfer value written in so there's no grey area.

Max Renn

1.) 16 Jul 2017 21:54:17
Interesting thought.

I think completely free movement is unlikely given how many tens or hundreds of millions top clubs have invested in transfer fees.

However, I think a mandatory 'price' for a player in a contract (not going to touch the various different flavours of 'clauses'! ) would be sensible.

In a rapidly rising market, as we have now a days, a club would need to renegotiate a contract with a player to avoid them leaving for what would now be seen as a low fee (whereas 2 years ago, say, would've been an astronomical fee) . That way the player can up their wages commensurate with an increase in valuation.

Whilst it doesn't curb the capitalism of the game these days, at least it allows players and teams to know where they stand.

A buying team willing to meet the 'price' would then be allowed to talk to the player in question.

Not perfect, but workable, I reckon.

2.) 16 Jul 2017 22:24:07
Why not do it on a yearly basis.
No winter window. And clubs not allowed to sack the manager till the season finishes.

Any player or manager who does well gets snother deal or if they can get a better deal elsehere they are free to go.

3.) 17 Jul 2017 02:11:18
In everyone's work contract, there is a notice period if you want to resign or if your company fires you. So I am sure the same sort of thing can apply. Maybe for the interest of club and player, the notice period is not 1 month, but something that is better suited to top class football clubs and players.

4.) 17 Jul 2017 06:37:30
Yes, but most companies have not invested millions of pounds just to get your signature.

5.) 17 Jul 2017 06:58:57
How about a set maximum price for players depending on the remaining length of their contract. I. e. each year is worth 10 million for so the most that can be paid for a player with two years left on a contract is 20 mil for example. That's maximum by the way so less can be paid if acceptable to the selling club and so lower leagues can negotiate at lower prices.

15 Jul 2017 23:01:14
Read an insider said there is a deal, a signing that will blow supporters away.

So as we do sign unlinked players all of a sudden. Alexis Sanchez has confirmed he wants CL football next season. Left sided. Would certainly fit Klopps ethos.

Max Renn

1.) 16 Jul 2017 00:05:09
Lol come off it.

2.) 16 Jul 2017 00:32:29
I only wish it were true!

3.) 16 Jul 2017 07:34:51
We were in for him before joining Arsenal so it's not completely dreamland

Can anyone think what the blow away signing would be as VVD and Keita although both big money were already out there so no secret.

4.) 16 Jul 2017 08:23:09
Sanchez turned us down for Arsenal.

I think part of the plan was to bring Sanchez to LFC when Suarez was sold to Barcelona.

5.) 16 Jul 2017 09:17:27
Max Renn:
Neymar - Apparently Man Utd were seriously pursuing him
Bale - Madrid are considering selling him to afford Mbappe
Ronaldo - claimed to want to leave Madrid
Neuer
Kante
Aguero
Sanchez
Messi

Those signings would "blow me away". Can't think of many others to be honest.

6.) 16 Jul 2017 09:45:31
Suarez?

7.) 16 Jul 2017 09:55:49
Our owners will not sanction a transfer for Suarez.

8.) 16 Jul 2017 11:04:48
If I ran the club I'd offer them £40m +1 with a straight face just for fun.

15 Jul 2017 13:50:49
Anyone else watching the sky soccer sixes? It's just an absolute who's who - if you where into your footie during the 90s it's so star studded.

Max Renn

1.) 15 Jul 2017 14:17:56
I watched it last night renn favorites got to be Brazil but I love the neligerian team with jay jay, big taribo, agahowa and the yak but my favorite player at the sizes is little juniho watched him a lot living down the road from boro reminds me a lot of lil Phil in size and the quality he has he should have played for a lot higher team than boro.

2.) 15 Jul 2017 14:19:27
What channel is showing it max?

3.) 15 Jul 2017 14:44:59
It's on skysports but you can see all of the games on catch up on sky too.
England team has gerrard, Owen, Murphy and heskey in.
Spanish team has luis Garcia in and Bruno cheyrou playing for France 🙈.

4.) 15 Jul 2017 14:50:13
SkySports1.

5.) 15 Jul 2017 16:11:39
The Italian side with Ravenelli, Delvecchio and Del Piero looked good. Brazilians played well. Seeing names like Elano, Dida and Juninho brought back memories.

6.) 15 Jul 2017 16:40:51
Sore Brazil the other day in that and Julio Baptista has still got some strike on him lol.

06 Jul 2017 19:51:30
Not sure if this has been asked before. Buvac, has he had offers or are clubs interested in making him head coach anywhere? I always find some 'great' managers have a constant no.2 who probably does an awful lot without the attention.

I know it hasn't proven a good move in some respects for no.2 to Sir Alex, not sure if any became 'successful' unless obtaining a high profile job a success? McLaren did well abroad.

But Buvac seems well rated and respected. Is he just not interested?

Max Renn

{Ed002's Note - Mainz showed an interest a while back, other than that I don't recall anything.}

1.) 06 Jul 2017 20:49:49
I get the impression he's very loyal to Klopp, even if somewhere was interested I doubt nothing would come of it.

2.) 06 Jul 2017 21:23:30
I think they are vastly different roles and making a successful transition is rare. He would be taking a big risk with his career prospects.
Obvious exception is Sir Bob who was a genius 🏆🏆🏆.

05 Jul 2017 14:35:27
Sometimes I see posters request your thoughts on previous players, I always find the views really interesting.

Not sure if anyone has asked before, but could you give your thoughts on Glenn Hysen. Cheers 001.

Max Renn

{Ed001's Note - to be honest I only vaguely remember him and his grey streak throwing his hand up for no reason to commit a stupid handball and give away a penalty. He does not really stick in my head for anything other than that, sorry.}

1.) 05 Jul 2017 15:23:11
How about Richard Money, Ed? I had him in my Panini '81 sticker collection but can't remember seeing him play.

{Ed001's Note - I don't remember him at all either.}

2.) 05 Jul 2017 16:08:18
Ah ye, Dick money from St mirren remember watching him at dens Park in the 80s whilst playing footy up there.

3.) 05 Jul 2017 20:20:44
Many establishments in Amsterdam will part you from your Dick Money faster than you can say reefer.

Maybe he needs a public three hour meeting with Klopp seeing as his club don't want to sell him. Klopp should ask Wenger where he had his with Mbappe as it was brushed away from being classed as tapping up.

So what you're saying is without any accepted bid for Mbappe it's absolutely ok Wenger met him and discussed his playing future and this is from a manager who'd like to sign him.

Max Renn

{Ed002's Note - It was nothing to do with any bid. It was not tapping up. You don't understand anything about those present. It is very, very embarrassing that you go on and on about this trying to deflect the gross and unacceptble behavior of Liverpool FC and Klopp.}

What is the difference between Klopps meeting Van Dyke in Blackpool and Wenger meeting Mbappe for 3hrs. Neither club want to sell or accept any bid? This question keeps getting swerved.

Max Renn

{Ed002's Note - As I have already explained, Liverpool illegally approached a number of players after two warnings last summer, another warning this summer, a complaint to the Premier League and have already been banned for fouling up the career of a 12 year old leaving hios family in debt. You clearly know nothing of the Wenger meeting nor of the other two people who were present - nor I doubt the circumstances. Move on, this is embarrassing that you keep saying the same thing over and over again trying to deflect blame away from Klopp and the team who are absolutely bottom of the pile in terms of professionalism across European football.}
