Anyone have any idea how far away Flanagan is from fitness? Has to be our first choice left back with what we have now when fit IMO. More solid than Moreno but also offers more going forward than Gomez

Out of interest why do people massively disagree with this?

Until his injury flanno didn't really do much wrong. Yes Gomez is playing well but he's a centre half. We don't seem to have any permanent joy their so give him a try. If he can play left back for the first team let him play centre half. Then let flanno play left back.

I didn't disagree but for the sake of the debate il start by saying, flanno played in the defence of a team that conceded for fun, Gomez is yet to conceded.

Flanno doesn't offer any more in attack than Gomez in my opinion.

Flanno is a right back anyway!

I agree Wassa - the scouse cafu got the name while playing left back.

Although a right footed player and he see's himself as a RB not a LB, still 50% on here haven't seen him play in the last year so they must be right!

The team Flanno played in was always going to ship goals though, we had no defence cover but had the forward players to simply outscore anyone. This current side is set up far more defensively, it has no bearing on how good Flanno and Gomez are individually

To be fair, as much as we did concede goals with flanno in the team, he was by far the best defender in that back four (except for when Agger was played). He did make some errors but they were few and far between - the big point was that he showed heart, desire, a will to win and a will to improve - ingredients some of the current squad members seem to lack. Not saying Joe Gomez lacks them but that to point to the teams conceded goals with Flanno in the team doesn't really tell the whole story.
