Hi Ed. Lots of reports saying kone and thuram are both coming. Any truth?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Liverpool having agreed the moves with BM and Nice.}

Ed, have liverpool agreed personal terms with thuram? Or are these reports premature? Thank you in advance . :)

{Ed002's Note - I did not know that their clubs have given Liverpool permission to speak directly try to the players.}

Understand but are we keen on both? I know you said both seemed not to make sense but multiple reports saying we are trying for both. Appreciate your responses.

This really is all RTFP stuff. Eds can’t constantly be asked to piecemeal feed any or every drop of information and over the last few days there have been lots of questions about Thuram/ Kone.

We’re keen sums up all that is known.

We all know how the club operates, so it’s very doubtful both are coming.

I see Romano is saying we have scheduled talks with Kobe’s representatives which would suggest we have approached the club for permission.

Not used to all of this ‘playing by the rules’ stuff so apologies in advance if I’ve got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Seems that it’s just possible that the old adage that there’s no smoke without fire might just be applicable to Kone and Thuram.

Ed002, sorry to ask, but you say that you are not aware of Liverpool having agreed a deal with Nice or Mönchengladbach. Do you know if Liverpool are talking/ negotiation with their respective clubs regarding Thuram and Koné?

I’ve only seen you say we have an interest, but not that we have taking that interest any further.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool asked Nice about the availability of Thurman.}

Uma Thurman?

Can't blame Liverpool FC, she is quite the looker and a very NICE person ;)

@Markp, how does the club’s transfer policy operate?

The club (primarily via Lijnders) said the model was to bring in a system of bringing in one established player who would likely be a starter but certainly a significant improvement to the squad and that the focus would also be on bringing in youth with potential (to become first team squad members) .

The other policy statement was ‘the right player at the right price’

In the last three windows and prior to the upcoming window we’ve made one ‘major’ signing

Diaz £ 37m
Nunez £ 64m rising to £ 85m with potential add ons
Gakpo £ 35m rising to £ 45m with potential add ons
Mac Allister £ 35m rising to £ 55m with potential add ons

In the past two or three years the club has brought in Bradley, Ramsey, Koumetio, Elliot, Clark, Doak, Kone-Doherty and Carvalho for a combined fee that probably wouldn’t cover the cost of Jude Bellingham’s car.

That’s how I think the club operates, what about you?

As an aside didn’t Naby cost £ 64m too? Let’s hope it isn’t an unlucky number eh?

Facts don’t lie with your post WDW, but the reality is we have lost 4 first team midfielders at the season end with another 3, Thiago, Henderson and Fabinho past their prime. With the emergence of Arsenal and Newcastle, combined with an improved Utd, Liverpool have to respond differently. I expect at least 2 or 3 new midfielders this window, with the emphasis on the right player at the right price.

The club could sign every player they target and there will still be those who will find fault with something. Even if they have to blatantly make stuff up to be upset about.
It's just how they roll.

West Derby Wanderer3, Kobe would be a biblical signing, and a bit left field, considering he's no longer with us, and a basketball player. I like your creativity though.
But seriously, with 3MF's already departed, and Hendo, Fab and Thiago not far off, we need a decent supply of new MF's.

Allowing jurgen to go full-tilt for the final 3 years of his contract, and with new owners looming at some point, i can see this window being different from any previous window.

The signing of mac allister is a great start by the club quality player I can see him having a massive impact for us .

Hi Ed, are Liverpool looking to add both Kone and Thurman, or is it a one or the other. Is there a possibility percentage wise you think that we would sign both players. Appreciate all the insight this transfer window.

Also is the club looking to add any defensive reinforcements? And if so do you have any insight on who the club are favoring?

{Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

Thank you for the info Ed002 as ever mate I appreciate you’ve been asked quite a bit regarding Thuram already sand you’ve told us of our interest. For me he looks a very good player and the fact we’ve approached Nice I’m hoping we can get a deal done but no doubt we are up against other teams who also want him.

Yea, cheers Marty, but I’m just an occasional wannabe on the LFC page. Imagine actually being an ed, getting the same questions over an over on all the different pages by people not contemplating that this is a free platform where they actually get quick responses from people actually in the know. Must get quite frustrating when all people have to do is scroll down the page (or actually up from the contact form) or maybe to the second page if its a lesser linked name. Sometimes, it pays to have posters point this out so the eds don’t either come across as permanently grumpy or have to type the same thing over and over.

My comment wasn’t actually aimed at you, per se, but at anyone asking for specifics without remembering to RTFP first.

@Mattj I understand what you are saying and agree with you up to a point but it has to be said that, Millie aside, two of the four mids - Ox and Naby started less than a dozen league games between them and the fourth midfielder Arthur didn’t actually start a single game for us. In that respect you could argue that two replacements would cover the four.

If, as is being touted TAA moves into the midfield on a permanent basis then that is, to all intents and purposes, a new midfielder (as an aside we already have two ‘new’ RBS in Bradley and Ramsey with Gomez as additional cover) .

Anyway, if you accept TAA as a new midfielder and add Mac Allister we actually have the two replacements to cover Millie and the composite effort of the other three who have left.

In the same way that the club comments about transfer policy over the last two or three years have been botne out by transfers that were actually made it should be noted that Klopp has been vocal about us being very active in the transfer market in this coming window and, as such, my uninformed guess is that we will send at least two more mids and perhaps a left sided CB.

On a separate, although obviously related matter, my original post was more a response to the tiresome denigration of the club as though they are deliberately lying or just not actually doing what they have clearly stated they are fpgoing to do.

Are you trying to Suggest the club will bring in two reasonably expensive additions to play the same position? If so you will be in for a very long summer.

22.) 09 Jun 2023
09 Jun 2023 15:10:39
We also know we were Bellingham’s first choice, who is the best available and we won’t pay the money. Also other top players have stated they are desperate to play for Liverpool but we won’t pay the money.

I don’t think the owners are good are bad it’s reality. The best midfielder and best left sided cb both wanted to come to Liverpool.

WDW, I think we agree in the main, but as for 1jj, I’m probably one of the older readers here, if that helps you. This site is all about opinion, this season we were so exposed in midfield that our defence leaked goals. Only when we started playing Bajcetic did things improve. I know the four midfielders you reference barely played and therein is the issue. We rotated the usual players, Henderson, Thiago and Fabinho plus Elliott and Milner on occasion and the results, performances and final league position speaks for itself. I think we need 3 midfielders, and I believe we are actively looking at 3.

@Mark, if you are talking to me about buying ‘ two reasonably expensive additions to play in the same position’ then my answer would be no, I’m not talking about that at all and have never once mentioned it as far as I can recall. I do keep mentioning ‘the right player at the right price’ though perhaps that’s where the confusion lies?
